Dax let out a heavy sigh as he stared out at the park from where he sat on a decorative half-wall. He had graduated from UA yesterday and, while it was pretty exciting to get out into the real world and be a hero, the actual graduation ceremony hadn't gone exactly as he had hoped. Only his dad had shown up to support him. He knew his mom would never be there, standing in the "epicenter of evil" as she called it. His aunt was too busy with work to get the day off, so it was just his dad. However, also as expected, his mom showed up at their house during his celebratory dinner to make sure her oh-so-important opinion was known.
The screaming match that ensued was still fresh in Dax's mind today, sitting on the low wall and watching the world go by. He told his dad he needed some air, which was perfectly understandable, so he had grabbed his bag and headed out. He had gotten a coffee from a shop nearby and took a sip as he continued to be lost in his recollection. His time at UA had been mostly uneventful. He still had to fight tooth and nail to stay out of the General Studies course - it was his amazing academic grades that kept him out - but he did get slightly more comfortable with his own Quirk. That's not to say he was planning on totally relying on it during his hero career, but there were a few instances where it came in handy. Those cases proved his worth, so to speak. And it's not like he never trained his Quirk or focused on it at all, he just didn't want it to be his main focus. He didn't want to have his career be sequestered to observational detective work.
The one amazing thing that happened during his time at school was when he met Yusaku. He hadn't even told his dad about what happened that day, when his mind blended seamlessly with another person's and together, they became an entirely new entity. Two people, existing and functioning perfectly as one. He missed that feeling, that connection, that unity as one. Maybe he wouldn't feel so broken and empty inside with Yusaku there in his head.

Thankfully for Dax, it would seen he wasn't going to remain alone for long. Trailing on the edge of the park, where the roads met with the buildings surrounding it, Yusaku was taking a stroll after being done with his morning routine patrol. The Pro-Hero would stop by one of the bigger antennas and lean on it as he scanned the park, black body and glowing green plates and all. Didn't take him long for his facial recognition software to pick his known acquaintance from the crowd. It took his brain even less time to pull up his UA file and find out he had indeed graduated. Yusaku couldn't help but smile. He did it, just like he said he would.
It would take him a minute or two to jump down from his position and get through the park so that he could intercept and meet the boy. It had been a while since they saw eachother. Not too too long, but judging by his estimates on Dax's slightly increased height, it had been a good while.
"So..." He chimed as he slowly walked up to the wall, tail swishing about in a relaxed manner as he made himself known. If he had a mouth he would be grinning. "It's been a while, huh?" He would tease, hand on hip and all the swagger. "I heard someone made it out of the hero course. Congratz!" The robot stated, giving the boy a thumbs up.

The voice suddenly entering Dax's space made his head shoot up. He knew that electronic voice anywhere. "Yusaku..." He breathed, a smile of relief curling his lips. However, that smile didn't really reach his eyes. He still was holding onto that baggage that his mom carried with her. "Y-yeah I did. I'm not the official hero Silver Shot." There was the faintest flicker of pride in himself that didn't really match the words he was saying. He should really be happier about this, but he couldn't. "But I haven't really done any official hero work yet. Unless you can call this patrolling and observing the population." A gloved hand reached out to gesture to the park in front of him before moving up to nervously scratch the back of his head. His hand would then lower back into his lap as he turned his olive gaze back on his robotic friend.
"And how have you been? I'm sorry I haven't kept in contact with you. I just figured you'd be too busy with hero work and that's more important." Yes he was calling himself less important than hero work, the greater good, but of course he was. Hopefully the other didn't catch the off-hand self-drag. "Besides I have no idea if you had a phone. Can robots even use phones? That was a dumb question." He regretted asking it as soon as he had.
He let out a small sigh, head dropping a bit before looking back up. Nope, he wasn't going to let his negativity ruin this reunion. "I missed you though. I missed...us."

Yusaku gently face pawed. With a snap of his fingers he had Dax's phone ring a few times to show his point. "I'm a robot, Dax. the phone is in my head." He teased, chuckling. He still seemed to have that low self esteem problem, but at least now he seemed at least a little more happy about himself.
"Hero work is hero work. Doesn't change the fact that you can call me once or twice you know." The robot stated. "Plus you're a hero now too, so you no longer have any excuse to avoid me!" Yusaku snickered at his own joke. He didn't expect the last thing coming out of the boy's mouth. He missed...us? Well, that was something. Usually he was the one longing for connection. Still, the same was true for him though.
He raised his paws up and invited Dax to drop down from his perch. Once the boy was on level with him, the robot gently moved a paw to his chest at tapped it a couple times. "...wanna try it again?" He whispered. There was nothing else that would need to be said. It most probably was all Dax would really need to get his point. Yusaku too was happy to see him and was willing to indulge him with his need. He too desired to experience their fusion again.
If this was to be a reunion, then it should be a proper reunion in all regards.

Dax chuckled. "Well yeah, but 'can I have the number to your head' isn't something I'm used to asking people. And I wasn't avoiding you!" He shot back, but his tone was lighthearted and teasing. Tipping back his head, he drained the last of his coffee before hopping off the wall. The tap to his chest made him stop and think. "What, right here?" He tipped his head towards the populated park. Even though they lived in a strange, superhuman-filled world, he somehow felt self-conscious about fusing in public, but he was a hero now. He should get used to people staring.
Still, as much as he wanted to throw himself into Yusaku's body and experience that perfect bliss of a union, he hesitated. Once they merged, they would share everything. Every thought, memory, and emotion, and the memories and emotions Dax still had from yesterday clung to him tightly. A dark cloud of misery that his mother brought with her everywhere.
"I do, don't get me wrong, but..." his words trailed off as he tossed his cup into a nearby trashcan. "My graduation wasn't the happiest day it could've been. Family drama happened and I'm still a little upset about it." He leaned back against the wall. "I just don't want you to be bombarded and overwhelmed with all of that if we merge."
His mother was a narcissistic, close-minded, toxic person who had a habit of sucking away all of Dax's joy when she decided to force herself back into his life for the sole purpose of further scorning him. He wanted to protect Yusaku from that for as long as he could.

Yusaku folded his paws on his chest. "...remember the first time we merged?" He asked, looking around absentmindedly. "I'm pretty sure you've still got my memories inside your noggin." The robot walked close and booped Dax's forehead like the way he did back in school. "You've seen my stuff. I've seen yours. If anything, I feel those kind of memories are what brought our union about."
He paused, leaning beside his friend.
"We both want to belong. In a way or another. Now, I am not here to force you or anything, but I doubt those new memories of yours will get in our way. I wouldn't think any less of you for it." He punctuated his words by grabbing Dax's hand, if somewhat shyly, and gave it a light squeeze.
"No point in beating ourselves up over bad stuff. Besides considering how happy we felt when we merged together I'd reckon it's the best gift I can give ya for graduation." Yusaku said with a nod. "Though I reckon this time we should try to hold our fused form together instead of just have it happen by chance. Even still, we should both be way better at it now."
Yusaku's ears perked up.
"Oh right! I forgot!" Yusaku exclaimed, turning over to Dax. "I wanted to give you a Pilot Suit last time we met, but I hadn't it ready in time. You should try that too, even though you don't like body tight stuff. If anything it makes it easier for you to wear me and easier for me to connect to you since I have less clothes interfering with my sensors to worry about."

Dax closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the wall as he listened to his friend talk, as he remembered their first time. He chuckled at the forehead boop. "Yeah..." He was right. They both wanted to belong. Yusaku wanted to feel like a real human, have those real human connections. He was a robot, but he was so much more than that. And Dax wanted to find somewhere or someone who accepted him for who he was. Someone who saw his value as a person and as a hero. The feeling of a metallic hand slipping into his and squeezing caused Dax's eyes to flutter open and look down at their two hands. He knew they could be so much closer than just holding hands, but he now had one more year of schooling and graduation under his belt, new ideas and thoughts about himself.
The mention of the Pilot suit made Dax's stomach do weird things. He was both excited and happy about this future together, but in a way, it felt like his autonomy was being taken away. He couldn't be a hero on his own, he had to be Silverpaw.
"Thank you for thinking of me, but I don't know if I can take it." He looked away, now staring straight ahead at the greenery in front of them. "I have my own hero suit. My own support item, my own identity. I still want to try to make it as Silver Shot even if if turns out to be a pointless venture. I loved the first time that we merged, but I've been able to learn so much since then. About myself, about my Quirk. I resisted going into General Studies so much because I couldn't stand the idea of being in someone else's shadow. I wanted and still want to be a hero standing on my own two feet. I want to be Silverpaw, but I want to be my own person too. I'm sorry..."

"No, that is not what I meant. You SERIOUSLY need to stop this self deprecating attitude. It's not good for you and it's not good for the people you save." Yusaku was quick on the rebuttal. He hopped in front of Dax and poked his chest. "I said PILOT suit. Not HERO suit. A hero suit is used to do hero work and look good while doing it. A pilot suit is something you use so it's easier for us to be together. It helps you wear me without running the risk of ripping your clothes. It also reduces friction, which means you end up being able to move better and it lets me connect my haptic sensors better so I can relay what I feel to you better."
Yusaku sighed, shaking his head. "It's like comparing apples to oranges. There is nothing to compare in the first place. They might both be suits, but their similarities end there." He wanted to conclude the arguement there, but another thought popped up his mind.
"Also why the hell would you think you'll be in my shadow? I'm a support hero. My job is literally to help other heroes do their job better. If anything, I'm the guy leeching off people's glory by virtue of being a glorified talking hunk'a junk!"

"Now look at who's got a self-deprecating attitude." He shot back as he pushed himself up from the wall to stand face to face with him, glaring up into those digital eyes. Dax hated how they were fighting now. All he did was lay out his concerns and worries, he thought he had done a pretty good job saying what was on his mind in a calm, neutral way. Yet here Yusaku was, reassuring him in more of a conflictive way. His mom did something similar. "I'd be in your shadow because it would be your face people would recognize. Even though you changed appearance that one time, people see a robotic cat running around they think of Cybrex."
He took a step back, closing his eyes so he could breath, calm down, run his hand through his hair. "Look...Izumi," he figured it'd be fine if he used his first name. They had literally been in each other's minds, the traditional Japanese etiquette didn't really matter. "This is just a really complex situation. I mean you probably had Pilots before, but I'm still figuring this out. There's gonna be a lot of things we need to plan and figure out."
He let out a heavy sigh, leaning forward to rest his chin on Yusaku's hard-shelled chest. "I'm sorry if I upset you. I just don't want it to feel like I can't try to be Silver Shot. Like there's no point trying when we have this. I mean, we're both support heroes, but we can still work autonomously without each other, getting our own things done. I don't want you to be my new hero costume. You're more than that."
He had no idea if he was making any of this better. He could just be making this worse. "The two halves can still function as two halves...just becoming whole when a little extra power is needed. That make sense?"

Yusaku waited for the other guy to be done. He could understand his plight. He really could. Still though, he was failing to see the bigger picture. He was assuming that they had to always do things together. He also assumed that no one would know about him. In the end, it looked like Dax really just wished to stand out.
Yusaku patted Dax's shoulder as the guy leaned on his chest. "I didn't say you can't be you. But you also don't need to shy away from help and have it feel like you're not important. I would talk examples, but if we do end up merging you'd just gain my memories and feel it first hand so it's kind of redundant."
He paused for a moment. "I don't really care about fame. My job as a hero is help people. Cutesy models and playboys can have all the limelight. Even then, I usually do most of my stuff during the night when people sleep. Either way, you don't have to feel forced to do heroing things with me. Hell, we don't even know if we can bond together like last time, let alone have said bond hold strong enough for us to fight people. You wearing me can just be something we do for fun, mind you. Out of all the other pilots I had only one other ever fought with me and even then it was just during the festivals or the exams. It was never something serious." He pointed out.
"Anyway, this ain't the point. I don't want Silverpaw to feel like it's me stealing the limelight. If that's what you think then we should never ever ever think of merging in combat. You just do what you want to do. If I can help you with things, you just need to say it. Then outside hero work we can loaf around together as much as we want. As per the pilot suit debacle, it's just a bodysuit made of spandex with smooth rubber soles for its integrated tabi boots. Hardly something durable enough to be used in a fight. I guess you could use it as a Kirigumi and sleep in it if you want another use..."
Yusaku grabbed Dax's hand and gently pulled him away from the park and began walking him to his house. "I only proposed it to you because I know it would help up with our fusion, that's all. It lowers friction which means it makes it easier for you to wear me and it makes it easier for me to link up with you and transfer my feelings over to your body. We can always do without."
He walked a few steps, then stopped. He looked at his paws, hesitated, then turned to Dax.
"I don't want to merge myself to you to do better in a fight." He stated. Looking up, he pointed at Dax.
"...I want to fuse...because I want to be with you."

Now it was Dax's turn to fall silent and wait for the other to be done. Once he had said his peace, Dax let out a long sigh.
"Am I selfish for wanting some of the limelight that comes with being a hero then?" He lifted his head a bit. "I know the main priority of heroism should be saving and helping people, I just..." He shook his head and sighed. "I'm sorry. My priorities are all off. Of course you're not trying to steal the limelight."
He looked up at him, a little bit of intrigue filling his eyes as he looked up at him. "Just...being Silverpaw for fun. Loafing around together." A small grin touched his features. "I hadn't actually thought about that before. I'd like that. But I'm still not sure how I feel about the Pilot's suit. Yeah, I know it makes it easier for you but...well..." His shoulders drooped and he started walking, trailing along behind Yusaku. "Well you were in my head. You know how I'm different than most guys and why I don't like skintight stuff." He took a deep breath. He really didn't want it to seem like he was shooting down all of Yusaku's ideas. "I'll give it a chance, okay? I just can't promise anything. Maybe I could make some alterations, at least to the chest and groin area."
When Yusaku stopped, so did Dax, looking up at him in confusion. The confusion deepened when Yusaku said he didn't want to be Silverpaw to do better in a fight, but that confusion quickly evaporated and replaced with a few different emotions when he finished his sentence. He...wanted to be with him? In what way? A romantic way? But they barely knew each other! Even though they merged so fluidly last time, that was just one time and a few years ago. There had to be more than that to claim romantic feelings right? "Yu..."

Yusaku gave a small chuckle and motioned for Dax to follow. "It's just a suit you'll wear to wear me on top. It's not like anyone will ever see you wear it." He replied, turning a left then a right to arrive in his appartment. He would open the door to his house and let Dax in before him.
Two flights of stairs ad the guy would be welcomed in Yusaku's freakishly clean and tidy home. One could really tell he was indeed a robot. Yusaku himself locked the door behind them and settled the keys down. "There. Now we got all the privacy we need." He happily chimed, inviting his guest to take off his shoes and hop on the huge living room couch. As Dax did so, Yusaku would scurry upstairs and then come back don with a bundle of black and silver cloth in his arms. He would settle it down and motion Dax to take it. It was the suit in question he had agreed to try. It was a single piece of stretchy spandex with fingerless gloves and integrated tabi boots with a smooth rubber sole. No zippers or other stuff.
"Neck entry" Yusaku instructed. "Pull the neck wide open and slide yourself in. It'll probably feel tight and the boots will probably squeak a little when you walk cause it's basically brand new. Outside that, nothing much. You can use the bathroom behind you to change if you want. I'll wait here."

No, no one would see him wearing it. The issue had never been if other people would see him in it. Dax would see himself in it, he would feel all the ways it hugged his body. Even if it was just a few minutes between putting it on and then merging with Yusaku, it would be enough time for Dax to have his dysphoria triggered. Yusaku didn't understand, of course he didn't. He could just alter his body how he wanted to. He just wanted to cure everything with his abilities. Using your Quirk to try to solve everything...typical.
Upon entering the apartment, Dax was surprised by how human it felt, but also inhuman at the same time. There was a massive couch, an alcove with a kitchen, doors leading to a bathroom and probably the bedroom. There were also few decorations. Two framed posters and that was about it. It kind of felt like a showroom trying to not look like a showroom. It felt too clean, too cold. "Nice place," he still said, even if it was just to sound nice.
Dax took off his shoes, setting the heavy boots next to the door as his friend ran off into the back bedroom. He would return shortly with that accursed article. Just taking it from him sent a shiver down his spine. Putting this thing on was the last thing he wanted, but seeing Yusaku's face - the way his tail waved excitedly and his green LED eyes shone - Dax let out a sigh. "Fine."
He retreated into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. Leaning back against the counter, he held the jumpsuit by its shoulders so he could hold it up and take in the sight of it. This sucked. With his shoulders drooping, Dax dropped the jumpsuit on the floor and started slipping out of his clothes, also leaving them on the floor. Slipping into the item was a challenge with how tight it was, and Dax let out a few curses as he struggled to wriggle into it. Once it was on though, Dax turned to stare at himself in the mirror.
He instantly regretted it. The suit clung to him, exposing every line of his body. All those feminine curves that he always covered with a safety blanket of hoodies and jackets were now on full display. Even though he kept his binder on, it could never make his chest truly, perfectly flat. That was also fixed with baggy clothes, but now this damn jumpsuit showed the round curves on his chest that reminded him that he in fact had a chest. He always hid his body and everything he hated about it, pretending like the problems weren't there to try to make the cruel facts of his life and body at least somewhat tolerable. However, this pilot suit ripped all of that away. All of his safety blankets and comfort and everything that made him feel somewhat okay with himself. It was all gone, slapping him in the face with the harsh reminder of what he was. What he had been born as.
His stomach leaped into his throat and he felt his air clog in his airways as the panic attack pounced on him. He stumbled back into the wall and slid to the floor, his legs feeling like jelly now. He let out a sob, clawing desperately at his chest. He wanted it off. He wanted his chest off. He didn't care if he had to tear himself to pieces, he just wanted to feel okay with himself again. He tipped over onto the floor, curling up into a ball as he trembled and sobbed and furiously gasped for breath.
This is exactly why he didn't want to wear this. This is what he was trying to avoid.

Yusaku was chilling in the living room while waiting for Dax to come back. Outside of a faint thump here and there his house was mostly quiet. Sounded like he was changing up clothes after all.
He waited five minutes. After the six minute he cautiously knocked on the door. Odd..Usually that stuff was easy to wear. No reply came. He knocked again. No response.
Carefully, he unlocked the door and shyly peeked in, only to slam the door open moments later. "OMYGOSH ARE YOU OK?" He panicked seeing Dax on the floor. Yusaku's programming switched into red alert mode. He quickly knelt down and picked up Dax only to settle him down on the couch. With one paw his quickly pressed on the guy's neck, instantly reading heart rate, oxygenation and blood pressure. No abnormalities outside tachycardia. Didn't look like a stroke. Shaking...Was this a seizure? Something else? Epilepsy attack?
"Are you hurt? Do I need to call an the doctor?" He inquired, turning around to find where he put his first aid kit while trying his best to remain cool. "Hey, hey, talk to me." Yusaku shook his friend before instantly reappearing with his first aid kit on the couch. "What's wrong?"

Dax's body flinched at the sound of the door slamming open. His heart was racing, his breathing coming out in short, quick gasps like he was struggling for air. He quickly felt the hard press of metallic arms around him, felt himself being carried over and placed down on the couch. Dax's hand shot up, grabbing desperately at the metal paw pressing against the side of his neck, but he felt his grip slip when Yusaku suddenly left. "N-no," he stuttered.
When he returned, this time with a first-aid kit, Dax sprang forward, letting his body fall against Yusaku's and he clung to him in an awkward, panicked hug. "No doctor," he said, forehead pressed against Yu's metal chassis. "Panic attack. Just."
He couldn't talk. He always found talking hard when he had an attack. It was like his brain was shorting out and any words died before they reached his tongue. But he didn't need to talk to explain to Yusaku what was wrong with him. He pushed his mind forward, easily connecting to his friend's mind and hoping he would let Dax connect with him.
When he did allow that, Dax would send him everything. The memories of staring at that feminine body in the mirror, all the feelings and emotions of being faced with that reality that he's been trying to hide and change for so long. Yusaku could probably understand where he was coming from with his own experiences of being in the wrong body; being a robot when he wants to be a human again. That feeling of staring at yourself and feeling like it's wrong. Everything's wrong. It's a gut-wrenching sense of things just being so wrong, but having no way to fix it. The feelings of staring into a mirror and not recognizing the person looking back at you.
Amidst all of that, all of the emotions and memories, one resounding thought would be sent straight into Yusaku's mind. "I told you I didn't want to wear it."
