For Willow Meadows, someone who was a fish out of the water so to speak, she was confused about several things.
The first was Japanese culture, she was born and raised in Britain, only with scant visits to places like Germany, Poland, and France. She was someone who went for a handshake, someone who spoke to people with their given name, someone who wasn't accustomed to honorifics. She stood out like a sore thumb in that regard.
The second was UA high school as a microcosm of different races, species in some cases, and cultures all joining together in a melting pot of people with different idealisms and thoughts on being a hero. She was new to Heroing as well, but when she was told she could see places all over the world? She was instantly sold on learning to be a hero! It was just so physically demanding!
The third, and related to the second, was her quirk in particular. She had minimal idea of how it worked, she could manipulate her own gravitational direction, she could stand on walls and ceilings, so long as she held her breath. But she knew little beyond that, so she would be looking for one thing in particular in the shopping hub of Akihabara today: a clinic.
She wanted to get a down-low of who she was, what it was she could do to improve herself, what she could do about getting herself proper nutrition to help her quirk or general health: considering she was coming from the lap of luxury and living with normal folks.
She wanted to go outside of school for this medical visit, and with her debit running low on funds and not wishing to bother her mother for an advance, she sought out a free option!
Summertime was upon them, so she wore just that grey and black hexagon patterned vinyl windbreaker. A graphic t-shirt over her top and a short skirt with knee-length leggings.
Gazing up at the sign on the building, she figured this was it? Or at least, it was her best bet? She couldn't read Japanese without it being digital text, translating it with her phone, but she could go by the various cartoon characters many businesses branded themselves with! Thankfully Japan was crazy about that, brand recognition with memorable or noticeable characters!
Sighing, she broke into a smile before making her way into the building, looking to find someone that could help her out.

"No. I said put it in the back back, not the back. Like, the storeroom, not just... in the back of the room." The woman sighed, disappointed in the staff before her. She came here to do a check up on materials, resupply, and to make sure things were up to their standards. They hadn't failed, but they hadn't exactly exceeded in any capacity. The nervous man picked up the boxes. "I'm not taking it, I brought it here, you move it, I'll take over."People were people. Everyone was human. Everyone bled, cried, sang and slept. They were all the same underneath whatever layer of skin they had. Be it fur, scales, or flesh, they were all the same. Kasey sighed, the white coat over her body and the large glasses on her face. They were a mild prescription, but they did help a bit. A sigh upon her lips as she reached out to the random files still left unsorted on the desk behind the glass window before the counter. The thin barrier between her and her patients, or at least, their patients. Kasey's ponytail hung high on her head as it was pushed behind her. The horns on her head extended a bit, and curled. A mess she will deal with later, but a small change that caused enough people to forget who she was. At first glance, at least. Kasey looked up from the sheets, still trying to peace it all together, from her night with Sonya. She just needed to find something related to those kids. If any similar case existed, it would have to be someplace near that building. Something close by. There was no way it was random. "Hey, hello, do you have an appointment?" she asked. She wasn't going to waste any time. She had important things to do, probably. Well, later at least. ~ Word Count: 313 ~ |

Willow flinched at first when she was surprised by the sudden voice that spoke to her. There was no one in the front office waiting room area, but when someone finally spoke and got her attention, she looked to the voice, that was speaking Japanese to her. "Oh! I'm sorry! I--I don't speak Japanese well yet!." She stammered out in English, trying to explain before taking out a little paperback book from her drawstring rucksack.
It was a quick dictionary and thesaurus for anyone looking to translate English to Japanese and back. Ever so carefully, she picked out choice words for the woman, "I am student. I am student of UA highschool. Looking...Looking for medical check-up please?" Her grammar was bad because she was trying to avoid sounding like a tourist with perfect grammar, it just made her sound like a fool.
"Seeking the help, understanding of my quirk please, yes? I am of the much trouble of the knowing what it is doing. I control my space, no, no, I control my gravity, in favor of holstering, no, HOLDING my air, breath? Oxygen. No? Maybe. UGH!" She looked pleadingly at the woman that worked here.
She was low on money, she didn't want to run up any sort of bill at school, at least, she thought they would run up a bill to send back home, and she just wanted a medical check-up to see if she was in good enough health to be around others and see if there were any underlying medical concerns regarding her particular power.
"Called WIllow Meadows I am of the being. It is being of the pleasurable experience to having met you on the day of today, yes." She really needed to see Taka-sensei about getting some Japanese lessons. Sure, she could translate digital text on her phone, but she was piss-poor at reading it, and speaking it she was like one of those American Tourists who pronounced food wrong, like 'TAK OH' instead of 'TAH KO'.

Three languages. It was all she could speak fluently. The rest she knew a few bits and pieces, but never enough to hold a conversation. The girl in front of her seemed squirrelly, fidgety, and for why? What did she come there for? What did she plan to do? Was she in pain? It was then she caught the bits of language. Nervous stammering, the barrier of a language she barely knew. She had seen it before, with a young Korean girl. Kasey replied, in English back to her. "Yuuei has a nurse. But I suppose you're here for something you can't get otherwise." She shuffled papers behind the desk, arranging it all, getting the English forms for the girl. ". . . Right. Well, you have to fill these out, sign it, then we can proceed to data analysis to get an idea how it works, and what it can do." A small smile as she nodded and handed over the simple forms. Name, date of birth, where she lived, the generic information on file. Not to mention the release that any information gathered, will be used in future exams to assist others in the form of payment to use existing data to help them. Simple stuff. That and the sign off to hero things. The small survey of favorite heroes and known villains. Small things of awareness, to make sure people were in their right mind, but also, a small poll for the HEROES card game they also funded. "Willow you said?" provided she took the forms, and remained at the counter to fill out the simple sheets on the clipboard, Kasey would continue, unless she walked away to fill it out in private. It wasn't like anyone else was there, or that she was in a rush. "They don't talk about me there, do they?" Kasey nodded her head, shaking away the idea, "Nevermind, stupid question. Of course they don't. I wasn't even faculty."~ Word Count: 324 ~ |

"Oh thank you, I, I am really trying to learn Japanese but it's difficult." She said first, the first thing that came out was an appreciation for meeting someone else that could speak English so well. When she was handed the papers and the woman before she spoke about the school having a nurse, she looked up, biting her lower lip.
"Well, whenever I talk to them about getting anything done, they have to contact my parents, and they're busy in England, and I can't bother them all the time. Plus mum isn't fond of working with quirks at all." She said on a sour note while sitting down to flip through the documents. Her name, the date, signatures. She crossed out the legal guardian or parents' signature sections. She was a minor but she had no legal counsel here in Japan, and there was no way to contact them back home.
She sighed when she saw the form of payment could be waived by signing away her test results to be used for further progress. "Oh thank Pete." She muttered while continuing down the list. She didn't know much about heroes back home let alone here in Asia. Villains even less so. She just focused on that list for quite a while before leaving it blank. Why was someone who knew nothing about heroism going to a hero school?
"Yes, Willow Meadows, of the Meadows family of England. Mum runs a software company that's got stocks in a bunch of social media security, if not stock in every social media app...The Fields Group." She wasn't trying to brag, she was speaking as a bit of a warning, her mother was well known to be against quirks of all kinds, going so far as to publicly declare her entire company would refuse all quirk holding workers to avoid making amenities that could potentially harm other employees.
"I just arrived recently, I can't say I know much about the past at the school, I'm sorry to say." Handing back the clip board, she was ready to head back and get the tests started.

So, that was that. It was easy enough for her to switch over. One of the few languages she could speak with relative ease. But Japanese, her native tongue, still remained the hardest of the three for her to write. This much, speaking in English, was a bit comforting in that regard. The girl went on, and Kasey just nodded along, not really caring, or listing much in that regard. It seemed that more and more Yuuei students showed up at her clinics. All for the sake of secrecy? That's odd. What would be the reason of that? Was there a scandal that had yet to see the light? Kasey was curious, but in the end, she really didn't care. The talk of a mother not being comfortable around quirks did ring home to Kasey, at least as much as it could. She couldn't remember her mom, much less the feeling of her being around. They were just shadows that had titles attached to them. No voices, no colors, no faces. They were there, and she remembered what they did. They cast her, and her sister out for their quirks. It seemed as if the old world did not take well to change. In time, they would all die out. Either by age, or by force. With the amount of tourists, and exchange students, and even transfers, getting a signature back home would be impossible. If something needed to be done, it had to be done. If payment was the issue, then the simple volunteer testing would be it. Being a student of that school, did make filing it just that much easier. "I don't think Ketsujo cares." she would say. "We've been dealing with anti-quirk movements since the first quirk revealed itself." She would say with a smile. "There's a reason The Ketsujo Corporation has survived thus long." Her English, mostly on point, but with bits of accent here and there. As it was handed back, Kasey would take the form, and take a different one and place it on top, copying the girl's name, before setting it on top. "So, gravity was it?" And she would make her way to the side, closing the window divider, and opening the door to allow the girl to enter. To the larger empty storeroom was where they would go. And with it, Kasey would make yet another small discovery about quirks, and the nature of the body. ~ Word Count: 406 ~ |

Willow's reasons for secrecy were quite apparent. She had issues with her family dealing with quirks in the past. And whenever they had to get involved there was more annoyance expressed between them to the medical professionals. Willow felt guilty for trying to get them involved to only cause them stress, and so, she excused herself from the school to come here of all places. Thankfully this woman seemed to understand!
And all she had to do was sign up for a little bit of extra testing? Using her records for research? That was simple enough, she thought to herself as she beamed.
While she followed the woman back, she would nod to the question, "Yes Ma'am! It's...actually a rarity I'm told. To get a superpower like this. But, it's a bit more trouble than it's worth." She would state while shuffling along behind the woman, making their way to the storeroom where she could demonstrate her quirk.
As soon as the door closed, Willow got to stretching. Putting a hand to her hip, one arm overhead. She leaned to the left twice. And then mirrored the action to the right. Catching an arm by the elbow as she stuck one out over the shoulder, she twisted and turned. Stretching her lats, doing her deltoids. She even did a few leg stretches before twisting and turning her head about to get her neck limbered up.
And then she just held her breath before turning to the wall. Putting a leg out, her foot pressed to it. Following that, her foot on the floor lifted up and she walked up along the wall, as if it were the very same floor she was just on. Walking her way up a few feet just to be safe, she started to quake a little. Gasping for air as her face turned red!
Falling to the floor with a thud, she rocked back and forth. "I can't...I can't hold my breath very long!" She started to cough and wheeze, pounding on her chest to catch her breath.

Superpower? That certainly was one way to put it. They were more than humans. They were greater evolved beings. Now the next level of evolution was to discover which were better, stronger. Not all were geared for battle, for combat, but some would greatly ease their lives. Window cleaners who could create soap, or a welder who could shape metal without heat, they would all find their place. It was no longer a list of experiences and former jobs, but a new skill unique to them that could get them an edge. And those built for war, would either make with it, or learn to make themselves more useful around the house. "Trouble?" she questioned, curious, she would let the girl's actions speak for itself. She was one who had remained calm, even when her subjects had resorted to covering her in flame, hot oil, drowning her in water or shooting her with electricity. She was used to it, and she endured it. The door would shut to give the girl the privacy she needed. She would stretch, a note Kasey kept in mind to whatever might happen. was it something she could pull a muscle with? She would nervously begin to shuffle her feet. She would lean to one side and balance on a single leg, doing sort of the same, but only on her legs. She would watch the girl step upon the wall. A strange thing. Kasey would take a few steps forward to closely observe. She would lift the next foot to begin to suspend herself. An interesting case indeed. The question was if she could do the same to others, now that would be a feat. Kasey scribbled some notes down, as she pondered her own abilities. Her nails would grow extended into claws, only to watch the girl now quiver under her own powers. She was a good distance off the ground, and an injury was not one she wanted to have to mend. She took a large step towards her, before her fingers pointed with her right would extend downward like a long ramp under the girl. The material would be soft, enough to break her fall, and allow her to decent slowly as safely as Kasey could do without using her own body. She would gasp, and as she fell, she would fall onto the bone ramp that would be as soft as foam. "Related to her breath." she would muse to herself in Japanese. She nodded with the findings. Perhaps it was a way to pull in air pressure, a sort of vacuum to defy gravity. It was a good theory, and perhaps a sound one. Perhaps it would make sense if she was barefoot, but given her shoes it seemed to be more extended than that. Perhaps it was an aura around her, a small sort of bubble. To breathe was to affect her personal gravity, or at least air pressure around her. It certainly was rather interesting. Very, interesting. ~ Word Count: 500 ~ |

Coughing and huffing, she had ragged breath already just from that little stint of trying to keep herself on the wall. She had some sort of respiratory concern that was never addressed it seemed. In her chest, it felt like there was a knot being tied up right where her lungs met and constricted it tight to the point that it was hard to take air in, and it hurt to push air out from the coughing of shortness of breath. Thankful that she was kept from hitting the floor hard and winding herself further, she stood up and dusted herself off.
"Tha-thank you, Ma'am!" She stated while giving a slight bow, holding a hand in front of her mouth as she sputtered out a few more coughs. "Was that, you know, was that everything you needed? Do I need a physical? Should I do another demonstration where I fall slowly?" She wheezed out.
Bending at the knees a bit, she went into a stout little squat, hands resting on the lower portion of her thighs while her fingers splayed out to keep a grip on herself. SHe was earnest enough to keep trying despite whatever adversity was plaguing her ability to breath and use her power alone, but she was still interested in trying to see where they could take this.

She thought about the limited supply she had on had given the location. They had some strange experimental things there, given the local quirks in the area. She closed her eyes for a moment, cataloging all of the items she saw on her way in, and the few things on hand. Giving the girl an air tank would prove useless, as it was related to her held breath. Did she have to exhale it all, or inhale it all? Could she slowly exhale her held breath or did it have to remain stagnant? She wondered about the relation of the quirk to her lungs and the curious trigger. Or it could have been a unique organ for that matter. With the bow, Kasey would do the same. The girl coughed a bit, and with it, Kasey begun her quick diagnosis. "If willing, I'd like to do some trials." She looked around the room, wondering if her solution would be fast. With a few seconds of observation, she found the answer being outside of the room. "I'd like to test some medication, if you're willing." She would take the clipboard and pin it on the wall, her nail extending to wedge itself into a crack to hold it as Kasey left the room. She put a hand up, as if to tell the girl to stay as she ran out. She would quickly make her way into the storerooms, and without much difficulty she would grab a few things and make her way back, a good four options in her hand. She would enter the room with a smile. "I don't need a physical to understand the basis of your quirk, but if you want to do it anyways, we can. Though, I would recommend a physician. That's not really my field of expertise." Kasey would hold the small boxes between her fingers as she extended them to the young girl, taking a few steps closer. "I shouldn't need to explain that these are inhalers. I assume you know how they work?" She would say, the various designs and blends within, all to treat various repository problems. "I'd like you to take them. If you can, use only one for the week, record your experience, or stop by and we'll make more formal notations. They have enough to last you a month, but use them as you see fit. Afterwards, we'll know what may help you, if this system at all." She looked over, a quick bit of math in her head. It was helpful knowing how to count now. "Come by in a month. I'm normally at Tokyo General. If at any time you're having a bad reaction to one of them, just toss them out. It's not rare someone is allergic to one of these. Nothing more than a minor rash around the neck. So I would take it easy until you know for sure. And even if you're allergic, taking a dozen puffs won't kill you, at most mild irritation. So they're totally safe." She would nod and bow. All of her explanations in English for the girl's benefit. But, her final words would revert back into Japanese. "If you would though, on your way out please stop at consultation for formalities on how to properly use each of them. That, and so we can note it down for our records, beyond our notes." Kasey would bow again, greatly interested in her quirk. They could easily continue testing if she wanted, but that was up to her. For now, Kasey saw the display enough to get a simple understanding on how it all worked. ~ Word Count: 607 ~ |

She was so busy clearing her throat and trying to catch her breath that she wasn't even considering leaving the room as the doctor walked out. She was happy to stay and do some tests. For the wannabe hero, she was earnest enough that she would remain alone in a room for a few moments.
When Kasey returned, Willow gave a beaming smile, though a curious look on her face as she was presented with some inhalers of all things. "Wait, I...I have asthma? I didn't know." She didn't know she had a breathing problem all this time? Let alone one that could impede the use of her quirk?
"Sorry I, I'm happy to do whatever doctor, I'm gonna follow your advice on this and all that and...I just," she trailed off for a moment, looking at the collection of inhalers in her hands, and then up at the woman again.
Allergies? Reactions? issues with inflammation? Her eyes had become little spirals, animated dizziness splayed on her visage, something that clearly showed just how overwhelmed she was by all of this suddenly.
"C-can we maybe test to see if I do have asthma? is there anything I can do to get rid of it? Or anything to help it beyond emergency inhalers? Is it asthma? It's not like..bronchitis is it?!" SHe spoke with a skittish panic in her voice.

All of the little excitements. Kasey understood them well enough. She had seen it before. Eager faces to learn, and open minds to absorb information. Even if half of it was made up, it was stuff logged and kept in their minds to refer to later. Anything they could use to get an edge was beneficial to them. It was in their interest to constantly cross reference their information, to rely on it later, and share it with others. Trading those small bits with others to gain more. That was the business of the game. And the more the students learned, the more Kasey learned. In the end, it was all something that increased her understanding of quirks as a whole. She had gotten a vast grasp on it all. With all of the people eager to showcase at the promise of aid, which they did receive, it was rather easy to collect data. In the event their paths crossed again, she would have more and more information on them, while very little remained on herself. That was how villains worked. But she never wanted to face students, nor heroes. The real targets, were the ones that came from the same ilk. Criminals."It's not asthma, but that's how we're going to treat it." She would say. There wasn't much to explore on it. If it was related to her breath, perhaps holding more in, or opening up the passageways would aid her. With the panic from the girl, she reached out to place her hand on her shoulder. "You're going to be fine." Kasey would say to her a smile of comfort on her face, "Quirks are complicated things. We don't have Make-Quirk-Stronger medication, we have to treat it like a pre-existing illness. Seeing as it's based around you holding your breath, I think this is your best bet to at least help you train for a bit. Now, it's not actually, but think of it like... steriods." she pointed at one of the boxes. "Actually that one actually has steriods. Take that one at night, and drink water after. Anyways, they're just something to lean on. If they don't work, then the next step is something maybe like oxygen pills or something. This is just the easiest solution, to y'kno, making a brand new medication just for your from scratch. . . plus this is all tested so none of it can actually like, kill you."~ Word Count: 406 ~ |
