Chise sat on one of the vacant park benches playing with her phone. She had dressed moderately for the occasion: a simple salmon colored sweater and a black skirt with some white knee-high socks and a pair of black flats. That wasn't too over the top...right? She had recently gotten addicted to one game that had you taking care of sheep: Hitsuji Atsume. Her devout love of all things sheep related led her to playing this game. She already had an in-game photo album of all the different sheep she had collected! She had her favorites such as Momiji, the cream colored sheep covered in bows, Sumio, the grumpy pastel green sheep, and Kojiro, the happy-go-lucky sheep with the cutest derpy expression on his face. She loved all of the sheep in the game, but she liked them just a bit more than the rest. Why was she playing this game?
Chise had talked with Saito about getting ice cream together since he did offer to take her for helping him that one time with an exam. It seemed like it was his way of repaying her for what she did to help him. Who didn't like ice cream? She was mentally debating on which kind she should get, obviously she wouldn't rob him of his money for a large sundae, a small cone would work just as well. The problem now was thinking of which ice cream flavor she should get. At least she had some time before Saito arrived to decide...but would that be enough time? Chise distracted herself by playing her game once more, she had to clean Momiji who had just fallen into a mud puddle. Silly sheep, you'll get your coat all dirty if you do that. It was nice to imagine if the sheep were actually real, sadly this was only a mobile game.

Saito was understandably excited for today. He’d been planning to thank Chise for her help a while ago, but so much has happened so quickly that she never really had time to spare. But now she was free! So, Saito wasted no time calling up his buddy and inviting her out to get some ice cream at this real snazzy, retro ice cream bar he found on his jogging route. Wasn’t the cheapest, but it wasn’t like Saito was hurting on cash with pocket money from home and he felt that after the stressful times Chise must’ve gone through recently, she deserved to relax a bit.
Wearing a baggy red hoodie and ragged, washed-out jeans, Saito kept his hands in the warm pockets as he walked down the calm street, to where they’d agreed to meet. It was Mid-Autumn and while trees weren’t bare, the pathways throughout Tokyo were swathed in red and brown, crinkly, dead leaves. He liked the way they’d crackle and snap beneath his feet – It made the world that little bit more dynamic while he enjoyed a boring walk.
He turned the corner of the street, letting a gust of wind blow a flurry of leaves the same way, and saw Chise waiting on a bench. She was wearing the usual muted but cutesy and fitting clothes she normally did. A pink sweater and cute skirt, casual shoes; she was prepared for a day of relaxing. “Yo! Ishihara-chan!” he called, waving as he jogged toward her. He grinned his usual dumbass grin, plodding along that path and stopping a bit short of the bench, looking down at her. “How you doin’ today?” Animated as ever, he refused to stay still while they chatted, looking around them or bouncing on his heels between breaths. They shared some smalltalk for a little while before heading off.
The bar was a very short walk away from where they already were, which gave them a few minutes to enjoy the outside. Saito strolled alongside Chise at a friendly distance, frequently turning in his stride to speak with her. “So this place, it’s called Frazzies! It’s, like, this 80’s American diner thing and I swear to God it sells the best freakin’ ice cream I’ve ever eaten!” Around them, the world was alive! People wandered as they crossed the road and turned onto a main street. A woman walked her two dogs and a small ground of younger kids yelled and giggled about something on their circle of phones. Cars drove by, birds tweeted above their heads and lights shone through shop windows. “What’s your favourite ice cream, Ishihara-chan? Don’t forget, it’s my treat for helping me out, so you can get whatever you want – Or do ya wanna wait to see a menu?” Saito’s bright smile was definitely an assurance to Chise that everything was right with the world and that today was gonna be a great day.
As Chise responded, they would take another turn down an alley and then onto another main street, coming across a bright and flavoursome store front. It was bright red, with wide windows and “Frazzies” written in large, acrylic lettering across the top. Through the windows were the tell-tale signs of an American diner you’d see in any movie from that odd country. Booths and plates filled with hearty food and, in one booth, a huge pint of ice cream sat in front of a little girl with some of it down her dress and all over her face. “We’re here!!” chimed Saito, corralling his classmate inside.

A call from a familiar voice drew the redhead out of her current game, making her realize hoe cold it actually was outside. She turned her head up, softly shivering as a gust of wind came by, and saw the familiar tan white haired boy who was in her class: Saito Yamada. "Ah Yamada-san," the peach haired girl said standing up, putting her phone back into her purse before dusting her skirt off, not wanting to look dirty. She shook of the nickname he called her, a bit surprised he'd call her that but didn't comment on it. "I'm doing well, thank you for asking! How have you been lately, well outside of class that is," the purple eyed girl said with a smile, looking up at the taller of the two. He seemed to be really excited about going to get ice cream, sure she was excited as well, but she had no clue what the place was like. It could be a run down old shop for all she knew.
After a short greeting, Saito began walking once more, leaving Chise to follow close behind. Curse her small legs for not being able to keep up with the tall people! She turned her head and listened to the other as she kept up with the other, hearing that the ice cream place they were going to was called 'Frazzies'. She didn't know they had an American based ice cream parlor type place in town, let alone in Japan. She would have to investigate if there were other sweet shops centered around different countries anywhere near her, perhaps even take a visit to a few of them. "The best hmm? I might have to disagree with you on that, but I will hold back my judgment until after I've tried it for myself," the poofy haired girl said with a soft chuckle. You couldn't get one past the queen of sweets, she had a trained palette for these kinds of things! As they continued walking, Chise glanced around at the scenery around them, looking at the pretty colored leaves on the trees, seeing the people and cars passing them by as they walked on the sidewalk. Chise listened as Saito asked what her favorite type of ice cream was. Her favorite kind? How could she pick just one? They were all so good! "To be honest, I don't know if I have a favorite flavor or not. I might have to see a menu to see what flavors of ice cream they have, for all I know, they could have flavors that I've yet to try before," Chise said, imagining what sort of place they were going to might be.
As she continued imagining, the duo soon found themselves standing in front of the establishment in question. Chise found herself falling out of her thoughts when Saito called out that they were there. "Ah alright," Chise responded, soon heading inside the place, looking around to see the non-native décor. Checkerboard floor, padded bar stools and booths, a subtle yet somehow electrifying blue trim around the white walls American posters and memorabilia decorating the shelves and walls. All of it was quite fascinating and new, a sight the peach haired girl had never seen before. In a way, it was quite a magical sight to behold. What did she want to do when she walked in again? ...Oh! See a menu! Chise looked around, wondering if there was a sign with the parlor's flavors or if they were on a pamphlet of sorts. For a place of this size, it seemed like they would have a wide variety of flavors to choose from.

Saito rubbed his hands together and laughed a mischievous, decadent laugh as he stalked up to the counter. "Grab us a booth, Ishihara-chan! Imma have a chat with the boss!" By boss, of course, Saito meant the elderly Japanese man behind the counter, in one of those hokey white ice cream parlour uniforms. The old man recognised young Saito and gave a mild-mannered smile. "Hello again, young man? Back so soon?" "Sup gramps? Brought a friend this time around, I gotta convert her to the way of American ice cream." the old man watched Chise and laughed quietly. "I'll make sure to whip up the best. Join your friend, Holly will take your orders as soon as she's done." Saito grinned and bounced on his heels over to wherever Chise sat them.
He slid into the booth, sitting opposite his floofy-haired buddy. "Already got the menu? What looks good to you?" Saito busied himself by tugging his hoodie off over his head. The menu was host to a massive variety of sweet frozen treats! Ice pops, slushies, sundaes, milkshakes- A veritable cornucopia of ice cream headaches! With a puff and grin, Saito tossed his hoodie in the space beside him, leaving him in his jeans and a short-sleeved shirt with the picture of some kind of otter lifting weights. "Get whatever you want, Ishihara-chan. My treat!" he gave the girl one of his usual, bright smiles that didn't quite fit his muscular frame.
After a few minutes of chatting, their discourse was interrupted by a woman dressed in a yellow waitress outfit, with her brown hair tied in a fancy braid. "Howdy again, little fella-" On closer inspection, Chise would notice that the woman was at least 6 feet tall and definitely American by her accent. Her Japanese was quite impressive. "Teikashi-san told me you were back and brought a cute friend!" The woman grinned to Chise, picking out a handy, half-used notepad. "So what're you two lookin' to have today?" Saito glanced over to Chise. "Can you pick something for me too? Anythin's fine! We can even share one of the huge family bowl thingies if you're up to challenging my mighty appetite!" The laidback boy leaned back in his chair. When their order was taken, Holly would nod, note it down and dash off to get it made for them.

"Ahh, alright," Chise said, doing as Saito asked and finding them a booth adjacent to the counter against the window. Chise sat down on one of the plush booth rows and looked out the window, appreciate the pretty scenery enhanced only by the glowing sun above. Her attention was taken away as she turned to look back into the restaurant, admiring it's décor a bit longer. An Americanized little place, something different than the usual hustle and bustle of Japanese life. After a few minutes, Saito returned once more, sitting opposite of Chise in the booth and asking what she thought looked good. She knew it was just a friendly outing, to anyone else it might look like a date. She had a boyfriend, it wasn't like she had feelings for Saito and was betraying Haruto! She'd never do that! This was just two friends hanging out and getting ice cream together! Chise looked down at her lap and fidgeted with her fingers before looking at the menu previously placed in front of her before she even sat down. "...E-Everything looks really good...but I might go with something simple," Chise said, a nervous chuckle leaving her bright pink lips. When Saito said she could have whatever she wanted, she felt a little self conscious. She didn't want to get something too complicated, granted she would probably enjoy it, but she didn't want to seem like a pig in front of everyone. Perhaps if there weren't as many people, she would have chosen a larger option. "A-Ah it's fine, really Yamada-san. I don't want anything heavy," she said, trying not to worry Saito about her choice in frozen treat.
As Chise's violet orbs scanned the menu in front of her, their waitress had approached their table, seemingly knowing Saito. Chise pulled her eyes away from the laminated menu to look at their waitress, her eyes going wide for a split second. So tall! And she was foreign! Chise hadn't seen many foreigners before, but she was glad she at least knew some English if she were to ever cross paths with one on the street. Hearing the woman call her cute, the redhead couldn't help but flush, her cheeks growing a deep shade of red from such an exotic woman complimenting her like that. "T-Thank you..." she said, growing more embarrassed by the minute. Chise didn't think anything else bad could happen, that was until Saito asked her to pick something out for him as well? "E-Ehh?" a soft noise left Chise's mouth, hearing him ask her that. Great, now she had to worry about what she was getting AND what Saito would get. This was too much for the poor girl! Chise bit her lip and looked down at the menu once more, the words seemingly floating off the page and spinning around her head. This was way too much pressure for the poor girl. This was even harder than doing paperwork!
"I-I'll just have a small strawberry sundae with whipped cream, n-no cherry please. Y-Yamada-san will have..." she trailed off. What would he like? He said she could get him anything, but there were way too many options for Chise to choose from. "...a Choco-Choco sundae," she said before looking up at the waitress, watching as she wrote down the order. As the brunette turned to leave, the peach haired girl spoke up abruptly, "C-Can I also get a glass of water please!" she said, perhaps a bit too loudly. Chise receded back into herself, this was too embarrassing. She just wanted to hide from the glares and stares the other patrons were surly giving her.

Saito chuckled to himself, leaning on the palm of a roughed hand as he observed Chise stumble over her own awkwardness in conversation to Holly. Chise was perhaps the least threatening human being he’d met in his life and probably the sweetest too. It seemed everything she did had some kind of kind intention behind it. He knew he’d blind-sided her by asking her to order for him, but Saito was interested in what she’d say since – well – their interactions outside of class and hallway were minimal, so it was like seeing what she thought he might like. And she definitely chose correctly. Upon he call for a choco-choco sundae, one of the treats he’d tried in the past, he rubbed his hands excitedly. “Good taste, Ishihara-chan!”
So now all they had to do was wait. Thankfully, ice cream never really needed much prep time, so they had a couple minutes to chat before their treats arrived. “How’s Shimizu-san?” He plucked a lump of lint from a crease in his shirt, inquiring about the peachette’s boyfriend. Haruto was a perfect match for Chise, he thought, talented and kind just like she was. While not a part of the cooking club, Saito had learned a lot about the practice by asking the little chef some questions now n then. Initially, he wasn’t a fan of the butter-wouldn’t-melt niceness of his actions, but the boy did show some spine sometimes. That was good. He listened to her response and, somewhere, interrupted her: “Has he proposed yet?” Saito gave her a mischievous grin, knowing it would put a spark in her heart. He’d seen Chise cry at teasing before, so he wouldn’t be too bad. He couldn’t handle crying… If she got a little too shy about it, he’d wave his hand and laugh. “Just teasing! You two are such a good match that I couldn’t help myself!”
If Chise had any questions for him, he’d have to answer them in a moment as Holly returned with their frozen treats. “Here ya go, guys! Small pink sundae, no cherry with extra cream for you, honey, and a choco-sundae for Yamada-san.” Holly smiled to them both. “Enjoy!” And with that she was off again, the place starting to pick up in customers. Saito let out a bubbly, excited laugh, looking over his ice cream. The sundaes were both in those fancy glass cup things. Saito’s was a scoop of dark chocolate drizzled in white and milk chocolate sauces with bunches of hazelnuts and chocolate chips on top. Chise’s was a quieter meal, with a scoop of delicious looking strawberry ice cream with red, white and blue sprinkles, a yoghurt-y vanilla syrup glistening beneath a proud, whole, seedless strawberry topped with a mountain of whipped cream. Saito had already started enjoying the delectable sweetness of the treat he was abandoning his diet for when Holly returned with a tall glass of cool-but-not-freezing water. “Sorry hun! A glass of water too for you!” Aaaand she was gone again. Oh well! Only thing to do now was to enjoy the ice cream!

Chise felt so embarrassed, having stumbled on their order. She really shouldn't be so flustered, although Saito did kind of force Chise to pick for both of them without much time to think. The violet eyed girl looked up and over to Saito, blinking when she heard him say she choose well. A sight of relief left her parted lips that she didn't know she was holding. Perhaps now she can relax and ease up a bit now that the challenging part was over with. Chise watched their waitress, Holly, leave to take their order to the kitchen, leaving the two support studies students alone to chit chat and catch up. It had been a while since she last saw Saito out of class, perhaps it will be good to talk about thinks not school related.
Before she could ask a question first, it seemed Saito had already spoken up, asking her about how Haruto was. The girl found herself at a loss of words for a moment, was he inquiring about her relationship with their class vice president? "A-Ah Haruto is good as far as I know. We've been working on plans for the class as well as preparing things for the cooking club, so definitely keeping ourselves busy. It's a bit hard to find any free time when you consume yourself in your schoolwork," Chise said with a soft sheepish chuckle, "Not that I am complaining! I love what I do but some days are busier than others," Chise said, not wanting to sound like she was whining about her responsibilities. Think about Haruto made Chise smile, thinking to all the times they shared in and out of the classroom. It wasn't until Saito spoke up again that drug Chise out of her thoughts, asking if Haruto had proposed to her yet.
Ehh? Propose? Haruto proposing to her?
Chise felt her cheeks grow the same shade of red as a maraschino cherry. How could Saito say something like that so nonchalantly? "I-I...well...wha-...h-huh?!" Chise stuttered, jumbled words and sounds escaping her mouth. Great, now she was even more flustered than she was when ordering. Chise glared over to Saito who was chuckling on the other side of the booth, causing Chise to puff her cheeks out in a pout. How could he tease her like that?! So rude! Before any more teasing could begin, Holly had come back with their sundaes, seeing the massive sundae Saito had compared to her own made her a bit relieved she didn't get anything too crazy. Simple strawberry was enough for her. She flushed when the waitress said she had put extra crème on her sundae, softly thanking the waitress before she left as her violet orbs stared at the mountain of whipped topping on her sundae. Chise picked up her spoon and took a small scoop of ice cream on her spoon, making sure to get equal parts ice cream, whipped crème, and sprinkles before softly eating the bite off of her fork. A soft hum escaped Chise's mouth as the wonderful sweet flavors melded together on her tongue, a blissful expression on her face as she enjoyed her first bite of her sundae. Perhaps Saito was right when he said this was some of the best ice cream in town.
