Darren shut off the broadcast and his phone with a sigh.
On some level, he had prepared himself for this. Of course there were gonna be plenty of self-righteous students at hero school, and of course, they would all chime in with their little comment and their opinions of how it was fucked up this, fucked up that, and what about the civilians, and more of what Darren decided was emotional bullshit of the lowest order.
The blonde delinquent said he just found it all quite boring. When he heard that a hospital in the middle of Tokyo was under attack by a villain and that a hero was fighting, he turned on his TV excitedly and started plotting the fastest route to the train station in his head. He stopped doing that after a few seconds of watching the broadcast win increasing disinterest.
Any fun that was to be had over there would immediately have been spoiled. He bet that even if he was to jump in and stop a lady from redecorating the pavement with a postmodern splash of blood and guts, he would get in trouble for using his quirk in public. A lifetime of delinquency -- a third of a lifetime, really -- taught him to be extremely wary about using his power in the presence of such a large concentration of phones, cameras and assorted recording devices.
As such, he resigned himself to watching the fight, but there was even less fun to be had over there. When he turned off his TV, the pair was still locked into a clash of energy beams that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a shonen manga, but then again, in this brave new world of quirks, few things would have looked out of place in a shonen manga. He liked to think that he himself was the perfect example and took a lot of pride in it.
He jumped off his bed like a spring toy. People were still being dramatic on the school chat. Darren sighed again, threw his phone on the bed and slapped a pair of running shoes on his feet.
The cool evening air always gave him an odd sense of peace. It helped with the alienation. He never felt more alone than in these moments; while everyone was getting up in arms about justice, injustice, fucked-upness and other grand principles, his eyes displayed the same even look they always did, and his head and heart were as cool as ever. Darren simply didn’t think so strongly and so emotionally about the things that his peers were outraged by. He was well aware of this.
It was a strange sensation. On the one hand, the delinquent prided himself on this. It made him better, it made him act more rational, it made him keep his cool where others blew their tops. He proudly thought of it as something that placed him above everyone else.
On the other hand, Darren was an adolescent, and no matter how much he refused to admit it, he wanted to belong, he wanted to be acknowledged, he wanted to be praised, and he knew that he would get none of that if he started going off about his classmates being emotional fools.
So he threw his phone on his bed, and ran away into the night, far from everyone, where he could do what he did best.
Darren wasn’t really going for a run, or if he was, his choice of a route was rather questionable, as it led the blondie hero-in-training through the heart of Musutafu’s worst neighborhoods. He soon found was he was looking for in a back alley.
Four people armed with a collection of blunt weapons ranging from crowbars to baseball bats and clad in hoodies, ski masks, and kerchiefs were surrounding the back door of a dingy convenience store, and a fifth one was at work on the hinges. The top hinge had already given up; they only had to dislodge the bottom one and jackpot, meager as it was, would be theirs.
Darren slowed down to a trot, then to a walk. He cracked his knuckles, and then his neck. A smile that definitely wasn’t so sane drew itself on his lips as he approached them and they started to take notice.

G was minding his own business and just wanted to rest a bit. But suddenly he got a text message. He looked to see who was it from, and then saw it was Miku. She kept texting him about some stuff. A Villain fighting a Hero in a Hospital? UA Students arent allowed to go. And yet, she contacted him to go. G grinned when he realized his girl was using a loophole, he was so proud. She couldnt go, but the Principal never said she couldnt go and make someone from outside the school to go and check things out. He then turned on the TV to get the feel of the situation, to know what could possibly await him. Aaaaand his interest rapidly dcreased when he saw ThunderCock fighting some chick he didnt give a shit about.
Normally he would go and fight, but the thing was it was ThunderShock. Who obviously control electricity. And if G's Quirk has a weakness, it is friggin electricity, due to its heavy water affinity. Water and Electricity DONT mix well. And even if he or Goliath dont get singed by electricity, then they'd be arrested on the spot by the cops, either when making their way to the scene or when fleeing it. He may be a Vigilante who does good..ish deeds now. But he's still an ex Villain.
G sighed and turned off the TV and texted Miku that he'll see what he can do, just so he wouldnt completely let her down. Since he didnt go to the main event that has the eyes on Japan on TV, he decided to patrol his neighbourhood. With so many eyes on the TV following this mess ThunderBlock, G was sure there'd be some minor annoyances using the distraction to steal or burglarize something or someone. So he got up and went to patrol. He got dressed in his Vigilante costume, which was just white shoes, black pants, white t-shirt, black jacket, gold necklace and sunglasses...at night. Yes, he wore regular thug gangsta clothes as his costume. Either way, he left his home to patrol. Starting with his neighbourhood. It was night after all. That was his time to go out and prowl and hunt for thugs.
Things were fine in his area. That was good. He scared the thugs away. It also helped that he lived a few minutes away from UA. So he went to one of the worses and more shitty neighbourhoods. He knew he could always find there some fun.
As he walked he saw the back of a dingy convenience store in the distance and suspicious people, obviously minor thugs trying to break in. G grinned and cracked his knuckles and started approaching the scene. He didnt bother being stealthy at all, he openly started approaching them and naturally gained their attention. "Hey guys, check dis out" Thug 1 said and their attention turned to their white haired intruder, completely unaware there's a blonde one nearby as well

A few hours ago, a group of friends like any other were sitting around in the crib of one of its members, watching TV, drinking, talking, fulfilling the human need for interaction in the uniquely satisfying way that hanging out and talking with your good friends provided, that indescribable feeling of homeliness.
They were perhaps a little different from the idea people had of the average group of friends, as they were born and raised into the poorest neighborhoods of the region, and they all have complicated childhoods, which at one point intertwined. The bond thus formed would last for life.
Keisuke, the de facto leader and the one who rented the crib in which they hung out, was providing for almost all of them by dealing coke. Aoki was just out of prison after a pickpocket attempt gone wrong and struggling to find anyone willing to employ him. Ryota and Kaito had part-time jobs on barely more than a high schooler’s salary, and Takeru couldn’t work anymore, and seldom spoke either.
Some of them were kinds souls. Some of them weren’t so nice. Some of them would pose a challenge to an extremely judging deity with a poorly thought-out morality system trying to sort them between eternal suffering and eternal bliss. In another life, they would have been delivery men, small-time manager, perhaps lawyers, perhaps the owner of a private hospital.
But in this world, they were dealers, store clerks, ex-convicts, temp workers, or dealing with extreme PTSD. And tonight, what they had seen on the news spurred them into action. They had enough of this life, so they threw it away. They wanted their slice of the cake too.
Upon closer examination, both top and bottom hinges of the door had been smashed, the top one cleanly, the bottom one in a way that made it worse for the purpose of opening it and forcing them to try and work it off the frame. The steel curtain which normally guarded the door had been cut with a power saw and left on the side. It was a wonder the noise didn’t attract anyone sooner.
Takeru was the one who was working on the door, a faint bubble of white air barely visible around him. He had impressed everyone when he supported Keisuke’s idea. Keisuke wanted him to stay home, and Takeru vehemently refused. He said that they would need his power.
Aoki hollered to check something out. It was a dude with white hair and sunglasses in the night. Darren saw it too, and no one seemed to have noticed Darren as he was coming out of a comparatively darker alley.
Darren also saw a guy draw what looked to be a gun at the intruder. Blue electricity sparkled on him.
Keisuke intended to say “Back the fuck off,” but right as he was about to say the words a dirty white running shoe crashed on his wrist and the gun escaped his grasp. The dirt white running shoe was attached to a leg clad in dark shorts with red stripes, itself attached to body clad in an equally red meshed t-shirt. The whole ensemble belonged to Daimon Darren. The leader of the small-time thugs yelped in pain, but no sound came out of his mouth. When the gun crashed a couple meters away, accidentally releasing the hammer, striking the pin, igniting the primer and firing a bullet between G and the thugs, no sound came out either. In the confusion, no one seemed to notice a barely visible bubble of thin white air expanding and enveloping everyone in a ten-meter radius.
That was Takeru’s quirk. The effect was simple, yet useful: for as long as he maintained it, no sound would come out from within the zone, and no outside noise would come in his zone of absolute silence. No one would be woken up by the sounds of their fight just as no one had been woken up when they cut open the steel curtain and smashed the hinges.
The thugs were more used to their friend’s quirk than Darren, who had recently jumped in the middle of them and kicked their leader in the wrist. That was an offense they would answer to with even greater violence.
They coordinated quickly despite the sudden total absence of noise, which surprised Darren greatly, enough that he had no choice but to block the aluminum baseball bat and the steel chain that were coming at him, guided by the hands of Kaito and Ryota. Aoki was squinting at G as if trying to remember him.
His guard was tight and he was tough, but damn it hurt like hell. The pain was a reminder that metal weapons weren’t something that Darren could quite block yet as he backstepped away, his body lighting up with his quirk for a tenth of a second and pulling him back as if yanked by a leash.
While Kaito and Keisuke -- who was rubbing his wrist painfully -- squared up in front of Darren, Aoki and Ryota were to take care of G. Aoki had the crowbar and Keisuke pulled out a switchblade, darting quick looks around to try and locate his gun. Takeru was still working frenetically on the hinge. That was fine. No one expected Takeru to fight.

Oh lookie, someone drew a gun at him. We got a badass over here. G went to dealt with the guy, but before he did anything. A new challenger made a dynamic entrace and kicked the guy in the wrist. Considering he kicked the guys gun out of his hand, he was on G's side. At least thats what he hoped. But then he noticed the age "Its just a kid. Oh my God. Now I gotta babysit a wannabe Hero" he thought to himself and shook his head, he was very annoyed
What got G was, when the boy kicked the guy. The thug screamed in pain, but G heard nothing. He saw the open mouth and the look of wonderful agony. But no noise. Same with the bullet that passed between him and the thugs. No sound. The speeding bullet made him freeze for a second. But only for a second, because when he saw that a guy was squinting at him. That made him snap back to reality. He didnt like the funny look Aoki gave him. G wanted to do the same and see who the hell did he think he was. But he and his lil group were obscured by hoodies, ski masks, kerchiefs and what not. As he assessed the situation, he saw the hooded Aoki with his crowbar and the masked Ryota had whatever. G didnt pay him much attention. He was curious to see who and why he got funny looks He glared at them and said "You think you're some hot shit huh?" but no noise came out. Well he hoped they could read lips. But in case he did. He used the power of sign language. Which was G pointing at them and then making a crushing hand gesture. The two managed to understand that which provoked him and made them charge at G with their weapons.
Considering this zone just ate all sound. G had hatched a devious idea that made him don a slasher smile. G used his Quirk in a dirty way. Considering his Spirit Animal could stay manifested anywhere within 6 meters radius of G. He just summoned Goliath behind Ryota and made Goliath savagely bite Ryota in the shoulder and hold him down. That was G's one advantage of this circle of silence. Goliath was a good surprise attack since he could just silently appear behind his foes. And the other thugs who were with the boi could not warn their allies of danger, because once again, no sound.
This left G with the squinty guy, ironically he doesnt recognize his abandoned cellmate under the hoodie because G could not be bothered to remember. Unlike Aoki who very much remembered him now. Nevertheless he attacked G, and G dodged the crowbar attacks, he waited for a moment to maybe grab the crowbar or disarm Aoki. While dodging Aoki's attacks, he noticed Goliath getting overly agressive with Ryota. Biting him at his shoulder, maybe starting to go overboard "HEY DONT EAT HIM!!!" but oh yeah, no sound "Dammit!! Now I gotta beat this guy and kick Goliath in the face to knock it off" G thought
But he got an idea. He made a time out hand gesture, which just confused Aoki. G quickly ran to stop Goliath from eating a human. Aoki sure didnt notice since he attacked G and all sound was gone and eaten. G kicked Goliath in the head and made quick hand gestures to stop, which made the spirit animal confused as why his master would use handsigns "You fucking ass clown!!!" G said, but no sound came out. Thats when Goliath saw and noticed that where ever he was manifested there was no sound. Which Aoki went to use to his advantage again to hit G with a crowbar. But Goliath used his ability and shot a stream of water from his mouth at Aoki. Hit him in the face and pushed him back a bit. Goliath still had Ryota pinned down. G continued with his battle, he had no time to protect the wannabe hero boy that was Daimon Darren. He had his hands full since he heard no sound and his Quirk was occupied with another "Stupid voice nullifying Quirk. Messin me up! This would have been more professional if I was alone and had the sound on and not this mute button!!!" he thought to himself.

Complete and utter silence had thrown a certain wild delinquent for a loop. He had fought in weird conditions before, but never without sounds. It was a new experience; one didn’t quite appreciate how much information our sense of hearing gave us on our surroundings.
Darren’s eyes were more focused than ever and his arms were sparkling and flying to meet blows. He could only do so much. The knife was the more dangerous one, and often he had to take a hit from the bad on the shoulder or the forearm to block a stab or a slash. Clearly, it wasn't neither of them’s first rodeo, and especially Keisuke was a finer knifeman than he looked.
The two guys he was facing were obviously more used to fighting in complete silence than he was. Alone, they wouldn’t be such a thread, but the tightly knit group of lowlifes stuck together, and the total was greater than the sum of its parts.
Alone, his life in palpable danger, only hanging by the thread of his hands, the adrenaline pumped through his veins like never. He couldn’t hear his heartbeat, but he could feel the blood flow in his veins. In the complete silence of the area, his concentration sharpened like it never had. This had the effect of drawing a horrible rictus on the blondie’s face. Kaito hesitated a little, and he could not be faulted; Darren was looking downright crazy right now, and there was quite some truth to the idea.
A glance over his left shoulder was enough to remind him he had been lucky, as he saw Ryota get bitten by a huge insectoid creature that came out of nowhere. There was a mask of terror on his face, but the sight of his friend Ryota in danger was enough to turn terror into courage, perhaps even foolhardiness.
With a poke to Keisuke’s shoulder to warn his friend of the danger, Kaito charged angrily, screaming a silent war cry at the top of his lungs and bringing his bat down crashing on Goliath’s head. Keisuke, after a quick glance behind, steeled his nerves and faced Darren, preventing the boy from intervening -- not that Darren wanted to mess with the giant creature that came out of nowhere anyway, as much as it seemed to be on his side. Rampaging creatures seemed to be on your side when they rampaged against your enemy up until they rampaged on your ass.
The gun was still laying on the edge of the battlefield, unseen by the belligerents. The fifth man of the crew, Takeru, was still working frenetically on the hinge, trying to wrestle the door off with the energy of desperation. He kept shooting worried glances over his shoulder.
He caught sight of the gun on his latest glance and froze up.
The man, or the boy rather, was no older than twenty, and his face was not the mask but the face of terror. Ryota was being eaten by a giant armadillo thing that he didn’t know the name of and was probably still scary at its regular size. Ryota had always been nice to him. The others were all fighting for their lives.
Trembling like a leaf in a storm, Takeru slowly got up, his brown eyes fixated on the gun through the ski mask, and took a first, heavy step towards the weapon.

Aoki was pushed back by a sudden stream of water that was shot in his face. Its as if water guns were actually useful for something. G used the moment of surprise to grab the crowbar out of his hands.
Meanwhile Goliath felt a sudden unpleasant sensation. It was a hit to the head by a bat. Luckily, he was hit at the top of his head, which was still covered by his tough armoury exoskeleton. He shook his head and stood up holding Ryota and tossing him at Keisuke. Now, Goliath wanted to just deal with Kaito.
Back to G. He used to crowbar to try and injure Aoki. Nothing thats deadly, but he aimed the kneecaps or the shoulders. Or any limbs or non deadly area. G managed to actually hit him hard on his left wrist. Surely that hurt and was nonlethal. While Aoki was in pain, G made sure to unmask his attacker by pulling down his hoodie, only to see deja vu. "Oi, its you" he said even though it couldnt be heard. G suddenly remembered who this was. He could not remember the name but he sure remembered the face. "Oh boy, the irony" he couldnt help but comment, even if unheard. The guy who got jailed for pickpocketing was fighting a guy who got jailed for burglary, mugging and vandalism. Honestly, between the 2 of them. Aoki was the lesser evil. After jail G only became worse, but only until recently. Because recently, he made a change, for real. His last 3 or 5 years. They were a long proces that were a transition from a Professional Villian to a Professional Vigilante
Meanwhile, Goliath while fighting and trying to slash Kaito with his claws, noticed the firearm that Takeru was starting to go for. Once again Goliath used his water gun like attack. He shot a stream of water from his mouth at the gun to blast it away from anyones reach, preferably out of the battlefield at all.

The fight had soon turned into a mess. Goliath, the giant armadillo who seemed to be on Darren’s side, but he wasn’t sure, threw the man it was holding in its maw at the one who just hit it with a crowbar. The two men ended up on the ground. Kaito got up first and helped his friend do the same, and they faced the monster, clutching their weapons. They were scared.
The blonde boy shot a quick glance sideways. The white-haired man who seemed to control the armadillo -- judging by the fact he was the only person present who was not afraid of the thing -- was having what seemed to be an argument with another thug. He wasn’t sure. He had his own fight to focus on.
The man in front of him knew his switchblade all right. Darren had to use his quirk if only to give himself a margin of error. He couldn’t cut it too close, or he would get stabbed, and if he got stabbed, he would definitely be in trouble. Darren didn’t like being in trouble because then his mom got involved.
Kaito and Ryota were surprised when the monster shot a jet of water behind him, but then they shot a glance and they caught sight of Takeru, and they saw the gun slide and they understood. What they didn’t expect to see was Takeru running towards the gun. They shouted for him to stop. It was useless.
As he ran away from the battle, his zone followed him and before they realized what was happening, most of the combatants were outside of it. Darren was shocked by the sudden return of sound, and the lapse in concentration caused him to dodge too late and get a cut on his left forearm. It was a shallow cut, but clean, and it bled.
With the return of sound, a nearby window lit up, and a human-like figure appeared in it. Someone had seen what was happening. It was only a matter of time until the cops arrived.

And with that, the sound of ambence returned, it was welcomed. For a guy like G, silence was murder. Punishment as if solitary confinement, he's a music man, he loves sound, he needs sound. AS soon as he was able to speak, he finally was able to cummunicate and give direction
"Ok. Goliath, enough playing around. Just end those two chucklefucks" he ordered Goliath who quickly picked up Kaito and Ryouta and bashed their heads together in order to knock em out.
G focused on Aoki "You..I remember you now. You're that guy from the cell" he said, but didnt react much, this sudden deja vu caused him to get lost in thought. He hadnt expected to see anyone from jail, let alone of all things his friggin cell mate. He shook his head and threatened him with the crow bar "Dont you dare move or else!" he ordered his cell mate and glanced at the blonde fool that was Darren. And he finally adressed him "Boi!! What do you think you're doing?? Git out! This is a job for a Pro"
G may not be a Pro Hero, but he is a Pro Ass Kicker. He didnt need a kid slowing him down.
