Another slow, vapid day. Nick’s mind was absent as he strode away from the arcade, navigating his way through the crowds without so much as a glance at people’s faces. Crowds did irritate him, however, so he chose the quieter route through the backstreets. He did not mind that this would take longer. He was not exactly in a rush to get back to Yuuei.
“This is our territory, freak!”
The vicious snarl made Nick pause in his tracks. It came from his left, and at first he thought it was directed at him, the disc on his back beginning to itch. When he turned to look, however, he saw that it was not. What greeted him instead was a sight he had seen before and would no doubt see again. A gang of about four rough-looking youths with piercings and tattoos gathered around another youth who had the head of a horse and hooved feet to match.
“Yeah, no freaks allowed in this part of town!” barked another one of the young thugs.
The horse-headed youth was visibly shaking.
“I’m sorry!” he cried out. “I didn’t know! Please, I just want to get by!”
Another youth shoved the horse-boy in the chest, almost knocking the kid over, but a different youth moved behind him so that he rebounded off them instead.
“Did your dad fuck a horse or what?” the youth that had shoved him remarked, making the others snicker.
“Y’know, I heard they used to make glue outta horses,” said another. “Anyone wanna see how that was done?”
Nick stepped closer to the alleyway they were in, though did not intervene. Oh, he hated the sight, with every millimetre of his body and soul, but this was not his fight. It was the horse-boy’s. Horses were known for kicking extremely hard. The boy could fight back, if he were truly as strong as his Quirk meant him to be. Nick willed him to as he stood there, to crush these Quirkless like the inferior beings they were.

Nari had decided to take it easy today, no sense trying to do anything that would catch the attention of some unwanted onlookers. Nari had decided to do her mother a favor and go out grocery shopping for the week since they were low on a few things back at home, Nari's favorite sour candies just to name something. She always made sure not to leave the house without a small notepad and a pencil, just in case someone might ask her something passing by on the street. The brunette always thought it was fun to fool others into thinking she was mute, it was like playing a game that only she knew the secret behind.
The mutant girl went into the shopping district, wearing one of her favorite sundresses, she liked this one especially because it showed off her collarbones and it had pockets, with her hair tied back into it's signature bun. She passed by a few stores on her way to the grocery center until she heard a small commotion coming from one of the alleyways Nari was prone to visiting in the nighttime. A frown found it's way onto the brunette's face when she saw what appeared to be a gang of men surrounding a fellow youth, one of which with a horse for a head. She couldn't bear to watch as a fellow mutant was getting harassed by non-mutants. It wasn't as if she hated those that were not mutants, she just preferred mutants more in general. Nari couldn't stand to watch for another moment, walking forward and soon approaching the group of taller men. Nari quickly wrote a note down before tapping one of the men on the back, trying to get his attention.
"The hell?" The man said as he turned around and saw the angry brunette behind him. "Heh, what's a cutie like you doing in a place like this?" the man said before turning his gaze towards the notepad. "What's this now, cat got your tongue or something~" he said before looking at the note which read 'I don't appreciate what you're doing. You'd better stop before you regret it'. The man chuckled and ripped the note from her notepad. "Hey fellas, look what the little lady is trying to tell us~" he said showing the other gang members her note. The horse headed mutant was clearly shaking in his shoes, his eyes looking over to the brunette as he tried to get away from the group. Nari would take action if necessary, although it was rather dangerous to use her quirk without getting found out.

Still the horse-boy did not fight back. Disappointment and disgust twisted Nick’s heart. Disappointment in the horse-boy for not fighting, disgust because if the horse-boy was content to be abused by those weaker than him, then he was weak, too. Nick had little patience for the weak.
Nick was about to walk away when a newcomer entered the fray from the opposite side to him. It was a girl who looked to be in her teens herself. He could not yet tell if she had a Quirk, for if she did she had yet to demonstrate it.
Evidently she could not speak, either, from the way she wrote her words on a note one of the thugs promptly sneered at and shredded. If the girl had a Quirk at all, now would be the time to use it, Nick thought.
Instead it was the horse-boy who acted, right as Nick had written him off. He let out a cry that sounded much like a panicked wail than anything fearsome and unleashed a kick with those powerful horse-legs right at the nearest thug.
The thug went down like a sack of concrete. His brethren acted immediately, lunging not just at the horse-boy but the girl as well. Now Nick saw fit to act. The horse-boy had proven he could fight back, and these thugs with their anti-Quirker attitude pissed Nick off. He ran straight at the first thug he saw and drove his elbow into their jaw.

Nari's face scrunched up hearing the cry from the horse-headed youth. She tried blocking out the noise, keeping her hands free in case she needed to fight. She watched as he used his strength to kick one of the thugs legs out, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground on his face. Looks like that perfect smile of his was forever ruined. Nari knew that with one of their comrades down, the thugs would act fast in trying to restrain her and the other youth. Thankfully, she knew some martials arts so she could protect herself without using her quirk.
Nari watched as one thugs came rushing towards her, ducking under his arms to avoid capture. For once she was grateful for her small stature. As she was preparing to get the man who had tried to rush her, another character came into play, this one, however, seeming to take her side as the noir haired male sent the thug to the ground, his elbow colliding with the taller man's jaw. His face looked pretty ridiculous, pretty amusing to the brunette but now was not the time to worry about that. She had to help fight back, prove to the two that she was on their side.
Nari hopped up onto one of the closed dumpsters and used her height to her advantage, swinging her leg out and kicking one thug in the jaw, sending him flying backwards but not completely down just yet. Nari watched him approach again and jumped off of the trash can and tackled him to the ground, the thug's head making contact with the hard ground below. As for one more effective blow, the brunette found the man's pressure point located on the back of his neck, pressing against it and watched as the man struggled to stay conscious. Too bad for him, with her current position on top of him, his hands were held down, leaving him defenseless under him, soon losing consciousness underneath the brunette. She completely forgot about the horse headed man and the black haired civilian who had showed up to fight. She looked up to see how they were fairing with the remaining thugs.

Nick did his best to observe the horse-boy and newcomer girl as he exchanged blows with the same thug he had elbowed. The girl had some impressive combat ability, he would give her that, but he still had yet to see any Quirk from her. He wondered if she were Quirkless. Then again, her inability to speak might have had something to do with her Quirk; it was possible she had a voice loud enough to topple buildings or some kind of mutated tongue.
The horse-boy, on the other hand, was clearly no fighter and was already backing off. Nick’s thoughts about him were halted as the thug managed to land a solid punch to the side of his face. He stumbled back a bit, but managed to stay on his feet. He grimaced, secretly grateful the blow had not been hard enough to break anything, and retaliated by kicking the thug’s legs out from under them. He stomped on the thug’s neck and applied enough pressure to slowly begin choking them. As he did this, he glared down at the thug as though they were less than rubbish.
“None of you have any idea what you’re dealing with,” he growled. “This area doesn’t belong to you. Nothing belongs to your kind anymore.”
The other thugs were already scrambling away with their tails between their legs. Nick stepped off the thug beneath him, who gasped and hacked for a moment before scurrying after his friends.
Nick was quiet for a moment, taking deep breaths as adrenaline still raged through him. He glanced at the horse-boy, who was looking at Nick was as much fear as one of the thugs.
“Get out of here,” was all Nick said.

Nari stood up once the fight was over and brushed herself off, soon finding a small tear towards the bottom of her dress. The brunette frowned but figures she could repair her dress when she got home. Stupid thugs, ruining her shopping trip. Nari reached into her pocket and found her notepad had still been inside, not taken by the idiotic thugs. She then turned her attention towards the two males close to the entrance of the alley way, the noirette seeming to bark an order at the horse head individual, using a similar tone to that the thugs had used on him.
Nari took out her notepad and wrote a quick message before going over to the horse headed male. She looked at him and smiled before showing him her message, 'It is alright now, thank you for being brave in a situation this scary. Please go home and rest your nerves.' The horse headed male read the note before looking at the brunette, softly bowing in thanks for her helping him. "I-I don't know w-what I would have done without you t-two heroes, thank y-you!" he said with a shaky smile. Nari grinned and pat the man's head before watching him leave the alley way and go back into the daylight. Nari thought it was quite funny the other assumed she was a hero, but that situation she supposed she seemed like one...disgusting. The thought nearly made her cringe.
Nari looked down at her notepad and wrote another message before turning towards the taller male and showing him what she had written, 'I suppose this is thanks for stepping in when you did. The extra manpower came in use to help us claim victory for ourselves.' Nari looked up at the other, seeing the burning rage emanate from his very person, waiting for his reply to her message.

Nick felt the urge to chase down the thugs, the disc-growth on his back twitching with eagerness, but he resisted. He remained silent as the horse-boy expressed his gratitude. Not that the praise was not enjoyable, but the horse-boy should have fought back more…
When the horse left, the newcomer girl remained. Nick still did not know if she was Quirkless or not. He was uncertain what to make of her, if anything. He frowned a little at the note she showed him.
“He should have been able to handle them himself,” he answered. “But whatever; it’s done. It would be nice to think the scum learned their lesson.” That being that they were the inferior ones, that challenging those with Quirks was destined to end in painful failure, that their kind’s dominance in the world was slipping. He let out an almost wistful-sounding sigh and shrugged. “Then again, scum like them rarely do.”
His curiosity got the better of him despite it all and he found himself narrowing his eyes slightly at the girl, whoever she was. “So, any particular reason for those notes? Is it something to do with your Quirk or what? No offense but it’s somewhat hard to believe a Quirkless would rush into danger to defend a Quirker so readily.” It went against everything he had been taught growing up. The notes had to be because of her Quirk, he figured.

The way this boy talked seemed to intrigue the brunette, he did sound like a hero but his words posed a darker meaning than what the ears may initially hear. Talking about inferiority and 'scum' was almost as if he were speaking like a villain. She wasn't too sure about him so she'd keep him under her watch for now. Who knows, he may be fun to keep around as a plaything of sorts.
Nari blinked once she heard the other's question, she figured he would ask about her quirk since she did not show it off. Then again, he did not show his quirk off either so she supposed they were even in that aspect. Nari wrote down another message, putting a little thought into it before showing the noirette standing in front of her, 'I was born a mute. It has nothing to do with my quirk as I didn't develop it until I was older. Strange how simple things like this are still prevalent in a world full of quirks.' Nari couldn't tell him the truth, she didn't trust him enough to reveal her secret. The only ones that knew about her game were her parents and a few of her father's buddies, other than those few, non knew of her secret silent game.
She heard his second question and wrote a response for that too but she also wrote a question of her own. She couldn't let this kid have all the fun now. 'I could say the same for you. I didn't see you use any quirk to fight those ruffians now. It's not nice to keep secrets now~' The brunette smiled up at the other, quite interested to see how the other would react to her messages.

Ah. A mute. Nick also found it curious how such disabilities continued to exist when Quirks were the next stage of human evolution. Still, at least she had a Quirk. Now things made more sense.
At her remark about his own Quirk, he smirked a little and lightly shrugged his shoulders. “It’s not exactly within school regulations to use our Quirks off campus. Especially not on civilians.” Were it not for such regulations, however, perhaps he would have. Hell, if the fight had gone on any longer and become more fearsome he might have had no choice, or it may have engaged all on its own. He could not always control when it activated; it tended to do so when his emotions ran high enough.
He glanced down at a hand and flexed his fingers as he continued, imagining it in its powered state; “But if I had, those scumbags would have had a much worse time. My Quirk is armour, you see, that boosts my body and makes me stronger in every way.”
He looked back at her, and though the smirk remained, his eyes narrowed somewhat. “Now then; I’ve told you what my Quirk is. What about yours?”

Nari listened carefully to what Nick had to say, talking about how under school regulations he was not allowed to use his quirk. Such shame really, a school denying students of using their quirks in public. How would they ever be found out if no one knew about them and what they could do? She remembered going to school but it wasn't a hero academy, she had been home schooled by her mother just so she could say she graduated with a high school degree. She didn't need any of the fancy gizmos that hero schools came with, all she needed were the academics and lessons learned from a school itself. Nari wrote something else down before showing it to the other, 'Such a shame we cannot show our quirks off in public. It would be rather interesting to see them in action but school regulations and everything come first.'
Nari nodded when she heard the noirette's quirk, so armor was his deal. Practically covering his body in metal to enhance his abilities, Nari would make a mental note of that for later. When asked what her quirk was, Nari had written something down before showing it to the other, 'I wouldn't say it's that much. My quirk gives me similarities to that of a snake. Apart from my green, almost sickly skin and my unusual facial structure, I am very agile, quite flexible, and have a decent amount of grip strength like a snack would have.' Nari had to lie about her quirk, but the other didn't have to know that.

Nick waited patiently for the girl to scribble her answer. While the first page she showed him was not the answer he expected, merely a comment on the fact they could not use the Quirks in public, he nodded his head in definite firm agreement.
“Quite right.” It was all the fault of the authorities being Quirkless, that Nick was sure of. Even Yuuei’s principal was Quirkless. If the Quirked were in charge then it would not be so. A dark shadow seemed to fall over Nick as he continued; “It’s like telling us we can’t use our arms in public. Our Quirks are a natural part of who we and we should be allowed to treat them as such.” He let out another wistful sigh, but this time the wistfulness was a lot more genuine. “Perhaps one day.” If he had his way, that day would eventually come.
He frowned for a moment at her next note as he scrutinised every detail of her body more closely. He wondered how he could have missed that she too was a mutant. That would certainly explain why she rushed to defend her fellow mutant Quirk user, at any rate.
Nick decided not to bother her for more detail about her Quirk, however; it was not like she was one of his classmates. He doubted he would ever see her again. So, instead, he shrugged and flashed her a smile. “It’s so nice to have an actual civil conversation for once.” Even if it was unusual because of the way the girl communicated. “I haven’t had as many as you’d think since I started at Yuuei. It’s been a welcome change, but I suppose I should return now. If we’re not back on campus by a certain time they send the search parties out.”
He began to walk away, but raised a hand to her. “Best of luck to you.” Whoever she was.

Nari nodded with a smile, a civil conversation hmm? Sure it may seem like that, two fellow civilians talking as if it were nothing. She was quite surprised to hear the other went to U.A., giving out info like that to someone who could use it to her advantage. Nari took her notepad out once more and began writing down something before showing the other. 'Yuuei huh? It must have been rather challenging to get into a top school like that. I'm sure it took quite a bit of effort to get accepted.' She wasn't quite sure how normal high schools worked so she assumed that's how one got in. She wondered if her life might have turned out different if she went to high school instead of being home schooled....she doubted it. She doubted anything could have changed her life so drastically as to make her stop what she was doing now.
Before she could ask anything else, the noirette began walking away, as if ending the conversation there just when it was getting good. Nari quickly wrote down another note before rushing back in front of him and holding her notepad in his face. 'Surely you are not heading back now just when the conversation has started? It's not nice to keep a lady intrigued and then leave her in the dust. It's quite a nice day out, so why don't we continue our conversation somewhere less menacing? It is the weekend after all, what's a little harm in spending the day away from campus?' Nari looked up at the other and blinked, hoping he read her message and would change his mind about going back so early. Who spends an hour in town on the weekend to only go back and spend the rest of the day locked up in ones room?

Nick had assumed all interactions with the snake girl were over and done with. He was quite surprised, then, when she ran around in front of him and thrust forward a note for him to read with what he thought was a lot of eagerness.
He blinked a bit at her words. Was she coming onto him? It almost sounded like she was asking him out – maybe? He did not exactly have much experience with such matters. Or any experience. Why did he think she was? Of course she was not. He was not even sure of how old she was compared to him; she looked around his age, but being a mutant her looks could be deceiving.
He briefly shook his head to dismiss such absurd thoughts. Where had such thoughts come from in the first place? Ugh, never mind that.
“Do you have anywhere in particular in mind?” he asked.
He wondered what she could possibly want from him and where they could go. Maybe somewhere Mutant Quirkers hung out? He liked his privacy and would have very much preferred to have been allowed to continue off alone, but her interest in him had him curious as to what she could want. “I suppose if not there’s the shopping centre or something…”

Nari hadn't given much thought to where they should continue their conversation. She just thought to take it out of the alleyway and somewhere where people wouldn't get suspicious. Two people talking in an alleyway typically meant something shady was going on. Nari thought for a few moments before writing something down in her notepad before showing the other, 'Well, for one we should leave the alleyway, wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea now. Maybe we could go to a cafe to continue our chat? I know quite a few good cafes around here. One of my favorites happens to have the most intricate china sets that I've ever seen. They're pretty breathtaking if you ask me. We could enjoy some tea, or coffee if you prefer and perhaps a pastry of some kind if you enjoy those sorts of things. If not...'
Nari thought for a little longer, pulling her notepad back to finish writing her message before turning her notepad back around to show Nick what she had written. 'We could go to the park if you wish. We could take a stroll and continue our chat since the weather is nice today. If you would rather we do something else, that is fine by me. My name is Nari by the way. I don't believe I caught your name after the fight,' the message read. Nari smiled up at the noirette, her pink lips never faltering from her signature smile.

Nick shoved his hands in his pockets, his mouth a thin line as he made an ‘mm’ sound. Truthfully, he just wanted to be left alone. But at the same time he was curious what she wanted from him, and maybe he did need to start having actually positive interactions with people to stop himself from going insane…
“A café might be nice, I suppose,” he said at last. “And my name is Nick. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Nari.”
He did not get far to any cafés, however.
“Hey!” called a voice.
The voice belonged to none other than the same horse-boy they had rescued. The horse-boy was smiling and waving as he ran towards them as though they were his best friends. Nick stopped as the horse-boy reached them.
“We, uh, we wanted to thank you for helping me,” the horse said. “You guys pretty much saved my life. Can you come with me, please?”
“Who’s ‘we’?” Nick asked, narrowing his eyes.
Even though he doubted the horse-boy was in any way a threat, his upbringing had made him automatically suspicious of any groups.
“My friends and me,” replied the horse-boy. “We live together. It’s easier for us that way. Safety in numbers and all that. I shouldn’t have come out alone, to be honest.”
Ah. Nick suddenly felt he understood.
“I suppose there’s no harm in it,” he said with a shrug. He glanced at Nari. “If you’re okay with following him…”
The horse-boy’s face lit up in delight.
“Awesome!” he cried and scampered to the end of the street towards none other than an open manhole. “We’re just down here!”
And just like that, Nick wanted to die.
“You’re fucking kidding me,” he cried.
