Mia was weirdly not much of a gym rat growing up. She was a buff girl but thanks to her quirk a lot of gyms in Texas outright didn’t accept her. Some where run by Christians who believed the rumors that she was some sort of devil child, others were run by buff men who felt emasculated by her own strength in their presence. Thankfully japan was a bit more…’woke’? Did people still use that word or was it just a dead meme in the 2070s? Ah who cared, it wasn’t quite accurate anyway. They were more accepting of quirks, but they were still racist if you looked in the right places. Difference mainly was that with heroes being an accepted part of the countries infrastructure now, it was hard for quirkers to be denied something based on that simple aspect of their existance.
Still, she’d gotten by well enough benchpressing things in old junk yards and using people’s faces as punching bags, she didn’t exactly need the gym persay, but it sounded like an experience worth a shot. Having signed up for a local gym about a week ago, the titanic blonde was enjoying her first visit, dressed in a sports bra and some sweatpants, not exactly sure what typical gym gear should be. She’d tested each piece of the equipment, but hadn’t been bothering to show off just yet, more just getting a feel for all the gear. She was fairly certain she could easily set everything here to the max weight and endure it pretty easily, but she wasn’t about to piss anyone off on her first day. She hadn’t even pushed herself far enough to bulk up any of her muscles, leaving her in her slimmer, still tight, but majorly feminine form, at least in terms of her natural height and broad-ness.
She was just about to lay down on one of the benches to try a few bench presses, starting with some moderate weights that still wouldn’t need her to bulk up. She honestly had no concept of weight since pieces of junk and bad guys didn’t exactly come with detailed lables of their weight, so she’d actually been thinking this might actually be a decent heft, till some jackass decided to roll up and scoff.
“Sorry little miss but I think this might be a bit much for you.” The jackass began, smirking down at Mia who looked back to him with a light furrowing of her brow. Guy was dressed in a muscle vest and sweatpants of his own. Mia sat up to meet his eyes a little better. Despite the fact she clearly could stand over this guy he seemed to have the audacity to think she couldn’t handle the weight she’d set up. “Why don’t you step aside and spot me? See what a real man can do?”
Mia scowled a little, but soon smirked. Stepping up from the bench. A few of the gym rats had clearly recognized her today and knew right away not to challenge her strength. One of them even briefly tried to dissuade this guy with a tap on the shoulder he quickly brushed off. Mia remained silent, gesturing to the bench and letting the guy lie down.
“Go ahead…I’ll find a nice weight for a guy like you.~” She gave a wider smirk to meet his own, letting him lay down as she went back and forth between the ringed weights, sliding them onto each side one by one, one after the other. At first the guy remained confident, counting the reps he could do in his head, but the look of worry in his eyes rapidly grew as the number got lower and lower. 100. 70. 50. 30. 10…5?
Mia slid the last weight onto the end of the metal bar, the weight now looking cartoonishly large, like something you’d see lifted by a strong man at the circus. She spun the locks onto either side, standing over him from behind and resting her hands under the weight to spot him. “You got this big guy?”
He gave a cautious gulp, resting his hands on the bar and taking a deep breath before trying to take it off the supports…it didn’t work out. Instantly his arms gave and he used all his strength to stop it from crushing his ribs. With a roll of her eyes, Mia scooped her fingers against his chest, under the bar, and grasped it in one hand, her body rapidly bulking up as she lifted it off of him, and hoisted the entire bar onto her shoulder with just some light strain, her tusks poking out over her top lip, and leaving her with the smuggest smirk as she gestured for him to leave.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep a good eye on your dignity.”
He left with a cautious look back and the laughter of a lot of the gym, mainly the people who recognized mia and saw where this had been going from the start. The oni women chuckled a little with ‘em but gestured for them all to settle down. “Come on guys, he’s only a sexist asshole, no need to torture him forever.” Resting the weight back down on the frame, she rapidly began tugging off the weights so it was back to something manageable. “Seriously though? Any of you guys want a spotter? You know I can handle ya after that!~”

It had slowly been getting colder overall, as autumn had rolled in and winter slowly approached. Kirk noticed this propably the best out of everyone, with how every single trip of his was done by jogging around with the usual spring in his step and effort. As cold as he felt, he could usually just shrug it off. He just told everybody that "the warm-up he does is there for a reason", and usually he would be right in the way that he didn`t actually FEEL cold. However, with him trying to take his mind from the weird things that had recently been happening in Semper fi, his grandpa noticed, and proceeded to snap him on the head, whenever he was planning a longer run outside compared to his usual trips. "What the hell do you think you are doing!?" He would say! "You TRYING to get a cold!? You want to end up stuck in your bed listening to me all day long?" If there was someone that could leave a big mark on him it was his grandpa. And through his recommendation (a little bit more akin to command), Kirk was told to go to a gym in town to do his workouts, instead of the long shop jogs...
Now admittedly, Kirk had no problem going to the gym. Back in America, his school had a gym, and whenever he felt like some body part of his was falling behind, he could just go and specifically concentrate on it! The problem was that he wasn`t the sort of person who enjoyed standing still, whatever he did, and despite his body structure, he didn`t want to be a bodybuilder. Doing actual sports like Soccer and Baseball were way better on keeping his mind active and the chance of becoming bored way more slim. However, he wasn`t the sort to stray away from his grandpas commands... And his grandpa did mean well.
So soon enough, after a short and chilly jog, He was at the gym. He paid the entrance fee, money that his grandpa had pushed on him as sort of a guarantee he would spend it, and stepped into the place as childishly curious as anyone. There were very many tools, way more than at the schools "free for students" place, and just looking at the people in there, he felt unsurprisingly at home. What better place to keep yourself occupied, and not get a cold in than a place where you kept on squeezing sweat out of yourself? After a quick switch of Attire, involving just him throwing his brown leather jacket away, and switching his longer pants into way more comfortable shorts, he was fully ready to start his work out for the day! He was rolling his shoulders in their sockets as a bit of a warm-up, glancing about which thing he should start with.
However, his attention was instead caught by some sort of commotion. A group of men was gathered around someone, and giving glances towards each other. Was someone doing some EXTRA hard work out? This Kirk had to see! As a fellow sportsman, he needed to see what the top level of this place was, so he had a clear goal in mind! A bit quicker steps were made, as his eyes locked on to the duo seemingly preparing to lift a weight... A big weight, and it was getting even bigger! "Huuuu!" He would have propably whistled in amazement if he knew how. Honestly, he wasn`t sure whether he should have been more amazed by the guy planning to do this, or the big lady next to him!
Instinctively, he squatted a little bit and just started chanting "Go, go, go!" whilst pumping his arms up and down, Like he was already in some sort of super brogroup of the dudes! ...Only for the guy to give up immediately, as the iron slammed against his chest. All the excitement in Kirk fizzled with it, as he proceeded to scratch his head. Guess it was just some lady proving a guy wrong then... Only for his face to outright explode with emotions as the lady just easily picked up the whole bar with the weights on it, like a giant 2 sided Lollipop! "OOOOOOOOOH!" He shouted, Instantly being filled by energy once again, as he proceeded to clap! He might have gotten some stares for how excited he was about this semi simple show off strength, but it completely surprised him and the one liner on top of it really blew the moment right out the water!
While he was 100% hyped the rest of the crew surprisingly started laughing at the guy, who left, awkwardly sulking. Honestly, he would have propably felt bad for the guy if there was nothing else going on. However, Kirk was just too distracted by this giant muscle clad lady to mind him for too long! Whatever her quirk was, It made her look monstrous! But in a way which just proceeded to show her muscles in much more detail! It almost made him blush. The only things that really showed her as monstrous, were her size, the giant horn and giant teeth! Yet, all of this in combination was blowing Kirks mind a new one! And with how bad her sentences were, His Grandpa would have loved him from the start!
Which meant that when she asked if somebody needed a spotter, Kirk immediately lifted his hand up! "ME! I AM READY!" He walked out of the group, stomping towards her all sorts of excited, and slammed his feet together, while hitting his chest with his fist. "I might be new to the whole bench pressing thing, but I am ready!" Just another one of these things to the pile! Besides, he had jogged, so arms and upper body would be the natural next place to train! However, compared to the previous one, as he looked at the weight that had just been on the big monster ladies shoulders, Kirk was atleast smarter to know his limits. As awkward as it was to point it out in front of someone he had so proudly stepped forward to. His arm scratched the back of his neck. "I assume I could propably handle like... 4 on each side easily! ...I think..." It was hard to say when he didnt exactly know what each weight weighed. Besides, his skills in math weren`t that good. However, he proceeded to lay down anyways, stretching his arms up to the skies, with a satisfying crunch from his fingers. "What do you think?" The big lady didn`t exactly seem like an army coach. It gave Kirk a little bit of hope, that this was gonna be fun!

With a fair amount of the weights removed Mia was handling the weighted bar like it was nothing at this point, twirling it like a nerd would twirl a lightsabre when trying to show off, looking around for anyone that was eager to use the equipment and genuinely needed a spotter. Her eyes drifted rather quickly to the especially eager young man who even lifted up his hand, the red horned heroine snickering a little at just how eager he was and immediately thinking her must have been some kind of fan who just wanted some attention. With a light roll of her eyes as she went with her assumption, she stopped spinning the bar and rested one of the weighted ends down on the ground, the weight shifting as it dropped into the floor and making a light ‘clonk’ echo through the large open space that made up the gym.
The little display he made of announcing himself had Mia snickering a little more and waving him off with a flippant gesture. “Easy kid, this ain’t no military exercise or nothin’” Kirk may have noticed the faint Texas tint to her accent, though speaking Japanese it wasn’t the easiest thing to detect, what with Japanese words not naturally learned through a local Texas dialect. When he said he could handle four on each side, Mia could tell, despite his body type, he was new to the whole gym weights thing. “4 o’ what? 10 pound weights? 20? 5? Gonna need more accurate numbers here kid.~” She looked him over, taking a guess at how much muscle mass he had, and resting the weight bar on the frame again, spinning off some weights and shifting some new ones in on place. It was a pretty sizeable load in the end, but nothing too intimidating. About 3 weights on each size but 1 on each side was fairly hefty lookin’.
“Here kid, gotcha about 70 pounds here. That’s beginner level for a guy your size.” It was, while Mia wasn’t much of a gym rat herself thanks to her old training method, she had weirdly started measuring her feats of strength by how much her opponents roughly weight. 70 was always easy for her even as a teen thanks to her quirk, able to punch a guy that tiny through a wall, but for a normal person it should be a little bit of strain with muscles like the kid’s below her. She hovered her hands under the bar and let him take his time getting used to it. “You good?”

Honestly, the way she just twirled a big metal bar with heavy iron weights on it like it was a giant baseball bat told Kirk enough about this ladys knowledge about strength! No random bimbo would go around just swinging those things around! With a loud *KLONK* the weights landed back onto the ground with his request. At first he thought perhaps he had done a bad... Afterall the previous one who had tried had just gotten laughed out completely! However, instead the lady just snickered at him, pointing out his army like stiffness. "Sorry! Army training does that to a dude!" As much as he disliked the overall air of the commanders back there, He had to admit it gave him some of the best workouts in a while! ...Just made it even more befuddling...
Quick shake of his head later to get the annoying thoughts out of his mind, he couldn`t help but feel like there was something familiar about the way the lady spoke... Felt like home. He scratched his cheek in befuddlement, as she started laying actual numbers on him before he even properly laid down. "Well, I would think I can handle atleast average weight ones! Like maybe about 100 Pounds total! So that would make like... four 25 pound weights!" That was the weight amount that was always thrown around on tv. And with his muscle mass he was bound to be atleast at that level!
However, his teacher of the day proceeded to take down some of the weights on it, leaving it at 70 pounds... "...That´s fine too!" It was not that much less than what he had said. Since he was the newbie, he propably shouldn`t doubt the superior judgement.
However, when he finally actually lifted the thing down from its stand and sort of relaxed his arms for a moment to prepare to actually lift it, well... the thing pressed itself against his chest. "Oof!" It was not exactly painful, but sudden enough to knock the air out of his lungs. He lifted it up with a mighty breath back in, and proceeded to repeat the motion semi regularly, with a loud "eeyop!" each time. Well, it was pretty much as easy as he had thought it would be to do... but it was clear from the sound of his voice that there was actual effort happening. His bicep bulged up with every lift, and the work out began!
With that came a little bit of confidence, as the lady asked if things were going alright. "BETTER... than alright!" Kirk chuckled, still lifting the thing. His pace was maybe a bit too quick compared to someone doing this regularly. "Admittedly... I don`t think... That I need... You to help me... Lift this thing at any... Point hehe!" Confidence was rising in his chest. This was so simple and repeatable! Just like jogging but with your arms! However, who knows how long he could keep doing it... After all, the sights weren`t exactly changing... that and the weight did have some effect on him. with sweat slowly dripping down his forehead.

Mia had a wide smile on her lips when the boy offered the chance to load him up with 100 pounds. Certainly ambitious and she was tempted to see if he could handle it, but he seemed more than ready to take her advice on the matter, and soon enough she was standing over him as he got ready to take the 70 pounds. Really the kid totally looked like he could handle it so she wasn’t too worried, though the brief drop of the bar onto his ribs had her moving in ready to take it off of him. Maybe it was more display muscle than not…
He seemed okay though, once he had a moment to adjust, so she didn’t question anything. Watching him start to get into his reps, he didn’t have perfect form, clearly not a gym rat like his body might suggest, but he did okay at the least. She could see he was moving a bit too fast though and made a note to comment on it, but for now she let him have his moment, admiring the determination in him to keep going despite it clearly being his first time.
“Yeah yer doin’ well kid. Just er…” She lightly patted the side of his biceps. “You wanna take the reps a bit slower. The point is ya gotta like, feel the weight pushing back against your muscles. Slow pumps, big rewards. Got it?” She offered a smile to show she was just trying to encourage him to get it done right, watching him as he likely adjusted to that advice. “Also, just to be clear, my job here is to help get it off you if you end up pushing yourself too far. Ya know, before it crushes your lungs.” She smirked and stuck out her tongue with a playful wink as she lingered over him.
“So…army training? Where you part of that whole Semper Fi thing or were you actually in the army once yerself? Seem a bit young for that if I’m honest.”

Kirk lifted his head up a bit in confusion, as the lady patted his bicep to give him info on how to go about this. "Ah! I think I get it... Like this?!" So by slower she meant that she should let the weight keep effecting his muscles for a longer time. That made sense to Kirk! Thus, he proceeded to slow down his pace a little, and proceeded to lower the thing a little bit lower in the process. "Gotta get ALL of the effect...am I right!?" The pace got a lot of slower, but the way he pushed the thing up holding it up and slowly elevating it, instead of just forcing it up, did leave an impression on him! "Feel the BURN!" The weight felt a little bit heavier this way too...
She also proceeded to clarify what she was actually doing as a Spotter. Ah, so she was here to make sure she was safe then? "Ah!" Well, that sort of explained why the previous guy wussed out. This was pretty dangerous in that regard. HOWEVER! "No worries though! You chose the weight of this thing for me... after all!" If she knew her stuff he had nothing to worry about! "And besides... I... KNOW MY LIMITS! Hehe!" ...Well, he was technically right. Whenever he was doing jogging and sports he knew about he was pretty good about it. However, last time he tried something which he wasn`t used to, he would have propably snapped his back in half... not that he knew that, since his spotter that time decided to save him from the fate.
Speaking of effort, even though the amount of reps had slowed down, he was still in this all sorts of proud and energetic. Albeit, the repeated motion was getting a bit boring... Luckily Mia kept his mind busy, so he didn`t do anything too stupid to get rid of it. "Semper fi, yeah! Proper army will propably come way later though!" His grandpa had called it "good way of preparing for it mentally". "Albeit... I ain`t into that gun business. I just ran around their courses all day! REALLY good work out on every part of your body those!" He lifted the weight on his arms a little bit higher than usual. "HAD ME GASPING FOR AIR..." And then the weight came down pretty quickly, yet safely enough for him to not be surprised by it. "Every time... fun with pals too!" He breathed out and back in. Those were real proper endurance tests! Not that this wasn`t, but they were way more hectic.
However, his eyes quickly turned towards her again. "Did you try em out!? The courses... I mean!" It was actually sort of amazing that he was able to still talk so casually amidst the workout. Guess he was so used to it. and with his voice always being strong, the extra need of breathing didn`t exactly effect it in any fashion. However, the main point of intrigue currently, was the lady herself! With her just looming over him and the slow pace, he had a hard time quenching his curiousity on the amazon! "I mean... you don`t get abs like those without the three golden work-outs!" She had to be doing all of them daily! Especially when she was in a place like this! With next three lifts, he proceeded to say them out loud! "CRUNCHES... PUSH-UPS... AND SQUATS! Am I right?!"

Mia smirked as Kirk quickly adapted to her guidance. Even if she’d never worked out professionally, it was easy enough to learn what got her the best effects growing up and adapting her quirk to be bigger and stronger. Her body had bulked up rapidly when she put more strain on them for longer period’s, and watching Kirk accept her guidance had her thinking he’d be getting similar effects pretty soon…assuming a kid like him could even get any bigger. “Atta’ boy. That’s how it goes. Ya gotta make sure your muscles have time to feel the weight yeah? Feel the push of gravity back against them. If you just keep thrusting up and down up and down you’re pretty much just punching the air with a bit of weight against ya, a slow push really makes sure you’re muscles-“ She paused as he interrupted her, chuckling and enjoying his energy as she copied his words. “That’s right! Feel da BURN lad!~”
With the fact he was realizing what she was here for, it was good to see him get the message and not just brush her off or anything, though he did have a bit of bravado in his voice when he continued to pump the metal. Snickering a little into her palm briefly before getting back into position. Fuck this kid had some energy behind him didn’t he? “Yeah I think you’ll be fine, but a lot of the time it’s better safe than sorry right?” She shifted her hands a little, ready to catch it when she spotted his muscles quivering for just a moment, but eased up as he found his rhythm with the slower pace. “I’m sure you do kid, a guy like you has to if you get this…er…’swol’?” She cheekily smirked as she spoke that last word in English, not exactly sure what slang covered that intent in Japanese just yet.
“Ooooh right. Cool. Didn’t think a kid like you was in the real army.” She smirked a little, kinda glad to hear he wasn’t in the army. She didn’t really respect people like that much, they tended to be too strict and…well…militaristic. Everything was a drill to them, had to be super formal, hardcore, and taken 100 percent seriously. She didn’t make those feelings known however as Kirk seemed to have some interest in joining the army in the future? Was she reading that right? She wouldn’t risk it in either case. “I ain’t too big a fan of guns either. Nothin’ against those who can use them well, but…well suffice to say it’ll be a happy day when my quirk’s strong enough that I can bounce bullets off my skin.” She smirked just a little, making it unclear if she was actually joking about that or not. She watched him carefully as he pushed the last few reps out, seeing him push himself a little more and feeling a weird bit of pseudo pride for the stranger of a kid…
“Eh not really, they saw me, a pro there, and tried to give me a big speech so I could see the benefits of the army and be on their side. After a while I just said right to their face it weren’t for me…though with some cheekier words. Ended up fighting some of them in a few displays of ‘military might’, dipshits never figured out they couldn’t win no matter what they threw at me though, so their attempts to prove how strong they were kinda backfired.~” She held a proud smirk at that memory, resting her hands on the metal frame of the bench pressing set up, looking at Kirk and snickering a little. “Nah but mutations help…speaking of which. You’re a bulky kid for someone so young. You got a quirk?” She paused, realized something, and snickered. “Heck, you got a name for starters? I’m Mia, though most call me Redhorn these days as it goes.”

Man, all this info entering Kirks brain was fascinating. He perked his ears, as he listened intently on the ladies tips, as he felt exactly what she meant with each liftoff! In that regard, it was quite like with yoga, where you needed to keep your position for a long time! However, this was much more Kirks thing. There was actual movement involved, which made the thing much less frustrating to deal with! "Yes, I AM MUSCLES!" That and this lady really knew how to hype him up for such a small motion! "I`m... FEELING IT!" And that fire she kept stoking kept on burning...
In the case of safety, Kirk just nodded. Better safe than sorry indeed. However as soon as she uttered even a little bit of english, Kirks ears perked up again. It was so rare to hear it these days everywhere else except in his grandpas house! "Swole, yeah! Although you know, the good kind of swole! Showy and useful! Kind of like you!" Admittedly, even Kirk knew comparing a ladies physique to mans physique was kind of hard. Although, if there was someone who was worthy of the term swole, It was this lady! And as small as he felt in front of her, He found comfort in the fact that he was atleast the second biggest in his own class. That had to definitely mean he was somewhat swole.
As she went on about the army business and guns, Kirks mind for a moment ended up sinking in thought. Very weird for the guy. Come to think of it... she was way too swole to be just a random lady at a gym... She had to doing something way more than this. Heck, hearing that her skin could bounce bullets just made it even more obvious for his simple mind! "Man, That sounds amazing! My bros in class would go insane about that!" He could already imagine himself blocking bullets with biceps the size of shields, and chest like a cleaning board, as his classmates exploded in excitement! Admittedly, his back was real sturdy so, maybe he could block things with that? But it just didn`t sound nearly as cool... Just opening a pouch behind himself like some kind of tent... His excitement dulled the tiniest bit.
The ladies stories continued, as she apparently had shown off some of the military folks how skilled she was! Even referred to herself as a pro! "You didn´t get in trouble!? I know those folks were real nosy... when things got harsh!" Okay, now something really was up. That really didn`t sound like something a civilian could do! However, before he could make the now obvious connection, The lady proceeded to ask a question that made Kirk pick up the pace with his lifting. "Well... Of course I do..! but uh... it ain`t exactly uh... Good!?" He was almost squirming in place, as his eyes tried to avoid looking at her. She would propably just laugh in his face if she went and told her something like that with how cool hers was, planning on bouncing bullets off of herself and what not. "It`s uh...!" He really didn`t wanna start talking about his quirk... he had to dodge the discussion somehow!
And his chance came, As she asked what his name was, as he pushed the weights up towards the sky at full power and once again shouted! "KIRK BLUSTER!! THAT`S MY NAME!" However, that motion came with immediate draw back, as he felt the immense need to lower his arms... And with a loud "KLANG!" The weights slammed back onto the stand (either thanks to help of Mia, or by himself), with Kirk pulling himself from under the weights, standing up to a sitting position quite quickly! "S-sorry! I just uh... realized that...!" He bounced to a standing position, clapping his hands together with his eyes locked onto Mia! "You are an actual, full blown, SUPER SWOLE HERO, aintcha!?"
It was such an honest to god perfect distraction for Kirk, that Kirk himself forgot the quirk question completely! He was literally getting personal training from an actual on the field hero! His posture had gone a bit lower, with his knees wide, and back leaning a bit forward as he was just scratching his head with both his hands! "I am uh, a hero student myself! It`s an HONOR TO MEET YOU!" He slammed his fist to his chest with a quick bow! Admittedly, he himself had never heard of redhorn before, but it all made so much sense to him in his head, that he had no reason to doubt it! "I didn`t even know someone like you uses this sort of place as a hang out place!"

Smirking a little as Kirk clearly took in what she was saying, she was glad she could share a bit of her experience to help someone else develop. Sure she had a bit of an unfair advantage with her quirk, but she was more than happy to see someone without such an advantage developing themselves and pushing themselves to the limits. In a weird way, as much as she loved her own quirk and the uniqueness it lended to her as a person, she hated it in a weird way, solely for the fact she could always ‘blame’ it for some of her strength. It wasn’t 100% her hard work. Sure, her hard work is what pushed it this far, but even without her effort and training, she was pretty sure thanks to her quirk that she’d still be able to beat out most other humans in a fist fight and take them down to the floor in a couple of rounds. Even a few professionals if she got a lucky punch in. Here she was though with all her strength and training and those guys didn’t even measure up to her, but she couldn’t say that was all down to just her whatever the case…ah well. At least the kid here seemed to be enjoying himself as he kept pushing himself with her advice, earning a hearty chuckle from the heroine who was glad to see such determination in someone so young.
“Oh you ARE muscles are ya kid? Well how about you do 10 more reps and we see about kicking you up a notch eh? See how far you can push yourself. Ya don’t seem to be struggling too much here afterall.” She gave the side of his biceps and encouraging little pat in a way that hopefully didn’t throw him off his rhythm too much, just meaning to encourage him by emphasizing the fact she definitely saw the strength beneath his skin, which, again, was impressive to her, especially for someone so young.
Glad to see that ‘swole’ crossed the language barrier she gave another chuckle at that. Okay so she forgot sometimes that Japanese people really liked English slang for some reason, to the point she’d seen tonnes of shirts with misused English phrases on them in many thrift stores, many of which didn’t even make sense, and even more had horrific misuses of English words in just the wrong order to make it creepy or horrendous to wear. No one wanted to wear a shirt reading ‘I love baby hearts’ even if no one around you had any idea what those symbols meant in Japan. “Well good to see you’re putting all that muscle to use kid, don’t want a big guy like you putting it to waste.” She smirked down at him as she added. “Thanks for the compliment, by the by.~” She smirked wider, not at all sure what was going through Kirks head, but the implication that he was admiring her muscles a bit to see that she was both swole and useful in her swoleness was goo to hear from anyone.
“Hahahha. Well to be fair I don’t quite bounce bullets JUST yet, but I’m getting there.” As big as her ego was, she never wanted to overhype herself either. She was both egotistical, and weirdly modest in that aspect. She’d never take credit for something she didn’t do, but something she did do, and could do again, she’d sing her own praises till the cows came home for every reporter and camera to see.
“Hell Nah I didn’t get in trouble!” She chimed in pretty eagerly with a cheeky grin. “They were the ones who challenged me. I couldn’t get in trouble for them trying to kick my ass and failing could I?” She rested her hands on her hips while still leaning over the gear to talk to the kid below her. “First day they challenged me with six of their guys, next day they called me back to fight them in riot gear, then they started upping the numbers. Before I knew it they were throwing a mech at me to trash before they finally gave up and stopped throwing themselves at me!”
Huh. Not a good name? Did he have a name people picked on him for or something? Well Mia would be quick to shoot that down if it was the case but she was curious to hear what was coming, holding her arms tight around her chest and watching him throw out a last push, though while she hovered her arms about the bar she let him do the work himself unless he REALLY struggled before going back to her crossed arm stance. Quirking a brow she heard his name with it, smirking a little, and more curious about why he thought his name wasn’t good.
“Kirk Bluster? You think that ain’t a good name? Kirk, nice, sharp, got a good kick to how ya say it. Then BLUSTER. Think some people think a bluster is a bad thing depending on the slang of the place, but heck that has some kick to it too. One letter off BUSTER, and you certainly seem like you could bust some people up if ya wanted to!” She gave a proud grin as she tried to emphasize how good his name actually was. It was a weird thing to try and make someone feel pride in, but she felt she did a good job.
With the Kid looking at her in a new light as he realized she was a hero, she chuckled and shook her head, not dismissively as her words would show. “That’d be it kid. Red Horn, at your service.” She slammed a fist into her chest and held a strong sile. “Another hero student eh? I’m gonna guess you’re going to UA? What class you in? I may already know a few of your classmates.” With the added words that he didn’t expect her to be here, she smirked wider. “Its actually my first day in a gym. Like. Ever. Just testing out the facilities. Sometimes ya just can’t be assed lugging yourself all the way to a junkyard to train your muscles…though, gotta say.” She glanced around the room, huffing softly. “Nothing here’s exactly challenging for me…I’d be better off trying to benchpress car-shells and shit.”

Yeah, it was definitely not lifting a weight 10 times that would make Kirk nervous. Nor was it all the praise he was receiving back for praising Mia, proud grins aside. Like she said, he was a big guy, and he wasn`t in heroics for nothing. Even the slight confusion about what she was doing at Semper Fi was cleared up with apparently her beating them up because they started it with the challenges. And that idea just bolstered his idea of her as a hero! "A full on mech!? DUUDE...ette!" With the series on TV, Kirk had plenty of idea what mechs were like. Although assumedly these were like tanks in size, since apparently she couldn`t bounce bullets of her skin yet. Kirk doubted she could take a laser blast if that was the case!
However, after his energetic leap from the bench, the discussion changed direction completely! Instead of the focus being on the hero in front of him, It was instead concentrated on him. A fact that he would have usually liked, if the fact of what his quirk was hadn`t been brought up. However, instead, with his strong shout of his name, she thought it was the reason why he was being awkward. "Uh, that`s not what I..." He was about to say. Before realizing, that that was exactly what he wanted! "I mean, yeah! It`s been quite easy to pick on!" Now admittedly, he didn`t actually have any problems with his name. There was certain comic book hero feel to it always, and with his voice, it just emanated energy! Mias praises only encouraged that. Also... "Man, you should see me kick a ball! That Buster thing is sort of my catchphrase, you know!" Somehow he felt validated by the fact that a hero praised his name choice.
"But, I wasn´t exactly good for beating up bullies. Besides, teachers wouldn`t have liked it..." He could only imagine how mad his grandpa would have gotten if he had even tried. "Just had to listen to them shouting things like "Oh look at Kirk Bluster, how much his quirk blows!" His mood dropped again. That was only one of the reasons why he had become buff in the first place. "Atleast the mocking stopped when I started doing sports proper! No dude is gonna pick on a guy this size!" He would have propably flexed separately, if the weight of the... well, weights, didn`t already show the effects of this training.
And as the discussion moved onwards, Kirk couldn`t help but nod proudly! "Yeah, yeah! 1-C! Pretty much the most energetic class in my honest opinion! Best one for me!" He wasn`t lying. Compared to most of the people he had met from other classes had been way calmer sort. Not that it annoyed him, it just didnt feel like those classes would have accepted him as easily as the class he was already in. "Who have you met? Any names? I gotta ask them why they didn`t tell me about you!" For someone like him, this was pretty much the most baseline hero you could have!
However, his eyes widened for a bit, as she exclaimed that this was her first time in the gym! "Seriously!? Man, I knew doing things yourself was more effective!" He chuckled a bit. Even heroes thought traditional workout like this was a bit less effective. Although with the examples she used, the difference in current power was pretty clear. "I am here mostly cause my grandpa was worried I would catch a cold. More of runner myself, you see!" He ran in place for a little while to emphasize. "Not exactly the sort of guy who likes to just sit around doing reps all day, you know! I prefer playing ball!"

Not what he- what? Was he saying something else wasn’t so good? Mia couldn’t really lock onto the fact he’d been referring to his quirk. Sure she had come across people who doubted their own quirks before but Mia had so readily locked onto the idea that he was talking about his name that she forgot she’d even tried to address the fact if he had a quirk or not. It was a question still in the back of her mind but Kirk had such energy and momentum in his words it was pretty easy to move along with him, and she’d probably need a bit of a mental trigger to think to ask again, or even realize she’d asked before and never got an exact answer.
Smirking though as the momentum flowed into the energy of his name, Mia snickered a little, wondering if he actually liked his name and some people had just drilled it into him that it was dumb or what, cause he easily joined in the praising of his own name and talking about how cool it was. Kicking a ball huh? She wasn’t much of a sports person herself, but ended up chuckling along all the same. “I’ll take your word for that kiddo.”
On the topic of bullies Mia immediately snickered into her palm, glancing off to another direction as she folded her arms across her chest. “Yeah my teachers weren’t exactly fans of my behaviour either. Even less so than I bet any of yours woulda been. They were kinda on the kids side half the time…typically I’d be lucky enough to get transferred into a class with a less extreme teacher, but the brief periods I got a really religious teacher…well. Mutation. Red Horn. Yeah. They were on the side of the kids picking on me. I so much as flicked them as revenge and suddenly I was the monster.”
She let out a heavy sigh, shaking her head. “Sorry, bummer topic. Where were we…? OH! They were picking on you because of your quirk? Fucking-!” She looked around for something to emphasize the brief rage she got at that statement alone, glancing about and just slamming her heel into the ground, enough to just lightly crack the flooring but not properly dent it or the like. “Assholes!” She needed a second to breathe through her nose and lifted her hands. “Sorry, I just…get super defensive and shit when I hear someone’s takin’ down a quirk. Quirks are great whatever you got! They’re these little unique elements that help you be amazing! I mean, heck, you could think your quirk was the worst thing ever but compared to anything a quirkless could do, or heck, even a few other quirkers, I’m willing to bet it’s rad as fuck!”
1 C huh? Mia hadn’t really met anyone from that class yet but she was pretty sure she had to eventually with the rate she seemed to be meeting students. It was kinda weird how commonly she ran into them if she was honest but she weren’t complaining. “Oh yeah? I’ve seen a few 1 A kids, but…yeah ya know what. You pretty much outrank their energy all by yourself! I’m almost afraid to see what the rest of your class is like!” She gave a hearty chuckle, clearly seeing the energy as more of a good than a bad, and with the question of who she’d met, she started counting off. “Er…Jaz…Kanna…Maxi. Girl named Emi? Think she’s in 1 B if I remembered right. Oh and some guy who controls fire in that class too, I forget his name…” She’d also soon meet Elise and Akio, but that time had yet to come. “All pretty good kids if you’re lookin’ to make friends.~”
As Kirk seemed to take it that this place was ineffective, she quickly raised her hands. “Woah there, I’m not saying one way or the other. This place may be GREAT, it just ain’t equipped to deal with someone who’s got super strength like me. As far as running goes I ain’t much for Cardio, but I’ve been practicing putting my muscle to better use there. Gotta make sure I catch the ones who try to run away yeah?” Resting her hands in her pockets she glanced about than back to Kirk. “Don’t knock this place just because it can’t keep up with me of all people. It might do ya some good!”

Kirk listened intently to Mia, as she told about her own problems in school. Honestly, the idea of teachers being outright against you was very spooky indeed! Heck, Junko was giving kirk enough of a scare sometimes with how much she shouted at them. It was a hard pill of "his own medicine" to swallow, but loud people were always somewhat intimidating to the smaller folk. In his case though, atleast his quirk didn`t look too bad in that regard... If only it just looked cool in general. "I can imagine they hurt though, with that much power behind them!" Kirk had felt a ton of flicks from people bigger than him, with his grandpa coming to mind almost immediately... However, with how down Mia herself was about it, he scratched his head. "Propably made em way tougher though!" They certainly did do that to him, for better or for worse.
However, Kirk outright jumped back a bit in a flinch, as Mia exploded into a shout, a swear and a stomp! And apparently it was because he was bullied for his quirk no less. Kirk felt a bit spooked to say the least! "Hey, hey, hey!" Apparently it was a really big pet peeve of hers. Well, more like a major nervebreaker! However, she proceeded to praise all of them as their own "Unique little elements" that made anybody atleast better than being a quirkless. And apparently she even thought that his quirk was rad too! And you would have thunk that since previous praises had hit Kirk so thoroughly this one would have gone down hook line and sinker too!
"Well, yeah I guess. Better than nothing!" Instead the answer was blunt and mellow, added with a shrug. Like a simple coin smacked on the table whilst paying something without even saying thank you to the guy at the register. As nice as it sounded Kirks mind couldn`t help but sorta think, that it was easy for her to say. She was naturally sort of buff, while he had to work a lot to get like this... A quick shake of his head followed, trying to get the thoughts out of it, as his voice got a bit more hyped. "So, you seen any of my bros!?" Almost like he was trying to brush the whole thing under a rug.
However, even if the list of people she was emptying towards him was mostly 1-A students, who he didn`t know too well, he couldn`t help but actually feel proud, when she brought up his energy beat every single one of them. He outright fistpumped the air, like he had won something! "That`s how 1-C does it!" Immediately, he pointed his finger towards her while holding his other hand up. "Man, you should see Darren! thats a total bro if I know one! And then there is this guy called Akio, fricking huge, absolute lad! And man you should just see our class president! That`s a girl whose a literal battery!" He listed his pals proudly like nobodies business. As much as he didn`t have to say about his own quirk, he had to say about his friends!
However, out of the people she brought up, only Emi and Maxi rang a bell. "...Maxi!?" Maxi had been pretty much a complete mystery to Kirk since the day he had met him. despite being almost lax in most of his encounters with him, he was in such a good shape. Yet just imagining someone like him to have met her... It seemed weird. "Man, that dude has been to places..." His widened eyes and a scratch of his scalp only powered up the sense of befuddlement he was exhuding.
However, with his brief slamming of the gym, came brief counter slamming from Mia! "O-Oh yeah! Thats true actually! Sorry!" Of course, this was something that had slipped from his mind completely! She didn`t need to do this sort of stuff too much, since she was naturally a bit overtly trained for some of it. Besides, he had been just lifting a big amount of weight for a little while! "Well, yeah! that`s obvious!" He said in a loud yet with a tone of "I messed up proper". However, with her bringing up that she had been thinking of how to keep up with villains, Kirk proceeded to quickly move his head from side to side, looking around the place. "Well, there is ONE way you can always keep up with criminals! And luckily for you, I consider myself a specialist in it!" He proceeded to swipe his arms to his side, with a certain piece of equipment behind them, as he loudly proclaimed it out loud!
"Running a treadmill!" Now, it was definitely not the same as running outside, but it was way better alternative than not doing it! besides, it provided clear challenges to beat! He hopped on over to the treadmills, couple of them being seemingly used by other folks already. He patted the machine proudly. "Admittedly, I dunno what kind of villains you´ve already been chasing, but this sort of machine gotta have SOME level of challenge for you!" He stood on top of one, as he checked the settings. "And besides, Balanced workout is important!" He had done arms first, so it was time to train up the legs, obviously! He put up a simple starting speed, 6 miles per hour, not harsh at start, but easy to rise up from, as he commenced his jogging. "Join in!"

Mia rubbed her shoulder and looked off to the side. As much as she liked putting those kids in their place, it had an odd sensation with her those memories. She took pride in them, but she knew she probably shouldn’t so she didn’t talk on it again until Kirk seemed to have his own little sense of humor about it, showing he didn’t defend them in this little equation. “Yeah maybe. I mean if you get stronger by tearing muscle, they probably teared a fuck tonne trying to beat me back down once I started to rise up against them.”
Mia calmed down quickly too after hearing that Kirk was bullied for his own quirk, and offered a brief “sorry” before emphasizing her love for quirks. She was glad he maintained his energy even in the face of her brief flash of rage. She was getting a little worse with her rage again lately…maybe she should call up her old mentor Hughard. He was always a good person to get in touch with when she needed to focus her anger a bit better. Yeah. That weren’t a half bad idea. Still she needed to get back to the present, she shook her head to his question. “Not unless Maxi is a bro of yours. If you’re talkin’ classmates, ain’t been so lucky as to meet any 1 C kids. Until now that is.~”
Chuckling as he sung the praises of his classmates, he smiled brightly, glad he could hold pride not just in himself but in those around him too, nodding along and speaking with a firm, honest tone. “I’ll definitely be wanting to meet ‘em. Apparently I might be getting dragged over there to host some classes as a substitute now and then sometime, so maybe I’ll get to meet the lot of them in action. Ya should know already I’m not exactly the pen and paper type. If I were teaching you guys every lesson would be a practical!”
“Yeah Ice kid. I ended up running into him after some dipshits thought it was a good idea to pick on him. Dude was lucky I ran into him and not police. Ended up freezing an entire alleyway to scare them off.” Least she hoped he was smart enough to scare them off and nothing else. Was probably good she was the one to find him and not anyone else regardless of the case really. Police either would have assumed the worst, or had the eyes to see the truth of it if he’d actually intended to harm ‘em. Something Mia may not have wanted to see in a potential future hero.
Smiling a bit as Kirk realized, hopefully at least, that the gym may have been worth his time even if it wasn’t worth the Oni girl’s herself. She was glad he might see another opportunity to better himself.
Watching him guide them to the treadmills, she scoffed a little, more at herself, always recognizing where she did well in feats of strength, she failed in cardio. Pulling herself up to one of the machines, making sure it could handle her natural weight, she pumped up the speed to a brisk walk at first, getting a feel for how to move on it while watching Kirk start jogging. “I dunno. Ya may have me beat here. I’ve never been much of a runner…~” She kicked it up a bit, just to match kirk’s speed and majorly following his pace. “Somehow when you’re this big, you get to a point where more people choose ‘freeze’ out of the F responses than fight or flight. They just assume a titan like me can chase ‘em down and I’ll hurt them when I do…which I will, most of the time.~ Helps when you can take shortcuts through walls.”

"You as a teacher!? Heck yeah!" That was the only real reaction Kirk could give about hearing Mia substitute teaching his class sometime. Just imagining her doing some sort of workout for them got him a little bit giddy! She would propably be way better than Junko in that regard. With her around, it was real hard to do anything without risking breaking curriculum or something like that... "I just can`t wait for that! Gonna be a proper workout for sure!" He realized that he was technically insulting the gym again... "N-not that I won`t get one here, you know!
The mood however swiftly chased, as he was already jogging, when she told him about maxi... and about how he had gotten in trouble with a gang of some sort... and outright freezing the alleyway to scare them off... "Y-Yeah, that sounds like Maxi alright...!" He had pretty easily lifted ice walls up back when he himself had met him, so it made sense. "I assume he didn`t get hurt or anything? I didn`t know anything about this!" He seemed like the sort to tell if something went wrong with his plans... That or he had thought the situation was under control with a quirk as huge as his... Kirk shook his head, before mild disappointment sank in. This was work-out time not self mulling time.
Admittedly, hearing from someone, that he had been praising, that he might be better at something than an actual hero... "Pffft, You really mean that!? I mean, that much is obvious. Wouldn`t be in a hero course othervise after all!" His chest visibly rose a bit up from pride, as his jogging got more leapy and quicker! Admittedly, it made sense. A bigger person would have harder time moving swiftly, other than for the shortcuts. He couldn`t help but laugh at the Freeze fact though. "Going all police on them huh?! FREEZE!" He made a finger gun to emphasize his point. "But yeeah! I can imagine it being easier for you, hehe! Although if I ran into a wall, I would propably get flat as a pancake..." He had done it occasionally whilst running with his head in the clouds. Enough times to make his classmates laugh at it, that was for sure.
"BUT! Runnings pretty simple in the end. Just gotta put a leg in front of the other! I do it daily while jogging to school and what not!" Couple of trips a day kept him in shape for any sort of movement to be honest. He raised the speed of his threadmill at this point. now he was pretty much going his fastest jogging he could do. "Just gotta make the trip bigger each time. Have discovered a lot of shops that way, too!" Since his grandpa couldn`t do the shopping, that was another excuse for him to go out and get his body in good condition.
However, he did wonder... "...Though you have power in those thighs and knees of yours right?" Surprisingly, this time there was no awkwardness or blushing when he said it. "...Wouldn`t a great chasing way be something like you know... Jumping long distances? If you can run through walls, surely your legs can handle slamming against the ground!" It seemed logical in his head atleast. "Besides! It would be SO cool to get a drop on your enemies like that! Big ol`warcry, like that "FREEZE!" from before and you pretty much knock out the whole group in one slam!" Man, the idea felt so cool in his head. Albeit, he couldn`t yet do it with his physique.

Mia rolled her eyes, she’d just emphasized how much she couldn’t be a teacher she was pretty sure and yet here was Kirk gung ho about her being one. It wasn’t even a promising situation that she might be able to cover one of the classes, but hey if it was she certainly hoped…heck she’d say it out loud, chuckling a little just as she thought to. “Hey ya know what kid if I ever do teaching a lesson there I damn well hope it’s for one of you classes. I’d prefer to be teaching someone with energy like you than anyone else! Well, maybe Jaz, but only cause I’m always eager to see what that girl can do. She’s a blonde after my own heart!~”
“Oh no nothing like that.” She retorted about the icey kid. As far as Mia remembered she’d come onto the scene a bit late. Punks running away from the scene of an icey explosion, and her looking towards the source out of curiosity. Yeah, pretty much how it went down as she recalled. Shooting Kirk a little smile as she started jogging, putting the speed up a little more just to account for how long her strides were (she was basically just speed walking where Kirk needed to jog). “As far as I recall he was untouched. Didn’t have a scar on him. He treated me to breakfast after I helped lift his spirits. Made sure to go somewhere that served buffet style so he didn’t have a heart attack when he saw the bill.”
Now that she was jogging Mia already didn’t feel too happy. Jogging just wasn’t her style. Her body had the muscle for it but she also had the sheer weight in her that every heavy step of her jog had a weird kickback to it. She could power through it, she of all people could, but this was part of why she’d developed her leaping hulk like movement style across the city. She could brace properly for those long leaps and falls, she couldn’t prep her leg each time the entire weight of her body fell after it with each running step of her jog. Again, endurable, just not a fun time for her.
“Course I mean it, I’m always serious. Don’t go thinking you’re pro-material just cause you could take me in a race though!~” She stuck out her tongue in a teasy little smile as she continued to jog herself. Snickering at the talk about her intimidating size. “Nah, instead of freeze. I just do THIS!” She slammed her fist into her palm with all her strength, the clap it created loud enough that even people on the other side of the gym with headphones wondered what just happened, Mia grinning wide. “They tend to get the picture from there.~” She smirked a little more as Kirk emphasized he couldn’t take her shortcut option, and she shrugged. “Hey ya never know yeah? Humans can push themselves to do all sorts of things with the right support.”
As Kirk started to ask about Jumping, Mia couldn’t help but laugh. “Kid that’s exactly what I’ve been working on! There’s this old set of movies I’ve been watching, from those Marvel guys? Managed to dig them out of an old family collection, bought one of those retro DVD players, and there’s this big green guy in a few of ‘em. I think they call him the hulk? I dunno, the audios kinda terrible with how old the disks are.” She shrugged and smirked. “Anyway, yeah! I’ve been calling it titan motion, but on a day where I’ve got some free time I’ve been practicing jumping up walls and leaping across buildings. I still eat the pavement now and then, but Im getting better!” She snickered even louder at the example Kirk gave, shifting to face him, doing fast side way criss-crosses of her legs to keep up with the treadmill. “I did that just the other week! There was this kid getting picked on by anti-quirkers. Not Maxi, some other guy, and I just dropped down from a rooftop, slammed into the ground, and suffice to say they shut up quick!”
Mia had a confident grin at the fact she’d managed to pull that off, but as she caught her toes against the back of her ankle, she dropped and hit the fast moving rubber of the treadmill, yelping as she was thrown back and skidded across the floor before hitting another piece of gym equipment. For a moment she groaned, not hurt, but feeling briefly sore through her thick skin…then as she met Kirk’s eyes she couldn’t help but just laugh her ass off at herself, placing her hand over her face and snickering all the while.
“Okay, maybe that’s a sign I don’t belong at the gym!~”
