APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
With his average height and build, Yoru wouldn’t stand out much from the crowd if it wasn’t for his more delinquent-esque personality. With that really slight body, people often wonder why he weights as much as he does, but his usual smug reply is that muscle weights more than fat, hinting that he has more to that body than people often gave him credit for. Spending more time on the streets, either being part of a gang or just doing the occasional parkour runs gave him the health and activity that would be perfect for hero business, despite the looks. His facial features are almost childish, if it wasn’t for a near constant scowl that makes him seem to be always grumpy, or at least displeased. It is an expression of composure, rather, which is his default emotion, if we could call it that.
His peanut colored hair is often enough messy, and seems more like fur than actual hair. Due to the heat his quirk can generate, it isn’t something that can be tamed, and it seems to have some decent fire resisting property as well. Otherwise, he would go bald after a few uses of his flames, but that hadn’t happened yet. His clothes and skin burn faster than his hair would. Talking about skin, it is often marked with the burns from his ability, so whether before or after training, there is at least one spot somewhere on his body that has scorched skin. He is forever healing, but forever burning too.
Maybe one of his most notable feature is his eyes. Ever since his quirk manifested, his eyes turned into the bright orange color that is the same as his own flames. When using his quirk they seem like they are glowing, even. They can be seen as quite unnerving, as even his pupil is orange rather than being black. It has no positive or negative effect on his eyesight though, luckily.
The best part of his physique, and much appreciated by friends and acquaintances, is the generated and constant higher body heat than normal. He has a constant 38 C° temperature (as opposed to the normal 36.5-37), which is almost a worrisome fever by normal standard. If he ever got a real fever, his temperature would definitely go above 41 C°. But so far, even if he got sick, his temperature dropped, which made him feel worse.
As far as clothes go, Yoru likes to keep his style comfortable. Hoodies, shirts and baggy pants are his common wear, with the occasional button-up shirt and vest combo. He likes to wear accessories though, which was probably a habit from his gangly time, so necklaces, rings and belt chains are something he likes to add to his repertoire. He likes to dress light even during the winter, so thanks to his high body temperature it is perfectl enough to put on a hoodie and go on his way, which annoys the hell out of his less cold-resistant friends.

Personality:
At first glance, Yoru can appear to be a really rude fellow who does not wish to associate himself with others. That is assumed even after second or third glances, and often enough, people want nothing to do with him after so many tries. If no one tries to look behind his motives and see his real self, he can be left in the metaphorical box of the stereotyped delinquent. He is quite dishonest about his feelings, and tends to pretend he is worse than he actually is, though that depends largely on the situation. He usually does whatever he wants anyway, without much regard to what people think of him, so that is already enough for a headache.
He acts level-headed in most situations, as he believes that is the source of good judgment. He can be annoyed rather easily, and gets angry just as quickly, but he prefers to observe a situation before rushing in head-first – unless his judgment says to “act first, think later”. Instead of being cold, he seems to be more composed and collected, but there are enough cracks to squeeze a nail in and flare his anger.
Forever optimistic, he believes everything will turn out alright if he makes the necessary effort. Even if not, he would never forgive himself if he couldn’t at least say he did everything he could to come out on top. Problems won’t solve themselves, but wills can make miracles. Whenever someone would fall to their knees and give up, he would be there to yank them to their feet and push them forward to try again, even if the road is full of obstacles. For him, the glass is always full, and as long as he can see a sliver of hope, he would be there to remind everyone else of that – maybe not with the kindest of words, but sometimes the best push is a blunt one. Whining is something he can hardly tolerate, and doing that in front of him will just earn the person a well-deserved smack. He himself hates to lose, but an easy win is still worse than a hard-earned defeat. He will not be accepted by anyone if he won’t take a fight seriously, and that is something he would never wish to happen.
His beliefs are set in stone. Whenever he decides on something, it would take a sound reasoning, a long argument and maybe a few months for him to change his mind. What’s worse, he really dislikes admitting he was wrong, so the person arguing with him will also have to deal with the bratty attitude especially if they are in the right. He would need a lot of thinking to accept the truth of someone else. His thought process can get especially funny to watch, as he tries to figure out his own feelings concerning a situation. Despite being rather passionate and active, emotions are something that are especially hard to voice when he doesn’t want to admit defeat.
Even though he always appears really grumpy, he is moody, and has times when he is just GRUMPIER. No one would believe how extremely moody he is, despite being composed in critical situation, but if he is in a sour mood, he can be really annoying, teasing and picking on people even more than usual. He will even do that to people he actually likes, so good luck figuring that out. People whose company he appreciate will have to deal with his attention, he will push them to be themselves and stop hiding behind masks. That is actually hypocrisy, because he himself tends to hide his emotions, but since he doesn’t consider himself to be the most empathic and considerate person, he prefers if others open up to him and tell him what they think, or he would never figure out on his own.
Even though he is rude and can’t keep his mouth shut when he needs to, even though he is annoying to deal with, he would go through fire to save someone, despite what people think of him after the first, second and third glances.

HISTORY
It always felt like he was the worse half of a whole person.
The Honookaen family was expecting twins, and their excitement was reaching higher levels by every passing day. They were always speculating how the children will be, how they will manage their everyday life, if they will be on good terms with each other. There was also the speculation of what quirk they will have, and if they can be accepted into the rapidly changing society that only discovered quirks some years ago. Will they be good people who live their life in silence, or will they be those that want their voices to be heard and recognized? With the potential of elemental manipulation, the parents hoped the children will be meek enough to lay low and not draw the wrong kind of attention to themselves.
The boys were born on a summer night, and despite the slight complications, both of them were healthy. The parents were happy, and raised the children to the best of their abilities, and with love. As the mother couldn’t bear a child anymore, the boys were the only kids of the family, well protected, and protective of their family in turn.
Elemental manipulation was a flashy quirk, and even though they weren’t as obvious right from the start as mutation quirks, the parents had enough trouble in their lives when hate against the quirkers started years ago. Learning from experience, they advised the twins of being equally careful, and not to flaunt their abilities in the open. It was easier said than done, as Yoru’s own ability surfaced extremely early; he was barely past two when he first lit his finger like a candle. They quickly realized that fire manipulation wasn’t exactly the most sociable quirk to have. As a child, fire was complicated to control, but before he could be let out into society, he had to learn and tame his own flames. Even though the fire he could ignite wasn’t anything notable, it is the exact element that can spread once it catches anything.
His control was shaky. His frustration always built up, but he pushed it back down and didn’t let much of his emotions show outwardly in fear that his flames would let lose. Years passed, and he was almost shaking from the energy that wanted to burst out but wasn’t allowed to. His only solace was his brother, older than him by only a few minutes. He was the one who suggested that instead of putting out and locking the flames inside, he should let them out from time to time or he would burst. The suggestion was heard, but after a car in a parking lot was almost burnt to crisps, he had to find another solution. But only after the week he spent grounded, of course.
The next bad decision was made as soon as the twins were introduced to a gang of self-proclaimed justice-seekers. Yoru was only fourteen, and some of the others were only barely older than himself, so they could not be taken seriously, but they all still decided it is best to retaliate against the bullies who used their quirks to torment others. It is in children’s nature to follow their own justice, and it is also usual that they have no sense of danger... The little group of kid vigilantes dreamed big, but once they expanded their actions to the streets and stuck their nose into something they shouldn’t have, they received a cruel reminder of reality...
The police found all the kids later that night and brought them to the hospital, where their parents could pick them all up. Their numbers were almost halved. Yoru still remembers the face of his parents when they only found him at the hospital, no older twin brother in sight. Yoru was both shamed and devastated, and anger toward the villains that destroyed the lives of so many families flared up in him. He dreamt of the flames of that night many times later, a timeless reminder that they were all powerless and failed to do anything to protect themselves and others.
But the worse was the fact he saw his own brother being taken by the villains, who went willingly, even gladly.
Anger couldn’t even describe what he felt. He was disillusioned, betrayed and abandoned by his own brother. But there was still that flicker that said he has to search for him, find him, and even if he couldn’t get a satisfying answer, he could at least beat the living hell out of him. Yes, that would make him feel better.
Once the hero course officially started, Yoru didn’t hesitate to enter at all. His parents had their doubts, but seeing that he might turn to vigilante life even if he couldn’t get a license, they yielded. And even they could see the possibility of finding their lost child if their only remaining one was actively and legally searching for whoever that took him away from them.
Yoru kept most of what happened that night a secret. His parents only knew that his brother was taken along with a few other kids, and nothing else. He will keep his speculations and doubts to himself, and will confront the renegade alone. That night, he was only listed as a victim, and nothing from the kid gang’s childish, near-vigilante actions were recorded by the police. There was nothing holding him back from enrolling into the freshly opened hero course of U.A. Academy.
