APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Shinme is what you would call a classic Japanese-style pretty boy. With his half Japanese and half Chinese origins, he inherited a slender and light complexion, smooth skin and rich black hair. He grew that hair out long and keeps it in a high ponytail, often tied by a red ribbon or another kind of ornament. Once dressed in any kind of traditional Asian clothing, he seems like a person right out of a historical drama.
It is rare to see him without a grin or smile, and even the air around him seems to be light and cheerful no matter where he goes. Wearing a huge scarf around his shoulders, or a haori on him became a trademark, as he prefers clothes the wind can catch into. Is it for dramatic effect? Who knows, who knows. Oddly enough, being generally optimistic and energetic, he still prefers to wear black or at least mostly dark colors. True enough, it matches his hair at least.
POSITIVE
✔ Passionate, resilient, witty, charismatic, intelligent, loving
NEGATIVE
✖ Capricious, cunning, dramatic, eccentric, unpredictable, vain
LIKES
✔ Honey, nighttime, freedom, incense, birds, mysteries, wind chimes, singing, dim nightlamps
DISLIKES
✖ Chains, coffee, regulations, winter, tangled hair, politics, bloody horror movies, hunger
Personality:
Much like the wind itself, Shinme is free-spirited and carefree, someone with a nearly inextinguishable optimism. With a healthy dose of confidence, he barely has trouble getting into a friendly conversation or making new acquaintances in an unfamiliar environment. His optimism is even contagious, often enough he can rile people up just with his cheerful aura and being the general ray of sunshine in a room. His name couldn’t even be more fitting: he is the heart or a group, the brightness, the dreamer, one who makes sure everyone is safe and protected, everyone gets the best of the experience. His struggles aren’t always worth it all, but he was never one to be discouraged by failures. He is not afraid to give voice to his thoughts even if it would ridicule others. Acting the way he does, people often underestimate his intelligence, and will find themselves on the wrong end of his witty tongue.
He has a bit of a flair for dramatics, sometimes over-playing nonexistent issues and hiding his real problems just to make sure no one is inconvenienced by him. One of his greatest flaws is maybe his unpredictability. He always has a trick or two up his sleeve to make people surprised, and cause unnecessary trouble just to keep his heart pumping and breath going. The problem is, he often doesn’t learn from mistakes and is willing to walk into danger just for a little praise and a good image. Similarly, he doesn’t care about his status or well-being if it means he can do good and can satisfy his need for justice.
Overall, sadly, he is a bit too much to handle, and he is aware that some people don’t have enough energy to deal with him. He doesn’t always notice when he is being too annoying but won’t get heartbroken over being told to tone his face down. He can get an emotional distance between himself and his peers, but when he is attached, he is too deeply involved, immersed so much like a deprived cat that sticks to the leg of his owner all day.

HISTORY
Shinme’s life was surrounded by a weird mix of mysticism and politics, being born to a Chinese mother and Japanese father. Despite being entirely different both in occupation and personality, the parents were happy, and so, Shinme was brought up in a loving and warm environment as the only child of the couple. Being of mixed origins, aside from his Japanese name (Kagaya Shinme 輝心夢), he got a Chinese name as well (Liang Xin 亮心), which is usually used by the Chinese branch of the family, and sometimes by his mother at home. It is an almost literal translation of his Japanese name.
His mother was a nurse, and had a voice that could heal the wounds and exhaustion of others. It was a beautiful quirk, just like her, and the softness she showed charmed even those who were suspicious of quirkers. She taught Shinme kindness, appreciation for life, strength to overcome hardships, and pride in his own self. She helped him hone his abilities not only of his quirk, but of his singing and other talents too. It was her, and his family on his mother’s side that helped him learn more of his quirk, as his Chinese ascendants were always more tolerant toward mysticism and quirkers.
His father was a rare breed of politician who had good intentions and aspired to keep his promises. He started as an officer at the local bureau, but quickly climbed the ladder due to his popularity, and planned to run for a higher status in the local government office. His father taught Shinme to be clever, to question everything, to be able to see the bigger picture, to be honest. His father was quirkless, but that never stopped him from standing up to this new generation of humans and to try to understand them. Not everyone in the family shared his views, but his father had the determination to make life easier for his son and children similar to him.
Shinme was a bit more than ten years old when his father started gaining the attention of the wrong kind of people. People that were closely tied with the underground, and did not stop at underhanded methods to trample their competition. But they did not target the politician directly; instead, they decided to kidnap his kid.
The boy had spent four days in capture before a brave vigilante and the police finally found and freed him. He was sent to hospital to recover from malnutrition and to heal his internal and external wounds. Things were not so happy after that. Shinme was struggling with adjusting to everyday life to the point where he was unable to go back to school and had to be home-schooled instead. His father’s protectiveness and his mother’s healing quirk were unable to heal wounds invisible to the eye, and so, the boy had to make do himself. His brain decided to omit the memories that made him too scared and sad to function, so about two years worth of memories were sieved through and partially rewritten. There is a gap between the age of ten and twelve, but he is hardly aware of it, as anything that would trigger it is conveniently masked by his mind still.
His parents thought it was for the best, although the Chinese branch of the family knew a confrontation would happen sooner or later. They were only hoping he will be ready to accept the memories once the time comes. His father was even more determined to continue with his work, but this time being more conscious of his associates and enemies.
After that, Shinme started to grow somewhat disobedient, considering rules and regulations to be shackles and chains, but despite that, he tried his best to remain true to himself. His mother was still proud of him, his father was still protective of him, and Shinme was still the same cheerful and spoiled child, only lacking a crucial part of his childhood memories, barely feeling like certain puzzle pieces don’t fit the picture.
School was a hit-and-miss for him. He regularly questioned the teachers, and whenever someone wanted to pick at him for being a spoiled, useless child, he verbally retaliated until it earned him detention for getting into a fight (note: he never hit first, but sure as hell provoked the other side to hit him). The fact he was sometimes excused from school when his mother brought him to talent shows and song recordings to try it out as a career didn’t help his relationship with the more vicious of his peers. Overall he was quite popular for his looks and charming personality, but there is always someone who is bothered by that, even.
He always wanted to do good. Save people like his mother, aspire to protect others like his father, but he was no healer, nor fit to be a politician. His quirk was, however, good enough to try out becoming a hero. His parents were worried, but when they realized it was more than a phase, more than the fleeting passion of a spoiled child, they enrolled him into U.A.
