UA HIGH SCHOOL INTRODUCTION TO HERO COMBAT CLASS 1-BIt was the first full day of a new school year. Just after noon; the sun beat down with ferocity on the grassy field that stretched across UA's Campus. In particular, a small collection of buildings and reinforced training facilities had been constructed slightly away from campus to allow students a bit of room to employ their quirks and test the limits of their abilities. It is on this very soil that the first generation of professionally trained heroes would be born, it is here that they would rise from fledglingsto greatness under the careful eye and instruction of that first generation of heroes who rose from vigilantism to stand as icons in our history. This is Ground Alpha.
At the center of Ground Alpha a lonely structure had been built over the Summer Vacation; an imposing three-tiered ziggurat made of iron, reinforced glass, and steel. Though it had an official name as designated by the government oversight committee; Training Facilitation Structure UA002; the teachers had come up with a different name for it. Fort Slog. Six stories tall, three hundred and sixty feet long and designed to be modular so that it can be tailored to specific difficulty levels; climbing to the top of the structure from the inside was the ultimate goal of those that entered.
It is before this gleaming building that the students of class 1-B found themselves that day; the sun's reflection sending its heat across the ground from the metal structure. Though their focus was not on the glinting walls; instead it was on the figure sitting atop the ledge of the first level, peering down at them through the slotted eyes of a horned, angry helm. The figure got to her feet, even from this distance it was clear that she was maybe little shorter than her armor made her look. She spread her arms wide in greeting. It looked like she'd been practicing this.
"Welcome, maggots! To your first day of Introduction to Hero Combat!" The woman in the armor called down to them. She leapt off the side and landed with a loud thud; getting to her feet from a crouch. She removed her helm revealing a pretty woman with bright green eyes and a mess of blonde hair. She looked to be not much older than most of them. She broke into a wide, toothy, and maybe a little manic smile. "Name's Taka Keiko, some of you kids might know me as the Pro Hero Aquitaine," She said setting down her helmet and placing her hands on her hips and scanned their faces.
"I'm your combat instructor for the year. Now I went over this with 1-A so we'll handle it the same way. I know most of you have already gone over the basics of your quirk with your Homeroom teacher, you've also probably done some rudimentary training. That's fine. This isn't remedial training. You made it into UA, you've gotta be at least competent," She said, crossing her arms behind her back and walking toward them, "So we're going to start off with a sprint. I wanna see what your current limits are; what's your real starting point?" She said before holding up her hands. "Keep your ideas to yourself for now, I wanna see it," She grinned and an odd purplish flame burst into life on her armored right hand.
"My quirk is called Heraldry!" She announced; "Once I touch you and you are within my range, your body will heal faster and your stamina will last longer. It will not reduce pain, it will not reduce stress that you put on your body. If I see that any of you are pushing too hard. You're done, you fail for the day. I won't have any idiots going out there and getting themselves killed because they can't keep their heads," She said firmly as she walked down the line, clapping each of them on the shoulder. A glowing medieval heraldic mark burst into life at the point of contact.
"Now for your task!" She cleared her throat, "In a few seconds a whole damn lot of spherical drones are gonna start coming out of god knows where," She laughed, "Smash one, one point; catch one, three points." She said. "Split into teams of two to three. Everyone needs at least a pair. You got thirty seconds to decide! Get your asses in gear MAGGOTS!" She shouted, clenching her fists as the sun beat on her armor; "Show me what you got, best team gets to take a shot at big nasty behind me...clear that? I have a reward in mind."
Rule are simple, you can OOCly decide on how you want to split up your groups. Post an initial post here. After everyone has posted I'll do one more response with your targets. After that, you can split up into your own threads to do as much as you like. Keiko-Sensei will be cutting in now and then to comment or intervene if necessary. You have seven posts each, afterward, her quirk will run out and time will be up. We'll do one more round of posts here after that wrapping things up. That's it!

Now they were on to hero combat... Luna couldn't exactly say she was the MOST confident in this field. While she took time to study and train in hand-to-hand combat it was a basic understanding at best, nothing fancy or powerful. Her Quirk had no inherent focus on power, so she would have to rely on her Quirk's raw speed and mobility to work together here. She softly swayed on her feet with her tail wagging slowly as she thought about trying to work with her new classmates, however.
The time then came for their instructor to slam down into the ground and introduce herself, Luna immediately swapping to an excited tail wag as she admired the cool armor-clad pro hero. As she explained the gist of what was going to happen, Luna just listened in intently trying to see what exactly they would have to do.
Each of them got touched on the shoulder after that, being marked by Aquitaine's quirk, causing Luna to look at her shoulder in awe. "Whooaaaa" she'd exclaim her tail wagging rapidly side to side as she watched it glow. She calmed down a moment later as the teacher cleared her throat, watching intently again even though her tail wouldn't stop moving on its own. Their task was to destroy drones... that didn't seem too bad, but if they were too durable it was likely that Luna wouldn't be able to do anything to them. Catching them was interesting though. She had speed and mobility on her side, perhaps it would be useful to grab as many drones as possible to succeed.
Then the hard part came, the teacher said they had to find groups of two-three. This caused Luna to flinch in shock. "Eh?!" she exclaimed before fidgeting around, looking between her peers. "Hmmm... who would work well..." the girl was now in deep thought. She had no idea who to group up with! And with only thirty seconds to spare there was no time to lose!

No more waiting, it was finally time to check the proverbial training wheels at the door. It was now time for the first lesson of the year – Ground Alpha seemed like the ideal place to just hang out in, drink with some friends, blast as much music as possible, get lost in, and then finally wake up outside afterwards in the cold morning, with no memory of what occurred before. But alas, that was not the purpose of today's exercise, as much as Sergey would love it to be. He was with his other classmates, waiting in front of the giant construct in front of them for what their first look into heroism teaching was all about, at least in a practical sense. The sun practically blinding him, it was not just the building's reflection that drew ire from the Soviet wonder. It was the figure planted directly on top of the building, one he thought was a mere statue: as it turned out, it was not a marble work of art, but rather a teacher – she was rather brash, speaking very candidly to such a group. Hinata had been like this as well, so it seemed that as fate would have it, every single teacher wanted to either kill them or break them beyond recognition. It was like being picked up into a random fight you had no choice to join, and with no help from your friends. In other words, Sergey's bread and butter. More excited than scared, the drunken boy listened attentively, smiling like a dope, ready to take on all comers. The main goal was to focus on their current limits, how much they could take, and how much they could dish out, with a little bit of help from Keiko's quirk. Seemed a bit of a handicap to her if she wanted them to just croak during the battle, but whatever, you take whatever's given to you, handouts are always the best. The actual task seemed to be a cinch as well, just beat up a bunch of drones or catch them, and it was a team exercise. Seemed a better way than any to get to know your classmates outside of sitting in a classroom, doing and having fun was a great social activity, like cooking. Plus, the winners would get a shot at climbing up the massive building she was on top of, and even better, was if they managed THAT, then there would surely be a prize of unlimited vodka, or perhaps sunflower seeds, maybe even a pristine, gold-laced tracksuit. “Is that all? Smash and grab robots, and climb up a big building? Easy as пирог, сука!* Now, who wants to team up with Komrade Kvass and break metal men in two? Luna, how about it, huh?” he said, calling out to Luna, the dog girl. A dog girl with enhanced senses would be able to track and find more of the drones faster, and then Sergey could pummel them or just catch them. Easy victory, easy task, and an easy way to get to know someone else in 1-B.
*Easy as pie, bitch!

Clearly, for someone of Nagi's nature, any class that has her sitting down on a desk and listen to a full lecture for an entire hour wasn't the kind of class that she was the most excited about, if even a little excited. The ones she was more eager to participate in were those involving the practical use of quirks. Those were truly the ones where she could properly shine, where she could make the perfect statement; through actions, not words.
Alongside her fellow classmates, they all made way inside one of U.A's training facilities; Ground Alpha. As they already had the chance for not only a tour, but also to freely explore the school themselves, the appearance of the wide open area itself wasn't anything new. But nonetheless, to finally have the chance to showcase her skills within such advanced grounds was a thrilling opportunity.
Stopping, staring up, then glancing down, Nagi attentively observed and listened to their combat instructor for the day in her introduction and further explaining of what was going down. The golden-eyed teen didn't demonstrate much of a reaction once Aquitaine approached her and seemingly planted a mark of sorts over her shoulder with her own quirk. With this, she didn't have to worry about getting herself in at least a bit of danger or to give out a little more of herself than normal.
Nagi smirked and crossed her arms confidently as they were told about today's activity; to catch or smash randomized drones. 'For an introduction, it sounds pretty easy.' She eagerly thought to herself. Whilst the requirement of teams didn't sit too well with her, the girl still had no choice in the matter and briefly glanced around at her fellow classmates. The slav and the dog were seemingly already teaming up, meaning her choices had diminished. But it was fine. Once she laid her golden gaze on who she thought was a perfect canditate to team up with her, the onyx-haired teen didn't hesitate to start an assertive walk towards such person.
"Oi, class prez. You're with me." Already having some decent knowledge of her classmates' quirks, even despite his obvious appearance, her pick ended up being Leon Collins himself, the dragon of the class. It wasn't hard for her to make this decision either. They both have highly mobile quirks, capable of being employed anywhere, be it on ground or air. Having to deal with moving objects should be a simple task for them.

This class was quite possibly the one class in the entire curriculum where Kiersa was more than likely to be at the lowest score for. Her Quirk isn't exactly a combat type and beyond the basic self-defence lessons from school prior to coming here, she has no skills as a fighter. That being said, when the armoured knight-like woman dropped down amidst them she couldn't help but feel a little bit awed. A Pro Hero who had a Quirk similar to her own was the combat instructor for the school!
The young blonde looked at her own hands as she considered the implications from this particular revelation, even as she felt Aquitaine pat her shoulder and her Heraldry Quirk begin to take effect. It felt similar to her own Healing Lights Quirk which made her wonder how the two healing Quirks would work when combined... but it definitely did a lot more than her Quirk could at the moment.
This training session though called for partners to take on a bunch of drones. Whoever she was partnered with for this... they'd probably wind up doing most of the heavy lifting as it were, whilst she provided support. The question now though was who would partner with her? But she was definitely going to ask Miss Keiko a bunch of questions after this combat training regarding fighting styles and training whilst having a Healing Quirk.

Post by Kaga Ohma on Apr 9, 2020 15:35:13 GMT -4
Kaga looked around the field and the large structure in front of them, having a good idea of what was going on he was proven right when a voice called out to them. Looking up he spotted the hero known as Aquataine in her armor, she leaped down and Kaga listened as she went on about their assignment. While his ears listened his eyes however moved from location to location, sizing up everything and everyone around him. His class mates quirks came to mind but in this task his quirk would be suited more for capture than anything, so instead he needed someone who could direct him without getting in the way. Leon and Nagi were more mobile meaning they would be after the machines so they were out, Luna had good senses but she was mobile on the ground and would get in his way so she was out, Sergay…. just no.
He had been looking forward to this part of training since he was a teen, able to use his quirk as much as he wanted without getting into trouble and now that time had come. But for now he needed to focus on a team mate rather than his own thoughts. "Kiersa, if you don't have a partner join me." The girl didn't have the best quirk for this kind of stuff so she would need a front man to handle the attacking and capturing, in return he could leave it to her to focus on where the drones would be and direct him. Not usually into taking orders as he had his own analytical skills to fall back on, that and his tactical awareness. But for now it was better to work with and help someone at the same time.
Kaga turned his head as the hero placed her quirk on him, boosting his already high stamina even more. "Thanks, Ma'am." He turned to the blonde girl with his friendly smile and held out a hand. "Shall we capture points?"

Diego felt empowered under the bombardment of solar rays within Ground Alpha, standing quite a distance from the rest of the class. He removed his sunglasses for the first time that day, placing them on his forehead which revealed his dirt colored eyes. The sun was where he got his power, the very nature of his quirk being to harness the raw energy from the big ball of fire and gas in the sky and use it to make his constructs. Wonderful.
A grin was smeared across the foreign student’s face as he looked down to his ring which was shining as bright as ever, brimming with energy. He made a fist, placing it into his opposite palm as he let out a small burst of light that was noticeable but not at all harmful. He did so simply to test how he was feeling (not to mention to be a bit of a show off) and according to the results, he was feeling pretty damn great.
That wasn’t even mentioning that this woman was boosting everyone’s stamina, Diego’s own stamina already being pretty high, and on top of all this he finally got to do his favorite thing in the world: fight! He felt incredibly energized and thus was put in a great mood. In fact, he was in such a good mood now that he had no qualms having to work with these less than adequate classmates of his. He observed the others get into their own pairs fairly quickly.
Nagi and Leon, they both had some pretty animalistic and thus mobile quirks but neither of them would suit to compliment Diego’s own shine or style. Despite his bad boy exterior, Diego did indeed have battle smarts, especially since he’d been in so many fights throughout his life. He then turned his attention to the next pair which was Sergey and Luna. No. The dog girl was whatever, but the drunkard pissed him off anytime he spoke, always yelling in Russian. It was beyond annoying.
That left Kaga and Kiersa, who ultimately seemed to be his best choice. Arrogant in his very stride, he stopped in front of the pair and bluntly stated, ”You two are teaming up with me, you got that? You’ve been personally chosen by your…VP.” Diego did hate that he had to deal with such responsibility (even though he voted for himself, thinking it was just a title and nothing more, as that was how it usually worked in american schools) but on the plus side it did give him some credibility. He tried to make it as clear as possible through his next words, specifically the tone behind them that he wasn’t really giving them a choice, as he finalized his decision with a cocky, ”Neither of you better disappoint me!! Otherwise these drones won’t be your only issue.”

Leon rolled his shoulders under the warm sunlight on ground Alpha as he stretched, clad in his U.A. exercise uniform. He spread his wings out to their maximum extents, feeling the wind catch in his leathery sails. It was a nice day to be outside. Of course they weren't here to enjoy the pleasant weather. They were here to train--a fact that their teacher was quick to remind them of. Leon withdrew his wings and gave the teacher his full attention as she spoke.
The teacher--Taka Keiko--wanted to see what their limits were...and planned to give them the means to operate at their limits for an extended period of time. A handy quirk for a pro hero to have. Leon made a note to look up Aquitaine's feats online later. One more pro to add to the list. As she touched his shoulder, marking him with her Quirk, Leon could feel the energy spreading out from the mark. It was quite a rush, like adrenaline on steroids. He tensed his muscles and flexed his claws. This was going to be quite an experience.
Sensei Keiko went on to explain the exercise. It sounded simple, just bashing some drones...too simple. Which is why Leon knew there had to be more to it. And the chance at some more advanced training as the reward was more than enough to get him focused. But he needed a teammate. Someone whose Quirk would complement his. Leon scanned his classmates, although the problem quickly solved itself.
"Oi, class prez. You're with me."
Leon looked over at Nagi. Or a wingman...winggirl...wingperson? Screw it, teammate. Leon still wasn't sure how he'd managed to get voted Class President...but he had. Was he that intimidating? He could dwell on that later. This team up could very much work. It wasn't really a diverse team in terms of combining Quirks, but they should both be able to play to their strengths without the need for complex coordination. Their airborne mobility would be their big advantage. "Sure thing. But call me Drake," he said, stretching out his wings. "Stay on your toes though. I doubt it'll be as simple as it sounds."

1-B struck her as just a bit more confident than 1-A for some reason. Keiko tilted her head and squinted thoughtfully as they scattered, moving to arrange their teams. The first one to make any move was Luna Mishima who stared in awe at the Heraldric Mark, Keiko let that feed her ego...a little. the girl had a mutation that gave her the physical capabilities of a dog. She has incredible senses, speed, and mobility; a good thing too. There were a few potential rookies from the latest batch of vigilantes who had demonstrated animal-type mutation quirks and had proven to be incredible in the field exams. Luna here had some serious potential if she was like them. Best to keep an eye out. Sergey called out to her from the side and the two met in the middle; a Russian who had transferred to UA. His body produces liquor, a strange and almost dangerous quirk even to himself. He was a fine example how homeland influenced one's quirk though and his attitude was jolly enough that she appreciated his temperament. She'd wait and see how he performed.
Nagi Uehara was next; she was small and slight in figure but she made up with her quirk. She could transform quite literally into a legendary and mythical beast from south America. Very curious. Her abilities gave her a lot of flexibility but Keiko wondered if an alteration in size would influence the outcome here. She tilted her head and watched her team up with the class president, Leon Collins. Leon had a subdued look about him; he must enjoy the outside. His tense observation of the exam was heartening too. Though it seemed like he was hesitant to join forces with her. On the contrary; two fliers might be key to doing well here; they could control the sky and score many points. But that also meant more blind spots for them to get struck. She wondered which of the two of them would tap out first...
Her eyes flicked to the trio that remained. Kiersa Bec was a little starstruck like Kenji had been an hour ago. She had a naieve look about herself. Her quirk was a healing quirk like her own but it required her to focus on a particular person or target. She could generate light which might help in stunning a few of them, but it was her apparent enhanced senses that would be most helpful. The drones made a distinct sound. Keiko resisted the urge to coach them. She needed to see them without influence first. Kaga Ohma was the next; he had a very potent quirk, 'Transmutation'. Allowing him to manipulate materials and structures and repurposing them. She only hoped he kept it to the dirt and substrate beneath it. She expected someone with such a versatile quirk to have a bit more ego but his politeness actually was endearing. She smiled at him before looking at the last; Diego. Diego's quirk allowed him to create constructs out of solar energy. He was the person to watch for this particular exam given how bright out it was. He'd be at his absolute maximum. The only downside was his ego. She smirked and checked her watch.
Thirty seconds.
Keiko cleared her and looked at the gathered students; "From the looks of it you lot have your act together, good. Like I mentioned before; Destroy a Drone, one point. Catch one for Three. Now I'm sure you're all very excited to meet your targets, so lets get that party started..." She let out a breath and drew her sword, pointing it to the ground and slamming it into the earth once, twice, three times. A low tone sounded off somewhere in the distance followed by a voice that was barely audible.
"...sting init...swarm...rns...laun..." the distant automated voice called.
Keiko grinned, tilting her head to the right and stared at the space behind her students.
If they turned around, they would see hundreds, maybe even a thousand small silver spherical objects hurtling through the air at them at high speed. The machines were held aloft by some unseen force and had only a single eye to help them discern their surroundings. Barely larger than a softball each of them frantically charged toward the students. They moved as one huge swarm.
"...BEGIN!" Keiko barked and started to laugh as the drones hurtled on a collision course with the students.
