G Major and A Minor (Kenshin)

Kenshin was bored. There wasn't any crimes happening at the moment. At least none that weren't being handled by someone else. Kenshin would usually be at home practicing his swordsmanship with his mother at this hour, but she was out watching a movie with his younger brother Sai. Meanwhile, his dad was busy at work. Not feeling like staying at home alone, Kenshin decided to head to the park. Perhaps there would be something fun to do there. And if not, Kenshin could always practice with his bass. He sometimes did that when he went to the park, and he didn't mind the occasional audience listening to him jam out.

With his bass guitar in hand, Kenshin made his way to Tokyo Park. It was a nice day out. There were clouds obscuring the Sun, but it did not look like it was going to rain. As usual, there were many people out doing various things at the park. A group of kids were running around playing tag while their parents watched carefully. A couple of teens were gossiping and discussing the latest trends. Two elderly women were having a nice conversation about their day. A young white-haired man was sitting on a bench, reading a thick book and smiling as he fed some nearby birds. There was even a couple shamelessly making out on top of a bench and ignoring the few people staring at them.

However, it was the lovely sounds of a ukulele being played that grabbed Kenshin's attention. It felt soothing, melodic, beautiful. Kenshin was entranced by the music. He began walking quickly to the source of this wonderful sound. He had to find out who was playing such a lovely melody.

As it turned out, it was a man with white hair and sunglasses. Ignoring the fact that their hair colors were a bit similar, Kenshin watched the man play. Damn, he was good.

Once the song was done, Kenshin began clapping. "Damn, that was really nice! You're really good with that ukulele! Nice job!" Kenshin hoped that the man did not mind him listening in. Even more so, Kenshin hoped that this guy was ready for an encore.

How interesting. The ukulele player admitted that he was actually quite rusty. If that was the case, then Kenshin was willing to bet that the man would be amazing if he got back to playing. Though Kenshin did not know how good the guy was, he was definitely interested in finding out.

The man then asked Kenshin if he wanted to hear more ukulele playing. Well there was no way Kenshin would pass this up. "Hell yeah! If you don't mind, that is."

However, the man then noticed Kenshin's bass guitar and asked if he wanted to play something. Of course, Kenshin did not want to pass this up, either. "Sure thing. After I play a song, I want to hear you play again, if that's fine with you."

With that, Kenshin took his bass guitar out of its case, plugged in his portable amp, and started jamming. He began with a short and simple song. It was more of a warmup than anything, but Kenshin liked setting the mood before going all out.

Trying his best not to show off (Kenshin took pride in his playing, but he did not like to look like he was arrogant), Kenshin played the song to its end. Once, finished, he asked the man for his thoughts on Kenshin's playing. "So what do you think? Not too bad, right?"

Regardless of the guy's opinion, Kenshin was eager to listen to more ukulele playing, as well as jamming out more on his bass if the guy liked it enough.

Kenshin was not exactly known for smiling often. He preferred to have the image of being a cool badass, usually reserving his smiles for good fights. Still, he could not help but smile at hearing the man applaud his bass playing. His face just lit up.

But then it was the man's turn to play. Kenshin gave him his undivided attention as he heard the ukulele being played once more. It was a short and simple song, but Kenshin had nevertheless enjoyed it. He was the one clapping now.

"Damn, that was nice!" Kenshin was then surprised to hear the man describe it as nothing special. "What? Are you kidding? That was really good! If that's you being rusty, then you must be freaking amazing when you're at your prime!"

Upon hearing the guy's next question, Kenshin became annoyed at being called little one. Yeah, it made sense, considering this guy was an adult. Still, Kenshin wasn't a kid or anything. He's fourteen! It wasn't his fault that he was a late bloomer like his parents were before him.

Deciding to ignore the last part of the question, Kenshin answered the man. "Yeah, I come here all the time to practice. I'm usually alone when I play, but I won't complain if anyone wants to listen in. That's what I love about music. It's fun making it and listening to it, but it's great when someone else tells you that they enjoyed it. It makes all that time spent practicing that much more rewarding."

Since the guy played a song on his ukulele, it was time for Kenshin to play another song on his bass. After messing around with some of the settings on the amp, Kenshin began playing a song he had been practicing a lot on. With how many times he screwed up in the past trying to get this one down, he hoped that the ukulele player would enjoy this one.

Kenshin was so focused on listening to the man's ukulele playing and on playing his bass, he did not yet notice that a small group of people had gathered and were listening in.

Kenshin was getting more and more excited as he kept playing the song. This one had taken ages to master without making mistakes, and even now, Kenshin still made the occasional blunder when playing this particular tune. So when Kenshin finished playing and had not made a single mistake, he was both relieved and satisfied.

He was then surprised to hear so much applause. Wait, when did all these people get here? The boy had been so distracted with his playing that he had not even noticed the small crowd gathering until now. Seeing as Kenshin was used to being alone most of the time, he was still not very used to seeing this many people close up at once. His face flushed with slight embarrassment, Kenshin smiled as he tried not to let his nervousness show too much. "Thank you, thank you very much!"

This is freaking ridiculous! Kenshin began mentally scolding himself. Why do I still freeze up in front of a crowd of people? I should be used to this by now! I'm a freaking hero! ...Well, technically a vigilante. But still! What kind of future hero can't handle a small crowd?

Taking his mind off of this, Kenshin decided to ask the ukulele man for another song. Not only did he want to listen to more songs, but perhaps with the crowd focused on the ukulele rather than Kenshin, the boy would feel less overwhelmed.

"If you're still up for it, do you want to play some more on the ukulele? I'm sure the crowd would love listening to it as much as I do."

Thankfully, the ukulele guy agreed to play another song. Kenshin was excited. He was ready to bet that regardless of what song would be played on the ukulele, it was gonna be awesome.

But as the man began playing, Kenshin was surprised. He was playing the song Kenshin just played! At first, Kenshin was annoyed. However, it was not due to the fact that the man was just playing the same song, but on ukulele rather than bass. No, it was because Kenshin was beginning to suspect what he was up to.

You bastard! I wanted to get the attention away from me! You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? You want me to be embarrassed! Damn you!

Kenshin could not stay mad for long, however. The song was just too damn good! The crowd seemed to agree. Smiles were on everyone's faces as they seemingly swayed to the tune. Kenshin then smirked. He had an idea.

With bass in hand, Kenshin began playing along with the ukulele. The crowd was not expecting Kenshin to jump in halfway into the song. However, they seemed to enjoy it. More and more people in the park began to stop doing what they were doing to listen to the duo. The symphonic combination of ukulele and bass was soothing and pleasing to the ever growing audience.

Once the two were finished, they were met with a loud round of applause from the crowd. His face still red, Kenshin bowed and thanked the audience before turning his attention to the ukulele player.

"Holy shit, that was awesome! They love us! Well, they probably love you more. But still!" Kenshin was eager to perform with this guy again, if of course the man wanted to. Speaking of him...

"That's right, I never introduced myself, did I? The name is Kenshin." As he shook the man's hand, Kenshin then asked "So what should I call you? Unless you're fine with being called the Ukulele Guy?"

The white-haired ukulele player introduced himself as Genzu. "A pleasure to meet you, Genzu!"

Before Kenshin could say any more, he noticed how loud the crowd was. It seemed as though the people wanted more of that sweet ukulele and bass action. With how many people there were, Kenshin did not want to disappoint.

"What do you say, Genzu? Another song for the fans?"

Before Genzu could respond, Kenshin heard a scream. He wondered what that was about until he saw it. A tall person with an enormous spider for a head was making their way towards the crowd. Kenshin began to grit his teeth in anger. Damn it, why now? Of all the times for trouble to show up! He was just about ready to fight if this person was looking to cause trouble.

However, it seems that Kenshin was mistaken. The spider person (who was apparently a young woman) immediately waved her arms and began talking in a very girly voice. "Ah! Please don't scream! I'm not a monster or a villain! I was just passing by when I heard the music playing. You two dudes are awesome! I was hoping to hear more of it. I'm s-sorry if I startled anyone! I s-swear I d-didn't mean to s-scare anyone or c-cause trouble!"

As the spider lady began to tear up and cry, Kenshin felt horrible. It was clear that she was just a civilian passing by. He could not begin to imagine what the poor girl must go through because of her spider head. Kenshin felt even worse for assuming that she was there to cause trouble, seeing as his own father had a mutation quirk that made things harder for him. He went through similar prejudice all because of his outward appearance.

Kenshin immediately went to the spider girl's side and put a hand on her shoulder to comfort the crying girl. "Hey, it's okay. I believe you. It's horrible for people to scream and panic just because of your quirk. You shouldn't be the one feeling bad. I can't believe people still act like this in this day and age."

Upon hearing this, the crowd began to calm down. Most of the people who screamed looked remorseful and went to the spider girl to apologize. Seeing this made the spider girl smile. "Thank you. Now let's get back to the awesome music!" The crowd cheered in agreement.

Smiling, Kenshin nodded. "Alright! Let's keep the show going! Genzu, let's play something the crowd will love!"

Unbeknownst to Kenshin, a few of the people in the crowd were not nearly as understanding or considerate. A couple of people there were quirkcists, and they were already plotting to start trouble for the poor spider girl.

Kenshin smiled when he heard Genzu talk to the spider girl. It was obvious that he wasn't the type of person to judge someone based on their appearance. That made the already cool person in Kenshin's view even more admirable. The guy even decided to dedicate the next song to her.

Of course there was no way that Kenshin wouldn't do the same. Joining in Genzu's ukulele playing, Kenshin started jamming on his bass. The two instruments complimented each other and went together like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, and Kenshin's blade on a villainous scumbag.

After the song finished, everyone was applauding Genzu and Kenshin. Of course, spider girl's clapping was loudest of all. "Oh. My. God! That was amazing! You two are super awesome!"

Upon hearing these words of praise, Kenshin couldn't help but smile as his face became red. It was a bit much for him, but he appreciated the compliment all the same. "Thank you. That really means a lot to me. Still, I was just supporting Genzu. Now he's the real star in my opinion!"

Unfortunately, Kenshin's good mood was about to be ruined. Two men suddenly bumped into spider girl and knocked her down to the floor. As she began to tear up again, one of the men began snickering. "Whoops! Didn't see you there, girly!"

The second guy was even worse. As soon as spider girl tried to get up, he slapped her face. He then made a fake apologetic face. "Oh! I'm sorry! I thought that you were being attacked by a large bug. But it was only your big dumb ugly face!"

As spider girl began to cry, Kenshin became furious. These two idiots would pay for what they did! Putting his bass guitar down on top of its case on the floor, Kenshin immediately made his way to the two quirkcist men.

"What in the hell do you think you're doing? That's no way to treat a fellow person! Stop acting like a bunch of shameless idiots and apologize to her right now!"

The two men glared at Kenshin before snickering at him. One of them then approached Kenshin. "Aw look, this little baby thinks he's a man! Look, you better just piss off before I send you crying home to your mommy! Got it? Now go away before I have to hurt you, kid!" The man then shoved Kenshin down to the floor while the other one laughed.

As the crowd stood there and watched, Kenshin got up and smirked. If it was a fight they wanted, he wouldn't mind putting these delinquents in their place. "Funny. I was just about to say the same thing to you."
