phantom grip Weekend. How great weekends were. No school, two entire days free for a student to do whatever they wish they could have done throughout the week filled with an endless bundle of work and little to no time. Today was the day.
And today was quite the sunny Saturday morning. Today was truly meant to be a day filled with immense amounts of activity. Today, Mira wanted to do something she'll be able to keep glued within her mind for the rest of her life. But for that, she wanted to have people to go with her. She didn't want to go alone. And what better idea was the one of inviting some of her classmates? Even one would be enough, she wouldn't mind. As long as she could grow closer and closer to her class. After all, she is somewhat of a latecomer.
'Good morning, guys! Would any of you like to come skydiving with me?' Such was the message sent to the chatroom created for 1-C.
It took some time for her to get any responses. After all, not many people like her like to wake up in the morning. In the end, Mira was surprised at how many were either still sleeping or didn't check the chatroom at all. But in the end, someone had replied. And that one was 'Alex'.
'Oh, great! We'll meet up at the train station then!'
Thus, to the desired location she moves. Preparations were done, she brought her backpack with useful supplies to keep herself safe and fed. After all, it was going to be quite the day. She might even end up missing lunch. Of course, she told Alex the nitty-gritty of it all, mentioning that he should bring food and everything. Many ideas surfaced in the teen's mind all the while, as she made her way to the train station. They wouldn't need to just go skydiving. There were many, many other things they could do which shouted 'radical'. Bungee jumping, for example. Maybe hot air ballooning too, cliff jumping, waterskiing...
"Oooooooh, so much stuff!"
Her excitement had been transported aloud, as a shout of sudden hysteria escaped her lips, only for every single person in the vicinity to look at her with a furrowed, startled gaze. Mira failed to notice such though.
Eventually, she arrived at the station. Along with her backpack, she sported casual garments, nothing too formal or extravagant; a white t-shirt along with some jean shorts and black&white sneakers, as well as the usual white gloves. Now relaxed, but still with an amused smile gradually creeping up across her features, she awaited whilst sat down, glancing about. So many people even during the morning. Hopefully she could find a seat for both of them. 16 y/o | 167 cm 455 words @@alexander

One of the jobs of a class rep, as Alex saw it, was getting to know each individual member of the class. While the delinquent admittedly wasn’t the greatest at what people called ‘social interactions’, he did at least make an effort to at least try and interact with every student in the class when he found an opportunity to do so. Sometimes, like with Darren, it worked out fantastically and he got another friend that he likely wouldn’t have otherwise. Sometimes, like with Akio the entire thing blew up in his face and it just solidified a dislike that had over time evolved into contempt.
It wasn’t often that a golden opportunity to get to know a classmate better was just handed to him like this, and the brunette was sure to take the opportunity when it came. Mira was a girl who he had shared a room with on multiple occasions even outside of class, but didn’t exactly make the best impression on initially. Her first day of school he tripped her with his quirk to get points on that freeze tag game, and they had never sat down and interacted very much one on one since then. He had missed most of the initial craziness of the slumber party due to taking a long breather, as well, so he didn’t know her too well. When he had woken up and saw the message on his phone, he had quickly jumped on it. Normally when he initially tried to do something social it was the standard meet and greet that neither party were really that interested in. Skydiving, though? That sounded legitimately fun, and if he could combine his duty as a class rep with fun that made things so much better!
He had never seen a quirk demonstration, but he did know the hero name that she had chosen for herself was ‘Phantom Grip’ so it had something to do with ghosts and grabbing stuff. Honestly, it sounded more dirty than heroic, but he assumed at some point he would find out why she chose a name like that. Maybe she had like a spooky ghost hand that she could manifest and move around, that would make sense. Maybe she could move her hand through stuff like a ghost, that was an option too.
Mira had told him to pack some stuff for the entire day, so he had brought along his backpack. He tried briefly to see if Aki wanted to come, too, but she was already gone by the time he had gotten there and left her phone in the room to boot. It wasn’t that she forgot, necessarily, it was just that she didn’t see the point of carrying it around all the time which was honestly kind of infuriating sometimes. His quirk wasn’t fucking telepathy, after all!
He arrived at the train station a little bit later, mostly because it wasn’t exactly in his personality type to rush unless he absolutely needed to. He was dressed in black slacks and a gray polo shirt, both pressed and ironed to perfection. He had on grey and black athletic shoes, which was one of two parts of himself that he seemed to not put effort in. The other, of course, being his hair. The pristine clothes bit was just a habit, but he very rarely did anything in terms of cleaning shoes or styling his hair because he thought that was going too far but spending an hour ironing clothes despite the fact that nobody else in the class did was perfectly okay in his mind.
It didn’t take him long to pick Mira out of the crowd, mostly because he heard her before he saw her. The girl was obviously absolutely filled with energy from what he had seen of her, and half expected her to be bouncing off the walls the entire day. The crowd wasn’t overly large this time of the morning on a weekend, too, which also helped. She was dressed much more casually than the delinquent was, which didn’t make him miss a beat because he was completely used to overdressing for almost everything that he ended up doing. It was basically just his style, for better or for worse.
”Hey, Mira, I don’t think we’ve officially met.” he said in what he hoped was a friendly tone as he slid in to sit beside her. ”My name is Alex.” the delinquent declared, despite the fact she already knew damn well who he was, extending his hand and smiling broadly at her as he did so. Formalities were formalities, and that was just how he was when he actually cared about making an impression on someone. The girl was new, and the fact of the matter was that the whole 1-C spirit thing was a massive failure if new people weren’t made to feel as at home as possible in the class. If he could help in that respect, he would do it to the best of his ability.

phantom grip Indeed. Just as he desired to make her feel at home within the class, she was hoping to get the exact same thing, to get herself closer and closer to her classmates and to be able to make them more like a family rather than just what they already currently are. Mere school colleagues. And to be able to achieve that kind of relation with all of the others, she had to take all the free time she could garner and use it to hang out with as many from her class as she could.
This time, Alex was the chosen one. The proclaimed, and well-deservedly so, class vice-president. What better person to go out with, other than Yumi, to offer her the kind of comforties that she needs to receive in order to feel more at ease along with the rest of the other classmates. With that in mind, the purple-haired teen wished to make this moment great for not only her, but for him as well. So that he understands the kind of person she is and so that she understands the same exact thing about him. It was all about bonding, truly.
As she sat down, knowing that the train would still take its sweet time to arrive, knowing that it would typically be filled with a massive crowd of people, she retrieved her backpack, landing it onto her lap and unzipping it open to check the contents residing deep through. Her hands rummage through all of the contents and her eyes attentively track each of them, ultimately making sure that she hadn't forgotten about anything at home. It could happen, and it surely has happened to her before many of times for her to be taking such caution.
And whilst the girl did such, the person she eagerly awaited to see had arrived. He had startled her a tad, she had to admit, as she faintly bounced off her seat for the moment he abruptly greeted her. At that time, she was also zipping her backpack close, leaving it halfway as her head rapidly turned in his direction, to greet him the same with an usual excited smile. "Oh, hi!" Mira offered him a close-eyed bright smile while her head tilted happily, before reopening them and realizing the approach his hand made for an eventual handshake. As it was good manners, the young Yuugami rose her own up to his and took it in a gentle hold before shaking it once and twice, prior to letting it go.
"Heh! I know your name already! Besides, there's no need for you to be all formal, you know." She gave him a playful bump of her fist against his shoulder, giggling a couple of times amusingly as she clearly appeared to be already having quite the fun time. She'd fully zip her bag close at that point, strapping it over one shoulder and continuing to joyously glance up at him. "Anyway! Have you brought everything you needed to bring? The train should be around very soon." The late teen curiously questions, looking him up and down as she did. 16 y/o | 167 cm 521 words @@alexander

The delinquent’s own backpack was filled with stuff. Food, water bottles, an extra change of clothes in case his current clothes got dirty somehow, a wrapped roll of toilet paper in case a public restroom ran out, the works. Given time to prepare, if anything, Alex would overprepare to a level above most others. There was very little in this world Alex hated more than feeling helpless when something bad happened, so he overprepared in order to prevent that feeling from happening as much as possible.
When the girl playfully reprimanded him for being so formal, the boy shrugged his shoulders and grinned. ”It’s that respect thing, though, yeah? I figure you gotta at least open with being polite and respectful before being too much of a loony.” he admitted easily, knowing that his reputation due to actions in class wasn’t exactly that of a model student. In fact, one might get the impression that he was the opposite. Alex wouldn’t necessarily disagree with that assessment, but he liked to make it clear that he wasn’t antisocial or anything… he just had a problem with authority that he thought was illegitimate.
”Yeah! I’ve never gone skydiving before, so this’ll be super fun!” the delinquent said, bouncing around slightly at the prospect. ”You do stuff like this often? If you did it a little later in the day, I bet you’d be able to get a good chunk of the class to come with you.” he added, catching himself from physically moving around and just keeping his excitement to tone from then on. ”Most of the class will probably be asleep for another hour or so, not too many people are up too early on the weekend.” he added, the grin reappearing on his face as he did so. Darren would probably still be asleep until much farther along than that, probably until noon or something. That was when he started answering his phone, at least, and it wasn’t like the boy was seen without his phone very often at all.
Sure enough, though, the train came into view and chugged along at glacial speed to a rolling stop in the station. ”So, where are we going?” the American asked, tone friendly and excited. ”Tokyo? I’d imagine they have a bunch of cool stuff over there, but I dunno if they have planes and stuff.” he continued, standing up and looking at the queue that was starting to lazily form as the train slowly chugged in.
”You just got to U.A., right? How’re you liking it so far?” he asked easily, tossing an open-ended question out there that Mira could take as far as she wanted to. If she was the close to the chest not share-y type like Naoru then she could answer shortly and easily without any awkwardness. If she was a chronic oversharer like Yumi, she could again take it as far as she wanted to and go from one tangent to the next no problem. Alex didn’t really have a preference in this regard, he mostly just wanted to see what type of person she was and would toss out things and questions to see how she responded so he could get a read on her based off of those reactions.

phantom grip It was indeed something which caught off guard.
Seeing Alex become so enthusiastic, bouncing around in excitement of trying skydiving for the first time. Someone as manly-looking as him, and as tall as him, and as muscular, and as anything masculine as him. Most of Mira's assumptions of his true personality, especially with the way he acts in class sometimes, were flushed straight down the toilet. He could truly be a completely different person when on the outside and when not having an authoritative gaze tracking his every movement. But such wasn't a bad thing. Matter of fact...
... It was the complete opposite!
The wide and bright smile across her features only widens at his reaction. A confident and assuring nod is offered his way following his inquire about the frequency of her own radical activities. "Mhm, I do! It's how I spend most of my free time, either after classes or during weekends! I've never brought too many people with me though. My mom comes with me sometimes, but she's not really into this kind of stuff." She admits, scratching a cheek as she chuckled a couple of times. "But that's okay! I'm fine if it's just you, Alex! The fact you never went skydiving only makes things better. First times are always the best."
And with that said, the train would then soon arrive, the people who have been waiting for it quickly gathering in line, polite as they were. She stands alongside Alex, guiding him towards the queue as they continued to talk amongst themselves. "Oh, there's a club in the outskirts I'm familiar with. We're going to meet up with them, then they'll lead us to the plane!" She explains, gazing up momentarily as she seems to ponder. "It's probably gonna be that same small one with only ten seats. Good thing I reserved some beforehand!" The girl confidently reassures, returning her attention up towards his own.
"Umm, yeah, I did. And I'm loving it so far! It's really cozy and there's lots of great people. I honestly can't wait to do more fun things with you all from the class as well. The last slumber party was the best!" Mira proclaims her happiness and satisfaction towards one of the few first parties the class has ever hosted. Truthfully, it was the first 1-C one she has ever gone to. Furthermore, it was the first party she has ever attented with other U.A students. To know that the year was still young and that there was still a bunch of time for other fun activities to happen, such made her the more intrigued.
Eventually they'd make way inside the train. It wasn't too full, yet it wasn't too empty either. Luckily it wasn't a day of the week though. They would barely even have space to take a single step if so. "Come, let's check over here." She leads him across the various other passenger cars, seeing which one would have a two-seat or even an available four-seat for them. Instinctively, she attempted to take hold of his nearest hand as well, not being aware at first that perhaps she was overdoing it a little in invading his precious privacy. In the end, she does find the right place, releasing his hand and slipping in towards the seat nearest to the window. There was another one besides her, for him to take his well-deserved seat. Unless he decided to take one of the two others in front.
Considering she had dragged him probably so suddenly, no one would be surprised if he decided not to take any more risks. She could though.
"Ahh... Here we are... But anyway, still on the topic of being in U.A... What about you? Did you arrive at the beginning of the term? And how are you liking it?" The same question would be reciprocated his way now. After all, if he was going to be making questions in order to get to know her more, it was only Mira's right to do the exact same. Yet, little did she know that was also his intention. 16 y/o | 167 cm 686 words @@alexander

Mira was hyperactive as hell. ”Club?... Ten seats?” he murmured, wondering just what the hell he had gotten himself into for a second. At the end of the day, though, it was only that – a day. Who the hell knows, maybe it turned out to be fucking awesome and he wanted to go again?
Wait… did she mean the plane only had ten seats? Holy shit, just how small was this plane? Were they going to fly up in a literal goddamn soup can or something? The plane he had flown to Japan in was big as shit, and he had just kind of assumed that all planes were the same. On the television there were basically only helicopters and big planes, so it made sense to Alex his entire life that those were basically it. Helicopters for were news stations and special forces units, and planes were for normal people and bombing runs in World War II. Simple, easy distinctions that made the skies work.
Mira’s response to how she was liking U.A. so far was just as, uh, bouncy as her previous answers. Holy shit, the girl was going like a mile a minute. The train had arrived, and they were off to races before he could get a proper reply in, though, which was just as well. When Mira attempted to grab the delinquent’s hand, she found the instant recoil of the boy broke her grip. He wouldn’t say anything about it, of course, but the instant primal response was for him to pull away his hand rather violently the same way he did when Yumi tried similar shit. If there was one thing Alex did not like, it was getting his personal space invaded. He didn’t hold it against the girl, though, because it was very likely she just got excited and caught up in the moment. The recoil said all that needed to be said, and he wasn’t about to sit there and make a big deal out of what was probably nothing.
Alex sat down next to Mira and found himself being the next one questioned. Fair’s fair, he figured, and she asked about his own background and whether or not he had managed to come on at the beginning of the school year or not.
”Nah, I came here in the beginning of June. It was the tail end of some festival or other when I arrived, so campus was dead holy shit. I don’t know too much about it, but apparently the place was attacked by a villain or someshit and a girl from 1-B – Lani – ended up nabbing the guy and taking him to the police. Our class kinda floated by without a homeroom teacher for a while, we had the Rescue teacher good old Glave-sensei filling in for us. He was super chill, I’m sorry you didn’t get to see more of him. Just wanted us all to improve and shit, basically went out of his way to help the students who struggled and shit in the class.”
A sigh escaped the lips of the frustrated boy before he continued: ”Now we have angry blueberry instead.”

phantom grip The teen was excited for the obvious reasons. Not only was she going to be doing one of her many favorite hobbies, but she was also in the company of a classmate, more specifically the vice-president of the class. Someone who she didn't exactly expect to be the first and only to accept her request to hang out and go skydiving. You know, with his attitude in class sometimes. She didn't exactly take him as the outgoing type initially, yet today she was proven wrong.
His thoughts were exactly right. Mira was indeed caught up in the moment, too excited to even notice what she had done, by invading her classmate's privacy the way she did. She didn't even notice he had recoiled, continuing on her way, eagerly speeding up inside the train and picking a booth for them to chill on.
Eventually, the train goes on its way, not taking long after they had both taken their own desired seats, as she leans back, relaxed, with her legs pressed together and both her hands resting down against her lap. A curious and intrigued gaze is offered to the side at Alex, showing some interest after questioning his opinion on his stay while in U.A. His answer was almost very much expected, especially at the end. "Haha! I can already imagine Junko-sensei’s face if she ever heard you called her an 'angry blueberry'!" The girl amusingly remarks, afterwards realizing she still had her backpack strapped. She took the chance to swiftly remove it from her back, ultimately resting it on her lap before returning to look to the side, focused on the male's gaze.
“But I understand why she acts the way she does sometimes. I imagine she's scared that we end up becoming way too soft. And even I know that the pro hero world isn't suitable for people like that.” She shares her opinion on their homeroom teacher's strict behavior. "She just wants us all to grow strong!” Mira amusingly adds, still keeping an excited beam plastered across her features.
Whilst they headed to their destination, which would still take some time, she stared back forth, seemingly pondering deeply. "I haven't really been proud of myself lately though. I see all of you guys, getting so good with your quirks and stuff, it makes me wonder if I'm really working hard enough. Ever since I enrolled, I feel like I have just been laying back way too much. Hell...” Her teeth stopped showing, her lips now shut, yet its corners still curved up into a faint smile. "... it's either me, or you guys are just working -way- too hard.”

The angry blueberry comment elicited the desired reaction, amusement. It was something they had at least a bit of when Glave-sensei was teacher, but most of the time he saw his classmates nowadays it was with their heads down trying to avoid the wrath of that very same angry blueberry in class. There were some who refused to change their behavior for the new teacher, but those were the ones who got to sit in the land of eternal detention. He would know… he was one of them. His wrist hurt just thinking about it, because what kind of medieval punishment was writing sentences two hundred times on a chalkboard. Like actually, what the fuck?
”I dunno about soft. Honestly, I think people are going a bit overboard.” he said, like he was one to talk. He was one of the worst offenders, if not the worst one out of all of them. He had turned over-training into a fucking science, with scheduled sauna trips to stop the freezing that the overuse of his quirk brought and literal boxes of the cheap hand warmers that he carried around with him at all times. Hell, sometimes he just went out there and just went full ham on a tree trying to cut it down with his quirk until he was too exhausted and cold to continue and then went out and did it again a little bit later. He wasn’t to the level where the tree actually fell down yet, but he was getting there. Slow and steady wins the race!
When Mira basically agreed with him on the working hard bit, there was a small shrug. She didn’t need to feel bad about not killing herself training, but it was understandable why people did it. Of course he would think that, considering he was one of the ones who had to justify it to himself. ”I mean, yeah.” he started, cracking his neck as he paused to consider how to say this… or more so what he was going to say in the first place. ”People are spooked. Tokyo Hospital got attacked, and lots of people ended up dying. Lots of the students are rattled, and I can’t say I blame ‘em. There aren’t a lot of pros running around, so people feel like they have to be able to fend for themselves. They wanna feel like they can protect themselves, you know?”
The boy rolled his neck again, and several audible pops were heard before he turned his red gaze back to Mira. His tone was conversational, and almost too calm and emotionless for someone talking about something that heavy. It was like he was talking about something that didn’t affect him at all, like the plot to the latest popular TV show or something rather than something so recent and raw for many of his classmates.
”People deal with stress in different ways. Like, uh, I don’t know if you heard but the other day Akio tried to stop some criminal out in the street and got put in the hospital for it. Everyone wants to be the solo hero to save the day like Darkshine, and they’re trying get to that level the only way they know how. It’ll take some time for people to get out of their heads that they’re gonna be the savior of the world or whatever and realize they can’t do it all themselves.” there was a sigh, then, as the boy shrugged. ”After the Semper Fi camp is done with, I’m hoping to get some people to at least do that stuff not by themselves so much. Not healthy to lock yourself in like that forever.”
