Shit… Jasmine’s talk with him had thrown him off big time and he’d ended up leaving something back on the UA campus. Not good not good… he never took anything highly er… ‘bothersome’ with him in the first place but with how Jasmine and him had had their words between eachother it had left him more on edge than other, even briefly considering the idea of lifted fingerprints before recalling he didn’t even have any to lift. Okay okay just… he called the school and thankfully some of the pro heroes stayed on campus. He wouldn’t have to risk shutting down their security to get back in. They reinstated his visitor pass for a half hour to get back in and get right back out… okay… this should be fine.
Heading up to the gates of UA was no less intimidating than any other attempt to cross the threshold. His breath caught in his chest, nonexistant as it might be. He felt a tightness there like he shouldn’t be here… memories welling up inside of him. His fists clenched at his sides and a tinny sigh flowed through him, pulling his visitors pass out of his satchel and pressing it against the gat. It took a hair longer to register than earlier in the day but thankfully it still seemed to buzz him in. He was probably just… tense, nervous. Yeah, that was it… nothing special, nothing to be worried about.
heading across to the building the support students usually worked from Axel was feeling more at ease. The building was mostly empty, he could hear a few kids training in the distance, a bit of chatter from an afterschool club, the pseudo presence of people helping him feel less like he was in for some sting operation. He just needed to find the lab he’d been working out of-CRAP
Axel jolted back around the corner when he spotted a relatively human head (as opposed to the carcass of one of his robots) bobbing up among the desks in the room. He just barely avoided getting seen he was pretty sure… half of him was wondering why he was even panicing but… oh yeah cause what if it was Jaz or one of those other deadly fucks from the sports festivals…
Deep, tinny, fake breaths. He may not have needed to breathe but it definitely calmed his nerves. He peeked the edge of his TV screen head and… oh. OH thank god. It was just that cute little squirrel girl. He shouldn’t underestimate any UA student, but she didn’t seem all that… deadly, to say the least. Adjusting the strap of his bag he walked in more calmly, tilting his head as he saw Honey deep in work with something robotic in nature. Didn’t seem to be one of his models though…
“Er… hey?” He piped up, wondering if he could draw her from her work with some curiosity of his own. “Sorry I don’t mean to bother you just er… my workshop ended a few hours ago, just surprised to see anyone still here… what ya workin’ on?”

Her head was bobbing up and down, sometimes from the sleepy feeling that was climbing up on her and sometimes because she nodded to herself. She had accidentally skipped dinner, had also skipped anything else. She felt like she was so close with finishing Cherry that she did not want to stop. "No, no, no." She muttered to herself and climbed on the chair to sit on her knees and lean in the book. She had a book, a tablet and scribbled notes on her left and seemed to be working with a program on a laptop and some sort of chip on her right, right in front of her was a half robot. If Axel would look closely at the design he might recognize it from his previous class where she had brought the blueprints and had been working on it from that point on. It was so close to being done, but it wasn't perfect and the AI wasn't... functioning as it should be. She definitely needed help but the little girl was stubborn. The problem is that she also did not want to bother the upperclassmen who seemed to be rather busy with their apprenticeships and whatsoever. It was difficult to phantom what she could do and she wasn't sure how to face this challenge.
She had been nodding off and working on three separate things that should become a combined thing but she was stuck, had probably been stuck on any progress for over an hour. Trying with a little screwdriver to work on Cherry, she almost tumbled off her chair when she heard someone say hey. She was still a squirrel; quick in her jumping up out of protectionism for herself. Even if she was at U.A. that did not mean that she felt safe, which was kind of dumb. It was just in her head and her mother talking about the dangers that were coming and so on and so on.
"Oh hi there, sensei! Sorry I didn't hear you, too focused hehe!" Her smile immediately returned when she noticed it was Axel and she smiled at him. She brushed her hair with a silly gesture, "I know, I just felt I was so close in finishing my robot that I wanted to continue..." She looked around to see if she could find a clock, obviously, there was a clock or time on her laptop or tablet, "I have seemed to be here for four hours... wow... oops?" She was more enthusiastic by the minute now he asked what she was doing. "I finished building Cherry, eh that's the name I gave to my robot! But she isn't ready yet, I can't get the AI fixed and I feel like she isn't perfect yet, you know. I try to make her fly and be able to keep up with me but it's a lot of work, I don't know how to fix it." Hence why she had been working four hours on it already... she suddenly realized she was hungry but still too stubborn to give up, she could get a midnight snack or so later!

Axel couldn’t help but chuckle a little but only in relief as it seemed Honey was as easily spooked as he was right now. Helped put him at ease in an odd way knowing he wasn’t the only one ready to blow a gasket at the slightest twitch in their environment right now. Still, he didn’t want the girl to feel like she was being laughed at, a sweet smile emote appearing on his screen before being quickly replaced by a more nervous one with a sweatdrop in the corner. “Heheh, sorry there I didn’t mean to spook you really. Honestly though I’m not surprised, I’d jump at a fucking creek in the floorboards staying behind at a school… sorry for the language.” He added with a bit of a flustered sigh, moving closer to the girl working on her little robot.
He vaguely recalled having a glance at the blueprint during the workshop, helping make sure the theory behind it was sound and it seemed to be coming together quite nicely from what he could tell. Honestly he was kinda endeared seeing her work so hard on it, he wouldn’t have pegged her for the intellectual, tinkering type on a first glance, but it seemed he probably had the wrong impression there. Easing himself closer, he lay his bag out on the table, briefly forgetting about the tool he’d come back for. “Mind if I have a gander? Er… take a look, I mean.”
Assuming he was allowed to he’d take a moment to admire the work going into it, plugging his own laptop into a USB port so he could take a look at the coding of the AI. “I really wouldn’t worry by the way… if the AI is what’s giving you the issue-“ He continued to type away at his keyboard without seeming to hesitate, his fingers able to move fluently along it, click-clacking away even as he spoke. “Then you hit the roadblock right at the end… it’s the hardest part to manage and trust me. I got a cheat sheet and even I can’t do it all that well.”
Thinking for a moment, he reached into his bag, pulling out a bronze shape that seemed like two pyramids stuck together, a clear seem in the middle between them. With the press of a button from his thumb it seemed to pop open, revealing an eye in the center, starting to hover about. It took a second… and then spoke in a feminine voice.
“Oh hey dipshit, decide to bring me to school didja?”
Axel shook his head, still typing away. “Honey? Rascal. Rascal? Honey. My one and only success at AI so far…”
It ‘bowed’ as much as a pointy orb could while hovering in the air. “Pleasure’s all yours I’m sure.”
Axel scoffed again as he continued to work away. “Yeah as you may be able to tell I havn’t quite located the coding that makes it such a sarcastic little prick.”
“You mean a fabulous prick.”
“My point is made.”

Ah she liked Axel-sensei, she liked how he used the emojis to show what his own expression would be and she beamed up to the television face when she noticed the nervous emoji and him to explain he did not mean to spook her. She knew that but it was nice to hear. "Oh no, sensei, this is your room right? So it's me staying around past hours, sorry!" But she laughed a bit about it because it made her feel funny and he was funny too, she should not copy his words but still it was funny to hear him talk and she was just working on fixing Cherry's AI and explained she was doing that when he asked what she was doing. She put her pouty face back on and looked at her tablet, technically all the work she put in there was work she learned from other students or advice from third years and thus also Axel-sensei during that class. "Oh sure, what a funny word gander. I am a bit stuck so it is nice if you could help, ah but sensei is it not too late? I can wait for another time." Surely it is more fun if she could finish it but still, it would be nice to fix it like as soon as she could...
She looked up and tried to see his screen if it was normal next to her on the table if he had pulled it more to him and she wouldn't see it, she wouldn't also try to look at it. She just nodded, "AI's are quite complex are they not?" she asked as he said her not to worry it was maybe because of that. She was glad how he spoke to her, making her feel like she was doing a proper job even if she couldn't fix it herself and she beamed a bright smile because she felt like it was a compliment. "Ooh then I am glad you are here!" Hehe because he was sure better at it then her if he even had a cheat sheet!
She went to sit on her knees on the chair so she was a little taller and looked at everything with big green eyes. She was so curious about it and had so much to learn still. She leaned a bit back, surprised by the eye that popped up after his thumb hit a button. Ooooh! It spoke in a different voice then Axel and she looked from one to another. "Hello!" She immediately said enthusiastic once her teacher introduced each other and she grinned, that was so cool! O-oh what a sassy one and she giggled, "Yes, yes it is!" it was her pleasure after all to meet the AI. She giggled again a little with the conversation between the two of them. "It would be nice if Cherry could talk but it's mostly that I could give her commands that she would be able to follow? Is that still an AI?" she asked Axel as it was quite confusing for the little squirrel sometimes.

As Honey seemed to briefly worry about eating up his time, Axel waved off her worried with a literally dismissive sway of his hand. “Oh don’t worry about it. I mean, for starters I’m the guest here right?” He lifted up the visitors pass that hung around his neck, a flash of a cheeky smile on his TV screen head before continuing to tap away at the computer as she spoke about it being too late for him, chuckling a little. “Oooh don’t worry about that either. I’ve got a full battery pack and nowhere to be. Besides, I love working on this sort of stuff. Keeps my mind busy you know?” He gave her a light nudge with his elbow, careful it wasn’t too hard given he was… ya know, made of metal and all that. “Besiiiiides, I should be saying the same thing to you. Young girl like you needs her sleep and I don’t see you getting that any time soon if your stuck on this problem. Sooner I lend a hand, sooner we can both get some rest, right?”
He wouldn’t hide his screen, he was using pretty normal code writing software. He had like, an insane amount of windows open but that seemed to speak more to how cluttered his digital work space was as he was only focusing on one window at a time, so it was easy enough to keep up with… technically speaking. He did type extremely fast to say the least and it could be hard to keep track of if he was working with Honey’s code in one tab or his own code in another now and then. “Quite. I mean, it basically has to account for everything a normal person decides, and I don’t think people realize just how many small decisions they have to make. I mean… B.” He literally just said the letter ‘B’. “My brain has to decide, with the tone, the inflection, the specific sounds made, what letter I just said, and what relevance that has to a conversation we’re having… right now it’s just an example but… its one of those reasons AI can be so difficult. Even just getting computers to understand language is… an insane feat. Lucky for us some people figured that out long before we had to.” He had a light little chuckle, shooting her another smirking emote as he typed away.
“Happy to help.” He’d add at her appreciative comment. “Seriously though this… you got a solid foundation here. Don’t think I coulda done this when I was your age…” Mostly cause he was in a coma but that was not good small talk. He just admired her hard work as it was, making some small adjustments. Now and then he’d explain what he was doing, but it was too technical for his narrator, Yumi, to even attempt to imagine what he might say. There were a lot of hoohas and doodickies that needed fixing or adjusting, nuff said.
With Rascal out and about, floating around, a blue scanning series of lasers, harmless to touch, started to emit over the robot carcass on the work desk, examining it and floating a few inches back. “Ya know what it issss a pleasure. Ignore what the big guy says he’s just annoyed I’m funnier than he is.” Even without an expressive face the way the parts of her structure hovered about her seemed to express a bit of a ‘cheeky smile’.
“Mmmm. Yeah. That’s why you annoy me.” He reached over and flicked Rascal, who did a backflip before a projection burst out of their eye, briefly showing a holographic display of the robot she’d just scanned before blinking out of existence.
“Hey hands to yerself bud. I’m a fine piece of work here.”
“Oh you’re a piece of work alright.” Axel chuckled under his breath, glancing to Honey. “Sorry. Anyway er.. to answer your question, yes, following command is AI. If it can understand them and doesn’t need you to literally explain EVERYTHING, that’s AI. Like… if you had to tell it to raise right leg, move forward, drop right leg, and so on and son on to climb stairs? That’s not AI, if you tell it to climb stairs, and it can do that all on it’s own? That’s AI. I assume from the intense code your using that’s what we’re aiming for?”

Oooh she really liked Axel-sensei, she did not want to bother other people and he came with solid excuses that she did not dare to doubt it anymore and she beamed brightly to see him help away and tap at his computer. How lucky she felt that he had bumped into her, so Honey had the opportunity to point out her issue with fixing the AI, to at least get the obligations or the tasks that she would have to give it, it did not have to be as fancy as Axel-sensei's own AI which was really fascinating! She giggled a little when he nudged her and said she should get her rest as well, "You are right!" But she did not see it as something bad at this point, only liking what he said and feeling a little flattered he thought of it that way as well. She would just look curiously at what he was doing and see if she could catch up or understand. Computery things were definitely not her thing, she got it a little but she tried to focus on everything and as Miku had called it be a jake of trades or so but she knew her focus, it was just... her focus was still so broad that it was maybe a bit all over the place.
She only looked at Axel more with big eyes when she asked about the complexity of the making of an AI and he explained it so clear that she could only nod and understand. "That's true, I think we all forget how much we do on automatic pilot as a being." But you had to teach that or more like a program that for your computer so that made it so interesting. Hehe, she laughed as well when he chuckled and gave her the emoji, he was a really fascinating being! She nodded to herself and only tried to look more. She only smiled more brightly when Axel accepted her compliment and gave her one in return. "I had good senpais helping me out!" she said proudly because she wasn't the type to take the credit all for herself when there were others in the third year class that gave her ideas on what to do and how to do it, besides internet was a really nice place if you knew where to look. Honey's writer also really appreciated not going too much into the code detail because it's already a miracle she can read the template code, but Honey nodded along and was happy to learn from her sensei.
Honey looked from Rascal to Axel actually intrigued by Rascal scanning her little doll like mechanical construction, "That do you think?" She asked the AI, wondering if it was so far developed as that it could give its own opinion, Honey assumed so considering the conversation it had with Axel. That would be super cool but she wasn't that far advanced with technology. "Oh yea, that's the plan, to give the instruction and it can do that, it would be fun if she could talk but it's not the most important, it's basically the idea that I can let her send a distress call I can install to police or other pro-heroes for example while I can work on the medical aid that's needed, things like that. It would be nice if she can walk along with me instead of me carrying her all the time or heck even fly, cuz my suit can fly!" Little enthusiastic Honey would talk about that if Axel would not stop her how it would be the idea of just a little extensive part of herself and to make it all better so to say that she basically had four hands instead of two, more in the way of aiding people then actually fighting, she still did not know how to fight, that would be interesting next sports festival.

After their scan of the robot before them, Rascal seemed to just process the information for a few moments, humming to itself, which could have been the sound of it literally just running the numbers or a genuine sound of thought it generated purposely. With the mechanical tint of her voice it was a little hard to tell, but ultimately- "It's... decent. Not good, not bad, but decent." The brief >8C emote that flashed on Axel's face showed he wasn't too happy with her giving that sort of answer to honey, but Rascal, even seeing the subtle sort of threat in that expression, stood by it. "Look kid it'd a good piece of work, but I was literally born in this guy's lab. I got some high standards to compare you to."
Axel thought for a moment before letting out a sigh like noise. "Yeah she has a point... I mean really, for your age? Not having my budget? It's damn impressive work in my eyes but... she sees a lot more advanced tech on pretty much a daily basis. Just don't take her words personally okay?" He offered a smiling emote before pulling back from the computer a little, folding his arms as he took in her words on what she was looking to achieve.
"Alright so... with the foundation you've built, I could help build a bit of 'follow' code into it? We could give it a base order to follow that it should stick close to the person it identifies as... well, you, and any orders it gets overwright that base command. So it'll follow you around until you tell it to do something else. As for emergency signals... not too hard. Install a radio and a basic speaker and you could literally just have it tap into the radio channels to give that signal. Not too bad right?"

Honey's eyes turned only bigger and her face was pouty. It wasn't that she did not expect that answer, after all, she was just a starter and gave herself a far too difficult project to try out but she hoped it would stand a chance to be good and now it probably wasn't. Though surely Rascal explained a little more and she tried to nod and not be upset about it. The thing was she could maybe develop Cherry over her years of training at U.A. Find better parts, find a better system, she should not have tried to make a companion that fast but she felt sometimes quite lonely, strange to say when you had a boyfriend but also there were far too many confusing questions about it and she did not say much. She simply nodded again and tried to smile, "That's understandable." It was better to keep the honour and shame to yourself but she could learn from it, and that's what she had to try and point out to herself internally that is.
She looked at Axel, her pout disappearing and just a look of understanding and surprise on her face. She was trying to comprehend it. Obviously, the budget came from school but she had to share that with everyone so it was definitely possible that there were far better things out there. She wondered what she should say, "I won't, besides it gives room of improvement." That's how you saw things positive right? Honey had a lot to learn but she really hoped that Cherry 1.0 to call her like that now, would still work how she wanted it, then she could, in the end, make it a little better, she liked Axel's smiling emote though but she would also help to explain what she wanted to do, it was probably not as simple and again it was something she should not have tried to accomplish on her own. She was a bit of a dumb dumb in that regard.
Talking about what she wanted Cherry to do, made her a little more enthusiastic and she just smiled at Axel to try and explain it and hopefully not be too dumb about it. She just looked at him when she was done explaining and huddled a little together, afraid he would say that was impossible. "Oooh!" She was so glad it was possible and she nodded, "That sounds great!" she said now no longer huddled together and even extending her hands and arms above her head to look happy, "Can you show me?" She was not sure if she would eventually learn but she really wanted to see how it worked and if she could just get the knowledge albeit a little bit, especially if she needed the room for improvement. This was going great, she was glad her idea wasn't too absurd and that they could maybe work on the basis tonight, wait should she ask again if he had time for this or would he make another appointment with her now?
