How had it come to this? A question that lingered on Len's mind as she was hauling the equipment she was forced to drag along. Walking to her was a tall slender-build woman who was smiling calmly at her. "You see Len, our destination is right up ahead." The woman explained with a certain cheerfulness in her tone as she nodded toward the park. A bit up ahead some tents were being set up, several portable cooking utilities like a heater visible as they were busy heating up soup and preparing all sorts of meals. "Ugg, are you trying a new salespitch?" Len inquired, clearly displeased at the work she was being forced to do, yet the question made the young woman smile down at her and shake her head. "Today I'm not here for profit Len." Wait what?!
That must had been wrong! The woman next to her lived for profit! if it was up to her she would learn how to make money in her sleep! Yet the words that followed made her freeze for a moment. "This food is for the homeless and orphans." As the woman explained in a kind tone Len couldn't help but feel an unpleasant weight in her stomach. Len always had a soft spot for homeless people, especially orphans, courtesy of her own background, so to think she was complaining about carrying this equipment clearly made her feel horrible. Increasing the pace of her steps Len made her way toward the gathering point and placed the large kettle full of soup onto one of the tables and looked up at her companion, a softer than usual tone coming from her. "Want me to help with anything?"
A moment passed as the young woman thought about the question before she nodded her head lightly. "Can you keep an eye on the people? Sometimes having someone to talk to truly lifts their spirits." Len nodded her head lightly in agreement and after peeking around a little found a suitable weapon for a guardian of peace: a metal rod that was used as a spare for the tents their construction.
At first she approached one of the first visitors, an elderly man who, as she was told earlier clearly seemed to get more lively when she offered to listen and talk to him. The old man told her about his family, about his grandson who was trying to become a famous hero at a newly created institute in Musutafu and he kept going on and on about how proud he was of the teenager, and finally after he finished his meal he excused himself.
Must had been nice, to live such a carefree and innocent life, unaware of the true cruelty of this world. She was uncertain if heroes would ever be able to change the problems of their society... perhaps they truly needed someone like her who was willing to hunt and kill the corrupt and vile, even if she wasn't exactly a hero herself either!
Sighing softly she tapped the metal rod lightly against her shoulder and kept a sharp look at all the gathering people.

Grab your coat and get your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street! Most high school aged students tended to spend their time hanging around with their cliques and friend groups. This wasn't the case for a certain pink haired individual, however. Mostly because she hadn't been present at any of the team building events that her class had held. She didn't get sick often. But when she did, it tended to knock her out of commission for a while. It was why she had missed the cookout that she had been looking forward to. It would have given her a chance to interact with her classmates.
Still, she didn't want to dwell on things. And staying home would have made her do just that. So what did she do? She went to Tokyo Park. The place she usually went to hang out after school. Sure, she was usually on her own, but she would occasionally run into people she had been friends with in middle school. Strangely enough, the main areas of the park that she usually walked through were rather empty. That made enough sense. It was supposed to get pretty hot out today, so maybe people were just in their homes watching TV or something. However, that idea started to change as she heard the clamoring of a crowd.
There must have been something going on then! That alone made Mei-Lin's face light up in a grin as she picked up the pace of her walking..only to run into a crowd of homeless people and very roughed up looking children. Oh. Someone was helping these people. That actually made the stupid grin that had been on Mei-Lin's face slowly fade into a smaller, proud smile. She had heard lots of things about villains popping up everywhere, along with the whole situation with the drugged food and water of Yuuei.
But what she was seeing in front of her now reminded her why she had signed up for that very school to begin with. People were always capable of doing good things. As such, Mei-Lin found herself looking around for any signs of anyone who was organizing things. Eventually, her eye caught someone who seemed to be surveying the crowd. Unfortunately, Mei-Lin was on the opposite side of this whole event, her vision partially obscured by tents. So, through a stream of apologies, she slipped and bumped her way past various homeless people, only to reach out and tap the girl on the shoulder.
"Excuse me. Is there any way that I could help out?" She asked, still smiling as she waited for the girl holding the tent pole to turn around and answer her question. Hopefully she hadn't startled the woman. But if she had, she knew she could take whatever hit was going to be sent her way. She just wanted to try and help people out, after all.

When one imagined a high school student and their free time most tend to imagine that they hang around with their cliques and friends, a natural assumption to make but if one was to ask her she would truly have no idea how people spend their everyday lives. Simply said, Len found herself disconnected from the reality most took for granted, and rightly so. After all, having grown up in an orphanage one couldn't exactly call her upbringing normal. She was taught the basics to survive in society by the caretakers who were generous enough to spend time tending to her, but beyond that all those years were spend being trained into being a mercenary, so to say that Len had a bit of an unusual view on society and what was considered normal was an understatement.
She was quite pleased with the ongoing efforts of helping the homeless and the orphans, the staff that the owner of the 'Angler' had gathered had been diligent at work distributing warm meals to those who needed it, and after having helped carry some stuff over and listening to the woes of some elderly guests the girl was patrolling the venue to make sure no problems stirred. It was nothing unusual, people often preyed upon the weak and vulnerable, and it was quite likely it would happen here today also.
A lazy yawn escaped her lips as she watched some children happily licking some ice-cream cones, likely the first time they had ever been able to enjoy the flavor, and for a moment the girl couldn't help but find a smile emerge upon her lips. It reminded her of the distant past, of when she was still a child and able to enjoy the warmth and comfort of the 'family' she had at the orphanage. But those days were gone, even after she had searched for the other orphans or the caretakers, oddly enough not a sign of their whereabouts could be found, it was almost as if she was the last survivor of that place.
Spotting some children in ragged clothes looking at some kids who were passing by with a bag of potato chips the look of dejection on the children's faces in response to the luxury of the 'normal' people made Len sigh softly as she approached the tents. "Kaede, do we have some ice cream cones?" The bartender looked at her for a moment in bewilderment before spotting the children and smiled kindly at her, gesturing at the nearby cooling box. "There are some cornettos in there." And with that said the girl nodded her head in affirmation, opening the box and picking out three ice cream cones and approached the children.
It warmed her heart a little to see the trio smile so brightly once they had a chance to taste the ice-cream, and it reminded her that in a cruel world like theirs it was up to people like them to stick together, society as a whole usually cared nothing about them, the government made that clear to her, and yet sometimes kindness could be found in the least expected places.
Someone called out to her, a light tap on her shoulder making her turn turn to face the stranger. It was a pink-haired lass, a cute one at that but the question she asked caught her slightly by surprise. "Hmm, we got enough people distributing the food, but if you want to help, can you help pick up some of the paper cups and food bowls? sometimes they forget to throw them away and the boss-lady over there doesn't want to get scolded if we leave the park with all this trash loitering around." She gestured with the pole toward the paper cup nearby, scooping it up with the object and marched over toward the nearby garbage can.
"Or you can help take the food to the elderly people who are too tired to wait in the line, either option works, if you do the latter tell the people behind the counter Len send ya."

Grab your coat and get your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street! As she got a better look at the person she was walking up to, Mei-Lin was almost unsure that this person was actually working as help, or if she had just been standing there watching everything. However, that changed when she saw this girl ask for ice cream for the children around her. That actually brought a smile to her face. Not a wildly energetic smile either. A small, genuine smile. So instead of hesitating, she went ahead and got the girl's attention, nodding as she listened to what was said. This was simple enough, and she was a fairly fast person. She could probably handle this easily enough. So once this girl explained what two things she could do to help, along with presumably introducing herself by telling her a name to give to the people behind the counter, Mei-Lin nodded, that pink head of hair shifting a bit as she did.
Of course, she held her hand out before leaving. "Alright Len. Nice to meet you. My name's Mei-Lin." She said as she waited for her to shake her hand. Once that was done, she turned and walked back towards the food counter, parroting what Len had said, only to be given two bowls of soup to take to a table that was near the back. That made the student nod as she took each bowl and carefully made her way past the line, eventually placing each bowl gently down on the table, and politely apologizing to the people waiting for the length of time it took for them to get their food.
Then she made her way back, picking up pieces of trash every so often and throwing them into the garbage can right by the food counter, where she was given instructions to take these smaller bowls of soup and one larger one to a table that had a mother and her children, along with being given a couple of ice cream sandwiches for the kids. Of course, she nodded and took everything, packing the sandwiches into her pockets so that the heat from the soup wouldn't end up melting the sandwiches quicker. She seemed to be taking this job very seriously, as she even apologized to the mother for the time it took, and asked the kids if they wanted some ice cream before pulling the sandwiches out of her pockets.
She wanted to be a hero for reasons like this. To help people. She didn't want fame and fortune. She didn't care about that. She just wanted to do what she could to help. Unfortunately, her quirk meant that she wasn't really suited for rescue missions, and was more suited for in the trenches warfare against criminals. But that didn't upset her. Help was help, after all. Once again, she made her way back after delivering the food, throwing away any trash that she ran across. The whole time, she smiled. She didn't have pity for these people.
She understood that nobody made the choice to be homeless, and that everyone was doing their best. She felt for them. It was empathy that she held, not pity. Honestly, if anyone could look into her head right now, they would definitely find the makings of a pro hero later down the road.

Indeed, it was quite easy to have mistaken Len's involvement in the ongoing event as an onlooker. In the end, she merely looked like a middle-school girl at best, and as such, it was quite common for people to be struck by disbelief once her actual age was brought to light. However, as the pink-haired lass addressed her Len chuckled softly, seemingly amused by something as she mused out softly. "No honorifics? Heh~ Pleasure to meet ya Lin." the lass clad in pink answered in response as she accepted the handshake as she watched Lin leave to help out the crowd. However, there was one harsh truth that the pink devil learned in her time on the streets: no matter the place or society, the strong always preyed on the weak and if they saw a vulnerable prey you could bet that at some point a predator would come to bite.
It all began after a few hours since they had set up, of course, rumor of their charity started to spread, and in the eyes of thugs and hoodlums those homeless people were considered prey, weakened and easy to exploit and as such they were quick to bite, as became evident when a group of four thugs armed with light weaponry like knives and iron pipes approached them, simply said they were the traditional troublemakers you would find in any questionable district of a big city.
"Len" The young woman she referred to as Boss called out to her, making Len raise a hand at her and shake her head. "Don't call the police, it will scare the homeless away and force us to quit for the day. I'll deal with them." The girl answered calmly as she lightly whapped the iron pole in her hands and stepped in the direction of the approaching thugs. The first to react were the thugs when they saw her extend the iron pole sideways as if to obstruct them from passing her the leader of the hoodlums declared arrogantly. "Out of the way kiddo, we're here to collect money, not to play with brats." Yet it seemed that Len had a choice of words in mind which would be very quick to provoke the hoodlums. "Wow, I thought I heard the military was in town, not the circus... they lost their monkeys again. Wonder if we'll get a reward for bringing them back."
The leader of the hoodlums was quick to glare in anger, raising the large pipe he was holding and seemingly prepared to swing it down on top of her head. "Batto-kun... let's deal with them." the girl mused softly as she nimbly sidestepped and did something quite peculiar. With a fairly skilled set of parkouring abilities the girl hopped onto the railing of a nearby bench and delivered a clean swing to the back of the man's head, knocking him flat on the ground while one of his goons attempted to rush at her, a futile effort as the girl effortlessly anticipated his rush and jumped off the bench, her leap making her feet land slightly against the taller man's back, pushing him onto the bench while she landed onto the ground, turning toward the thug before her with a smirk. "Are you guys leaving already?" But it seemed Len had yet to notice the encroaching thug that was sneaking up behind her!
