Yumi tilted her head as Alex seemed to freeze up. Her open sense of intimacy always left her a bit oblivious until someone corrected her on something or finally told her no. To her, she didn’t really get why, in this day and age, co-ed situations weren’t a thing. About as many people were gay as weren’t, so why did showering separately even matter at this point? If anything it probably just promoted bad ideas. If kids from an early age just exposed themselves to more of the other gender, wouldn’t they have less volatile views on the opposite gender in the future? Maybe find boobs less of a forbidden thing to see and more just a part of the body like they fucking where? Eh, whatever, that was a philosophical debate for another day, and right now Yumi was finally getting a rather firm response to what she’d made as a rather flippant offer. Some looks of disbelief were seen with those who’d been jealous to begin with, some oddly getting secondary pride from Alex as they admitted, they should, but probably wouldn’t be able to say no, and those who’d found the offer ludicrous to begin with (mostly the girls in the room) Just looking at him with general respect anyway. So all in all about 2 thirds of the room were definitely on his side with that decision while the rest were just holding sheer disbelief.
Yumi meanwhile just offered a casual shrug, retracting the hand she’d offered out and resting it on her hip. “Whatever you’re comfortable with Alex. Just don’t think you have to wait here because of me eh? You could probably fit in a whole nother round of paintball by the time im done in there, so seriously, if you wanna go out for a game, I really don’t mind.” She looked to the soldier who’d be going to get her some spare clothes and giggled softly as he scampered off, turning on her heels and twiddling her fingers as she waved goodbye. There was a few seconds delay as those that remained in the rest room shared glances with eachother, before suddenly two boys declared their bravery (or stupidity) as they too suddenly decided they needed a shower despite being nowhere near as muddy as Yumi had become. They rushed off, discarding the paintball gear they’d been wearing on their way. A third tried to join the duo, before a sharp pinch and tug of his earlobe from a very angry looking girl (that many would assume was a girlfriend thanks to the act, but was actually a twin sister).
In the shower, the boys courage soon wained as they realized there wasn’t much they could really ‘do’ here. Course they got the view of a girl in spats and a bikini top taking a shower but if they got too close one accidental bump could be taken entirely the wrong way (of course, they didn’t know just how forgiving Yumi could be in such an accidental situation), so while each of them stripped to their boxers they each took shower heads at the opposite ends of the room with Yumi in the middle blissfully showering away under the warm water. One of the boys briefly felt himself pass out and had to steady himself against the wall however once Yumi realized something. Without Alex here, she didn’t really have much reason to restrain her own comfort for his sake. Sure there were two strangers here, but she wasn’t remaining clothed for her comfort, just Alex’s since he seemed to not want any ‘temptation’ now that he was with Aki. So, with a light shrug, she disrobed what little she still had and fully engaged in her shower, humming pleasantly to herself with a content little sigh, really working the simplistic soaps the army provided their troops and scrubbing herself down, really getting feeling of drying mud off her skin and enjoying some, to her, private time, even starting to sing a little tune as she started to feel better, largely in the hopes the tune of the song would make her feel better still.
“Because I’m happy-clap along if you feel like a home without a roof…~”
Before long she was picking up her spats and turning the shower off, sliding them on and heading just far away enough from the two boys for them to be safe as she adjusted her clothes, making sure the top and lower halves were both comfortably in place, before clenching her fists, and firing off a full power discharge. The two boys crapped themselves, one of them had experienced the quirk before, and the other had just seen it in action, and didn’t want to be on the wrong end of it, each pushing themselves against the wall in the fear a loose shot of energy would strike them, while Yumi blissfully brushed her now dry hair back and enjoyed the warmth of her super-heated clothes, strolling out of the shower with a smile and meeting Alex again, should he not have went to the battlefield afterall.
“Thanks hun. Sorry if I had you waiting long.” Accepting the clothes the soldier had left, they were simple military fatigues, with her muddy and burned pants laid off to one side. Yumi felt the pants were pretty similar to the ones from her cosplay anyway, so she felt she might just stroll out in them and pretend they were the ones she came with. Sliding into them, and hooking the jacket onto her shoulders, she ignored the white tank top that had come with the pile and placed it to one side, grabbing her burned cosplay pants and stuffing them in a duffle-bag she’d been keeping her power suit in and had left in the rest-room earlier. “Feels a bit itchy…guess they don’t make these military clothes out of anything expensive huh?” She commented with a smirk as she scratched her back, reaching for a rimmed cap that had been left too and placing it on her head, her hair still down, and with her super-drying method she felt pretty comfortable in her new clothes, all things considered, giving Alex a twirl and a smirk as she gestured down herself. “Watcha think?~ As good as my cosplay?~”
Of course, it pretty much was her cosplay, only with a cap, an open jacket, and her hair down.

The reason why Alex didn’t speak out this time about the usage of Yumi’s quirk was because in his mind innocence was relative. The people at the paintball court who got tased were just looking to play some paintball and have some fun. The two dudes who audibly slammed themselves against the wall of the shower in terror to the amusement of everyone else in the area, however, got exactly what they deserved. They came in there to be creeps on an attractive woman and got off with a scare and a bit of humiliation. If the wet and loud thump that the American heard was any indication, at least one of them was going to be in for a lot of humiliation. It was quick and effective, and maybe would make the two think about how not to be fucking creeps in the future. Yeah, it was scary to go up and talk to a pretty girl but holy shit their behavior was pathetic and when one of the guys fell on his ass -- and you could tell it was his ass because when he fell he took his part of the curtain down with him -- he absolutely panicked and rocketed back up to desperately try and put the shower curtain back up to save himself from further embarrassment and failing miserably in the process. Fucking idiot deserved every second of that, and sometimes karma worked instantly.
The American didn’t say anything verbally, but the amused smirk on his face as he handed Yumi the clothes said everything that needed to be said. ”That’s a neat drying trick.” was the only comment that he made, more than happy to not actually laugh like many of the other residents in the locker room did to the shower guy's unfortunate situation but also not ignoring it. He was above kicking a worthless random when he was down, quite frankly, especially when the point was already made with about three exclamation points worth of emphasis for good measure.
Most other males in the room were paying rapt attention to the girl as she did a little twirl in her outfit, but at this point it was clear by even facial expression that the delinquent was less than amused. Out of all of the students in Class 1-C it was very possible that Alex was one of if not the most Puritan in terms of what he was okay with in public. ”Looks like you’re on your third set of clothes.” he replied boredly, gesturing to the duffle bag with one hand as the grin returned to his face almost involuntarily at the jab. Sometimes he could barely suppress laughing at his own shitty jokes, and that was one of those times.
”So, Yumi,” he started, his tone going from obviously bored to focused and neutral again in an instant. ”What’s the plan now, Class Rep?” he asked innocently, subtly insinuating that he didn’t really care what they did at this point so it didn’t have to be paintball again. He wouldn’t mind if it was, but given the earlier argument he figured it might be better to leave the door open to other things as well. He hadn’t gotten the opportunity to really have one on one conversations with Yumi before, so he was taking advantage of the opportunity now for some quality time to get to know each other a bit better and pass any other tests she had for him to prove that he was totally and completely a decent guy who wouldn’t hurt Aki at all for sure. Since the connection between the two was basically unbreakable in the delinquent's mind he found himself much less attracted to Yumi than he otherwise might have been simply because there was that inherent level of danger always involved.

Yumi hadn’t intended to scare anyone with her drying trick. In fact she almost thought she was pretty safely away from the boys before she’d turned it on, but instead it seemed she’d been just out of range without realizing. Now nice and dry she was pretty proud of her inventive usage of her quirk. That and her old method of dieting and keeping her figure were the only two uses she used to have for it in the privacy of her own home (one of the few places you could use a quirk without a license to do so afterall). And thus she held a weird pride of both such uses, even if she’d abandoned the diet use of her quirk to try and emphasize some actual training. As much as quirk control was important for a hero, she needed to start training her actual body afterall, and she couldn’t do that if her quirk always left her with an empty stomache now could she?
Though, as she heard Alex talk…something felt off. Sure he still seemed to wanna spend time with her, but his words seemed kinda blanned and lacking the usual Alex flair. Sure he could put it on sometimes, make the extra effort like when he ran for VP, but now…it just seemed like he was pushing words out or something? Maybe it was boredom, but Yumi, surprisingly paranoid when she was allowed the time to think about what was happening, was getting worried she’d crossed the line with her offer a moment ago, stepping a little closer, but giving Alex distance for the most part.
“Heh er…we can keep hanging…maybe check out the armory or…I hear they’re recording quirk users sparring in the combat areas but…erm…” She lowered her hands infront of herself, tilting her head with a weak smile and a furrowed brow. “Are you okay? I know I can be a bit…loose…by other people’s definition at least.” She resisted the urge to roll her eyes and remain sincere while still taking that faintly spiteful jab. “But I’m not trying to tease you ya know? That offer was just…who I am, and I didn’t mean to throw you off by it or anything…we’re good right?” She lifted her head back straight and tried to strengthen her smile, but it clearly wasn’t easy for her, leaving her a little unsure of herself, wondering if alex was judging her for her free nature, especially after the argument they’d just had.

”Nah, we’re good.” the delinquent responded, almost apologetic in tone. ”There’s no bad intent, if that makes sense, so I don’t care.” he paused for a second, trying to think of how to phrase the next bit without hurting Yumi’s feelings. ”I’m just comfortable with a lot less than you are. This is my first time in a … public school, I guess, around other people my age. I’m probably comfortable with less than most people are.” his tone was no longer apologetic, just matter of fact. He was never going to apologize for who he was, but he also didn’t diffuse the situation with humor like he might have otherwise because he thought this was a serious topic that needed to be talked out eventually whether he liked it or not. Now was as good a time as any for a talk like this, so it was probably good to get it out of the way now rather than later.
”I only have a problem with people if I think they’re doing things with, uh, what’s the word? Malicious? Intent. Like, if they do something to make me feel uncomfortable or to feel bad for the sole purpose of making me or someone I care about feel bad. You’ve never done that, at least to me so I don’t care. It’s just we were raised differently, what’s socially ‘acceptable’ is different for different people. Neither way is like ever going to be more ‘correct’ than any other way. It’s just how we were taught as kids usually I think.” he continued, doing his best to keep his tone neutral and explain that he wasn’t angry with Yumi except in the moment if at all. ”Like, it’s nothing against you. From my perspective, this is Aki’s first relationship and it’s mine too. I don’t want to do anything that makes me feel like I’m betraying her trust, because the last thing I want is for her to feel bad because of me.” his tone shifted from neutral to more firm at the end, like he was making a declaration rather than just talking a hypothetical. His jaw tightened and his hands clenched for a moment as he got himself worked up before he realized what was happening and consciously loosened his body up a bit to prevent himself from getting more heated and go into a full on tirade again. While he was great at going on impassioned rants, there was a time and place for them and this wasn’t exactly the time or place for one.
”Sorry,” he admitted, ”Got myself a bit too worked up there over nothing.” he added. He might not apologize for who he was, but he was perfectly willing to apologize for actions that he did. ”If we go sparring area, I won’t be full strength ‘cause of the match that me and Tetsuko had yesterday.” he said while pointing to his ribs. ”The girl can go, and we kind of beat the absolute shit out of each other.” he paused for a second and remembered a few particularly solid hits and winced for a split-second before coming back to reality and adding: ”So we if we go there, you can’t make fun of me too much. Armory would be solid, though, they have a ton of cool toys over there. Kutsu was up there shooting shit on top of like a five meter tall plushie the other day. The fucker almost got me killed, I swear to God.” he laughed at the memory of that, the confrontation with the damned mecha being so absurd he couldn’t help it. When the damn thing appeared, he was so pissed he couldn’t even see straight, but now a few days removed from the incident he thought the entire situation was just hilarious.

The words were somewhat reassuring, but Yumi felt there was room to still be a little paranoid. With the amount of energy that Alex could usually have, feeling his words come out rather bland and straightforward…well she supposed they came out that way anyway, just with a lot more oomph to them? Yeah that sounded pretty okay, not much anyone could do to argue with her there. She tried not to push it though, both for Alex and her own sake so she didn’t have to linger on the thoughts and continue being paranoid. “If ya say so hun.” She smiled softly at the first few comments, but at the talk about him being more comfortable to her, she snickered and rubbed under her nose, something she didn’t understand the prupose of, but she’d seen enough cool confident characters do it in movies and cartoons that she’d adopted the habit all the same.
“Honestly I was a public school kid, but they were never used to my antics and behaviours there either. I guess my brain just isn’t wired like everyone elses when it comes to this stuff ya know? I always feel like an outsider looking in, wondering why there are all these weird social rule sand restrictions, when we could just ignore them and all be comfortable ya know? I mean…” She shrugged, making up an example off the spot. “Lets say you like cuddling Aki with your shirt off when you guys get closer, that means you’d probably be more comfortable physically cuddling anyone with your shirt off, but you just make yourself uncomfortable because you tell yourself it’s wrong…can ya see why I don’t get this crap?” She gave a weak, lopsided smile as she hoped it’d be relatable in some way, or understandable…which one asked less of him? She wasn’t quite sure. Probably understanding cause that didn’t require any sort of personal connection.
The clarification about the malicious intent stuff was pretty fair. She wasn’t sure anyone did anything with the intent to solely stir the shit or make the world a worse place, they always had something more…perhaps selfish, but never truly malicious behind them. Someone who would do such things just sounded…horrible, and they couldn’t possibly exist right? Someone who existed solely to make the world a worse place? At least chaotic villains in shows did it for their own pleasure, to only have the purpose of being evil behind your actions…it felt so unrealistic to Yumi the concept was nigh impossible. Of course Alex probably had a broader definition than that, thinking of anyone who did something that was clearly more evil than good to those around them, regardless of the intent, and she gave a soft smirk. “Well as much as my old classmates may disagree, I’m certainly not who I am to be evil or to hurt anyone. I’m just in it to have fun, spread the love, and hope I let everyone around me have fun and feel comfortable ya know? Its just in me to make sure I’m as comfortable as I can be in what I do and that everyone in my presence understands they can be just as free without judgement.~”
She also smirked and added with a side glance. “Totally didn’t get this from how I was raised either mind. My parents don’t judge but they certainly don’t understand where I got this from either.”
She also smirked a little about this being Aki’s first relationship, and while she did want to resist it, the words came out faster than she could stop them as she cheekily commented “Eeeeh maybe first and a half at best.~”
She shrugged off the sorry and gestured for Alex to start following her, actually feeling much better now that they’d gotten some banter out between them and ready to get moving again. “Don’t mention it, we’re good, I just wanted to make sure you where too. Come on, we’ll hit the sparring area. Maybe we can actually see what our quirks can do eh? I’ve been eager to see what you can actually do on the field when the pressures on.~ Think you’re one of the few classmates left I havn’t really had a chance to observe.~”
Offering back a soft smile over her shoulder she continued to guide them the short walk to the training facilities, a location she picked because of how close it was to the paintball area in part, and also because of the aforementioned reason of wanting to see alex in action. Before they left she made sure to grab her dufflebag with her hero suit incase she needed to change into it should she get into sparing with alex herself, but of course the two might just end up watching any other quirk users be the one displaying their quirks.
when they arrived she recognized the two soldiers taking measurements and recordings in the corner of the room from when she had her fight with Jaz, waving over to them with a smile and not understanding why one of them suddenly dropped their equipment and turned a deep shade of red. She shrugged it off and assumed it was just an accident and they’d turned red from embarrassment, resting her hands in her pockets as she watched two quirk users wrap up a battle. Neither from UA, one toting some quirk that turned their arm into a bow to fire arrows with their other, while the other quirk user could generate shields from his forearms. Was an interesting back and forth to be sure.
“What’ya say Alex, wanna give it a go?~ See if my quirk’s all it’s cracked up to be in the heat of battle and what not?~”

When Yumi did the cuddling example, it was clear from the American’s facial expression that he was utterly unconvinced. ”I wouldn’t know.” he just admitted with a shrug. ”What’s comfortable for you and me is different, but that doesn’t make either of us wrong.” he paused for a couple of seconds before adding: ”Does it really matter as long as nobody’s a dick about it? Like, does it really matter as long as you respect what the other person wants?”
The response at hinting that Alex wasn’t Aki’s first relationship probably got the response that she wanted. A sharp jerk of the head into a momentary clenching of the jaw and a surprised look before he realized how much he was overreacting and forced himself back to normal. He wasn’t going to ask, not because he wasn’t curious but because he thought it was none of his business. If Aki wanted to tell him, she would, and if not he didn’t really care. Getting worked up at all over shit that happened ages ago was pointless to get jealous over. She was his girlfriend, not his property, and he refused to be as pathetic as Akio was when it came to legitimately even innocent mentions of Miku. The dude treated her like a prized pet or something that couldn’t get pets from literally anyone else in the world without the lunatic getting jealous, and the delinquent was determined to not follow that idiotic example of a relationship in his own. It was pathetic.
When Yumi started leading the way somewhere and said they were going to the sparring area, Alex couldn’t resist a wince. He had hoped his earlier comment about his likely bruised ribs would be enough to dissuade her from choosing that route, but it looked like he was unlucky and should have pushed harder to go to the armory. Oh well, as long as it wasn’t full contact he should be fine. He could still use his quirk fine, it was just that any impact to that region might worsen the injury and actually crack or break the ribs that Tetsuko did such a great job bruising. Fucking zealot.
The battle that was taking place when they arrived to the sparring area was quite frankly pretty boring. One could generate shields on their forearms and the other could turn their arm into a bow that fired some sort of arrows. Neither of them were actually trained by the looks of it, because the one with the shield withered visibly under every arrow shot and refused to just lunge forward like he needed to. The impact of the arrow on the shield wasn’t enough to knock the sucker down, and the shield dude moved way too slowly to actually threaten the arrow guy. Eventually the arrow guy, fully secure in the fact that he would not be threatened in the least, started or at least continued talking some low-grade shit. The delinquent didn’t hear the shit talking when he walked up, so he assumed it was new. Both of them had shit tier quirks, and the trash talk really pissed the American off for some reason. The arrow guy eventually got past the defenses of the shield user, and continued pummeling his downed opponent with arrows for at least two seconds after the soldiers called off the bout. Jackass.
”If you promise not to break my ribs the rest of the way, sure.” he responded in a voice without enough volume to be overheard when Yumi asked to spar, but immediately added: ”But after I humiliate this guy. The shield dude looks like he’s on the verge of tears at this point and it’s starting to piss me off.”
While the arrow douchebag was exulting in his win, the delinquent jumped the barrier and waved his hand to get the attention of the soldier recording the fights as the forearm shield dude walked off all humiliated and sniffling and shit. ”I’d like to get next match. Focus your camera on arrow man, this will be over quick. Call out when to begin.” he called out, loudly enough for everyone around to hear. As he walked over to the starting position, his red eyes darted to every shadow in turn as he ripped matter from them and if one knew what to look for it was easy to follow the small, inky black bits seem to slide out of existing shadows and slide right into the delinquent’s own shadow as he walked.
The archer dude tried to do some trash talking as Alex walked without any rush whatsoever, taking his time. He glanced over at the kid to rip matter from that shadow too, but did not move it into his own like the rest of it. He kept it right there, because that was how he was going to just instantly win the match when it started. He tuned out the talk of the cocky kid, and when he made it to the starting area he first sat and then went on his back in a starfish pose and closed his eyes.
”Sir, are you okay?” the soldier doing the recording asked.
”Yes. Just start the match whenever.” the delinquent replied immediately, his eyes still closed.
”Begin!” the soldier then projected, and Alex immediately formed a curved shield protecting against everything that could possibly come from in front of him with half of the matter he had stored in his shadow while simultaneously and ruthlessly clamping down two constructs to bind and then yank on the archer dude’s feet while the other half formed a big ass bat to swing at the guy as he fell forward from the yank at his feet. The delinquent didn’t bother to open his eyes, and just waited for the sickening thud and the announcer’s quick call to end the match before dematerializing his constructions and waited about five seconds after that to sit and finally stand back up without a second glance to arrow guy. He had proven his superiority and humiliated the guy, and thus the idiot didn’t exist anymore. Instead, red eyes turned to Yumi as he gestured for her to come in the ring so they could see how their quirks interacted. Frankly, he had no idea if he could even defend against Yumi’s quirk at all so this would be a nice test to see what level of weird workarounds he would need to come up with to not fall victim to an impromptu tasing.

Yumi wasn’t so sure what he meant by the ribs breaking, had he sustained a recent injury? For the life of her she hadn’t a clue. For a class president she found it difficult to keep up with absolutely everything her classmates got up to, so hearing a hint that Alex might have had an injury…or…wait…was he referring to the hard shoves she’d given him before? Oh…yeah probably. She winced a little at the thought of it being that and awkwardly rubbed her other arm as she let out a soft sigh, not feeling too good of being reminded of her loss of control even so soon, and just nodding along quietly as Alex dedicated himself to taking the field ahead of them. She wondered why he wanted to fight the arrow user so much, but as she’d soon learn, Alex had a cold nature she had yet to truly experience till today. He could seem so energetic and encouraging sometimes…but today he’d been oddly…cold…and harsh…and demoralizing.
She maybe shoulda said something the moment he just went to lay on the floor, but instead she let things go ahead, wincing as Alex used his UA training to so easily curb stomp the quirk user before him. Sure the kid had been a bit harsh throwing back arrows at the shield user even when the match was over…but come on dude, this was the kinda humiliation you reserved for true villains at best. If anything in a weird way this just made Yumi wanna do her best when it was her own turn, and quietly told the soldiers she was just going to get changed, heading off with her dufflebag with her hero suit to a nearby changing room.
Before long, with Alex likely asking the soldier where she’d gone, she was returning in her hero suit. The metallic frame of her helmet holding a visor over her eyes to stop herself getting blinded by the light of her own sparks, her ponytail managing to flow out the back of her helmet uninterrupted. The rest of the outfit was a full body skin tight suit that clung to her curves more for necessity than fanservice, as in her current state she couldn’t let any of the energy leak out of her suit to maintain a constantly closed circuit and control her power. She tugged at some of the points were the fabric had clung to her skin wrong till it was evened out over her body, sliding on her metal gauntlets and filling them with an electrical charge as she got ready for a potential fight…she didn’t wanna think Alex was purposely being a bit of an ass today, especially since they had to work together in the future as class president and VP.
“Well…ready when you are shadow-lord.” She smirked a little, trying to hope that Alex wasn’t gonna give her another reason to feel something was off with him today as she walked up to the sparring area, rolling her neck and loosening herself up, her boots finally filling with charge as they elevated her just an inch or so off the ground, sparks flying between the metallically coated fingers of her gauntlets.
She felt she had a bit of a natural advantage here, her suit already meant she wasn’t touching the ground, and her boots gave her an exit strategy if he tried to come in from right under her, she just needed to learn how the shadows would shift if he was gonna get a hold of them…

Huh.
It looked like Yumi wasn’t there anymore, odd. She was probably going to put on her hero suit, so that made perfect sense. He used his hands to dust off the back of his pants and shirt and instead turned his gaze to the arrow guy leaving the field. His face was all red and there was blood coming from his mouth, which prompted a nod of satisfaction from the delinquent before he turned his gaze towards the arena itself to strategize a bit. No use gloating or anything, it was just the smacking down of an inferior fighter and there was no point kicking someone when they were already down when the outcome was never in doubt.
Mostly a dirt field with scuffed up grass spread across the area, the fighting arena was square in shape and covered roughly a twenty five by twenty five meter space. He usually had range advantage, and would certainly see if that was the case with his Class President as well. If he understood her quirk right, she could only fire off her quirk from her body so even if he didn’t out range her per se it would give him more time to react than in close quarters. He also normally had an endurance advantage, and he did know that Yumi had used her quirk at full blast at least once not very long ago at all. Well, with what he knew about her quirk it would seem like the standard strategy was in order.
He moved out to the middle of the arena to try and trick Yumi into starting her position towards one of the edges in order to give himself time to maneuver. He didn’t sit there idly, either, and actively looked around to rip shadow matter from clumps of grass and held them at intervals as close to one meter in each direction as possible until he hit his maximum range. Each clump wasn’t enough to do much on its own, one decent-sized tendril at best that could be destroyed with one precise shot with Yumi’s quirk but it would be enough to buy him time and try out a few tricks he had been scheming of since the event started to give him the edge he needed to beat someone like Rin.
He invested much more heavily in shadows around himself than he would have against most others, though, mostly because he knew any direct hit in the torso would be the end of the match due to his already existing injury there. Going through with this was absolutely stupid, he realized, because it would be inevitable that he made a mistake at some point and got tagged in the biggest area of his body but there was something to be said about the adrenalin rush that someone got when they chased perfection.
When Yumi finally came out, the delinquent had to suppress his sigh of relief that she had actually posted up several meters away from him towards the edge like he had hoped. It was about ten meters, which meant she was five from the edge since Alex was directly in the middle. This was good, and gave the American room to maneuver and meant that he at least wouldn’t lose instantly, which was good. Yumi was hovering above the ground in his boots, which was an interesting choice given what had happened just now. He didn’t normally have people with shadows directly underneath them, but he had a strategy that could potentially force Yumi to waste a lot of her quirk very quickly.
He held up his right hand very theatrically and counted down from three silently as he took two steps forward to ensure he was in range for what he wanted to do. This was mostly a distraction disguised as cockiness, because it allowed him time to rip matter from the shadow directly underneath Yumi as well as mentally prepare his attack strategy with every available shadow that he had in range that he had prepped while his Class President was changing. As soon as he made a fist to signify the ‘Go!’ command, he let loose the totality of his strategy.
All at once, Alex used five pools of matter in his initial attack. The first pool was the shadow underneath of Yumi, which would reach up and attempt to bind the girl’s feet and drag her to the ground. Two auxiliary shadows about a meter away would come at full speed and support the shadow at her feet, which was the strongest attack in terms of how hard it would be to break. Of the last two shadows, both of them would follow the same initial attack pattern of essentially moving across the ground in the hopes of not being spotted before the attack from the left would jump up once it reached melee range and instead of turning into a completely solid construction would turn into sticky goop that would attempt to attach itself to Yumi’s face and block her vision. The second attack coming in from the right would more have the consistency of clay or play-doh and ideally attach itself to the sticky back of the previous attack on the eyes and face and then harden as much as possible to require her quirk to get off of her and if things went well create some panic.
The binding attacks was something he had learned from sparring with Darren, and realizing along the way in the military camp that he almost always had a mobility disadvantage when it came to fighting against really almost anyone else. He needed to equalize that mobility as much as possible, and the bindings did the trick even if it was temporary. The blinding trick was a modified version of what he had learned in sparring with Miku against some of Japan’s finest soldiers. He caught a practice knife to the throat and panicked, which completely nullified his quirk in the bout due to his instinctive response to clutch his throat and look down. Blinding someone would react a similar instinctive response to regain vision, he reasoned, and would do wonders in making Yumi waste her quirk.
As soon as the first attack was launched, the delinquent crouched down low and approached slowly while moving his next ‘wave’ of shadow matter forward in order to be as close range as possible to either reinforce the last attack in a few seconds or essentially repeat the same attack over again if his Class President just discharged the totality of her quirk instinctively to destroy everything at once. He reasoned that he could keep up his attacks if he timed this correctly for much longer than Yumi could keep up hers because he was using much less energy than her if he forced her to do a full discharge.
It was amazing how creative someone got when they realized that if they were hit even once they would basically instantly lose and maybe even puncture a lung from muscle spasms. Random discharges were expected, so Alex did his best to stay as low to the ground as possible and also move randomly to the side to preempt any blind discharges in his general direction.

Yumi narrowed her eyes, but at the word go it was clear Alex had been preparing for her, since she was sure even pro heroes didn’t have the capacity to move every shadow in a room without some time to prepare. The sensation of her gently swaying feet being locked in place, and that lock being reincforced, it easily got her attention and the red head’s eyes shot down to her feet before flying back up to meet Alex. So he was taking this that seriously? Not any old spar to him. She felt she shouldn’t have expected differently, but this wasn’t the cocky, cheekiness that she’d had from Jaz when they battled. The way Alex was locking her down…sure maybe it was the way he fought, but it lacked any sense of comradery or friendliness to it. This was a tactic to win above all else regardless of the fact it was just her he was sparring with, and while competitiveness was not something Yumi could easily muster, she certainly felt like Alex had earned a bit of her harsher side today on a few levels. She grit her teeth, the sight of the two remaining tendrils of darkness catching her eye, and she curled her toes in her boots, forcing hr electrical energy donwards.
She didn’t know how the darkness would react. If it would fade, vaporize, burn or crack from how hard it felt, but with the second function of her hover boots a burst of light came from her soles, weakening the shadows holding her while also pushing out a harsh force towards the ground that sent her flying up and over the tendril coming for her face. She didn’t have much control over the angle at which she’d launched, leaving her hovering somewhat awkwardly in the air, but with the recent power boost her quirk had received, she was at least glad it had managed to work in the first place.
Okay…just gotta think on my feet…Jaz could brush off shots, lose a limb or two temporarily but it was impossible to bring her down. Alex looks tough but I doubt he’s on the same level…
She looked down to the shadows piling under her, still her biggest worry in every way and not something she should trifle with. She pushed the energy down once more, and it wasn’t as effective with no surface to boost off of, but she managed to give herself enough of a momentum shift to send her flying off to the side rather than falling into the mass of darkness again, throwing up both her palms towards the tendrils as they likely turned towards her, firing two blasts of electrical energy, her chest pulsing from hard breaths as she focused solely on making sure she didn’t have to face such an onslaught again. Alex probably had something up his sleeve, and was refining his plans as she recovered, but she herself was just focused on getting back to her feet, eyes flickering around trying to follow any shadows as they shifted, not quite on board with how this all worked yet, but wanting to understand her situation before she took herself any further into the fray. Afterall Alex was a unique enemy who could use the very floor against her, so she couldn’t let herself just rush into this assuming everything could be okay, especially when it could totally go in the other direction with a foe like this.
She focused her breathing, and did her best to focus on the darkness around her. If she could figure out how it worked, beating alex would be the easy part.

Shit. The boots had more power in them than he thought, and he didn’t get a solid enough hold on her initially. That wouldn’t be a problem if he wasn’t pushing close to his maximum range to begin with, but that upward motion really fucked with him and forced him to move forward and come up with a new game plan. He had no way of getting his shadows up in the air without giving Yumi more reaction time than he was comfortable with. Shadows originated on the ground, and that was a weakness that he rarely had to deal with. Light on the constructs didn’t do anything, but a flash of light on the originating shadow that the construct came from would destroy it just the same as a bolt of electricity from Yumi on a construct would. It was a mistake that many light users made initially, focusing their attacks on the construct when light gave them no advantage in destroying them… but he had made a mistake and given her too much reaction time with his initial binding so it didn’t matter. He should have waited a few seconds longer, but it was too late now. If he did a single big attack, Yumi could just blast it away with her quirk because she had already shown her reaction time was above average at worst. He needed to get her down on the ground, first of all, because while it was possible he won in a long range fight even with Yumi in the air through exhausting her the absolutely zero margin for error was a little bit too much for him to willingly take. He moved part of his defensive shadow matter along to a more offensive position below Yumi as he moved forward, eyes darting around to rip more matter to get closer and closer to his maximum strength as he moved so that roughly half of his current matter was placed offensively and half of it was placed defensively. Alex had also jogged forward a few meters while making sure that the offensive shadows were jumping up and around and generally looking spooky hoping to distract Yumi long enough for him to come up with a plan. She seemed too focused on the shadows beneath her, which was a good sign and gave him the opportunity to at least try and rectify his mistake from earlier. Her boots had some holes in them were light emitted from earlier, and that was how he assumed she was able to fly. If he could get his quirk inside the boots and sludge the hell out of the wiring or whatever was inside, it would force her to the ground no sweat. He was confident he could cushion the landing before she actually hit the ground if he managed to pull it off, it was more seeing if he could do it without thinking about whether he should. The general strategy was a feint, with four jets of shadow rising up essentially on each side of Yumi like jets of slime erupting from the ground. The one in front of her would first spike up as high as Alex could make it in order to provide a distraction, and then shoot down to try again to block Yumi’s vision by way of changing the texture of the construction into wet and rapidly solidifying clay. The one behind her would spike up but not go above Yumi, instead going directly for the holes in her boots while retaining the same slime-like texture and density in order to gum up the boots as much as possible before solidifying into what amounted to be gum. The left jet of shadow would have the texture of goo and aimed directly at Yumi’s midsection just as an attempt to distract her from the feeling of disgust one normally felt when covered in goo. The right jet of shadow went directly for Yumi’s right hand and would immediately solidify in a block if it ever reached it in an effort to fuck with her primary mode of attack and force her to use an area of effect charge of her quirk. Essentially, the delinquent set up at least the illusion of an attack from each cardinal direction: two actual attacks from behind and to her right that were masked by the much more obvious and flashy diversions from directly in front and to her left that if she paid attention to she was fucked or at least would have to discharge her quirk across the area and if she ignored would blind her and coat her with goo that would hopefully fuck with her aim as much or more than the attack from the right would. If she ended up falling, any of the other attacks that actually hit could be shifted very quickly in order to cushion the fall as much as possible so in the delinquent’s mind there was no real risk even if the boots attack did knock her out of the sky. The delinquent didn’t say a word during all of this, his mind going into overdrive to try and think of ways to win and all of his concentration and focus moving towards his quirk. His body language was no longer that of blind confidence, but instead the posture of one more than ready to jump to any side at a moment’s notice like he expected to be bombarded at any moment by a ranged attack. There was no cocky grin or exaggerated movements, only a thin line of determination for a mouth and the surgical movements of someone who was determined not to waste any energy. It must have seemed almost like a complete personality switch to Yumi, but this is the style that he had developed in order to use his quirk most effectively over the course of his time actively combat training it. If he got emotionally hijacked, he could no longer move his quirk with the same control and precision. If he could no longer control his quirk perfectly, his only real advantage was gone. Loud and brash gave way to cold and methodical, because the latter was the only way he could win. The fact of the matter was, he wasn’t skilled enough to fight and talk at the same time. Talking took concentration and attention, neither of which he could spare if he wanted his quirk to work perfectly when he needed it to. He was taking this dead seriously, because he respected Yumi and her ability to use her quirk enough to where he considered her a legitimate threat that could end him in one direct hit. Summary:
4 attacks initially appearing as jets of slimey liquid from each direction of Yumi.
The frontal attack is a jet of slime that will go above Yumi’s head and then go down in an attempt to blind her by transitioning into quickly solidifying but wet clay. This move is the secondary priority for telepathic control, and will attempt to follow any movement but will not actively dodge any attacks thrown against it.
The jet on the left is a full diversion and just turns into goo that is aimed at Yumi’s midsection. It does nothing but feel really gross and disgusting. This attack is not telepathically controlled past initial aim, and movement is sufficient to make this attack miss completely.
The jet on the right is aimed at Yumi’s right hand and gauntlet and will attempt to form a block of solid matter to block her ability to fire off her quirk from that hand and unbalance her. This attack is only telepathically controlled if the back attack is successful or appears to be, or if the frontal attack is destroyed. Otherwise, this is third priority and is not telepathically controlled past initial aim except to solidify if it is successful in making contact with Yumi even if that contact is not to her hand.
The jet from behind is smaller than the others in an attempt to trick Yumi, and goes right for the boots and attempts to go into each of the holes at the bottom of her boots and turn into a gum like substance in an effort to force her out of the air. This attack is directly telepathically controlled and will react the most to any movement and actively try to dodge attacks made against it.
If this succeeds, one of the previous attacks will move off of Yumi’s body to cushion her fall with shadow constructions basically like a bean bag that will absorb the worst of the fall. The priority for this is left jet -> right jet -> frontal jet -> behind jet. In other words, if the one from the left is dodged or countered, the one on the right is cancelled instead and so on and so forth.

Yumi…didn’t know where to start. Alex seemed capable of manipulating practically the earth beneath her feet, and not hovering all that far off the ground (a few inches tops) meant she wasn’t at much of an advantage either. Truth be told she might be better if she actually managed to get out of her costume and rely on the base form of her quirk, but for now she was stuck as she was, watching as the black pillars rose up around her and immediately cut off her escape options. Her eyes shifted around her, spotting the number. Right away she looked to those coming from her sides and thought of an idea. They probably needed at least some connection to the ground to stay stable, so throwing out both her arms to each side, her gauntlets sparked and shot at the very base of the black tendrils to her left and right before they could form into anything dangerous, all the while the pillar at her front was trying to drop down on her from above. With some escape options now however she stuck out her right leg and fired off a jet burst to send herself flying off, skidding to the side easily due to the lack of friction the boot she’d left pointing down provided.
“Not so easy to trap me Alex!”
Watching the goop drip and drop where she’d once been standing, she let out a breath, wondering how bad it might have been if she’d stayed in one place and let those tendrils get all over her. The smaller tendril made her ask some questions. Why have the smallest one covering her back? Her most likely method of escape…? Ah whatever, she had bigger fish to fry, and it was time to see how good fish fried by an electrical charge would taste!
…It’d probably taste like iron, she briefly thought.
Still her eyes turned to Alex. Keeping him at range wasn’t doing her any favors, so she had to see if she could take the fight to him, pointing one of her gauntlets towards the shadow manipulator and firing off a blast of her quirk to act as an opening. At this distance she could probably just barely hold him in range, and she darted off to meet him, skating towards him like a red-striped hedgehog and trying to get in close so she could unload a charge or two directly into him.

Precision shots, still. Weird. He figured she would have definitely have fired off that area of effect shock by now, and he had no idea why she didn’t. Yumi didn’t project as being this cool under pressure, but it seemed like he may have underestimated her.
His plan wasn’t actually foiled yet, just delayed. The frontal attack shot down but missed its target, and instead merged with the attack from behind and once the delinquent only had one telepathic construct to control it would be easy to ensure that the charge wasn’t successful without more power expenditure. The majority of his initial attack matter was still active, and it would be more than enough to both gum up her boots like initially planned and also grab a hold of her ankles and at the very least fuck up her momentum and force her to use her quirk essentially on herself and at best fling her backwards to maintain distance. She seemed to flat out ignore the threat behind her, so the attack would likely come as a surprise.
Still, though, it was clear that Yumi wasn’t going to panic and fire off the totality of her quirk like Alex had hoped. She seemed to realize that staying at range only helped the delinquent, and had rushed him after firing off a bolt of her quirk. The combined matter from the previous attacks would catch up to the girl and stop her charge no problem and most likely toss her backwards without the ability to use her boots… but that didn’t protect him from the lightning bolt that was screaming towards him. The shadows at his feet visibly started rising up the instant that bolt flew out of his classmate’s gauntlet, speaking to the delinquent’s excellent reaction time when it came to things like this.
He had enough matter to block the lightning bolt since he had held a good bit of matter in reserve. He had absolutely no doubt he could block one bolt, but depending on how much damage it did he would likely not be able to block a second one in time. If he visibly panicked at the first one, though, Yumi would immediately fire another one and he would be fucked. He needed to trick her into at least not firing off another one until they were at range again and he could rip the shadows in the area again. That would take several seconds, because he hadn’t thought he would have to rip them this early again. He was positive that the previous attack would buy him at least a few seconds.
Fuck.
He stood firm and pulled up all the matter at his feet into a thick shield that shattered like glass the instant the bolt of electricity hit it. ”Good luck with frontal attacks, I can do this all day!” he yelled out, voice brimming with confidence to the point where his trademark arrogance was starting to bleed through into his tone. If she fired off another one immediately, the match was over in an instant. The fact that she didn’t fire off two or three before his shadow behind her lunged forward and caught up with her though was evidence that she had no idea how strong the gap between their quirks really was. The only way he won this is to exploit that gap in knowledge until she tired out, and if he had to bluff to do so… well, it wasn’t like extreme cockiness didn’t come naturally to the American.
Yumi underrated herself in comparison to others, which was just as much of a weakness as overconfidence was. She was much more timid in her way of doing things than someone like Darren or how he expected Jaz would be in a fight. They would barrel forward until someone stopped them, and go full speed ahead on offense until the moment that they were forced to re-evaluate. His Class President, however, took far too much time to think and even seemed to second guess herself in ways that wasted time and created opportunities. If she had fired off her quirk four or five times in a row from the beginning of the match, Alex would have instantly lost.
He could block one. Maybe two, since it took half of his matter to completely block the impact of one much in the same way that bulletproof glass stopped a bullet. The glass was shattered and completely useless afterwards, but nobody behind it was harmed at least for that initial shot. He could even maybe dodge one, his reaction time was pretty good. Maybe her hand would slip and he would get lucky and the aim wouldn’t be correct for four, but the fifth one would get him instantly because with all of his shadows used on defense there would be no way for him to threaten her in the least. But she didn’t do that, and that fact in and of itself made it to where this fight was lasting far longer than it should have. He had a chance – a slim chance, given that he hadn’t managed to trick her into using her quirk in its totality yet, but a chance nonetheless that he would have never had if Yumi had just aggressively attacked to begin with.
If Yumi successfully had her boots disabled and was thrown back, the delinquent would use the time from when her momentum was stopped to search around to rip all of the shadow around him that he could muster in preparation for round two. He would fling his classmate as far away as possible, hoping to be far out of her range to force her to charge towards him again without the aid of the boots this time and give him enough time to come up with another method of attack to try. If that failed or the girl managed to fire off a charge of her quirk towards him again, he was fully prepared to try and physically dodge the shot as best he could to stall this out just a little bit longer.

Yumi was darting forward as fast as her could, her mind oblivious to the other sensations as she just wanted to get in there and fire off a shot he couldn’t block with his tendrils. He’d been…so weirdly harsh today, so cold, his words were friendly and he’d even apologized for before but something about him today was putting her on edge, and ya know what? He thought her quirk was so great? So powerful? So potent? Top of the class, ranking top in the school? Whatever the hell he thought, if she could prove him right with just a little bit of spite in her own system she was gonna do it. Her gauntlet’s sparked hard with blue flickers of light lingering around the edge of her metal hands, , her electrified face showing a borderline grimace as she grit her teeth and got ready to get in their and slam him with a full frontal assault.
“All day huh!? Well I’m giving you 5 minutes tops. You boys, always over-estimating your stamina!” Jaz and Darren seeping into her once again as she let out her competitive side, her eyes shifted from anger to something more akin to burning enjoyment. The kind you’d see in the eyes of a footballer as he charges down the field ready to score that final, game making point. She reared her hands back a little more, pumping them forward to fire off two shots just as she felt a sharp tugging sensation on her boots. Or so she thought. The sneak attack from behind had finally bore fruition, and what she’d thought was a tug was actually simply a lack of push as the jets in her boots suddenly began to faulter, her arms moving too high as her body fell forward, streams of burning electricity ionizing the air as they fired off towards the ceiling, dissipating entirely before they could even get close to scorching it however. She hit the ground with a hard thud as her eyes flicked over her shoulder, panting hard as she suffered the weight of her gear now that her jets weren’t compensating for it so much. Her gauntlets were still lighter than they should be, as where her boots, but it was enough of a shift that she entirely lost her balance and ended up faceplanting. Growling a little with an auto-tune like effect to her noise thanks to the sparking energy emenating from her skin, she turned one of her palms from the ground to aim towards Alex, planning to fire off a shot towards him even in her current state, only for a true tug to occur this time, yelping as she was hoisted off the ground by what was left of his dark tendrils and kicking as best she could with the unsupported weight of her boots.
Val was right. These things were terribly inneficient when they failed…
“AAARGH!” She tried to fire off another shot but it missed easily by a half meter as she was flung backwards, sent tumbling backwards over her own head , gritting her teeth as she definitely felt some pain flow through her relatively weak body, her eyes dazed for a moment as she slammed her hands down and forced her way to her feet. While Alex was likely using the distance he created between them to gather his defences, Yumi was using it to get rid of her new weakness. Reaching down to the sides of her boots, she turned the small latches on the outside of each ankle, unlocking the mechanisms that kept them in place and pulling her full body suit clad feat out of her boots, rushing forward on her feet now as she charged for Alex again.
She had a sharp eye this time, and while she couldn’t place it entirely she could tell something was up with his shadows. She had to put his cockiness to the test now more than ever as she had lost a lot of her potential agility and momentum, rushing straight for him with her arms pushing forward one after the other, throwing electrical bolts like they were punches, the bright light creating the allusion of shade as Alex’s eyes likely had to harshly adjust to every bright shot for the brief moment before the next fired off, and another, and another!
She maybe had to stop hanging out with Darren and Jaz, their competitive, fighty nature was really starting to rub off on her in a really bad way. She couldn’t even deny it. The moment the adrenaline wore off she would fully admit this was just not…’her’.

Thank God.
The toss backwards and boot disabling had worked, so she couldn’t move nearly as fast now and he had some time to regroup. The very first that he did was separate the shadows that he used to throw her so she wouldn’t be able to smash through all of them in one go again. He instead lined up small puddles of them in likely paths she would take forward, with most of it pooled at intervals in the straight line between them because it seemed like he was getting under her skin a bit. Her parting shot had missed handily, which was great because he was defenseless for that one. He also redistributed the shadows based on their source, with the safest ones that were nearest to the delinquent being sent to offensive positions and the riskiest ones that originated beside Yumi being relegated to defense.
Once the redistribution of his offensive shadow was complete, which was when Yumi was still getting up, the delinquent looked around for shadow to rip and cannibalize into his own to recoup his defensive shadow. Red eyes looked back to Yumi with her boots freshly off rushing towards him, but quickly had to look away from a shot that was out of range but designed to fuck with his ability to see more than anything. Annoying, but he would be able to work around it by siphoning roughly two thirds of his shadow out to offensive positions to fuck with her line of attack.
The first shot that she fired when she immediately got into range was dodged from movement, since that initial shot he knew would fizzle out for the most part past ten meters. He could do one by just backpedaling diagonally outside of her effective range. He could only do that once, however, because she was barreling forward at a speed that Alexander simply could not match going backwards. So phase two happened before she fired a second shot, and that phase was the offensive shadow coming from the ground from as many different points as possible in tendrils not strong enough to knock the girl out of the fight by themselves but were instead focused on attacking the hell out of her arms and ability to see, since those were the only means that she had of hurting the delinquent at the present.
There were eight tendrils in total that rose up from the ground, each independently source from the others so that one bolt would not destroy them. The smallest tendril was another blob attack that would go upwards and again try to go for the Class Representative’s eyes to block her ability to see. This attack was not particularly telepathically guided and could be dodged relatively easily, but it would repeatedly try the same maneuver over and over until it either hit or the originating shadow about two meters in front of where Yumi was and a little to the right ended up being destroyed. Two tendrils would follow the girl loosely and chop at her legs at the strength of a normal person doing a karate chop. He didn’t send his strongest ones down there because he didn’t want to accidentally cause any permanent damage, but ideally it would make the girl trip and leave her easy prey for the vision denial attack.
Four tendrils, one from each cardinal direction from Yumi would chop at her with the same strength – a normal person doing a karate chop with some force behind it, but not enough to break a decent wooden board because he was going for quantity of attacks over quality in order to fuck with her orientation as much as possible. These would chop at the joints within her arms continuously and were the ones that offered the most telepathic control, because any two shots in quick succession would end the fight instantly. They would slash down at her wrists, at her elbows, and at her shoulders in an attempt to disrupt as much as possible the shots that were coming out of them. The tendril was lowest to the ground and essentially turned into the wettest, thinnest slime that the delinquent could create. The idea behind that one was to cause a trip on as slippery a surface as it was possible for the American to create while Yumi was understandably distracted with every other attack that was coming towards her.
The way he arrayed his shadows was risky, but it was the only way that he could end up winning. The tendrils that chopped at the girl were the shadows that originated the farthest back and would be almost impossible to mess with unless specifically targeted. His defensive shadows, however, with the rearrangement that he did earlier could end up being accidentally messed with quite a lot. Each lightning bolt came with it a shock of light, and Alex had to determine which shadows were effected so he could rip the shadows and pull them towards him once more. The issue with that, though, was he couldn’t exactly maintain visual contact because of the bright flash so knew he lost more shadow than he gained back with every flash of that light. He wasn’t quite certain how much he had lost, but he knew he might not even be able to fully block one lightning bolt at this point so his redirection of his classmate’s arms needed to be nearly perfect. Once his defenses were completely shattered by one, it would take roughly five seconds for him to gather enough shadows back towards him to create a similarly effective shield. Thus, he could get hit multiple times… as long as those times were spaced enough apart that he could manage to defend himself in time.
He could also feel his body temperature lowering enough to where he was starting to notice, the prolonged use of his quirk at maximum potential starting to cause ill effects on his body. At this rate, it was very possible that Yumi would end up outlasting him due to her self-control and the fact that Alex needed to expend far more energy preventing her from attacking than she needed to actually attack. This was starting to look grim. If he survived long enough to reset the fight again, he would have to put everything into offense to finish this quickly.
Summary of attacks:
8 tendrils, each G ranked attacks. Spaced out so that one lightning bolt would only destroy one of them.
4 surrounding Yumi by cardinal direction and following her most closely, chopping at the joints in her arms from shoulder-height. Wrists, elbows, shoulders. Repeated smacks designed to prevent her from aiming.
2 at knee-height on Yumi’s left and right which chop at her legs with less precision than the above four but aiming at her knees in order to knock her down.
1 blob attack exactly the same as before that is meant to gum up her visor and blind her.
1 tendril turned the ground in front of Yumi slippery, hoping that in her distracted state she would trip and fall and allow Alex to back up unopposed and recreate distance in order to reset the fight again.
Alex can mostly block 1 lightning bolt per five second window that actually hits him, but not fully like before due to each lightning bolt eating into the original shadow of his defense at a rate quicker than he can keep up due to being unable to see which shadows specifically get destroyed. 1 direct hit or three hits attacking primarily defensive shadow total end the fight instantly, and unless it is specifically stated that her aim was off in the post any dodge attempts will fail.

Yumi was gritting her teeth harder as her shots continued to miss, her adrenaline pumping state leading her to keep making stupid mistakes and unable to actually get a solid hit off on Alex. Worse yet he was clearly on his A game again, assuming he’d ever lost it, as 8 lengths of shadow surrounded her. She thought about firing on them, but she was running on a third of her battery power, and her ability to speed out of the situation or jump out of it was minimized by the fact she’d left her boots behind. However, even as the black lengths of shadow surrounded her, she just continued to charge, a final idea coming to mind based on a recent addition to her suit that’d maybe allow her to put Alex in the losing position. She just needed to get within 8 meters of him, closer if she really wanted to assure the win here…
As the 4 tendrils tried to attack her limbs, the low speed of the strikes Alex had been focusing on to try and not permanently harm her gave her plenty of room to shift around and dodge the attacks. It wasn’t perfect, and she stumbled as she cut her momentum to one side to dart around a striking tendril, but it was better than it had once been and it was clear to anyone who’d seen her in action before that she was much better on her own two feet than she had once been when joining the school. Another tendril just barely cut past her arm, scraping the side of her suit but thankfully not tearing the fabric. She only had enough left for two shots of her final plan and that was assuming she could even pull it off to begin with, so she wanted to make sure she didn’t waste any charge that she needed through a tear in her suit.
With the tendrils that had aimed for her legs, she’d nearly been caught, but she kicked herself up as hard as she could. With the tendrils aiming for knee height they could still catch her feet, but her momentum aiding her in the act, she pulled her ankles up under her ass, her knees lifted high enough to pass over the tendrils. For a moment time slowed as Yumi watched the darkness slip under her, afraid she hadn’t jumped high enough, her heart pumping harder and harder in her chest as she watched it flow under her, her sense of her own position not strong enough in this hectic moment to convince herself they’d missed until they fully disappeared behind her. With her heels touching her backside it was difficult to put her feet back under her before she hit the ground, but she managed to maintain most of her momentum even as she stumbled, pushing off the ground with her gauntlet clad hand, stabilizing herself before throwing her hands out to either side, her thumb knuckle pressing up against the inner buttons of her gauntlets that let them unlock from her palms, the hefty chunks of metal discarded, still sparking a little as they let out their stored energy harmlessly around them and tumbled along the padded floor without much of a scratch on them as the red head continued her charge, her full body suit meaning she could still hold her charge even without the gauntlets covering her hands.
The last two tendrils were a bitch though, the one aiming for her helmet had come in too fast for her to dip her head under, and she let out a frustrated growl / squeal as her hands moved to her mask. She slowed, but she was still running, albeit blinded by the shadow gunk. She wondered briefly what it was technically made on, or if she could choke on it if it got into her mouth, but she knew as harsh as Alex could seem to be today he wasn’t going to let that happen to her, and used it to some advantage as she continued to jog. She was oblivious to the last one and how it made the floor so slippy, not sure why her feet had slipped out from under her, but she tried to use it instead. She couldn’t judge her distance anymore, and she couldn’t let off her final attack while she was running, but she could while she was sliding. Pulling her legs back again as she fell she hit down on her knees, the slippy substance of the shadows briefly allowing her to knee slide along the ground. Hoping to god she’d be in range by the time she could set this off, Yumi rested a palm over her chest, the central node of the bright blue lines that travelled along her suit powering down and her suit becoming far looser, peeling away at the front and revealing the electro proof sports bra underneath. Her helmet soon followed, connected to the suits sensors and unleashing Yumi’s head. For a very brief moment her blue, electro coated skin was revealed in full glory, but realizing it had an escape route…
Well, the electricity escaped.
Her body tightening and clutching her fists close to her chest, Yumi squeezed her eyes shut, pushing herself more than she had in some classes and pushing her discharge to her new max range, the elecrtrical shock coursing out over 8 meters away from her and streaming across most of the battlefield, vaporizing a lot of the tendrils she’d tried to dodge and leave behind, and likely frying the one that was attatched to her face. She was oblivious as to wether or not Alex coulda blocked or dodged that, but she lurched forward once it was over, still on her knees and panting harshly. She remembered she’d had to discharge like this to beat Jaz too, and she disappointed herself. It was her trump card sure but it was a kamikaze that left her wide open right after, and she had to stop relying on it!
