Just as Aquataine was going over the finer details of the days events, Jace stood despondent as he loomed over the edge of a panic attack, his breaths rapid and shallow the more Keiko-sensei laid our her expectations for them. And as she went into further detail of the run itself, Jace would just catch the gist of things. Namely that the difficulty they'd be going on wasn't as simple as he'd thought originally, namely that rookie didn't represent rookie in a student fashion but instead in the pro-hero sense. And for most, that might be relieving. After all, that meant that the failures one was likely to experience here wasn't ones own fault but instead were to be expected, and worked on over the final year. But for Jace, it was simply another example of the expectations that were being placed upon him, and another example of what Aquataine-sensei expected from him as a hero.
That combined with her outright claim that their performances would likely influence her final opinions of them as students and future heroes might have been the slight nudge needed to force Jace over the edge into full blown panic attack. But thankfully Jace did have someone to act as a stabilizer, to hold his worst emotions and feelings at bay. And that was Yusaku, his classmate, roommate, and best friend. The robotic boy had gotten rather good at reading the volatile French boys mood, and he came straight over, cooing with soothing words just as Jace felt his weakening support was about to break below him.
It allowed Jace to take the deep breath he so desperately needed, still in a mode of panic but at least no longer in danger of being completely incapacitated by such panic as he was before. For now, at least. But while Jace would slowly nos to Yusaku's offer of partaking the course together, he was pretty sure that wearing Yusaku to compete in what was supposed to be a competition if it didn't go against the actual rules of the race would at least go against spirit of it. So instead, with a final sniffle, would slowly shake his head to the offer. I...I don't think we're allowed to do that Yu...But it's ok... I..I'll be f-fine... He was hiccuping his words a little, but he did seem recovered a bit. And not too soon either as they were up next.
And soon they'd be entering Fort Slog, and before them was utter chaos, truely looking like villains were running rampant. Debris and destruction all around, and right in front of them the first target. The civilian they were supposed to escort. Jace would take another breath before running in at the GO, slowly transitioning from running on both legs to all fours as with it he transformed as well, his tail growing out and with it his ears, claws, and fangs. He'd be hit hard by the sudden influx of smells, the smoke getting thicker as it clogged his nostrils, explosions more intense as it reverberated in his ears. But he was used to it, and was able to focus on the "civilian" he was expected to transport. And right away it'd show that Jace was at a disadvantage, taking a full five seconds to struggle to get the robo-civ in a position he could still be mobile, draping the body over his back. He struggled so much, he didn't even think to offer soothing words to what would be a likely panicking civilian if it weren't just a robot that needed escorted. But still, immersion was part of the training here, and his callousness couldn't do well for his score.
