APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Kit is an innocent-looking teenage boy who hasn't quite hit his growth spurt yet. He stands at 1.55 m and only weighs 45.4 kg. That combination makes him look even less intimidating than before. His build lacks a hint of muscle definition or fat, with any shred of the former being nothing more than leftovers from his days on the farm. Kit's eyes are blue, but they usually appear as simple black dots on his face, which help with his innocent and unthreatening appearance. He keeps his hair freshly groomed and nicely combed at the top of his head. For clothing, Kit definitely prefers his flannels, jeans, and boots when he isn't wearing a school uniform or costume.

Personality:
Born and raised as a farm hand, Kit has acquired the traits of an ordinary farmer. He's hard-working, he listens to authority figures and those in charge, and he's pure hearted. Growing up in a tiny town in Oklahoma, Kit hasn't quite been tainted by the harsh reality of the world. This works in his favor because he can see the good in almost any situation and because the boy is willing to give people a chance to prove themselves no matter what anybody else may say. At the same time, it puts him at a disadvantage because he can be too trusting at times. It also makes him gullible and easy to trick, especially when dealing with something that he has no experience with whatsoever.
The last thing Kit wants to do is step on any toes. He has always been the runt of the litter, so he knows how it feels to be the little guy. Paired with his innate innocence, Kit will often concede to others just to be nice. Being nice is more important to him than almost anything, to a fault even. Even when he does something good or wins in a competition, Kit will relinquish the praise to some other factor. After all, he is just little old Kit.
His dad always says "Ya ain't gonna grow nothin' if ya don't plant a seed," What does that mean? It means to take risks, because inaction is arguably worse than too much action. Kit takes this to heart, and while it may be safe enough back on the farm, in the real world, it can be the difference between safety and a serious injury. Kit's risk assessment is not great, especially when there is a super sweet reward on the other side of the risk.
Perhaps most interesting, Kit is really bad with technology, even at this point in time. Back home the most advanced piece of equipment was their tractor, and even that was ancient compared to what the rest of the world uses. He writes letters to his family rather than sending emails or texts, mostly because the only computer in their town is at the school library. After moving to Japan for school, Kit did buy a cell phone to stay in touch with classmates and a laptop so he could keep up with his school work, but otherwise he's perfectly comfortable without technology. Technophobe may not be the best way to describe it; it's more along the lines of not understanding how technology works.
Kit knows he can make use of his small stature to help him win fights and whatnot, but he also knows he could sprout up like a weed at any point and lose the benefit of being small just like that. His fighting style tries not to make use of his small size, but that doesn't mean he won't.
Finally, Kit is especially afraid of snakes. He'll act like a pure scaredy cat if he even sees a snake in person. Seeing one on a screen or in a picture is enough to make his skin crawl.

HISTORY
Kit Mathis was born in a small town on the panhandle of Oklahoma, USA, to two farmers Judd and Sally Mathis. Judd had a quirk that let him secrete more bodily fluids than normal, which was especially helpful on those long summer days out in the fields. Sally had a quirk that allowed her to create adhesive with her saliva, a useful tool when there was no tape or glue around. The couple grew up in the smalltown, got married, and started pumping out children who would (hopefully) be able to help as hands around the farm.
Being the middle child of eleven total kids, Kit didn't get any special treatment. He was born premature by an entire month and only weighed 2.2 kg. His parents were both burly people and above average height, and his five older siblings had all started growing into stronger kids themselves, so to see such a small baby surprised the Mathis family. Still, Kit survived his premature birth and started growing like any other kid.
Before too long, Kit was doing whatever he could to help out around the farm. With more hands on the way, specifically his ninth and tenth siblings (twins), Kit had to learn as many jobs as he could. That way, once the two new siblings were old enough to help, he would be able to teach them all by himself. Working around the farm wasn't easy, but it was earnest work, and every member of the Mathis family felt a sense of pride and success when a harvest went well in the fall.
Around the age of nine, Kit's Quirk started showing itself. A late bloomer, like the boy, he would momentarily have moments where he couldn't breathe and would fall down. At first this only happened once every few months, but that quickly turned into once a week, and eventually once a day. Soon, Kit started slipping out of control while not being able to breathe pretty much every hour. It got so bad, Sally had to take her son to the local doctor to get him checked out.
The local doctor was an elderly man who remembered life before Quirks. While Judd and Sally were familiar with Quirks, they were far from experts. Plus, neither of their Quirks caused uncontrollable sliding - in fact, Sally's did quite the opposite - so neither one really thought the Quirk was to blame. After not getting much information out of him, the family rolled down to Oklahoma City to see what was going on. There, the doctor calmly explained that Kit was simply a victim of his newly manifested Quirk. Once he figured out how to control it, it shouldn't give him any problems. A wave of relief washed over the family. Kit wasn't a victim of some bizarre disease, he just needed to man up and figure out what was going on himself.
Back home, Kit started getting questions about his Quirk from everybody. Classmates at their school, cousins from across town, even Old Man Jenkins wanted to know more about Kit, but he didn't even know what was going on. The only sanction was another kid in town named Jasper Smith. Jasper, a boy four years older than Kit, had a bizarre mutation Quirk that gave him ten additional hands on top of the normal two that most people got. Jasper received a lot of insults when he was young, but as he grew older and started helping out around town, he started to build up a reputation as one of the best people in town.
Jasper became a big inspiration to Kit, bigger than either of his parents or siblings. Jasper helped Kit get his Quirk under control, gave Kit life advice, and overall became a great friend to the undersized boy. One thing Kit liked about Jasper was his desire to help others. Growing up in a small town, helping other people was fairly commonplace, but apparently in the bigger cities it was less common. As Jasper got ready to attend high school, he managed to convince his parents to send him to a school in a big city rather than keeping him at the K-12 school he'd been attending his whole life. Kit was sad to see his friend go, but Jasper did not cut contact with his hometown.
The multi-armed boy made sure to write letters back home, especially to Kit, detailing what his studies were like in the big city. More importantly, Jasper spoke of what he had been doing to help people on the streets. It was mostly general volunteer work, like cleaning up garbage from a local park, but Jasper recounted the tales as if they were some mythological epics. The more Kit heard about it, the more he wanted to follow in Jasper's footsteps. The farm was nice and all, and Kit truly loved his family, but he had ten other siblings to carry on the farming legacy. Why did he have to focus on farming, too?
As time passed, Kit continued to grow, though not a lot. It seemed like Kit caught a case of the short-bug, because even his younger siblings were starting to grow taller than him. Additionally, without Jasper around to help, his improvements with his Quirk had gone by the wayside. Kit had essentially stagnated in his heroic developments.
By that point, Jasper had gone off to university, but Kit's older friend continued writing of his "heroic duties" and what life was like outside the confinements of their hometown. Jasper's description of the hero life, even if romanticized, was more than enough to inspire Kit towards a new goal in life. It was hard to tell his parents that he had a different career path, but they were proud of him for finding a passion in life that he could pursue. Helping others was admirable!
While still at his K-12 school in Smalltown, Oklahoma, Kit tried his best to focus on improving his control over his Quirk. Without a guide to help it, it wasn't easy, but Kit was determined to understand the capacity of his power. About halfway through the year, Jasper wrote about something he saw on the internet: a school that could train aspiring heroes. It had a great reputation as the first of its kind, and while it was located in Japan, it was apparently one of the best options for youngsters like Kit.
Of course, Kit wanted nothing but the best for himself. He spoke to his parents, and after some convincing, he managed to earn acceptance to UA High School in Japan. Moving to an entirely new country, leaving everything he'd ever known, was a super foreign idea to Kit. It was scary, too! All alone halfway across the world? Yikes!
Kit knew if he wanted to live up to Jasper's "legacy" of helping others, and perhaps even surpass him, Kit was more than willing to do whatever it took.
