黒い砂へようこそ ❝ THE BLACK SAND INN AND CAFE was known as a cozy little nook carved out of the hustle and bustle of the main streets of Tokyo. Nemuri Osagawara had made an effort--as had her father--to put as much charm and homey-feeling goodness into the whole shop, and while it was not the largest cafe available, it had its gimmick to draw in the curious and the loyal ones who came in regularly. Nemuri enjoyed her customers new and old alike. Still, despite the regulars and draw of new souls there were always quiet times where the shop was almost entirely empty, either because all the customers were in their sleep rooms or because it was just a day when the foot-traffic was low.
With a long sigh the tall, limber woman with bleached white hair and ice-blue tips stretched her arms up over her head, rumpling the checkered black apron she wore over her comfortable jeans & t-shirt that were her work clothes. Hey, when you're the boss, sometimes you could choose not to dress super formally. Who was going to tell her to change, her staff? Nah, Misuzu was more likely to tell her to wear something cuter, Sohma wouldn't care less, and Riku was the sort to think that jeans without rips were fancy. What a team she had. Only Riku was here today and he was on break, so...eh. Alone at the counter was she.
Nemuri wasn't much a fan of these days. Boredom set in quickly when you didn't have anybody but your tea-kettle and some cookies to talk to.
Then the bell above the front door jingled as somebody opened it, and her arms lowered quickly, eyes bright with joy. Oh thank God a customer. Hell, even just somebody who wanted directions would be better than the dead silence right now. She placed her hands at her sides and gave a slight bow to the person with a smile.
"Welcome to the Black Sand inn and cafe. We offer pastries, tea, and sleep-aid services at a good price. How may I help you?"Miku Hajimari MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Whatever happens in UA just wouldnt help her. The same troubles she had for days or weeks just followed her. Her father figured lied to her for her entire life. Her mother who was thought to be dead tracked her down. Someone was leaking info about UA students, which meant someone snitched on Miku. She considered she did poorly on the rescue course. For a girl who was sheltered her whole life, this was a bit too much to handle. Too much stress, pressure and failiure.
So far Miku barely kept it together. She needed to get away from UA and from Musutafu a bit. But then again, Tokyo wasnt any better. She feared that her guardian would find her. But, sadly due to being tied to UA, she couldnt go any further. So Miku decided to clear her head in a cafe. She looked at a sign that said THE BLACK SAND INN AND CAFE. Knowing her guardian, he loved cafes and would frequent each and every one in Tokyo. And sadly, being raised by him. She also liked cafes. Miku entered the place only to be greeted by a white haired girl who asked if she could help Miku. At first,Miku noticed the white hair, which spooked her as it reminded her of someone else. Although, she quickly regained her composure and answered her question "Oh umm... sorry. I mean... I guess you could help me. I'd like some tea or something relaxing" Miku said shyly to the woman. Perhaps tea would soothe her from her worries

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ Nemuri was surprised to see that the person who entered the shop appeared to be a teenage girl all by herself. What was she doing out by herself in the middle of the day like this? It was Sunday, so there wasn't school, but shouldn't she be out with friends if she was going to be meandering in Tokyo's busy streets? Or with family, if she was young enough. Nemuri didn't let her confusion show on her face, though, since despite her age the girl was still a customer. It wasn't part of her job to ask any personal questions. Instead she gestured to one of the seats at the counter for Miku to sit in, and procured a laminated menu to set in front of her when she did so..
"Certainly. We offer a selection of teas here; those with caffeine are to the right, and those without are on the left." She pointed to a pair of teas on the decaffeinated side. "If I may suggest, Houjicha Karigane is excellent for relaxing. It's quite sweet, and has a full flavor that helps relax the mind. However, as it's slightly less expensive, I would also recommend Gyokuro, as it's still sweet but more mellow, and served at a lower temperature to better soothe the body.""With your tea would you care for any pastries? We have cookies, cakes, and small sandwiches if you wish for something less sweet."Miku Hajimari MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Miku was gestured to one of the seats at the counter. She did as she was told and quietly sat down. The woman then told her what teas were for offer and even asked her if she wanted some pastries. Miku actually had enough cash to choose whatever she wanted. But even so, she was not gonna waste all that money.
"I-I'll choose Gyokuro if its slightly les expensive. And I-I guess I could ..umm...have just a bit of cookies" Miku said as she tried to keep her cool.
She tried to keep herself together and not be an emotional mess. She needed to try and get the negative thoughts out of her head. She needed to distract herself and think of something else. But sadly, she had no one. The only one she could consider a friend at UA was Lani. But she didnt want to annoy her or burden her. Other then Lani, she felt she had no one at class. She didnt hang out with anyone, she was too scared to approach her classmates. And the guys like Darren and Nobunaga just scared her. Especially Nobunaga. But then there was Aki from class 1C. Miku liked Aki, but didnt know how to interact with her. She thought she couldnt interact with Aki properly. And class 1A? Well, she felt she had no one there. No one.
She had no one. And yet, someone snitched on her.
Thinking about all that, just made her more depressed. On the outside it looked like she was a bit bummed out. But on the inside she was crippled and nearly broken.

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ SOMETHING ABOUT THIS GIRL had a melancholy air about her. The slummed shoulders, the dull eyes, the inattentiveness...she had something bothering her. Hm. It wasn't Nemuri's job to ask personal questions to customers she didn't know well, but she couldn't help feeling sorry for the poor thing. If she couldn't ask, well, then the next best thing was offering her something to calm her, like she'd asked for.
At Miku's request she stepped back from the counter towards where a set of fine teapots and kettles were collected. Some were brass, some clay, one was pure glass. Each was a different style and level of detail. It might be safe to say that Nemuri had a fondness for collecting them. "Of course. Please wait a moment."With practiced hands she set the tea leafs in the stopper, set the stopper in a mug, and turned the heat down under one of the kettles. The best way to serve this tea was at a cooler temperature than most, so she had to be careful preparing it. While that was brewing she fetched a ceramic jar in the shape of a cat and took from it a quartet of cookies with a pair of wooden tongs. Each one was a toasty golden color with a sprinkling of brown sugar on top, and a little 黒 symbol pressed into the dough.
"I would recommend shortbread with your selection. They're more subtle than other sweets, which compliments the mellow sweetness of your tea. And they are fresh baked from this morning."
She took a little white platter from the shelf and set the cookies on it in a clover shape. Like clockwork she set the plate in front of Miku just in time for the kettle to start steaming, and she collected it from the burner to pour into the cup with the stopper in it. Slowly the hot water turned a deep, grassy shade of green and the sent of it filled the room; freshly buttered greens and sunlight, maybe a hint of seaweed...it made the whole room smell sweet and alive, without a trace of bitterness.
"Thank you for waiting," Nemuri smiled at Miku and placed the mug in front of her on a little wooden coaster, "Your tea is ready. Please enjoy."MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

The woman was nice, but then again, that was part of her job. She eventually gave Miku everything she ordered. "Your tea is ready. Please enjoy." Miku though asked the woman "So..um...how much will this be?"
She wanted to get money out of the way, right away. So she could try to enjoy her drink with one less worry. But she also in a way tried to talk to this woman so she wouldnt think about her problems. Miku had her wallet ready for when the woman tells her the price of the tea and pastries. She awaited the responce

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ NEMURI NODDED AND LOOKED down at the shelf behind the counter where the prices were listed--they weren't on the menu proper, this being one of the more high-end places--and added up Miku's order. She considered something for a moment. This girl was still visibly bothered, though by what Nemuri had no clue, and she was still a teenage girl alone on a Sunday. Even Nemuri had had enough friends to get together and do something with in high school, and she'd been a punk those days. Miku seemed very sweet. It was a shame for her to be by herself and not spending time with her friends.
"The tea comes to ¥800, and the cookies..." her smile softened from its proper barista look to one of kindness, "...on the house. Since you look like you're having a rough day. Don't worry, I'm the owner, I can get away with that."
Depending on Miku's next action she would either take and swipe her card through a little register on the shelf, or take her coins or bills from the little silver tray on the counter to put into the register. With that out of the way she snatched her own mug of coffee from the shelf behind her--it was a long black mug, almost comically large, with a swirl of golden paint resembling sand decorating the surface--and took a deep drink. It was bitter as hell but she could feel the excessive amounts of caffeine filling her bloodstream. Ahhhhh.
"I realize I didn't give you a name. Sorry. I'm Osagawara Nemuri, or Kurosuna, if you hear my employees giving me sass. What's your name?" She was breaking a few decency rules here speaking so casually to a customer, but eh, fuck it, she was the boss, and this girl looked like she needed a friend right now.MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

At first the woman said the price and Miku immediatelly dug through her bag to find her wallet to pay for the tea. Although the cookies being on the house surprised her. Finding her wallet she gave Nemuri ¥900 in cash.
Miku then just sipped her tea a bit and tried to get a look at the cafe. But then the woman, the owner spoke "I realize I didn't give you a name. Sorry. I'm Osagawara Nemuri, or Kurosuna, if you hear my employees giving me sass. What's your name?"
Well, Nemuri seemed nice. Seemed being the key word. Would this count as stranger danger? She did just give her cookies and tea and told Miku her name. "Well, maybe just introdoucing myself wouldnt bring me in danger...I hope" she thought right before she introdouced herself "My name is Miku Hanabira"
Miku was still a bit nervous about getting close to people, she didnt want to be betrayed again. She blindly trusted her father figure, who turned out to be a killer. She blindly trusted people at UA, and one of them turned out to be a snitch who is selling information to questionable people. What would Nemuri be? With Miku's luck, she could be a crime boss with a nice cafe as a front. That would be Miku's luck.

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ "IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU, HANABIRA-CHAN," Nemuri accepted the extra hundred yen and set it alongside the rest in the register. She didn't mind being given a little extra, since as it were the cookies were an additional eight-hundred on their own. She'd pay the rest out of pocket later. In the meantime she was running the name through her head, trying to see if it fit anywhere that she may have heard it before. Nothing came to mind. So she probably wasn't the daughter of anybody important, which was a relief.
Folks who weren't running in the same social circles as her family were it a bit easier for Nemuri to let her guard down around. Rich people, even ones who weren't stuck-up dicks, were always so...serious. How was she so different?
She hadn't said anything to confirm or deny that she was in a down mood, so Nemuri didn't press it for now. If she wanted to talk then she could. If she didn't want to, then that was okay, too. "Do you go to school around here? I went to Shibu-Shibu myself. Decided I love the city too much to leave." She chuckled into her mug before taking another long drink. When she exhaled the steam from the liquid inside swirled up into her face. "Sure it's full of dangerous villains and assh--angry people, but there's just as many heroes and really good folks around as well. Even just one of those helps make it bearable."
"What about you, Hanabira-chan? Are your friends busy with the new term, or...are you still too new to the city to have your own circle yet? There's a few great youth centers around here, if you're looking for places to meet friends."

As soon as Nemuri asked Miku about her school she bit her lip. What would happen if she said UA? She listened to Nemuri talk how she went to Shibu-Shibu and how its full of "...villains and assh--angry people...". That one part made her chuckle a bit as it reminded her of someone who would always try not to swear infront of her
But then she asked "What about you, Hanabira-chan? Are your friends busy with the new term, or...are you still too new to the city to have your own circle yet? There's a few great youth centers around here, if you're looking for places to meet friends."
Miku pondered about what she would say, her situation is a bit complicated "Well... I dont know if I have friends... Well.. I mean. I'm sure I have 1 or 2, but I didnt want to bother them. I dont want to be a chore to them." She then thought more and tried to explain "I'm just not used to having friends...my erm..I dont know...guardian,lets call it ...I think. He was like a guard dog or a Beast. Throughout my elementary and middle school, I was alone, because he always protected me and sheltered me from the world." she looked down at her cup of tea "And now,I can understand why he did that. I-I cant blame him. But...he...I mean...I understand him because it was better that he told me himself, rather then I find out from someone else... But he just dropped a bombshell to me,just before I entered ... my high school" she avoided saying UA for now
She tried to explain herself to Nemuri, but she kept leaving out some crucial details and made it sound vague and confusing

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ SHE DIDN'T KNOW IF SHE HAD FRIENDS, or she did have friends but not ones that she was comfortable asking to come out with her. Either way that was confusing and sad. Maybe she was just the sort of person who had terrible self-esteem and couldn't shake the feeling that any "friends" she had were just taking pity on her. Nemuri hadn't been that person in school, but she had known a few. It was hard to show them that her friendship had been genuine and not a burden in anyway, and sometimes, there was just nothing to be done. As Miku continued to explain more about her background Nemuri's theory gained more ground--sheltered childhood, kept at bay from other kids, trust issues...yeah, that sounded like it lined up perfectly.
Poor kid.
"I'm pretty sure that anyone who calls you their friend doesn't think you're a bother or a burden. And if they do and tell you that, then they're not your friend." Nemuri set her mug down on the shelf behind her, a slightly more serious glint in her eyes, though she still tried to hold a smile on her face. "Your guardian sounds like he was trying to keep you safe, but...wasn't sure how to go about it. Good intentions, shi--strange methods. Still. I'm sure he just wanted to make sure nothing and nobody hurt you."
Her fingers drummed lightly on the counter behind her as she shifted her weight to her palms, holding herself up on the dark wood. "Whatever it was he told you, I'd guess it was a enough of a shock to make you wonder who you can trust. I'm sorry, then, about that. Just don't let it taint all of your experiences. There are people out there with ulterior motives. But most of the people you meet aren't jerks, and even if they have their own issues, a lot of them probably want friends like everyone else does." Nemuri sighed softly, then shrugged.
"I can't give you clearer advice than that, but I don't want you to feel like you need to spill everything to me. I like to listen to people and talk about what's bothering them. It's not my job, but...it's part of it, sort of, to help people, right?"
Even if I'm not a hero, I want to help.

After Miku said her part, she listened to Nemuri's words, each and every single one of them. It was nice of her to try and cheer her up and tell her that she didnt need to spill everything. But, what could Miku do. Perhaps she could tell it to someone else. Nemuri gave her an idea on what to do. Nemuri helped her realize, she couldnt keep her feelings bottled up. She should spill it to someone, but not to Nemuri. Well, at least not everything, but maybe just enough to ease Miku a bit
She went back to the subject of her guardian. Good intentions, 'strange' methods. She felt she couldnt keep this bottled up, so she had to at least get one subject out of her system. "I guess you could say that. But the thing is. Well, the irony is that he tried to protect me, but just ended up backstabbing me the worst. At first, I called him dad. Then I called him adoptive dad. Then I called him father figure. Then I called him guardian. Now, I dont know if I should call him kidnapper. He had the bright idea of coming clean to me just before I entered my High School. And you know what his idea of coming clean was? He confessed to me that he killed my parents and took me away when I was a kid!" she then sighed sadly "Im not sure why he even spared me. I dont remember much of that day honestly. Thinking about it, if I was that young, he could have killed me easily. Instead he just raised me....shockingly decently"
Miku understood that by going to UA, a Hero School that someone would eventually figure out that her 'guardian' is a Villain. And she understood that it was better that he told her, because if she found out from another source, she would have charged at him and confronted him with why he just didnt tell her the truth. At least he came clean. That was good. Right?? Or was ignorance really bliss?
"I wonder if this is why he encouraged me to go to a Hero School..." she added

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ WHOA. WAIT. WHAT?
Did...did she just say that the person who was her guardian had actually killed her parents, kidnapped her, and taken her on as his own child? Nemuri was stunned absolutely silent by this additional information. She had expected something sad, but understandable; perhaps she was raised by a step-parent after her biological one died, or maybe it was a friend of the family who took care of her. This was definitely not understandable. In any way. The man had murdered her parents and kidnapped her, and this was what was bothering her?
Hell, it had to be doing way more than bothering! A lot more!
"...okay, Hanabira-chan, I'm going to be very bluntly honest with you. Everything you just said about what this man did, whether or not he raised you well or not, should be told to the police. I'm dead serious." Nemuri stepped off from the counter behind her to the bar before her, leaning over it just slightly to meet Miku's eyes. Her smile was gone, replaced with a seriously concerned grimace and furrowed eyebrows. "I get it that he took care of you. And, yeah, him telling you the truth shows some amount of self-awareness of his actions. But you are talking about a murderer--a villain--and that is way out of your hands. It's way out of mine. Fuck, I'm considering calling the cops right now."
She had said something about going to hero school, but Nemuri brushed over that for the far more important part of this conversation: getting this girl to understand that she needed to have this matter taken care. Sitting down and talking about it to a barista over tea was not the way to go about it. She needed the law, or a hero, to know about this. She needed it as soon as possible.
"I have no idea why somebody who kills other human beings would raise one. I can't even begin to put myself in those shoes. But people who commit crimes like those probably don't stop doing that just because they did one 'good deed'." If one could even call raising a child you kidnapped 'good'. "This is a very dangerous person you're talking about. Love them or not, if you're in hero school or even if you weren't, you need to tell somebody who can find them and keep them from committing anything like that again. Do you understand me?"MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Miku understood how serious and grave things were, that's why she couldnt take it. And she knew she coul- no. She HAD to call the cops. But, for her it was far too late. She already developed Stockholm syndrome. She was attached to him and she understood everything that is mesed up and wrong. But, she just couldnt.
Miku wanted to describe him and ask her if he was at this cafe, considering he loved cafes. But she couldnt do that either, if she described him. She would have called the cops. And Miku was sure he was capable of breaking out of jail. Sos he didnt want an angry Villain swearing vengence on her.
She thought he became a Vigilante and was helping people. She always made sure to remind him not to kill anyone, even villains. But she saw he always struggled with pacifism. Taking the diplomatic route was something foreign to him. She tried to teach him. And she always succeeded at keeping him at bay. But thinking now. She was in the UA. And he roamed Tokyo, free and unhinged. She was scared if he had gone back to his old ways without her.
Miku just pondered and thought everything. She didnt say a thing

黒い砂へようこそ ❝ MIKU SAT IN COMPLETE SILENCE, apparently considering what Nemuri had told her, but without the ability to read minds Nemuri wasn't sure just what she was thinking. Did she agree that keeping the identity of a villain a secret was dangerous? Did she realize that by doing so, he was free to act on those dangerous impulses that lead to her own kidnapping? Did she understand that it was her duty not just as a hero in training, but as a good person, to make sure he couldn't hurt anybody else? Nemuri breathed deeply through her nose and sighed out her lips. Ugh. This was too much thinking for such a slow work day. Now she wished she'd kept her mouth shut.
Well...not really, no, it was the right thing to do to try and help Miku.
But goddammit did she also wish the brat had never stepped foot in the shop.
"Hanabira-chan, I--"
Just as Nemuri opened her mouth to speak again, there was the sound of approaching footsteps followed by the door-handle turning behind her. The large door behind the counter opened and in stepped a man in the same black apron she was wearing, just with a white trim on the pocket and hem. He was awkward and lanky, the sort of build that came with just passing puberty and starting to grow into his adult body. Although his face was long it still couldn't grow facial hair--demonstrated by the patchy excuse of a goatee he had--and though said facial hair was black, his hair was bleached blonde and slicked back.
"Kurosuna, I'm back on the clock. What sho--oh, hey." He spoke, dark green eyes landing on Miku with a slightly surprised look, "Didn't see you there, short-stuff. What's with the face? You aren't interrogating her, are you boss?"
"Rikkun. Shut up." Nemuri spoke like it was a warning, her attention not leaving Miku, like she was worried the girl would bolt for the door the moment she took her eyes off of her. But with another person here...she didn't want to hold this conversation. If anybody was going to be involved it would be the cops, or a hero. Not her staff. They didn't need to worry about this sort of thing.
Riku shrugged his shoulders and walked over to the stool besides Miku, leaning against the back of it with both arms crossed atop it. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. For real, though, what's a kid like you doing by yourself? No boyfriend to pay for your tea? Kuro-sama didn't try to up-sell you, did she?"
Nemuri huffed and stood up straight from the counter, hands on her hips and eyes narrowed. Normally this banter didn't bother her. The subject before it, however, had left her nerves raw and bleeding. "Of course not, you fucking pleb. I even told her which one was cheaper. Now make your ass useful and dust the windows and shelves. I can see the dust on them."
"Yikes. Kuro-mom is mad." Riku's lips curled into a smirk, but as he was instructed he took a napkin from behind the counter and a spray-bottle and went off to wipe the windows off. He was still very much in hearing-range. Crap.MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS
