IT'S SHOWTIME!
Well...things certainly went in a direction with Serizawa-san...did they not?
Either way...he wanted to get a book for his son before they took the train back to Tokyo as a little surprise...and help the poor thing calm his nerves for unfortunate things to come. Since it was unavoidable, the least they could do was prepare as best as they could...the future was going to be a better place. Ah....it would take work and time...one day, he wouldn't have to rely so heavily on others to pick up his slack. Until then, this would have to be enough...relying on an experienced vigilante who knew the ropes and could handle the situation. As long as his son survived and as many of those children could be saved...that would have to be enough...
Damage control on his end...it's all he could do for his son and the vigilantes.
Carefully entering the store with a grin, he held up a hand and waved at no one in particular as the show of his life went on. "Good after noon~!" As the door closed behind him, his ruby red optics centered by pink irises and slits for pupils glanced around...huh. Looked a...uh...little...grim. Bringing his hand up to his mouth to clear his throat, he figured it may be best to cut to the chase...cause...er...this place looked like it might have what he was looking for! "My good shop keeping sir of books galore~! Do you by any chance have anything about plants~? Medicinal plants, to be exact, herbal remedies and the like~"
Fidgeting and twitching his ears as he listened to all the little sounds around and about the place, did...he hear chimes or something like it...? HM...curious!

It wasn't a particularly busy day today. It seemed cloudy outside and at any given point in time, it might rain soon. Mamoru was working alone, the most he needed people after school hours as it could be busy after school hours and he needed people at the weekend. It would be nice to have an assistant during some parts of the days but he couldn't pay yet for everything at that point. It was already going well with the delivery service but he needed to get the money portion out of the investment. That would happen eventually, but it would take time. He was glad that they now had a website and that everything seemed to go well but he should learn how to do better. Maybe work on workshops here, what would people like? What would he like, spending more time with people did not always seem like a great idea. As well as that it depended on the person. He could do calligraphy, he could do research courses because he was rather good at that. Poetry? Just literature readings or something, a book club? Were people actually interested in that with strangers and meet up here? Maybe he should rebuild, but he needed money for that.
He was looking at the laptop that he had sort of installed at the corner of the desk that he used for the cash register and the other register, such as writing down which books he sold. He did that by hand, he could, of course, do it on the laptop but he used that for literally only the online requests and financial support from the government. Mamoru looked up though when someone greeted the people in the store, seeing as he was the only one in there, really shitty visiting hour, he was the one inclined to reply. What a showman, certainly a surprise to see such a person in the book store, but then again you should not judge a book by its cover. Everyone could like some sort of book, you just had to fight your right type and everyone could buy books for people they like.
Mamoru thought for a second, healing herbs? Medical herbs? Hm. "Depends on how you want it, so to say?" Do they wanted just flowers, did they want it in the green magic type of way, because that would be in the back of the shop. But he came around the desk that he used and beckoned the customer to walk with him to come and look at the section of biology. The section wasn't that big and he winced at it, maybe he should pick up the other books. There was not much here that was just healing or medicine from plants. "Second, I think I have something in the back." The Occult shop wasn't exactly hidden but not everyone was exactly happy or open to visit such stores so he would get it himself. The thick book was literally called Green Magic, while the smaller was called the language of flowers. He liked the smaller one more, as it was about the size of a neat looking notebook and had room for scribbles. He took it with him and put them on the desk in the bookstore. "These might be better?"

IT'S SHOWTIME!
Curious...
Quite curious...it wasn't exactly the reaction he'd anticipated since most book stores had a larger variety and he supposed that something more typical would work out if all else fails. Yet, he was truly hoping for some sort of book that would aid in distracting Natsu's mind by learning something new, you know, rather than a refresher on things he already knew. It would be the most productive thing he could do for his child...plus...admittedly, it was finally striking his nerves about how he kind of sort of cornered a seasoned vigilante and enlisted her for assistance. Well, that damn orphanage would be gone and the children would be saved, that's all that mattered to him. Taking in a deep breath as the blonde walked off, he let out a soft sigh while letting his eyes drift around the store.
Quaint, cute and reminded him of some older photos of Victorian homes for some reason. The scents were a little over powering for him the longer he lingered...but it kept his mind busy from fatherly worry all the same. Instead, his mind was trying to pin point what was what like it happened to be some sort of game...but it came to an end as the shop keeper returned with two sets of books from the area where the aromatic scents seemed to originate from. Slowly, he looked toward the counter and replayed the image of the place within his mind. There weren't too many people here...were there...?
Swiveling his ears about for a moment as one remained directed toward the blonde, he lightly tilt his head and narrowed his eyes thoughtfully upon the confirmed revelation that either it was a slow day...or this was a struggling business. "Ah ha~! These look like lovely options...much better~" Carefully, he opened the two books and glanced between them...trying to settle on a choice. Now, he wasn't going to bar his son from learning about the occult, in fact...these seemed to have a hint of Wiccan influence in their writing. They were respectful of nature and their views were rather fascinating, how they tied magic to herbal remedies and spells...
"...you seem to be a bright fellow who knows his craft...how long have you been in business here~?" If he wanted to, truly wanted to...he could get that answer himself with enough time and research...but that wasn't necessary today. Besides, it was far more interesting to hear the perspective of this young man and attempt to strike up some friendly conversation. After all, this store was without a doubt on the newer side...just a question of how new, a polite way of gauging how much business help he may need. Seeing as he recently took the mantle of ownership for Wonderland Radio after all these years, he may as well try to help other businesses thrive...

Though the hint of wiccan in the writing of the plant books was mild, and still could explain most of the old knowledge of how herb healing did work. He himself was interested in it as a child, but had not used it too often. It was surprising for a boy or now a young man with no green fingers at all to be able to keep the herb garden alive and to be able to keep the herb shop so to say alive as well. For as long as people needed it, he would provide, he wouldn't really be or have that much as an apothecary and he wouldn't have everything, you could also buy fresh mint here or rosemary but it was just everything and a bit of nothing at the same time. He hated how dull these moments were where most people were at work and yet he had to keep his shop open, he vouched to keep the shop open for longer hours as he had nothing to do in the evening anyway but it was... He did not actually know what it was, maybe dull? Stupid? Pathetic, everything to make his shop running? He was wondering if he was doing the right thing and then he realized the strange conversation from a few days ago.
Right, not now, he was being talked to and he had to answer the questions. "They have more in the index and the remedies that you might look for are in an index in the back, in both options." Though the flower one of course much smaller than the one with all sorts of herbs, plants, vegetables even. As the man inspected both books, Mamoru wondered if he should have done so when the previous customer had mentioned a herb or spice actually that he did not know. It was maybe a sort of mandrake he had not heard about, from Europe maybe? Spain most likely. "Oh, this hasn't been around that long, six months maybe?" Was six months long for a store, "It was a herb shop before. From my parents and it took a bit to redecorate and get the books." You did not start a bookstore out of nothing or an occult one for that matter. He took the bigger book and went to look at the index, "Mind you some customer mentioned a spice I did not know." He knew a lot of things, was actually proud of remembering and knowing quite a few things but seriously, "Spanish spice." He muttered under his breath while trying to find it, did it even exist?

IT'S SHOWTIME!
Carefully flipping through the pages, he immediately stopped what he was doing as the man spoke...quickly directing himself simultaneously to the index sections and calmly allowed the thoughtful words to roll off his tongue, "Oh ho~...so it is~" Both of these books actually seemed ideal to be quite frank, so perhaps he'd just get them both for Natsu to enjoy since it seemed as though there was something unique and different to each. To him, this was more like an investment in his son's well-being and happiness. When he mentioned what this shop used to be, it explained why, precisely, it wasn't something he noticed or recalled off the bat...more so since he rarely found himself in Musutafu unless it was for some sort of business. Things were changing in his life from this point on though...that much was certain since he made some choices and there was no turning back...everything had a consequence and he picked what he felt was best.
That's all he could do was tell himself he did what was right...which beyond reasonable doubt, yes it was.
"Mmm...I'm sure the business will do well since it has roots from its origins~!" Beaming with a bright smile, he was about to close the books but froze in place when the larger book was taken and he rapidly blinked a few times, "Spanish spice, you say~?" This sounded like an elaborate ruse of some kind! Chuckling softly, he took the smaller book and began scanning the index...not finding anything about Spanish spice. "I wonder...do you think, perhaps it isn't necessarily something we could find in these books...but more along the lines of a home made mixture~?" Lightly tilting his head, his ears twitched slightly before continuing on his little train of thought, "Why...it could even be a home made tea~! OH HO~! OR~! Even a special home made mix for seasonings that's a blend of Spanish spices~!"
This tall gentleman was more about making custom blends of tea, but it sounded pretty plausible in his head, especially with some of the stuff he'd purchased from folks as a fund raiser, so of course he was rather enthused by the potential notion that someone was creative enough to make a tasty combination to season food!

He was explaining the books, he preferred the Wiccan books for this particular reason, as if biologists thought you would find everything with thinking straight, but yet they did not even write it all in alphabetic order and sometimes used Latin names, not every idiot knew the Latin names of herbs and flowers, not even Mamoru and he studied it from time to time. It was definitely Mamoru's bias showing. He was glad to hear that the business would do well, technically it was weird that a stranger telling him that was giving him some confidence, but he needed to hear it from new customers with the full intention and full hope that they might return one day. But indeed, the roots were here and old people still read books the most instead of all those internet things, though he sold things for that too, another pretty easy invention after having a website. One day Mamoru would be modern, he just hated the idea.
"I think so," he mused when Finn out loud said it might be a Spanish mixture of herbs of some sort. "It's just and I quote that a customer said his friend was taking too much Spanish spice and it was making her sick. And I did not really know what he meant, surely it wasn't part of the conversation of he was looking for, but now that you are looking at those books it reminded me that I wanted to look it up. But indeed it's not in here, it must be something someone made from a mixture or so." But he did not know any particular Spanish spices, then again he had never been to Spain or colonies of Spain... let's not go that way. "Hm, I wonder what would be in that, but it was just a rouse of interest, sorry." He apologized for using the book he was about to sell for something completely different, it was a little silly like that.

IT'S SHOWTIME!
With a soft chuckle, he gently tapped his chin thoughtfully while taking a moment to think about it...mellowing out a bit from that little hint of theatrics rolling into the moment. The grin resting across his lips wasn't one of a mocking nature or origin, no no...it was more...how interesting upon the revelation of realizing that this person was making themselves sick with this alleged Spanish spice. Making oneself sick never really struck him as smart, like a child consuming candy until they felt ill. Save for the fact that whoever he was speaking of didn't sound like a child, but an adult who should be making better life choices...curious....
"Now, one must ask themselves...why would someone continue to consume something that makes them sick...?" Closing the book, he then brought out his phone, adjusting his monocle before resting his gaze upon the screen and moved his hand away from his chin to calmly tip and tap his claws upon the keyboard. "Saffron, salt, paprika, parsley, cayenne pepper and bay leaf...these appear to be popular in Spanish foods~" With a couple of light twitches of his ears, he lifted his gaze from the screen while arching a brow. "A business owner who cares so much about their customers that even when they're gone, still, a problem they mentioned is on the mind, looking for a solution...a rare trait if I must say so myself~"
Glancing back toward the phone, he spoke in a calm fashion, "...may I, perhaps make you an offer~?" This store was empty and a business needed customers to survive...did it not?

Actually did the customer, Kozue, had he said something about consuming it? Mamoru tried to be so focused on the details that he wondered about it and he shouldn't. It wasn't his concern, it wasn't his business even but the fact that the man had asked him out almost straight after had been well... that day specifically had been on his mind. It wasn't that he exactly had many dates, he had always had eyes for Sohma only and that had not gone great and he wasn't sure if he ever tried again or just jumped in work and focused on that. He was not the type to straight up ask people after being denied anyway. He didn't want to remember that but followed the example of this customer and closed the thick book he was using and looked up as he went to probably use a search machine on his phone. He frowned, with the realisation of the herbs and spices that were used in the Spanish foods and kitchens, "I wouldn't say they are particularly bad to make you sick, though swallowing bay leaf is not something I would recommend, I must have heard it wrong or it was maybe a joke with the friend this customer was talking about." Maybe he could ask him, when they would meet up again. Or would it be stupid to show he had been thinking about it? That would make him nervous and he did not like that feeling.
Which was why Mamoru took a deep breath and looked back up to Finn. He could not help but feel a little embarrassed or maybe bashful when this customer pointed out what he was doing. "Maybe it's just curiosity." He muttered because that was something for certain, "In case they come back I might have a better answer." Or an answer at all but in this case, he was sure the question wasn't about that. Kozue had looked amused about his friend's reaction to Spanish Spice. Wait maybe he was mixing up things, "I should maybe not be so curious about it, it was just something that jumped back in my mind after looking at the herbs and flower book." Before he finished his sentence he just noticed the look at the man's face and he wondered what was going on and he crossed his arms in front of his chest. Time to protect himself. He noticed Karasu on the top of the closest bookshelf glaring at Finn. It was probably the territorial feeling that Karasu had but Mamoru wasn't sure what to say. "An offer you say?" What would he have to say about that, he wasn't sure if he was open to any offers but there was no harm in listening to it. "What is it about?" Right playing the open-minded shopkeeper that he was, he wasn't stupid but he was sure this man had already figured that out. He was only as charming as he could be, but not entirely a people's person, was that obvious too?
