Tag: Mia KearneySynopsis: Lewis gets a private lesson to see what he knows as he arrives as a new student in UA Despite having moved in to the dorms on the same day, Lewis wasn't given much of a chance to sit back and relax. He had been lucky enough to join the school and the dorms on the weekend, thus giving him a chance to get settled in without having to rush. Lewis however hated taking any sort of break. He had arrived early in the morning and had set up his room almost instantaneously. He had taken a break halfway through in order to do some of his morning work out routines before going back to finishing up his dorm. By now it was just past noon and for the most part Lewis had finished setting up his room, met some of his fellow dormmates, and gotten in most of his morning routines and workouts. One of the things that had been discussed when he was moving over from his other school to UA was testing himself out; seeing how exactly he had progressed from his former school. As such, even though it was the weekend now, Lewis had a few crash courses to take. Most, to him, didn't seem like they'd be too hard. A lot of them seemed like practical once overs; study guides, orientations, physicals. One of the things he had been more interested in was a one on one with the Combat teacher. Lewis was always sure of his abilities, but his quirk was something he was hit or miss on. He had seen people of TV, his friends and family, and read up online about many others who seemed to have far more impressive quirks than him. Some people could do simply amazing things. He, on the other hand, looked like a devil and could breathe out fire. To him, it wasn't impressive. That did though give him a chance to better himself, and hopefully that was something he could do working with the teacher he was heading to see. As he arrived at the designated facility, earlier than needed, he took a couple of minutes to do some stretches before following it up with a couple of laps around the building. He wasn't about to not be loosened up for some training, knowing full well how easy it would be to get hurt if you didn't prep yourself.

With new students filing in from other schools here or there Mia had heard they had to go through some orientation processes to make sure the school itself had a good, first hand idea of their abilities and mind. See where they were beyond numbers on a sheet of paper coming across from another school. For Mia that definitely felt important. What someone else may grade as an A in terms of combat experience she may grade as a D, or vice versa. Her standards weren't high personally, but she tended to try and view more of a person's heart in a situation. Get a sense for if they put their all into a fight or not. Especially for first years that felt the most important, just making sure they had the drive needed to improve over the years.
Only being the combat teacher for about a month, this was going to be the first time she ran one of these combat orientations herself, so when it came to the after school hours and she had to pack up from her last class and head over to the training facility she'd booked out for time with this new student, she... well, she was a little slow to remember. Where she maybe should have been rushing to pack things away it was only mid way through putting away the training gear that she realized she needed to be halfway across campus, groaning to herself for her own lack of memory, and kicking herself into gear to get over there in good time.
Thankfully with the leg muscles of a titan it only took a literal hop skip and a jump to make it across campus to the training facilities, Lewis likely feeling a hefty rumble in the ground as she hit the ground outside the facility, and rushing inside. New students always tended to be really eager or really nervous, so for once she actually kinda cared what sorta first impression she was gonna be giving.
Despite the titanic leap, she still wasn't sweating as she entered in her hero gear. Bandage-style tube top, bandage forearm coverings, and ragged hakama with a deep blue at the top flowing into a deep brown at the bottom, and a red rope belt. It was a minimalistic hero suit, especially given the lack of shoes, but it was very much 'her'. Any support gear she even tried to test, she ended up breaking afterall.
Least the kid was keeping himself busy... he seemed to be doing laps by the time she entered the room, and rather than call out to him she'd wait till he rounded the huge room back to her, leaning back against the wall by the door, wondering if he'd already started working up a sweat before they even got started. "Well, I can see someone's certainly a little eager to warm up.~" She teased with a bright grin, pushing her shoulders off the wall and offering her hand, a bear sized mitt that'd come close to enveloping his. "Mia Kearney, Redhorn, combat teacher. Lewis right?"

Sweating was a bit of an odd thing for Lewis. While he did sweat, his heated body often meant the sweat just evaporated off of himself as he exerted his body. He never really sweated in hot weather, since his body was accustomed to the higher temperatures, but working out was obviously a different story. For a normal person, sweat helped them regulate their body temperature, and for Lewis it was the same but different. To avoid his body working overtime and making his internal fires continuing to grow unabated, the sweat helped hold his body at a point where that wouldn't happen. It did often have the side effect of looking more like steam rising off of him than his body being covered in sweat, but it was something the teenager had grown accustomed to.
Lewis had felt the rumble on the ground as he did his laps, but it only caused him to slightly slow his pace. He couldn't put his finger on what was causing it, so he didn't want to potentially trip up if something happened. His mental questionings were soon answered however as the hulking figure entered, leading Lewis to believe that was probably the instructor. The struck an imposing figure, but considering what Lewis woke up to and looked at in the mirror every day, he wasn't fully shocked.
Lewis didn't have much in terms of an outfit he wore. His gear was just a pair of work out shorts that went just beyond his knees, but exposed his digitgrade legs. The simplicity and almost lack thereof an actual costume was chalked up to the fact of Lewis' heat related powers. If he were to have gear, it would need to both be able to withstand his heat and fire, but also allow him to stay cool. Instead of the complication in all that, Lewis went for the bare minimal.
As he finished his last lap, he gave her a small nod as she spoke to him. "Have to keep busy. Not good to waste time" he stated, slowing his pace before lightly jogging on the spot in front of her. "Lewis Himura. Uh, Lu works as well. Or Bel. That's the hero name, uh...thing I picked out" Despite the work out from earlier in the day, and the light follow up he had just performed, Lewis didn't sound very out of breath. The kid had trained himself well to pace himself and know his own limits, but surpassing his own limits was a big thing for him; he always wanted to do better than the day before.
"Thank you for taking the extra time to catch me up ma'am"

Mia noticed the light bit of steam coming off the demon boy, and while she was definitely interested in him and what he could do from the moment she set foot in the room, she noted to herself she probably shouldn't get her hopes up. Honestly from the way he said he needed to keep busy to... well, having actions that proved he wasn't just talk on the matter, she liked what she was seeing already and felt he at least had the drive to exercise and put in the effort to improve himself physically. If he actually had the ability to muster what it took in a fight or a rescue situation? Different question, but from his quirk alone she was hopeful that it wasn't just for show. Some mutants could just look physically different like her size, her horn, his or his red skin and tale, she was here today to make sure his mutations weren't just that. An aesthetic. But instead had a fire beneath them, metaphorically or literally.
Her offered hand seemed to go ignored, but he didn't want to stick to staying still either, so she shrugged it off and turned to start walking to the middle of the room. Hooking her satchel off her shoulder she fished out a small clipboard with some filed notes on him. he might catch a glimpse of his name or a picture of himself he would have taken for his school ID on one of the pages but otherwise Mia would keep enough of a distance so that he couldn't read anything, her satchel tossed over to the bleachers at the edge of the room.
"Well let's say we wanna get right to this then if you can't stand still. Firstly I gotta, ya know-" She swirled a free hand in the air flippantly. "Go over the manutia, the crap they want me to say as you're teacher." She turned about on her heel and crossed her arms, leaning down to his eye level a bit, noting their golden color before rising back up to a full stand. "I dunno what the other school was teaching you, but you're at UA now. First hero school of it's kind and the one your school likely took after, so, I'm here to make sure you can kick it here. So, first up, I gotta ask what they were even teaching you at that other school.~" She smirked with a faint chuckle beneath her breath. "I mean, hero shit, obviously-" She began, making no apology for her crude language. "But did y'all have combat classes? How did they run for you? Students against students? Training dummies? Teacher combat?~"

As his on-the-spot jogging slowly turned into on-the-spot leg raises, Lewis' hands reached back and began to tie up his hair. If he was going to be working along a teacher, especially the one who taught combat, Lewis needed to make sure he had himself ready. While he'd never really gotten into fights before, his boxing instructor had made it a point that long hair was never a benefit in a fight, and if you wanted to keep it, you better keep it toed up. That way it didn't get in your face while you did what you needed to do, or if you ever got into a fight that the other person couldn't grab it for an advantage.
As he finished tying up his hair, he noticed her hand retract and it was then that Lewis realized he had missed the chance to shake her hand. Unintentional on his part, he didn't get a chance to apologies as she was already on the move and speaking once more.
He stopped his leg raises and momentarily slumped as his mind snapped at him for missing the queue, but he quickly shut his eyes and refocused. Bouncing momentarily on his toe, making sure he was spry, he followed after the teacher and listen intently to what she had to say. He thought for a moment before opening to speak once more. Like always, the faint yellow glow of his internal fire would be seen in the back of his throat as he spoke; "Anything quirk related was mostly control based. The school didn't really want to risk any injuries, so the focus was on self control. Anything combat related was against dummies. Kind of like punching bags" The young devilish student rubbed the back of his neck. "I know it was kind of the point, but I felt bad for burning school property. Only ever what was asked of me to burn though!" Lewis was quick to add the second part in. He really didn't want to make an impression that he couldn't control the fire. The last thing Lewis had ever wanted to do was start an unnecessary, and so one of the first things he ever learned about his powers was control and restraint. In fact, that was the biggest thing he ever learned. It may have been why he didn't have much confidence in the power of the fire, because all of his training was focused on containing it.
"I've boxed before, but that's not really school related...does that count?"

Mia tucked the clipboard under her arm for a moment as she folded them both across her chest. From just initial impressions it seemed like that other school was playing it a lot safer than UA, and while her gut instinct was to say that was boring it was also fair enough. They were all experimental programs at this stage, so she couldn't really judge. Still, that didn't mean she had to treat the kid soft cause he hadn't really experienced any combat. At the very least it gave her some interesting things to work with. His quirk details on his student file did say something about him having a fire aspect to his quirk, and Mia could see the hints of it even now. If he was afraid to burn shit she'd have to turn that fear into caution. It was one thing to be afraid of hurting a civilian. Fear alone prevented action. Caution based on fear? That was something else. That meant fear taught you the risks, you heard them, you assessed them... and you acted. But, baby steps with a new student red horn.
"Boxing's good. Fights in the real world tend to get a lot more wild but it's a great start I'll tell ya that much. It'll give you some ground work to run with. Teaches you proper form, how to hold your ground, put up a guard, and throw a punch, but in a real fight? You always gotta remember your opponents ain't gonna have those same instincts. If you're in the ring you might expect a hook or a jab. In a real world fight you could expect someone's third arm to go right for your crotch-"
It did get her chuckling a bit but she was trying to make a genuine point. Still, she wouldn't linger on it, clearing her throat. "Alright though... let's start by seeing your quirk then." She took a step back, swooped low and slid her clipboard along the floor till it hit the wall and jumped back to her full height, putting some distance between her and the kid as she opened her arms apart, nonchalant, and fairly confident, a rather lackadaisical smile across her features. "Consider me you're training dummy. You have permission to bruise, burn, cut me. In one move-" She raised a single finger briefly between them to emphasize. "I want you to sum up your quirk for me. A punch, a kick, a swipe of that tail... strike me like you would the first criminal you blindside on the scene.~"

Lewis watched the instructors moves carefully. Sure she was just talking and getting into position, but from her questions, Lewis could tell she was going to put him through some work. Something he had been taught while boxing was to study his opponent outside of a fight if possible. Seeing how someone acting in a day to day setting was a great way to study their movements. Often when an opposing boxer was on his or her last legs, they'd revert more to instinct, and that's what everyday life was more or less.
"Is that a rhet-" Lewis was about to question the crotch-shot comment, but noticed Mia get into a position and request he come at her. He looked her over once more as he had when she first arrived, but now more carefully, trying to spot anything that might have been out of place. Always look for an opening. It was something he was keen to look for while boxing.
"Wait, use my quirk but go at you like I'd take down a criminal? I wouldn't want to burn someone, that'd do more harm than good, wouldn't it?" Lu tucked some loose strands of hair that hadn't gotten tied up behind his ears and he began to bounce on his toes. Thanks to his digitigrade legs, he could get a bit more power out of his running than just a normal person, something he relied on quite a bit while training.
He really wasn't sure if she wanted him to fully go off with his fire breath or not, but he figured if she was a teacher asking for it, she could more than likely take it. So, with his mind racing with thoughts, he pushed off with his legs propelling him forward. Taking a wide birth approach from the right, he pulled an arm back, ready to deliver a punch only to not throw the punch and instead expel a load fume of fire out from his mouth towards the teachers face.

If Lewis was looking for an opening as Mia stood before him he’d find plenty. With no fear or survival instinct on her in that current moment Mia literally just stood with her arms open willing to accept any strike or attack the demon could toss her way. Of course if she did feel a last minute preservation instinct she may guard herself, but she was cool and calm enough that she didn’t seem to be too worried about that. She was wide open for Lewis to come at her from any angle… though she did chuckle a little sigh out as Lu made his observation.
“Okay, let’s say it’s a dire situation and it’s a criminal you know can take it. Make your dynamic entry and save some kid’s life or something. C’mon kid we’re talking hypotheticals here~ Just hit me.~” Despite the request Mia was absolutely still light and jovial about all this, standing ready to take a blow in her own unique… absolutely open way, a cheeky little grin flashing for a moment before lifting her chin up with some self pride.
Mia watched as he came in, watching how he tried to approach with some speed and, in retrospect at least, she’d realize he’d basically tried to feint her, coming in with that punch and then shifting to the fire. As it came she was looking for the punch expectantly, her eyes widening in some surprise before a hot wathe of flame washed over her face, taking it head on all the same and feeling the fire start to singe the edges of her hair. When the flame passed, she needed a second to get some moisture back on her eyes, but beyond that, a few singed stands and a red face, the fire didn’t seem to do much serious damage, Mia actually smiling when she was able to see again, bringing her hands into a small applause.
“Niiiice!~ Guessed you had some fire in you and it ain’t bad. I’d mayyyybe work on making it more precise though.” She gestured around her shoulders, the fire breath had been a bit wide (accounting for the lack of range) and in her head that meant he might risk some collateral to his surroundings. “I mean I don’t breathe fire maybe try pulling your lips in more next time. Go for a more precise shot.~” Despite the fact she just took a fire burst to the face she was shrugging it off with a good mood to her. She was a liiiittle tempted to blindside him with a punch with the old ‘my turn’ trope, but… nah.~ Kid had a good nature about him, she’d take this seriously. “Well for a first year I tell ya what you shouldn’t be lagging behind power wise if that’s part of yer arsenal…heck-“
She leaned forward so her head was closer to his level. She wasn’t monsterously tall but she did still tower over most students. She turned her head, and tapped her cheek facing him. “C’mon. Let’s see the whole package. Gimme a boxin’ hook right here.~ See if your brawn matches your flame.”

Despite his original hesitance to use his quirk, he had figured the instructor wouldn't have brought it up if she didn't want him to use it. There more than likely would have been instructions from her to not use it if he really wasn't supposed to. Not to mention as a Combat Instructor, she could probably take a hit of nearly anything from almost anyone. It was why, despite his original personal objection, he had changed his punch to a breath of fire. In fact, the feint only came as last second adjustment. While Lewis had made some plans if he ever needed to fight someone, the plans were always mostly straightforward; get in close, punch where he could, spew fire in the persons face, repeat. It wasn't fancy by any means, but Lewis was sure a cone of flames in a persons face would sure take them out, if not, a follow up of punches could.
When the flames washed over her, Lewis' hand was still cocked and ready to be thrown. He hadn't been hesitant to follow up, but the teacher had seemed to take a moment to collect herself, and as such, the hand lowered, figuring the first go was probably more so just to see what he'd do on instinct. "Noted" He gave a small nod to her suggestion. He had tried it before and he had been able to change the spread of his fire, but it really wasn't something he had spent a lot of time developing. Perhaps he could spend more time on it now that he was at UA and seemed to have a proper instructor.
With the conversation continuing, Lewis continued to bounce on his toes/feet. His body was still in work out mode from the exercise, and given the sudden burst of speed and adrenaline, he was still in the mind set of go go go. Her compliment garnered another small nod from him, though he personally didn't agree with her assessment. Really, spewing out fire wasn't that great of a quirk. Not when others could control the wind or talk to plants. Woo, cool, he could lit a campfire easily!
His mental scoldings came to a halt as she leaned towards him and he took a few steps back. He inspected the target she had pointed out for him and his eyes shifted from the spot to her eyes. The nearly pupilless eyes examined his options for a second and he bounced on his feet again. "I'm not really a power boxer to be honest. I get in close and swarm" That wasn't to say he couldn't deck someone, but it wasn't his forte. He mentally paused, calculating different options he had. It was probably best just to do as he was instructed however, despite his other potential options.
Winding up, his fist quickly came flying in. Despite not having any superhuman strength or speed, Lewis was better than your average person. Lewis also had a good sense of direction and area awareness that after the initial throw, his eyes quickly changed to watch Mia. He was ready to react if she tried to surprise him. During his boxing training, he was always reading the opposing fighter, teaching himself how to act and react at almost the same time.

Hands pulled behind her back, she had her cheek turned to the side leaving herself wide open to the incoming blow. She quirked a brow when they said they weren't much of a power boxer, and as someone who'd never really trained in any formal styles of combat, from boxing to judo to whatever the hell else was on the menu, so the difference between a 'swarmer' and a 'power boxer' wasn't really something she had much knowledge about. Regardless he still seemed to be winding up, and she'd allow him a clean shot.
When the blow finally came she grit down her teeth. Taking an open blow like that set off her quirk just a little, her tusks growing a fraction of an inch and her muscles pulsing as they grew out a little. It wasn't grand but enough to be noticeable, but beyond that she tried to solely absorb the blow. Her head moved a moment with the strike, before her head shakily started to push back against his fist. A small wince in her eye showed it definitely hurt, but she couldn't resist showing off at least a little, finally pulling her head back and, if there was any pressure still left behind his arm, letting it swing past her. "Niiiice.~ Dunno what that power boxer crap was about but you got a better hook on you than most kids here.~ I mean no offense to anyone intended, you'd just be surprised how many people come here without any experience fighting... you been doing the boxing thing long?"
Once she'd gotten an answer to her question, Mia would roll back her shoulders and shift her neck back along them, popping her neck slowly bit by bit as she loosened up. "Alright... now that I've seen what you got, we should see if you can keep up here... ready for orientation to really begin?~"

The hit had seemed to have connected quite squarely onto her. While the fist followed the roll of the head, Lewis made sure to keep his eyes open sharp incase she had went for a surprise hit onto him as some sort of training exercise. None came however, and as the punch finished the teenager quickly shook his hand. Though she had rolled with the hit, it had still felt like hitting a wall to Lewis. It stung his hand much more than hitting a punching bag would have. Despite all of his boxing training, nothing would ever prepare himself or others for the feeling of a flesh on flesh hit. Especially when quirks were involved.
"Power boxing is just, like, big swings. Heavy fisted. Hope to knock your opponent out with one hit. Swarming gets you in right close to others, then you go for a lot of quick jabs and hits wherever you can. Wear down the other person" Lewis really wasn't a fan of talking, but he loved talking about things he was passionate about. He was surprised that the combat instructor didn't know about boxing, but given what he saw from her quirk he guessed it made sense. When you could rely on your powers to exert force, there was probably very little reason to look for a proper fighting style. Still, to Lewis, if he had that sort of power, he'd still want to know a fighting style as a way to augment his capabilities.
"As long as I can remember. It's really good exercise" He was glad to hear her compliments, but was sure she probably had words like this parsed out for every student. It was best to not make young impressionable youths feel useless, so some positive reinforcement was probably more than required.
He gave her a nod and bounced on his toes again. He followed suit of her loosening up and rolled his shoulders, before bouncing on one foot and then the other and then back and forth on the spot. "What's the plan?"

Rubbing her cheek idly as she listened, Mia quirked her brow up a bit as she took some interest in the definition of a power boxer. If she wasn’t going up against goons who could tank even her blows she’d probably come off pretty close to that herself, at least in her inexperienced eyes. Even then, she didn’t see much interest in picking up the style. Whatever she was doing got the job done, and she’d rather continue down her own path than get worried about if she was throwing a punch ‘right’. So long as it did damage to the bad guys? That’s all she needed out of it.
Still, it was about time they got to the meat of things, Mia waving the kid off as she moved towards the sides of one of the bleachers lining the edge of the room. “Yeah just a sec kid.” She’d stored away some equipment earlier, dragging out a small metal box with switches on it and a small cart on wheels full of… well honestly it looked like just plain old rocks she could have picked up from the nearest beach. A soft pop of her neck either way, and she’d lift the metal box up, hesitating for a moment before beckoning her student for the day closer. “’Ere a step mate.” Once he was outside of the ‘main area’ she’d flip a few switches, referencing the clipboard she had halfway through to make sure she had the right settings, and finally-
Portions of the floor opened up, some outright flipped around to reveal a different terrain style on the flipside. In a U shape an obstacle course had been created, starting with a balancing beam, a tire-set, a swing rope, and seeming to evolve into more complex and difficult obstacles towards the end. Hitting a straight wall climb in the middle and ending in a multiple rope swing.
“Well here we go then. Welcome to your initiation.~” She hit another switch and showed the young demon a clock that was ready to start counting on the control board she was holding, leaning back against the side of the bleachers, the use of the cart of rocks still unclear. “Don’t worry if you can’t finish, we’re just here to see where you can get to, push your stamina a bit. Why don’t you get started?~”
(the first 3 obstacles are a balancing beam a few meters long, a set of tires for high-knees jogging through them, and then a small wooden ramp leading to a rope swing across)

It was interesting the get some personal training from a teacher. True this was mostly just checking in on what Lewis knew and seeing what he could do, but it was an opportunity he didn't want to waste. He was sure that once he got into his actual classes, there wouldn't be so much one-on-one time with the teachers and instructors.
His eyes followed Mia as she went off to grab a cart. He raised an eyebrow to it, but followed her instructions and backed away. Lewis wondered to himself what exactly some rocks and a small metal box could possibly have to do with the training, but he knew not to question instructors. They got those positions for a reason. Just like with his boxing coach, it was always best to trust the process. Students were students and teachers were teachers; they knew what they were doing.
His eyes widened as the floor opened. Well, that was something new, something he had never seen before. The floor raised into an obstacle course and Lewis tried to take it all in at once. It was a lot though. Very impressive nonetheless though. His head turned to her and then to the giant timer. So he was being timed, but asked not to push himself through it. It was just a test to see what he could do. If there was a timer though, there was a top time; someone who was the fastest in finishing the course.
Knowing what he knew about training and practices, he knew there was no point to gun for the top spot. The point when first doing an obstacle course was to see if you could even do it. His eyes wandered the field ahead of him and his mind tried to figure out a plan of action. Perhaps just going for it would be the best.
Jogging over to the start, Lewis took a few steps out onto the balancing beams. Wobbling slightly, his tail flicked out to the opposite direction to help him balance. After taking a second to regain his balance, his tail flicked again to run straight behind him. As he continued over the beam, his tail twitched slightly, fixing his balance as he needed. Springing off of the beams, he rushed over to the tires and bounded through them with more ease than the balancing beam. He had done tire-runs before, they were something of a key exercise when he was learning to box. They were good at working out his legs which helped him get in quickly when boxing. Lastly though was the rope and as Lewis took one and swung out, he noticed he wasn't lined up to the platform. He dropped himself back onto the board, his tail flicking again to help him catch himself onto the platform. He watched as the rope swung back and his nearly monotone eyes took in the obstacle ahead of him. This really shouldn't have been a hard task to complete. It was just a platform-rope-platform type task, but the platforms were fairly narrow. While he had some strong legs, and good at multiple track events including longjump, his quirk wasn't strength based. He couldn't just leap over.
After his pause to take in his options, he shook his head. There was really just one option and that was to swing. He took another second to remember the path he took initially that caused him to swing wide and adjusted his course. Running out, he leaped and grabbed the rope, swinging himself to the otherside with far more ease than the initial attempt. Though he had completely the first three tasks, there was some frustration on his face. It really shouldn't have taken him so long.

With the timer started and Lewis off on the track Mia leaned back against the railing beside the bleachers where students would often act as eachother’s audience for fights or other training sessions. The kid seemed quick on his feet, no indications of anything super human just yet but he at least seemed to be in good shape and knew what he was doing. The tire run especially seemed to run by fast, Mia idly tossing a pebble between her hands as she watched.
The rope swing seemed to cause a little more issue as he just misjudged his jump, chuckling a little but making an effort to lower her head and be discreet about it, shaking her head and leaning back more comfortably into the railing, her bright red gaze following him as he moved onto the next set of obstacles.
There was a long stretch of obstacles infront of him now, a little disorganized with no key path through them, elevated platforms leading into the next with a small hop, some long stretches of seemingly empty path for a bit of a sprint up to the next set of obstacles.
Mia picked up her little controller, and flipped a switch. Among the obstacles, some high up needing him to climb the obstacles to reach them, some simply on a left-right zig zag pattern on an empty stretch, popped up wooden silhouettes with red crosses in a red circle painted in the center of their chest and the center of their heads. Perhaps not the most perfect places for a hero to aim but… well this was just an obstacle course to test his reactions. Mia called out- “Every target you don’t hit is an extra 5 seconds!~ Lemme get the first one for ya.~” Finally revealing the purpose of the stones, Mia tossed it up in the air, and caught it before rearing back into a pitch. Despite the size of the projectile, the force was definitely clear as it would whip past Lewis’ head, shattering the closes wooden cutout entirely and leaving Mia with a wide ass grin as she picked up the next pebble, the first hitting the opposing wall with enough force to be embedded within it.
“Consider this part of the obstacle too! Enemy fire!~”
The next throw would have speed behind it but the projectile wouldn’t hit nearly as hard. If Lewis was foolish enough to stay still and let any of the projectiles hit him they’d be enough to leave the sensation of a bruise to form later, but nothing that would truly be fatal or long term damage. Was it proper to throw stones at a kid? Probably not… but it was motivating, and kinda fun.~ “Keep it movin’ kid!~ I ain’t so good with moving targets!~”
(effectively a haphazard obstacle segment with targets to hit as you make your way through, while Mia’s pelting stones after you.)

Lewis, while a skilled athlete in the general sense, still wasn't perfect. The young teen had flaws, flaws that he worked on correcting every day. To him, if he had nothing to improve, then he had no reason to wake up. To be better than he was the day before was always his goal. Even with his struggles with some of the obstacles that the teacher had thrown at him, he knew to make a mental note of what had transpired. Keeping a mental log of what he had done well and what he hadn't would let him know what he had to work on in the future.
As Lewis took in the next set he had to make his way through, he listened carefully to Mia's instructions. It all seemed relatively straight forward enough, even with the added projectiles. Showing the targets were meant to be destroyed, the teacher had shown a willingness to toss rocks around. Lewis took another look at the track before his solid eyes caught a rock coming at him. His body twitched and he quickly ducked before he bolted forward.
Lewis darted towards the climbing section first. As he ran, a wooden dummy came up and he quickly sent a fist towards the dot. As he neared the first climbing section, his digitigrade legs bent and sprung him upwards. The legs provided him a bit more versatility with his movement, and as he latched onto the climbing wall, a small burst of fire engulfed another target that had popped out. Reaching the top with a fair bit of ease, Lewis gave a few more quick jabbing blows to the targets he had needed to reach at the top.
Following on from that, he jumped down and made his way to the zig-zag section, all the while twitching, jumping, ducking, and generally reacting quickly to the rocks being tossed his way. The zig-zag run seemed to prove even easier for the young teen as his tail once more helped him keep his balance, and even at one point whipping at a target that had popped up. As Lewis neared the end of this course as well, a few more dummies appeared and Lewis swung his head back before another burst of fire spewed forward at the targets.
He felt pretty confident with that run, it felt a bit better than the last bit. It had felt like it had went far smoother to him.
