INTO THE FIELD THE MORNING AIR WAS CRISP AND CLEAR—such was the luxury of a summer morning. Tobias had arranged to meet with his third-year apprentices on-campus, near the library, at around eight o’ clock. Saturday’s and Sunday’s were often overseen by the substitute teacher, since she had no classes to supervise, or by student-assistants, which allowed Tobias the freedom of doing fieldwork off-campus.
The library, however, wouldn’t open for another few hours—so after making himself a thermos of hot tea, the crimson gentleman locked the door, and meandered to the edge of the cement planter-box, where he would await the arrival of his apprentices.
The prospect of taking students with him on a day of investigative work was, admittedly, nerve-wracking. While he had hammed-up the life of a hero’s detective for the murder mystery months prior, it really wasn’t as luxurious as Tobias had made it out to be. In fact, it could be downright boring at times.
Tobias had spared the heroic hopefuls hours upon hours of information processing and grunt work, and instead left the “fun” aspects of investigation to today’s events.
The Informant drew his travel-mug to his lips, testing the temperature of his tea. Still too hot to even taste the flavor, he lowered it again.
He checked his wristwatch. Quarter ‘til eight. They’d be arriving any minute now…

6:00am
Feng heads out at the usual time to go on her morning jog as she works out the restless energy that she felt; it was a change of pace as she would be working under The Informant. She did not get much sleep as she got worked up over the usual but she calmed her heart as she went on her run which lasted about thirty minutes. Which then followed by her returning home and cleaning up.
7:10am
She ate her breakfast and put on her hero outfit as she made her all of it was on and ready. It was her uniform and her symbol of her hard work. The moment she exited her home, she felt the crisp morning air hit her face as she walked her way towards UA. Her expression remained calm and determined as she continued to think about various things.
7:40
She arrived on campus and walked towards the library to see Tobias-sensei already waiting there. “Morning, Informant-sensei”, she greeted as she jogged her way towards him. She stood near him a she looked around to realize she was the first one there. “I assume todays work is going to be more hands on or is there something else you have in store for us third year students?”

Groooooaaaaan, she did not want to get out of bed. She was always early, always there to get up in the morning for a run or some meditation to get started. Today she did not want to leave her bed. Truth be told, she hated herself nowadays and even if she was excited about today in general, the working hard and all that jazz was something she did not like. Nor the fact that she had to make a pretty or petty decision about something she did not want to break apart but considered she had to. Tired about it all and just not in the mood to get out of bed, she turned around, fiddled with her phone for another ten minutes and just lay there.
Zuzu came over to lick her cheek and she petted him until he purred, okay fine, she could do this today if Zuzu motivated her. She rubbed her little cat's belly before finally getting up. With extra time on her hands, she would get ready and even fix much more. She would make little pancakes for breakfast and fix her make-up and check out her hair. When finally done brushing she would put it in a ponytail and grab her hero outfit and stuff it in a bag with other necessary items. Her shoes, her little canons and boy the bag needed to become bigger every time, how did pro-heroes do that?
Finally, she was done, wearing an easy outfit because of the weather now and hurrying to the school at about eight-thirty, but instead of going to the meeting point near the library she headed to the changing rooms and changed into her hero outfit, boots and all. She just left her arm braces, with the little canons off but dropped the bag over her shoulder and made her way to the library. With her vizor in her hair and the bag on her hips she waved to the others, oh nice to have Feng around. "Goodmorning." It was ten to eight, what a hassle to put so much clothes on.

Luka had made it a common habit to be up early, his training starting early before the sun had fully peeked over the horizon, so an 8am meeting meant that he had the time to complete his morning workout, shower and clean up, eat, and arrive with time to spare. And yet he hadn't taken into account a number of other factors that had him delayed time and time again even as he tried to ensure that he was early to the meeting. Whether it be junior students having difficulties in the dorms, another of those damn killer roombas, or his utter inability to find any of his cooking utensils, Luka had found himself very frustrated by the time he was able to leave towards the meeting location. It was like life had decided to make itself difficult for him for no good reason. He was probably being punished for bad karma in a previous life... that was the only possible explanation.
Sometimes he may have been just a little bit melodramatic.
Thus disheartened, Luka made his way to the meeting not as he usually would, but as a large blob of slime sliding across the ground. He still managed to move quite quickly, and thankfully he wasn't of the slimy variety of slime, so his motions wouldn't leave tracks across the carpets and floors of the school. Life seemed simpler to him when he reverted to this form, like the lack of a real humanoid figure somehow made all the issues in the world... less important. That didn't mean he didn't care about things or anything like that, just that he could distance himself more easily emotionally.
It was close to 7:55 by the time he finally made it, the thin lines that he used in this form to give people a 'face' to look at when he conversed with them turning up to look at the three that were already here. "Sorry I took so long, this morning was not cooperative," the slime explained, a small tendril extending from his main mass to wave slightly before returning to the orb. Hopefully with the troubles of the morning, the rest of the day would go more smoothly, but the pessimist in him told him that it probably wouldn't.
Oh well.

INTO THE FIELD TOBIAS GAVE A SUBDUED SMILE as his students began to arrive. First, Yao-san, jogging up to the instructor at a brief pace. Tobias nodded his head amicably, giving a private smile.
“It will indeed be more hands-on, Yao-san,” Tobias said with a smile, “Some fieldwork. Investigative exercises. I’ll go into greater detail when the others have arrived.”
Minutes later, Rowan had arrived, as well. Tobias offered a nod to her as well.
“Sakamoto-san, good morning,” Tobias echoed back.
While it warmed Tobias’s heart to see students take such an interest in investigative work, his amusement over seeing them in their hero costumes simmered just beneath the surface. Plain-dress with badges that identified you as a pro hero were more common, in Toby’s line of work. But he appreciated their spirit nonetheless.
Lastly, Luka made his appearance—well, in a manner of speaking. Until now, Tobias had only seen the youth in his human-passing form, so the gelatinous orb that now traversed the lot towards the library earned an arched eyebrow. When Luka’s voice explained that the morning had been “uncooperative” from the slime, Tobias finally pieced two-and-two together, and his face resumed its enviable, amicable expressionlessness.
“I’m glad that you were able to make it, Eisenberg-san,” Tobias said warmly.
He checked his watch—he could’ve sworn that there was one more student that was supposed to join them. Shindou-san, if he was not mistaken. But they were supposed to leave ten minutes ago, regardless, so he’d begin debriefing the students now.
“Thank you all for joining me this morning,” Tobias said, lowering his hand, “Although investigation is not one of the more popular facets of heroism, it is an essential and pervasive facet of it. We’re the backbone of any mission—the information we glean ensures success.”
A wry expression quirked at the corner of his mouth, “That said… it is not the most illustrious pursuit, either. It demands a certain tenacity and attention to detail.”
A clearing of the throat, and a straightening of the tie, “This morning, we’ll be investigating a recent string of robberies in the Tokyo neighborhood of Saitama.”
Tobias reached into his pocket, procuring his phone. He tapped at the screen a few times, likely to unlock it, before showing it to the youths before him. On the screen, was a grainy black-and-white video, of what appeared to be a retail environment? Security camera footage? When Tobias hit play, the scene played unraveled.
It was a still night—the shelves and display cases of the store untouched—then, offscreen, some sort of explosive impact, sending smoke and debris roiling onto the screen. In the dust, three figures emerged—a muscle-bound, massive masculine creature covered in fur and apparently feline—a creature inky and black, with two glowing white eyes—and a woman in skintight clothes, without a head. Where a head should have been, there was nothing but a strange, curling tongue of flame.
The figures could be seen navigating the shelves, flitting efficiently about the shelves and pulling things down from them before running, arms full, back off of the screen from the direction that they’d come.
“This falls under our jurisdiction when it involves individuals with quirks, as these cases may be too high-risk for our un-quirked police force,” Tobias explained mildly. He tapped the screen then swiped to one side, procuring a map of Saitama. On the image was a smattering of dots.
“The red dots are where other incidents committed by these perpetrators have taken place,” he explained.
Tap, swipe.
“I’ll send these and other documents for your reading to you. If you could look them over during the drive to Saitama, it would be much obliged.”
Toby turned his phone back to him, and made a few efficient gestures before re-pocketing his device. Moments later, the students’ phones would buzz as they received a number of files over the group text.
“Our schedule will be simple,” Tobias explained, clasping his hands behind his back, “Once we arrive in Saitama, we will first be investigating the scene where the most recent incident took place, just last night. We will then be questioning people in the area to take statements, et cetera. Any questions?”
If there were any, Tobias would address them before their departure. Once these questions were addressed, however, or if there were no questions, Tobias would lead the trio towards his car—an elegant, black sedan—to begin the drive towards Saitama.

The others arrived in due time and they were familiar faces as well. But with how limited time was and the schedule they had for the day, greetings will have to wait as Feng listened closely. The usual preamble was there for the sake of getting the point across but it helped at least understand what she was getting into. Her eyes began to shine at the idea of using her vision other than battle. She puffed up her chest in a confident manner to pump herself up as she heard the topic for today.
It wasn't something grim but something more methodical in execution. She can recall many tale told to her as a little girl of the numerous ways a robbery can go wrong for both parties. It wasn't the best thing to tell a young girl before she slept but it served as useful information now. Whatever the chase, The Informant pulled out his phone and showed security cam footage of what happened last night. The blue haired heroine's eyes were glued to the screen as she watched every part of the screen to see what exactly happened.
The video concludes and Feng’s brain was going a mile a minute to process the entire thing. The map of Saitama was soon shown and various places they have started already dotted the region. Her phone then vibrated as she saw the various points and other documents involved with the case. Making sure she actually has downloaded them to her phone, she would skim through them to see what exactly is up with the case today. Her brain was rattling with questions as she looked up from her phone as she can properly ask something.
“Is our goal to find out where they are going to strike next or apprehend them once we get enough evidence?”

She was looking around as she wasn't sure where they were waiting for before a slime person appeared and it was hard to hide the surprise on her face. Rowan was a bit of an open book about that but she waved at her classmate nonetheless, she should not complain about her own morning then. She would turn her attention back to Murakami-sensei She would listen about it and nod, with a small smile on her face. Fighting crime was never something to smile or laugh about but this was what she wanted. Here was hoping she had the eye for detail or else was a quick learner when it came to it. She wasn't sure what to say and if there was much to say but she would just look at the screen that Murakami-sensei showed and again it was obvious on her face that she found it disgusting. The question was what form of disgust it was and so on but no one would probably ask her.
She wasn't sure what to think of it, she wondered what made the explosion and as someone who had an explosive quirk if she could look into that, but they were probably more instructed when they arrived in Saitama, she was rather curious, maybe a little scared but when the people were shown in the video it was obvious not someone she expected and she would just keep a more neutral face after that and she would look at her phone when it buzzed and gave her the map and the video and other information potentially and she would again od as she did not want to interrupt anything or anyone. She wondered mostly if this was set up, were they going straight to the shelves and take the stuff or had they been looking around, something to check when she would rewatch the video in the car. Hopefully, she wouldn't get car sick.
She looked at Feng and frowned a little at the questions, they were not bad but she wondered if they would be able to get that far, but of course, if there was a series of robberies, there must be a pattern and it must be able to be found out. Wasn't their goal then for both questions the same? If they found out where they would strike next and they would be able to apprehend them, you would know where to wait for them and catch them? Hm, she turned her attention to look at Tobias to see what the answer would be.

His tardiness (for him anyway, he had still arrived before the assigned time) forgiven, Luka watched the video along with the other two, his body extending upwards enough for him to see without causing issues, but otherwise remaining in his slime form. The perpetrators were an unusual bunch, and he made a few connections regarding their aesthetic fairly swiftly, but he couldn't help but wonder more about them. When given a chance to ask questions, he took the chance to ask a few things. "Do we have any information on the criminals? Names, quirks, family, history? Is there a discernable pattern to what they steal? Are they just going high value items for quick money, or is there more to the thefts?" he inquired, musing on possible motives and actions even as he joined the others heading towards the car.
Any of the questions he asked could potentially help him figure out where they were and what they might do next, but he'd have to stretch his imagination enough that it could determine a possible course of action. Then again, this was exactly why he had picked this internship, a chance to stretch his analytical skills in a way that he really hadn't in the past. It was a little frustrating how far behind his peers he felt, but that was how the cookie crumbled. He'd started U.A. later than most of his year, and hadn't taken the opportunity to stay back a year, so he had to take the good with the bad of that.
Once they got to the car, Luka would slip himself into the front passenger seat, the sight of a small gelatinous orb buckled in likely an amusing one. He might not have had any need for a seatbelt, it was still important to follow the rules of the road and set a good example. Once settled into the seat, the small German fell into a resting state, not quite sure to say around the others considering his lack of real interaction with them in the past, and not wanting to put his foot in his mouth when he had no idea what to say. Babbling wasn't cool, not even a little, nor was talking just to fill in the silence. Instead, he'd wait to see if he was addressed in some way while he took out his phone and looked over the various documents that were sent to him. May as well catch up on the required reading.
