UA HIGH SCHOOL INTRODUCTION TO HERO COMBAT CLASS 1-AIt was the first full day of a new school year. The sun beat down hard on the grassy field that stretched across UA's Campus. In particular, a small collection of buildings and reinforced training facilities had been constructed slightly away from campus to allow students a bit of room to employ their quirks and test the limits of their abilities. It is on this very soil that the first generation of professionally trained heroes would be born, it is here that they would rise from fledgelings to greatness under the careful eye and instruction of that first generation of heroes who rose from vigilantism to stand as icons in our history. This is Ground Alpha.
At the center of Ground Alpha a lonely structure had been built over the Summer Vacation; an imposing three-tiered ziggurat made of iron, reinforced glass, and steel. Though it had an official name as designated by the government oversight committee; Training Facilitation Structure UA002; the teachers had come up with a different name for it. Fort Slog. Six stories tall, three hundred and sixty feet long and designed to be modular so that it can be tailored to specific difficulty levels; climbing to the top of the structure from the inside was the ultimate goal of those that entered.
It is before this gleaming building that the students of class 1-A found themselves that day; the sun's reflection sending its heat across the ground from the metal structure. Though their focus was not on the glinting walls; instead it was on the figure sitting atop the ledge of the first level, peering down at them through the slotted eyes of a horned, angry helm. The figure got to her feet, even from this distance it was clear that she was maybe little shorter than her armor made her look. She spread her arms wide in greeting.
"Welcome, maggots! To your first day of Introduction to Hero Combat!" The woman in the armor called down to them. She leapt off the side and landed with a loud thud; getting to her feet from a crouch. She removed her helm revealing a pretty woman with bright green eyes and a mess of blonde hair. She looked to be not much older than most of them. She broke into a wide, toothy, and maybe a little manic smile. "Name's Taka Keiko, some of you kids might know me as the Pro Hero Aquitaine," She said setting down her helmet and placing her hands on her hips and scanned their faces.
"I'll be your instructor for the foreseeable future. Now I know most of you have already gone over the basics of your quirk with your Homeroom teacher, you've also probably done some rudimentary training. That's fine. I'm not gonna sweat the baby-basics with you lot. You made it into UA, you've gotta be at least competent," She said, crossing her arms behind her back and walking toward them, "So we're going to start off running rather than walking. I wanna see what your current limits are; what's your real starting point?" She said before holding up her hands. "No no, don't tell me. I want to see it, and that means pushing you to your limits..." She grinned and an odd purplish flame burst into life on her armored right hand.
"My quirk is called Heraldry!" She announced; "Once I touch you and you are within my range, your body will heal faster and your stamina will last longer. It will not reduce pain, it will not reduce stress that you put on your body. If I see that any of you are pushing too hard. You're done, you fail for the day. I won't have any idiots going out there and getting themselves killed because they can't keep their heads," She said firmly as she walked down the line, clapping each of them on the shoulder. A glowing medieval heraldic mark burst into life at the point of contact.
"Now for your task!" She cleared her throat, "In a few seconds a whole damn lot of spherical drones are gonna start coming out of god knows where," She laughed, "Smash one, one point; catch one, three points." She said. "Split into teams of two to three. Everyone needs at least a pair. You got thirty seconds to decide! Get your asses in gear MAGGOTS!" She shouted, clenching her fists as the sun beat on her armor; "Show me what you got, best team gets to take a shot at big nasty behind me...clear that? I have a reward in mind."
Rule are simple, you can OOCly decide on how you want to split up your groups. Post an initial post here. After everyone has posted I'll do one more response with your targets. After that, you can split up into your own threads to do as much as you like. Keiko-Sensei will be cutting in now and then to comment or intervene if necessary. You have seven posts each, afterward, her quirk will run out and time will be up. We'll do one more round of posts here after that wrapping things up. That's it!

Finally, it was time for combat training. This is what Eddy had really always been looking forward to getting out of UA. He knew that some of his classmates, including Burabura, were looking to be rescue Heroes rather than anything combat-focused, and while that was certainly a noble cause, Edward's goal was to stamp out Villains and Vigilantes, to do that, he would need more combat training than some self-taught boxing. His grasp on his Quirk was still tenuous at best, but he knew that he should be able to show some mastery over it, especially given that he was now 1-A's class president.
Edward and the rest of the class gathered outside an odd fortress of sorts in their gym uniforms as they had been instructed. Eddy in particular still wore his scarf but had replaced his large glasses with slightly smaller goggles. He wondered if they would be going inside for this training session, but it seemed that their instructor had other plans. The admittedly intimidating young woman leaped down to them from upon the structure and introduced herself, explaining that they would be grouped up and challenged to either destroy or capture spherical combat drones for points and that the winning team would be allowed to take a crack at the ziggurat behind her. It must be important then. He figured that they would likely be revisiting it later in the year, so he wasn't sweating it too much, even with the promise of a prize. He doubted it would be something that actually interested him unless it was something that would forward him toward his goal of becoming a Hero. Still, the chance to get some additional training in that fort interested him.
Aside from the goals that their instructor had set out, Edward had something else he would like to get out of this exercise. Once she, rather crudely, told the students to form their pair or group within the next thirty seconds, Edward made a beeline for his Vice President, quickly placing a hand on her shoulder. "Misako-San, I believe it would behoove us as our class' representatives to take this opportunity for some team-building. We will want to be able to work cohesively if we hope to keep this rowdy bunch in-line, after all." Though they had only been given their positions fairly recently, Edward clearly took it very, very seriously.
"I feel that the strategy is simple." Edward didn't even wait for Misa's response before he started talking about how they would tackle this challenge. They didn't have long before it began, after all. "First thing we do is figure out how to disable the drones without destroying them, then we split and capture as many on our own as possible before pooling them back together for the maximum amount of points with the least amount of trouble." Edward was likely overestimating both his own and Misako's skills here, but to his credit, he had no idea what these spheres would actually be like, so all he could do was make assumptions.

come on, let's go! THE REDHEAD WAS INFINITELY MORE PREPARED for combat training than he had been for homeroom—fighting was something he was familiar with, albeit it was not his strongest suit. Despite his mental preparedness, his expression was still somewhat star-struck as it took-in the glimmering building, which looked like it could’ve been transplanted from downtown, and the armor-clad woman who was perched atop the first-floor ledge.
Kenji followed the pro-hero scene pretty religiously, so he knew of Aquatine—wow, Aquatine was really here, teaching this class, in the flesh. She greeted them, and Kenji regarded her with barely-contained excitement, his hazel eyes bright, and his lips curled in a nervous smile. Wah, this was so cool! She was so cool!
She started to ask them “what their current limits were” and Kenji, sensing an opportunity to show-off, hastily rose his hand. With the “no, no”, he sheepishly lowered his hand. Oh, right. Show her in the class itself.
Kenji watched and waited as she moved down the line, fidgeting impatiently. He was garbed in little more than his P.E. uniform—much like many of the other first years—his outfit was comprised of the blue jumpsuit that was standard-issue for the school, his beat-up old sneakers, and a headband (to keep the bangs from his eyes). He didn’t look like much! But that meant that he and his partner had to do extra well.
He tried to psychically communicate that to Taka-sensei as she clapped her hand upon his shoulder, but the boy was too dumbfounded to say anything. Besides which, she was still talking, it’d be rude to interrupt. Push himself hard, but not too hard, seemed easy enough.
Having worked her way down the line, the woman announced the objective of the lesson. Destroy, or capture, the drones. Winners got to take-on the tower, whatever that meant. Clearly, Kenji wanted to be the best. Duh!
But… who to team-up with… not a girl. Girls were scary. Not Eddy, Eddy was a jerk. That only really left, like, two people. Burabura was a clear option because Bura was, in Kenji’s book, really cool. But Burabura was already talking to some girl. Goddamn. That left…
“Oi, Rei!” Kenji called-out, jogging towards the taller boy and waving his hand to snag his attention, “You wanna be teammates?!”
Kenji would keep his hand elevated until he was within range, clearly expecting some sort of high-five as acknowledgement of their joining of forces.
“I have… kind-of… an idea. Like the beginnings of one,” Kenji said hurriedly, “I don’t have the brute strength to smash drones, I don’t think… not quickly anyways. But like, here, watch this—“
He held out his arms, and they crackled with a pink aura, “This… uh, these are sticky sleeves, they make me adhere to things. I could probably, uh, stick to the drones. And that’ll help us catch them!”
And besides which, catching them was more points, anyways.
“Wh-what do you think? How could we, uh… join forces?”
His jitteriness hadn’t really dissipated, even with his attention on someone other than Taka-sensei. Kenji just… really wanted to do well. To prove himself, you know? And this was his first chance. As such, he spoke a bit hurriedly, and seemed to reverberate with energy.

Hot... that was the first thing she thought of when she stepped outside. It was an unusually hot day, and that was bad for her, when her body was already working harder than some just to stand.. And then she was gonna be fighting, too... she was already dreading this exercise of stupidity, but despite her annoyance and frustration, Michi just stared forward, waiting in line just like everyone else, despite the fact that the sun reflecting off of the giant pyramid in front of her made her feel even hotter.
She turned her head to see the pro hero that was going to be instructing them in this lesson that she very much didn't want to have, and she almost quirked a brow. She had an almost manic grin as she introduced herself, something that gave her a small bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, especially when she didn't seem that much older than them, but Michi's worry was mostly taken care of when she takened, where she seemed less manic and more energetic, which wasn't much better, honestly.
Michi almost sighed at the mention of the training; yes, she remembered this, and she had already been critizied for her lack of combat skill. Why on Earth would she know how to fight? It wasn't like she came in off the streets or anything, but apparently what little knowledge she had - amounting to little more than copying what she saw on TV - was more than they had expected of her. The mention of touching brought her out of this train of thought, and she winced, nearly groaning; she hated being touched, even just slightly, but she was going to have to bear through it, steeling herself and grunting slightly at the smack to her shoulder, not noticing the marking that had appeared there, too distracted by the unpleasant feeling and rolling her shoulder slightly.
Taking a deep breath, she sighed, already lamenting the task ahead of them, but she didn't even bother to move; everyone clamored around her to try to find a partner, but she just waited. She honestly did not care; either someone would approach her, or the teacher would tell someone to be her partner, and either way was just fine when the alternative was spending more energy than was worth the task. She just kept staring in front of her, still kind of judging the pyramid in front of them.

Bura was excited about this lesson. The first time he gets to go all out with his quirk. While Bura isn't aiming to go all out as a combative Pro-hero learning his combat capability would help him out in learning his quirk's limitations and strength. Bura's excitement was evident on his face with a broad grin and a readied stance. Bura's training has been theory and practice never used for real except for once. And that wasn't a fair fight. Bura was hyped, especially with who's teaching the class. A one Aquitaine. Bura was thrilled to be trained by her. His giddiness was barely restrained.
Here Bura was outside with his classmates outside a fortress looking building. Bura was in a blue and white gym uniform that thankfully covered his body and only outlined his dense musculature through the fabric. Despite being one of the youngest students in the class, he was built like a brick house. His enormous mess of white wool hangs down low and free prepared to fluff up for the combat training. The teacher introduced herself as Taka Keiko or as he knew her by, the pro-hero Aquitaine, and she spoke roughly, but it motivated him even more to prove himself. When the woman said that the winner gets to combat the giant robot behind her, Bura let out a huff from his nose that was visible even in the spring weather.
When the woman said it was time to group up, Bura looked around quickly for a teammate, but before he could even respond he felt some weight in his wool not much, but enough to be noticeable, Bura let out an excited smile and an airy chuckle, looks like his partner chose him. Bura spoke up in an excited voice and said, "I take it that's you Prism-chan in there, Looks like we will be partners for this, let's do this!" Bura said as he figured it was Prism, the girl took a special interest in him, and she loved his wool, so this wasn't a shock at all to him, and he was excited to see what the girl was capable of. "You ready, Prism-chan, I know I am!" Bura said excitedly to the girl still in his wool.

now, this is Rei's speed! Being outside in the nice hot weather and getting ready for some sort of physical activity was his bread and butter. Wildheart hadn't explained much except for telling the class to go show up at Ground Alpha and everything would be clear. What the heck was Ground Alpha anyways? He probably should have paid more attention to the map of campus he was given.[break][break]
Regardless of his ignorance, he wouldn't have to wait long as he and the rest of his classmates approached a monolithic structure that was...well it was hella impressive. Rei let out a whistle as he scanned it up and down and was about to address some of the class when a visitor jumped down in front of them. She proceeded to explain what she was doing there and what they were going to be doing as a group. Rei was a bit distracted by the structure behind them and was about to ask a question before the Pro Hero mentioned that she wanted to see their potential and not just hear about it which essentially shut down what he was going to ask. [break][break]
She then talked about the point of the combat exercise and that not only would they need to form teams, but the best team would earn the right to challenge whatever the heck that structure was behind them. Not that he was against working as a team Rei looked around to see which would be the best partner for him. Burabura? Good at smashing probably not too great at capturing. Misa? She would be excellent for capturing, but she probably wouldn't be able to keep up with him. Yamazaki, however, did have a compatible quirk with his own and from what he knew about her she could be great on offense. He scratched his chin as he weighed the pros and cons of his options and before he could reach out to Michi, he was interrupted by Kenji calling out to him suggesting that they team up.[break][break]
Flashing his classmate a toothy smile he gave him a high five in return. "Heck yeah! Let's do this! you can do stuff with friction, yeah?" he remembered a brief explanation during the classes meet and greet and this was further solidified by Kenji demonstrating that he could basically stick to anything with his quirk. "I do have an idea! but I think we should add Yamazaki to our team first. If this capture strategy doesn't work, we'll need some real firepower and it looks like most of the heavy hitters are already taken." he gestured towards Burabura and Edward. Even if Kenji wasn't sure about it he would still go ahead and reach out to Yamazaki "Oi! Yamazaki you wanna team up with us?" he waved trying to get her attention as it looked like she was just spacing out and staring at the structure in front of them.

Post by Misako Suzuki on Apr 10, 2020 8:37:53 GMT -4
Misa was a bit nervous about the combat training that they were told would be today. Though, for once, the nerves she had seemed to be a bit offset by the fact that she was honestly excited to see what she could do. How she could compare to the rest of the class. She was very curious, and hoped that she wouldn't under perform. So, after changing into her gym uniform that felt just a little cramped for her and her power so she rolled the sleeves up as high as they could go and even rolled the pant legs up just a bit to show off her ankles, she walked towards the front to the field. Her impression of the field was rather high! It clearly had a lot of work put into it, which made her think that whatever the training would be there would be a high production quality. Even if the Fort was a bit intimidating.
It didn't take long to become obvious that the fort wasn't even nearly the most intimidating part of the training as the instructor appeared and quickly went into drill sergeant mode. Misa stayed strong, keeping her face stony and only subtly shifting her weight from foot to foot as they were screamed at and called names and such. If this was the worst part of the training, then she had a feeling that she could handle this with ease. That said, as the objectives were explained Misa nodded along and realized that this was not going to be such a cakewalk. Not at all. To top it off, they only had thirty seconds to form a team!
Misa had a moment of panic, trying to decide who she should ask. She knew a few people, should she ask them? Maybe it would be better to meet someone new though. Just as she had the idea to ask the president to be her partner, her shoulder was tapped and she spun around to face him. She smiled wide as he spoke, nodding along. "I was just thinking the same thing, Edward! We should learn how to work with each other well. Please, call me Misa though!"
Eddy was clearly taking the job seriously, which the girl appreciated. His plan made her hesitate a bit. It would be fast, yeah, but... was it the safest idea? She wasn't sure what the spheres were capable of or even what Eddy was capable of himself. "Well, maybe for the start we should stick together? See what they're made of. Uhm, as for capturing them... I can make a prison with my quirk. I could make a pretty big one, but if I do it makes it harder for me to use my quirk to attack them."
She wasn't sure what Eddy's quirk was, but she had a feeling it was something brute force-like. Was it rude to assume that based on his appearance? Something about the unkempt hair and icy eyes just made her assume that he was a strong physical fighter. "I guess I'm trying to say that if they are hard to fight alone, we could try to work together and lure them into a trap that I can set. I can also fly, which keeps me mobile. I could build a cage and we can go out separately to try to lure as many back as we can, too!"

Prism first combat class, she was not too interested in fighting, through she did not mind having some playtime in her mind. All the studying she was doing in her dorm room was growing tiring, she just wanted some time to relax. She listened to the woman, a little confused why she was calling them such a tasty snack 'maggots'. 'I could go for some maggots right now', she thought to herself as she salivated a bit and slurped up her spit and shook her head. She took the chameleon side of herself very strongly. 'Pairs, huh?', she thought to herself briefly and looked around to see that the giant bull guy was still alone.
Gidly, she started moving towards him with the little hoppity step that she had usually and jumped onto his back; surprisingly and unsurprisingly he barely moved as dived into his fluff. "Hello, fluffy one! Team!", she said with her broken Japanese and grinned and looked up back at the woman waiting for a start. She tilted her head and her eyes began to seem to fly all over again, waiting for the drones to appear with her close to 360-eyesight shouldn't be that hard after all.

Keiko watched them scramble for their groups. The class representatives were the first to team up. She crossed her arms behind her back and stood like a statue; staring at each of them without a flinch of expression. Edward Eckles' quirk was Yeti Form giving him the ability to transform into a cryptid. Initial details listed him as being tough, strong, and has one hell of a reach. A huge transformation. He seemed stiff and a bit stuffy to be honest; she'd loosen him up a little. She glanced over at his partner; Misako. Misako Suzuki had a robust quirk following the line of material manipulators that were becoming more and more commonplace in recent years. Her son included among them. Misako's quirk took it a step further, her entire body being composed of paper. This... obviously gave her a weakness to fire. But there were some perks too; she could fly for one which was a huge advantage. She could move but Keiko wondered if she'd be to pin down a target properly. Misako's face was stony and from the pose of her shoulders she seemed like she could handle the berating. Good. Keiko honestly preferred to shift away from "drill sergeant" as soon as possible. She liked things like her relationship with the Third Years better.
Green eyes flitted over to Kenji, Kenji Murano had already declared his hero name as "Slapdash" and had the enviable ability to manipulate friction. The manipulation was quite visible which was a detriment in its own right but there were ways he could take advantage of it. Kenji was... excited to say the absolute least. Starry eyed. Oh boy. She restrained a grin, a fan. Fortunately that also meant he wouldn't ask the frustrating question "Why aren't you in the hero rankings?" most of her fans knew the answer to that. She was support and never intended to be a symbol or a public face. "A knights duty was to fight, not flaunt." She mused quietly on the implications of his quirk while looking to his partner; Rei Ledo. Rei's quirk was named King's Burden, which amused the hell out of the knightly hero. More so that she wondered who it was that had really come up with the name. Regardless; his quirk allows him to manipulate the weight of objects that, of course, was a potent ability if used correctly. If managed poorly it would do nothing but hamper him though. That said... his eyes showed something else. He appeared distracted as he looked at his peers, but he was analyzing them. Curious. She'd watch him. The third member of their group was Michi Yamazaki, Quirk: Skeleton of Steel. Keiko tilted her head, eyeing the girl. Another quirk user with an evolved bone structure. The girl was tough, strong, and had a healing factor of all things. It was as if she'd had a third kid with her husband she didn't know about. She restrained herself there; watching the girl objectively and trying not to project expectations. The girl obviously did not want to be there.
The last two were Burabura Buraburu, one hell of a name on that kid. And one hell of a frame too. Bura's quirk was simply: "Bull" and it showed. Incredibly strong and imposing with a rather familiar look about him. She tilted her head and smiled a little fondly despite her attempts to hold up her angry persona. Clearing her throat she looked over at Prism. Prism Laverna was the last and certainly most eccentric of class 1-A. Her entire body seemed indistinct and almost everchanging. It was like she couldn't restrain herself. Her quirk was called "Chameleon". Curious. From the sound of it she had a rather potent and versatile quirk. Keiko was eager to see her work.
Thirty seconds.
Keiko cleared her and looked at the gathered students; "From the looks of it you lot have your act together, good. Like I mentioned before; Destroy a Drone, one point. Catch one for Three. Now I'm sure you're all very excited to meet your targets, so lets get that party started..." She let out a breath and drew her sword, pointing it to the ground and slamming it into the earth once, twice, three times. A low tone sounded off somewhere in the distance followed by a voice that was barely audible.
"...sting init...swarm...rns...laun..." the distant automated voice called.
Keiko grinned, tilting her head to the right and stared at the space behind her students.
If they turned around, they would see hundreds, maybe even a thousand small silver spherical objects hurtling through the air at them at high speed. The machines were held aloft by some unseen force and had only a single eye to help them discern their surroundings. Barely larger than a softball each of them frantically charged toward the students. They moved as one huge swarm.
"...BEGIN!" Keiko barked and started to laugh as the drones hurtled on a collision course with the students.
