"I don't think crybaby's fair." Tetsuko mused as the thought back on the simpler past. If only things could be so black and white as they had been back then. Back when they didn't have to worry about the weight behind their own emotions. "You just cared a lot." The Shindou girl said with a wistful smile. Elise cared about many things, being equal parts selfish and kind... Such a strange girl, but the one Tetsuko had chosen, and she trusted her decision.
After leaving the train and finding themselves caught up in trouble, it wasn't long before Tetsuko managed to get them out of it. She was wary of other people by this point, so she didn't have any reservations about threatening the young men with her blade. Once they fled, the swordswoman breathed a sigh of relief, retracting the blade back into her hand and blocking any bleeding with the iron. Elise didn't need to know about her little persuasion methods. Tetsuko looked down at Elise, smiling reassuringly at her companion. She looked so cute like this, so close and reliant on the Shindou girl. It was this very dependence that Tetsuko guiltily savored... "Yeah, looks like they went off to bother someone else..." Tetsuko said casually, gazing down with affection at Elise. This closeness and mutual reliance was their very foundation, it seemed.
"Take your time." Tetsuko whispered softly as she held Eli closed, giving her all the time she needed to improve her mood. If she needed time, or space, or anything, the Shindou girl was ready to give it to her. Such was her dedication. She just smiled lovingly as Elise nuzzled into her, recovering after a brief moment. "Anytime you need." Tetsuko affirmed as they walked off, uninterrupted, into the cinemas.
It always did inspire a bit of awe, that large complex that was a cinema in the city. Back in Musutafu, there wasn't anything close to this size, and in Kashima even less so. The humble coastal town was a fraction of the size of Tokyo, and yet, the big city never did overwhelm Tetsuko. At least, not while she had Elise by her side. After ordering their tickets, Tetsuko was a bit more conservative in her selection of snacks. She was content enough with a bottle of mineral water and a small bag of popcorn. Buttered, of course.
Seated at the back of the cinema, Tetsuko couldn't help but wonder Elise's motives. She'd known her more than long enough to realize that there was almost definitely an intention to tease under the privacy granted, but so be it. Sitting down comfortably, she held Elise's hand as the girl teased Tetsuko.
"As long as you don't squeal during the romance scenes." Tetsuko teased back, fully aware of what Elise's favourite parts of this cinematic franchise were. She settled into her seat, letting Elise's head rest against her shoulder as the movie began.

Did she have any ulterior motive behind picking the back seats? Perhaps she did, for it was there that they had the most privacy, where it was just the two of them. When Tetsuko teasingly remarked about her not squealing during the romance movies she didn't answer beyond a soft snicker, because it was a promise she wouldn't be able to keep. The movie first started with a classic chase wherein typical fashion of a Master Hiroko movie, the heroine dealt with her pursuers in a martial-inclined way that was kind of funny also.
First, she had cut the rope that held a part of a structure on the ground, sending the two goons flying into the air and tumble down into a nearby garbage bin, then she engaged in a short scuffle with one of them and send him reeling into a fish tank!
Overal it was simple but silly scenes that left Elise both on the edge of her seat and giggling softly at the humor. As the movie advanced it became clear that the movie had a simple plot line: The villain of this story was a former classmate of Master Hiroko who was jealous of everything the girl had accomplished, and hoped to break her spirit by kidnapping Miyu, the girlfriend of Master Hiroko and making her succumb to a love potion to love the villain instead! Of course, things didn't work in favor for the villain as a goon messed up and accidentally replaced the love potion with a carbonated drink and consumed it himself, leading to him to confess to a female goon of the villain and both abandoned the mission to live happily ever after. A simple plot, but one that showed just how strong Elise could feel emotions for in the span of those few hours she had laughed, cried, trembled in fear and finally the scene she had waited for arrived.
Hiroko had saved Miyu, and as the villain asked her why she failed Hiroko told her it was because she would never abandon Miyu, she would never leave behind the one she loved. Elise couldn't help but find her gaze glues to the screen, thinking just how much Hiroko and those words reminded her of Tetsuko, yet as the scene was ended with a romantic kiss between Hiroko and Miyu the Germanic girl's cheeks flushed up lightly. She squeezed Tetsuko's hand lightly, finding her blush intensify as she whispered softly. "Say Tetsuko..." She whispered tenderly, her blush intensifying as she leaned back into her chair and faced the girl. "Can you try to..." She really was going to ask her? Then again, blame the damned movie for giving her this idea! "Kiss me?"
Nobody would see them there, in the shadows of the cinema room, and considering they had the back rows all for themselves Elise had considered it a perfect opportunity, especially after the movie had stirred her mood so strongly.

Tetsuko had once wondered if movies, and entertainment as a whole, had always been intended to be this much of an 'escape'. But, as she held Eli's hand and the screening started, the Shindou girl began to realize that escaping their troubles was something they were perfectly capable of doing on their own. Of course, movies still helped somewhat. There was a refreshing, otherworldly air to watching the heroine so easily and humorously deliver justice to her foes, always being in the right place at the right time and humiliating villains like they deserved. Tetsuko snickered in her seat at the opening comedy, settling in with Elise for the film.
From there, the usual simple and self-aware antics continued. Being the straightforward girl she was, Tetsuko could admire the straightforward nature of the plot, where everything had a clear reason for being, an obvious beginning, and a predictable ending. It was silly, it was unrealistic, and it was amazing. Tetsuko had always found herself, since a young age, putting herself in the shoes of the protagonist, being a self-assured force who could protect their loved ones... Who was never too concerned with the wrongdoings of others, who themselves always seemed to find redemption. The swordswoman was so easily invested for that reason, although her reactions weren't quite as animated as Elise's. It was adorable, how the Germanic girl responded to each scene, so invested in the story and the characters...
And of course, Elise only became more captivated once the romantic conclusion was reached. Tetsuko had never considered it before... But she could see the Germanic girl placing herself in the shoes of Miyu, and not just because of their shared German heritage. The Japanese girl kept sneaking glances toward the cute Elise, eyes fixed on the screen, until the scene ended with a simple, romantic kiss. Their held hands tightened, and Tetsuko couldn't help but get a bit fidgety. Then Eli spoke. Their eyes locked, Tetsuko tilting her head quizzically to see what it was Elise wanted...
"E-Eh?" Had she just heard Elise right? She wanted Tetsuko... To kiss her!? Tetsuko stared at her for a few seconds, red hue appearing in her cheeks as she processed this request. It explained why their seats were so far back. "A-Alright, just... Gimme a few seconds to prepare..." She stammered out, leaning back and beginning her mental preparation. She and Elise had only kissed once, er, twice, and both times Eli had been the one to initiate it! What was she even supposed to do?
Elise would feel the weight the seconds passing as Tetsuko wracked her brains for a plan of attack. Should she say something first? Caress her gently? Was there any technique to it? Ah, Gods, she should've studied for this test! Well, like anything, the Shindou girl did have one fallback strategy... Head-on, no matter the obstacles.
There would be no warning for Elise, just that after quite a few seconds had passed, Tetsuko would suddenly jolt up, pulling Eli in with their held hands and placing a firm yet chaste kiss on the Germanic girl's lips. It wasn't reserved, not wildly passionate, but the affection was evident. Eyes closed, mind blank, Tetsuko held the kiss for a couple seconds, before pulling back. Mouth agape in awe, she looked at Elise softly with flushed cheeks. Not a word was on her mind, she'd no clue what to say... Well, she did say one thing, a simple word association with the taste...
"...Apples..."

Tetsuko's flustered reaction to her request almost made Elise giggle, if not for the fact that she suppressed it with all her might in order to show just how serious her request was. Of course, she knew that when Tetsuko asked her for some time to prepare, the burgundy-haired lass nodded her head sheepishly in return. Some might had thought she had merely been inspired by the movie, but the truth was: in the two times she had kissed her childhood friend, she had always been the one to initiate the kiss. The first time Tetsuko had suffered a concussion and didn't remember the event until she was confronted with it, and the second time she was drugged. This time? This time she wanted a genuine kiss, one that showcased Tetsuko's emotions clearly.
Seconds ticked by as she pushed back her nerves, waiting with that gentle smile upon her lips and then it came. When Tetsuko suddenly jolted up, pulling her in with their held hands Elise felt herself leaning forwards and her lips sealed in a tender chaste kiss. Even if it only lasted for a few seconds, to Elise it felt like an eternity passed. This feeling... it was almost impossible to put in words. It was a chaste kiss, one that was neither reserved nor wildly passionate but it conveyed Tetsuko's affection clearly, and that was all it needed to do.
The soft sensation of Tetsuko's lips send jolts through her body, a warmth spreading through her body as she felt that overwhelming affection that lingered even in the wake of the events that had happened. She had hurt Tetsuko so much, and yet she had always remained at her side. This warmth was unlike anything she felt before, this joy was something more special than just happiness.
Perhaps it was for that reason that it was so effective, that even as Tetsuko withdrawn her lips Elise's cheeks were as red as a tomato, a finger lingering toward her lips as she thought about what this feeling was. Yes, this was an affection that Tetsuko showed only to her, it was exclusive to her, if she couldn't take this as a signal of love, then what could love possibly have been? Right around the time Tetsuko whispered that word she would have found Elise leaning in, pressing her lips back onto Tetsuko's in a similar kiss to convey another message.
It was a wordless promise, that she would be hers, that she would show Tetsuko a love that was exclusive to her, but even more the way she gently held Tetsuko seemed so soft, so fragile and yet so secure that it clearly showed she had entrusted her own self to the girl.
If she was Tetsuko's lord, then Tetsuko would be the samurai she'd entrust her life to, although she'd rather consider Tetsuko a Yojinbo and herself a princess, that was much more romantic, right? After a longer moment she finally leaned back and grinned sheepishly at Tetsuko. "And you tasted like popcorn~"
A giggle followed as she rose from her seat as the end credits rolled from the screen, and remembering a certain English phrase she turned toward Tetsuko and thanked her with a smile. "Thank you darling~" Oh gods, she would have stayed to watch Tetsuko's expression to those words, if not for the fact she turned away right after that to hide her blushing face.
At least part 1 of the date plan had worked out splendidly! For the next part... "Say Tetsu~ I was thinking about doing some shopping next~ Do you know any stores around here that sell martial arts equipment?" Elise and martial arts? A curious combination for sure, but at least Tokyo did have a lot of shops!

OWas it selfish to want someone to need you? Tetuko wasn't sure on the answer to that internally debated question, but she was sure that it certainly felt rather self-indulgent. Pulling back from their kiss, she felt lightning dance over her skin, gentle yet electrifying. It was a tamed energy, a force full of heart. To be able to claim that kiss was her right, and that realization was a ray of warmth from within the Shindou girl. She was trusted with that right, she was the only one who could be. And maybe it was wrong for her to enjoy that, but it definitely didn't feel wrong.
It felt so right, to have Elise follow up with her own greedy kiss. Words were simply insufficient to describe the feeling that struck into her by the tender touch of their lips against one another's. It was not passionate or lustful, but there was such a clear desire to the act, an unsatisfied want on both their parts. A need for that closeness, for that validation. For Tetsuko to know that Elise needed to kiss her, it was wonderful, it inspired awe and made her feel so much more blissfully aware of Elise's own feelings. Amongst it all, the Shindou girl even mused that all the 'pain' she'd felt was worth it for this warmth. It was a joy beyond happiness, beyond description, beyond classification.
Her body had such a heat to it after that second kiss, that Tetsuko felt as though the iron in her body might just melt. It felt like Elise knew that too, such a gentle and delicate touch as they kissed, yet so secure and unwavering. It wasn't just an expression of affection, it was a promise, and a call to loyalty. Elise entrusted herself to Tetsuko, she needed the young swordswoman as much as the swordswoman needed the security and affection of her lord. Yojimbo and princess, knight and lady, samurai and lord... The details mattered not, only the trust and stability they held were important.
Still riding the high from that concentrated dosage of validation, Tetsuko would return Eli's sheepish smile as the Germanic girl lamented the taste of popcorn. "Well... At least I buttered it?" She'd say with a soft chuckle, feeling the heat become a soothing warmth, a contentment, though temporary, setting within her.
The day was saved, and the end credits started to roll, though Tetsuko could hardly pay much attention to them with Elise's little comment. Her English wasn't great, but even she recognized the warmth to those words. "Y-You're welcome..." The Japanese girl stammered out, looking down at her own feet with reddened cheeks. They could be so affectionate yet awkward, sometimes...
As the exited the cinema, Elise suddenly postured a question that Tetsuko would never have expected. "Martial arts equipment? Yeah, I think I know a few places... There's that sports equipment place on the other side of the station..." She pondered, a much greater curiosity nagging at her. "We don't have to go shopping there, y'know, if there's somewhere else you'd rather go." Tetsuko would say with a half-smile, wondering if maybe it was for her own sake that Elise suggested it. There was the possibility that Elise herself was interested in martial arts equipment, but... No, that just didn't make any sense!

In response to Tetsuko's teasing remark and the chuckle, Elise couldn't help but snicker briefly. "Mhmm, it had a buttery afterflavor~ Although it would have been more fruity if I charged past the gate~" Then again, a deep kiss like that would had been a little bit too much for her to do in the cinema!
"Nu-uh" Elise shook her head gently, turning toward Tetsuko with a smile, still holding her beloved knight's hand as she explained further. "I kind of want to go there to search for something~ Hehe sorry to make you tag along, but you're the best one to ask when it comes to swords." She grinned sheepishly as they left the cinema complex and returned to the streets, looking back in the direction of the station they had arrived from. As the two of them walked along the streets the girl turned toward Tetsuko once more and explained further. "I once read about it in a book..." She started, recalling how it had actually been a manga she had once read, although she was embarrassed to admit it was actually a shonen manga. "That when you cross blades with someone you can sometimes convey your emotions? Like a blade being a pure mirror of the heart and that your feelings and thoughts are conveyed clearly to the opposite side?"
She paused for a moment, stopping in her tracks as she explained further. "I... after everything that happened I realized that I don't just want to be protected. I want to be able to support you, to help you out when you need it, to give you that push in the back to give you the courage to advance, or a hand to help you upright again when you fall~ That is why I want to train, why I want to become stronger."
She raised her free hand to her cheek, scratching it lightly as she admitted with a little grin. "And I like being able to grow even closer to you through something like this. For us to see sides of each other through something you love so much." Indeed, her desire to learn swordsmanship was founded entirely in her love and adoration of Tetsuko.
"Just don't expect me to call you sensei~" The girl giggled softly as her smile faded. "But it won't be that easy... Ever since what happened before I moved to here, I haven't even been able to hurt anyone, just wielding a weapon is a nearly impossible task so I'm sure my parents will be worried, and I'll likely be so scared I'll tremble out of my socks... so."
She looked Tetsuko straight in the eyes, squeezing her hand lightly as she said the final part. "Will you please be at my side when I do it? When I take up a blade to get closer to you?"

Indeed, like Tetsuko had said before, she really didn't know her childhood friend as well as she thought she did. Or perhaps, rather, Tetsuko Shindou was just not as readily observant of the many changes the girl was undergoing. Because the Elise von Eisenberg of old would almost certainly have never wanted to search for a sword!
"Eh? You need to ask about swords?" Tetsuko repeated in disbelief. The same Eli, who so adamantly stood against violence, had become interested in the art of steel? It was initially baffling, Tetsuko's face showing all kinds of confoundment. The Germanic girl, however, quickly explained things. Apparently, she'd once read in a book that crossing blades with someone could convey emotions. Tetsuko indeed knew of this phenomenon herself, but was surprised to hear Elise had heard of it. It was said in Tetsuko's sword school that the blade was the most honest reflection of the heart, and that to understand one was to also understand the other. Naturally, it was a little strange at first, to hear Eli talk about this, but things became much clearer.
Elise was Tetsuko's lord, her lady, her princess. But within the von Eisenberg also lied desires not just to be protected; but to protect. That contentment became firmer as Tetsuko heard those words, as she heard that not only could she be a dependable beacon of security, but that Elise... Wanted to be the same to her... The trust Tetsuko valued was validated, and it brought a soft smile to her face.
Of course, Eli had her own, funnier little reason for wanting to take up a fighting art. Thinking back on the 'reflection of the heart' that came with swordplay, Elise managed to find it rather romantic, and wanted to use it to get closer to the iron-blooded girl. To be approached in something that she loved, it only managed to strengthen the foundation of Tetsuko's growing security around Elise. Bit by bit, the pain was healed, if not forgotten.
Things obviously wouldn't be simple, thanks to Elise's history, but Tetsuko had already made up her mind by the time Eli asked her that question. Her held tightly, Tetsuko gazed back into Eli's eyes with a soft and warm smile. "Of course I will. It'd be my honor." She said proudly, heart swelling with the thought of practicing the sword alongside Elise.
"I know it'll take a lot of bravery for you to learn how to use a sword, so I'll be by your side, OK? I... Want to see you get stronger too." She assured the Germanic girl. "And I gotta be honest... It excites me, getting to show you why it is I love the sword." Tetsuko continued as they walked along the street, an unwavering smile on her expression, even as her cheeks reddened and she elaborated more.
"Pl-Plus that um... Reflection of the heart thing... S-Sounds kinda... Cool..." Tetsuko admitted, a dopey grin on her face. To take two of the most important things in the world to her, swordsmanship and Elise, and to be able to enjoy them both at the same time? It sounded almost too good to be true. She smiled wistfully, still in awe at this change in the Eisenberg girl.
"You really have changed, Eli." She uttered quietly. Not a lamentation at the loss of Elise's past self... No, the tone in Tetsuko's voice made it clear what she was saying. That deep down, she believed Eli had changed, and for the better.

"Hehe it does right~ Clashing swords, exposing one's inner self to each other it sounds both cool and so romantic~" she added the last part with a girlish giggle as they approached the station, a hand raised to her chin. "I guess a Boken or a Shini would be a good idea for a weapon to practice with. I mean I don't have your expertise and don't want us to lose any fingers or toes~" she lamented softly as they continued walking together. The grin on her lips clearly made it evident just how happy and excited she currently was, no doubt because of this date, of the company she had, it even made the spectre looming over her mind become pushed to the back of her mind, even if only temporarily or partly.
A temporarily pause followed as she heard Tetsuko's words, causing her to grin briefly as she wrapped both her arms around Tetsuko and pressed her bust lightly against the girl's arm, looking up at her as she asked with a hint of curiosity and clear interest in the subject. "In what way?"
She waited for Tetsuko to answer her when finally she would have let go of the iron-blooded lass, or at least lessened her grip back to a simple but tender handholding as they arrived at the shopping mall. As they reached the mall Elise looked back at Tetsuko, a hand raised lightly toward her cheek as she pondered softly. "Say~ Tetsuko... since this is a date~" She paused for a moment and tried her best to conceal the teasing undertone of her words. "Does that make me your girlfriend, and will you be paying for the weapon?"
And then she failed, giggling softly as tears gathered in her eyes. "Just kidding~ just kidding~ At least on the last part. After your words in the train... it's fine right? For me... to call you my girlfriend? Of course, you better do the same also!" she added the last bit with a playful pout before nuzzling sideways into Tetsuko's arm.
"You know... I often dreamed of doing this with you, this entire date thing, being able to feel this type of affection~" she looked up at Tetsuko and smiled brightly at her. "Although the dream version of you can't match to the real deal, you're simply waaaaaaay too cute for that~" She hummed softly as she noticed they were arriving at the store Tetsuko had mentioned.
"Wonder if they got any cute ones~ Wait, I guess that's gonna be an impossible request. Can you help me find a good one Tetsu? Remember I'm right-handed~" her gaze drifted along the store, but she really felt out of place here. Almost like a... guy walking in a women's lingerie store! that type of bafflement as she squeezed Tetsuko's hand gently.

"I'm kinda not surprised you'd think of it that way." Tetsuko mused with a smile at Elise's continued fascination with the romanticism of swords. The more Tetsuko thought about it, the more incredibly lucky she was, to have a girlfriend who found swordsmanship romantic. Tetsuko chuckled at Eli's suggestions of a wooden practice sword, lest they end up causing undue damage. "That's fair. Should be able to find a decent bokken or shinai at the place we're headed, they've got all kinds of stuff for Japanese martial arts." The ironblooded lass explained, already looking excited and eager to display to Elise the wonderful world of swordsmanship!
Tetsuko felt a certain softness against her arm as Elise pulled in closer, curious about the Shindou girl's words. Her cheeks took on a red hue, but she tried her best not to think too much about the burgundy-haired lasses touch as she gave her answer. "It just seems like... You're stronger now. Heh, the old Eli who couldn't handle the fight scenes of our old samurai movies would never have asked me to teach her to use a sword!" Tetsuko explained with a reminiscent smile, slowly giving way to a soft and secure expression. "I guess there's just... So much more to you now... Sorry, I'm not really making sense." She lamented quietly.
Indeed, there was so much more to Elise. So much that Tetsuko was learning for the first time. Some of it... Wasn't exactly warm revelations. To learn of Elise's selfish and unfair sides, it was a lot to accept. But with it came even more aspects of the Eisenberg girl that continued to surprise and elate Tetsuko, things that made her seem less and less like her childhood friend... And instead, like something... More.
Their grip returned to more tender handholding, making it a bit less taxing for Tetsuko to keep her focus as they neared the mall. On approach, Elise suddenly had a question to ask, regarding this being a date. Her brow furrowed in curiosity, the Shindou girl's eyes widened at both the questions asked. "U-Um... I... Guess it does... B-But I don't know if I have en-" She began, scratching her cheek bashfully until Eli's little giggle made things clear. Gods, she such a tease, but Tetsuko couldn't help but smile every time.
She smiled softly as she listened to the Germanic girl's request as she nuzzled into her. "A-Alright... We are... Yeah, I guess we are dating now, aren't we? Even if we're taking things steadily. So... You're my girlfriend..." It still hadn't quite fully sunk in for Tetsuko, that her childhood friend was now her prospective romantic partner. Elise, on the other hand, seemed to be quite eager for this change, embracing it fully.
Tetsuko smiled warmly as Elise talked about her own dreams of this kind of relationship, reddening the iron-blooded girl's cheeks, especially in regards to mention of her 'cuteness'. "S-Stop that..." She said bashfully, her dopey smile making clear she couldn't quite handle how happy such comments made her. "Y-Y'know I... I didn't dream of this kind of thing, but I admit..." Tetsuko said a little guiltily, thinking back to how she'd suppressed her feelings for Elise. "I'm a fan of the surprise of how nice this is." Her smile was warm, returning Eli's own.
She hadn't planned for this, but Tetsuko found herself drawn in more and more to this new Elise. A sensation not unlike floating, gentle and kind, toward something that was surely wonderful~
Moments after that tender moment was shared, they arrived at the store, Elise asking about Tetsuko's area of expertise. Right away, the Shindou girl's eyes lit up, excited by the chance to show off her knowledge. "Well, there's a lot of options. A bokken would be easiest to find, but for beginners... A shinai is probably better. The bamboo is more flexible and forgiving than wood... Although..." A hand was brought to her chin as Tetsuko continued to geek out. "There's more variety with bokken, depending on what length you're after. What kind of sword are you after, anyway? If you wanted to take on a Western style, a fukuro shinai would be best for that..." She spoke on with knowledge and passion, barely stopping to breathe. "Ah, you'll also want sparring gear too, arm and chest guards and the like... Maybe some focus mitts as well..." By this point, Tetsuko was hopelessly deep in thought, thinking of all the possibilites of how she might induct Elise into the world of swordsmanship.

To others it might have looked odd, in the end, swordsmanship was still fighting, an act of violence but for Elise there was a romanticism to the concept of swords not because of the weapon, but because of the one that was wielding it. "Well~ It's an important part of you, and I want to learn to understand everything about you someday," Elise answered her with a tender smile, yet as their focus continued on the subject of the weapon Elise nodded her head in return. "Oh~ I shouldn't be surprised at this point, but you really are like a walking dictionary when it comes to swords," Elise remarked with a soft giggle, clearly enjoying the enthusiasm and eagerness of the iron-blooded lass.
Still, to think that she was actually able to resist her teasing efforts, the blush on the girl's cheeks showing it still had an effect, which made it all the more pleasant for her. "I think that's because we grew closer. The closer I have you by my side the stronger I feel, the more confident I get, the happier I feel." It was true, Tetsuko had always been someone she relied immensely on, in fact the only one she tended to rely on outside of her parents. "Puuh~ I'm still surprised you could handle watching The Gladiator as a child, I nearly fainted when we saw that movie while you went 'oooh' and praised the clean swing of the sword that beheaded that poor guy!" Yet as they continued their conversation she couldn't help but smile fondly. "Mhmm~ you're making more sense than you think."
It was true, the recent events had showed so much of her, of how scared she could be, of how insecure and anxious the burgundy-haired lass could be. Of her selfish and unfair aspect, it was a hard and harsh thing to learn about someone who always seemed so sweet and pure, almost without flaws. And yet? It was because Tetsuko had accepted those sides of her that she felt happier, more confident that after the things that happened they would be able to weather whatever problems the future would throw at them.
Then came that question, one she had made while looking intensely at Tetsuko. "Mhmm, we both called it a date." Elise remarked in affirmation but the last part made her grin briefly, considering her parents their job she was pretty well-off herself when it came to an allowance, and she had put aside extra recently to be able to purchase the training gear. Still, seeing Tetsuko like this was really endearing to say the least.
"hehe~" Hearing the word spoken by Tetsuko, the affirmation of their relationship her cheeks flushed up brightly, clearly happy that Tetsuko was willing to affirm her thought: they were dating, which made them lovers... girlfriends of one another. It was a warm affirmation of a bond that was exclusive for both of them, a love that was specially reserved for both of them. Did this mean that she was able to confidently and in earnest say she knew what love truly was? No, but this happiness was clearly the result of their bond.
The bashful response made Elise's smile soften at the dopey smile on her girlfriend's lips, the way she was so flustered at being called cute being quite endearing. She once heard some people say that Tetsuko was a bit of a tomboy, and Elise couldn't help but think that was merely just a bit of that 'cool' side to Tetsuko. Once you knew her a bit better you would find a lot of aspects to the girl that she considered cute and adorable.
A playful pout came upon her cheeks as Tetsuko commented she hadn't dreamed of such a thing before, but after her reply, she was quick to grin sheepishly in response. "You're forgiven~ because you helped make this an unforgettable experience for me."
It was odd, she had always dreamed about it, always longed for it but now? That feeling of them being so close was truly a blissful experience. She couldn't help but want to savor it, to enjoy this pleasant feeling forever, and bask in even more of it.
As they talked about the weaponry and equipment that Tetsuko had in mind Elise raised a had to her chin, pondering idly about the question. "Well, I'm thinking a western style might suit me the most, one with a blade I can wield in one hand." Elise explained as she nodded in agreement about the Fukuro Shinai. "My father actually knows a swordsmaster in Germany, he used to live in our town~" she explained with a sheepish smile. "I think I got enough for the gear also, hmm do we need to fit them, or how does it work?"
She approached Tetsuko while looking at the equipment she was inspecting, whispering tenderly. "Besides, no half-assed efforts, I'm trying to do this to grow closer to you, which means I'm going to charge in with full power. Hehe reminds you of someone doesn't it?" she asked with the last part earning a playful wink from her.

Elise wanted to learn everything about Tetsuko someday? For many reasons, that sentiment made the iron-blooded less exceptionally happy. After all, she herself wanted to understand her own heart, to find ways to come to terms with it without deluding and deceiving herself. So to know that Elise promised the dedication and commitment to discover the depths of the heart alongside her was no small validation. Tetsuko smiled proudly at Elise's compliment on her swordsmanship knowledge. "It's how I was raised." She declared firmly. Her father, her grandfather, and even her mother... Delicate and broken they she may be... Had all influenced Tetsuko's pursuit of the sword, a pursuit she'd now share alongside Elise.
Her heart swelled to the point of almost bursting as Elise proposed her own theory on why she'd changed. "I... I see. I'm glad and I can make you feel that way..." The Shindou girl uttered softly, unsure how much of it was true. To say that Tetsuko was behind Elise's growth and development... Surely that was an exaggeration, right? Tetsuko didn't see how she could have prompted the kindness and warmth of the Germanic girl to expand further, but at the same time, doubted Eli was lying to her. Memories of the past were brought up, and Tetsuko couldn't help but stifle a chuckle. "I remember that! You practically hid behind me for most of the fight scenes!" She recalled fondly. There was a unique solidarity, being able to share so much of her past with Elise, to whom she had no promised at least a part of her future, should they continue down this path.
Recent events had forced them to bare their ugly sides to one another, the broken and vulnerable people they were deep down. And whether or not their reasoning was sound, they had found a way to resist it, to accept the flaws of one another. Even if Tetsuko wasn't completely comfortable with everything she'd learned, time would dull the shock, as would one another's company and the continued emphasis that was placed on their true, bright selves. There was a looming gloom to the current state of things, but they had faith that if they persisted through it, they'd come out stronger than ever.
Relationships weren't something to be half-assed, after all, and if they both really wanted to commit to one another, they'd have to endure these ugly times. Getting through them was what made their feelings real. Though it was still embarassing to say, Elise was Tetsuko's girlfriend, and the acknowledgment of that fact was more than enough to help her through this. A bond exclusive to them, one they didn't even know the full extent of, nor how it had become so strong. They were young and foolish, who could say it was love? Or rather, who could say it wasn't?
The 'truth' of emotions was hard to grasp, but their sensations were undoubtedly real. Tetsuko's romantic feelings towards Elise weren't doubted anymore, even if they were painful at times, they brought such joy to her, making them so clearly real. It was, as Elise said, an unforgettable experience. Tetsuko smiled softly, wondering if one day, this would become yet another one of their 'treasured memories'.
For now, however, all she had was the present, and would not let a single moment of it go undervalued.
Moving forward to the gathering of martial arts supplies, Tetsuko nodded along sagely to Elise's further clarification. "A one-handed Western style... Yeah, a fukuro shinai might work best. They're like regular shinai in that they use bamboo, but designed so you can properly hit with all parts of the blade, a better comparison for Western swords." She'd elaborate. Elise surprised Tetsuko with the revelation of a swordmaster from her hometown. "A German swordmaster? That's awesome! Germany is the origin of some of the most well-renowned sword fighting manuals that... Yeah, it's pretty cool!" Tetsuko would burst out, restraining herself from geeking out too much.
"You'll want some shinguards and armguards, and something to protect your head, but you don't need to get them fitted, just make sure they're comfortable... Oh, you, um, might want a chestguard too..." Tetsuko said, oddly finding herself glancing away a bit with a slight reddening in her cheeks. She was simply being concerned for her girlfriend's safety, that was all!
As they inspected the equipment, Elise whispered such sweet words to Tetsuko, making more evident than ever her desire to give her all in this art. "It's familiar, yeah... But it really does make me happy, knowing you wanna give this your all..." Tetsuko whispered back fondly. Once they were done purchasing all the equipment - which Tetsuko insisted that she carry - the pair was off for perhaps another challenging part of their date... And likely an embarassing one at that!

And so the next part of their date came: their stay at the Eisenberg household. It took a short bus ride for them to reach the outskirts of Tokyo, one of the smaller but, considerably wealthier residential areas. Although she was far from a millionaire, the involvement of her parents in the pharmaceutical and medical industry had made the Eisenberg family something of an 'upper-class' family, and if not for her attitude Elise might had well been an ojou-sama! But she wasn't the only one who was a bit unique among her family.
The small villa that awaited them was always a sight that brought back pleasant memories, the way it was walled off by those finely maintained bushes, the front yard where she and Tetsuko used to play so often, she could even see the tree that she and Tetsuko had once taken a nap underneath.
So many feelings, so many memories, and many more would be forged in the present and future. Unlocking the door with her key she stepped inside, a soft raising of her voice happening "Mom~ Dad~ I'm home!" Elise hummed, and a soft mewling sound came as a response.
A Japanese bobtail cat emerged from the staircase, approaching the girl's leg and giving it a little headbutt. "Stumpie~" the girl greet her with a happy grin, scooping up the cat in her hands. "Whose been a good girl?" the cat mewled softly, giving several more head rubs against the girl's cheek while footsteps came from deeper in the hallway.
"There you are my dears, how was the trip?" It was always difficult to imagine the person who appeared from the nearby doorway to be Elise's mother. The youthful look would have made one think she might have been an elder sister, and yet that burgundy hair and the mischievous glint in her eyes was clearly something that would remind one of Elise herself. She stepped over to Elise, giving her a warm hug before turning toward Tetsuko. "Feel free to put them down here Tetsuko-chan, and come here for a moment, it's been way too long."
That overly affectionate way, to the point she gave Tetsuko a tight hug clearly made it easy to guess from who Elise had inherited part of her personality. "How you been? It's been way too long since we last had you visit~" Meanwhile Elise couldn't help but smile weakly at the enthusiasm of her mother.
"M-Mom can you let go of Tetsu already? Y-You're hugging my girlfriend." She answered with a light blush, which only coaxed a soft giggle from her mother who finally released her hold on Tetsuko and suddenly flashed her a thumbs-up sign. "So you finally succeeded in Operation: TetsuEli hmmm? And here I thought you would remain stuck in the friendzone and remain a virgin forever."
Oh gods, why now? "MOM!" Her face turning scarlet she couldn't help but find herself getting even more flustered. "hehe just kidding~ Now come inside, your father just got back from work and we were finishing preparing dinner, I'm sure you both have a lot to talk about~"
Elise's face remained red as she awkwardly rubbed her fingers together. "Sometimes I really wonder if they are doing this on purpose" she muttered in embarrassment. But at least as they entered the living room where the dining table was at Elise's father, a middle-aged man with that type of calm and gentle expression greet them, a little wave of his hand. "Just on time, your mother was making your favorite again: Turkey Snitzels with french fries and veggies, took us quite some effort to get those snitzels~ Also for you Tetsuko we prepared a little extra." He gestured at the small cookie-like snack next to one of the plates. "Had a colleague of mine ask for some help, it might look like a regular snack but it's actually pretty rich in iron, should also taste pretty good, this way you can eat with us without having to worry about your usual diet."
Kind and understanding as usual.
"So~ I heard something about dating?" Sensing alarm bells as she had just gone to wash her hands at the washing sink, she had not entirely expected that even her father would join in on the teasing as he asked Tetsuko with a grin. "Did you get the chance to kiss her yet? Or should I let you borrow some tips I got when I started dating Elise's mom?"
Someone please let her hide...

The fact you had to take a bus to get to the Eisenberg residence was, to Tetsuko, the most immediate indicator of just how wealthy the German family was. They weren't exorbitantly rich, like some kind of caricature of wealthy foreigners, but they were definitely 'upper-class'. The Eisenberg home was certainly a lot fancier than anything you'd find in the tiny coastal town of Kashima, after all! Even now, Tetsuko felt a bit self-conscious about going there, about whether or not she could conduct herself in an appropriate manner for this high-class estate!
It had been particularly amusing when she was a child, trying to live up to the presumably high standards of the Eisenberg family. Always standing up straight and tall, extending her pinky whenever she had a warm drink in hand... Of course, that illusion was broken whenever she and Eli played outside, being nothing more than simple kids yet again.
Memories continued to underpin their journey to this familiar childhood locale, those that were set already and those yet to be forged. Upon entering, Tetsuko heard Elise call out to her parents, followed by the familiar mewling of an old foe. Stumpie. Tetsuko narrowed her eyes at the cat, a warrior's address to their opponent. She'd never gotten along with cats, especially not the Eisenberg feline. "Hi, Stumpie..." Tetsuko said lowly, glaring at the cat as Elise petted it so fondly, so affectionately... Wait, she wasn't really getting jealous of a cat, was she?
That thought was broken by the arrival of the Eisenberg matriarch, a youthful young German appearing nearby to great the girls. "Hey Mrs. Eisenberg, the trip was good..." Tetsuko replied casually, suddenly tensing up and becoming a bit more self-conscious. Only now did she realize... She was kind of visiting her lovers' parents, wasn't she!? She had dealt with the Eisenberg parents before, but now their interactions had an entirely different connotation! "O-OK..." Tetsuko uttered in response to the Eisenberg mother's request, before stepping over to the woman.
The sudden tight hug caught Tetsuko off guard for a moment, but she supposed it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for an Eisenberg."Y-Yeah, I've been good..." Wasn't this hug going on a bit longer than it should?
Yes, yes it was, as Elise was quick to point out... And that's not the only thing she pointed out. Tetsuko had already foreseen that this wasn't exactly something that was going to be kept on the down low around Elise's parents. A blush was already settling into Tetsuko's cheeks, before Esperia's mother commented further and left the girl's face red as a tomato! She was flooded with embarrassment, both first-hand and second-hand: Poor Elise!
But, a devilish little part of her couldn't help but be slightly amused as Elise got flustered herself. Once Elise's mother ushered them into the next room, Tetsuko couldn't help but comment. "Looks like you've got a superior in teasing, hm?" Tetsuko teased, a sympathetic tinge to her tone. Elise lamented that they had to be doing this on purpose, to which Tetsuko just smiled empathetically at her. "If they're anything like my Grandma... They definitely are."
Entering the living room, they'd approach the dining table where the Eisenberg father sat. The kind German man revealed today's meal, even having something prepared for Tetsuko. "Ah, thank you, sir." Tetsuko said stoically, still feeling pretty self-conscious about her current situation. She didn't mention that it was just as easy for her to simply have a few more of her iron supplements in the evening, not wanting to discredit the kind man's considerate work. Taking her seat at the table, Tetsuko was about to reach for the 'cookie' when bigger matters suddenly arose.
No matter how kind and gentle a man he might be, it was natural to be nervous talking to your lover's father...
She hung her head, feet tapping anxiously on the ground as the Eisenberg father asked his question. "U-Um, n-no thank you sir I ... Um, don't need any tips sir and um..." Tetsuko had fought trained swordsmen in the past, and even than, she hadn't felt this nervous. "Y-Yes I did kiss her..." Honest as ever, Tetsuko admitted the truth, looking down at the floor with a face of scarlet.
Someone please let her hide...

Poor Elise pouted in response to Tetsuko's comment. "Shush you, someday I'll surpass her and then you'll have to truly watch out." She answered with a sheepish smirk yet when they advanced to the next subject, one that she was quite fond of Elise nodded her head eagerly in return. From the times she had met Tetsuko's grandma it wouldn't be an understatement that Elise was the most fond of her, or at least got along the best with her. There was a certain sense of mutual understanding that teasers had, a type of kinship?
As she took her seat at Tetsuko's side and pressed her fork into the meat she listened to the back and forth between her lover and her father. Meanwhile Elise's father seemed quite interested in Tetsuko's reaction, the mentioning of not needing any tips seemingly surprising him somewhat, but that surprise soon turned into a grin. "I see~ Good! If there is one thing I learned then it is that being honest and clear with your feelings is important. Nothing conveys that better than a kiss."
He answered sagely as Elise looked slightly worried at Tetsuko, she was about to say something when her father spoke up in her place. "Relax Tetsuko, considering all the things you done for our little Eli you're just as much a part of our family as anyone else in this room. Consider our home, your home. Besides, I am truly glad to hear about this. Elise deserves someone who genuinely cares about her, and I can't imagine anyone more suited than her little iron knight, right?" He answered with a smirk while Elise who had just been chewing some french fries nodded her head eagerly in agreement. Good! at least her parents approved of their relationship.
Reaching for the glass of apple juice she brought it to her lips when her father suddenly spoke up. "Besides, if you're that anxious just from kissing her, then how will you deal with sleeping next to her." Sleeping next to--- "PRTFT!" a weird sound came from the girl as she quickly ingested her drink and exclaimed in a panic "W-Wait w-what do you mean?!"
Her father tilted his head slightly to the side in confusion as he asked calmly. "Hmm? you two did it so often when you were little, to the point you refused to sleep without a Tetsuko plushie after she went back home." Please don't bring up such embarrassing details! Her mother seemingly had seen an opportunity to strike also, her smile speaking bookparts. "Unfortunately the guest room is undergoing renovations currently, and since you know the little war between Tetsuko-chan and Stumpie..."
Good point, sleeping on the Sofa wouldn't be an option either. "Besides, are you that opposed to the idea?" The question was enough to make her face turn red once more, lowering her gaze as she muttered just loud enough for Tetsuko to hear her. "No... I... kind of like the idea of falling asleep in her arms again."
Meanwhile Elise, turned toward Tetsuko and she whispered softly. "Tetsu, sit still for a moment~" she whispered tenderly, leaning closer, a finger gently reaching for the girl's cheek, a tender brush wiping some of the ketchup from Tetsuko's cheek as she brought her fingertip to her lips and licked it off. "Hehe you had some ketchup on your cheek~ you really must be hungry."
This feeling... "Mai~ Mai~" danger, red alert "Eli, you should have taken the chance to use your tongue instead, such a wasted opportunity~"
. .. ...
POOF, her face red she was clearly outplayed at the mental thought of her mistake, unable to say or do anything as her mother snickered softly.

[Elise was adorable when she pouted. That was something Tetsuko had known about her childhood friend even before they'd become something more. "I'll have to be on guard at all times, won't I?" She said with a sheepish chuckle at Elise's comment, already looking forward to it. Of course, her own little attempts at teasing Eli wouldn't go on for much longer, considering the tense situation she'd find herself in.
As she quietly hung her head, Tetsuko began cutting into her own meal, face still scarlet all the way up to her ears. Fortunately, he displayed approval for the revelation, proclaiming his own thoughts on the kiss that very much mirrored Elise's. "H-Happy to please, sir..." Tetsuko stuttered out, anxiously nibbling at the cookie she'd been given. This wasn't exactly a scary or intimidating scenario, but a nerve-wracking one nonetheless, as Tetsuko was aware that saying the wrong thing could turn out very badly!
But, luckily, she had no cause for concern. Breathing a sigh of relief at his assurance that she was in their good graces, Tetsuko found herself blushing in a softer manner as a warm feeling brewed within her. The validation and acceptance of the Eisenberg family as a suitable partner for their daughter meant a lot to the classically-minded Tetsuko. While she wasn't looking for their blessing or anything on only their first date, it was still nice to hear. "Thank you..." The Shindou girl uttered with a dignified nod of her head. Maybe this wasn't so nerve-wracking after all.
Or maybe it was.
Though the red hue had been removed from Tetsuko's visage, it would return post-haste. Tetsuko had been taking a bit of the schnitzel when he'd said those words, and almost choked on it as he did! The sudden jolt of her body sent some ketchup onto her cheek, which she didn't yet notice. Cheeks brightly flushed, Tetsuko looked to Eli in a panic over what had just been said, before things were clarified... Embarrassingly...
"Pl-Plushie?" She stammered out, both curious on the matter, and not wanting to know any more of the embarassing details! The teasing continued, with Elise's mother chiming in to point out the guest room was undergoing reservations. The sofa wasn't going to be an option for sleeping arrangements either, thanks to Tetsuko's fierce rivalry with a cat. In her defence, Stumpie started it.
Her heart started beating a bit quicker as Tetsuko realized she was going to be sharing a bed with Elise that night. Not for any more adult things that might occur, no, she figured neither of them was about to jump to that on a first date! But rather... Tetsuko's heart quickened because it just sounded so tender. It sounded nice. And Elise shared the sentiment, her soft words like an angel's hymn to Tetsuko. "Then I... Guess you won't need your plushie tonight." Tetsuko said back softly, smiling warmly at the Germanic lass.
Right after, Elise noticed the ketchup that had ended up on Tetsuko's cheek, raising a finger to brush it off. "Oh, hehe... Thanks..." Tetsuko uttered a little embarrassedly, before a sudden interjection by Elise's mother made Tetsuko more than a little embarrassed!
Gods, if Elise had actually used her tongue... In front of her parents, no less! It seemed the Germanic girl's mother really did outclass her daughter, and Tetsuko feared the day Elise might surpass her!
