IT'S SHOWTIME!
Natsu wouldn't take no for an answer...they were a team, they were supposed to be a team...he promised this solution would be sorted out together, not apart. So be it, they would delve into this rumor together and solve the mystery of whether or not there was any foundation to the rumors regarding none other than the retired actress, Teruko Serizawa. Enough people had said they'd seen the kaiju woman beating the shit out of criminals, but even more insisted that was bullshit and refused to believe that kind lady would do anything. Dedicated fans revoked the rumors and constantly pulled the card of slanderous accusations that could tarnish her life!
Sounded like a damn good drama...
...so good that it may very well be based on fact.
The boy he cared for dearly as his one and only son wasn't exactly keen on this idea of his, but it was all he could do for now. Until he figured out a way to become a vigilante himself without ruining his career...he'd have to count on others for the time being. He'd cover their tracks with his own pull and power, as limited as it may be, he'd support them in that way as much as possible to protect them all. Maybe it wasn't much...but right now, it's all that he had. Connections in the media and a good reputation, he was sure with his own fanbase and that of the actress' own...they could cover the tracks necessary to avoid trouble. He wore his usual suit...after all, it was suspicious to hide and he was a rather talented actor himself. Guiding them to the doors of this fine establishment on the verge of closing...the time was right...
Let the show begin....
Hopefully Natsu remembered the gist of his part so that they had valid reason for being out this late...that he lost his wallet during the lunch rush and they looked all over for it and he couldn't sleep knowing it was gone. It's all he needed to play off of, a simple concept, really...
Reaching his clawed hand up, he gently tapped upon the glass and called out into the dimmed bakery, "Excuse me~! Serizawa-san~? A moment of your time, if you will! My son came here during lunch rush and appears to have misplaced his wallet, I'll make a purchase if I must~" A charming gentleman with a voice that would ring with familiarity if she was one to flip through the radio or podcasts, for the Deer Hatter was at her very doorstep and knew of her...
After all with the glitz, glamor and fame that surrounded the reptilian woman...how could he not know of her...?

But if his father-gosh, it still feels weird to call him that, but it also feels right-but yeah, if his father trusts this lady, he will trust his father's judgment. He has to he needed to. His father keeps going beyond his expectations, and Natsu may be getting a little greedy for this. But he wants his father to surprise him more, and he wants to be selfish and indulge in that the world has good adults and people in it despite everything he has gone through. [break][break] Natsu was admittedly nervous to actively meet an adult he never met and has no reason to trust, but he's putting his trust in his father, and by extension, this woman, who his father believes can help them. Natsu never had much luck with faith in the past, but right now, right here, he is gambling his hope and faith onto this woman who he never met, and thus his gut is telling him to distrust her, but his heart is telling him to give her chance, since the one man he trusted, trusted her. So Natsu is willing to give her a chance. For Finn- his father. [break][break] Natsu may be a naturally forgetful and spacy kid, but when it came to it, he can and will play the part given to him, either it's him playing the bumbling idiot at the St. Marta's hellhole to protect himself and the others. Or to play the part of a forgetful son to his father, which isn't too far off real life. [break][break] When the father-son duo arrived at the bakery-not a place, he expected a badass vigilante to get stationed-and Finn knocked on the window, and Natsu did his best to act all sheepish and shy with his hood up and his covering the scarred section of his face with his hand and facing away from the window. And after his father spoke, Natsu says, "I'm sorry Serizawa-san--- and dad-" Natsu knew how to make it more believable, "I told you before- my Friend Yuki likes to borrow my stuff to prank me by hiding them in weird places and see if I can find it-he went a little too hard this time and-" Natsu said with an annoyed huff before his voice went shaky and he says. "I-I'm sorry dad-" Natsu said as Natsu let out a long sigh. He hopes this works.

CORNERING A RUMOR SINCE THE CAKERY WAS GAINING MORE TRACTION Teruko’s schedule was beginning to readjust itself into something the kaiju was more familiar with. While the day-to-day conduct of the restaurant was facilitated by front-end staff and bussers alike, the evenings were win the solitary, statuesque woman would prepare delicacies for the next day, painstakingly baking the cakes, slicing the tops and setting them on parchment paper before placing them in the freezer to cool. In the morning, she would frost and decorate them (or rather, the small team of bakers would). Thus was the constant ebb and flow of the bakery.
While the cakes baked in the oven in back, Teruko ventured to the front to survey the leftovers, and decide which would be gracious donated to the fountain-dwelling youth outside, and which would be disposed of in the garbage.
The maternal side of Teruko worried that she’d be pushing the young sea-serpent into a pre-diabetic state, with all the sugar she was feeding her—or, at the very least, childhood obesity.
As if a woman of Teruko’s magnitude had the right to concern themselves over anyone else’s weight.
Smiling privately at the self-deprecating humor, Teruko began to remove a few of the cakes from the display case, setting them upon the counter behind her.
There was a rap upon the door. A customer? At this hour? Didn’t they see the CLOSED sign that hung at the vague middle of the door? How about the neon “CLOSED” sign that hummed tiredly in the window?
The gentleman that stood there was all-around thin and crimson. A pair of red ears protruded from the crown of his head—and based-on how they moved, they had to be his actual ears. These were accompanied by antlers.
Beside him, a small, hooded figure, looking contrite.
Teruko wiped her hands upon the apron around her waist, though some flour still stubbornly clung to the crevices of her palms and the ridges of her scales, and she lumbered tiredly towards the door. She kept her keys bound to a chain on her waist, affixed to her pants.
The well-dressed man regaled a story of how his son had left his wallet at the bakery. And, to the man’s credit, he was accompanied by the son.
“No need, honored guest,” Teruko said sweetly, unlocking the door and holding it open, “I already closed the register, anyways. No trouble at all. Please, come in.”
She would hold the door open for both to step through, before letting the door swing shut behind them. She would follow the pair dutifully, her lengthy tail swishing curiously behind her.
The restaurant was clearly closed for the night—seats upended onto tabletops so as to free the floor for mopping—the tables of the booths were immaculately cleaned and all accessories flush with the window. And the restaurant was quiet.
Teruko liked the silence—she wasn’t particularly given to listening to either music or podcasts. So, unfortunately, she was not familiar with the man that stood before her.
When they reached the peak where the two counters met, the crocodilian instructed the pair to, “Wait here, please.”
The kaiju would then step carefully past them, her tail still flicking and curling ponderously behind her, before circling around the short-end of the counter to the space behind the register. What the pair likely could not see, from their vantage point, was a large, plastic tub that resided beneath the register. It was one of those round tubs with nylon hoops on either side, and it was filled partially by various trinkets and articles of clothing that had been left over the last few months. A few wallets were interspersed with these items.
The woman hunkered down onto her haunches, steadying herself with her tail as she slid the tub out
“What’s the wallet look like, kid?” Teruko inquired, pawing through the collection. She would pull a few wallets to the top of the pile, then lift her massive head to survey the child.

IT'S SHOWTIME!
Excellent...
Some people would choose to be offended that they hadn't been recognized and failed to be acknowledged...but that simply made things easier for him. The role of a stranger neglecting the silent notion to leave from the lit neon sign, apologizing that they were closed. "I'll have a chat with young Yuki's parents, this prank was completely uncalled for..." Getting into character wasn't hard, but the real Yuki was honestly a good kid in his books...so there was a twinge of inner guilt dancing about in Finn's thoughts as he rest his hand upon his son's shoulder. Trying to comfort him as they were allowed inside...guiding him along as a concerned parent would, his ears twitching and swiveling about to make sure there was nothing to be concerned of around them. The coast...as far as he could hear...was clear.
With one hand behind his back, much like a gentleman on a stroll, it wasn't obvious as he clicked the lock shut behind him, an apologetic smile across his lips as he spoke over the sound, "Why, thank you for allowing my son and I to seek out his wallet..." It was almost like he'd been speaking to the principal or some sort of authoritative figure...and it remained as the pair walked further into the tidied up store. "...such kindness and generosity...I chose rather well in approaching you for help...Serizawa-san...or, perhaps I should say Queen Kaiju...." Those words remained completely smooth, despite the radio tint to his vocals and he snapped his fingers and gestured toward the hooded boy...
"I've done quite a bit of homework, so denying my statement isn't what I'd call ideal. Especially since...my son's in trouble, this is beyond the law and vigilante justice is all we can rely on in such a delicate situation." Standing upright, he kept a supportive hand upon the boy's shoulder...his tone was gentle and laced with fatherly care, "...now...please explain it to her as best as you can...we need her to understand why this is out of the reach of pro heroes..." Honestly...it was better for the kaiju woman to hear it from the victim himself, the one who suffered and had to watch others suffer...the one who couldn't just walk away from the horrors of that awful place....

[break][break] Natsu kept his head lowered and his scarred up half of his face out of the woman's view. He needed his trump card. To help convince this woman, the father-son heroin scaly armor. Honestly, if Natsu's father were not who he was Natsu, would be taken aback by the woman's strange appearance and size. But despite the kinder and safer environment, Natsu has found himself braver and stronger of willed. He will not back out of this even with this huge scary lady with a billion rows of teeth. Natsu wanted to run away initially, as his internal machinations wanted to run before the people at St. Marta's somehow found him and make his life pain all over again. But with his father's hand on his shoulder and his tone soft and fatherly, Natsu let out a shaky sigh as he started to explain himself. [break][break] "When I was using the train home last week, a woman by the name of Luzia, walked up to me and we chatted, she and I got along- and we even came from the same place- albeit at different times- St. Marta's, she-" Natsu started to speak and he swallowed his fear as he kept talking. "And her husband, Niso, wants to burn it down with other orphans who escaped." Natsu explained, but he stopped as he realized his wording, and Natsu looks up to his father before letting out another sigh. "The woman, Luzia, or as you might better know her as the painter, convinced me to meet her and her husband and a few others for a meeting to burn it down, to end the cycle." Natsu struggled to say the last bit, as he couldn't look the woman in the eyes as firmly as he did at the start. He-has never told an adult this or anybody that wasn't a fellow orphan. [break][break] "The cycle of abuse that rotted the core of St. Marta's and it's children." Natsu said his determination back in full force as he let out a shaky sigh.

CORNERING A RUMOR DECADES OF EXPERIENCE HAD GIVEN the woman her healthy suspicion of others. She couldn’t, of course, place the purpose of the man’s visit—was this a robbery? A small-time villain looking to make a name for themselves by fighting a woman who had, for the past five years, been effectively retired from vigilante work? Regardless of what had brought the odd pair here, when the silver-tongued gentleman dropped the woman’s vigilante moniker, Teruko did not even blink.
The woman rose off of her haunches, unfurling to her full height—which was only marginally taller than the mutant before her. She let the man say his piece, her lip quirking over her shark-like teeth in a tense smile. Perhaps “snarl” was a better way to put it.
“Surely as such a… thorough… person, sir, you realized that a lot of the public attention received by Queen Kaiju dwindled to nothing five years ago,” she said conversationally, holding a hand up to the child as a non-verbal way of insisting that she interrupt him, “I retired from that line of work, in the interest of avoiding prison.”
She wouldn’t try to wriggle her way out of her reputation—it existed for a reason. Many members of the community knew very well of the woman’s wild younger years. Many also knew that she still dealt in favors, but on a much smaller scale than her former endeavors.
“But let it be abundantly clear, before the kid speaks,” Teruko said with finality, “I do still deal in favors. So long as the person requesting the favors ingratiates themselves with me.”
That was fancy-speak for, “Be nice, and I’ll think about helping you”. Perhaps it was the man’s slithering way of speaking, but name-dropping her vigilante identity, and subsequently stating that it’d be “less than ideal” if she didn’t confirm his suspicions, read as intimidation tactics. Or perhaps that was Teruko’s healthy amount of suspicion talking?
Regardless, Teruko was a woman that commanded respect. And if someone she’d graciously let-in to her restaurant after hours was going to take a tone with her, she’d fold them like a goddamn lawn-chair. Cut the crap and tell it straight.
She hunkered down again, as if returning to paw through the bin, but it was also to put herself closer to eye-level with the kid.
“What’s up, kid?” she inquired, letting her gaze drift to the box as she spoke, “Did ya… actually leave a wallet?”
When she lifted her gaze again, he’d lowered his hood, revealing a really nasty scar that’d disfigured a good part of his face. Geez… poor thing was quivering like a leaf.
Some of the tension that Teruko hadn’t been aware of holding in her expression left it. Her face went soft—or, rather, as soft as a crocodilian face could go. She inclined her massive head, and listened.
The boy unraveled a story about a happenstance meeting on a train, of a mutual background, of potential arson. Teruko knew of the name “The Painter”. One of many “big fish” that Teruko left to the big leagues. The kaiju tapped the end of her muzzle with a taloned hand, listening closely.
“Burning a building down does not destroy the ideologies of the people who occupy it,” Teurko said sagely, her robust voice low and grave. Certainly, if what the boy said was true, it could be quite a symbolic catharsis… but the children that resided inside would still be orphans, and the people that ran this (however corrupt) orphanage would still be their legal (albeit temporary) guardians. Buildings could be rebuilt. Locations could be changed.
This also begged the question—what did they want from her?
It was clear that Teruko was giving the child’s request thought, though. Her remark was said pensively, rather than dismissively. She spoke only to the kid. Perhaps out of fatherly concern, the red-headed gentleman was acting terser than usual, but… Teruko like the kid better, to be entirely frank.
“What kind of help are you looking for, kid?” Teruko asked, “From me, specifically? To stop the Painter? To fan the flames? Real talk, arson is not my jam…”
Even if fiery breath was evidence to the contrary.

No wasn't an option.
Sorry, but I can't wasn't a viable answer.
Normally, he was a very reasonable fellow, but not when something devastating might happen to his only son. All in all, it was an unfortunate situation and he needed to coax her into it some how, some way...and from what he gathered, this woman was reasonably dodgy and quite frankly, he couldn't blame her. Yet, she had the skills and experience he needed to not only assure his son's safety to some extent or another...but to save those children from the fire as well.
One may expect him to falter...
...but he didn't. Finn Halloran didn't so much as flinch or twitch as the woman had her guard up and defended herself and this bakery which was her turf. This was to be expected, was it not? Cornering someone in a place that may as well be their home...he didn't anticipate it to go as smoothly as it was in this very moment. Yes, yes...everything fizzled down five years ago, but to him? That simply confirmed that she knew how to fall off the radar in some form or another...it would make his job a little easier when they'd get her assistance...covering her tracks and what not so she could keep living her comfortable, little quaint life.
The man didn't interrupt her, not a peep...and he didn't interrupt his child either, he made sure Natsu was able to get his words across and...he arched a brow at how she was trying to sort out what his dear son wanted from her. Burning down the building? How absurd...that was already covered and taken care of... "If I may interject for a moment...but the arson is taken care of. Whether we like it or not, whether it truly solves anything or not...I don't think it's wise for either of you to face The Painter. I believe a rescue mission of the orphans would be best to reduce the inevitable casualties...wouldn't you say, Natsu?" His words were calm...he certainly had more to say, but he needed to tread carefully. The boy had the woman's sympathy...an advantage to the child's goal.
That's all that mattered since to the tall gentleman, as far as he could tell, that would be enough to get the help Natsu through this...

Despite his father's well-intentions, he is coming off or attempting to come off as threatening as possible, which was failing on the woman. And the woman put it nicely she won't help people if they are threatening or not giving her good reason to help. Which he hoped himself was doing even if his father isn't helping much. [break][break] So when the giant woman asked what is up and if he lost his wallet, Natsu looked a bit sheepish by her stare and let out a small defeated sigh as he speaks. "No, I didn't, nor did my friend Yuki, who's a nice person, by the way, tricked me by hiding my wallet, so don't think lesser of him." Natsu said in an apologetic tone. Natsu could tell the woman, even with her lizard-like features, looked concerned with his scars. And thankfully, the way her expression softens up when he spoke about his issues made him feel more confidant to explain himself. And when she says that burning down a building doesn't burn down the ideologies that it held within its walls. "I figured that out a little too late." Natsu said with a small voice. [break][break] Natsu was quiet as he tried to keep up his heart from beating out of his chest as he waited for her to reject their request, but miraculously, she asked what he needed out of her, specifically about his favor for help. Natsu lets out a sigh of the air he didn't realize he was holding in. Natsu smiles at the woman and says, "Thank you for even considering helping us." Natsu said with a genuine smile, the first genuine smile he has ever given an adult due to the shock of this woman's willingness to help. Despite his growing fondness and love for Finn, he hasn't smiled like that him yet. But Finn shouldn't be jealous, Finn will see more of this smile as Natsu looks back at his father with a beaming smile for emotional support, and he talked again. [break][break] "no, Luzia-the painter has it all planned out, I don't think we can stop her at this point even if we tried, so I'm not asking you to stop her, nor to help burn it down." Natsu started, but the steam started to slow down a bit as he thinks of that place and all of the children he has helped or help take care of being in danger and that he even considered it as a good option, but he swallowed his fear and spoke with a tense but determined voice. [break][break] "I am asking-no begging you to help save those children, I watched them grow up with me, I help feed them, I even took care of them when nobody else would give them the light of day, and I want to make things right, that I even considered burning it all down without thinking it's through." Natsu paused as he swallowed the tears willing up in his throat. " I was willing to continue the cycle all because I was in pain and so angry at the adults-the awful people that took us in, that I let my anger win, so I need to make it up to them by letting others help us," Natsu paused once again before speaking again. "To give them the chance to learn the truth and not the lie that was beaten into us every day, that nobody cared, that we were disposable and not worth saving in the eyes of adults, but I now know that's adults do care, that we aren't disposable and worth saving in the eyes of good people." Natsu spoke as his tears dried up as he looked at the woman with a brave and determined expression. [break][break] "So I beg of you, please help them, I can tell you their plans, so if you don't want to fight the painter or anybody with her, I can tell you, but please help the others, please help them, and if you can't do it-I will do it by myself." Natsu said with a pained expression as he stares up at the woman's expression. He will do it, he knows he will.
