He needed help. By the great merciful god above, he needed help and he needed it right now, specially when he was so close to an epiphany over his own quirk. There were some problems with his fighting style and his quirk that really didn't mesh well together and, with Darren's pointers on fixing it, Maximillian had done his best so far to figure out a way. The reason he came to the military camp altogether was for just that, to see how he can learn to better use his quirk by trying out some old-fashioned 'military discipline', see if that would whip him into shape. It worked, to an extent.
He was an idiot to think that quirkless people could teach him how to better use his quirk for crowd control without having to constantly create ice and exhausting himself. No, he needed the help of someone quirked, that he trusted and respected. His options were scarce on that one. He could invite Darren, but he was probably busy already with doing his random shit, like fighting everything that breathes and moves. He'd die before asking Rin or god forbid Jasmine for help, so those were out of the way.
He trusted others, like Kaito, Levi.. though they never struck him as the "fighting" type. No, he needed someone else, someone he had probably not talked to that much, since he tends to not interact with the fighter people that much.
One did come up to mind, even if he felt a little apprehensive about it. First because it was a girl, which is always a red flag for him thanks to his fear of being unable to hold back his perversion, second because it was Kanna and, honestly, he doesn't think she likes him that much. Fuck it, you know? His intentions were sincere and he just wanted to improve, he didn't think Kanna would judge him for that, because who would?
Breathing deep to quell his own apprehensions and fears, he moved to his phone, typing a very quick DM to Kanna. A simple request for her to come over to the Combat Area, that he needed help developing his fighting style and that, out of all people he knew who could fight, she was really the only one he could trust.

Kanna really had no real reason to come by the Army base beyond the fact that it was there, filled to the brim with advanced technology, some of which she'd never even seen. Sure, scientific progress may have ground to a near halt with the advent of Quirks, but it yet remained very much alive, pressing forth at a snail's pace. Just like the army no doubt wanted to see everyone's Quirks though, Kanna too appreciated the chance to see those, as well as some of the aces the military had hidden up their sleeve. She'd seen very interesting things thus far, tried out amazing pieces of equipment, even come up with some ideas she could put to use in the future.
Yet so long as the whole "meet the army" event kept going strong, she too would keep stopping by and looking at the sights, every so often finding this or that place to get some training done. Indeed, the last thing Kanna expected to find here were lessons on how to use her Quirk... Not even their teachers could offer such, with no any other methods of teaching available except for guiding the students into discovering those themselves. And with all this technology, with all these chance meetings of fellow Quirkers, she was slowly getting there; it almost made it worth for the shut in to come outside so regularly. She was already heading for the Combat area, on the opposite end of the base as she did nearly every day, when her phone beeped: "Huh... Maxi...?", mubled Kanna, swiping her fingers over the screen, all but letting out a grown as she frowned at the name on her screen, "What the fuck does he want?" Indeed if she had to pick one person in her class she truly disliked, no doubt her least favorite person. Only Maximilian could fit that role... She replied with a very dry 'kk', and carried on her way. He'd never done anything to Kanna personally, she didn't exactly hate him or anything... But at the same time he'd made it his cause to turn his own grudge against Jasmine into everyone's problems: For someone like the aloof blonde who would rather be left alone, she utterly refused to be roped int someone else's quarrels with another, and promptly looked down on any who attempted it. "Yo... Don't misunderstand, I was already on my way to begin with.", she'd state as she arrived in about a minute, just so he wouldn't get any silly notions about her rushing over to help him. Indeed the way she looked with the slightest frown as opposed to the indifference she normally showed everyone else; it would inevitably confirm what he suspected, not that he needed it any further. Though not exactly flaunting it, that chip on her shoulder peered through her body language easily enough. In her mind, he should have manned up and gotten stronger if he hated Jaz that much, instead of involving half the school. But if he went as far as asking her to improve his Quirk, maybe he'd finally gotten the right idea in that skull of his.

"Yeah, whatever. Thanks for even showing up." He also showed just how bad of a shite mood he really was in, specially after he didn't just see, he was slapped with her body language on how much she disliked him. Appropriately so, he really didn't like anyone in 1-A with special fervor. If anything, he only was on talking terms with Sean and specially Levi. All the others? Either hate, simple animosity or never even spoke to them to begin with. With Kanna, it was a breach between hate or animosity, though it was just about enough for him to swallow his pride to ask help from her. So may god help him, that even asking for her presence would be the first and last mistake of this interaction. "You know how to fight and I need someone who can fight. Is that alright by you or are you going to find some excuse to fuck off?" The biggest tell to Kanna that he was not himself in any way shape or form. He was not the "Maxi" who was cheerful, naughty and playful, who was usually well spirited that liked some mischief. He was also not the "Maximillian" who had such tremendous, borderline dramatic hatred for Jasmine and all that allied with her, that only held cruelty for them.
He was a third Maxi whose patience was so thin that he was prone to lose it anytime. His situation and mental state was so ruined, he didn't care for any bullshit. In this sense, he was more similar to Kanna than what she might actually like to confess.
Turning away from her, to look at the stuff he had on his bag, the tanned boy knelt down slowly, getting his hands right inside it, to move around the books and trash he had within it. He was looking for something quite specific to himself. "In case you can still be arsed enough to listen to my needs, here's the quick thing: I need to develop a crowd-control technique that won't force me to constantly create ice." There was his need, something quite simple that the frozen boy clearly took very, very seriously. Within his hands, Maxi finally grasped the notebook he had been scribbling in, opening it for a second, once or twice, just to make sure it was alright. Mindlessly flicking his right wrist backwards, he threw the notebook straight at her, only being stopped once it was relatively close to her, revealing that he had frozen the back of it so he could control it.
Flick, Flick. Page flicked, it finally stopped at one with comically bad drawings of some guy who was supposed to be him, along with slightly better drawn shapes, supposedly ice. "As you'll see, I've tried and theorized all sorts of shit, but nothing is what I'm looking for. It's either weak or simply too cumbersome." That's his predicament right there, as the boy got back up, turning back over to her while quietly making his way towards her. He was quite sure to stay away from her at least eight metres, just to not have her within his freezing radius.
"You quite dislike me and I am not a particular fan of you either, but I know well you aren't some incompetent twit. You have the creativity and smarts I am looking for to create something new." It was not something easy to say, to actually confess the quality and talent of someone he was not on friendly terms. He never did that before, actually, it was always something new to him which he hoped he did well enough, since he wasn't up to being rejected and duped after having to swallow his pride as much as he just did. "TL:Dr is just this -- will you help me?" The final question, the most important underlying question. Swallowing dry quietly, a bead of sweat gently slid down his forehead, fearing humiliation and rejection already, even if he did his best to not show it.

"I'm here now... If you're expecting a warm greeting, I might as well just carry on my own way.", she replied, shaking her head, crossing her arms and finally nodding in the opposite direction from whence she came. Clearly, he'd have no hopes for kindness or even sympathy from this antisocial blonde. Not to say it took her some great effort to come here and meet him, but she sure as hell wasn't gonna act all buddy buddy with him of all people. She didn't specifically blame him for the piss poor envoiroment she'd had to deal with every day in class, but she did see him as one of the lead culprits. For the most part, this was the usual Kanna most people saw, devoid of any visible effort to try and understand and in someway build a rapport with the person before her. But when two people meet with that same mindset, neither will make any particular effort to nurture a budding connection in the face of adversity. It really isn't something you want to have in common with another person if hoping to befriend her. Since she came here in the end, might as well hear the guy out. Such was Kanna's plan, and so long as Maxi didn't do anything annoying, she wouldn't mind simply talking to him, hell, she might not even deem it as any help that warranted. It appeared he did bring along a genuine concern, a very clear problem to present to the clever hacker, who listened attentively as she sunk on one hip, hand resting there in a casual stance. A crowd control technique huh...?
Indeed with Ice powers like his, he'd be an idiot not to try and exploit his element's natural durability. If anything, it pleased Kanna to find even her most disliked classmate had something between his ears. Silently listening to his plight, Kanna looked over the bad drawings in his notebook, frowning and scratching her temple, trying to make sense out of what he'd been going for... Nah, not good enough. Finally, as they reached the end of his drawings, the blonde reached a hand to her forehead and shook her head once more: "You gotta think outside the box... Out of yourself at least.", she corrected. Nah, she really didn't mind bouncing the ball back to him. But even then the guy still felt the need to ask that question even though Kanna already knew what he wanted. She rolled her eyes, deciding she might as well let him get it out of his system... He seemed all too frightened to ask this question, did he seriously care that much if she said no...? Damn, this guy needs help and not really the kind he was asking her for. Contrary to his stressed out look, the blonde merely sighed, taking a few steps back and lefting herself off, sitting her full rump atop a wooden crate. From this higher, Kanna's eyes immediately drifted down from his form and towards the ground. "If you think about it for one second, it really isn't hard. No matter how strong your enemy, if he has no footing, he can't fight.", she answered his question in a way he'd very clearly understand; nodding towards his feet, making a walking gesture with two fingers, only to then flick the fingers forward, as if to paint a far clearer picture than any drawing. Raising an eyebrow as her hands returned to the crate on either side, she concluded, "There's a lot you can do with ice to make it impossible for anyone to walk near you." Sure, flying enemies would indeed resist this, but if he could incapacitate a whole crowd, leaving only a flying enemy to fight, then surely he could feel proud of his technique? To protect victims like a good hero, if he created a safe zone where enemies couldn't stand, surely he'd have done his job. Whether he made a smooth, icy surface for people to slip, or a painfully jagged ground, he'd get a similar result.

Not that he had any to begin with. If anything, he sometimes could regard her lower than Jasmine in some aspects. Of course he didn't find her nowhere NEAR the level of cruel or evil that Jasmine was, though she was not strong either, not enough to keep his interest hooked on her. It's not like he hated her or saw her as weak, much by the contrary, she probably was stronger than him as well, which was really a bigger factor on the reason on why he would swallow his pride and call her here. It just so happened that he was comparing what he'd call a well-equipped footsoldier to a warship, there really was no comparison to be made here on who was better than who, it always came down to the warship having the power of thousands of soldiers, so to say.
The analogy did still serve him because, just like a footsoldier, Kanna was also human and humans occasionally had great ideas to give, even if they themselves aren't particularly aware of the power of their words and suggestions. As the frozen boy quietly calmed down after she said that he had to think outside of the box/himself, as well as the last comment on the fact that with ice, there was a lot he could do to make sure no one ever reached him stuck with him: not the footing part, what did she think he was, an idiot? Of course he knew about freezing the ground.
Out of himself, using the ice to make sure that they never reached him, while going with his desire of having a way to not waste too much energy while being able to cover a wider, longer area than what his body could do by itself. Usually, the ideas that came to him always demanded that much from his energy, since it demanded that he had to create a lot of ice. By himself, he had no ideas though, by plagiarizing inspiring himself off of someone, he surely could reach a decision.
Who would he inspire himself from, though? Well, he dropped to his ass, crossed his leg and quietly rested his elbow on his leg, head in his fist to think.
Darren, Yumi and Jasmine were definitely out of the park right away, since they don't have the type of quirk that could help him get ideas for this specific situation, even if they were some of the strongest students. Rin couldn't be of assistance to him either, not only hadn't he seen her fight like ever, from what he heard in gossips between students, she also wasn't the type to fight that strategically, at least not the way he fought, even if their quirks could have similarities. "None of them are of use to meeee.." The boy muttered.
To some of the weaker, though still helpful people he knew, which was when one person came to his mind!: Eli Bantis. He had fought that lanky apprentice of Darren's once before and, when thinking about him, one thing actually stood out from that whole experience, that being the fact that he made and used weapons with his diamond quirk.
Functionally, their quirks were quite similar, at least from what Maximillian was aware of: they both created a material, both of them could control it to some extent. This was all the inspiration that Captain Freeze needed for his new technique, at least he hoped it'd be.
Finally sitting upright, still with his legs crossed, the boy clapped his hands just to see the visible cold air fly out from between them, his eyes gaining a small, quite literal golden glow to them. ...
"I know what to do!~ Wanna see?"
