With his hands placed behind his head, Cody let out an audible sigh as he walked through the dark alleyways of Tokyo. He had only just arrived in Tokyo recently and he was already excited to get himself in all of the dark reaches making contact with the various big names he could find. Now he didn't exactly know any of them by name yet, he did absolutely no research before coming to Japan, but he still took every impressive tidbit he heard to heart. As long as he wasn't being set up by some cop, he was content meeting whoever.
As for why he was in the alleys now, he had actually gotten approached by some other lowlife like himself who decided to pass along an opportunity to him. There was going to be a meeting set up between himself and someone who goes by 'Army of Bones'. It was quite a fancy title, and said lowlife also brought up that they were the leader of a Corporation or somethin like that, he couldn't really remember. Cody didn't really have anything to pass along about himself so far, so instead he just told the lackie to call him 'MD' upon setting up this meeting.
While this random scumbag didn't seem like too much, Cody had a sort of itch telling him he should buy in on this opportunity. He normally didn't openly trust things like this as he had been betrayed before, but the lowlife seemed relatively genuine about the positives of this group he was going to make contact with. So, he was going to bite the hook and see where he was reeled into, and with any luck it wouldn't be the open doors of a police cruiser.
Cody was told where to meet up with this contact, and decided to head there by himself. He didn't want any fancy backup holding him down, not that he could actually get hold of any, he was completely alone in this country so far.
He had arrived a bit early to the meeting point, which meant he could settle down in the darkness of the alleyway, his cold golden eyes peering down both directions as he waited to see who would meet him. He wasn't told all that much, or even what he was supposed to look out for. But overall he was optimistic about this, he didn't want to be too impatient.

She held the sword in her hands. She felt the weight, the balance, she swung it lightly in the air in front of them, as if to judge it before them. Perhaps they had fetched it for her, or made it. Like a mother judging her child's macaroni art. The scabbard held in her left hand, as her right held it, close to her face, inspecting the hilt, the blade, before holding it out, pointing at the men, directing the three of them. None of them had brought the weapon. None of them had brought it. It was created just moments before, by the person that held it. Her black suit was a great contrast to her violet hair and the white sword in her hand. The black shirt with a tie and the rest of her cloth to match. A thin sheer bodysuit covering her skin, with exception to her face, which revealed her fair skin. Her own jaw reshaped, much more narrow than it was normally, and hidden behind a mask made of the same material of the sword; bone. She pointed the blade, two of the men sitting comfortably, while one leaned against the wall. The blunt end that tip held under his chin as she smiled. ". . . And?"". . . And he's gonna be a good worker, you'll see." he held a nervous tone in his voice, less begging for his life, and more so trying not to disappoint her. Kasey would shrug, before moving the sword to lightly tap the side of his face. "I suppose The Corporation is always hiring. Three hands is better than two.""What? He has two hands.""I know." She swung the blade downwards at the man's side, a small gasp and a yelp before she stopped, the blade twisted to slap the back of his hand lightly. ". . . But you suck at your job."The other man would let out a small laugh before pointing to signal that someone was approaching. The men, save for the contact would remain. Kasey would wave them off. "Oi, don't get caught this time. I'm not going to pay the police to turn aside from your fuck ups a fifth time.""Yes ma'am." one would say, before the pair walked off. Kasey would turn around to face her newest guest, the blade twirled around to be held in a reverse fashion. She would place the weapon back into its case before extending her right hand to the man. "I take it you're MD?" She would say, "Army of Bones." a smile cracked from behind her mask. ~ Word Count: 000 ~ |

It was a surprise to him, albeit a welcome one, that the people who were at this place already were the contacts he was meant to meet with. He probably should have expected that they would arrive even earlier than him if they were professionals, but some part of him didn't want to assume that every shady person in these back alleyways was going to be relevant to him right away. He kept his nose out of other people's business, and he hoped that others would keep their noses out of his own business if they were smart about it.
Still, it was quite lucky that he had already gotten to somewhat see the end of his contact's dealings with another part of the underworld. It eased some concerns off of his shoulders that this was a setup of some kind. Upon seeing the extended hand held out towards him, Cody would offer a smile from the opening in his bandages as he stared at the hand. With the chaotic and seemingly random nature of quirks, he really had no idea if he should just grab ahold of this hand so willingly. For all he knew he was about to be blown up the moment he made contact with this person's hand. They WERE a person who was willing to make contact with a scumbag like him, after all. But still, that was the risk he was taking meeting ANYONE from these parts of society. He needed to take the plunge.
Cody would reach his hand out, taking a hold of the other person's to give a firm shake. "Yeah, I'm MD. A pleasure to meet you." he would respond quite bluntly, taking a quick look around. With the pair being sent off from her previous interaction, it seemed that she was light on immediate backup too. "I suppose I should cut to the chase. I'm new in town, and making my own work isn't all that appealing right now." he'd offer a brief pause as he pocketed his hands, placing them both into his jacket as he tilted his head to the side to stretch his neck a bit.
There were quite a few ways he could go about wording this, but sidelining things would get him nowhere. He needed to be direct. He needed friends in the underworld that could supply him with stuff to do. "So... I need contacts, people that I know can find me some work here and there. And I heard from a mutual buddy of ours that you were just the kind of contact I was looking for." as he finished off, he'd give a more firm smile while leaning back against the wall of the alley. It was time to see if she was one of the ones he was looking for.

Most people were pawns. But even pawns could turn into game changers, that was, if they survived long enough. Most did their job stopping other pawns from moving, while others served as an obstacle. Not all were destined for death. Sometimes even the pawns got the fame for the downfall of a king. Sometimes even they dawned crowns. It was always a gamble. The touch of hands could easily have spelt death for herself, but she knew her powers, and she knew that anyone that was even a threat, could not kill her fast enough for her to stay down. A calculated risk, and one like that, was no risk at all. It was small moments like this that spoke volumes for a person. How they approached seemingly normal moments. They weren't ordinary people anymore. They were criminals. They needed to think different, to survive. "Work I can offer you, both sides of the city." She answered, and with it, a bit of secrets. "You can work with these twats, make good money, stir up some trouble. Make large withdrawals from a few banks, or check in with a few organ donors." Word play, it was one of the few things that kept her light, and that equally amused her. The simple minded ones were just waiting to be squashed. If they couldn't pick up on her hints, then they would be as useful to her as Bucket was. "But if you'd rather have a comfortable life, than a name, there's always the more civilian approach." She'd glance back, the men now out of sight. "Hired hands, from cooks to receptionists. Good paying jobs, easy money, and no risk. Though, nothing stops you from taking both opportunities." She'd cross her arms, still holding onto the weapon. "What are you looking for? And what are you good at?"And so the negotiations began. ~ Word Count: 313 ~ |

It was time to get to the good stuff, as this new potential employer started to tell him about all of the 'opportunities' she had for him. There was a bit of everything, which was good, as he had a very specific set of things on his mind for the time being. He wasn't the smartest bulb in the room that was for sure, but he could at least pick up on the little nuances in speech that made it obvious what he was really going to be asked to do if he accepted some of these things. A lot of it sounded a little too public to him though. He had his own things in mind.
After only a little bit of listening, the topic was turned around to Cody and what exactly he was looking for, as well as his set of skills. "I'm not a very public kind of guy, I hate publicity. I'm not in this to get famous on all of the wanted lists." he'd stretch his neck out again in thought, moving a hand out of his jacket pocket once more to assist him. "So I'd like if I am not put on stage with spotlights pointed at me for the world to see." as he continued on, he'd make sure to stare directly as the woman across from him with a more relaxed look on his face now as he had to go over everything.
"I have a twisted sense of pleasure. I certainly like to hurt and torture people, and I guess being a bruiser for more private stuff would be fun too if someone needs to get roughed up or a fight breaks out." he put more and more thought into it as he went on, but being some sort of enforcer or guard for shady unground dealings would probably be nice for him. He didn't want to do any major bank heists where his name would be all over the news. "And I guess for what I'm good at... well, my Quirk is well-suited to burning things and blowing stuff up." for the time being he was only going over the more risky, sketchy jobs, but she also brought up the other side of city life which was actually sort of important as well.
"I wouldn't be opposed to an up-front, more civilian job either. Something to keep the alibi going during the day before moving on to the sketchy stuff at night. Though as for what, I'm not too certain, I've never held a normal job before." as much as he wanted to sidestep the fact that he had no civilian job experience, he had to come right out and say it. He had nothing to offer there in terms of training or knowledge. He'd have to get the experience on-site.

There was three kinds of people in this world. There was those that fought for fame or infamy, trying to win hearts or stop them. There was those who never wanted to be seen, hiding in the shadows. There was those who wanted to just exist and pretend it was all normal, like this was the new normal. The fighters, the hiders, and the survivors. Listening to him, she could piece him together. He wanted not fame, which left him being a hider, or a survivor. If he was trying to live his life, then he wouldn't have made the steps he wanted. He was someone who worked from the shadows, did what he wanted and gave what he would take. He was someone who would hide in the midst of battle, until it came for him. There was a use for him. And she would find it soon. She let him speak until he was done, all the while listening and planning what to do with him. Explosions? Something loud for someone who wanted not to be known. But suited to make things look planned, given a few spare materials and scraps to look like actual bombings. "I see." she said, musing to herself. "So a job so you can pay the bills, and a job where you can enjoy yourself." She looked up and down the walls of the alleyway, holding the sword in her hand as she rested on her hip. "Well, with little job experience, I don't suppose you're a people person." she said, half asking, "Then I could offer a receptionist sort of job, that or simply delivering organs and other materials in the hospital. Though, nothing shady there, other than no need for a resume." She thought about it, "Then I suppose at night, when most things are slowed down, unless you prefer to work during nights at the hospital, I could use you for other means.
After all, I can't have any loose ends. Y'kno, NDAs and stuff." she would shrug, obviously hinting at torture to make sure certain people didn't speak, and others couldn't speak ever again. ~ Word Count: 355 ~ |

It seemed like things were falling readily into place now, though there were of course a couple of things Cody wanted to touch upon. "Well, I don't mind if the job doesn't pay the bills per se. I just want something to use as a cover I guess." he would reach up and ruffle his own hair as he thought about it. He wasn't exactly an owner of anything, bills weren't a problem just yet so he didn't care what he was getting paid. He was just a man who liked to keep himself busy.
First up they had to discuss the day-job that he would be taking up. Both of them sounded simple, and he would just offer a slight shrug. Being a receptionist would be weird for him but he wouldn't mind it... and then a hospital would probably be fine enough. "Either one works, I'm not looking for anything in particular. So whichever one you think is in need of a new hire more urgently." with that settled, it was time to go into arguably what was more important to him.
Almost immediately Bones would catch his interest when she brought up not wanting loose ends. It was a subtle way to describe it but it was right up his alley. "That sounds perfect. I suppose with that work I'd be on call should you need me at any point?" he would pause for a moment, as he imagined she wouldn't always need someone silenced. He would smile again as he returned to staring at Bones. "Now I have to ask, would this restrict me from working with anyone else? I try to busy myself with as many opportunities as possible." it was a simple question to end off with, and Cody would fall silent until he heard an answer. He was trying to put his foot in every door that was opening up to him. It would be a shame if he was forced to shut every other door from then on.

Things were simple. The more simple things were, the faster they developed. Often, the more steps you took, lead to new variables being added and a complicated outcome. With few variables, there was less risk, and with less risk, less problems. Problems, after all, were bad for business. He spoke about his job, and not needing the cash. Maybe he didn't need it, but coverage had its benefits. No matter what job he took, his health coverage would be free. As well as his dental. Perhaps that was worth mentioning, but it wasn't on the top of her mind right now, nor the tip of her tongue. "I don't need anyone." she would say, "But do let me know what hours of the day you plan to spend with your personal matters and I'll be sure to arrange you a shift that benefits you best." Alibis, it was all that he needed. It wasn't like he needed a full shift. To pay a partime worker partime hours, while reporting a full shift would come out of her own pocket, and not the company. If anything, there was no crime, other than a boss giving her own personal money to a few employees. And with the coverage, who was really going to complain anyways? "You're your own person." she would say, "If you wanna work two jobs, three jobs, that's up to you. Do let me know. From the household Kobayashi name or others, it would benefit us both to know who you're working with, so I can also work to prepare a shift with like minds." There was much to discuss, but Kasey had eyes and ears everywhere. From people she had lived with, to the new nightly visits, then of course, thanks to her own twin sister. "Now remind me, I can't remember if I asked, but how is your housing situation?" she was curious, "We also have arrangements for that, there should be no need for public transpiration when we have our own private service, and for a few of my trusted employees, a chauffeur." She smiled, laughing a bit to amuse herself. She had heroes, students, villains and vigilantes alike. All of them trafficked in black cars. While she enjoyed a hand in every cookie jar, everything gave her an eye to where who was what. No hero needed to cross a villain that wasn't doing anything, while villains were able to work as intended. Bodies of victims taken and used for donations, used to save lives. From one murderer, saved other lives. Even crime had its uses. ~ Word Count: 432 ~ |

When Bones said they didn't need anyone, he nodded a bit and cupped his chin in thought for a moment. The hours that worked best if he was going to spend the night doing his own thing was obviously going to be the afternoon. But there was more to it than that probably. "If possible I'd like a job that is easy to call off if I'm needed elsewhere during those hours. I assume that is already fine but just in case I needed to specify. And for hours... something in the afternoon. That'll let me move seamlessly from the afternoon work to the nightlife. And then I'll get any rest I need in the morning." that seemed like the best way to tackle the day-job situation. It would let him actually get some rest while also having a cover before night.
Then he was given the go-ahead to work with as many people as he liked. Of course, he was limited by the hours of the day and his own stamina but it was nice to know that he had the security to do as he pleased. The stipulation of discussing who he was working with was there, that would be simple enough. "I'll let you know if I do, then." he sounded quite happy with that, a smile spread on his face before he started to stretch out his neck and shoulder again when the idea of his housing situation came up.
It was quite embarrassing but he had to be honest. It wasn't like he had much money yet to speak of, so his housing situation was entirely shot so far. "...I'm actually living in a shipping container in an abandoned warehouse. So, I suppose my housing could be better." he would close his eyes and let out a low sigh. Even though he had no way to help it just yet it was still quite awkward to say he was living basically nowhere. Such was the case of an average lowlife like himself. "If it wouldn't be an inconvenience, I'd be all too happy for you to arrange something there. But if it's too much of a hassle I don't mind figuring stuff out for myself." he was content answering that way, nodding his head a few times.
This deal had gone off without a hitch it seemed, so Cody couldn't be happier about where he was going. Regardless of where he would end up job-wise, this seemed like a good outcome.

No one really needed anyone. If you had the power, you could easily pave your own way in this world. Kasey was no different. But having a wall of money and bodies to divide her from her problems was a great plan, and to benefit others in a way that kept them wanting to be that wall wasn't exactly a cost, when it wasn't really her money to begin with. "Consider it done." she would say, "You'll probably find yourself with your friend then." A failure of a man whose only real successes have been bringing people to his great boss. Can't fire your worst employee when they continually bring you your best workers. Even pawns have uses. The man seemed pleased with his contract, and with it, his new job. Of course, with his new day job came his new identity. There would be formalities, to at least prove he exists for who he is, and not just a name on paper. The only required appearance before he starts to work at her more secret clinics, a code for the underground chop shops for bodies and organs left after battles and jobs. "Consider it done then. Show up to Tokyo General," she extended her sword, pointing the grip towards him as her fingers dug into the sides. The end of it would grow like vines until a white rectangle would appear. On it, an engraving of a skull, and "Tokyo General" made purely from the same bone of the weapon. "Present them that, and someone will take care of you. You'll be handled by an expert, or at least someone who knows what you'll be up to. No need to pretend with them, at least behind closed doors." A shrug, and after he took the business card of sorts she would put the weapon back at her side. "You'll be placed in one of the complexes, easy to blend in, and easy to use our tunnels. Maybe after some time you can move in with us at The Estate, with The Boss and others." she spoke, like it was a high end club, and in a way, it was. "Don't be afraid to ask for help, after all," another smile, she twisted and rolled her shoulders to crack her back. "I use my network to help you, and you get the jobs I need done, done. Everyone wins. Everyone goes home happy with a full belly, and a full wallet."~ Word Count: 411 ~ |

Out of everything he had heard, Cody couldn't help but chuckle a bit when he was told he would end up with his friend. As if some random person like that could be considered his friend, though he didn't want to argue the semantics of it all either. The man was simply a hand that guided him towards the greater prize, he could hardly be considered more than a stone that Cody stepped on to get to the other side of the rapid rivers of Tokyo life.
What happened next caused Cody to tilt his head curiously, staring down at what was being shown to him, before just swiping up the rectangle and giving it a few glances over. That was extremely convenient, and it made things a whole lot simpler for the next little while to get his work started. "I see... I like that. Means I can keep faking it to a minimum if they know whats going on." he smirked slightly at the prospect. He wasn't against trying to bullshit his way through a situation or a job, but as little as he had to put up with it the better. This was his work, and he wanted to take it seriously.
After that, he was told that after a while he could move in at some estate with the boss. That meant he wasn't currently speaking to 'the boss'. At least, that is how he interpreted what she just said. He didn't exactly mind, though, it just meant there was another step for him to take to reach that point. To get an in with the real big fish of the lake. "That sounds quite fancy, probably a bit too much for a lowlife like me, even if I take the time to earn my way there." he would cut that point off there, though he definitely wouldn't decline if he eventually was offered the chance to live at this estate. It was just that for the time being he wasn't in the mindset to live in something so fantastical. He liked to live without publicity after all.
It seemed like this deal was wrapping up nicely, though, with Cody smirking as she brought up one more thing. "Of course, I'll make sure to put in my own share before I ask for anything though. I do my best to be a hard worker above all else." that was about all he could say on that last bit, his face turning to look down the alley as he pocketed the pseudo business card. "So I suppose this is the end of this meeting? Do you need anything else from me before I head on over to Tokyo General?" with that, his possibly final question was posed. This could end their meeting there and he definitely wasn't going to waste his own time by not heading over to Tokyo General at his soonest convenience. But just in case there was something more that needed to be said he would stick around.

Words were simply that; words. One could argue the specifics of the matter. But acquaintance, was just another step to the word friend. Same could be said to an associate, an ally or a contact. Simply put, your nature towards each other was likely good natured, even if your personal habits weren't. The words chosen didn't make either less likely to be killed by the other, but that was how things were. Big fish ate smaller fish. Most friends, were not for life, often they were only kept around for a simple reason, and in this case, was to get to a larger pond. "Faking and loose terms are optional, but do make things interesting." she would give a small chuckle, "Though, I guess you could say I'm a surgeon, I just haven't gotten my license yet. But I'm great at my craft." Wordplay, it was always fun. But Kasey understood that hiring a villain, a criminal, a thug of sorts meant a less than reputable resume. She could however, have them prove their skill, and see what they were willing to do. That alone meant more than claiming to know a dozen obscure languages. "Well, everyone eventually finds their way to work for him. In a sense, even though I own and run everything, doesn't mean that he has no role to us." The estate where walls were nonexistent and curtains were lifted. All of the stagehands running around to show what really went on behind the scenes. A valley of secrets, and with them, the web of trust and truths. "Arrive in.. something different." she would say with a gesture. Her fingers extended as her hand waved over him. The sword in her left would be sucked into itself and would eventually disappear as if it was nothing. All bone was just another material to craft with, and using bones that weren't hers, well, that left nothing for evidence. "Learn to create a bigger divide between your... late night attire, to your more civilian clothing. That also helps us," the hand placed on her chest, directing to herself, but referring to the collective. "Know which name to use. That way, any spilled information is kept to a minimum." There wasn't much else to tell him, nor say. Mostly everything was set up for their next meeting, and with it his housing issue. For now, the time was only for him to ask any more questions about the dark underbelly of Japan. Otherwise, her time with him, was now used up as intended. ~ Word Count: 424 ~ |

Cody looked down at his clothes, squinting a bit and nodding. "I'll pick out something that looks nice then." he'd muse as he didn't exactly have a wide array of clothes to wear. It was actually a good idea to at least change out what he wore when going to some hospital for work. Even though he didn't want to get put in the public eye anyway, his look was very discernable if something bad was to happen to his quiet life.
There was also the case of names... that made sense. He wasn't sure what exactly she meant though, but in any possibility that it could be fit into it was reliable. Even if it wasn't exactly what she was going for, or maybe it was, he definitely couldn't march into a building and say that his work name should be MD, since that would link him to his villain side as well. Nor could he call himself Cody Ortega considering he had a history overseas. He needed a civilian alias. He could probably just come up with it on his way to the hospital as well as while grabbing his new clothes. It wouldn't be too hard to take care of that way.
But for now, Cody's time conversing with his new contact had come to an end. He'd end it off with a silent nod, knowing that there was nothing more to be said and that they should go their separate ways as casually as possible, especially since Cody was going to go out onto the streets now to find a reputable store to get clothes from. He couldn't just burst out of a criminal meet up and straight into the doors of someplace. He'd figure it out though, so he made his departure without too much fanfare.
He had just made a very good ally that day, and hopefully, it would lead to everything he was looking for. Only time would tell.
