There was no doubt that the military demonstration was best described as a festival for the burgundy-haired lass. Not only did she get to enjoy the opportunity to try out all sorts of weaponry, but she also had the perfect terrain to try using her drone at. Speaking of said drone, there had been recently a rather amusing story behind it. Fascinated by the basic AI in the machine one of the A course students had wanted to see if she could improve the AI a bit further, and the end result was quite entertaining, to say the least. A green light at the front of the machine fashed a few times as it soared over the encampment, its camera taking in all the various sights that there were to behold. Indeed, currently, the combat drone was functioning entirely independent of commands of its master, courtesy of the upgrade in its AI which make it able to do certain basic commands, in essence, it was like a little dog. It flew toward the outskirts of the encampment, circling amidst some trees before it beeped softly and started to make its way back toward the encampment.
Meanwhile, in the armory both the visitors and the privates on duty were in for quite a show. It all began when a private called Renzo had been showing a demonstration of how to shoot a sniper rifle, it was around the same time Elise had reached the armory for her daily 'let's shoot some firearms' session, to the point that the engineers had already grown familiar to her. After all it was quite difficult to forget her after the first day at the event, her enthusiasm alone already been terrifying in intensity.
Seeing the girl enter the area one of the engineers on duty raised a hand at her in a greeting, inquiring with a smile. "Back again Elise? What gun are you going to fire this time?" The man asked her, leading to Elise to raise a hand to her chin while she stood before the tables that contained all the firearms. While usually she had a clear preference for sniping weapons, she was in the mood to try something else today. "How about one of the assault rifles?"
The engineer nodded his head lightly as he approached the locked boxes of ammunition and soon returned with a few magazines and the bullets to put them into, after all by now he knew all too well that it would be disrespectful to load the gun for the girl. It was still quite an amusing sight to behold, the way she loaded the gun so quick and efficient and then started to practice her gunning on one of the dummies. Of course, how could one not expect that the presence of a 17 years old girl who was able to shoot better than most, if not all of the privates at the demonstration wouldn't cause rumors to arise?
Indeed, as Elise was practicing with the rifle several of the privates had gathered, some even playing playful bets among each other like: When will she get bored, which by the way she never did and actually had to be taken away by one of her friends or forced to leave when the opening hours of the demonstration ended. Then there were times they would bet just how many dummies she could hit within a minute.
But there was one rumor, one story that was too much for Private Renzo, and the moment he heard one of the privates speak his patience had run out. "Heh look, Chibi Delta Force has arrived." Another soldier laughed in amusement, correcting the man. "She's German, not American you dumbass." The two of them laughed merrily but for Renzo his patience had run out. "Hey listen here munchkins." He began as he walked over with a confident stride, a hand slammed onto the table. "I got enough of you using our shooting range as a playground!"
The other privates looked in bewilderment and disapproval at the man as he continued his rant. "You might think that guns are toys, and enjoy getting praised by those idiots, but you don't belong here, and I'm about to prove it!"
Blinking in confusion at the private's harsh attitude Elise looked at the man who ranted almost as harshly as she could get enthusiastic. "Grab a rifle, we'll hold a shooting contest: same target, first bullet to hit the target scores." Did he want to play a shooting game? A slight tilt of her head followed in confusion as the man decided to finish his rant with a provocation. "Or are you too cowardly to show that your skill is a fluke? If so then LEAVE! Leave and go back to your other Quirky shitstains, like that shitty girl that you are acting so lovely-dovely with earlier. You seemed quite happy before, so how about you go and roll in the dirt with her?"
The privates shook their head in disgust at the man's attitude. "Oh boy, he really must be having a bad day." One of the soldiers said while Elise grasped a hold of the rifle she was being offered, her expression hidden because she lowered her head for a moment. One of the more veteran engineers felt a chill run across his body, a chill he knew all too well, even some of the more trained soldiers felt their hand hesitatingly lower to the holsters of their handguns, their body shivering for just a moment. There was an intense bloodlust seeping from the girl, especially as she lifted her head and smiled cheerfully at him. "Sure~ I'll play with you sir. However, if I win..." she turned away from him and into the direction of the target range.
"You're going to eat a handful of dirt for calling my friends and my girlfriend shitstains."
The private faced the target range, clearly agitated as he gripped a hold of his weapon. "And if I win you'll be denied access to the armory for the rest of the event."
The veteran engineer raised a hand to his forehead and mumbled softly. "Someone is about to eat shit..."

The hardest part of the arms festival for Yojin was deciding what to look at first.
Well, that wasn’t technically true. The hardest part of the arm festival was actually mustering the energy to talk to--and remember the names of--about five hundred new people, when he was already coping with the culture shock of being a transfer student to the lowest level class of the biggest superhero academy in Japan. Especially without the social crutch of roommate to rely on.
However, it wasn’t fair to Chimera for Yojin to drag him around everywhere as a substitute for good social skills. So, despite his better judgement, he’d given leave for his beastly brother-in-mischief to go do other things, like practice for paintball with the childish and somewhat terrifying #1 student, Rin.
Which left him wandering through the festival by himself, absolutely overwhelmed. There were just so many things to do. There was the training grounds, where Chimera was playing paintball. Yojin was avoiding that for now--he didn’t really want to embarrass himself in public by showing that he’d never taken a combat class in his life. He wanted to head to the medical tents at some point, since it seemed like a good idea to learn basic first aid, but heading there alone felt a little grim. The rescue training was another place he’d probably feel lost in by himself.
That left the armory. The closest thing Yojin could think of here to “his” element. Sure, he’d only seen most of the gear on display in books, or online, but it all worked on the same basic principles. That was the best thing about machines--everything made sense, and fit together in a logical way. If you knew how a car worked, you could figure out how a tank worked with a little time and elbow grease. And it would be a good enough distraction to help him with his poor social skills.
They probably also had some really cool explosives.
He was making his way through the gun range when he heard an argument start up. Normally, he would have kept walking, but a quick glance was enough to tell that it wasn’t just a dispute between soldiers. A student with a UA uniform on was in the middle of it. A waifish little westerner that looked positively doll-like among the grunts, especially compared to the man dressing her down. He couldn’t catch all the words, but he distinctly heard the word “shitstain” and something about another girl.
He hesitated. She was technically a classmate, even if he didn't recognize her. And it didn’t look like any other UA students were nearby. She could be in actual trouble.
Just move on. A little voice said. Keep your head down. She’s probably got a quirk that lets her spit fire or something. She’s fine.
Somehow, his feet hadn’t consulted with that part of his brain.
Before he’d fully realized what a bad decision he was making, he’d started to push through the soldiers, until he was standing among the little circle of soldiers that had gathered around the argument. It was about then that he noticed that the UA student had a gun. And looked pretty comfortable carrying it. And...was that a fucking drone?
Somehow, he didn’t feel like his help was needed. He really wanted a better look at that drone, though.
“Hey…” He muttered dryly, face dead serious, looking back and forth between the privates and the UA student. He tried to give her an "is everything alright?" look along the way. “I think I’m lost--this isn’t the maid cafe, right?”

As Yojin reached the crowd it seemed that there was a tension lingered in the air, the two participants had just started to prepare for their match when a voice called out hesitatingly, his call making the crowd look briefly at the boy. The soldier groaned at the lad's presence, mumbling something about vermin as he turned back to the shooting range while Elise briefly turned to look at him, a gentle smile on her lips in response to his look, yet for a moment she couldn't hold back the shadow of regret that crossed her visage as he mentioned a maid cafe. However, in response to his concern the veteran engineer lowered a hand to the boy's shoulder to silence him and spoke in a soft tone. "Just watch lad, you're going to be in for a show."
At the same time, the drone floated toward Yojin, its camera looking straight into the student's face as it let out a soft series of beeps before turning back toward Elise. The soldier grinned smugly as he grasped a hold of his rifle. Meanwhile, Elise was quietly standing there, her pose still harmlessly docile as a counter started to go down. They had one minute to shoot as many targets as possible, of course, the soldier was in for a surprise.
A start signal was given as the first dummy rose, and as the soldier raised his rifle up and prepared to aim a bang already resounded from beside him! In the blink of an eye Elise's entire way of holding her body had changed, the proper pose, the way she aimed and the eerie sensation that came as she was still smiling so calmly while pulling the trigger was enough to send a chill across the spine of some of the soldiers, while at the same time the dummy that had risen up was hit cleanly in the head and collapsed back onto the ground.
The soldier grunted in annoyance, looking around for another target yet when he saw another one it was already too late. A second bang resounded through the air, and this time the dummy was cleanly hit in the chest! "What the- she isn't even looking around!" her opponent called in annoyance while the Veteran Engineer explained to Yojin with a smile. "She's actually using an advanced technique that involves looking with both the eye that is using the sights of the rifle, and the other eye to observe her surroundings. It's a technique even most of us trained soldiers can do."
The engineer explained as Elise turned her angle and shot at yet another target just as her opponent prepared to aim toward it. It was clear that the sheer speed and accuracy of her aiming was unnatural for a girl of her age, and after twenty seconds she already had been reloading her gun while the the soldier was helplessly trying to catch up in her footsteps! "Is she a classmate of yours?" The man asked for a moment, seemingly interested in Yojin's answer as the shooting match resumed. 40 seconds had passed, leaving only twenty more for their match and the veteran engineer sighed in amusement. "She's already getting a reputation among our soldiers, you see how she is holding that gun, the way she has her body in a trained position? She lacks physical strength, yet with the right pose she is able to deal with the recoil and above all? She wouldn't need strength if she can kill someone before they even have time to notice her."
A momentary pause followed as he mumbled softly. "Those shooting skills are on par with a sniper of Delta Force, you undertand what that means? She's special ops tier, if this was a sports she might as well be earning gold in the olympics. And at the age of seventeen? I'm not sure who is more scary, a person with a Quirk or a girl who can smile so gleefully as she is sniping at targets."
A final beep came from the counter as the signal was given, the counter up above showing there was a 0 to 40 score in the girl's favor. Of course the soldier was struck in disbelief, staggering back as the crowd mumbled stuff about 'told ya' and the like. Meanwhile Elise lowered the gun and sighed softly, gently placing the firearm back onto the table as she heard the soldier shout out at her. "Cheater! you must had cheated somehow!" Yet as he called out those words a soft beep came from nearby, making the soldier turn toward the sound, his eyes widdening in surprise as he mumbled. "T-That drone, that mark on it belongs to the Demon Lieutenant of the JSDF!" His face turned pale as Elise gently looked up at the drone and hummed softly.
"Oh, you mean To-Dro? Mhmm my sensei gave it to me." smiling softly she briefly turned to look at Yojin, while the soldier dropped his shoulders in defeat. "Impossible... I heard the rumors that he ended up getting an apprentice, but... no way..."
Yet she wasn't done yet. Stepping toward the soldier she stopped right in front of him, raising a hand lightly and turned it upside down with the thumb facing downwards, similar to an execution signal in the roman gladiatorial arena. "You made a promise." The soldier's face turned pale as the crowd nodded in agreement, seemingly calling for him to keep his promise. Slowly the man knelt down onto his knees, a hand raised to scoop up the dirt from the ground, tears of frustration in his eyes as the crowd called out, but in the end Elise merely turned her back at him. "... Do whatever you want, but next time you call anyone I care about a shitstain I won't be that merciful." And with those words she left the stand, approaching Yojin and hummed softly. "Sorry about occupying the shooting range for so long, if you want feel free to take over, I'm done for now~"

It was clear very quickly that the other student hadn’t needed Yojin’s help in the slightest. The delicate, waifish looking redhead was popping off shots like a trained sniper, while one of the soldiers nearby helpfully explained just how badly out of his depth Yojin was. It was a feeling that he was becoming very accustomed to.
That drone, though.
He might have left now that he knew the student was safe, but he had a bunch of questions about the drone. Technologically, it blew Dethrattler or anything else he’d seen in person out of the water. It didn’t even have an identifiable means of propulsions--and seemed autonomous. Maybe even an AI. What Corp had made it? Yojin could feel his fingers twitching at the thought of getting a closer look.
He snapped back to the competition when the sergeant asked if the girl was a classmate of his, focusing on the match again.
“Um. Maybe.” He replied. His voice sounded drier than usual.
A classmate? Maybe. Terrifyingly good? Definitely.
At least he was certain she wasn’t on the other team of the paintball contest. That would be...less than fun. Unless she was using a quirk right now. God, he was not used to being around guns. I mean, who was in Japan? The noise alone made him want earplugs. He could barely imagine firing them.
Just a machine.
Youjin watched the girl until the contest was finished, a little nervous that the private she was up against wouldn’t take defeat well. Luckily, it seemed like he didn’t want to backslide in front of a bunch of other people. It was still probably a good idea to keep an eye on him.
As the mystery girl walked over to him, Youjin felt himself tense. Hopefully she wouldn’t take his earlier comments as an insult. He relaxed when she spoke, however, though the transformation from “cold sniper” to “meek and delicate” was very jarring.
“Oh. No problem.” He replied. He felt like his brain had gone a little blank. Why was he still here again?
Right. The drone. And introductions.
“Hino Youjin, Senpai.” He continued a second later, holding out his hand to shake. “General studies. That was impressive. I feel sorry for your paintball opponent.”
Impressive. Insane. Terrifying. Same thing.
“I just heard the argument. You had it under control, I see. If it’s alright, though--can you tell me about your drone? Um. To-Dro?”

It was indeed a noticeable difference, while she was holding the sniper rifle earlier the burgundy-haired lass had a fierce aura, one that was so confident and powerful it might have been oppressive even, that cold sensation that if one was to take the place of one of those target dummies she could end their life with just a tiny squeeze of her finger. People often said that to hold a rifle gave someone a feeling of empowerment, it granted them a boost in their confidence but one could say that the presence of Elise von Eisenberg felt entirely different once she was holding a firearm! And nothing made that clearer when she had lowered the weapon back onto the table and approached Yojin. The teenager gently brushed aside her apologize by telling her it was no problem that she had occupied the shooting range for so long, something that clearly reassured the girl for her smile turned a bit brighter as she rested a hand on her chest and let out a soft sigh of relief. "That's good to hear, I tend to lose a track on time whenever I'm using a firearm, sometimes I got to be told that it's almost time for my next class or I would end up spending the entire day practicing my shooting skills, which obviously would be a problem." A hearty chuckle escaped her lips before hearing him call her senpai.
Wow, that amount of respectfulness was something she wasn't used to, and after a moment she smiled sheepishly at him and corrected him in a cheerful tone. "No need to call me senpai Hino-kun, considering all of us are part of the first year at Yūei Kōkō." However, one comment in particular drew her interest, making her tilt her head lightly to the side in confusion. "But you mentioned General Studies? You must be one of the new transfer students then~ I used to be in your shoes till about a bit more than a month ago. Elise von Eisenberg is the name, but feel free to just call me Elise."
She gently extended a hand, as if to politely greet him while at the same time she turned her focus back onto the earlier subject that had drawn her interest. "It's unfortunate we didn't get the chance to meet at school before, since I am about to transfer into the hero course, but I'm certain Chi- I mean Chise-chan, Haruto-kun or Saito-san will be willing to answer any questions you might get." A gentle nod of affirmation followed when they finally arrived to the matter that had brought Yojin here in the first place, the floating drone at her side which looked similar to a modern-day army drone was hovering in the air above her shoulder, letting out a soft beep as its camera zoomed in onto the boy's face.
"Oh?" She paused for a moment as she looked at the drone and grinned sheepishly. "It's a combat drone, used to be formerly used by my sensei, I named him after him: To-Dro is short for Touma Drone." She couldn't help but notice the curiosity in the boy's eyes and soon clarified a bit further. "It's a drone the army usually use for scouting territory, simply said I can use it to get a better grasp on my surroundings, the things it sees it actually marks down on a map I have of my current location." As she explained this she pulled out a small device that resembled a handheld console and turned the screen toward him. "However, the technology behind it is rather basic currently, the AI is only capable of very simple tasks and as such it's more a means for me to get used to working alongside a drone to improve my combat abilities."
She paused for a moment seemingly thinking of what she was about to say next, but after a moment of consideration, she decided to spill the beans. "Of course, we wouldn't be a part of Yūei Kōkō if we didn't have an ambition to chase, right? In my case one of my ambitions is to improve the To-Dro even further, but since I lack knowledge on technological stuff and that's not starting about the machinery and engineering aspect I decided to convince my sensei to lend me a hand. You see, the Touma Drone belongs to Kobayashi Touma! Our principal~ Seems sensei was busy working on getting some companies involved with Yūei Kōkō in the hope of starting courses that rely on more 'supportive' matters, like the development of gadgets and such? It's for that reason I was given permission to gather some of our students to try to develop a drone. If the prototype is of a satisfactory result he promised me that the companies will be impressed enough to contribute to our research and maybe even want to get involved with us!"
She excitedly clapped her hands together while the drone beeped a few times in response. "Of course, that's easier said than done. While I was able to get the blueprints of a drone, and have been given the funding for this project, it doesn't change the fact I need someone skilled with machines and robotics to deal with the creation of the drone, and while I know someone who might be able to do the programming of the drone's artificial intelligence to a level that would impress the companies, I don't really know anyone who has the skills to actually build a drone."
She looked from the drone back to Yojin and grinned at him. "Why the sudden interest? If you're about to ask if he is for sale, then I'll have to disappoint ya~ He's a precious gift from my mentor." She nodded her head a few times as she looked back at the drone and hummed softly. "That is why I want to surprise sensei by getting an even more amazing drone made someday~"

Every damn sentence the girl said raised about twenty new questions in Yojin’s head. The girl--Elise von something (That meant she was German, right? Or a Vampire)--was only a first year? She used to be general studies, but transferred out? You could transfer out of general studies? She had a military drone as a pet? Her friend--her principle--the ex-military sniper was the principle? And they were trying to get hero tech companies to sponsor the school?
Instead of asking any of them, he helpfully replied by blinking, face blank.
“Huh?”
Shit. No. That was not what he meant to do. She was going to think he was an absolute idiot. He’d managed to stumble onto another student who was interested in his speciality--the entire reason he’d enrolled in UA, and all he could say was “huh?” This was going to be a worse first impression than he’d had with Chimera.
“Wait. I meant--” He stumbled, trying to figure out what exactly he meant. He didn’t have anything on himself to show off his quirk. Only his tools, which..yeah, that wasn’t going to help. Touching the drone wasn’t going to be a good idea.
As his brain hurtled into panic mode, he reached out, grabbing one of the unloaded pistols from a display case nearby.
“Here. Watch.” Yojin muttered, looking down at the weapon in his hand, holding it by the grip, barrel pointed at the ground. This was the first time he’d actually held a gun. It was heavier than he’d thought it would be. Even though it wasn’t loaded, touching it felt strange.
He focused on what he’d just seen. Not the marksmanship. Simpler. Loading the gun. Unlocking the safety.. Diagrams he’d read online. How a gun fit together, and how to take them apart. Soldiers needed to disassemble--or “field strip” they called it--weapons to keep them in good condition, clean out dirt and gunpowder residue to prevent jams.
There should be a pin--right there.
The gun in his hands started to neatly take itself apart. The dummy magazine ejected itself without any movement from Yojin, first, before the barrel unlocked, and the slide shot out. Yojin reached out to catch it absentmindedly, eyes vacant, as more pins popped out and screws undid themselves, piece by piece, until he had a naked skeleton of a weapon in front of himself, parts lying around it.
“I might know someone who’d be very interested in working on your project, Semp--Elise.” He said, his hands shaking slightly, looking back up to meet her eyes. “To-dro is the most advanced thing I’ve seen, but I’m a quick learner.”
One of the soldiers leaned over to look at the disassembled pistol, and let out a surprised grunt. Apparently, he’d been watching them the whole time.
“Not bad. You should talk to the engineers when you get a chance. They’ll hate you.” The soldier said. “Now--you gonna clean up?”
The last was accompanied by a pointed stare. Yojin got the hint.
He reached out, putting his hand on the pieces of the gun, and going through the same process, only in reverse. It was easier to think, oddly, while he was doing this.
“The workshop in UA is pretty rough. I was talking to Tsutsuji-sensei about improvements, but if I have an actual project to suggest, that’ll help. If you’re alright with it, I’d love to take an inside look at To-dro as soon as I can. It’ll be good if you can find a programmer. I don’t do that part.”
He sighed, clicking the slide of the gun back into place manually. It still felt heavier than it should, and holding it felt...weird, but it was easier now than it had been before.
“If we can find a tent, I’d even be willing to take a look at him here, so I can get a component list done. Though...as payment--” Even though we’re both getting something out of this. “I might ask you to give me some marksmanship tips. Like. How to aim. And hold the gun when you fire.”

It didn't take a genius to notice that the boy before her was hopelessly lost, at least judging from the way he was blinking and that short reply made it evident. If she was entirely honest, she couldn't blame him. The burgundy-haired lass was quite aware of the fact that she was often described as an extremely energetic person who tended to approach life at her own pace, a pace which was fast enough for a Nascar car to have troubles keeping up with her. It was something Elise had grown obvious toward in more recent days, and perhaps it made her appreciate her beloved Tetsuko's ability to keep up with her pace all the more. She gave Yojin a moment to recover, her expression remaining one of a calm smile while she awaited his reaction.
"Hmm?" Trying to get a grasp on the meaning behind the boy's stumbling attempts to engage in a conversation with her, the moment he told her to 'watch' Elise couldn't help but find herself as the one blinking in confusion, watching the boy reach out and grab one of the unloaded pistols from a nearby display case. What could he possibly want to do with that? The gun wasn't loaded so to fire it would be quite difficult unless his quirk was some sort of Augmentation that might enhance the gun? Maybe it would allow him to create bullets or something! That would be a pretty neat ability to have! Watching Yojin concentrate on the gun in his hands the girl's confusion turned into clear interest as she saw the gun slowly, but surely disassemble itself, piece by piece, part by part it became undone until quite literally only a naked skeleton of the former firearm remained. "That certainly is an impressive ability to possess. Hopefully, it only applies to weapons like guns... I'd dread to see you accidentally disrobe a girl of her clothes in a similar fashion." Elise mused in a playful jest, yet in the back of her mind couldn't resist the thought for a moment of how fun it would be to 'disarm' the iron-blooded girl like that, stripped of all clothing... Of course, those type of ideas were better left in the back of her mind, and only executed when it was just the two of them!
"I think I get the cue~" Elise hummed in agreement as Yojin commented about knowing someone who might had been very interested in working on the project involving the To-dro upgrades. Truth to be told, if they could get proper schematics and a skill like Yojin's, then assembling the drone shouldn't prove to be too much of an issue at all! In fact, it might had been a great boon to have someone on the project who had such a deeply ingrained control and understanding of the engineering aspects of the creation process behind the drone! Still, hearing the soldier's compliment at Yojin she couldn't help but chuckle, she was sure the engineers would feel slightly offended in their pride if someone outdid them like that simply because of a Quirk.
With her, most of the soldiers had at least begrudgingly been forced to accept the fact that her ability was a skill that was honed, an affinity for firearms, an unhealthy interest in how to wield them having given birth to the young markswoman, and as such, being that it was a skill that was trained, it was easier to tolerate than someone who accomplished the same feat through a quirk.
Watching Yojin pull the gun back together Elise nodded her head lightly in affirmation. "True, if you have an actual project to propose it is likely that the workshop will be able to attain more finances for upgrades and new equipment." The burgundy-haired lass answered while she thought about the matter of the programmer. "I do have someone in mind for the programming~ However, I think we best keep disassembling To-dro for when we are back at the workshop~" In the end, if something went wrong with To-Dro, it was best at a place where they could fix it safely like the workshop. Still, it seemed that Yojin had successfully, and rather skillfully reassembled the gun, which still continued to impress the young Eisenberg. It took a lot of skill and knowledge to do that sort of stuff!
"I guess we could possibly take a look at him already, as long as you are a hundred percent certain that you can reassemble him without any complications to his systems~ I dread the idea of him malfunctioning at a place like this." Elise chimed in, but when he mentioned a payment she couldn't help but chuckle. As someone who adored firearms she couldn't help but enjoy it when someone expressed a similar interest in them, so obviously when Yojin inquired about her teaching him how to aim or hold a gun to fire it, the girl couldn't help but grin at the thought of that being considered 'payment'.
"Sure~ I don't mind teaching you a thing or two about guns~ Although I might not be the best at explaining such things, I certainly don't mind trying~" The burgundy-haired lass hummed happily as she continued to explain. "To be entirely honest, I'm someone who learns through imitation and adaption, better said I had my sensei show me how to do such things, and then learn to adapt the motions to improve my own handling with them. Take a sniper rifle for example, the recoil is usually way too much for someone with a build like myself, but by properly adjusting my firing stance and the way I hold the rifle I can handle the recoil with remarkable ease~"
Indeed, people still were slightly flabbergasted when they saw a small and fragile-looking girl like her wielding a large weapon like a sniper rifle, but perhaps it was also partly because her quirk ensured any damage from the recoil to her body was easily dealt with?

Yojin had almost been afraid to look at Elise after he finished though he didn’t show it, standing impassive, hands shoved in his pockets after he’d put the gun back on the stand. When she spoke, he let out a mental sigh of relief. He hadn’t screwed up. The relief was quickly replaced by a blush when she commented on the potential of stripping someone. “Ah--It doesn’t work like--” He started to stammer, before he realized she’d been teasing him. Or flirting. It was hard to tell. She’d said something about a girlfriend, though. Which was odd. She was European, though. But he was going to go with teasing, for his sanity. He swallowed, forcing his brain back to the rest of what Elise was saying. Work. Right. Work, then guns. He stared at To-Dro, stepping forward and gently reaching out toward the drone, his hands empty. “Sup, little one.” He muttered, smile tugging at the edges of his mouth. It really was amazing. This was the kind of machine he’d enrolled in UA to build. This was the sort of machine he was going to get to build. And he’d barely been at UA a week. “Not going to take anything off or hurt you, I just want a look, if that’s alright with you.” He continued. It might have sounded like he was asking Elise, but he wasn’t right now--she’d already given permission for this much. He was asking To-Dro. He didn’t know how good the onboard AI was, but...it was just polite. When he used his work, he didn’t feel like he was commanding machines, or even using them. It was a conversation. The habit had spilled over to normal life. Luckily, it was only looked a little odd. Yojin’s normally blank expression bloomed into a full-on smile as he gently placed a hand on the drone’s casing. He could feel a faint static in his fingers, mingled with the hum of cooling fans whirr of gyroscopes. “There we go.” He mumbled. He brushed his hand over To-Dro’s back, like he was petting a cat, feeling the airflow underneath, watching the lens on front track his face. Alright. It was more like a civilian drone than he’d expected. The sound it made was the rotor underneath, set deep enough in the body to keep it stable. He should have expected that, but the placement would limit the top speed a little. What was unexpected was the casing--it was armored somehow. Maybe some sort of super-light carbon fibre? Nothing he was familiar with. On the other hand, he recognized the lense of front--IR/Visual spectrum camera, though a very expensive model. No visible weapons, either. Huh. He’d expected it to be armed for some reason. “You’re amazing, To-Dro.” He said, chuckling a little. He reached into the mechanic’s satchel at his hip, and took out a notebook of his, quickly starting to jot down measurements and potential upgrades. “Alright. Um. Sorry about that. You didn’t want me to take it apart so...that’s my quick look. The thing about any sort of drone is you’re always fighting weight--if you want to give it better armor, or more cameras, you either need a better motor, or rotor, or...take something out.” He lifted his pen, biting the end. His eyes had gone dreamy and far off, full of manic energy. This was a mad scientist in the making here. “I have a fun idea, though. I think you’re electric, which is...fine?” He swallowed, hoping his guess wasn’t wrong. “It’s actually what you want for long-distance or long-duration, because you can even charge on solar. But…” Yojin stood up, staring at the drone, very, very hard again. He was going to need to weigh it. “I’ve got a moped back at school--and when I rigged it up in my father’s shop, we used a series of micro-gas injectors. Much better power density. Which means more armor or cameras. You’ll just need to do maintenance more often.” He cleared his throat, realized he’d probably gone into more detail than he needed. Elise probably didn’t want to hear the little details. It was a bad habit of his. “Um. Anyway. That’s all I can do now without taking it apart more.” He closed his book, turning another rare smile to Elise. Even if he was boring her, he was still grateful for the chance. “For the gun thing...most I’m just looking at how to drip, and deal with the recoil. I’m...a bit stronger than you. Um. Physically. That is. But I’m less likely to be using an actual gun, and more likely to be using gun-grip weapons.” He shrugged. “If it’s alright...while you give me some pointers, how did you end up at UA, anyway? Where are you from?”

She had to admit, Yojin's flustered reaction to her remark had been endearing, even if it was merely a joke she had made, she couldn't help but find herself enjoying the reactions of the teenager. It was odd, how despite the fact she carried a certain shyness to her, it was as if there was something alluring about the playful teasing that she had done just now. Perhaps it was because being a trickster was in her blood? Now she looked back at it, her mother and father always enjoyed teasing her, although just like them the teasing was always meant to be funny, an attempt to lift someone's spirits and make them have a chuckle, rather than teasing with ill intentions like humiliating someone. For a moment Elise couldn't help but think back about that time she had started that little party for General Studies and got Chise all upset because of a misunderstanding in her intentions. It almost made her worried about acting like this...
With a hint of curiosity in her eyes Elise watched Yojin approach the To-Dro, the army drone merely giving a soft beep and a flash of its green light as if it answered the boy, yet Elise couldn't help but notice the faint traces of a smile appearing on Yojin's lips as he talked to the drone. She had to admit she understood his behavior, she herself tended to get quite passionate and excited about things that interested her as well. She could already recall that time in the laboratory when she was experimenting with her Quirk and attempted to make medicine from it, or that time she talked to Tetsuko about firearms. Obviously, it was easy for someone to get excited when dealing with something they loved.
Although the drone didn't respond, it remained stationary, as if it was a signal that Yojin had permission to inspect the drone. Still, even if one might have considered it funny, Elise didn't laugh or comment about the boy's attempt to converse with the drone, merely looking onwards to see what would happen. Of course, with the basic programming of the onboard AI it was to be expected that it wouldn't provide a more expressive reaction.
Yes, from looking at how his earlier expression was, to the now beaming smile on the boy's lips, the way he affectionately placed a hand on the drone's casing made it clear just how much the teenager loved machines like this drone. The faint static that ran into his fingers, mingled with the gentle hum of a cooling fan could have easily been compared to the bloodstream of the drone, and the beating of its mechanic heart. The way he mumbled as he gently petted the drone made Elise ponder if Yojin considered machines more than just machines, at the very least he seemed to be incredibly careful with the To-Dro, and as such the girl thought she might had found an excellent partner in her endeavors to upgrade the Touma Drone.
To Elise's surprise, the To-Dro made a soft beep noise again when Yojin complimented it, the hearty chuckle from the boy as he pulled out a notebook and started jotting down stuff making her curiosity stir a little. "Mhmm, the Touma Drone is primarily meant for recon, simply said it is a supportive drone meant to compliment my skills. However, the model is quite outdated, so I'm certain there are better options on terms of materials and parts, fortunately, we'll have a nice budget available, and I'm certain we could get some connections to get the needed parts."
She couldn't help but chuckle at the look in the boy's eyes as he asked the To-dro about its specifications and surprisingly enough he was right on the mark. "Indeed, he is electric, I tend to charm him with a special docking station at the dorm." However, as Yojin mentioned some ideas Elise couldn't help but wonder out loud. "Micro-gas injectors? More power certainly would be useful, and I'm sure we could handle the maintenance without too many complications, right?"
And with that Yojin had seemingly did his first 'look' at the drone, making her smile softly and nod in affirmation as they turned toward the subject of firearms. "Well, the main thing to know about using gun-like weaponry, is that recoil is always a problem most will have to deal with. As such it's important to learn how to aim properly and adapt your stance to your body, for example, while my body is lithe and flexible, I boast quite some stamina and my Quirk allows me to recover from the backlash of dealing with recoil, so rather than struggling against the recoil, I simply make a stance where I can aim as accurately as possible, let the recoil go through my body, and use my Quirk to recover from the complications. This type of stance doesn't work for other people, simply said if someone else was to do it, without the proper strength you'll likely start straining the muscles in your arm and shoulder, possibly even tear them."
Perhaps a complicated explanation, but she hoped it would at least make sense. "Most tend to 'brace' themselves when dealing with recoil, it's also why most weapons are fired in bursts and lose out on accuracy when the rate of fire increases, the recoil simply makes it impossible to aim properly."
When Yojin asked how she ended up at UA the girl smiled for a moment and explained with a sheepish grin. "Simply said, my initial reason for transferring to U.A was because my girlfriend goes here. We knew each other since we were children, but to answer your last question, I was born in Germany but moved to Japan when I was seven years old. My parents and I moved to Tokyo because their work required them to relocate. My parents used to work in the medical industry."
It was likely easy to notice the past tense she used when talking about her parents. "But nowadays you could say that I'm at U.A for a different reason."

Yojin frowned, mulling over Elise’s advice while staring at the pistol he’d used to demonstrate his quirk.
“Well. Since I don’t think you have a strength quirk, I’m probably stronger.” He muttered dryly. Chimera had recently set a new bar for Yojin to measure physical strength against, but it wasn’t like Yojin was puny. Hell, his toolbag alone probably weighed about sixteen kilos, and he barely noticed it anymore. “So I’d need to brace. But not rigid, right?”
Yojin made a pose, a little self-conscious, trying to remember the weight of the gun in his hand. For some reason, he was reluctant to touch it again. If he made a launcher, it probably wouldn’t use gunpowder. Magnetism or compressed air would let him use more types of ammo. Hmm. It was something to think about.
He paused, realizing he’d started thinking of making a weapon for himself, instead of for a hero. That wasn’t why he was at UA. It must have been heat of the moment.
Yojin forced his brain to move to the second part of what Elise had said, not wanting to dwell on his previous train of thought.
“You signed up at a superhero school to follow your girlfriend?” He blurted out. “Wow. That’s...actually a little yandere. Um. Impressive, though.”
Okay, he should have thought a little more before he spoke. Still. It didn’t make him feel exactly good about how hard he’d worked to get accepted in the first place. He coughed, avoiding eye-contact, looking sheepishly to the side.
“Shit, I’m sorry. That was rude.” He took a deep breath, trying to think of what she’d said. The way she spoke about her parents implied they’d passed. Which...really was just icing on his bluntness. Was it recently? Something nagged at his brain. It seemed like a bad idea to bring it up first.
“I think I’m jealous that you already had friends here. I’m from Nagoya--it’s a big industrial city to the north. I’m hoping after I graduate from UA, I’ll be able to make enough money to support my family.” He swallowed, hoping bring up his family wasn’t a mistake. He was so blunt. He needed to work on that.
“But right now, I’m a bit isolated.” He shrugged, looking down again. “Though I’ve met a few good people.”
You being one of them.
“Oh yeah. I didn’t ask. Why are you here now? You said you reason changed.”

The muttered response from Yojin made her chuckle for a moment as she shook her head lightly in response. "I have no doubt that you're stronger than me, after all, I never really exercised unless you consider running from one place to another an exercise." Perhaps that was why despite her stamina she was neither above average in strength or speed. However, she continued to clarify a bit further. "I possess a bit of an odd, that is why I meant that even if I lack the strength I can use this method to compensate for it with my own body. Nonetheless, you are correct: you need to brace yourself but not be too rigid, you're not exactly meant to fight the recoil, at least I just let it be cushioned by my body and then fire again."
She paused for a moment, seemingly considering something for a moment as she visibly frowned and raised a hand to her cheek. "Hmm, then again most tend to consider this way of firing somewhat inefficient, unless you train a lot with firearms there is not only the pressure your body has to deal with after each shot, but your rate of fire will reduce, which is likely why most people tend to feel that you need strength to fight recoil. Hold on for a moment Yojin-kun."
She said as she approached him and slipped toward his back, a hand carefully trying to reach for his while she lifted her other hand, seemingly trying to position his grip to resemble the way she would hold a gun. Yojin likely would notice that the grip felt a lot looser and lighter than the way he was holding the gun earlier, but as she finished helping adjust his pose she raised a hand to his upper-arm and tried to tap a finger against his biceps. "With a firearm like this you won't have to worry much, but with a heavy recoil the muscles in your biceps will get strained. You mentioned that you thought I don't have strength quirk, and you're correct there."
A gentle smile lingered on the girl's lips as she continued her explanation, lifting up a sleeve to expose her lithe upper-arm which seemed to have no sign of trained muscle. "My quirk is a healing one, simply said this strain that over time might damage, or worse tear a person's muscles? My body simply heals it, it's for that reason I can fire like this. It's not exactly that my stance depends on strength, in fact it's the opposite because I lack strength the recoil harms me, but my quirk deals with that backlash."
A complex explanation perhaps, but she hoped it would make things clear for Yojin that she wasn't underestimating him. "Someone like you could likely use this method easier since you have the strength to deal with the recoil, although frequent or extended exposure to the backlash from recoil might still end up affecting you negatively, so similar to exercising: make sure to relax and give your muscles a break every now and then~"
However, hearing his words she couldn't help but giggle about his statement of her transfer into the hero academy to had been a little Yandere in nature. "Is it that odd? Some people might want to join this school because they want to follow in the footsteps of a person they respect, likewise, I wanted to come here to be close to the one I adore. However, in comparison to Tokyo medical, this school offered more freedom in gaining additional experience and variation in the subjects they offered, so it was also an educational decision."
Hearing that he was from Nagoya made Elise tilt her head slightly to the side in confusion, a nod of affirmation following. "I haven't been to Nagoya before, but I did hear a lot of positive things about the people there. They say some of the country's greatest engineers come from Nagoya. However, I'm certain your family will appreciate your sentiments."
Indeed, her parents had always been supportive of her choices also, so she had to admit that Yojin's concern for his family was heartwarming, it always was nice to hear about someone who had a nice family, it reminded her of the same warmth that she had once enjoyed, a warmth that was now gone... and it made her realize all the same that she needed to become stronger to avoid others from suffering in the same way that she had done.
When he commented about feeling a bit isolated Elise nodded her head in response and answered him with a sheepish smile. "I'm certain you will make friends easily~ There are a lot of nice people at the school, and General Studies tends to be a very friendly and cozy environment." Indeed, even if her first encounter with the class at the party she had organized had been somewhat... eventful, she firmly believed that General Studies was a nice and friendly place to be in.
"Hmm my reason?" She frowned for a moment, a finger raised to the side of her cheek as she seemingly started to ponder. "To be honest, the reason I transferred from General Studies into the Hero Course is because I now seek power, the power to protect." She averted her gaze for a moment as she steeled herself for the next part. "When my parents were killed... the pain I felt upon losing them was the worst thing I ever experienced, something I'm unwilling to endure again. It's for that reason I started to train, in order to protect those dear to me, and ensure that nobody else will have to suffer in the same way I did."
At least that was what she hoped to accomplish someday. "Of course, I know I can't save everyone, but considering I only have Tetsuko left... I have to become strong enough to help her, to make sure I can keep her safe no matter what happens..."
Indeed, her goal and reason had changed remarkably from how she had been in the past...

The pieces finally clicked together in Yojin’s brain as he connected the girl in front of him with the conversation he’d seen in General Studies class chat on his first few days at UA. One of the other students had been upset when the class had started talking about the Superpowered battle at Tokyo General hospital. And later, one of the other students had mentioned something about a classmate losing something in the battle…
Yojin mentally kicked himself again for even bringing up the subject of parents. He’d thought Elise had lost them recently, but he hadn’t realized just how recent it was. Or how...well, tragic a loss it had to be. It really made everything make so much more sense--Elise’s devotion to her girlfriend, swapping out of general studies, and her recent studies with weapons. As Elise had said, she wanted to be strong enough to protect the people she cared about.
Well. Now that the pieces had fallen into place, he didn’t really know what to say. He wanted to say something comforting, but he wasn’t great at that.
As least she’d found his “yandere” quip funny, instead of insulting.
“I’m sorry.” He said, forcing himself to meet her eyes, and speak more clearly than his usual mumble. “With your determination, I don’t think you’ll have a hard time becoming that strong.”
He glanced behind him at the training grown, his expression turning a little dry. “Hell. If you asked the soldiers, they’d probably say you’re already most of the way there.”
It did make him think. Her quirk wasn’t much more useful in combat than his, but there she was--training to be a hero. Would he decide to choose the same thing in her place? He was pretty sure he’d rather be in his current class--that he didn’t want to be a hero, but what if it was his family that had died?
He realized he was making a face, and shook his head. That wasn’t a good thing to think about.
“You’ve also earned yourself a faithful mechanic.” He continued, his voice still dry. “With what you’ve told me, I’m even more excited to work on To-Dro when we get back to class. And I think I’m developing a bit of a interest in guns today. You may come to regret getting me thinking about that sort of stuff.”
He shrugged.
“On the other hand, it’s a good way to get scopes and weird ammo thrown your way at random. Keep an eye out--I’ll be lurking around the armory for most of the fair. And I’d love a few more shooting lessons. Let’s hope the event stays this calm.”
