Okay. The UA facilities were even better than he ever could have imagined. The dorm buildings and rooms seemed more like home than the apartment he was raised (though that may have had to do with his disinterest in his father and step-mother), the classrooms seemed like places he wanted to be (but that would probably wear off once they actually got started on the boring schoolwork), and the training areas seemed almost too amazing to be places he got the opportunity to utilize. A regular gym was to be expected, but the specially designed facilities for quirk-use were unlike anything he'd ever seen. This whole high school thing was going to be all right.
Ever since he'd arrived at his new home for the next few years, Donburi had thought of ways to get ahead of the game. Even though he knew he was going to be working with his classmates to become the best hero he could be, he had to do something to stand out early on to give himself an advantage. The problem was, his quirk didn't exactly lend itself to that. He had the look down pat, for sure, but when it came to physical capabilities, Don was just a regular teenager.
To remedy that, he did what any regular person would do: workout. If he couldn't be strong through his powers, he'd have to be strong like any normal person. The gym. There was nothing like pumping the ole' iron to push the limits of human strength.
That brought him to the present. 5:15 AM. Crack of dawn. One of the best wake-up calls a man could ask for: clanking metal from racking the weights, pained grunts of people lifting unnaturally heavy objects, sighs of relief after each set. For his first few days on campus, Donburi found the best time to hit the gym was before anybody else even though about crawling out of bed. It allowed him to be alone, surrounded by thousands of pounds of weight and his own thoughts. It was almost therapeutic.
Since nobody had interrupted his early morning workouts thus far, he started to get comfortable having the gym to himself. Today in particular, he didn't bother bringing his headphones and instead opted to bring a small Bluetooth speaker to listen to his gym music. Most people preferred hard rock when lifting or some upbeat electronic when running, but Don's favorite music was American country regardless of the situation. His headphones allowed him to conceal that, but the music sounded better and got him more pumped up from his speaker. It was an embarrassing detail if anybody caught wind of it, but given the vacancy of the early morning gym, it was a detail he figured wouldn't slip. Plus, if somebody did walk in, he could just quickly switch over to something more typical of the gym.
Don wanted to lift a little lighter today so he could get some cardio and hits in on the punching bag before he wrapped up his workout. He sat down on his bench and psyched himself up to crush his next set. It would be the absolute worst time for someone to walk in while Don was mid-set, bench pressing a few hundred pounds, because he wouldn't be able to change his music. Hopefully nobody does that.
