`Shedding the memories that you're dearly holding onto...`
"Once upon a time there was a little princess! The queen grew sick upon her arrival, for her child was poisoned like a cursed apple. The king and queen, try as they might, did what they could to care for their tiny princess. Though she grew into a kind and playful soul, their fear, they could not shake. For the king and queen continued to fall ill and this made the little princess sad. Trying to tell herself night after night that it wasn't on purpose, that it wasn't her fault, even though deep down...she knew it was all her fault.
One day, the king and queen spoke of an abandoned prince...they wished for the princess to be their chance at doing right for themselves and their long lost prince. They threw the prince away and now they had to throw their princess away. It was too much for the king and queen, the poisonous princess accepted this with a heavy heart as she was taken away to a new kingdom called St. Marta's. Legend said that they were able to care for such strange children much like the princess.
Farewell to the beloved Kitsu Kingdom, for the king and queen did not know that they had given their dear daughter away to a wicked witch..."
`but you sigh, lowlife, hating who you couldn't be...`
"They love me, they love me...that's why they got rid of me...because they love me...they...love...me..." Telling herself those words night after night, the young girl at age five told herself over and over again. Reciting it like a mantra to hold herself together, the bits and pieces of herself being held together by toxic glue. Days felt like weeks, months felt like years and years felt like decades as she clung tightly onto the story locked away in her mind. Although full of bitter sweet warmth, Hifumi tried her best to hang on as she lay upon the floor in a pool of her own blood at the age of ten.
The bitter children who needed an outlet of their own had taken their aggression out on the young girl, peeling her scales off and watching them grow back....
They figured no harm done, take it a step further and remove her fin....what could possibly go wrong?
Fearing the reaper, she took comfort in the echos of laughter around her as she closed her eyes, it helped her accept that the one they called death may take her by the hand to a new home. One where there was no more pain and no more sorrow...that didn't sound so bad to her...the reaper was no longer such a scary being. For the reaper was truly just a kind creature to ferry those who no longer had a place in this world.
In the depths of a day dream, she sat near her broken body based on the image she'd seen in the mirror before taking the moment to rest in an effort to find peace. Hovering over her was a cloaked, skeletal creature holding onto a scythe with its head tilted toward her. There was a moment of silence before the small girl broke the ice in an effort to make sense of the insanity. Hifumi needed to know...where did she go wrong? Why did they hate her...or...
"Was...was I...a bad person...?"
"...no child, you were not."
"Then...why...?"
"Aw man, looks like we already broke our toy!" Giving her a swift kick to the stomach as her limp body rolled onto the wound, ground numb and cold...she hadn't felt a thing.
The hazy image of a shadowy figure sat beside her, speaking softly with calm words of wisdom, "In this world, there are those who suffer...those who need something to sink their claws into...those who know not of compassion..." In that moment, she gripped her shoulders and lightly chewed upon her lower lip in thought as tears rolled down her cheeks. "...o-oh..." "Child...some have forgotten what it is to be kind, or they simply never knew the warmth you hold dear..." Silent...quiet and still...she rubbed her shoulders while staring down at herself...
"...child...do you hate them, resent them?" Looking up to the figure, "...hate is a strong word, b-but....but....I...resent them...a little bit...does that make me a bad person....?" The figure shook their head, speaking to her as though they had a vast amount of wisdom, "No, child...it does not. Humans are flawed, fragile creatures....for these emotions, albeit imperfect, are part of the normalcy humanity holds..." The one she painted as the reaper in her mind based on stories she read to occupy her mind slowly stood up. "...we'll speak again one day, child..."
Confused, she felt something burning away at her back as the figure faded away...for a moment, she wanted to go with them, but there was nothing to reach out to.
Snapping back to reality, a sharp gaps meshed with a scream escaped her as someone used a heated piece of metal to cauterize the large wound. It struggled to mend itself and there seemed to be someone who took the course of action to help the one dubbed as a broken toy. With some rest and the aid of this other child, she finally recovered and found a friend in her savior. Although she felt strange without her spiked fin, at least it was a little easier to wear more clothes. Their friendship was cut short as she was handed off to a foster parent who needed someone with her quirk. Part of her was relieved to be gone...but her new friend was in danger, the closest thing she could call family in that wretched place.
Somehow...some way...she needed to save them!
`Making a wish for a dream inside the summer glow...`
Years passed as she was used to harm innocent people, though she didn't wish to do so...these parents claimed to care about her. They lied about how they loved her, that this was for their own good and they needed her to protect them. Hifumi obeyed out of fear and trying to accept these lies as her truths...until she over heard her care takers venomous whispers hissing through the walls...

They didn't love her...the people they were harming probably didn't deserve it! Yet, she was still so worried about doing something right away. Taking the time to learn from them, keeping the trust they had in her...she found a window of opportunity to run away on a mission. Warning the people she was originally sent after, she begged them to take her in their care and together they formed a new family. One that was broken, but full of renewed hope...they would craft a happily ever after. Hifumi waited for the day she could return to St. Marta's to return the favor of life she was given by her friend.
U.A wasn't an option for her since her new parents hadn't the funds, thus...the option to become what was classified as a pro hero turned into a hazy dream. Reaching out to those pro heroes, the few she got to see wanted someone who graduated from U.A or some other school meant for training heroes as a sidekick, so that ruined her second option. They needed someone with proper training...much to her dismay, it made sense. Hifumi's quirk could easily harm someone during a rescue mission...biting back the sadness and burying it, she wasn't going to let that stop her. For a whole year, she kept trying to see if maybe someone would say something different, give her a chance and take her under their wing.
Later on, she decided that if she couldn't become a pro hero or the sidekick of one, she'd just ask them to do the right thing and put an end to St. Marta's. Once again, she was hustling around and talking to pro heroes, her faith in them was dwindling with every breath. So many of these pro heroes struggled to believed her that St. Marta's was a terrible place either...they were in the green, totally clear. That horrible orphanage...they had these pros wrapped around their fingers, didn't they? Whether or not the Witch Doctor, a pro hero who actually seemed a bit more sincere toward her plight, would truly look further into it. Regardless, Hifumi simply couldn't stand around and wait to find out, she had to do something, anything!
Wasting all that time she could have spent doing something, enough was enough. It was time to prove the naysayers wrong and she was going to do it with a smile! Dawning the identity of Serpentina, she would follow her heart and aid those who she felt needed it. Although her upbringing makes her see the shades of grey between the black and white of good and bad...she was going to make a difference and make her own freaking destiny!
Type: Mutation
Rank: E
Description: Simply, she's a poisonous fishy with a humanoid anatomy.
Rather than having normal ol' bones, she's got cartilage, slightly improved night vision, gills behind her ears to sift air from water, scales and a slimy body. The slime upon her body is troublesome since it causes various ailments, but it all depends on the way it makes contact with an individual and if they have resistance. If someone is affected by her slime, after their recovery, they develop a temporary immunity (3 posts w/o resistance 3 posts w/resistance).
With the sea water, she can spit out (adjusting the pressure so it's like a water gun all the way to a water jet with this method) or make into bubbles since it's mixed with her mucus/slime (can trigger the bubbles to burst like a small field of vision obscuring mist for a 3 meter range)! Hifumi is capable of making slime bubbles with air (kind of like a bubble wand), but she has no control over the direction at this time. Not only can she spit water, she can also make a slime bubble (think water balloons) and throw it as well.
Currently, her max range is 3 meters (approx 10 feet), this includes the use of a standard slingshot when firing scales. Another handy thing she can do is make her scales lift like quills (I.E: Puffer fish and porcupines) and make a temporary slime bubble mask to put over her face (small: over nose and mouth, large: over her face)!
The Slime Toxins (Flex Slot) change based on the majority of a certain type of food she's eaten before getting roped into combat and take a while to shift (One type of ailment per thread).
Benefits
Exhaustion and Weakness: Due to her slippery body, she's prone to being a living meme of infomercials at times and avoids getting help more often than not out of concern of hurting them, yes, she will sometimes have a reflexive moment of panic with an enemy as well...eeeespeially if she is trying to reason with them. If her gills get damaged, it'll take longer to recover (3 post turns where the fourth has it fixed up toward the end of the fourth post). Due to the injury in her back, which couldn't heal properly, it's a huge weak spot. Hitting her back will cause Hifumi excruciating pain and stun/cripple her for 2 to 3 post rounds allowing her to be a punching bag.
Physically, she's not too strong, more so since she relies mostly on her water, slime and scales to get her by....buuuut she can help carry your heavy luggage and drop it repeatedly like it's a slippery bar of soap.
HYDRATION is a huge deal to her and needs to guzzle down a lot of liquids, namely water since without the slime on her skin, she'll get a lot of body cramps, struggle to breathe and her skin will crack and bleed too. Even though her hair is more like a helmet, she'll get a bit disoriented from the vibrations affecting the membranes on her head. Those membranes, if exposed, cause her a lot of pain and her vision will become blurry. Hifumi's pale blue skin is durable, but it's not as durable as her scales and don't handle sharp objects too well at all. Sometimes, she'll roll into puddles, ponds, ocean, fountains, sinks and so forth just to relieve herself of the pain when her skin is dry to the point of cracking.
You know what's horrifying for Hifumi? LIGHTNING, that's what! When it comes to ELECTRICITY, she needs to back it up, back it up, back it up cause her new parents taught her good. ICE, SNOW, FROST heavily reduces her mobility since she can't handle freezing temperatures. Cool water, yes. Ice cold to freezing? Absolutely not. The slimy mucus on her body only does so much for her. Let's not forget FIRE, that's going to rapidly dehydrate her body. With time and practice, she'll be able to make the slime thick enough to work as a better buffer, right now it ain't worth it to play with electricity!
The way temporary immunity from her toxins work (3 posts for people without resistance, 3 posts for those with resistance related to the toxin) is she CANNOT kick in another type of ailment immediately after with her slime since it's 1 at a time due to it being the same type of toxin PLUS her body takes time to change those toxins for Toxic Slime. Quick example is if someone makes any form of contact with her toxic slime (2 - 3 posts depending on the ailment), they will have that temporary immunity (guaranteed 3 posts for non/resist, 3 w/resist) from it after they recover from the type of ailment.
Only ONE ailment happens for her TOXIC SLIME (Flex Slot). Hifumi's Toxic Slime ailments are 1 Rank LOWER than her over all quirk rank (I.E: Rank E means her Slime Toxins are at F) and they can only kick in one type of ailment per thread.
Seeing that Hifumi is more like a fish and less like a human based on her physiology, she needs to take medicine from the pet store or a vet more often than not in a big ol tub of water and soak in it to take care of herself. This way her gills also get treatment too, they'll get inflamed when she's exposed to toxins and need to take care of it that day.
TOXIC SLIME ailments are based on what she has eaten the most of in a certain frame of time and takes a while to change out to something different (1 thread). Does she know how it changes and works? NOPE...not a clue at this time!
Even though she can lift her scales like quills, it's a double edged sword in that it's easier to break off in this state.
CURRENTLY she does not have immunity or resistance, her slime does work like a protective layer against PHYSICAL harmful substances from making contact with her skin, this is true! However, she still gets sick if harmful substances make contact with her skin and doesn't have a true, proper resistance just yet. Slimy coating basically lets her pet poisonous things until they break her slime barrier or it's wiped off to expose her skin, that's about it.

APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Skin like a clear blue sky, scales and fins dark as midnight highlighted by the hue of a golden moon. Hifumi's able to pull off her scales, the years of abuse made it a little easier to pluck out (thanks, St Marta bullies). With extra effort, the long fin and larger scales upon her head to reveal that she's got soft membranes among small pointy scales along her scalp looking almost like amber jewels...but a little more gross. The membranes ooze that toxic slime her body produces far more than any other part of her body, it functions like a tacky glue by keeping her hair attached as well as the smaller scales help it latch on.
Thankfully, it's sturdy so it isn't too easy to snatch her wig! Behind her ears are a set of functioning gills which aid for long periods of swim time. Hifumi has a more petite stature and build, but she's a bit lean in muscle yet has what she calls a kinda squishy tum from her somewhat pear-like figure. Swimming and working out a bit helps, but her body doesn't bother her too much. In fact, she views herself as a cute little sea monster and does her best not to let the naysayers get to her when they remind her she's got some terrifying aspects. When she's out in public as a civilian trying to go through the motions of life, she'll opt for baggier shirts that she can wear like a dress and pair it with some leggings or stockings.
Sometimes she'll go for cuter bits of fashion, but the fact that she's got a poisonous quirk makes her reasonably paranoid about how much skin she'll expose for the safety of her peers. The fins accenting her hips look almost like a skirt, so she'll rarely wear pants unless they're stretchy. So far, she's found it a little easier to wear booty shorts since they slide nicely beneath her scales. Hifumi also makes the effort to wear gloves so she doesn't slip and slide too many things.
As the vigilante, Serpentina, she doesn't wear as much clothing...just an apron, pair of goggles and a short dress that matches the color of her midnight blue scales. Sometimes, she'll soak herself in dye so that the light blue color of her skin matches her scales as a precautionary method.

A girl who was abandoned out of love, abused out of bitterness by broken children and spoke to a figment she created in a day dream representing the reaper to find solace. One may believe that she'd grow up to be a twisted soul, dishing out revenge to an imperfect world full of hateful souls in an effort to purge and cleanse. That isn't quite the case with the young Hifumi Kitsu! Holding onto bottled full of fluffy unicorns, rainbows, sunshine and masked wrestlers with over the top back stories, she's buried all the things that made her suffer in hopes of drowning in a blissful state happiness.
Of course, that doesn't always work out too well...so instead she opts for being optimistic to a fault. Thinking that maybe not all villains are so bad since her friend, the reaper made her feel like they might just be broken by truly horrible people. Maybe even that they aren't completely sure that their actions are harming others. See, Hifumi isn't the sort who thinks there's a strict form of black and white. Maybe she won't always won't do what people around her deem to be the right thing, but the important thing is that she's doing right for herself and those she's protecting!
The police and pro-heroes can be mad at her, so can the villains, that's their beef if they wanna have it! When she reached out for help, her hand was practically swatted away and made her wake up and smell the fresh air. Relying on herself has been a good route so far and she's mostly confident in herself and will have a splash of spunk in the way she carries herself. All she has to do is try, accomplishment is a bonus!
Hifumi rather not hurt anyone, but she's lived a life where words won't reach people and she understands that pretty dang well. It's a preference to use her words, but she's not above making an effort to lay the smack down to get her point across. Even when she's losing, she'll still try to reach out until that light of hope burning brightly dims. This fishy girl will always make the effort to try her very best, find as many positives as possible and pave the way to some kind of victory. Whether it's a lesson or triumph, she's giving it her all!

Although her upbringing makes her see the shades of grey between the black and white of good and bad...she was going to make a difference and make her own freaking destiny!

QUIRK INFORMATION
Quirk
Serpent of the Toxic Sea
aka
Toxic Sea Serpent
Serpent of the Toxic Sea
aka
Toxic Sea Serpent
Benefits
- Toxic Sea Slime (Cripples if she's eaten mostly chocolate and/or candy (3 posts), Weakness for carbs like rice, bread and ramen/saimin (3 posts), Disorientation if protein rich food like beef, pork or fish (3 posts) )
- Burbling Toxic Sea Water (Acidic Burning water that has Strength/Damage capabilities at current rank)
- Fishy Anatomy (Primarily water mobility w/ filtering air through water via her gills)
