The special military camp was becoming more and more like a carnival to the students of U.A., it seemed. Although there were obviously very, very serious matters that had resulted in the camp's establishment, and many - including Tetsuko - acknowledged its role in making a place for the Quirked in the military, there were also plenty of options for atypical merriment to be had within the camp! The operative word being 'atypical'. Tetsuko was sure that most people weren't as fascinated by all the gunnery on display as Elise was, having looked like a kid in a candy store the moment she'd set foot into the armory. Nor were the likely many other people that fascinated by all the other weapons of mass destruction on display, aside from those few technologically involved students who were into such things.
In a similar vein, Tetsuko Shindou doubted there were many other people outside of the hardworking students of U.A. who'd find such fun in the training and rescue grounds that had been established in the camp! Indeed, there was no shortage of students using these facilities to test and train their abilities in the presence of professionals, activities that were facilitated by a military force eager to see the future Heroes in action. Though Tetsuko herself was interested in this, and had already made arrangements to cooperate with some of the staff present in mutual teaching exercises, the Shindou girl had also become interested in doing some more light-hearted, but still rigorous physical activities to enjoy the military camp while it was in town.
And who better to enjoy such a thing with than her fellow sportsman and exercise fanatic, Kirk Bluster? While Elise was off watching another weapons demonstration, Tetsuko had decided to organize with her friend to meet up near some of the army obstacle courses, a number of which were open to the students like some kind of carnival ride. Only, unlike a carnival ride, they definitely weren't designed to be fun! Rigorous and demanding, these courses wouldn't be easy to navigate, and as far as Tetsuko was concerned, that was probably the most exciting part about them!
It meant that these courses could serve as a rematch between Tetsuko and Kirk, a friendly competition to try and blow off some steam. It had been far too long since Tetsuko had enjoyed the company of some of her other friends, given recent events that had certainly skewed her priorities towards Elise. But with her lover showing signs of gradual but serious recovery, Tetsuko finally felt confident and safe enough to leave her side for just a short while, and wouldn't pass up the chance to spend time with other friends when she had little else to do. As much as she loved Eli, some time with their own respective friends could hardly hurt. Their bond wasn't so weak that a brief absence would test it, after all.
Tetsuko would find herself waiting in the combat area, clad in a full tracksuit for the trials ahead. Things were bound to get muddy, after all, so it was best that she was wearing something she didn't mind getting dirty! The Shindou girl would await the arrival of her friend, having organized with him beforehand, and was ready to hit the course and show him once again what the iron will of Kashima really meant!

It had been quite a while since he had done something sporty with Tetsuko. Of course, she had made sure that he finished the sign up poster for the sports club, a thing that had pretty much filled his head for couple of weeks with how hard it was to put together, but other than that, she had been primarily doing other things. Things that Kirk had no idea about. It was annoying for sure, but Kirk didn`t like to be too nosy. Asking your fellow teammate where they have been, never usually ended up well. It just meant that he didn`t really have anyone super competent to play sports with... Honestly, if he had started the club sooner, he could have avoided this issue altogether. But with Kirks concentration capabilities, asking such a thing was almost an impossibility.
However, when he recieved a message from her, informing that she wanted to do something with him, saying he was excited would have been a large understatement. Finally! He couldn`t wait! Maybe they could try baseball this time! Turn the tables on her, and what not! with her quicker motions, she would most definitely be able to throw a quick pitch! Or maybe they could play something like basketball and even the playing field from the start! No playing favourites whatsoever! In the end however, It was up to Tetsuko to choose what they would be doing...
...and her choice actually proceeded to lower his excitement a little bit. Was she sure? Did she really wanna go there for this stuff? As uninterested as he was about going to Semper fis camp to do these things, well... He had not been with Tetsuko in a long time. Saying that he didn`t wanna go there would not be too friendly when she herself seemed so excited about it. So of course, he shrugged his shoulders and went ahead with the plan. Maybe it would be more fun with a friend around? Maybe there wasn`t some sort of general shouting at them... Bah, at this point he was just coming up with excuses to not go...
And as promised, Kirk was there on time, sporting his very very usual attire. Honestly, if he didn`t wear the schools student outfits occasionally, this was what he always wore: Tanktop, big shorts, that revealed his shins, and his sneakers. Honestly, he stood out from othervise pretty well geared students. But thats how he did these things! Lighter clothes usually meant less weight to carry around! He scanned the area with his eyes and a hand on his forehead, trying to see the familiar grey hair that he was used to... And as soon as he locked onto it, he raised both his arms in excitement! "TETSUKO! OVER HERE!" As much as he might have not liked the place itself, that didn`t mean he wasn`t excited to see a friend after a long while!
After a quick sprint to her, Kirk outright slapped his hand on her shoulder. "Man, I was getting worried! Almost started thinking you broke a leg or something!" He said as if that was the only possible reason she wouldn`t do sports. All of this was accompanied by an almost trademark loud voice and proud smile. "So... what did you have in mind for us?!" He gave a couple of stretches for his legs from side to side while looking around with a bit more serious face. He was semi hoping that she had not gotten any sort of "Guide" for them and they could do this in relative peace...

Tetsuko didn't have to wait long for the American lad, who she'd suspected would arrive right on time. A guy like that wasn't gonna slack when it came to exercise, especially of a competitive nature. Although the swordswoman had been on the lookout for a giant teenage boy, her first indication of Kirk's presence was audible before it was visible. Americans really were on the loud side, weren't they? Hearing him shout out so carelessly, Tetsuko was already smirking with satisfaction. In spite of all the shit she'd been through, that guy hadn't changed much at all, had he? Made Tetsuko all the more glad to meet up with her teammate after so long.
"YO!" The Shindou girl would shout in response, raising her hand to her forehead in a greeting salute and wave. The big guy had a penchant for theatrics and being quite boisterous overall, something Tetsuko didn't usually find to be a positive thing in a lot of people. Such traits were usually related to some kind of obnoxious or inconsiderate behavior, but in Kirk's case, he seemed to just be an excitable and innocent sportsman, eager to have fun with his passions. Kirk sprinted over to Tetsuko, slapping her shoulder hard and almost knocking her off balance with his weight. Sometimes, the big guy didn't realize the size behind him!
"Heh, sorry to say, but no broken anything. I'm in prime condition, so you don't get a handicap." Tetsuko would say with a competitive smirk, enjoying this lighthearted banter that usually developed. It wasn't some kind of true rivalry, just a simple mutual competitiveness that made things a bit more thrilling. With his trademark smile, the boy inquired what they were going to be doing on that particular day. Placing her hands on her hips, Tetsuko would turnabout, pointing towards a nearby military obstacle course that was set up within the training grounds, in one of the open areas that included the usual sparring rings and CQC training fields.
"Well, I was thinking we take on some of the obstacle courses they've got here."
There were a few lined up, ranging in size and overall difficulty, but none of them looked easy! There was an array of different obstacles, from crawling sections blocked by cable, your typical wooden hurdles, upward and downward inclines, a rope traversing section, and tires for agility. Some of the courses even featured more vertical challenges, such as large wooden panels with footholds and handholds that had to be scaled before continuing through the course. There were plenty of other different challenges as well, designed to test soldiers' ability to maintain their pace and stamina through any number of harsh environmental conditions.
"They're open to all the people coming in, so we don't have to worry about it getting crowded or a drill sergeant yelling at us." Tetsuko explained, stretching her own neck as she looked back over to Kirk. "So, that also means it works pretty well for a competition. We head through the courses, and see who comes out first." The Shindou girl was already looking excited, and was hoping her friend was feeling the same way. Military or not, they were just obstacle courses, a perfect way for them to test unique styles of movement while also having a bit of fun while doing so.
"So, what do you say? You want to try it?"

Kirk couldn`t help but chuckle at Tetsukos little joke about giving him a handicap. "Pffft, that`s great to hear, you know!? Keeps things fair and all that!" It would have been absolutely horrible if something had actually happened to her. However, Kirk knew that worrying about her not being able to handle some silly foot injury would have been silly. The girl was way tougher than most girls he knew. Heck, last proper match they had had, he had personally kicked a ball right into her stomach, and she was mostly fine afterwards... aside from pained looking rolling about. Honestly, some other person would have most likely called it quits with him right after something like that, but since they were both hero students, bruises were supposedly an everyday thing!
Now this girl just proudly turned around and pointed towards their supposed place of training for the day... There was actually quite a lot of different things! Sparring rings, one which he had already trained in with Rowan, Sprint tracks... Honestly by first glance it was hard for Kirk to actually understand which of those things she meant, but then she outright stated it and he couldn`t have been more proud. "An obstacle course... Well half of that`s already in the bag for me!" Running was his forte, and in this situation, he might actually have a better chance to win than she did! He immediately bounced back up and jogged in place, almost to show off!
Now that he knew where they were going, he pressed his hand over his eyes to look towards the courses. And man, did they look like a treat! They almost reminded him of the training fields in "copper academy", with one even having the usual giant "log wall" to climb over. He could even see some people outright skipping around the thing. Seeing it all was actually starting to start the classic motor inside Kirk, the wish to go and try a new sport out! It was definitely something he didn`t have a chance to try every single day. Yet, there was still that minor worry, keeping him from just outright dashing forward. He couldn`t help but remember that one stick in the mud from the movies, who was always shouting at them through a megaphone... something that even Kirk would find obnoxiously loud...
But Tetsukos words hit exactly that worry right where it hurts, as it immediately evaporated from his mind like a fart in Sahara. He turned around to look at her, as she explained her plan, and honestly, Kirk was starting to be at the point where it was really hard to stay still. He had squatted a tiny bit, with his hands going into fists. Excitement was pretty much shining from the guy, as a smirk grew on his face.
And then she asked a question that even Kirk could classify as stupid. "Oh, I don`t wanna try em...!" His hand reached over her shoulder, grabbing it tightly like grabbing her into a headlock, as he lifted his other hand in the air with it in a fist. "I WANNA GO THROUGH EM!" Honestly, without any sort of judge around, this would have been the perfect challenge even without Tetsuko around. However, the saying went "the more the merrier", and gave it even more of a challenge to push himself forward. It would be a hell of a workout, that is for sure!
It was honestly like a chain had been popped from his chain. With all those previous doubts gone, he was pretty much rampant. "What are we waiting for then, LETS GO!" Luckily letting go off his hold, he took off in a sprint, occasionally stopping only to check signs for where the first one of these would be...

"Heh, don't think you'll still be calling it fair once I beat ya." Tetsuko would tease at mention of her handicap, half-smiling at Kirk's evident concern. He was definitely a kind and earnest person, something Tetsuko respected immensely and made his friendship that much more treasured. Although the Shindou girl usually found herself more easily befriending boys rather than girls, the former could be much rougher and less empathetic. Yet, this did not seem to be the case with the honorable and noble sportsman Kirk Bluster!
As she pointed out her plans for their competition, Tetsuko was relieved to find Kirk in immediate approval, quite eagerly stating his self-determined advantage in this situation! His demonstration prompted a confident smirk from Tetsuko, who showed off her own bravado. "Hey now, don't be so sure, my footwork isn't too bad either!" Tetsuko proudly proclaimed. Indeed, her own practice in kenjutsu had definitely benefited the young girl's speed on her feet, but it would remain to be seen whether this could hold up against the jogging addict that Kirk was!
Tetsuko would continue to describe the course and activities to Kirk, hoping to keep him interested. Fortunately for her, Kirk was quite keen on the idea, particularly once the possibility of a drill sergeant was quashed. Tetsuko, personally, was a bit more used to loud and stern orders, but the kind of negative reinforcement utilized by drill sergeants was a bit much even for her. Cultivating mutual respect between teacher and student seemed to be much more beneficial in her eyes, but that was a topic for another time.
Right now, Tetsuko had something a bit more difficult to deal with, that being a very excited Kirk! The excitement was beaming right off of him, and Tetsuko couldn't help but grin in self-satisfaction at how much he was taking to this idea of hers. He grabbed her in a gesture of comradely and proclaimed his intentions, prompting a chuckle from the Japanese girl. "That's the spirit alright. Banzai!" She showed her own national pride, more eager than ever to get this show on the road! Luckily, Kirk was too, sprinting off toward the obstacle course right away!
"Hey!" Tetsuko called out in protest, quickly darting after him. He hadn't even awaited the starter gun! Fortunately, he didn't get too much of a head start, and she'd soon be running alongside Kirk as they approached the first set of obstacles: Wooden hurdles of different heights along the first stretch!
"Try not to fall!" Tetsuko would taunt as she took on the first challenge, deftly jumping over the first obstacle in a typical military fashion, raising one leg and then the other to vault over this rudimentary impediment. She'd glance aside to Kirk, seeing how the bulkier lad might handle this first stretch of the obstacle course. She doubted he would have much trouble with it, but admittedly, some part of Tetsuko did worry he might have been literal when the American lad talked about going 'through' the obstacles on the course!

Tetsuko was already slinging some taunts towards him, especially since he had caught a head start! "In our class, first reaction is pretty important!" Last time they had been slow, The whole group had gotten electrified by yumi, and she had gotten away! So naturally, he had to be awake from the start from now on! However, as he reached the first literal hurdles, his attention shifted from starting things early to the actual sport itself! It was time to get into the zone!
However, as expected from what Tetsuko had said, she had no problem catching up to him while running at full speed. The quick glance almost made him trip over the first hurdle in front of him, as he had to exclaim: "Wow!" It was one of those things that she liked about Tetsuko compared to most other girls. While they tried to concentrate on either looking pretty or on improving their quirks, Tetsuko was tough and almost masculine when it came to fitness! She could keep up with him amazingly! Honestly, Kirk would say she was outright way quicker than he was, just with those legs of hers.
However, her immediate taunt after almost falling over just pushed himself even further! This time he wouldn`t lose! "Pffft, Like I would! Watch THESE leaps!" Instead of jumping just straight forward, he outright started squatting and leaping high over them, while seemingly flexing as he did so! It was definitely not a proper way to jump over fences, but it was Kirks kind of showy, as it also worked on his knee muscles! However, this came at the cost of speed, and as he made it to the final hurdle, he got so close to it he outright kicked out of the way with his knee in front, as the thing loudly fell over! "Wh-whoops!" Thank god there was nobody whining about how they should do this. He could imagine someone snapping on his fingers with a ruler for that one... He just landed back down with his right foot in front, and continued running like nothing had happened, trying to ignore it.
He clenched his teeth with wide eyes in awkwardness, as there was a short straight stretch, with the next obstacle seemingly on the horizon. "Ever watched Copper university?! Thats exactly like from it!" A decently sized pile of logs was standing all sorts of formidable in their way. The simple answer was of course to climb it. "Here we go...!" Once again, he squatted, as he sprung upwards, grabbing into notch on the wall, made for a hand like his. "Easy peasy!" However, as he started looking for another notch, he had a real hard time finding one, as his pace naturally slowed down significantly, with his hand trying to clasp for the holes in the logs to pull himself up through strength alone. "...I think?"
In hindsight, it was a relative simple obstacle. Somebody with a correct quirk could maybe even try just jumping over it... However, for folks like that who tried cheating, it seemed like there was a big pool of water waiting on the other side of it, just to surprise anyone who tried to just cheat their way through or rushing.

”In your class, huh?” Yet again Kirk cited his own class was being one of the justifications behind his behaviour, or rather another example of it. Tetsuko had heard about how crazy and energetic 1-C could be, and although it certainly wasn’t her kind of scene, the Shindou girl could definitely see Kirk Bluster fitting in among that infamous group of misfits. Tetsuko, on the other hand, would stick with her much more controlled class. The same class that had helped her inch closer to calmer, more considerate, and cleverer approach to whatever obstacles she faced…
Though, with some, consideration was not quite as necessary. With the hurdles, it was simply a matter of utilizing her natural speed without losing too much of her momentum! Of course, she was still barely even an amateur, and was losing a lot of speed with each jump, as opposed to a professional hurdler who wouldn’t slow down at all. But, it was enough to impress her competition, who seemed impressed by her speed. Indeed, for what Tetsuko was lacking in size and muscle mass, she made up for with quickness, a trait that was absolutely vital to any martial artist, swordsmen in particular.
Kirk had his own approach to the course, following Tetsuko’s taunts. Indeed, although the swordswoman had a tendency to tackle things in a simple, head-on manner, this was doubly so for Kirk, who began simply squatting and leaping over the hurdles! Slowing down as she watched this impressive display of lower body strength, Tetsuko wouldn’t find her own run being perfect either, almost stumbling to the ground on the last hurdle as she struggled to catch her own speed on the landing! Kirk, meanwhile, ended up actually going ‘through’ the last hurdle with one of his leaps. ”Well, you still got past it…” Tetsuko would say with a shrug, figuring it may as well still count for their purposes. A drill sergeant’s opinion be damned in this case.
Going across a short stretch, the pair would approach the second of the simpler obstacles, which Kirk quickly compared to a film series Tetsuko had only ever heard of. ”Sorry, don’t get the reference, I’m more into samurai flicks myself.” Tetsuko would reply. Indeed, her preference lay in the ‘Japanese westerns’ of samurai, but film preferences weren’t too relevant right now. What was relevant was the trials ahead, however, was the log wall they’d have to scale. ”Alright, let’s go vertical…” Right beside Kirk, Tetsuko would begin scaling the wall, finding things a bit more difficult with her own limited upper body strength, but compensating with her agility. As she climbed, something did occur to Tetsuko, that would’ve made this obstacle easier!
”Oh yeah, I should probably have asked, Quirks allowed or no? Your call.” If they were allowed, It would undoubtedly make their next few obstacles that bit easier or more interesting, but Tetsuko didn’t know how suited her competitor’s quirk was to the course, and presumed he’d rather they be tested on physical strength alone anyway, so she left the decision up to him!
Nonetheless, Tetsuko would slowly and steadily scale the wall, her smaller frame and comparatively lower level of muscle mass meaning she’d likely lag behind Kirk before finally vaulting over to the other side of the log wall, noticing the huge pool of water right below! With the same consideration, Tetsuko would lower herself down the wall, already starting to build up a sweat as she set her eyes on the next obstacle: This time, a stretch of rope to climb and shimmy across a muddy ground below, which was definitely going to be unpleasant.
”Ha… You getting tired yet? Cause I’m just getting warmed up.” Tetsuko would taunt Kirk in a light manner, feeling her heart pumping from the physical exertion and the exercise and competition, both of which they were certainly enjoying! The same gruelling obstacle course that so many soldiers trudged through everyday was nothing but a source of fun and banter for these highschool students.

Man, Tetsuko had never watched copper university? That was the main semi-adult movie he was allowed to watch when he was a kid! Although, he had never watched samurai movies himself. As they both were semi-slow on the wall climb, it gave Kirk the chance to give his opinion. "Well, lets just say that most of the folks in that one ended up just walking around the wall! So we are already doing better than them!" He actually chuckled a bit, before grunting in a powerful fashion, as he finally reached a higher spot on the wall to use to pull himself upwards. "What about those... Samurai flicks of yours? They funny?" He hadn`t exactly seen any of them. It was still very hard to realize the cultural differences between the duo...
But then Tetsuko sent a question towards him, that had him actually freeze for a moment. "Hmmm..." His head moved about a bit awkwardly. Knowing his own quirk, it wouldn`t help him in the slightest here... On the other hand, he had not exactly seen Tetsukos quirk yet. There was a big amount of curiousity in his head to know what it was. He clenched his face into a tiny rut, as he threw his other arm up and proceeded to lift it up. "Why not!? I like challenge!" After all, he was already in his element taking that this was pretty much made to be stamina and strength based. "Might be less of a workout for you that way though! But more for me!" It was a sentence that somebody would have thought to be rude, but for him, it was almost a fact. Some quirks just didn`t really include bodily movement. However, he had a high assumption that Tetsuko had something sporty ready.
Afterall, she was just that kind of gal! With those muscles, it was hard to imagine her having some sort of quirk that would make her skip things like this outright! And besides, she liked sports as much as he did. That thought just made him smile!
However, it seemed like she was already making it over the thing much faster than he was. Kirk started swinging his arms upwards a bit quicker to reach the top a bit faster to keep up... "Its... surprisingly enough harder to get upwards when there is nothing to jump from!" Even Kirk was a bit impressed at how hard it was as he puffed outwards. The trip down atleast was a bit easier, as he hopped downwards at a swift pace. Tetsuko once again gave a bit of a taunt about warming up... And Kirk proceeded to smirk. He looked down, and just voluntarily dropped into the pool with a big ol splash (from a safe height of course). "Warmed up?! Then we are cooling down a bit!" If there was water, You may as well take advantage of it! He quickly stood up and shook himself dry... well, as dry as he could, before he felt the need to run again, with his newly gained lead! "See ya in the next one!"
His big wet footprint printing footwear lead him over to what would pretty much be called "Rope across the abyss". Except instead of a deadly pit, it was mud. "Pffft, of course the water comes before the mud..." He grabbed the rope with just his arms as he proceeded to once again sling his arms from the back to the front over and over. Steady pace finally! The wall completely ruined it. "Hop... Hop... Hop..." He said outloud.

With all the gusto of usual, Kirk explained his sudden reference to the movie Tetsuko hadn’t seen, prompting a scoff and chuckle from the Shindou girl. ”Well, that’s cool I guess, but I’m not about to gauge our progress against a movie! Maybe they were just lazy!” Tetsuko declared jokingly, before having Kirk query her about the samurai movies she so adored, and whether they possessed comedic elements. ”Eh, I wouldn’t say so, they’re more like… Westerns, I guess.” She explained, finding the comparison apt. The two genres were often compared, inspiring and weaving into one another, so it was a fairly good way to try and bridge this cultural gap they were experiencing!
Once Tetsuko asked if Quirks were on the table, Kirk was noticeably considerate about his answer. A far cry from his typical energetic outbursts that came with speed and moxie. Growing concerned that she’d overstepped a boundary or entered an awkward topic for the American boy, Tetsuko would find her fears brushed away as Kirk heartily accepted the offer. ”Hah, that’s a good spirit!” She said proudly, before Kirk claimed it would impede her workout intentions, to which the swordswoman firmly shook her head. ”Quirks are a part of the body too, training them is no different to working out!” Was what the swordswoman claimed, and did not delay in showing off the ability she’d been given permission to use.
For the rest of the climb, a small pair of blades sprouted from her palm, curved backwards towards her wrist to give her a special pair of climbing claws on each hand! An old ‘ninja’ tool, some might see it as, though there was no actual historical references to their usage. Nonetheless, they were effective for Tetsuko’s purposes, letting her get a better grip as she scaled the wall more easily. Her pace already exceeding Kirk’s the Shindou girl would be on the descent before the American lad, though was a bit more careful of the water below. Kirk, on the other hand, willingly leaped into it, his great form splashing some water towards Tetsuko. ”Hey, cooling down is one thing, but getting your clothes soaked is just gonna slow you down more!” She taunted as the boy got a lead on her, a grin forming on her expression. Kirk’s headstrong approach meant that he could barrel through many of these obstacles without worry, perhaps his greatest strength in this ‘race’ of theirs!
”Don’t get too attached to the lead!” Tetsuko declared as Kirk took on the next challenge, the young swordswoman following behind with considerable less damp clothing. His heavy wet footprints would be followed by the Shindou girl towards the next obstacle, a rope across this pit of mud. Likely a stand in for some other obstacle, but still, it wasn’t exactly going to be pleasant if either of them fell in, considering the stench the mud was emitting upwards!
Kirk continued to rely on his upper body strength for the climb, going across the rope with his arms like they were monkey bars. Brute force as usual, it seemed. ”Geeze, your technique’s all wrong!” Tetsuko lamented as she grabbed the rope with her hands, shifting forward a bit before turning around so her back was facing the way she wanted to go. Then, she’d lift her legs around the top of the rope, and with all her limbs to support her weight, she’d begin shimmying across the rope, bringing her legs towards her hands then moving her hands along, and repeating this cycle ad nauseum. Kirk’s strong arms might be just as quick, but this was a much more stable and less tiring technique, and one that wasn’t going to shake her rope as much! ”If you fall in, you might wanna head back to the water!” Tetsuko taunted the American lad, watching with a hint of concern as his large frame addressed this obstacle. It would be an actual shame for her challenger to fall in here!

What Tetsuko said was atleast partially correct. Training your own quirk is "sort of" like a workout. And for Kirk it was right doubly so, since his quirk was literally just an extra pile of muscles on the muscles he already had, that he needed to separately train up. However, most quirk users he had seen had quirks that allowed them to pretty much skip the body workout part completely, and ended up looking way more shriveled as a result. And despite his trust in her, there was a tiny bit of curiosity about what Tetsukos quirk actually was. Did it keep her working out, or did it make the actual work part completely irrelevant?
Although, from his quick pace, and limited visibility due to staying in constant movement, Kirk didn`t exactly see the girl doing anything out of the ordinary! Maybe her quirk was only a really minor help in the situation too!? Whatever it was, the girl was already trying to "Splash" some facts on him about him skipping forward with pure muscly excitement! "Pffft, at the speed we are going, they will dry right back up! You`ll see!" He didn`t atleast FEEL any heavier yet! Only thing he felt was the breeze of him running forward hitting against his massive body, making it shiver from the cold in answer! "B-besides, its just refreshing! just like I said!" The amount of regret about his actions was not high, but it was hearable.
The taunting from Tetsuko continued, as she reached the rope herself. Ironically, as soon as she called his technique on moving forward wrong, Kirk had to stop in the middle of the rope and take a breather... man, swinging your arms forward took way more energy than he had thought. "Man... you never seen monkeybars before?!" This rope was not THAT different from those. The only difference was the different grips instead of needing to grip the same rope over and over again. He turned his head to look towards Tetsuko, only to see her own technique to traversing this challenge... and it honestly had him crack a smile and a pffft. "And what kind of worm shimmying is that!?" She literally looked like a short caterpillar taking small steps occasionally forward and pulling its behind with it. He didn`t know whether it was adorable or ridiculous. Albeit watching her round face watch where she was going also brought an adorable hamster with it cheeks puffed up. He blushed a bit...
However, what he had to admit was that it was atleast quick! She was immediately almost upon him just from doing it during him catching his breath! Kirk had to swiftly get back in gear, with his arm once again landing forward on the rope... albeit his pace was clearly more sluggish. The extra weight of the water and the previous quick pulls were clearly effecting his results now. However, he didn`t want to admit, Tetsuko was right, as he made it to the other side with extreme effort... only to need to lift his legs pretty dang high to reach the platform! that or...
Well, he just decided to leap on it from the rope with his arms on the boards, and pulling himself up on top of it. Although he had to commence the relaxing ritual of his arms, as he for a moment he just proceeded to shake his exhausted arms awake, and proceeded to clap his face. "Okay!" This would propably cost him his lead, but he would be back in the race in no time!

Kirk wasn’t to be deterred by anything, it seemed, paying no mind to his soaked clothing and only declaring that he would just have to run fast enough to dry it out. ”Heh, you’ll regret the ground your gonna lose til then!” Tetsuko proclaimed playfully, enjoying their little banter. It wasn’t the same kind of cocky showboating that other students had engaged in, it was a much more lighthearted and kinder toned teasing. Its purpose not to try and make victory any sweeter, but to stoke a healthy competitive spirit that pushed them both to do their best.
There was a hint of regret in the sportsman’s voice, evidently feeling the cold of his little dip, though he claimed it refreshing. ”Yeah, really looks like you’re cooling off over there!” Tetsuko teased again, briefly considering lending him something to warm up a bit. Unfortunately, she didn’t exactly have anything on hand. Besides, Kirk could tough it out himself, and would probably just be embarrassed if she stopped to help him out with something as trivial as a slight chill!
Tetsuko guessed that normally you weren’t supposed to jump into the water so readily, but with no overbearing drill sergeant to tell them how to handle things, they were free to tackle the course as they wished. A liberty that Kirk freely exercised with his own technique of handling the rope. While the swordswoman didn’t doubt that his upper body strength could carry him across the obstacle, such an inefficient and demanding technique was sure to wear him out more quickly than he hoped. ”This is a bit different from monkeybars…” She chuckled, before hearing her own technique described so embarrassingly. ”Hey! It’s effective!” Tetsuko retorted simply, continuing on with greater vigor and a desire to show that her technique was superior! Surely enough, she’d catch up and surpass the other lad, tiring herself out a bit as she did so, but not nearly as much as he. It was a shame, in a way, with all the strength Kirk had, he could be even more of a powerhouse if he only knew how to use to effectively! Maybe Tetsuko could teach him a thing or two someday…
That would be for a later date. For now, she focused on winning against her competitor, and maintaining the lead she’d gained. Coming up to the end of the rope, Tetsuko would pull herself close to it as she slid onto the platform, losing a few seconds as she had to get to her feet from an awkward position, allowing Kirk to get a bit closer to her position! She wouldn’t risk him getting any more ground on her, however, as the Shindou girl quickly ran forth for the next obstacle. She was starting to pant a bit, her limbs aching from all the strenuous activity, and her heart pumping with the thrill of physical exercise!
The last pair of obstacles was simple, and set up for an interesting finish. First, was a set of vertical wooden walls that they’d have to scale over, much smaller than the last wall but greater in quantity. Following that, an upward sloping incline that would be tiresome to traverse, leading to another chasm at the top! This time, however, instead of climbing ropes across, it seemed they would have to swing across them, as a pair of ropes dangled in between the top of the first incline and second downward incline to the end of the course on the other side.
”Ready for the last stretch?” Tetsuko would call out to Kirk as she took on the next set of obstacles with no sign of giving up, even if her fatigue was causing her to slow down. Iron sprouted from her palms, simple climbing claws that she used as she jumped at the first wooden wall to scale it without having to rely too much on her inferior upper body strength.

With the last stretch looming ahead of them, the amount of taunts got smaller and smaller. The last one Tetsuko launched in Kirks direction was more of a challenge, As if Kirk could ignore something like that, when she ran past him. "HECK YEAH, I`m ready!" He bounce back up like a spring loaded bullet, and shook his palms against the air for one final cooling, before charging off to follow the gray haired lass as fast as he could! "Huff...Huff, You ain`t getting the better of me that easily!" Man, maybe using his arms so hard wasn`t such a good idea after all... he could almost feel the stretch from his elbow to the palm of his hand just from the way his arms swung to the rhythm of his runny steps. But the competition wasn`t over so, Full power to the end! Then he could lay down and rest a bit!
However, when he saw the obstacles, at first he couldn`t help but groan audibly. "Not walls again!" Last time he had tried them out, he had used his hands. You could sorta guess he was proud of them. Not as much as his legs, but still, using them to swing anything usually meant that he would get a good result. However, now they were exhausted when he needed them for climbing! However, the closer he got to it, the more clear it was, that the wall was shorter... But still daunting enough to make it a force to be reckoned with! And heck, what was following after them, was gonna be a straight stretch, but like up a hill...
Man... he felt a great need to just become lighter... somehow... Tetsuko was already climbing using her quirk... Had he emptied his backpack? He instinctively opened it... he could feel the small water bottle in it bouncing around... but there was no time to take and throw it out. However, the air entering his pouch was atleast refreshing... However, as he reached the wall, Kirk in his thoughts didnt bother flattening his back back down, instead just sealing it, leaving it like huge bubble on his back barely covered by a shirt! He proceeded to stomp his feet against the ground in front of the wall, squatting down with his muscles tightening, as he sprung upwards... And somehow, he felt immensely lighter, as he jumped way higher than usual!
"Guess my body is really warming up!!!" He shouted, as he made it two thirds up the pillar with just the initial leap alone! even the strain on his arms felt a bit more relaxing! With his speed, he made it easily over the first pillar, bouncing down the other. "Whew!" he was surprisingly enough keeping up with Tetsuko WELL, despite his tired arms! It was like a second wind! Although something kept bouncing against his back, frustratingly so... Ah well, can`t be too bad!
Second pillar, he proceeded to do the same thing, but this time he couldn`t help but gasp for air! "Ugh... Fricking..." Even with the surprisingly light feeling due to his not yet acknowledge helpful airpack, he could feel the exhaustion hit almost every single spot on his legs... However, when he reached over the second one, he couldn`t help but jump off again. So much adrenaline was running through his body in excitement as well as sweat... His arms were getting a rest too which was nice...
But when he got down the second one and reached the third one, he decided to not jump... he needed to save his leg strength for the darn endurance run after it. "Are you feeling it TETSU!? THE FLOW!?" He had to shout towards Tetsuko, as he continued his climbing up, lighter than ever! Man, he couldn`t say anything but that he felt GREAT!

Not one to be deterred by the possibility of losing, Kirk charged on with Tetsuko's challenge, clearly eager to do his best as much as she was. The bulky lad was like a cannonball down the last stretch, rather than a puny little bullet! As he cooled himself off, he'd taunt Tetsuko, his own exhaustion becoming evident. At this point, they were both running on fumes, and neither would've had it any other way. "Show me what you got, Bluster!" Tetsuko retorted to the American as she too pressed forward, already yearning for the finish of this obstacle course so she could catch her breath. She wasn't going to stop until then, however, as doing so was paramount to giving up, and Tetsuko Shindou did not give up!
Walls were to be their second to last obstacle, and they were indeed a troublesome one. Fortunately, Tetsuko's climbing claws let her get up them without too much trouble. However, she still needed to use the effort of pulling her own body up the wall, something that was getting taxing, and threatened her lead... Though, surely Kirk would be feeling the same struggle, so it was hardly a problem, right? Tetsuko continued up the first wall, managing to almost to the top fore Kirk had started, and wondering how he might tackle the obstacle as she continued pulling herself upward. Following shortly after her would be Kirk himself, the answer plainly on his back.
Passing Tetsuko in a single leap, the boy floated up like a hot air balloon, his back seemingly having inflated with hot air, making him incredibly light! Or, so the Shindou girl presumed, not really knowing all the science behind it. Kirk didn't seem to notice either, even though he was presumably responsible for the activation of his own Quirk. Quite a fascinating ability, to say the least, one that Tetsuko fully intended on asking him about once their 'race' was over. "I think it's doing more than warming up!" Tetsuko retorted as she picked up the pace, managing to pull herself up and over the first wall just after Kirk. He was moving quicker than she, and with less strain too, allowing him to overtake her with ease come the second wall.
Tetsuko was pushing herself even more to try and regain her lead, iron wires sprouting from her collar to pull her up the second wall, putting her over the obstacle just behind Kirk, leaving her lead recoverable but still a distance away from her. She was starting to feel the adrenaline course as the finale approached, and Kirk was feeling it too. "I can feel it alright, and it's telling me I'm gonna win this!" She challenged proudly, before climbing the final wall with just her spurs. She'd be catching up to Kirk soon enough, leaving them both over the wall and running towards the last of the obstacles, the incline up towards the rope swing that bridged the gap between the wooden ramps, the latter being nothing short of a descent to victory!

And show her what he got he did! Despite the girl being way ahead at first, Kirk had easily passed her by with his own little quirky tricks! Heck had actually gained up on her proper, and was in the lead again! However, he couldn`t rest on his laurels, with her almost right behind him. Her quirk was starting to be way more apparent, as these long wires stabbed the wood near him. "Oh!" The only thing he had seen from her quirk previously, was that she could stab herself into the wall to make the climb easier, but she could extend it this far too? She proceeded to pull herself up, almost like a lift. "Man... huff, You can do a lot!" Admittedly, on Kirks side it was alright. He had gotten a second wind himself after all! But man, If he could do something like that...
However, once he was climbing up the final wall, he could still feel the darn weird bumping against his back... His heart didn`t beat that loudly, did it? It was actually starting to get really dang annoying! However, as he got to the top, with an arms length compared to Tetsuko, he proceeded, to grip the wall from the other side, hopped gently downwards once, and then hopped a bit more forcefully away from it to get a running start, as his feet stamped against the ground. "AND GOOD LUCK... Hufff... TO THAT!" He could taste victory almost... afterall, she didnt have the advantage in climbing to victory anymore! It was all down to his jogging muscles, and that last challenge...
However, now he really felt like having a drink... soon... He glanced backwards, both to see if Tetsuko was still coming... Only for his view to be blocked by a big meaty balloon. "Wha?!" Had he been running with his pouch this big the whole time?! He slowed down a bit in realization... So... it wasn`t a second wind? Well anyways, at this point, he really needed to see how well he was doing in comparison to Tetsuko... He proceeded to open the pouch, and pressed it down, as the air gently blasted against the back of his head, like a cool breath of fresh air, just emphasized by all the sweat he had garnered at this point. Not exactly water... but very close to the same refreshing effect! And then continued to charge!
And there it stood, the final challenge for their run: A big rope swing between them and their goal! Kirks arms almost screamed from just the thought of it. It was a fitting challenge thats for sure... the main problem with it was, that they needed to jump to even reach the rope, and then swing themselves to the other side with the sheer force of it alone... if they didn`t have enough force with their jumps, there was a risk of being left hanging, or tumbling down into the mud. And at this point, the latter meant a clear loss. There was no coming back... So that meant giving their all!
And Kirk knew what that meant! "You know... I forgot I have maybe one more advantage on ya! Huff... haaaaaa..." A final taunt, with a scary breath in. You see, there was a special thing in sports that people did after releasing their all. It was sort of a thing, where their body was pushed so much to their limit, that their body gave the feeling a voice. And letting it come out was said to make your efforts even better...
And let out he did. With an improvised Tarzan scream, he jumped from his run speed, grabbed the rope with his biceps shouting almost as loudly, as he swung his lower body forward, to make it over to the other side! At this point, he was only concentrating on making it to the goal... Releasing his grip from the rope, and stomping upon the Ramp, Before releasing another cry! "BOOYAH!" This time, to celebrate clearing the course to the end! The cry of victory however, was waiting and seeing, if Tetsuko was right now next to him.

As she started close the distance between herself and the leading Kirk with her iron-blooded ability, Tetsuko would find her skills praised by the American lad, though she could only shrug in response. "Yeah, it's got its uses..." The Shindou girl admitted, having not really considered all the possible ways it could be used. Truthfully, it wasn't until recently that she'd actually been considering all the possible uses beyond swords and armor. Indeed, she'd had to pull out all kinds of tools in her most recent fights, from metal binding type to spurs and spikes and even the wires she utilized now. Tetsuko Shindou had always been raised as a swordsman, so branching out from that specific skill set was proving to be quite an interesting challenge for her.
As they got over the final wall, it seemed like Kirk still didn't actually notice his Quirk's assistance. Perhaps it was a mutation that was never truly off in the first place, like Tetsuko's own? The Shindou girl, fascinated with Quirks as she was, had many questions to pose to the young lad when this was all over. For now, she focused on trying to keep up with him, his own height proving an advantage as he got over the wall before she did. It was coming down to the wire as their final stretch approached, and the winner would go him with another point to this little friendly rivalry of theirs.
Kirk seemed to finally realize the hot air balloon that had been aiding him in this stretch, Tetsuko still baffled how he hadn't noticed it before! Well, he did some like a pretty simple and somewhat dense guy, though the Shindou girl wasn't so different herself. The American got one last use out of his Quirk as he gave himself a nice wash of fresh air to cool himself off before continuing to charge down the final stretch. A surprisingly versatile Quirk, Tetsuko thought to herself, as she was becoming surprised she hadn't seen him use it more often during their race.
Said final challenge was a fittingly dramatic swing to victory, something the Shindou girl already knew that the energetic Kirk was going to enjoy. The main problem, however, was the jump required to reach the damn thing, meaning building up momentum was absolutely vital as they approached, lest they not make it to the other side in one swing or fall into the mud below. Either way they'd end up almost certainly losing the race with such a loss of ground, so their only option was to give it their absolute best!
As they ran for it, Kirk had one last taunt, a final advantage he supposedly possessed. "Oh yeah... And what's... That?"[/color] Tetsuko asked between pants. He began breathing in deeply, and Tetsuko had an idea what it was he might be doing, what last ditch effort he might have to push him over the finish line with full force. And, surely enough, a Tarzan-like scream soon began erupting from the boy!
[/span]Not one to be outdone, Tetsuko jumped for her own rope a split second after Kirk, yelling out her own battlecry as she focused all her remaining effort on this final swing. "BANZAI!" she bellowed, her and Kirk neck and neck as they swung to the goal, both using the same movements to maximise momentum, as their feet both came toward the platform at the same time... And ultimately... The winner...
Was Kirk!
Landing down a moment after, it seemed Kirk's powerful momentum and sheer mass had propelled him more quickly on the ropeswing, making him the victor of the race. Tetsuko panted from the exertion as she grinned at the American lad. "Damn... With this and the soccer, guess it's 1 all now!" She declared, not looking at all genuinely disappiointed in her loss. Not when it was opponent she was happy to lose to!
