For some it was supposed to be an ordinary day, some people would have gone to work, enjoy the simplicity that the mundane everyday life gave them, in the end, most people were satisfied with the ordinary, the unchanging way of their life, and for others it were days full of growth and opportunity. On this particular day, the young hero in training had been scheduled for an appointment with a doctor, similar to an internship it was an opportunity where Melody would be able to learn skills and experience things that were more difficult to obtain at the hero academy.
A young man dressed in a business suit had been her escort for the trip to Tokyo's hospital. The man had been talking with her in quite an enthusiastic and excitable tone. "So you want to learn more medical-aligned skills, isn't that right Melody-san?" He paused for a bit, looking at her with a look of admiration. "I'm glad to hear that! To be honest, there is an astonishing absence in heroes who possess medical-inclined abilities, and truth to be told, aside from your school nurse there are few professionals who are able to act in the field."
He nodded his head solemnly as he turned his attention back to the traffic ahead of them. "Your instructor for the lecture is actually a former classmate of yours. She used to be enrolled into the hero program but the Public Safety Commission scouted her last year. Some girl from Germany, I believe Elise is her name? She became quite known in the medical world after that surgery she did, but personally I'm more a fan of her music."
He laughed softly when all of a sudden his phone went off, and after excusing himself for a moment seemed to be engaged in a conversation of some serious importance, upon which as he finished receiving instructions he closed the connection. "Seems a change of plans Melody-san, there was a prison break just now, some crazy lunatics released all the dangerous people on the streets and it's quite chaotic in parts of Tokyo right now."
He shook his head, clearly disgusted at the event as he continued. "The school has given you permission to assist in the evacuation measures that are in place currently. It seems one of the districts has been cleared a safezone thanks to the timely intervention of the Public Safety Commission and the police, and they are currently working on setting up a field hospital, fortunately your instructor is at the scene, seems she was directing some of the taskforces in securing a perimeter and is now currently providing medical assistance to the injured civilians. If you wish we can head over there now? Else I have been asked to escort you back to the campus If you're too worried about being so close to the danger. You should be safe since the police secured the area already, and some pro heroes are in the nearby vicinity but... the risk remains that something could happen...

"Yes very much so." she replied to the man dressed in the very nice suit, she was kind of quiet it felt weird having to speak in japanese again after spending some time in Florida. Melody had been wanting to work on her healing skills since learning what the true purpose of her quirk was. Being able to heal was a very rare ability in her world as the man had mentioned so she felt like it was her duty to learn how to do it as best as she could in order to help those in need. As the man began to speak about Elise melody's ears perked up. "Von eisenberg?" she asked curiously, she had met her brother Luka once but she didn't get to chat very much with him during their time with Itsuki. "Ah yes, I remember her. We didnt really get a chance to talk very much unfortunately. However im glad she seems to be doing well! I've been meaning to ask her close friend Tetsuko for lessons in sword play actually." she said offering a small smile and trying to help carry the small talk. In all honesty Melody was a bit jealous of Elise's piano skills and her medical talent. But she knew she had to take this chance to learn from the legend herself.
As the man took a call melody stared up into the sky from the window and was suddenly drawn back in when she heard news of something happening. "A prison break? how is that possible?" she asked with some slight panic in her voice. Of course only a week back and she's already being called into action. "No, I must go, if I can do something to be of help then I must." she said seeing this as a chance to do some good in the world. "Please sir allow me to go help with the situation." She said with a new found determination in her eyes.

The man seemed quite interested to hear Melody's response, taking a moment before nodding his head to the driver who continued to take the vehicle to their destination. "We're not sure what happened either, unfortunately, that type of thinking is best left to the experts while we go to the safe zone."
As the car finally reached the outskirts of the city it was clear just how much chaos there had been caused. Both the police and military had mobilized to try to help stabilize the situation, and in the distance Melody might had even spotted signs of conflict as Quirked individuals fought against one another, but today her place wouldn't be on the battlefield. Instead the car stopped near the district Tokyo's hospital was at. Just a brief glance showed how serious the situation had been. While several tents were already set up and various medical personnel were tending to the injured, there was also the sight of the police, in the form of riot units who had set up checkpoints around the perimeter.
The man turned toward Melody and spoke in a reassuring tone. "This is your time to shine Melody-san, I'll go with you till we are past the safezone, after that we'll find your instructor and get you to work."
Exiting the car the man approached the checkpoint and addressed one of the police officers. "I apologize for being late, we had to take a small detour from Musutafu to reach the hospital, Miss Melody here has volunteered to lend a hand."
The police officer turned his gaze at Melody for a moment when he spoke in a firm voice. "Please wait while I verify your identi-"
But before he could finish his response a soft hum resounded in the air as a drone of sorts flew past the officers and hovered between the two, the drone facing Melody seemingly scanned her with some sort of green light, or perhaps it was a camera of sorts, but the owner of the contraption soon made herself known.
"No need to let them wait officer, I'll vouch for her."
A pink-haired lass dressed in a neat black coat that seemingly made her look both business-like yet somewhat remind people of a professor or a scientist approached from the opposite side of the checkpoint.
"Ah Doctor Eisenberg, understood we'll let her in then."
The man gave Melody a reassuring smile as he added briefly. "I'll leave you in her care then Melody-san, if something urgently happens, don't hesitate to call the school, alright?"
With that said Elise approached Melody and smiled briefly at her. "Sorry for the unusual state of things, but the security is needed. With so many prisoners on the loose, it's possible one of them will be trying to hit us where we are most vulnerable, so places like the hospital and the surrounding areas are heightened in security."
As Elise spoke she guided Melody along the collection of tents. "But you must have a lot of questions, I'd wish we could enjoy some small chatter over a drink or two but we got a lot of work ahead of us, so I'm glad to see that you are willing to lend a hand~ For now, how about you tell me some things? Like in terms of medical expertise, do you know anything beyond first aid? Do you rely on restorative properties of your quirk? If so how do they function?"

"Yes..you're right." she said when the man said to leave that kind of thinking to others. She followed closely behind the man, haste in her steps until they reached the checkpoint. Just as she was about to get a word in Melody was going to speak until a drone flew up to her face, the shock caused her to yelp for a second "AH" as she had put her hands up for a second before dropping them and realizing it was scanning her. As she looked over she saw Elise, she looked different since the last time she laid eyes upon her, she looked more mature? Well she certainly looked like a beautiful young woman. As the man told her to call the school in case anything happens, Melody bowed towards the man "Ill be fine with her around, she seems to have grown into a very capable young woman" melody said with a smile as she turned to Elise and gave a small nod.
She followed closely behind Elise, looking from side to side to see the tents. All the people who seemed exhausted, injured, or rushing to help where they can. Melody wanted to help them really bad but she had to focus on what Elise teaching her, she wanted to become stronger so that she could help them easily. "Ah no need to apologize, if everything were normal there wouldn't have been a need for all of this and I couldn't have been of help. I just hope I can do enough to help the injured." She said "Im just glad to see you doing well from the looks of it, i don't know if you've seen Luka recently but i did my internships with him and he seems to be doing well from what i saw." she said smiling trying to make some small talk with the young doctor.
As Elise went on to ask melody questions she took a moment to gather her thoughts as she stared at a person's injury for a bit too long but quickly looked away before either Elise or the person with the injury noticed. "Ah, well i only discovered the healing properties from my 2nd year on so i didn't learn any medical knowledge or first aid. So I mainly rely so far on my quirk's restorative properties." She said shyly. "So my quirk used to be i'd turn into water, from what i heard similar to yours but the details are a bit fuzzy from what i know or heard about you're quirk. just random slime jokes from U.A chat haha.." she said blushing a bit trying to get elise to see her as someone she could relate to. "I can still turn into water! But now i can sing or basically just make my vocal chords vibrate to control water and if i focus hard enough I can heal a person or my own wounds by water." she said "I think it kind of works like stem cells? I used to be able to turn my body into water so maybe the reserve is possible? Im not sure, I havent really been able to break much ground in discovering how it works..maybe you could help with that if you're interested?" she said curiously as she allowed Elise to continue leading the conversation

Elise smiled briefly at Melody's attempt to make some small talk. Even in a serious situation like this, Elise did appreciate such efforts. She wasn't someone who preferred to be all business unless it was truly necessary. Some casualness and small talk was always welcome for her, so when Melody started talking she listened while guiding the girl along the checkpoint. So it seemed that despite the dangerous nature of the prison break, Melody saw it as an opportunity to help people, a mindset worthy of praise. She knew a lot of the girl's peers would likely have used the prison break as an excuse to prove themselves, chasing criminals or villains in the hope to test their strength or pursue some fame.
The talk about Luka made her shake her head lightly. "Unfortunately I haven't seen my little brother lately. The combined workload of the Public Safety Commission and my medical responsibilities tend to take up most of my schedule. I haven't even seen Tetsu this week yet~" Elise chimed the last part as a jest, but with the small talk over and Melody thinking on how to answer her questions, Elise listened attentively.
So Melody possessed the ability to provide restorative properties to the water she could control or create from her body? That was fascinating for sure. Fundamentally it was quite similar to the properties of her own slime, although as Melody mused about the nature of her restorative powers Elise answered her with a smile.
"Sounds like Magic, doesn't it?" Yet after a short pause she shook her head lightly. "And yet surely we both are old enough to know magic is something only found in fantasy novels, fairytales or manga~"
She seemed to be approaching the direction that Melody had been looking at earlier and continued her explanation. "The human body is quite fascinating in regards to its healing factor. You might have seen or experienced it before, how a shallow cut on the skin might heal over time, or a stomachache might just disappear after a while. On its own, a healthy body is quite benevolent to its owner, it tries to naturally help itself recover, as long as it has the needed resources."
She turned toward Melody, pondering how to explain the next part. "When someone becomes sick or injured, the body needs to expend more resources, but sometimes it simply has not enough to deal with the injuries or sickness it is inflicted with. It is for that reason treatments are used. Medicine helps supply the body with the needed resources to recover. But there is one rather important vulnerability to this approach, which also applies to quirks with restorative properties like ours. Do you know what that is?"
She waited, giving Melody a chance to answer her question upon which, whether correct or not she would resume speaking. "To the human body medicine is often considered a foreign substance, meaning that a part of the human body will expend energy to identify and possible eliminate the resources we provide through medication. This is why sometimes people suffer from side-effects from medication. Now you might be wondering: How would I be able to prevent this from happening with my Quirk?"
Elise smiled briefly at Melody and continued speaking. "Practice, learning how to control and adjust the properties of your quirk is essential in the medical field. For example take this patient." She gestured at the young man who was lying on a stretcher, a mere glance at him suggesting he had been under some sort of sedative to ease the pain, and a look at his leg easily suggested why this was the case. Several deep lacerations were found below the height of his knee.
"Normally we would have to spend quite some time treating this patient. Disinfecting the wounds, removing potential foreign objects from inside his leg, stopping any internal bleeding and then also stitching the wounds. Normally something that would require a proper environment for such a treatment, but with enough knowledge and practice with your quirk, you could save people even in the middle of a battlefield."
As she spoke she gently extended a hand toward the man's leg and then it happened. Her skin seemed to turn a pinkish tint, returning to its slime texture and with a careful brush over the several lacerations Melody would start to see what Elise had been talking about. As the young woman withdrew her hand the slime seemed to move on its own, growing thinner and less solid, almost akin to liquid as bits of glass and metal fragments were carefully extracted from the wounds.
"Fortunately quirks like ours also possess purifying properties, or simply said they can function as disinfectants. Right now I'm controlling my quirk to find and carefully remove anything unusual that might got stuck inside his leg due to the injuries he suffered. Afterwards I will stop the internal bleeding and harden my slime to close off the injuries."
With her explanation done the slime seemingly started to harden, like a plaster forming over the injuries of the man and seeing the man's pained expression softening she smiled at Melody. "Although this type of treatment might be just a bit beyond your level for the time being. So we'll take it step by step."
She motioned for Melody to follow her to another stretcher where a mother was worriedly hugging her child, a young girl whose left arm was kind of bend in a unnatural way. "This girl her arm is broken and dislocated, one important task a doctor has is to reassure her patients, knowing what to say to inspire your patients, to comfort and reassure them is important, especially with children. I will apply an anasthetic to ease her pain, but I'd like for you to use your quirk to set the dislocation right, it is important for you to 'feel' through your water, feel how it flows around the bone of the patient, and then manipulate your quirk to set it right. Don't worry, I will lend you a hand with my own quirk, but I'd like for you to take the lead in this treatment."

Melody "I see, that's quite unfortunate. At least he can be proud of his sister! You're doing amazing work here Im sure tetsu is also very proud! she's doing very well lately as well, she's going to be helping me with sword play later so I hope things go well with her too." she said trying to smooth over the conversation because she realized they might be really close and she probably misses her brother a bit on top of that she also probably misses tetsuko a lot as well, hell melody still missed Eli a bit so melody could understand. At least she still got to see Tetsuko..and keep in touch with her, Melody got cut off entirely from Eli since he just..up and vanished. Melody was a bit jealous if she was being honest with herself.
As elise went on to crack a wise one on it sounds like magic from manga or anime melody laughed a bit to herself."Yeah it does sound a bit like magic, a singer who could restore a person's body? Sounds like it's right out of a game of DnD." she said during the pause Elise had between statements. Oh god she just described a bard, melody's a bard. the realization hit her like a truck and it showed on her face for a second...magic wasn't real right? She slapped both her hands on her face to bring herself back to reality for a moment. Oh god what if it really was magic? Nah that's ridiculous.
Melody followed Elise's words closely, taking mental notes of important parts that she had to know. She watched as Elise's body became slime and she began to work to heal the man's wounds...wow and while speaking too. Elise was amazing to say the least. When melody would heal she HAD to sing, her skill level with healing was nowhere even near this girl. As Elise asked her a question melody paused wondering the answer for a bit before giving a good educated guess "Because it's foreign? like blood types?" she said unsure of her answer, as Elise confirmed her suspicions she let out a small sigh of relief and listened to the rest of her explanation. Melody stood there in amazement as she watched Elise begin to use her quirk to heal the person's body. Wow, so her quirk didn't heal them directly...but instead she used surgical control of her quirk to help heal and cauterize wounds...amazing.. Melody stood there stunned at the skills Elise just displayed with ease. Wow the gap between them was huge, and this just made that incredibly obvious. She was even more grateful than before for Elise taking up melody on her offer for lessons.
She then followed Elise's lead, the little girl looked melody in her eyes and fear instantly hit the little girl. Melody instantly became discouraged for a split second before keeping Elise's words to heart. She had to reassure this girl and make her comfortable that was her first goal. She looked at her shirt and saw a famous didney princess on it. Melody used her knowledge of the princess and walked right up to her and got to her eye level. "Hey, who's your favorite princess?" she said pointing to the girl's shirt hoping she got an answer out of her. "Is it Elfa?" she asked curiously if it was the famous ice elf princess didney had. "She's my favorite character too, she's very pretty." she wanted to calm the girl down and earn her trust. "So what's wrong sweetie...does your arm hurt?" melody asked curiously looking to her arm. "Do you mind if i see it for a second? I think I can help." she asked as she started to look at the dislocated arm and tried to analyze the arm.
Melody looked towards Elise and walked over quickly to whisper to her as so the mother and daughter didn't hear. "Elise do you mind if i try on my own?" she said showing a bit of determination in her eyes. "I think I can do this and I'd like a chance to prove myself."a Melody awaited an answer, she obviously couldn't do this without her mentor's permission nor did she want to disobey Elise and incur her wrath.

Melody's remark about Luka having a reason to feel proud of his sister made Elise quietly ponder for a moment. It made her think back about their conversation during Christmas. Back then Luka had told her that he had felt abandoned, that she had abandoned him. Back then those words had hit her rather hard. The fact that she had done all those things, made all those sacrifices in her life for the sake of her loved ones. She had decided to carry such responsibilities and burdens for their sake, so to think he had felt like that... She could only hope that he had started to feel proud of her in recent days, for even if she was not always there physically, her little brother did often linger in her mind. "I hope he will feel proud of me someday." Elise mused softly, a bittersweet smile on her lips, although one that visibly brightened a little when Tetsuko was mentioned. The idea that Tetsu was going to help Melody with her swordsmanship made sense, not only was Tetsuko a prodigy when it came to the art of the blade, being that she was the heiress of the Shindou, but she also was a good and fair teacher in her opinion. "I'm sure you will be in capable hands then~" Elise chimed with a smile.
Of course her little jest did seem to work in brighten up the mood, and the talk about magic did seem to be a fun change of pace. However, quirks were by all means a scientific something, no matter how outlandish they might be in their output, quirks always could be traced back to biological functions of the body.
Elise nodded her head in affirmation to Melody's words. "In a way one could say some quirks are more proficient at healing. For example take our quirks. I had to hone my control immensely before I could use it properly to aid people. I mean, certainly my fluids might possess restorative powers, but they are not a natural part of the human body, and as such tend to drain some stamina from the body as it takes in the healing effect. However, as you have been taught before: The human body, for a large part contains water, the very same substance you can use to manipulate, so the amount of foreignness is much less. Consider the difference: I have to infuse a part of my quirk into others, yours 'stimulates' the body to recover, in some cases you obviously need to rely on your own water to heal a person, but the fact remains that in terms of raw potency, your quirk would be more suited for healing purposes compared to mine."
Even if it might had sounded like praise, it was also the actual truth, some quirks needed much more control and finesse to work compared to others. Certainly Melody had to sing, but in the end the healing effect was more potent on a base level. "That is partly why I been doing research into finding means to alling Quirks with the human body more smoothly, so that restorative powers like ours would be more easy to employ in the medical field.
Although Melody watched and seemingly pondered about the usage of her quirk, it was for the most part correct. Although her fluids contained regenerative powers, it took such precision and finesse to ensure she could use her quirk to tend to certain injuries. "It is important to know that just being good at healing isn't enough, medical knowledge is just as important. Knowing how the human body functions, learning to recognize, feel or sense when something is wrong, deciding the best way to treat the problems found during the diagnose and then carrying out your treatment. One might have thought: I could have just used regeneration on the wound and closed the flesh, but the metal fragments inside his leg would have stuck, they would have festered and led to worse complications over time."
Indeed, there was no shortcuts when it came to being a doctor. Although she looked quietly toward Melody as she attempted to earn the girl's trust. However, when Melody finally decided to turn to Elise and whispered softly, Elise's neutral expression softened in a brief smile. "Go ahead Melody, as important as it is to follow rules and regulations, one of the essential things you'll need here in the medical field is the willingness to take initiative. A desire to help, a willingness to act without being given an order, but above all a determination to help your patient."
She looked at the child who had calmed down enough, and as Melody's efforts to make the child trust her, even going as far as showing her injured arm Elise continued. "You have succeeded in the first step: earning the trust of your patient, now it is your duty to find the best way to help them."
She reached with a hand to her cheek, pondering for a moment. "A dislocated arm, it's likely parts of her muscles will be torn, some bones might be fractured or broken, try to take it step by step, find the method that works best for you and your patient. I'll be watching, normally in the field we don't have classic anesthetics but in this case she was given some before our arrival, so her pain is numbed, if you have any questions or things you're unsure of, don't hesitate to voice them: there are no dumb questions, especially not in this field."
And so she decided to give Melody the opportunity to take care of her first patient. She had chosen quite a challenging problem, after all broken limbs required a lot of time and effort to mend, even Elise needed to use a lot of effort to heal those with only her quirk, but if Melody approached it one problem at a time, she was confident the girl would find the solution she needed. Not only that but it seemed one of the first responders from the hospital had arrived to place a medical kit beside the student, containing an assortment of supplies, from disinfectants to the tools to create a cast. And with a thumbs up and a good luck whisper they had left, leaving Elise to observe Melody's first trial.

Melody stood there stunned for a second. She thought Elise's quirk was similar to hers...but no, she didn't naturally have restorative properties..Melody suddenly felt very intimidated, Elise had such precision in her quirk...she made it useful for treating people..God just how talented was Elise really? The gap between them suddenly felt even wider than the mariana trench, which in melody's mind begged the question. With a person so talented as Elise what exactly did she see in Melody that she wanted to personally teach her? Melody came for answers for questions and suddenly the more questions came in and replaced the answers she had. "You really think so Elise? If you ever need my help for making that dream a reality i'd be glad to put my own hat in the ring." she said "If it means people like me can leave a bit more easily with some more freedoms i'd do anything." she in reference to Elise's attempts to employ more quirks in the medical field.
"Wow you're even more amazing than I heard." she said still showing obvious intimidation at the girl's skill level. However it was more of a comical intimidation than actual fear. She nodded her head as Elise explained to melody that medical knowledge was just as important if not more so than having a restorative quirk. Melody at first didn't really think much of expanding on her medical knowledge but as time passed Elise made more sense, if melody couldn't sing for her patient or even speak she wouldn't be able to save anyone. She might have had to do emergency treatment and the like which she wouldn't even know where to start.
Elise responded well to melody's request even offering her some advice for the medical field. Melody looked down at her own hands, clenching her fists together really fast and letting go. Elise began to give melody information on how the girl's arm was most likely injured since she was already diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder. Melody paid special attention to the information, a slight mistake could end up traumatizing this girl...no pressure at all.
She spoke to herself softly "I can do this, I can do this, i can do this." she said trying to hype herself up. She stood up and looked a the girl with a small warm smile "Hey I have an idea you might be interested in." She said as she sat down next to the small girl on her cot. "How about we sing Elfa's song together?" she said with a small smile on her face "Do you want to sing the words and ill sing with you? I think Elfa's song is just lovely and it would be really fun to sing with you sweetheart." she said, The little girl silently nodded up and down, instantly becoming a little shy. Melody started off slowly, and encouraged the girl with a smiling face, fixing her hair with her hand. Slowly but surely, water from the atmosphere began to gather around the little girl's dislocated shoulder. But with her being distracted by singing the song she didnt really seem to notice. A slight blue glow came from the water, matching a slight blue glow in melody's eye's the girl seemed to be completely enchanted by melody's singing
Melody glanced over to the girl's shoulder, it seemed like her quirk was doing her usual thing, it was looking for any possible wounds on the girl's body and doing it's best to restore them to proper form. Melody always found it rather amazing that she was able to do something like this. As opposed to Elise's guided thought process and critical quick decision making with her slime, melody's was slow and felt much more..natural..
Bit by bit Elise and others watching could see the little girl's wounds vanish slowly yet surely. Parts of her body that touched the water looked as if they were brand new and left no scars. As the song ended Melody looked over to her arm, it seemed as if nothing had even happen to her in the first place. She spoke to the girl "Hey, does your arm feel better now? does anything hurt?" she said as she pointed to the girl's arm and encouraged her to look.
