Mia hadn’t been too happy that during her suspension she’d also had to put her intern and apprenticeship plans on hold. She had some promising candidates this year too. Sure, she’d still been a little sad about Jasmine not being around but that had been fixed right up with her return, and kids like Feng and Jack were definitely eager in their own right. Speaking of the latter, Mia was making up for the fact she hadn’t been able to take the kids out on internships with him today. For now they were just doing standard patrol routes. While Mia was typically someone who could leap across rooftops she was trying to take a slower approach. Walking in the streets among the people, wanting to help alleviate the impression her ‘rage mode’ may have created that Red horn flying through the air could be a potentially horrific sign… no. if she just walked about like this, it’d help instead the idea that she wasn’t always barrelling about through the sky like a cannonball of range hurtling herself from rooftop to rooftop.
She glanced up to the sky where Jack was likely flying overhead. Just cause she had to tone things down didn’t mean she had to subject him to the same fate, smirking idly as she rested her thumbs into the hem of her hero costume’s pants, just admiring seeing one of the UA kids literally able to spread their wings. They’d agreed earlier that he could be her eyes in the sky while they just completed a normal patrol route. Her eyes casually wandered across the people at street level but… ever since her probation lifted her patrol routes had been in the quieter parts of the city, so it wasn’t like they were gonna run into much. Her eyes wandered up along one of the local McRonalds chains, a hand rising to her ear piece.
“Hey Jack buddy you getting hungry up there? I think we earned a break if you wanna grab a snack.” She made sure to wave, as if she wasn’t easy enough to pick out in the crowd anyway, to make it easier for Jack to spot her when her voice flowed into his ear over the standard issue ear-pieces for heroes. She threw a clear enough ‘thumb’ in the direction of the mcdonalds, her other hand still resting on her ear piece. “Just throw me your order and I can meet you up on the rooftops.”

If one were to ask Jack what he would have thought interning with Red Horn would be like, he would have immediately said extremely difficult and rewarding. Going on a high-stake mission against a villain, or intense Quirk training, or really anything in between, based on all the other times he's sparred and trained with her. He was prepared to face hell of all sorts, for he knew that he had to get stronger, for his sake, for his friends' sake...for Meara's sake. They're what drove him to new heights, and now was no different.
What he didn't expect was to have an extremely relaxing time at first, though.
Ms. Kearney decided that it would be a good idea to start out with a simple patrol. The small dragon boy practically leapt at the opportunity to be her eyes in the sky, because that meant the one thing he loved to do, but never really got to do much at all: flying! Jack had yearned for an opportunity to fly freely for once, and here it was, presented to him by his favorite hero! Jack had to face many a hard time as of late...but it was the small things like this that made it worth it to him.
As such, Jack quickly took to the skies, staying a fair bit above the ground, but still where Ms. Kearney could see him. He spread his wings to their full length; practically quadruple his total height normally. He almost looked kind of like a huge bat, with his dark hero suit and large leathery wings. He breathed in the fresh air, feeling the wind all around him. He felt free for once, and it definitely showed on his face how relaxing it was. It made him excited for when he would do this more on a daily basis, once he had a licence. Slowly but surely, he thought. Slowly but surely.
After a while, Jack would suddenly hear Ms. Kearney ask him if he was hungry, gesturing to the McRonald's that was close by. Rather than give a simple yes or no, he instead replied by suddenly flying around in quick, excited circles, silently chanting under his breath "McRonalds, McRonalds, McRonalds!" like an excited little kid. He'd never really got offered something like this before by someone he looked up to, parent or otherwise, so he did get rather excited. Always the little things, as they say.
With that, Jack would give Ms. Kearney his order, consisting of only a couple orders of burgers, large fries, and drinks. He may be small, but he's proven time and again that he very much had a big appetite. That, and of course he fully intended on paying her back. He was just happy to have this moment. With that, quite literally glowing with happiness, Jack flew to the roof of the McRonald's, and sat and waited for his teacher to arrive.
Once she did arrive, he greeted her with a wide, sharp-toothed smile. "Thank you, Ms. Kearney!" he chirped, offering her the money back in exchange for the food. After that little exchange, Jack would happily begin to munch on his food, his tail swaying happily, and lightly swinging his legs back and forth as he sat on the edge of the roof. "It's pretty quiet today, surprisingly. Is it usually like this when you patrol? It's relaxing!" he said, looking honestly the happiest he's had in a little bit.

Watching a giant dragon do circles in the sky chanting 'mcronalds' definitely brought a smile to Mia, nearly snorting out the contents of her nose from how hard that laugh caught her off guard, sighing with a bright tone as she rubbed her face against her hand and started crossing the road towards Mcronalds. She'd only been able to hear him cause of the standard issue earpieces they had for the internship but jesus... she had to imagine how confused people would be to see a fucking dragon boy of all things just chanting mcronalds like some overly cheerful sky ritual.
Couple burgers, large fries and a drink. Mia herself got 2 drinks, a smaller bottle of water and a larger cup of cola. A few different burgers to make the 'american special' known by the secret menu name of 'a mc-gang bang', and some orders of fries herself of course. She'd come on back out with a couple paper bags. She was briefly offered a tray buuuut... she didn't trust herself to be able to carry that on a jump to the roof without everything flying everywhere.
A hard kick off the pavement and she was up on the roof, staggered on her landing a little since she did still have to balance the drinks, but thanks to their tight lids the most she got was a fleck of cola spilling out from the straw and hitting her bicep, something she could wipe off in a few seconds without worry. "Sorry it's been quiet today kid. They've just been telling me I gotta show you kid more of what it's like doing hero work. It really can be just walkin' around for a day if things are quiet. Hard to complain about a lack of crime though.~" She'd offer him the smaller bag of food before taking a seat on a bit of venting fixture next to him, the thin metal creaking under her weight but not enough to give or anything. She'd start with the fries, taking full handfulls at a time as she continued to talk, sometimes muffled by the mouth full of fries.
"Honestly though it's usually busier than this but er... since the whole 'ragers' incident they're putting me on the back lines a bit. Gotta make sure the public feel safe having me around so they're putting me in the quieter neighborhoods. Usually I patrol the red light district which... well I'm sure you can imagine it ain't hard to find crime there of all places ay?" She swallowed back another handful before resting back on her hands. "Still... hard to complain about the situation I'm in, given everything that happened."

Jack couldn't help but do a little wiggle-dance as Ms. Kearney brought up their food, unknowingly actually making an odd sound that was like a mix between a bird chirping and his usual purrs. He swore, he never knew why he really made those noises. Either it was just something that was really unique to him as a result of his Quirk and his instincts, or he was just a weird person that picked up the habit from animals in the forest. Either way, it looked to be a habit that wasn't going away any time soon.
He raised an eyebrow slightly at his teacher as she apologized for the overall lack of action, particularly blaming the 'Rager' incident and how that all went down. The small dragon boy shook his head a bit, waving away the apology dismissively. "It's hardly your fault, Ms. Kearney! Sometimes Quirks can do that to a person, especially if you were influenced like you were. I don't blame you for what happened - I get that people might be wary, but they shouldn't either," he said flatly, taking a big sip of soda and letting out a light burp. "'Scuse me."
She then brought up how it wasn't really something to complain about overall, all things considered. Jack nodded in agreement, taking a deep breath of fresh air. "Aye...it's partially stuff like this that I wanted to become a hero for. A sense of freedom, calm in the down times...not having to worry about people completely abusing you at all hours of the day-" he started, before a well-timed apple suddenly clonked him upside the head, splattering against his face.
Below them, a group of kids would quickly begin to run away from the scene, throwing out a slur or two behind them. "...At least, not usually," he finished, sighing a little bit in annoyance, but letting the matter go. He knew that it was going to happen no matter what, so he didn't really let stuff like that get to him as much anymore. He's dealt with a lot worse by this point, anyways.
Nonetheless, Jack would wipe the bits off fruit off of his face, and quickly finish up his food. He would then hop up, and do a few stretches to get himself ready to take flight again. "'Sides, at the end of the day, the reward is more showing that we're all equal at the end of the day, yeah? More than worth it to me in that regard," he said finally, grinning down at his teacher like he didn't have a care in the world. Of course, he had a lot of things weighing down on him, but he was by no means about to let it show if he could avoid it. Better to be the happy-go-lucky dragon boy that everyone knows him for than being a Debby Downer about everything. It was easier, being like that. If he could make other people happy, then he was more than happy! At least, that was the hope...

Mia sat to enjoy her food, but it seemed some little brats weren't gonna let Jack do the same. Before she had time to react she just caught the splat hitting his face before her red gaze followed it to it's source. Her gaze narrowed as she watched them run away, pulling her food tray up off her lap and placing it to one side, dusting off her hero-pants and rising to a full stand as she watched them running down the street, a few glances back to see if the hero was even bothering to chase them before starting to slow down as she just seemed to be watching.
"Yeah. Yeah. Equal. All that jaz." She gave Jack's hair a light ruffle as she stepped around his back, reaching down to the gravelly surface of the rooftop they were sitting on and grabbing a decent little pebble, tossing it up in the air, feeling it's weight in her hand and how it shifted through the air. 2 more tosses and she gave herself a fair nod, holding it between both her hands. Best foot forward, throwing arm back, and with a sound of it blasting through a cushion of air, the stone was thrown. It soared just over the head of one of the kids, slamming into the pavement ahead of them, shattering the paving slab and probably leaving those kids with some stains their mothers would have to clean tonight. They staggered, clearly terrifed, looking back to RedHorn before darting off into an even faster run. Mia scoffing as she could tell the kid with light blue pants clearly wet himself.
"Sorry... Don't like them getting away with that shit. Y'okay?" She'd grab one of the napkins that came with their food and offer it across as she sat back down, giving Jack a moment to clean up. "I know we gotta be equal, take the high ground... but kids also gotta learn not to poke the bear. Sometimes that bear won't always be a hero." She'd probably get an earful if anyone in the PSC ever heard about what she just did, but it was quick enough no one woulda had a camera, and enough people made lies about her to complain that something like this might just be considered another lie.
"By the by... you okay? Not cause of the apple thing just.. ain't seen that usual spunk in your step as much lately. Or... well I have but it seems a little... forced. Everythin' been okay?"

Jack was more than willing to honestly let the matter of the apple throwing go. He wasn't really one to go after revenge for just about anything...especially given more recent events. Despite everything, the dragon boy was still more passive than anything else, even if he was still holding onto a lot of pain. He persevered nonetheless, mostly just trying to let the past heal itself with time. Besides, they were kids. There wasn't really much point in trying to go after them, in his opinion. They'll learn in their own time, or they'll crash and burn. That's how he was taught, at least.
However, Ms. Kearney apparently had a different approach to the matter. He cocked his head a little bit in confusion as she would get up after his little 'equality' speech, ruffling his hair as she did so. Jack purred lightly, as he usually liked stuff like that to begin with, but it was quickly halted as he could quickly put 2-and-2 together as to what she planned to do. "M-Ms....Mia, it's fine, really. You don't need to-" he started, hoping to dissuade her from doing what he thought she was going to do. He questioned who was about to get in more trouble for this - him for not stopping her, or her for doing the deed.
Before he could finish, Mia went through with her plans, throwing a rather large pebble in the general direction of the kids that were still running away. The rock crashed into the pavement right next to them, scaring the living daylights out of the children. Despite his usual stance on NOT doing stuff like that, Jack couldn't help but let out a bit of a snort as he could even see one of them wet his pants even from here. He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head as Mia would apologize for that. "Yeah, yeah...I'm alright. I've...faced a lot worse than a dang apple, y'know?" he replied - both a bit of a retort for her actions, but just a general statement altogether. He took the napkin from her with a thankful nod and quickly got the rest of the juice and apple bits off of his face. "Bleh, hate how sticky fruit can get sometimes..."
He grumbled a bit to himself before Mia actually asked if he was alright. He raised an eyebrow at her for a second, before she began to clarify. The other eyebrow quickly raised as it was apparent that his teacher had noticed his odd demeanor as of late. He thought he could hide it well enough...but apparently, he needed to do a better job of hiding it. For a split second, the total distress that Jack was in actually showed itself in his eyes, like he had a bit of a haunted look about him. Truth be told...he was still scarred deeply about the last few months. The Fuchu incident, the zombie incident, Meara's kidnapping...
His own kidnapping. It all got to the boy deeply. He didn't even know if the DC back at U.A. knew anything about his own taking, but nothing had been said up until this point. Nor did he really WANT to say anything. He didn't want to be a burden on anyone else - the only person that he had told up to this point was Meara herself because she deserved to know more than anyone else. He pursed his lips, staring off to the distance for a moment to hide the look on his face. "I...I'm fine," he said flatly, wanting to move on from the subject quickly.
"Y'know, uh...me and Angie found out more about my Quirk the other day. Apparently, the energy I produce is similar to atomic energy. The radiation from it disappears as soon as any blast is fired, though, so I'm not causing anyone to get cancer or anything...Still opens up more questions than answers, though. All of that power, packed into a small frame like myself..." he said, hoping that his light rambling would be enough to throw Mia off for a moment. Hopefully, she wouldn't prod too much...but knowing his luck, that might not be the case.

Despite the quiet protests Mia would have gone through with her pebble toss without hesitation. She trusted her aim and the benefit of being the biggest kid in the yard was you didn’t have to put up with the shit of a bully. Young, small, big, old, didn’t matter. A little shit who did something like that apple toss and expected to get away with making someone else’s life miserable, for whatever pathetic reason? Bully. She wasn’t gonna make it easy for them and if she got some dumb tabloid article about this? Fair enough sacrifice. She wasn’t the kind to let that shit slide with anyone who was old enough to tie their own shoe laces.
“Sorry kid. Just how I handle things. Didn’t mean to bother ya.” She came back in to sit down and started making her way through her food, glancing across to Jack as he said he’d gotten a lot worse than an apple. A brief scowl on her features wondering what kind of dipshit would go for anything to begin with, let alone something worse whatever that may be… though she knew a few of the types. “Yeah well I think I scared people enough that they stopped trying to toss rings onto my horn. Sometimes you just gotta put your foot down… kids, heck adults can be baiting you for the angry, roaring reaction… but get close enough to serious and most of them will back the fuck down.” That was her view on things at least. Get close enough to showing someone you can break their nose, and you didn’t even have to do it. They’d tend to get the message. “See I get the whole equality argument… but at the end of the day they’re still gonna treat us like we aren’t equal, and just toleratin’ that ain’t always gonna fix it… sometimes you gotta put your foot down and say ‘no more’…” She shrugged casually, nudging his shoulder with a fist. “Just my take on it though, you do you.~”
She didn’t have much she could do to help with the stickiness but- “I’ll ask ‘em for some wet wipes before we leave. Sound good?”
Mia leaned back on her hand as Jack seemed to consider his words, taking an idle bite of her foot, chewing carefully so she could swallow at a moment’s notice if need be. As he said he was fine however, she heavily resisted the urge to say ‘bullshit’, continuing to chew away to help resist the urge there.
“Yeesh… think you’re the first UA kid I’ve met who DOSNT wanna talk about their problems non stop.” She chuckled a little, unable to resist the jab at some other students she’d encountered. “Well… except Jaz, but she’s a special case.” Fuck ‘not showing favorites’ it wasn’t like everybody didn’t already know she loved that kid afterall. Anyway- “Cool thing on your quirk man but… come on. If you’re gonna try and avoid a topic at least make it a little less obvious that’s what you’re doing…”
She reached over and pat the kids shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. “Look I ain’t the best person to talk to. I’ll admit that. I’m blunt, I’m harsh, and I have a very… ‘get over it’ mentality to problems half the time but… if you wanna get something off your chest, I’m here, and ya should know I won’t judge either. Your problems are problems for a reason, end of story… on the other hand if you don’t wanna tell me, that’s fine too…” She turned her reassuring shoulder tap to a light, even for a normal person, jab to his shoulder. “But, don’t go tellin’ me your fine when you’re not. You lie to yourself like that and that shit eats you up, trust me… but if you can tell me your not fine, and you just wanna ignore your problems and get on with the day… I’ll believe you. How you wanna handle your shit is your business afterall just... don’t lie to me. Especially not so blatantly, aye?”

自由自在 to be free; completely unrestrained. Jack raised his eyebrow slightly when Mia tried to apologize for at the least making him uncomfortable, and then tried to give him advice when it came to putting his foot down, using how she stopped people from throwing rings at her horn as an example. The dragon boy pursed his lips and scratched the back of his head, frowning lightly. "It was...kinda hard to do that, growing up. The entire city would send death threats and throw rocks and stuff at me constantly. Why I lived 'semi-feral' my whole life, as ridiculous as it sounds for a rich kid," he explained, lamenting the rather weird circumstances of his childhood.
Whatever her reply was to that, Jack would likely just move on with the conversation, not wanting to make much of his problems. The dragon boy could almost feel the look on Mia's face as he would tell her that he was alright. He really needed to get better at hiding his feelings, he swore...bad enough his Quirk made them stronger, he didn't want other people getting dragged into his problems too.
He did, however, look back and raised his eyebrow at her again as she commented on him being one of the few students that didn't like to talk about his problems all the time, Jaz excluded. That part made a devilish smirk form on Jack's face. "Aw, and here I thought that I was one of your favorites. You should have seen me when I first joined U.A., really. I was a mess and a half back then," he said jokingly, knowing well enough the relationship between Mia and Jaz, especially after witnessing it first-hand at her party not long ago. He wasn't jealous by any means - he just thought it would be funny to poke fun a bit, considering that Mia was still his favorite hero, even after knowing her for a fair amount of time now with all the training they do.
Nonetheless, Mia would then lightly call him on his bullshit, even going as far as to try reassuring him with the hand on the shoulder. Jack actually looked a little surprised by his teacher's sudden warmness on the matter, even if she dismissed it not long after. The dragon boy's shoulders slumped, and he looked unsure of himself. He hadn't told anyone except Meara about what had happened yet...so he was hesitant to tell really anyone, especially a teacher. He didn't know if he would get in trouble, even though the circumstances of his kidnapping were under the pretense of meeting up near U.A. anyways.
Then again...Mia wasn't really like the other teachers. Maybe she would at least not get him in trouble for the matter? Jack couldn't help but feel himself shake a little bit, looking like he was on the verge of shattering like glass. All the pain, all the nightmares...he really needed help. He couldn't just let this sit...! "If...If I say, promise me I won't get in trouble...? I-it wasn't really my fault, but..." he started, his bottom lip quivering at the thoughts of all he was about to say. Not because he was about to reveal them, but rather all the images of all that had happened. Pinocchio kidnapping him, the room of Ishtar followers, the glare of Isthar herself...
He took a shaky breath, before finally biting the bullet. "...As I said before, a lot of power inside of such a small frame...and yet..." he started, starting to tear up a bit as he shook. "Not enough to save those who were killed in the Fuchu incident...not enough to save Meara from when she was kidnapped..." He would look Mia dead in the eyes for a moment, tears falling down his cheeks as he let out another deep, shaky breath. "Not enough to save myself from...from the same fate..." he said quietly, quickly fading into sobs as he covered his face, to muffle his crying, and to hide his shame from his hero.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...!" he cried, seemingly unable to control himself. He didn't know how Mia would react to the sudden bombshell, but he knew that he couldn't hide it anymore. The poor boy was shaken up from the last few months alone, but this was just the icing on the cake. He could only really hope that Mia wouldn't judge him too harshly for making such a stupid mistake... notes words tag someone

Mia… couldn’t help it. She burst out chuckling when Jack started to mention his past. Having rocks thrown at him, living a semi feral life. She put a hand over her mouth, very clearly trying to stop herself but finding it immensely difficult as she chuckled into her palm but… god she’d seen this so much. “Ah fuck kid I… really I shouldn’t laugh, I am GENUINELY sorry but… god damn. Do you need ‘tragic backstory’ on your application to that school or something? Most of you seem to have some shit or other. What happened to the ‘alien kid lived a nice life on a farm and became a super hero’? Why y’all gotta be abused…” She let out the few last chuckles and wiped at her eyes. “I’m…just damn I get so many tragic histories off you kids out of the blue… I know mutants have it tough but the FUCK was your neighbourhood if people were lobbing shit at you? Aren’t you fucking rich or something? Where the hell did you live that shit like that happened? I mean I was poor as fuck as a kid! Most I got was a shove once in a while from a kid wanting to act like he’s bigger than me! Who the hell was throwing shit!?”
There was still a light chuckle in her voice, she knew she shouldn’t laugh, it wasn’t his fault what people around him did but… she was so desensitized to these tragic histories of the students. They were so common she’d become convinced none of these kids ever went through psych evals to get into that school. Not that she imagined she’d ever pass one but, the point stood.
“Seriously, sorry just… yeah.” She hoped he understood, she knew it was rude but… she’d been through the dance so much. It tickled her ribs even if she didn’t want it to. “I am sorry that happened to you just… you UA kids all seem to go through a lot and, like I said, I’m almost wondering if all you UA kids are gonna be better heroes cause you came with the deluxe trauma package. My eyes though, then or now… you ain’t ever gotta take that shit. Whoever convinced you you did needs a solid punch. From me to boot.” At the very least Jack didn’t seem eager to go on about a shitty past like some she’d met, moving right along as best he could.
Mia gave at least a more amicable chuckle at his quip about being one of her favorites. “You are one of my favorites kid. Ya got spunk, people seem to shit on you for no reason, your quirk is fucking badass and you can roar louder than me. What’s not to like? Plus if you ever piss me off I become Mia the dragon slayer, and that’s pretty badass too.~” She gave him a nudge to show she was just messing with him, keeping a warm smile up to encourage him to stay talking with her. He was a good kid and as much as the tragic backstory made her chuckle, it was just because of how many kids had a rough life at UA. It was a dark comedy aspect of her humor and she wasn’t proud of it. Really she just didn’t know why life kept shitting on such good kids… and Angel. “I’m sure you walked into UA better than I walked out of high school whatever you were like.~”
As Jack was about to break down, asking for her assurance he wouldn’t get in trouble, she simply gave a firm nod. “Don’t think think about it kid. I ain’t gonna sell you down the river.” And… the floodgates opened. Kid had been holding some weight on his shoulders, questioning his capability due to some shit he’d been seeing in the field and shit happening to… his girlfriend, if she kept up right and…
The same shit happening to him…
She hissed through her teeth… fuckin’ Ishtar…
Without much thought she looked off silently into the distance for a moment, not too sure what to say or do… ultimately she hooked a gentle arm around him and pulled him over to lean his weight into her. They may not have known eachother too well, not personally at least but.. hugs always help right.
“That’s… some shit kid. I could give ya the speech. Ya can’t save everyone, all that crap but… sometimes the world is just gonna shit on ya for a while. Ishtar’s gonna be a mad bitch and wanna try and kidnap everyone with a good heart. Someone’s gonna wanna break out of prison and cause a riot rather than hide and take the opportunity they got… some people just wanna watch the world burn…” She sighed. “I could give ya the line ‘its our job to punch those fuckers back into the holes they climb out of’ but… I can also, from RedHorn of all people… tell ya it’s okay to feel like shit sometimes cause of it all… cause let’s face it the world can be a little shit, eh?”

自由自在 to be free; completely unrestrained. Jack couldn't help but smirk back a little bit in response to Mia's sudden laughter. He knew it was all a little weird, and even moreso, she had a point when she said that a lot of kids at U.A. had such tragic childhoods. Of course, it technically was all just a consequence of the times that they lived in. He could at least share in the sentiment that he hoped that it would just end up making better heroes at the end of the day, hopefully driven like Jack was to never let something like that happen again. Nonetheless, Jack would wave aside her apologies, knowing that she was probably just desensitized to the matter.
However, Jack's grin grew a bit wider as Mia did actually confirm that he was one of her favorites. Apparently he had spunk to her. That part alone was enough to make the dragon boy snort a little bit, trying to contain his laughter. At least someone that he looked up to thought as highly as she did about him. It lessened the blow of a lot that had happened...though it was still obviously scarring on their own.
Which, of course, would finally lead into Jack revealing what had happened. The mere thoughts of everything that had happened - all the blood and death, the villain that kidnapped him contorting into his own visage, the meeting with Ishtar... He let out all that he could really muster in that moment, crying into his hands, trying not to show his shame in the matter to Mia. He was supposed to be strong, yet here he was, blubbering like a baby...a scarred baby, but still. So much for having spunk, he supposed...
However, Mia did something that he really didn't expect her to. As he cried, he would slowly feel the heroine's large arm gently wrap around him, and pulling him in for a hug. Jack flinched a little bit, but quickly relented, wrapping his arms around her and just letting it out for a moment. At least she didn't give him the same old speech that everyone else did: "Power can't save everyone, blah blah blah". He'd even heard it from his own classmate in Desmoshi - frankly, Jack was starting to think the opposite. If he had been stronger, NONE of this would have happened. If he had been faster... It all just meant to him that he needed more power...
Nonetheless, Mia just went on to console him lightly, telling him that it was okay to feel like he did sometimes, because sometimes, well...the world could be shitty. People like them probably knew that far too well as it is. Jack sniffled, wiping his eyes with his tail, and took a deep breath. "Y-yeah...you're not wrong there..." he said after a moment, letting go of Mia and looking up at the sky. "Even so...despite everything, even the nightmares and all that bullshit that those villains spout the majority of the time...I still want to keep moving. I can only get stronger, even if...even if I'm broken, right? At the end of the day...I do need to. Only real way I can move on from all of this, I think..."
With that, Jack would end up going silent for a moment, seemingly reflecting on everything still. He would look down at the streets, mostly seeing if anyone else was going to try something. He could see a few people staring - it may be a good and bad thing, he supposed, if they saw people like him and Mia showing the emotions that they did. It just showed they were still human, after all...even if they didn't understand. Then again, did they ever? notes words tag someone

Mia gave Jack's arm a little squeeze from how she had her own wrapped around the back of his shoulders. She didn't know if her message, the intended meaning of what she was saying, was actually getting through to him but... well at the very least he seemed to be taking something positive from it. She was never good at knowing what to say in matters like this so she just let him process his own thoughts and the words she'd added for a moment, taking a long slow breath as she just let the rooftop breeze flow over them. As much as she could pretend otherwise being a quirker wasn't exactly an 'easy' lifestyle. Life had been both set with cheat codes and also set to hard mode from the day people like them were born, and deciding to be a hero? That was like setting life to even harder settings, like choosing one of those difficulty rings in dark souls 2 or something. It could make life more fun, more engaging... but it definitely didn't make things any easier. Putting a target on your back like that never did.
Still, even if he needed to let things out, Jack didn't seem like the kid to give up, the type to regret the decision he'd made... sometimes you just needed to let the bad shit sit with ya, experience it, feel it... and then come out stronger. She didn't have the smarts to put that into words out loud, not the kind of words that would actually help him she felt so... perhaps a little nervous, worried she could make things worse, she stayed somewhat silent on the matter, just giving him another supportive squeeze, hoping to just generally show hr appreciation for the efforts he was making.
As if to quell the silence, a light buzz came from her pocket. While she wasn't being treated so well by the police, sometimes purposely kept out of their radio chatter, she had a good little network of her own to work with. Her phone pulled out, a heavy duty case on it and what seemed to be a patch of velcro on the back of it, she swiped across to tweeter, a moderated set of tweets sent to her highlighting some criminal activity not far from where she was. It wasn't bound to be official but multiple sources saying the same thing? It was something worth checking on. She gave Jack a light jostle in her grasp. "Hey, not to spoil your moment but..." She showed the phone with the address to a potential crime in progress. "Fancy a distraction kid?"
