APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Donburi is, on the surface, an ordinary Japanese teen. His mother is an American woman, so his eyes resemble hers more than his Japanese father, but otherwise he fits in perfectly with the general Japanese populace. He has spiky black hair that he takes good care of and wears prescription glasses or contacts to deal with his nearsightedness. Don's best friend is a firefighter, so every now and then he's able to sneak in some physical training. Outside of school, Don tends to wear name-brand athletic apparel, but he will settle for a graphic tee and sweatpants if he's short on time. He usually wears contacts, but every now and then he'll whip out the ole spectacles.
When he activates his quirk, Donburi is cloaked in a golden/yellow aura, which makes his hair seem like it is the same color, despite not actually changing. The aura also seems to alter the perception of his eye color, which shifts from dark brown to a turquoise blue-green. Aside from the aura, Don's quirk does not change any of his physical features.
Due to a lack of creativity and being a big fan of Wyvern Orb, Don's hero costume resembles that of the Great Pastriman (Great Saiyaman). The costume itself consists of a black jumpsuit from his neck to his toes, a green gi that flows down to his thighs, a brown belt with a shiny gold buckle, white gloves, and white and gold boots. He's even considered adding a red cape and some kind of helmet, but the basics work for now.

Personality:
Donburi's a good person. If someone asks for help, Don will be right there by their side supporting them until they overcome whatever obstacle is in their way. If he can do anything to directly help, he will. Otherwise, he'll be a pillar of support, by their side for as long as he needs to be. That's just the type of person Donburi is. When helping others, Don is always thinking with their best interests in mind. Any schemes or plots that he thinks up will usually benefit the person he's helping, if possible, and if somebody ever needs to take the fall for something, Don is not afraid of stepping up and taking the hit.
Despite his kindness and desire to help people, Don's feelings towards himself prevents him from making any deep connections with others. He may consider people friends, but he will resist opening up to anybody for as long as he can unless absolutely necessary. The last thing he'd want to do is burden somebody with his problems. Those can be dealt with on his own time. At least, that's what he tells himself. While that is partially true, in reality, he's scared of getting close to someone because he doesn't want to deal with the pain that comes with losing them.
Around everybody, Donburi is usually pretty serious and rule-bound to a tee (for the most part), only willing to break the rules if he believes they are unjust. He wants to give the best impression he can to everybody he meets, and being a nuisance is something he wants to avoid at all costs. Every action Don makes sits on his mind like a rock. Did he make the right decision? Should he have done something differently? If he'd done this, would that have happened? Things like that. Despite his constant self-doubt and criticism, Don outwardly presses on for the good of others. After all, he's supposed to be that pillar of support, there for somebody whenever they need him! Again, his own problems can wait.
All things considered, Donburi is actually quite a good speaker. He likes watching motivational speeches on the internet and reading books to help with his vocabulary, all of which have translated into being able to give a good pump-up speech if needed.
Don is a big believer in seizing the day, making the most out of every opportunity. For this reason, Don is always hard at work on whatever task is on his mind. If he works hard now, he can have fun and enjoy his free time later on in life. His work:play ratio is probably unhealthy, but who cares! Donburi is definitely not the type to complain, so he continues to push onward. That's not to say Don is against having fun and taking a little time off. A little bit of convincing may break him away from his work every once in a while, but if he had the choice between the two, he's probably choosing work 99% of the time.
Early bird is one of the best ways of describing Don. If he could go to bed by 9:00 PM every night and wake up at 5:00 AM every morning, he would be the happiest man alive. The only exception to his self-imposed bedtime is if he's working on something important prior. Work will always take priority in Don's life.
He may be a rule-follower and whatnot, but one quirk Don has comes to the cleanliness of his room. Like, yeah, he'll make it presentable, but if he's not expecting company, why bother?
Also, in terms of general interests, Don is a huge fan of the Wyvern Orb series. It's just about the only series he'd be willing to admit he's a fan of to a total stranger. He's even considered making a hero alias centered around the series. Maybe not. Could be some kind of copyright dispute. Maybe? Otherwise his taste for things tend to stay hidden, except for when he forgets to close his music app after listening to some good old fashioned country music.

HISTORY
It can be so easy to get caught up in the flow of life, living for oneself and doing whatever it takes to get to the top. Donburi Kyabetsu has experienced a lot of that. His parents had a nasty break-up when he was a toddler, one that sent his mother back to her hometown in the United States without either of her children in tow. Instead of seeing any remorse from his father, the man simply remarried and had two more children as if nothing happened.
Don’s older brother by five years, Pan, started off on the right foot, but started to get caught up in the wrong crowd during his high school years. The older brother’s antics were finally put on hold when he got arrested in his first year out of high school. Pan’s imprisonment left Don all alone, with his father and step-mother who paid more attention to the younger children than their older ones. Life seemed bleak.
Fate had other plans, though. When Donburi desperately needed a role model, one just so happened to appear: Senshi Kaen. Senshi was a firefighter in the Tokyo Fire Department who lived near the Kyabetsu household. The two would often run into each other due to the nature of living near each other, but one day Senshi took the time to ask Don how he was doing. A simple question, and one that most people automatically answer and move on from. That day, though, Donburi didn't just let his autopilot answer the question. He thought long and hard about his state of living at the time, then answered honestly. For the first time, Don expressed his true feelings to someone outside his family. Instead of getting laughed at or brushed aside, like what happened with his father and step-mother, Senshi took the time to sit down and have a full fledged conversation with Donburi.
The interaction seemed like a one-off, but every time the two saw each other again afterwards, they started to bond more and more. Their little chats evolved into playing catch with one of Don's old baseballs, which then evolved into full excursions throughout the Tokyo metropolitan area. Their neighbor-acquaintance relationship transformed into an older brother/younger brother relationship, a truly unbreakable bond.
From Senshi, Don learned a lot. Before he met the firefighter, Donburi was a recluse with no goals or aspirations in life. Senshi taught Don how to live, how to experience life while also getting work done. Most importantly, Senshi taught Don empathy for others. It's easy for a person to get down on themselves, but letting that negative energy eat away at them is the worst thing they could do. Charity is food for the soul. Giving to others didn't have to be in material items or even physical actions. Being a kind person, showing an interest in other people's interests, learning about their aspirations... those are all things that could completely brighten somebody else's day. In doing that, Senshi explained that it may even be able to brighten Don's day as well.
So, Don shifted his mindset. He stopped being a recluse who only spoke when spoken to and started to be more outgoing. He interacted with his classmates, with people he passed on the street, and even with his own family, who had once seemed impossible to bond with. Just like Senshi said, Don's life started to change before his eyes. No more was the sad loner, as he had been replaced by a caring boy who lived to see other people succeed. As he entered junior high, Donburi had become a reliable classmate and friend, but his demons of old still lingered. While he was supportive of all his classmates, he never really opened up to anybody. He was afraid if he got too comfortable with them, his newfound friends may shun him or leave him, much like his parents and brother. Sure, Senshi didn't leave, but Senshi was a firefighter. Literally a trained professional at caring about other people. Pre-teens did not have that much compassion.
Fortunately, for the time being, nobody seemed to notice or care. Donburi's support and friendliness allowed him to make a reputation for himself as something of a leader at his school and among his peers. Each person who came to Don for encouragement or advice seemed like they were helping to liberate the true Donburi, the one who had been buried deep in years of familial trouble. Then, when he'd get out of school, Don would race back and spend time with Senshi.
Throughout junior high, this was the natural flow of things. That is, until one day, when everything changed. While Don was with Senshi on a job shadow, to see if becoming a firefighter was something that interested him in the future, the crew was called to the scene of an inferno in the midst of a shopping center in Tokyo. The fire was pretty bad, but nothing out of the ordinary. As some of the crew members got to work putting out the flames, Senshi led evacuation efforts. In the chaos of it all, a large piece of debris fell off one of the buildings and down towards where Senshi stood.
In that moment, time seemed to slow down from Don's perspective. There was his best friend, a brother figure, Senshi Kaen, just seconds away from being crushed by a large pile of flaming debris. Somehow, whether it was from the stress of the situation or some kind of built up energy, an inexplicable yellow aura flared up around Donburi as he yelled out Senshi's name. As if Don's quirk manifestation wasn't surprising enough, Senshi was able to reach up and catch the debris like it weighed practically nothing. Unbeknownst to Don, Senshi had a quirk that allowed him to work harder in life-threatening situations, which was part of why he became a firefighter in the first place. Even with his quirk, Senshi should not have been strong enough to catch the debris. Donburi's newfound quirk definitely had something to do with that.
With a series of tests and a few doctor visits, they were able to determine the very basic mechanics of Don's quirk: Encouragement. What Senshi had been preaching for all those years turned out to be exactly what Don's body wanted to do. Knowing how useful his quirk was, Senshi recommended a different line of work. It was relatively new compared to firefighting, but the demand was growing everyday. A hero. But, like, a professional one.
At first, Donburi was a bit skeptical. He'd heard of vigilantes running around helping the police do their work, and of course he heard about various events that these quirk-outlaws stirred up, but that kind of thing never really interested him. Fighting people was outside Don's wheelhouse, as he'd rather encourage people into doing good things with their life. He didn't know if he had it in him to stand up to a criminal for the safety of the public.
Senshi saw potential, though. He reminded Don that the job of a hero wasn't necessarily to beat up the villain, but rather, to protect the lives of the innocent. Everybody had goals and aspirations, ones that they deserved a chance to strive for. With the way society had been going, heroes may have been the only hope for these people to get to that point. Senshi directed Donburi in the direction of the relatively new UA, a high school that took raw teenaged talent and transformed them into formidable heroes that could stand up for the little guy. Something to think about.
How could Donburi say no to Senshi?
With the help of his firefighter friend, Don went through the application process and was pleased to hear he had received admission to the school. It was the first step in what would likely be a long road to world peace, and Donburi was ready for the adventure that awaited.
Don’s older brother by five years, Pan, started off on the right foot, but started to get caught up in the wrong crowd during his high school years. The older brother’s antics were finally put on hold when he got arrested in his first year out of high school.
