"Yeah yeah, I know." Kenshin passed by yet another person who joked about him arriving late. You keep to a schedule for so long and people still nag you for being late once, seriously. It was Sunday of all days as well, so he was allowed to sleep in if he damn well wanted to, and they had no right saying anything about it until he couldn't serve them their ass on a platter. With a sigh, he tightened his workout gloves, having already gotten changed, or, well, unchanged, as his workout outfit pretty much consisted of him taking off his shirt and footwear, having already donned pants worthy of exercise before he left his residence, as was usual. Overall, despite the difference in time, his arrival was pretty much the same as always. Pushing open the door to the martial arts room, he took off his shoulder bag before sliding it across the floor to land somewhere along the wall. Finding an open spot, he set his water bottle down and started stretching, as one always should, especially when they work out as often as himself. After completing that, it was time to figure out what to do for his time here today. He did use a schedule for every other day he was in the gym, but Sunday was his free day, so he lazily scanned the room, wondering just what he should work on. Footwork? Combos? Decisions, decisions.

| ◀ | Cold as ice, soft as snow ❆ Hmmm, what to do today? With it being the weekend, Sekka didn't have much to do at the moment. No homework to do, no having to take care of her sister and brother as her father was actually home from work for once, and no friends to talk with at school. Oh wait, the girl didn't have any friends. Not yet, anyway. Perhaps that could change someday if she learned to open up to others more readily. However, Sekka was in no rush to try and lower her icy guard just yet. For now, she was doing just fine on her own. Seeing that there was nothing much to do at home, Sekka decided to go do the one thing she always did: Exercise. Regardless of what kind it was, the girl enjoyed working out. Not only did she like staying in shape, it was also a good distraction from the many thoughts that invaded her mind. So as soon as the desire to hit the gym hit her head, Sekka decided to go do just that. Tying her hair back into a ponytail and changing into her workout clothes (a simple white t-shirt, a thin sky blue jacket, black workout shorts, and white sneakers), Sekka was ready to head out. As she jogged on over to her destination, the girl put on her earbuds and began to listen to music on her phone. Music made exercise even more fun. It did not take very long to arrive at this place. Sekka had only heard of this place a few months ago, yet was now the gym of choice for her. It had so many cool things going for it. Several rooms for people to workout in private or groups depending on preference. Quirkers were allowed to use their quirks here (responsibly and under close supervision by the gym's employees, of course) as the owners of the place had a license allowing their establishment such a luxury, which was fantastic since Sekka could bring out Hiryu and train alongside her summon if she wanted to. There were even rooms to practice various forms of martial arts here. The pool here was pretty nice and refreshing as well. Seriously, what doesn't this gym have? Entering one of the rooms, Sekka got to work. She took one of the wooden practice poles and began to practice her bōjutsu. Making sure she was in a corner all by herself so that there was no need to worry about accidentally hitting someone, Sekka began to practice her moves, swinging her pole around at one of the training dummies. Jabs, thrusts, smacks, sweeps, twirls, a few kicks mixed in there. Her movements were precise and fierce, yet light and graceful. It was almost like a mesmerizing dance or performance of sorts. Once Sekka began to practice like this, everything else around her almost faded out of her mind. She did not care if anyone entered the room and began watching her. For now, her mind was solely focused on practice. |

Decisions, decisio-... now that seems kind of interesting. Kenshin's wandering gaze finally settled itself upon a corner of the room, or rather, the lone occupant contained within. He didn't often get to see someone practicing martial arts like they meant it, at least not here. That may seem ironic, given his location within the room designed for martial arts, but it was sadly true; most people who came here did so because they didn't have somewhere more specific to go. After all, this gym attracted no specific practitioners of any style, so one was often left without any peers to actually practice with, and there was only so much one could do practicing by themselves. Kenshin himself would probably be in an actual dojo somewhere were it not for the fact that his style was self-made, and as such, he'd encounter the same problem no matter where he went. What this problem meant was that this gym tended not to attract people who wanted to learn martial arts, but instead, more specifically, people who wanted to learn how to learn martial arts, people who didn't know where to start or what they wanted yet. The rest of the attendees tended to be people on their days off from their actual dojo, and even these tended to be rare, as most either practiced at home or, sadly quite often, didn't practice on days off at all. Altogether, this meant that improvement was hard to come by here unless copious amounts of both time and effort were spent on a regular basis, which not many people had the energy for, or in many cases, the time.
Contrary to this, Kenshin was fairly sure this person, while they may be a bit of a rookie now that he got a good look at them, at least knew what they were doing, or, well, what they wanted to do at the very minimum, which was still somewhat rare. There was also the fact that someone who didn't know what they were doing usually didn't show up and start beating things with a stick, at least unless they were incredibly stupid, and he chose to have faith in humanity on this day. Now, he was usually not one to needlessly pester others, especially when they appeared busy, but in this case his interest in someone who may actually be worth his time won out, so, after some thought, he made his way over to them. Ever awkward in his ways, he would walk up beside an adjacent training dummy and briefly consider leaning on it to appear more natural, though, in the end, he figured doing so would be disrespectful to the equipment. Turning his head away from said equipment and toward Sekka, opting to cross his arms and give a short upward nod of his head in a vague attempt at a greeting that he hoped didn't appear too terribly weird, which was something that, regrettably, he didn't need a lot of help doing. "Yo. It's not often I see someone handling something other than their ego around here." He would gesture briefly at their staff. "Practicing any particular style?" And then, as usual, he'd resume staring at them unblinkingly.

| ◀ | Cold as ice, soft as snow ❆ Sekka continued to practice, swinging the staff with precision. As she did so, she kept on making mental notes on each and every single one of her jabs, swings, spins, and strikes. Too slow.... Not enough force.... That one was okay.... So was that one.... That one as well.... Not quick enough. In a combat situation, an adept opponent would have taken advantage of that opening.... My footwork was okay.... That sidestep was fine.... Eh, too swift, I don't want to actually harm anyone.... Good.... Not bad.... Almost perfect.... Too slow again....
Upon hearing someone's voice, Sekka didn't stop right away. She kept practicing. She always wanted to make it a point to never be distracted or caught off-guard by anything or anyone. Still, she wasn't actually ignoring the person speaking to her. In fact, she would actually listen to what he was saying. "Oh, hello." Sekka would even reply back, all while still practicing her moves and making mental notes on what she was doing wrong. "Yeah, too many arrogant people come here. I just ignore them." Her tone seemed rather dry, cold, and unenthusiastic, making it sound like she was bored. However, that was just how the girl spoke. She was never any good at expressing herself very well.
"I'm just practicing standard bōjutsu. Nothing too fancy." Sekka took a moment to stop swinging the staff around and actually look at the guy. The girl may be cold and socially distant, but she was by no means rude. "I know a bit of other martial arts styles like jujutsu and karate, but I'm nowhere near as skilled at those as I am with bōjutsu." It was true. Sekka wished to be versatile in her fighting style, not wanting to just stick to one martial art in particular. She often incorporated moves from other martial arts into her own style. Still, she was far more adept at fighting with a staff than without.
"Why do you ask?" Sekka was curious. Was this guy interested in watching her movements? Did he want to merely talk martial arts? The girl supposed that it wouldn't hurt her training to stop and talk with someone. Her father had been pushing her to actually try and talking with others that looked to be around her own age group, so why not actually go do that for once? "What about you? Do you know any martial arts?" Perhaps this could be the start of an interesting conversation. Well there was only one way to find out. |
