PERSONALITY POSITIVE ✔ Cheerful ✔ Energetic ✔ Flexible ✔ Compassionate ✔ Intelligent NEGATIVE ✖ Boisterous ✖ Forgetful ✖ Blunt ✖ Stubborn ✖ Has Minor Sadistic Tenancies LIKES ✔ Sea Life (Particularly Dolphins). ✔ The color Pink ✔ Cats ✔ Her Quirk ✔ Sweet Foods DISLIKES ✖ The diet her quirk forces her to have. ✖ Math, as it pertains to schoolwork ✖ Large dogs (Excludes people with dog based mutation quirks) ✖ Snow ✖ Sour Foods PERSONALITY Generally speaking, Mei-Lin's personality seems to be a complete mismatch with the inherent brutality of her quirk. She is someone that always seems to be running on boundless energy, always coming off as an upbeat optimist. To an extent, this is an apt description of her. She does try to see the best in everything and everyone. However, she is far more than just some energetic idiot. She is actually rather smart for someone of her age. She is also far more compassionate than most people would be. Her very reason for attending the hero school stems from the desire she gained from her parents to protect other people. It isn't the fact that she'd get to legally use her quirk, or that she would be getting paid that fuels it. It is that she would be able to protect people without finding herself in trouble. Of course..with that being said, she doesn't exactly follow the rules to the letter. She tends to bend the rules a bit when it comes to helping out others, even though it tends to get her in more than a bit of trouble. Of course, nobody is completely a good person. Mei-Lin is no exception to this. While she is definitely energetic and cheerful, she does tend to take it just a little too far, often going from just being cheerful and excited to being outright boisterous. What definitely doesn't help either is that she tends to voice her opinion without trying to be polite about it, without even realizing how rude she can come off as. On top of that, she tends to misplace and forget various things in her day to day life. But none of these are the most questionable aspect of her personality. That doesn't rear its head until she gets into combat. The best way to describe how she acts in combat is that she seems to let her usual energetic nature get the better of her, and becomes even more excited than usual when the adrenaline fills her body. However, that isn't exactly one hundred percent accurate. Simply put..she tends to display minor amounts of sadism without even realizing it. None of it is so bad that it would draw the line between hero and villain. Really, she just tends to really get into what she's doing when combat starts, provided that it isn't a life or death scenario. As a whole however, Mei-Lin is a person that most people would view as ultimately harmless and helpful. | APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 1.6 Meters (5'4") WEIGHT: 52.6 Kilograms (116 pounds) HAIR/STYLE: Brown, worn in a fairly unkempt bowl cut. SKIN/SCARS:Pale, scars across her back. EYES: Mei-Lin has almond shaped, upturned eyes. They take on an amber like shade of brown. NOTABLES: Due to the abuse that her skin took when she was younger, the skin on her arms, legs, and back tend to have an almost calloused feel to them, although they do appear to be smooth. Standing at 1.6 meters tall, Mei-Lin isn't exactly the tallest person. But what she lacks in height, she makes up for in her appearance. For starters, Mei-Lin's hair was once an almost shockingly bright pink. Obviously, this is not her hair's natural color. For most of her childhood, Mei-Lin's hair was a fairly light brown, and went down to about the middle of her back. This changed in middle school. She chopped her hair down to be about neck length, and with assistance from the quirk of a cousin, her hair had taken on that signature bright pink, as his quirk allowed him to 'permanently' modify the colors of things like people's hair and eyes. That was recently proven to be incorrect, as her hair changed back to its brown color after a number of months of attending Yuuei. Now it has returned to its normal brown color, and has been cut into an even shorter length, reaching However, she does keep her hair styled. Most of the time, she keeps it in a bowl cut, even if it seems unkempt. Like her hair, Mei-Lin's eyes are a normal color. They take on an almost amber like shade of brown, and have always matched the 'standard' of beauty. What is this 'standard'? Almond shaped eyes, also known as 'upturned eyes'. However, she is not perfect. The biggest flaw in her appearance is her skin. Mei-Lin's skin is actually on the paler side. Not pallid, nor sickly, But pale enough for people to occasionally wonder if she even goes out all that often. Unfortunately, she does not tan. She doesn't burn all that often either, but when she does burn, it always trends towards being a rather bad sunburn. As for scars, there are several hidden on her body. Particularly on her back, which was where her Blasting Rocks first started to manifest. The initial formation was uncontrolled, and incredibly painful. There are many jagged edged, circular scars on her back for this very reason. These scars seem to be most heavily clustered over the portion of her back that her heart is on. Due to the abuse her skin took as a child due to the nature of her quirk, the skin on her arms, legs, and back have a slightly calloused feel to them. This tends to confuse people, as her skin looks like it should be completely smooth. Generally though, Mei-Lin can be described as 'pretty enough', in terms of solely her physical appearance. However, this changes in terms of her sense of fashion. When not forced to wear the school uniform, she tends towards more comfortable pieces of clothing. Notably, this tends to involve thin sweaters and loose fitting shirts, along with mid length skirts. However, she will wear pretty much anything that is comfortable, and was never seen without her red rimmed glasses. Lately however, her style seems to have changed. Now she will either be seen wearing contacts and a green zip up jacket kept zipped to about halfway, along with her usual more comfortable style, or wearing yellow rimmed glasses along with her various outfits. Instead of being overly loose fitting now though, these outfits tend to be close to her actual size, thus giving people a better idea of what her actual figure is. |
❛❛Everything is on the line. But I'll never know unless I try. |
HISTORY The advent of Quirks was an interesting time for humanity. The old way of life was thrown away after years of clawing at the new class of people. Nobody knew that time of history better than the first generations of Quirkers. Mei-Lin grew up hearing all the stories of how people used to all be Quirkless from her grandparents, and how both of her parent's lives were upturned when they suddenly developed their quirks. Unlike all of them however, Mei-Lin was born during the years where Quirks started developing earlier and earlier in people's lives. Unfortunately, Mei-Lin was born during the transitional period between quirks being completely illegal, and those restrictions being lifted. So while she was intensely excited to see what her quirk would be when it was developed, she would quickly learn that she had to keep it in check, or be kept away from others. Unfortunately for Mei-Lin, this development wouldn't be something that happened in private. It happened randomly in the middle of recess on the day she turned four. She was running around with a few other girls, playing tag. Everything was normal. And then this immense pain shot down her arms, legs, and back. She screamed as her skin started to shred as her arms started to be covered in barnacle like rock, with the majority of the pain coming from her back. Everyone just stood there watching in horror. One teacher made the mistake of touching her. The minute they laid hands on one of her arms to try and pick her up so that they could take her into a classroom, the rocks covering her arm both lacerated their hand, and immediately detonated. Luckily for the teacher, this detonation was similar in power to about a handful of bang snaps being crushed in the hand. It wasn't enough to damage anyone, but the rocks covering her arms were shot out like shrapnel. Several of the teachers who were on the playground at the time ushered other children into the class as Mei-Lin passed out. She woke up a few hours later in the hospital, with bandages covering her arms and legs. Her mother was the first one she saw, and she hugged her tightly, only to explain that she had passed out at school because her quirk had shown itself. Apparently, it took the form of volatile minerals that covered her limbs. Her mother also explained that she'd need to stay out of school for about a week, due to the school's Zero Tolerance rule on Quirk Usage. During that time, her parents went ahead and made sure to figure out what caused her quirk to activate. At first, it was anger. But over the course of that week, they were able to make sure that young Mei-Lin was capable of controlling herself and her quirk. For the first few months after she came back, nobody really was okay with being around her, and even the teachers kept their distance from her. But that didn't stop her from trying to be friendly with people. Over time, people seemed to forget about the horrific events that had happened when her quirk activated, and even more people became friends with her over the years. Up until middle school, Mei-Lin was easily able to be considered a popular child. But over the years, the friends she had made started picking up interests that were different from her own, which had become increasingly tilted towards both less feminine things, and the fact that people were quite literally unable to share food with her. The reason for that second part? About a week after the incident where her quirk awakened, Mei-Lin collapsed in the middle of school, and looked extremely weak and pallid. Another trip to the hospital and a few tests of the substance that she created revealed something interesting. It was made of the same chemicals as Blasting Powder, along with various minerals that she had ingested. So with a simple test of a few days in the hospital, the doctors were able to determine that Mei-Lin's quirk required her to eat the various compounds that combined into blasting powder, along with some kind of naturally occurring mineral to survive. They gave Mei-Lin these kinds of minerals as a prescription of sorts, ordering her to sprinkle them onto any food she eats, along with adding an excessive level of salt. However, we have gone on a tangent now. During the summer before she entered middle school, Mei-Lin decided that she wanted to change her appearance. Unfortunately, the only people that were really still spending any time with her were her cousins. They had shown each other their quirks more than a few times. But she specifically had been looking for a single cousin. The one who could permanently change people's hair and eye colors. She had already cut her hair into a bob cut a few weeks prior. A quick visit to that particular cousin, and boom. Her hair was now permanently pink. However, Mei-Lin was not oblivious to the rising trend that had been occurring as she grew up. Crimes that she had heard about from other people and seen reported on various screens in the more shopping centered areas of town had been focused on pointing out one narrative. The narrative that people with Quirks were committing more and more crimes. While very few people remained to actually judge people with Quirks for this..something about it still made her..angry. That anger didn't go away. In fact, it only grew brighter as Quirk-Assisted crimes overtook even armed assault as the most frequently committed crime. With that in mind, she had been tossing an idea around in her head for quite some time. The idea to take to the streets and deal with some of these crimes herself, as she couldn't stand just idly sitting by and letting it happen. After all, she not only had a decent quirk..but she knew more than a bit of martial arts, thanks to the hobbies she had been picking up as she grew up. At the end of the day, it remained just an idea. She didn't have the courage to go ahead and actively break laws like that, even if the people who were going ahead and doing so to commit crime were getting on her nerves. She just buckled down and continued her studies, like her parents wanted. Unfortunately, her grades started to suffer as she was always distracted by that idea that rolled around in her mind. It always hit her whenever her mind lapsed. The fact that anyone would use the gifts that they had been given as a way to push other people around..it angered her. Sure, she had a pretty dangerous quirk herself. The explosions her quirk could create were simply getting more and more devastating, and the rocks that were the source of these explosions only became sharper and more jagged, along with being able to form more quickly as her body adapted to the quirk. She knew that because she had been practicing with her quirk, trying to get it under even more control, to the point where she could form it just to protect herself, rather than having it explode on people when she merely covered her arms up for self defense. That was what she told herself, anyway. In the back of her mind, she knew why she kept practicing with it. Vigilantes were by no means an unknown force. If anything, they were reported on just as often as crimes committed by Quirkers were. But for some reason, the vigilantes didn't provoke the same reaction from Mei-Lin. Still, she had not taken to the streets. She went to school, then to her martial arts practice, then spent about an hour or two hanging out with the friends she had made at those dojos, and went home. This was the routine all the way through her graduation from middle school. Suddenly, life had caught up with Mei-Lin. She had been putting off making plans for what to do, what High School she wanted to attend..all kinds of things. But by this point, the whole atmosphere around her had changed. More and more Vigilantes were being hired by the government to combat the criminal element. And almost overnight crime rates would drop. But then she heard a rumor that made her imagination catch fire. These vigilantes had become Heroes. So there were rumors spreading throughout japan of a Hero School. Suddenly, Mei-Lin knew her plan. And when the first school opened for business, she was among the dozens of teenagers who applied to attend the school known as Yuuei. Where her life will go following this, is another matter entirely. |
