Saving Private "I can agree to that," Kyouko said in response to Bura's comment about them both doing well. While she didn't believe it the fact he was willing to share his glory was very kind of the big boy. She gave him a warm smile as he wiped the tears from her face. "Thank you," she said warmly to him. He was so gentle and kind and Kyouko honestly was feeling much closer to the fluffy giant. She helped him in the past and now he was helping her. It was nice to receive some help when she needed it instead of doing things on her own for once. When he apologized for taking care of her she giggled a little bit, also blushing small, "You are more than welcome to touch my face anytime." Kyouko didn't give a coy wink after she said this to the bull-like she normally did to people but rather turned her attention back to her hair.
Kyouko continued to brush her hair as the principal would talk to the civilians and the solider. Though she wished she had paid more attention to their conversation she needed to make sure her hair was back in good condition for the next possible encounter. She did wave to the civilians as they left in their van. "Hopefully they will be alright," Kyouko said to herself as she kept her eyes on them as they made it over the horizons. The girl could only hope that the people they just saved could find sanctuary somewhere safe.
Next, it was the principal's turn to speak and he began to reveal information that was quite confidential. While she felt honored to be given such information as a student she felt a tinge of how trustworthy the principal was now. Sure they had just kept him and some civilians safe, but if the information was classified shouldn't he have still kept it secret? Whatever that wasn't important right now though as they had a mission to complete and the smoke from the crash could be seen over the horizon. They were close and they could return to the school once it was complete. Kyouko couldn't wait to crash in her bed in the dorms and just knock out immediately.
After walking for about ten minutes they found themselves near a field where the helicopter crashed. The scene was very ominous what with the dogs and weird creature in the sky. It made the other encounter feel tame in comparison. Kyouko gulped in fear at the scene before her and was hesitant to jump into the fray. Luckily Bura suggested they stay back since Angel and Perry were going ahead of the group to take care of the creatures. Kyouko felt a sigh of relief that she could take a break from the fighting even if it was a short one.
She sighed too quickly as things took a turn for the worse quickly. Almost as if an explosion happened between Perry and Angel. Kyouko couldn't help and want to rush to their aid, but Yuhiko seemed to have another idea. He pushed her down to the ground and shocked her. He was usually so level headed so to hear him almost panic was strange and frankly weird. Still, she had to keep her eye on the principal as he was rushing towards the helicopter. They needed to keep him safe too though so she outstretched her hair and attempted to grab the principal to bring him back to the group. "Don't go," Kyouko said a tad louder than she wanted to before covering her mouth. Did she give away their position? She could only hope they weren't in the area of a radius of the blasts. ulla Kobayashi

It was with a small salute towards Angel and Bura as well as the other students when he took to the sky. Things had seemed to only remain quiet for a short time. The small buzz of his plane stronger then ever accompanied by the occasional small metal tink of his tiny tools trying to deal out mid flight repairs when he found a brief moment or two or chance too. But even with a moment or two of respite there was only so much one could do while maintaining flight as well. They were all geared up as things started blazing.
Perry gave a nod of appreciation as well when Angel managed to stop the sudden zombie burning through the smoke like a bat out of hell. Which was good given his attention was quickly torn away to see what seemed to be a survivor. Claiming the crate had been told to them it was the number one priority. But a allied soldier in the field came first as well. "Buckle up kiddos! We gotta get this guy and the package out! Lets save him, No one gets left behind, Over and out!" He'd say briefly coming over the small radios with a crackle and pop that would often be associated to the type of short wave radios like these.
But while he was distracted a surprise came from the darkness again. A loud explosion near both he his student and the creepy zombo had caused his plane to suddenly shake violently. One side of his tail fin seemed to crack and shake violently in the air. The engine sputtering violently as well as a sudden loud CLANK was heard before smoke was bellowing out but luckily now flames. Perry seemed to veer upward quickly trying to get altitude to get some safe space somewhat. "Not doing too good, Cover my back I gotta make some repairs!" He'd let out briefly on the radio as he tried to hit the plain on a autopilot of sorts locking the controls steady as he would walk out on the back of the plane seemingly applying glue and some hard clanks of a very tiny hammer to the back of the plane. Not yet giving up on the daring Red Baron Jr.. A few parts and small bits of his plane would fall to the ground hot to the touch but not in flames... yet. Perry seemed unwilling to abandoned his beloved plane just yet though.

| A ngel's quick thinking was sadly short lived as when she sliced off the blade arm of her zombie counterpart saving Paw Might things went from bad to worse. As if it came out of nowhere an RPG quickly found itself in Angel's view which quickly exploded causing pain to fill her entire body as not only did she feel one of her ribs crack from the force, but shrapnel spray into her wings and her vision go blurry and the world go silent from the sound of the explosion sending Angel into a dazed nose dive toward the ground. Luckily her zombie counterpart was in the same dire position, and so Angel quickly shook the dizziness out of her brain and with a painful flap of her wings pushed herself toward the falling zombie and grabbed hold of it's head and remaining wing and braced herself for the impact with the ground using the zombie foe as a crash pad! As she fell however Angel noticed something that could possibly turn the tables in her teams favor. The now raining bullets were coming from the tree line! As Angel hit the ground with her now defeated foe softening the blow she found herself coughing up blood from her cracked rib. As Angel's vision continued to clear she saw that the explosion had ripped away the middle section of her armor and body suit revealing that her left side was now a disgusting shade of purple due to the damaged rib. Angel couldn't worry about that now however and so with her aching limbs she propped the dead zombie up against her back as a bullet shield as she quickly removed her hearing aids, turned them off and then back on before returning them back to their proper place. This was when she saw the snobby first year actually being a team player and pushing the other two first years down to safety. Angel had a plan, but it would rely on the first years following her orders as the pink haired first year tried to grab their principal. The young wing hero took a pained deep breath and tried to yell over the gunfire. "Leave the Principal! I'll cover him! The gunfire is coming from the trees both behind and in front of us! Bura, use your strength to knock them from the trees! Kyouko! Use your hair to restrain the gunmen after knocking away their weapons! Yuhiko! Cover Paw Might until he can get back into the air! If you can take to the air then do it! I'll take the guns in front of us,and keep the principal safe!"Once Angel gave her orders she painfully spread her wings, took hold of the now limp zombie and took to the air toward the helicopter, the injured solider with the safe and her principal while using the thick skinned zombie as a dead human shield so that she wouldn't get hit by stray bullet fire as she flew as fast as she could with her damaged wings. As she flew over the Principal Angel dropped the zombie in front of him so that he wouldn't get hit by a surprise bullet before continuing to fly toward the tree line to stop the gunmen hidden in the trees so she could save the injured soldier as their hidden foe tried to bait her boss. This was when Angel decided to chime in hoping to snap her principal back to his senses. "That's where you got it wrong dude! He isn't using us! We chose to be here so that we could help him stop your evil plot and save the country! You probably think you have an unbeatable master plan, but you have made one costly mistake! You underestimated these first years and myself! We aren't kids or just students! We are heroes, and we're here to stop you! No matter what you do today you won't win because we are here!"Once Angel reached the tree line she did her best to fly a bit hire despite how much sharp pain flowed through her wings. She then flapped her wings hard launching a total of 30 steel hard and sharp feathers using 15 from each wing aimed toward where the various bullet sprays were coming from hoping to cut through the hidden goons guns and knocking them from the trees using the air from her wing flap. Angel then flapped her wings one more time launching her backward where she despite her cracked rib and bruised limbs curled her body into a cannon ball like form until she landed and skidded to a stop atop the broken helicopter next to the injured soldier where she then spread her left wing and held it out over the soldier giving them a pained smile though at this close a range the soldier would defiantly be able to see that Angel was defiantly fighting with a cracked rib or two due to the deep disgusting purple bruising that covered the left side of her stomach. Still Angel smiled as she glanced down at the soldier. "Don't worry! As soon as I have an opening I'll get you clear. You will live to fight another day! That's a promise!"One thing was clear that Angel wouldn't admit out loud. The only thing keeping her fighting through her injuries was pure drive and adrenaline. Once things calmed down she would most likely be claimed by the pain and pass out. |

Principle Kobayashi sprinted across the field, his dark business suit melting into the shadowed field, face pale with anger, fast enough he could have moonlit as a track star. He’d gotten maybe fifteen feet away from the group, a third or so of the way to the helicopter when Kyouko’s hair caught up to him. It took him by surprise. He wasn’t expecting an “attack” from his allies--the students he was trying to protect.
Click!
“What the he--” He shouted as he was jerked off his feet, twisting in the hair tendrils, turning back toward Yuhiko, Burabura, and Kyouko. The look in his eyes was frightening; fury and fear, blended together in a horrible cocktail, his face stretched into a grimace of rage at the students for daring to hold him back.
BOOM
His shout was cut off by another explosion. A plume of dirt sprayed into the air from the ground where Principle Kobyashi had just stepped. The earth trembled, the blast echoing off into the distance.
A landmine. Kobayashi had stepped on a landmine. And Kyouko’s “attack” had saved his legs from turning into bloody salsa.
The rest of Kobayashi’s words died in his throat as he was reeled back into the group, and hunkered down alongside the rough stone wall that separated the road they were on from the field. The rat-a-tat-tat of bullets started up, and puffs of dirt started to spray up, bullets peppering the ground around them, or ricocheting off the stone wall. None hit--yet. The gunmen were a decent distance away, and they’d started firing before they’d closed their “jaws” around the students, so they probably didn’t have a good view of anyone. They were firing blind, hoping for a hit by sheer volume. Yuhiko’s maneuver had given the students some time.
Above, Perry’s desperate climb took him away from the flight. A few of the gunmen tried to plink him down, but none hit--yet. He had a few moments of safety, until the soldier with the RPG reloaded, at least. Another shot from that thing would probably be the end of him. A few seconds into the climb, the safety flaps locked up--he’d lost control.
Repairs on a flying plane was somewhere in the neighborhood of “insane,” a municipality of “desperate.” The Red Baron (Jr) was going to need serious time in the shop to get back to full maneuverability again. But...clear out some of the shrapnel locking up the flaps, and restart the stalled engine, and it’d survive another run.
Until someone shot it again, at least.
Angel’s “crashpad” maneuver with her zombie counterpart saved her from a bone-breaking fall--it crumpled under her momentum, folding like a broken doll as it slammed into the ground, pieces scattering apart as the staples and stitching holding it together popped.
The moment she took flight again, the right-side gunmen started to fire at her. Bullets zipped through the air, a few peppering the corpse. Not the best shield, all things considered--it was mostly like that she didn’t take another hit. Her counter-spray of feathers scythed through the treeline, sending a spray of leaves into the air. There were a few cries of pain--a couple of the guns went silent, but overall, it was too long-ranged and unfocused an attack to do more harry and bleed the two separate groups.
It did, however, give her a break in gunfire long enough for her to set down by the helicopter again.
The injured soldier’s eyes lit up when she approached. He was young--just out of his teens, face pale and smeared with drying blood. On his chest was the blinking, bulky object--it didn’t look like a safe up close. More like a...backpack. A backpack, with wires spilling out.
The reason he wasn’t talking was his mouth was wrapped with duct tape.
And something was odd about the way he was waving. Pointing. Not for help--
His eyes were wide, pupils giant, maybe in shock. Like a frightened animal, a rabbit in a predator’s jaws.
He wasn’t looking for help--
He was trying to warn them.
Kobayashi took a deep breath. Between Angel’s speech, the knowledge that he’d been saved from a life in a wheelchair, and company of the students, he’d calmed down. He was still furious--his body was tense as a piano wire, vibrating with cold fury, but he’d started to think.
"Buruburu. Get me to the helicopter? I need to get there. I’ll run, you cover. We’ll need to sweep the ground ahead, set off any more mines before we step on them. Yuhiko, Kyouko--you’re on the gunmen.” He said, taking a sprinter’s pace. He was ready to go the moment they were.

♔Not that Yuhiko would ever say it out loud, given how annoying the girl was and how reluctant he was to ever give her the satisfaction of being unbearably smug, but he was honestly impressed with Kyouko's quick thinking. Sure, she spoke louder than he would have liked, seeing as it was wiser to not try and draw attention to themselves, but her actions spared Principal Kobayashi from a possibly harsh fate. One nod. The tiniest nod of approval that could very easily be missed given the situation. That was all the girl was going to get from him. Perhaps if she didn't seemingly take delight in trying to get on his nerves all the time, then maybe Yuhiko would be able to tolerate her. Maybe he would have even acknowledged her actions out loud with a simple 'Good work.' or something.
But now was not the time to dwell on such petty matters like that. There was still plenty of work to do, after all. Analyzing the area, Yuhiko did his best to try and come up with a plan on the fly. Landmines were now a part of the equation, so those needed to be accounted for. He could fly, so they were no threat to him. Still, flying too high would just make Yuhiko a more obvious target, so that needed to be taken into consideration as well. But what about the others? If they had no method of achieving flight, then that would mean one of two things. Either Yuhiko would need to scout ahead and forcibly detonate any landmine he could find to clear the others' path, or he would need to carry the other first-years, which was not a very pleasant thought for him at all.
It was good that Yuhiko was not alone in formulating a plan. Burabura seemed to have come up with something. Though it certainly felt... peculiar. Cutting his wool? With what, exactly? It was not like Yuhiko always had some shears or scissors on his person. But now was not the time for that. It was time for action. "...Very well." Activating his quirk yet again, Yuhiko began to use his enhanced strength to chop off Burabura's wool with a swift motion of his hand (or as many as it took to get a decent chunk of it off). "So what does this wool do, exactly? What are its properties?" If it were durable, then that would definitely come in handy. Regardless of whatever function this wool served, Yuhiko would do what he could to make the best use of it.
Meanwhile, he was listening to the radio. Yuhiko heard Paw Might's request for cover as he tried making repairs to his plane. Seeing what happened to Angel and how occupied she was, it was natural for Yuhiko to be the one to go. After all, who else here could fly? Speaking of Angel, she began to give the first-years orders. In any other situation, he would have been annoyed at the thought of someone else telling him what to do, even if the winged girl was his senior. However, Yuhiko was mature. Someone needed to be. Plus, the situation pretty much left no room for any argument. So he would go.
...Or at least he would have if not for Principal Kobayashi giving the first-years orders of his own. Considering that the man was definitely higher up on the hierarchy than Angel, his orders would take precedence over hers. Still, if Yuhiko could feasibly carry out both orders at once, then he would not hesitate to do so. After all, it would be in bad taste to not at least try to assist Paw Might. Yes, he was a pro-hero who could take care of himself, but why not make it a bit easier for him to accomplish his objective?
"Consider it done, sir."
Not wanting to waste time with unnecessary words, he turned to leave, but not before giving Kyouko a few words. "I'll go this way." Yuhiko moved his head to the left, in the general direction closest to where Paw Might was. "You take the opposite route. Logically, we'll cover more ground by splitting up." Not that he felt the need to say it, but Yuhiko felt it best to work alone. He was already trying to both go after the gunmen and lighten up Paw Might's baggage if he could. He had no interest in trying to watch out for the girl's safety as well. Anyway, she was capable of looking out for herself. There was no need to show any unnecessary concern.
Regardless of whether or not Kyouko agreed with his plan, Yuhiko took off, not interested in anything that would just slow him down. With his emerald active, Yuhiko was flying. Not high enough to be an easy target, but more than enough height to avoid any potential landmines. His plan was simple. Fly low and try to stick to stealth as long as possible. Use his environment as cover, swerving around and between trees. And try to locate the exact location of the gunmen. In addition, Yuhiko would keep a watchful eye out for any form of danger. Hidden gunmen, traps, potential ambushes, whatever nasty surprises the enemy had lying in store for him, Yuhiko was determined to not allow himself to be ensnared or attacked. No, he would not be the prey, but the predator.
On the way, if there would be any obvious danger heading Paw Might's way, Yuhiko would try and get just close enough to use his quirk to bat anything away in an attempt to give the hero the time and cover he needed. Assuming of course that there was any danger to him to begin with. If Yuhiko did not need to expend his limited energy, then he did not want to. But if Paw Might did need the help, then Yuhiko would not hesitate to fly up and assist him. Otherwise, Yuhiko would continue to stick to stealth as he tried to get close to wherever the gunmen were hiding.
Assuming that Yuhiko was able to spot the gunmen without he himself being spotted, then he would activate his sapphire, creating a ball of energy. He would then activate his ruby to empower and harden that energy to give it some force. And then? Blast the gunmen with said energy, aiming to knock them out by aiming for the back of their heads. If he could not keep the element of surprise, then Yuhiko would simply use the trees as cover (and possibly Burabura's wool as makeshift body armor if it proved to be durable enough).
Of course, Yuhiko was more than prepared for things to go south. He did not have unlimited energy to spam, and he was not exactly the most durable person out there. But regardless, Yuhiko refused to back down. He would fight, and he would do everything he could to seize victory. He had an objective, and he refused to let anything get in the way of clearing that objective. Not even his own body, which would soon begin to show the symptoms of overusing his quirk if Yuhiko kept having to use it.

Saving Private She watched the principal running away from them guns a blazing and fear began to overtake her. What if this was a trap? What if he got hurt because he was doing things on his own. Sure he was probably a very capable man, but the if's were too high not to do anything. Her pink hair rushing towards the principal she could feel the seconds elongate in time. Every second she could feel her heartbeat and in her mind, she chanted for it to reach him in time. She did not know that this wasn't a trap or not, but she feared for the worst. Better to air on the side of caution after all right?
As her hair got closer and closer the gap between both the principal and the students felt so wide. Was she going to make it in time? What if she couldn't save him? What would Kyouko do? She couldn't bear the idea of the principal dying because she wasn't good enough with her quirk to save him. Kyouko knew she wasn't the most talented student or the most studious of the bunch, but she still knew she needed to prove herself. She was a teenager after all that's what they did they wanted to make a difference in the world in some way or form. Her dream was just to inspire people to live their lives how they wanted without letting anyone boggle them down. Freedom was her mantra and she knew she needed to work towards it. So focusing hard on her quirk she closed her eyes and pushed herself to catch up to the principal and when she felt the hair strands wrap themselves around the principal she began pulling him back.
He wasn't too far off from his original position though when something unfortunate happened. The location in which he had been standing just before Kyouko brought him back exploded. There were traps! Kyouko's eyes widened in fear and astonishment. This was a dangerous situation she had no real way of dealing with landmines unless she risked using her hair strands. Wait using her hair strands? Yes, that was a way to make a path for them! She could increase the density of her strands and cut them off at a certain point to use them as weights to activate the landmines. It would mean she would lose some of her strength and power for any more beasts they would encounter, but it could help them reach the helicopter a bit safer.
There wasn't much time to think about it though as she pulled into her bag and took out a pair of scissors and began creating some weighted hairpieces. She wasn't going to leave herself defenseless though as she only cut up about one of her pigtails worth of hair. She looked at her teammates to see what they were doing in this instance and it seemed Bura had a similar thought with his wool. Their quirks were surprisingly compatible. Is that why she? No now wasn't the time for such silly thoughts she needed to focus on the task at hand. She would take clumps of weighted hair, leaving some for herself, and hand them to Bura, Yuhiko, and the Principal. "Use these to activate any landmines they should have enough weight to detonate them at a safe distance. We can make a path with these."
Kyouko looked at Bura and gave him a nod at his instructions and began cutting some wool off him too creating a wool coat for herself. It felt weird to be taking scissors to someone else fur, but it was what needed to be done to help the team. Once completed they were then given orders by both Angel and the principal. Choosing to follow who orders was an easy task for as the mission giver was the principal. His orders held priority in his mind than the third year who seemed to charge recklessly without much planning. Kyouko nodded at the principal and turned to Yuhiko and was about to suggest they go together to ensure each other's safety, but he approached her first. He, unfortunately, offered they work separately. She felt this was a very reckless attitude he was taking and wanted to argue with him about how it would be better if they stuck together. Yet he had a point the sooner they stopped the gunman the safer the situation for the rest of the group would be. So she bit her tongue and responded, "Just be careful." She was honestly concerned for the other student not because she didn't think he couldn't handle himself just she would rather have the majority of their group come back in one piece.
Once Yuhiko was gone Kyouko took a few seconds to collect herself. She was the last of the group to leave the stone wall with everyone splitting up it was now up to her and her alone to accomplish her task. Kyouko wasn't used to doing such things by herself she usually had the support of her classmates and she wasn't sure she was going to be able to complete the task given to her. She needed to try though and try she would. She sprinted to the treeline to the right and hide within the trees as she made her way to the gunman on the right. She watched and waited for her opening and when she knew she could take her chance she launched her hair at the gunman and wrapped him in a sleeper hold while pulling him away from the gun, but still keeping her distance from him. Kyouko wasn't about to take the life of someone without getting proper identification of the person shooting at them. She wasn't here to take the life of someone and she refused to do so. Her classmates and principal could yell at her later, but for now, she stuck to her morals. No one would die thanks to her actions. At least she hoped so. 1007 | @tagged | notes ulla Kobayashi

After yanking several chunks of broken metal and sticking and scraping together what bits and pieces he had to get things running he got the old girl flying again a bit more properly but even he could see it was merely going to be a minor patch job. But for now that was perhaps enough. He could worry about giving her the full work over later when he was safer and properly had more time. For now he still had chaos to tend with bellow wiggling along the side of his plane and quickly plopping back in the pilots seat as the jostle even gave the plane a light shake that didn't give him much hope.
But all the same the buzzing would of the propeller would spin into action as he dove back down strong trying to avoid any incoming bullets and spray fire at any enemies he could catch eye on trying to lay on support for the students bellow from his tiny sky plane. It may not have been much in its condition but a second set of shots from the sky would always be good to keep the enemy off balance and looking in several directions hopefully it would be enough.

Principle Kobayashi swallowed and nodded. His eyes were hooded in shadow, but there was pain in his face--he still thought they were too young for this. But this was who he had: three first years. His bodyguards, his army. With a sharp, formal movement, he snapped his right hand up in a salute at Kyouko and Yukihiko as they moved to outflank the soldiers. Then, he and Bura stepped into the field to draw fire.
Instantly, bursts of fire sprayed across the moonlit field as rifles started a steady rat-a-tat-tat at the principal and Bura--they made a perfect distraction. Neither of the groups of gunmen turned their fire on Yuhiko or Kyouko--which made sense, but they also didn’t fire on Angel, even though she was in the open, by the helicopter.
Something was off there…
Getting to the groups of soldiers, for both Kyouko and Yuhiko, couldn’t have taken more than a minute or so, but it probably felt like a lifetime. Scattered gunshots, and muffled shouts from the trees--muzzle flashes to mark the locations. Both groups were low to the ground, hidden in foliage, leaves dancing in the shadows, obscuring any way to actually see them. They could have been going to deal with a handful of soldiers each, or a small army.
Kyouko made contact first, huddled by the fence where it crossed the treeline. It was still hard to see in the dark--but--behind the muzzle flashes: two gunmen, both dressed in black, “tactical” looking gear, but without any visible uniform patches, ski masks covering their faces like bank robbers. They were lying flat against the ground, just at the edge of the trees, covered in plants.
“Reload!” One called out, raising his rifle. Smoke drifted from the tip, which glowed a soft orange from the volume of fire that had been pumped through it--they’d been firing for numbers, not accuracy. The second one pulled out a clip of bullets from his bandoliers, handing it to his partner.
“Can’t hear shit! Keep an eye out for the sky for that flying rat!” The second one exclaimed cheerfully, tapping his own ears as he looked around.
They sounded more like they were on a hunting trip than aiming to murder high-schoolers, all things considered.
Kyouko was on them in a flash, before the first gunman could reload. Hair tendrils wormed through the underbrush, and--wrapped around him.
“MMMMRMM!” The first gunman called out, dropping his gun and flailing at the invisible attack.
The second gunman reacted lethargically, grabbing his own rifle and standing up straight, spraying a volley of bullets in a wild arc in all directions.
“AMBUSH! THIS IS GROUP BETA! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK BY A...TREE...THING!” He shouted into his radio.
The only warning was a screech of metal and then something grabbed Angel around the neck from behind. Big. Heavy. Vice-like.
The rest of the group had a better view. The moment Angel stepped up to the injured soldier on the helicopter, a man burst out from inside the burning fuselage.
Yuhiko’s group wasn’t much different--two men, in ski masks and black market tactical gear, lying flat in a hunting blind, taking turns firing at the field.
His approach, however, wasn't quite as stealthy. As he powered up his sapphire, one of the gunman spotted him out of the corner of his eye.
“Freak! Nine-oh-clock!”
They both turned, rolling away, and the first blast of energy went wide, tearing through the undergrowth and sending up a cloud of leaves.
This duo was jumpier, and as they jerked into motion--it was easier to see why. The ground around them was littered by what looked like knives, stuck in trees, standing upright on the ground.
Not knives, though...feathers.
This was the group Angel had attacked, and it looked like she’d drawn blood, even if she hadn’t taken either of them down.
The two gunmen leveled rifles, and fired back. The bullets tore through the trees as Yuhiko dived into cover, and he felt one nick his chest, grazing off Burabura’s armor. It felt like he’d been punched. A burning, sharp pain in his stomach, that made the teenager double over. Bruised ribs in the morning.
The choking roar of an engine rose above the sound of gunfire.
Perry to the rescue.
Leaves fell in a spray as Perry’s little gatling gun rained down, tracking one of Yuhiko’s attackers. One of them got a direct hit--not lethal, but the spray of tiny toothpick bullets was painful enough that he staggered back, dropping his gun, and covering his face.
“What the fuck--it’s the raccoon, he’s back!”
The second one turned to fire on Perry, leaving him open to Yuhiko’s next attack.
Meanwhile, back at the Helicopter…
A screech of metal was the only warning Angel got, then something hard, rusted, and metal closed around the back of her neck.
Bura and Principle Kobayashi got the best view of what was going on. As the third-year hero had stepped up to rescue the injured soldier, a man had loped out of the helicopter with the strength and speed of a panther, and closed a “hand” around the back of her neck.
Well, mostly a man--
He was big, strong, built like a 80s action movie hero, with rippling slabs of muscle that could only come from steroids, or a quirk, a wall of meat. Grey hair, cropped short in a military buzz-cut, and an outfit that consisted of only camouflage trousers, boots, and a black tank-top. That wasn’t all though--the muscle alone would have made him someone you didn’t want to box with, but the real danger was the mess of metal woven in and out of his body. Tubes, arching from his arms to a tank on his back, and into a mask on that covered the bottom of his face, and metal arms, bolted onto his human skeleton. Some sort of advanced, military-looking cybernetics, human muscle flooded with drugs and backed by a metal exoskeleton. And his right arm--the one holding Angel--it ended in a giant metal claw, and several gun-like barrels. Some sort of weaponized hand to replace his real one, something that looked like it was meant to harvest grain. Wrapped around the back of Angel’s neck.
Hanging off it was a few dozen scraps of fabric that looked a lot like little flags, each different from the next.
Not flags. Masks. Trophies. Little scraps of costumes, stolen from vigilantes and villains over what must have been a very successful career hunting them.
Capebreaker.
“Kobayashi.” He hissed. It was the voice that had taunted the Principle before, pumped through speakers around his throat, metallic and staticky. “This one was standing up for you. She ruined that undead monstrosity. Jumped into the fray, no questions asked. She’s...what..?”
He breathed heavily, like his was injured, or worse, excited, and shifting his grip, fingers tense enough that all he had to do was squeeze with that giant claw, and Angel's neck would go crunch, turning her around so she was face to face with him, instead of facing away.
“A hero? A fine one. Or she will be…”
He shook his head, as though the word saddened him for some reason.
“You wouldn’t want to cut her career short. She looks bad. Brave. Injured. We’ve both seen these injuries. She should see a doctor.”
His voice dropped lower, speaking to Angel now.
“Do you want a doctor, little bird?” Tell the Principle I need him to open something for me. A present. For old time’s sake.”
He laughed.
“You make him sound like a good principle. A good soldier. Did you know he used to hunt people like you?”
Capebreaker spoke louder, raising his voice for all the students to hear.
“That’s right. Brave Private Kobayashi. A traitor. A Quirk Hunter...he’s gone so soft.”

| B efore Angel even had the chance to react, or move the wounded soldier out of the way she heard the loud screech of metal being moved and then the familiar feeling of metal around her neck, but unlike her collar which was dull this claw was sharp. Angel despite being extremely hurt still tried to struggle by wiggling around and pawing at the claw however this caused something to happen that Angel should have seen coming. one of her broken ribs had poked through something, most likely her kidney causing her mouth to slowly begin to fill with blood as she was choked, and yet she still continued to struggle. Angel while struggling and pawing at the claw listened to the villian known as cape breaker ask what she was and then barated her principal for putting her and the others into the line of fire. He even taunted her Principal about how severe her injuries were and said that she could use a doctor and while he was not wrong he wouldn't give the man the satisfaction of being right. Upon hearing what her Principal used to be however, a quirk hunter like her father Angel paused for just a moment before using what grip she had to try and loosen the villians grip on her just enough so she could speak though it was difficult with her throat filling with her own blood though she tried to speak loud enough for her Principal to hear as she glared at her captor. "Great men..are forged in fire..It's the privlage of lesser men like you to light the flame..."As she finished speaking and her mouth filled with blood she decided to play a little dirty by grinning a blood filled grin at cape breaker before like she had done many times before spit a mouth full of blood directly toward his eyes hoping to disorient him into both letting her go, and giving the other students and her Principal the opening they needed to hopefully take the man down, and get the soldier to safety. In the condition she was in, Angel knew that she would be unable to fight if she had to move and so if she were to land a final blow it would have to come from up close and personal. Feeling as if she feeling her life ebbing from her body she did her absolute best to turn her head toward her principal, and decided that if this was her end she would leave him with the best last words she could muster. [attr="class","susurrus"] [attr="class","jikan"]
[attr="class","hiraeth"]年轻的公牛期待着星星 | [attr="class","achee"] [attr="class","castleonthehill"] ❝ So much was going on, and Bura's mind wanted him to freeze up and scream at all the stress and fear coursing through his veins. But the young man pushed through his sense of dread and fear as he listened to the others speak-but for reasons he kept quiet. He didn't want them to hear the chokiness and fear bubbling up to his chest and throat that makes it hard to breathe and speak. Bura did his best to respond to his allies with either a nod or a shake of his head. [break] And only responding twice, once each to Yuhiko and Kyouko, to Yuhiko, he said, "The wool will protect you." He said perhaps a bit curtly since he didn't want to speak too long to give away the fear in his voice. And in the same manner, he said, "Thank you, Kyouko, y-you be safe too." but, there was a moment his voice gave out, and he choked for a moment. Bura's nerves got shot, and his rage started to falter, and weakness started to take its place. [break] But he cannot be weak, not here, not right now. Bura has to do his best to protect the principal, and the others have his back. He cannot falter now. He has so many people depending on him right now to do his best to save as many people as they can. So all Bura can do is his best and hopes it is enough to save the day even if it means pushing himself beyond the normal limits that he can do. People depend on him and the others to end this nightmare. And he won't let his fear ruin this for them. So Bura, with his wool cut messily to about neck's length, and with pink strands of hair in hand, he dashed forward with the principal to save the day. [break] Despite his fear bubbling madly in his stomach that threatened to rise into a full-blown panic from being fired at, the courage and rage beating fast in his chest and quickly spreading throughout his body in a warmth that if not for his therapy sessions with Mosa-sensei would've probably consumed him in a deep rage. But thanks to weeks of therapy, he has managed to control his all-consuming rage. [break] Bura protected the principal as best as he could as they make their way to the helicopter. It was rough, and Bura probably got grazed by a few bullets no thanks due to his massive size and him deliberately blocking the view of the principal and even picking him up a few times to dodge a direct hit for the both of them. Thanks to his speed, he was able to outpace the quirkless principal. Bura and the principal arrived at the helicopter and watching as a giant of a man -which coming from him meant something- picking up Angel by the back of the neck and lifting her high for them to watch. [break] Bura glared at Capebreaker as he taunted them, trying to distract them by saying that Principal Kobayashi was a quirk hunter. Despite Bura playing ignorance his whole childhood. Bura knew why he had no father, nor uncles, nor any male relatives but himself in his immediate family. Bura's family, an offshoot of one of the first quirked families in Japan, The Roundhouses. His uncles and male cousins sacrificed themselves to make sure he and his cousins, aunties, and mom could have some semblance of a good life. And thus, Bura had a unique privilege that not many other quirkers can have for the principal. Mercy. [break] So when Angel made her speech to the principal, and she finished it off by spitting blood into the man's eyes. Bura would use this opening to Run as fast as he could forward the strands of pink hair in hand like spears and throw them as hard at the deranged man he could, aiming for the tubes hanging off of his body, hoping for, praying for those being weak points. Bura hoped that the pigtail's worth of harden cement-like hair was enough to do the job. Thank you, Kyouko. Bura thought to himself as he watches what his attack does and prepares to fight as best as he has in his life, depending on what happens next. ✉ tag -- ( @someone ) ✎ 715 words ※ notes here, please keep it short. |

Post by Yuhiko Yuzuki on Oct 19, 2020 13:24:03 GMT -4
♔So this wool was supposedly going to protect Yuhiko. That meant that it did indeed have defensive properties. Very good to know. Yuhiko did not hesitate to put it on as some sort of makeshift body armor. Who knows, perhaps it might come in handy. "I'll be sure to make good use of this. You have my gratitude." It was funny how a dire situation like this could help with toning down on Yuhiko's rudeness. While still very far from polite or respectful, at least this would show the others that yes, Yuhiko could in fact show slivers of respect and gratitude if he ever felt like doing so.
It wasn't just Burabura who had something to give, but Kyouko as well. In any other situation, Yuhiko would refuse to even touch the hair. But the girl did explain the purpose, and it was an admittedly good idea. So just this once. "Very well. I suppose you have my gratitude as well." That was the closest Yuhiko would get to actually saying 'thank you' to the girl. Maybe one day he ought to actually try and fix his manners and not be so cold? The way he saw it, there was no point in worrying about such trivial matters if he could not get out of this alive. If... no, when I get out of this alive, perhaps I will reconsider my evaluation of you. You're annoying, yes, but thankfully not useless. Not that Yuhiko would say this thought out loud, as there was a mission to carry out.
It was a shame that Yuhiko could not 'give' something to Kyouko and Burabura the same way they gave something to him and each other. I hope they don't expect me to cut off bits of my hair now. Unfortunately, his quirk was rather selfish in nature, only empowering Yuhiko himself. There was no way for him to be able to pass on the benefits of his Triple Gems to others. Normally, Yuhiko would be too selfish to even want to do so, but in a situation like this, it would have come in handy to be able to pass on his enhanced strength, his ability to fly, his range, or his body's naturally enhanced regeneration. Or can I? Hmm, I can't test that now, but it would be intriguing to test that theory later.
But it was time to head out. Yuhiko barely registered Kyouko's warning to be careful as he headed out. Who do you think you're talking to? He thought to himself as he moved forward. Yuhiko was pretty much never not careful, so in his mind, the girl's words were wasted. Not that his intentions were rude. Not this time, anyway. It was simply his way of saying 'Don't worry about me, I'll be alright'.
Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to remain stealthy and cautious, perhaps Yuhiko would have been better off taking Kyouko's words far more seriously than he normally did. Despite being careful, despite the light emitted from his gems not being too bright, it was still just bright enough for the gunmen to notice him. Despite his best efforts, Yuhiko could not dive and get behind cover in time, gritting his teeth in pain as he felt the bullet graze him. Ugh! Damn! Seeing where the bullet had hit, Yuhiko was now very grateful for Burabura's wool. Without it, he could have had to endure far worse pain than this.
However, Yuhiko refused to stay down for long. He was a hero-in-training. There was no way he could allow himself to succumb to this. He could still move! He could still fight! And fight he shall! Yuhiko refused to go down here and now! Even if he could feel the gradually increasing exhaustion from using his quirk a lot, Yuhiko refused to back down. I am destined for greater things! I will rise up and become the greatest of heroes! I will take my place at the top! And I will NOT allow these faceless nobodies to strip me of my goal!
As Yuhiko got up and readied himself, he heard the sound of the plane. Paw Might! He scoffed upon hearing the gunman's words. You moron. That's a possum. But now was not the time to look down on those idiots. It was time to help take them down. Activating his ruby and sapphire, Yuhiko charged up a ball of energy, ready to blast it the moment he had an opening. And the moment the other gunman tried to attack Paw Might, Yuhiko would capitalize on the opening, firing a red blast of energy right at the gunman's torso. Hopefully, the way the blast hit the guy would not only push the gunman back, but also knock the weapon out of his hands before he even had the chance to pull the trigger.
Slowly and cautiously walking up to the two gunmen (and readying another ball of energy in case one of the gunmen tried to get up or do anything), Yuhiko looked down on the two, glaring at them like the peasants beneath his feet that they were. "Better a freak than a lawless troglodyte. Know your place, criminal scum." And with that, Yuhiko would use his foot to deliver a swift yet restrained blow to the head of each gunmen. Not hard enough to do any serious damage, but hard enough to knock both of them out and ensure that both men would stay unconscious for a while. Of course, if they were already knocked out (and Yuhiko would check on both gunmen to make sure they were really down), then Yuhiko would not bother with hitting them when they were already down. After all, unlike these guys, he was not an uncivilized brute.
"Threats... successfully... neutralized."
Yuhiko could feel his body being in pain. He had no doubt overused his quirk. He felt tired, thirsty, sore, and he had a minor headache. But despite all that, Yuhiko continued to stay standing. Until the mission was successfully complete, until everyone else was safe, he was not finished. He needed to go on. He refused to allow himself even a moment of rest. He needed to stay strong.
What Yuhiko did next, however, depended of whether or not Paw Might had any specific instructions for him. If the pro-hero gave him orders, then Yuhiko would carry them out. Otherwise, Yuhiko wanted to keep going, carefully survey the area while still sticking to stealth and caution, remove any potential obstacles or threats, and meet up with the others to see how everyone else was doing. Putting Kyouko's hairs to use, Yuhiko would carefully move around, throwing the girl's hair on suspicious spots (and even some non-suspect areas). His caution would reward him in the form of discovering and safely detonating two landmines.
Regardless of what Yuhiko's objective was, he refused to allow himself to collapse. Not yet. Not... yet... I... I still have work to do!

Saving Private Kyouko felt worried for Bura after getting his response to her donation of locks. She was worried about the big fellow now. Sure he could handle himself, but when he wasn't confident or at least pretending to be worry would encroach her. Still, she needed to trust in his abilities and that even if he did get injured he would be able to take care of himself and the principal. Taking a deep breath she responded with, "If I sense you are in danger just know I will come rushing to help." She gave him a warm smile, but her worry was still painted upon her face. Despite knowing full well he was capable she couldn't help and be worried about the big loveable oaf. His safety above all else is what mattered to her even more so than the principals. Sure his safety was apart of the mission, but she wasn't close to him like she was to Bura. Kyouko would be completely destroyed if Bura was killed during the mission. So she vowed to herself she would keep an eye on the big fella as the mission continued.
Then when Yuhiko responded with thanks for her gift too she couldn't help and feel a bit shocked. She was almost certain he would discard her gift. So it was a pleasant surprise to know he was willing to accept her offer of help. Maybe there were some redeeming qualities to his personality than she thought. She would have to reevaluate her opinion on him later, but for now, it was time to continue the mission. As she snuck around the fenceline she took a few deep breaths to calm her mind. Kyouko would keep telling herself in a chantlike manner that Bura would be ok. Yuhiko could handle himself and Perry was tenacious. She didn't know much about Angel, but she had to have some experience she wouldn't get taken down too easily even if Kyouko didn't care for the girl at all. She was a teammate for now so her safety was to some degree important to Kyouko.
As she reached the location of the gunman she found them in very dark clothing doing their best to stay hidden. Much like how she was trying to stay hidden in the trees. As they fired she noticed their careful rhythm and communication to get things done it was like they were a machine. If it wasn't for the rest of the group she was with she would be fascinated by their uniform abilities and skills. For now, though she needed to focus on removing the obstacles for her comrades. As her hair made their way to one of the men it reached its target and would begin to slowly put the man to sleep, but this alerted the attention of the other man who began to shoot erratically. Most of the bullets missed Kyouko's direction, but one grazed the fur wrapped around her. The wool kept her from experience any pain, but the sudden sound caused her to make a quick squeak.
She could only hope the noise of the bullets didn't give away her position, but just in case it did when she finally got the one soldier asleep she did the same to the other man. Her hair tendrils would wrap around him like the man before and before long would make him unconscious too. When this task was done she needed to disable the guns they had and making her hair as sharp as possible she attempted to either slice their guns in half or make them inoperable at least. "You won't be able to harm my friends so easily now," she spoke to herself as she looked through the trees back to the center of the action.
That's when she saw the horrors going around that area. Though it was a good distance away she could make out a giant hulking figure holding what Kyouko thought was Angel. "What is that?" Kyouko found herself saying quietly. She watched as other figures were getting closer and closer to the monstrosity. That was the rest of the group right? Should she go and help them? Wait what about the thing that caused the explosion to happen earlier? Where was it again? Oh yeah, it came from the treeline opposing them when they got here. Would it be wise of her to make sure that weapon didn't have the possibility of firing again? Was she even able to do this task by herself or should she join the rest of the group? She was right about there being traps and saved the principal before would she be right that maybe the giant creature as bait to bring them all within explosion range?
Which was the right answer? Kyouko didn't know what to do! Too many possibilities of action ran through her head. What should she do? Taking a quick breath she looked at the rest of the group and said shakily, "I'm sorry." She quickly ran across the treeline towards where the explosion had to have possibly shot from hoping just hoping her choice was correct. "Please don't let me be wrong," Kyouko would whisper as she made her way to the area as quickly as she could taking glances back at the center of the field making sure no one was looking for her. She didn't want to seem like she had abandoned the group for her antics. Kyouko just wanted to make sure to tie up all loose ends for the group. She would of course jump out and help if they needed her, but she wasn't sure how much help she could be to the team. "I believe in you all," Kyouko thought to herself as she could feel her tears welling in her eyes. She was fighting her instincts to help her friends doing this. Going against one's codes and morals was difficult. It was like she was not only fighting on the battlefield but inside her mind too. Kyouko wanted them to succeed and sometimes that meant making the hard decisions. To her this was such a choice and she could only hope and pray it was the correct one. 1037 | @tagged | notes ulla Kobayashi

Perry continued his strafing runs trying to give openings to his students to carry on as needed. The Red Baron Jr. was in need of repairs and some overhauls at this point. But it still sputtered along as the engine made knocking sounds as a sign something wasn't fully repaired. But mid flight repairs while clinging to the wings if a bi plane was dangerous and even then even in the best of conditions one could only supply so many repairs at such a time.
During one of his runs one of the enemy turned to fire upon him becoming open to one of his students. But the few shots made while not direct hits had rattled the engine and send his plane spinning lightly veering off course to one side. He flew quickly towards the ground as it spun lightly making it impossible to even glide properly as the engine powered down. Perry leaped from the side of the plane with a wounded pride more then his actual body as mere moments after he leaped two things would appear.
First being his plane exploding where it hit the ground nearby. Small splinters of metal and wood shooting out every which way. Likely making his plane now more of a salvage job he'd need to work on repairing. The other appearance in the sky would have been his small parachute popping open. The size of it barely bigger then a toy sized one as he slowly began to hover towards the ground. At the moment at the mercy of anyone that might fire upon a parachuting hero. He felt a little nervous and hoped these evil bad guys wouldn't be willing to commit a war crime since technically shooting a parachute mid jump was considered as such. For now he slowly drifted towards the ground a little bruised from all the jostling of his plane prior in the rough flight.

In the southern treeline, the second gunman apparently hasn’t, in fact, read the rules of engagement. He aims down his sights at Perry as the Possum ejects, letting out a wild, whooping cry as he fires. Yuhiko’s blast of energy strikes him in the chest like a hundred-kilo punch a second later. The gunman’s volley goes wide--a blast of bullets flying off into the smoke-filled night sky, just missing the plummeting possum. The gunman drops his weapon, knocks head over heels into a tree, the rifle landing a meter or two from his feet.
The gunman crawls for his gun, but Yuhiko reaches him first. Just as the soldier’s hands starts to fumble for his weapon, the first-year UA student delivers the knock-out kick. He goes limp. Down. The second one is easier--still sobbing and trying to pull Perry’s needles out of his face, he doesn’t even react when Yuhiko walks up to finish him.
Sadly, neither of them seemed to be in a good state to appreciate the young Yuzuki heir’s one-liner.
Perry didn’t deliver orders, so Yuhiko’s sweep of the area is quick, and painless, illuminated by his gems. In a few seconds--long enough for the bruises of the bullet-impact to start regenerating, he’s done. There’s not much to find. A small camouflage blind, with night-vision scopes and binoculars, where the soldiers had set-up. Radios on both men, ominously silent. Some barbed wire facing the field, but not only a little--they’d probably hiked here, and hadn’t had much room to carry stuff. Extra ammo. Nothing more. All of the big equipment was probably with the guy who’d fired the RPG, and Capebreaker…
Speaking of the former…
Kyouko’s second soldier is panicky, and caught off-guard. His wild bullet spray grazes her, and once again, Bura’s wool comes through, saving her punctured arm, and instead leaving her with a ugly bruise for tomorrow. As her hair closes in, he does show a surprising amount of foresight, and yanks out a knife. A swipe--two--before he wraps him, then he’s down. But that length of hair has lost some inches.
Guns twisted, two unconscious soldiers behind them, Kyouko moves on, skirting around the field, the confrontation between Capebreaker, Angel, Burabura, and Kobayashi. There’s the sound of gunfire from across the field, the crackle of smoke, but it fades as she moves deeper into the trees, light dimming in the dense foliage.
By the time Kyouko reaches the back of the field, she’s fumbling in the dark, and this soldier is harder to find than the last two. Shapes form and vanish as a breeze stirs the little forest, the branches forming into facsimiles of enemies. Silhouettes, hounds, jagged men and women that appear and vanish. Paranoia all around.
Nothing real--nothing--until--
“Capebreaker. Capebreaker--I have a clear line. Do I take the shot?” A young man’s voice--a little ahead, tense and panicky. Nothing she can see, but he’s there, speaking rabid Japanese.
Meanwhile…
In the center of the field, Capebreaker hoists Angel into the air, as easily as a toddler playing with dolls. Her defiance strikes a nerve. A vein pulses in the grizzled man’s temple as he looks at her, wild-eyed and full of anger and pride.
“Great men? You’re a child. You don’t know shit--not even enough to know what you don’t know. Sacrifice, hard choices--that’s the measure of a man!” He growls, his bloodshot eyes flicking between Angel and the duo of Bura and Kobayashi, clearly expecting the Principle or his student to try to make a move.
His paranoid focus puts him a great position to be blinded when she spits in his face.
“FUCK-!” He shouts, swiping at his face with his “human” arm, trying to clear his eyes. He raises Angel higher in her other hand, shaking her. The world starts to spin, pain rising up, but it’s quickly replaced by a light-headed calm, everything dimming.
Kobayashi sucks in a breath, dropping to a knee as Burabura throws Kyouko’s hair-javelin. It strikes with impressive aim, severing a tube--one of four, total. Capebreaker stumbles, as gas floods out, a weird, ugly metallic whine coming from his metallic exoskeleton, and lets out a scream of rage.
Kobayashi braces his hand on his wrist, aiming down his pistol, and his face goes completely calm. His eyes track Capebreaker’s arm, searching for a weak point. Then, he fires.
Sparks fly, the bullet striking somewhere on Capebreaker’s back, on the side with the mechanical arm, a little below the severed tube. The claw around Angel’s neck goes open, and she drops to the ground.
Capebreaker reels and thrashes, turning to block any more attacks with his mechanical arm, stepping back toward the helicopter, his human hand adjusting wires and tubes, trying to restore functions. But despite his anger--despite the scream of rage, he’s laughing now, furious and full of bloody excitement.
“God. Guess you’ve still got that dead eye, Principle. Cute kids, really--you’ve got them trained like little bloodhounds. You know, I was worried you might actually listen for a moment!” He grunts, flexing his hand at the claw comes back to life.
Kobayashi shakes his head, shutting out Capebreaker’s taunts, and nods at Bura in thanks. Then he dashes forward again, going not for the cyborg terror, but for where Capebreaker had dropped Angel.
“Everyone on him! Let’s get our injured, get the safe, and go! If you’ve got shot at “Capebreaker,” take it, but look for a small black box!” Kobayashi calls out, opening his communication to everyone.
Kobayashi makes it to the helicopter, stopping above Angel, firing more shots into Capebreaker--they continue to glance off the robotic hand. Without a second thought, he lifts the hero student when he reaches her.
“Let’s go--” He begins.
“Coward! Don’t tell me you’re running again!” Capebreaker shouts, charging forward. Something on the inside of the hand whirs--the cyborg pushes off the helicopter, hand stretched out like a gun.
“Shoot them! Useless!” Capebreaker adds, touching a button on his mask. Calling his men. Or...man.
In the woods, Capebreaker’s voice crackles through the RPG gunner’s headset, loud, and close.
Kyouko still can’t see him, but he’s very close. No more than two meters in front of her. Somewhere in a big, shadowy bush, lying down, probably. It’s gonna be one of those “hit, and guess” situations.
One the south side, Yuhiko’s thrown hair sets off two quick explosions as he pushes forward. The path to the helicopter is probably clear. He can attack Capebreaker, look for the safe, or help Kobayashi and Angel.
Finally, Perry floats over the field, blissfully safe from the battle below. He has a perfect view of everything--his students, converging on the cyborg and the helicopter, Kobayashi trying to lift Angel and carry her to safety, and finally, the injured soldier, forgotten in the chaos, still lying by the nose of the helicopter, trying to crawl to safety. The object on his chest continues to blink, a slow, steady countdown.
Probably a bomb. Not a problem to diffuse for a possum of his skills. But bombs can be useful, too. You just needed a target, like a giant ex-military quirk-hunting cyborg, and a clear area. Oh, and maybe the soldier knew where the safe was.
