Jace stretched, standing outside the school gymnasium as he let out a little yawn. Not that it was actually early or anything, he'd just been relaxing for most of the day, lazing about and enjoying the newly arrived warmth of spring. After being cooped up for most of winter, it was nice to be able to relax outside again. Technically, the cold didn't mean too much to Jace as if things got too bad he always had the option of simply igniting himself, but unfortunately one of the side effects of being on fire was also being a fire hazard, and relaxing in very flammable things like trees was...risky. Plus there was the risk of overzealous good samiritans, Jace reflexively cringing as he remembered when he'd had a cold bucket of water dumped on him last time he went flame on in a tree...during the middle of fall...So now he avoided doing that.
But while he was making up for time lost, he shouldn't spend all day relaxing, and figured he could find something to do in the gym to wake him up. Whether that be practicing his shooting for basketball or...Well, really that was about all he could think of other than some foot drills maybe. Honestly, it was kinda hard to practice things alone, but Jace preferred that difficulty to the difficulty of...socializing. He'd swore to himself that he'd try breaking out of his shell just a little more, and the people he did talk too were quick to try and encourage him on that path, but honestly he wasn't so sure how much more he could go. He was more active on the student chat, and...Well that his main achievement but it was something! It's not like his next opportunity was just gonna pop up out of nowhere.
And as fate deemed it, as Jace opened the gymnasium doors he'd be met with quite the sight. The basketball hoops were closed inward like they did during big events, and there were some tables around with water bottles, some full and some empty, along with another table of cupcakes. And strewn across the gym were gym mats, though no one seemed to be practicing on them at the moment. Jace looked about equally confused and intrigued. Did someone have an event here?... As he mumbled to himself he wandered inside, first stopping at the snack table. While his stomach growled with temptation, causing a reactionary blush, he resisted. This probably wasn't meant for him, and was for whatever event this was. Though as he looked about he still didn't see anyone. I wonder if everyone left already... Once again he wondered to himself as he approached the covered part of the gym, still unsure as for they were needed for. And as he did that, he suddenly felt something against his shoe, light and fluffy as strands of confetti rubbed against his exposed ankle. And he'd look down in surprise too se what he accidentally stumbled upon to find a...pom-pom? The ginger boy picked it up, now more confused than ever. What's this doing here?
Still not having put it together, he looked to see if there were any more stray pom-poms before his attention went back to the one in his hand. He'd seen cheerleaders use them before, but Jace himself had for very obvious reasons never done it,though the stunts had always looked impressive. He lifted his arm in a pumping motion, having the pom-pom shake and rattle with every movement. Not nearly as impressive as the people he'd seen on TV, and he giggled at himself for indulging in silliness like this. At least he was alone.

So she had waved everyone goodbye, thanked them for coming and taken a moment to take a breather outside. Seriously, even though she got used to it, she was still highly confused at being the captain and what to do with it. She felt the hot atmosphere of the indoors and had gone outside for a bit to fix herself up. She should have brought a water bottle. Though to be honest, she was glad no one stuck around for the cleanup, she kind of liked doing that on her own and fix it. That gave her time to think of routines, and just to empty her mind. She would see if she could text her- she blushed... boyfriend in a bit about the training and asking how his day was but for now, she would just have to see and do whatever she could do. Buttttt... her phone was indoors as well. With a sigh, she pushed her hips off the wall and would make her way back to the front door and head back inside. The door to the room she had used was slightly ajar and she leaned against it to see a redhead that she knew only vaguely and she remembered he didn't like the water and was quite shy. How not to surprise him, randomly clapping or saying his name (Jace, right?) wasn't going to work. So she decided that nothing would actually work and knocked on the door. "Hey." She had a sheepish smile on her face, she didn't want to scare Jace away after all. She gave a soft wave as well, hoping that because he had come to her party before, this would not be such a bad experience.
"Nice to see you again, Jace." Please be called Jace. She was sure that's what Kirk had said and she smiled and pointed at the pompom, "we just had cheerleader tryouts." She walked to the table with bottles of water and took one that stood aside and was still half full, that was hers and she took a sip. Her eyes scanned the table, there were still some cupcakes leftover, "You want a cupcake?" Well at least this year, more people had taken and more had shown up as well, she was very satisfied and happy about the whole idea. She smiled therefore quite happy at Jace, he probably didn't come from the tryouts, but she thought maybe she would make a joke about it, would that help? "You came for tryouts too?"

As Jace lifted the pom-pom into the air, the confetti strings going wild as they shook about with his every twitch, Jace felt himself become more and more sucked in by the mesmerizing, colorful ball of fluff in his hands. His original arm pump had been one of curiosity, trying to replicate what he'd seen from the television and the like. But then he did it again, and again, getting more and more into it with each and every move. He was starting to understand how people could get into this, imagining this with a roaring crowd, it almost seemed intoxicating. But imagining an audience from the safety of one's mind and actually having one were two very different things, especially for a shyer boy like Jace. Thus as he got pumped up enough for his final cheer, he'd crouch down before spring up as high as he could jump, lifting the shaking pom-pom into the sky while letting out a happy shout. Yeah!!
Nice to see you again, Jace
The voice would catch him immediately off guard, opening his eyes to a black haired girl while letting out a surprised squeak and letting go of the pom-pom in his surprise. And to add onto the embarrassment, instead of landing the high jump, the ginger boy would instead land squarely on his butt instead. And as the final blow, the lost pom-pom would do as all things that go up do, and come down squarely on his head. It was about as embarrassing a routine as someone could pull off, and he'd be stuck staring dumbly at the girl who knew his name, his face hotter and redder than it would be from his flames from the embarrassment. And as he sat there dumbly, not quite sure how to respond to the spectacle he'd been giving without realizing it, the girl would continue for him, pointing to the pom-pom as she explained its presence. If it was at all physically capable to blush harder than he was right now, the boy had achieved it. Oh...That makes sense... He stared at the pom-pom beside him, realizing he'd probably just managed to make this girl's job harder. The boy hadn't actually been aware there was a cheer team, though now that he looked around him, it seemed pretty obvious. He felt like the dumbest kid on the planet right now for not having put everything together immediately.
And to keep adding onto this humiliation conga, when he looked back at the black haired girl he finally realized how she knew his name, at last recognizing her. He'd even been to her birthday party. O-Oh, uhmmm...Y-You're Rowan...Right? He remained sitting on his bum, only half looking at the girl as he kept glancing toward the ground to avoid looking her in the eye. He vaguely remembered her name from the invitation she'd sent in the student chat, though at the party itself their talks had been limited and mostly encouragement about him being asocial. The story of his life. He'd look down at the ground again. I, uhh, never got too thank you for the party...It, uhhhh...It was fun. Of course he hadn't actually done really much of anything there. But still, he'd gone at least, and it was nice too see familiar faces since he didn't go out all too much. And as Rowan walked towards the two tables, offering him a cupcake before Jace could say anything his stomach betrayed him by growling again. I, uhmmm, I mean I guess...If it's really okay...Sorry... The shy, anxious boy apologized for nothing in particular while accepting her offering, finally picking himself off the floor to take a cupcake.
And while he sated his stomach with comfort food, the cupcakes being just as good as they'd looked, Rown asked him something he hadn't at all been prepared for. He choked on his delicious snack, coughing as he smacked his chest, trying to get air in his lungs at the offer to actually join a club. And when he finally had air again, he'd use it to vehemently deny the question.
N-No!! Not at all! Cough I was just...Just coming here for, umm, basketball or something... He blushed as he admitted his true motives. I-I didn't even know cheerleading tryouts were going on! His eyes would meet the floor again as he was silent for a moment, his urgency slowly replaced with melancholy. Someone like me would never be able to do something like that...Especially in front of other people...

Actually, Rowan had entered a little before she would say hello to Jace. She had been through a few things that made her cautious and react absolutely ridiculous, one of those moments was now. Softly opening the door and noticing someone she did not immediately recognize from behind made her stop in her steps. Who was this and what was going on? Surely a few seconds later, she did realize no villain or something like that would be able to just hop in the training facilities of U.A. so why should she be surprised? This was another student, and they probably came here for the tryout, a little late but well Rowan wasn't going to say no if that was the case. But when she finally took steps to get closer to the student, she did see a face profile that she did recognize, it took a bit but finally, the name jumped back in her mind: Jace. She had met Jace for the first time really on the pool party she gave and well here they were again. So she decided to step up and talk to the shy boy, she remembered that much. The squeak and the drop of the pom-pom said as much as well, including a jump and she held up her hands, flat in front of herself trying to look confident (she looked anything but) and a little hating on herself that she made him jump up so much. What was the best approach to tackle this? She decided to do as if she had seen nothing of it and pointed out the pom-pom and stating that they just finished try-outs. She put her hands now behind her back and smiled at Jace. Well, this was a great start... not.
She nodded when he said her name and tried to keep that small smile, hopefully giving up some friendly vibe, on her face. "Yes~" Not everyone was good at names, she had learned that already with a lot of people, so she wasn't even offended besides, he remembered in the end. She frowned a little and almost wanted to ask Jace, if it really was fun, she had been a hundred per cent convinced he had not liked it at all. Those conversations weren't good, so Rowan decided to just accept the thank you. "Glad to hear you liked it, I was a little nervous." She smiled, but in the end with everyone around it had been great. She thought about it, one day, she would organize a new one, so Sean could come along. Now that he was no longer in a coma, or maybe they could go together to such a swimming pool with all sorts of stuff to do like glides and the like.
Well time to break the ice now that Jace got up and got a cupcake. She ignored his apology and just asked him if he came for try-outs too. She put her hand in front of her mouth as he seemed to be choking on the cupcake because of her question and she did not really know what to do, when he took a big gulp of air, she remained quiet and looked a little scared and disappointed, the latter obviously to do with his answer, which was a no. She was also a little bit sad that he had no idea the tryouts were going on. She had put up little posters and the like, it was still so easy to miss then? "Hm, well we don't really perform much in front of people, and you did just make a really high jump, that would be interesting." She went to sit down on the ground, "Not all people aren't that scary." Some obviously were but not all of them, she wished she could do something for a shy person.
