For her first real combat classes, officially sanctioned by her new role as a combat teacher, Mia wanted to do something simple. She'd felt like in the past years during the tournaments, some animosity tended to leak into the fights, but she just wanted to see what these kids could do off their own backs as fighters, especially when competing against a fellow student, or against circumstances, that put them at roughly equal footing. Now she wasn't a genius or anything she knew that readily enough... but she felt like she had enough battle instinct from watching these kids to come up with some strong pairings out of those who'd ended up signing up.
Today's pairing wasn't something she could readily comment on. While both students had definitely been around enough to have at least some classes there wasn't much she could work with for the first years. They didn't tend to sign up for her combat classes when she had them in the past and the only thing she really knew about these students personally is the Yuhiko kid could be a bit of an arrogant ass in the chatroom for the school. She wasn't about to hold it against him, but it was still literally the only thing she knew about either of them.
Still... new students, up and coming heroes? She was happy to see what they might be capable of. She'd tried to design an arena that should lend neither of them an advantage so she could see what they were made of. She let them both get into training gear, or full hero costumes if they preferred to, and waited for them in the main room. The Saikyuen building, designed to basicakky make up elaborate training scenarios, was happy to indulge Mia a bit when she came up with more ridiculous ideas. While no Japanese hero was likely to do combat in a rain forest, that was exactly what Mia had requested, and with how much she used their services, that was what she got.
Both students would enter at opposite ends of the arena. There was enough foliage they couldn't see eachother, but enough of a gap in the branches that they could see the higher platform jutting out of the wall that Redhorn herself was sitting on cross legged, smiling down at each of them briefly.
"Okay newblood. I don't feel like either of you deserve a handicap for this so we'll see how you handle this on your own. The envrionment is pretty simple I hope but... oh. Right. Can't call it a rainforest without a bit of rain huh?" With the press of a button, some heavy duty sprinklers were set off from the roof, thick water droplets hitting the branches and dripping down from there. The water was a little warm if only to make sure no one got too uncomfortable once they came out of here. It was winter afterall, but mostly it was for atmosphere.
"Now, each of you has an opponent at the other end of this room. At the end of the day, this is just a sparring session to loosen up with a new year. So, chins up, heads clear. Have some fun, and show me what ya got!~"

♔For someone who usually preferred to operate alone and keep away from any distractions, Yuhiko had found himself being occupied by his classmates. It began when his original class 1-B teacher had made a certain arrangement with the class president. Make an effort to try and help his fellow classmates. Even if he could not get along with most of them, he still had to at least try to work with them, or risk forfeiting his role of class president to the vice president Kiersa. Naturally, Yuhiko would not back away from this challenge. If his role of class president meant that he needed to make sure that none of his fellow students were left behind, then Yuhiko would accept having to slow down his own progress in order to ensure that the others could keep up with him.
However, even with that hero not being around anymore to teach class 1-B, Yuhiko still did his best to uphold the deal he had made with his former teacher. It would have been easy for someone like the Yuzuki heir to go back to his old ways, of resuming his selfish and isolationist policy. But no. Yuhiko was not like that. He was asked to step up to the challenge, and nothing could ever make him back down. Even with the teacher being gone for reasons Yuhiko neither knew nor cared enough to ask, Yuhiko would continue to do his best as class president. He would try to assist his classmates if any of them risked falling behind, he would offer to help anyone who wanted his help, he would make sure that everyone in class fulfilled their duties, and he would give a stern lecture to those who did not look like they were taking their time in UA seriously enough.
Yuhiko was of course not perfect. There was much room for improvement in several areas. For instance, he definitely needed to actually try and interact with his fellow classmates in a manner that didn't involve schoolwork. He still refused to casually spend time with anyone, preferring to only interact with students if he needed to, distancing himself from them otherwise. He could also stand to be less cold and harsh to others. The point, however, was that Yuhiko was actually trying. He wanted to be a good class president. He wanted to make sure that the rest of class 1-B stood with him at the top, even if it meant forcibly dragging along the less than hardworking students. He wanted to do whatever he could to help those he could, even the ones who did not want his help. Compared to the person he was at the beginning of the year, Yuhiko had certainly changed. Perhaps not very noticeably to those who did not know him very well, but progress was indeed there.
So what was the point? It was simple. Yuhiko was spending more and more time trying his best to keep his class together. However, it came at the cost of having less and less time to focus on improving himself. He felt that his own progress was slowing to a painfully slow crawl. This was unacceptable! Despite his duties of class 1-B's president and a member of the Disciplinary Committee, Yuhiko could not allow himself to fall behind. He had made a deal with his father. To come out on top as the strongest and best hero to come out of UA, or be exiled if he failed. Yuhiko refused to break his word that he would succeed. He refused to allow anything to jeopardize his chances of rising to the top. He needed to make some time to train himself, to better himself. He refused to be cast aside and thrown out of the Yuzuki home.
This was why when Red Horn offered a combat class, Yuhiko immediately signed up. Any opportunity to improve himself via combat was one he would always immediately seize whenever possible. There weren't many opportunities to really let loose after the whole zombie fiasco, so Yuhiko was looking forward to this. He did not care who his opponent was. The Yuzuki heir would do his best to crush his opponent with overwhelming (but no unnecessary) force. It would feel insulting to have to hold back, so Yuhiko wished for an opponent who could keep up with him. Someone who could give him an acceptable challenge, or at least someone who did not break so easily.
Curiously enough, his opponent would end up being a fellow classmate of his. Not that Yuhiko personally knew his classmates particularly well (at least not outside class), but at least he would not be going in completely blind. I suppose this is fine, Yuhiko thought to himself. There are certainly far worse I could have had the misfortune of being paired up with. From his class, he was not too fond of Amare. He was not the fondest of Kyouko either, though at least the zombie fiasco had shown that she at least was competent and reliable when she wasn't being insufferably annoying. Then there were the many students outside of his class. The ones that Yuhiko was glad he did not need to waste any effort in trying to remember their names, like that one annoying plebeian, that other annoying commoner, the other other annoying worthless trash, and so on. If he had to face off against any of them... Why exactly did UA let just about anyone in? Surely there ought to be some standards?
But that was neither here nor there. It was time to get this fight started. Seeing as his hero outfit was still being crafted and worked on, Yuhiko had arrived dressed in his gym clothes. These were more than sufficient for him. He also wore some simple white gloves. These were not done out of a sense of fashion, but rather to hide his gems once he activated his quirk. Though his bangs covered the emerald that would appear on his forehead, the ruby and sapphire on his hands would need to be covered. Yuhiko was never one who liked to openly talk about the true nature of his quirk. He did not trust the other students. In his opinion, most of them would either drop out and become worthless delinquents, or they would be stupid enough to blab about vital information to anyone, including any potential villains who wanted intel on UA and its heroes in the making. The less people that knew how exactly his quirk functioned, the better.
Upon listening to the heroine's words and ignoring the fake rain, Yuhiko simply nodded once as he crossed his arms, his facial expression as stoic and hard to read as always. "Understood." He did not feel like wasting words. He just wanted to get this over with. "Well, whenever you're ready." Yuhiko called out to his opponent from across the arena. It did not matter whether Yuhiko started the fight or he let his opponent make the first move. At the end of the day, what mattered was the end result. Yuhiko would do his best to showcase his own power and use it to emerge victorious. Not that losing would be particularly detrimental, as it could show just where Yuhiko needed to improve. As someone once said, there are no lessons in victory, but a thousand in defeat.
Regardless of the battle's outcome, Yuhiko would definitely gain something out of it. Would that would be the satisfaction of triumphantly overpowering his opponent, or insight on how much more training was needed to better himself? There was only one way to find out.

Today was different. I wasn't walking through the hallways to class like I normally would be at this time. I wasn't walking through the hallways of the giant school, memorizing my way the same as you do any dance routine, walking the same steps I would any day. But now there was a new dance, a new routine for me, and I couldn't help but smile at the prospect of this. What type of smile it was I couldn't say, whether it was the smile that always turned people off, that people always seemed unnerved by, or whether it was a smile that people were surprised at how normal it looked. I still can't tell, still don't know the difference, but that wasn't important. In the end I'd follow the same steps either way, the same part, the same routine. At least, until I get to where I was heading. To the combat arena, where the dance would change from one of normal if not monotony to one of something completely different. Battle, combat, the thought of which made me realize my smile was getting bigger. It was exciting, I couldn't lie. We haven't yet fought against anyone, done anything beyond gym and minor combat classes, even everyone else's quirks were more mysterious than not. I didn't even really have a hero suit, which is why I entered in training gear. The gym clothes that we used in training, mine only having the adjustment of being shorts and a t shirt. I wasn't particularly bothered by cold, even in this weather.
But thankfully I didn't have to even worry about that too much, at least not at the moment. And that was because I was on a bus, being taken...somewhere. Beyond that it was for the combat class that one teacher made, I didn't really know where I was going. But that didn't matter, the steps in this dance would be the same, even if the location of the dance was different. I could feel my feet swaying underneath me as I sat on my seat, abesentmindedly kicking them about. And the reason for such excitement was obvious, and I was staring right at him. The perfect boy, with his perfect hair, and his perfectly kempt looks, and perfectly disinterested expression, was sitting across from me. Which meant that soon I'd be facing off against perfection. I felt my smile get even bigger, though I still was unsure on whether it was a "good" smile or not. But that didn't change anything, nor did it really matter as I hopped out of my seat and waltzed over to where the perfect boy, Yuhiko sat. And just as when greeting him in class, I bowed. Not a stuffy, Japanese bow, but a bow fit for theatre, filled with flourish and grace. And upon finishing I'd take a seat directly next to him, just like class. So, The Player is going up against perfection himself~ I had no expectations of the conversation, no expectations of responses. Just the same as in class. But I didn't need any of that, talking to perfection was an award in itself. I'm surprised. I'd have thought someone as prepared as you would have a hero costume. Right now you're looking almost as imperfect as me. I felt my smile grow wider at the joke, a giggle escaping. As if that were possible, you becoming anything less than perfect. If anything you've only become more so, opening your heart to everyone else, helping those falling behind. A true model of a class president~
And that was how the rest of the ride went, me talking more at him than to him, him not caring enough either way to have me stop or engage, and soon enough we arrived at our destination. And then we were taken to our respective corners, as it were. And the entrance was something to behold, a bona fide rainforest built in the arena. The budget of UA never ceased to impress. But soon a voice interrupted my thoughts, a familiar voice, our teachers voice. Up above in a tower just visible through the branches, And she explained how this was an equal footing match, she then proceeded to turn on the rain. I reached out my hand, feeling the warm water run down my palm and soon the rest of me. It wasn't uncomfortable, it felt more like bathwater than anything else. But soon Red Horn finished her speech, and in acknowledgment I gave the same bow I did earlier to Yuhiko, surprisingly using even less words than the notoriously taciturn boy. But that wouldn't be the same case when being given the ready by the perfect boy, I nodded to myself in the thick foliage. The Player is always ready for the dance~ And soon I felt the smile on my face again, but this time I actually was pretty sure what type of smile it was. And it wasn't the "good" one.

Mia had meant for her initial call out to the two to be a decleration of combat. The signalling horn for them to rush into the undergrowth and find eachother to do combat, but it seemed that would not be the case. Yuhiko seemed like he was checking the other was ready and Fox was just confirming that himself. A sigh left Mia as she sat cross legged on her little platform, her elbow resting on a knee and her cheek sinking into her hands. Really this was the first fight she'd managed out of these that didn't in some way kick right to the action.
"Yo, you two are pretty much ready to go ya know. I mean if it helps you're at opposite ends of the room so get running and find eachother." She called out, not shouting but definitely loud enough for the two of them to hear seperately, another tired huff of air leaving her. Maybe she shouldn't have asked for such a dense forest but she thought it was a fun unique environment for the two of them to enjoy and loosen up in... though Fox's screw loose and Yuhiko's stick up his ass may have made that a bad choice...
