It had been quite a busy time for the Principal of the hero academy. Although he was not prone to show it, there was a certain unease within him. First there was the revelation of Nick Cross, an expelled student who had infiltrated the academy under orders of a secretive villain organization. then there was the troubled student Maximillian who had been mutually expelled due to the signs of increasing violence toward his peers and even a psychopathic hatred for non-Quirkers. Two troubling students, and now a third student had left, and in his opinion the circumstances behind her departure was the most worrisome among them all. Elise von Eisenberg, she had been a student he had been personally invested in, one might even say she was akin to family, and it was for that reason that he had accepted her request for help. She had left the academy on a positive note, on the surface it sounded like she was merely leaving to pursue a career in the Public Safety Commission, but the truth was quite a lot darker than such. The girl had left in order to pursue the one responsible for her mentor's death, the former disciplinary teacher of the school: Spymaster.
The knowledge that a spy was lurking in the Hero Oversight program was worrying to say the least, and with his position, it was difficult to make any drastic movements out of concern that the spy might take notice and escape. The plutocracy truly was a daunting and dangerous enemy. With one hand holding his cellphone and the other seemingly scribing something on a piece of paper, he spoke calmly. "I will try to look at it from my side also, good work so far. Stay safe, I'll contact you when I get more information." Hanging up the phone he frowned and looked back at the paper.
As part of the increased security measures the school had started to run background investigations into their students, usually it was the receptionist Hatsumomo who handled such matters, but there was a particular pair of siblings that required him to talk to them himself. The Haymaker siblings, one could only guess whether they were here truly to walk the path of a hero, or if they were here because of their father's influence...
Looking at the watch of his phone the man pocketed the device and returned the paper sheet into the brown map on his desk, for now, his new students would arrive any moment now. Whether they knocked on the door, like proper etiquette would demand, or would just enter without any warning, the man's stern voice would resound from within the office. "Enter." The office seemed like the typical office one might expect from a principal, albeit it looked a bit more plain and less decorated, as if every piece of furniture had a purpose, no needless decorations, all work and businesslike, just as one might expect from a trained soldier who had once been in the military.

"Mizuki, there is no need to worry." Desmoshi had just let the secretary know that they had an appointment with Principal Kobayashi, who was notifying the principal. "It's still the first day of school, and nothing bad has happened yet. I pretty sure the principal is different from the other ones we had." Mizuki turned to her brother with a stern look and said, "But he has records on us. Our records. And let's be honest- we haven't been doing to well in the school department." Demoshi retorted, "But to no fault of our own. Back then, we were around people who didn't like quirkers. And on top of that, we had to defend ourselves against bullies. Here, we don't have to worry about all that. We can be ourselves... as long as well follow the rules," Desmoshi added.
The secretary had came back to let them know that the Principal was ready for their meeting. Desmoshi was confident that they would start of with the principal on good terms. But he had his worries. How much did this principal know about them? Did he know about the time Desmoshi got expelled for the time he cracked a bully's jaw with a stone fist? Or the time that Mizuki flooded the bathroom by accidentwith her tears alone? Or how about the time he was five and set the slide on fire? Or worse... did the principal know about their father?
Most people knew his father, Jokai, as a professional boxer trying to reach the world stage. Although he was only known locally and through some parts of the U.S, he was a pro with an undefeated record. But not many knew of his secret lifestyle. Only his family knew that part about Jokai. Secretly he was the quirker vigilante, King of Fists, taking on small time thugs to make it easier for pro heroes to take on the bigger ones. However, it was illegal and the family has been begging him to get out of it before he ended dead or jailed. They told him to just focus on his boxing career and retire with his kids taking on the mantle. His response was always the same, saying until peace is obtained then he would not stop.
But his children had a counteroffer. Desmoshi and Mizuki stated if they could become licensed as heroes within three years, then he would have to retire for good and focus on his boxing career. Their father accepted the terms with a heavy sigh. However, Desmoshi wasn't just here for that. He was here to become a hero on his own merit, not his family name. He wanted to show the world that the quirkers can live in harmony with non-quirkers without any violence needed. He knew that the feat was too high to obtain, but he would give it his best shot.
The secretary directed them to the door of the office, which Desmoshi gave a firm knock on. When he heard the word "Enter", Desmoshi opened the door for his sister and he followed behind, shutting the door. Him and his sister stood side by side in front of the desk. The office seem to be plain and very businesslike as far as its atmosphere. And the principal wore a stern look on his face, making it hard for either twin to tell he was thinking. Both twins were nervous and did their best to not show it.
The twins took a bow, to show respect as per their own custom, as Desmoshi spoke. "Thank you for meeting us on such short notice, Principal Kobayashi." He stood back up straight along with his sister and continued. "I am Desmoshi Haymaker. And this is my sister, Mizuki. We know that you have a lot to do, so we won't keep you too long. We came to see what we needed to do to catch up before the end of the year along with other questions if you have the time." Desmoshi waited nervously for his response.

"No need to thank me Desmoshi-san" He nodded his head curtly at the young man who seemingly had chosen to take the initiative in the conversation. "As the principal of this academy it is both my duty and responsibility to help ensure the safety and growth of my students, so a meeting like this is just a natural part of the work." Calm, his voice was calm and in a way it was truly difficult to imagine what might had been going through the man's mind. He gestured lightly at the two chairs in front of his desk. "Please take a seat Haymaker siblings." As he waited for them to take a seat, he listened to Desmoshi's words. The question was a simple enough one, the type he had heard quite a few times before. How would they be able to gain the strength to catch up with their peers?
"That is a difficult question to answer Desmoshi-san." He began, leaning back slightly in his seat as he resumed his explanation. "At this academy there are students from all sorts of walks of life. Some might have been your ordinary everyday student with a Quirk, others might had been the type who survived on the streets in a environment where they had to fight every day just to have something to eat. Then you might have students who were prodigious academical students who enrolled into this academy for various reasons."
He went quiet for a moment, realizing his explanation might had been a bit tough for the siblings to take in. "A lot of your peers tend to make that mistake, they see their education as a singular horizontal line of strength, but strength is not the only thing a hero needs. Certainly, it is an important asset for a hero to possess, especially those who enter the battlefield and fight villains, but what I am trying to explain here is that every student is different from the other, even among you siblings there are certain aspects that might be different, from your Quirks to your personalities or way of fighting, correct?"
Hoping he had successfully conveyed the message he intended to give them, he soon started to give them the answer they sought. "It would be more beneficial to look at your strong points and your vulnerabilities. Learn what you are good at, and figure out how to excel further into those, and learn to find ways to reduce or cover your weaknesses."
He paused for a bit, leaning a bit forward, his arms resting on the desk as he continued. "In terms of how to find those things, and develop a proper training program for it, I would recommend seeking out your homeroom teacher for advice."
With that said, his gaze shifted from one sibling to the other. "Now for my part, I don't see any complications yet that need to be addressed. Yes, there might had been certain... 'incidents' in your past, they are in the past and from what your reports state, you both seem to have been able to stay out of trouble since your enrollment, so keep up the good work."
There was a subtle hint of kindness in his words, but if there was any sense of comfort in them, the tension of the new question would surely wash it away. "Now for a question of my own: What brought the two of you to this academy? Why do you want to become a hero?" His gaze shifted from Desmoshi to Mizuki as he finished his question. "I'd like to hear an answer from each of you."

Desmoshi seem to relax a little as he noticed the principal's stern look soften a bit. He calmly spoke to the twins as Desmoshi and Mizuki sat quietly and listened, giving their respects to the adult who was in charge. The twins hung on to every word he said as he described the need for education was just as important as the need for strength. Desmoshi understood that and took in comfort knowing that he didn't have to feel far behind the other students who had been here longer. He also agree that he would fit in some of the categories the principal had describe of his students. Finally, a principal that actually cared! How long have the twins been waiting for someone like that?
Kobayashi-san had suggested that the twins look for their homeroom teacher after the meeting. Maybe their teacher could provide a program for them to get stronger and catch up with what they missed in the semester. This gave Desmoshi a fresh breath of air as he was worried about how much they had missed. But his sister was smart and they knew how to work together. He knew that it would be no issues with catching up with his other classmates.
Desmoshi thought it was said and done until Kobayashi-san asked his next question. Why were they here? What drove them to become heroes. Out of the corner of his eye, Desmoshi saw his twin wince at the question. Do they tell the truth? Sure they were here to find their own path as a hero. But they were also here to force their father out of the vigilante lifestyle. The risks were too high for him and the family. At first Desmoshi thought it was admirable that his father was helping out the pros. Until he realized the complications that came with it. If someone's secret came out, their family was in danger. If they were properly trained, they could die. If they did not comply with law, they were imprisoned. Desmoshi felt if they could convince their father to step out of that life by becoming a hero, he would not have to worry about these things.
But the question Kobayashi-san had propose made sense in a lot of way. Was the twins here for their own merit or here for other reasons? Desmoshi decided to give the half truth. "To be honest, Kobayashi-san," Desmoshi began, looking at his sister for support, "we are here because we want to become heroes on our own terms. We are looking for our own independence when it comes to our family's namesake. My dad is a pro-boxer and my mom is a Muay Thai expert in Tokyo City. We want to be our own person without being in the family's shadow." Desmoshi took a deep breath and looked at the principal with a calm smile before continuing. "We want to earn our own name for ourselves by doing this correctly." His sister looked as to say tread carefully with what he was saying.
"I also believe that becoming a hero will help me get closer to bringing peace among quirkers and non-quirkers," Desmoshi said, hoping to steer the conversation from his family. "I want to help those who can't help themselves. The only way to do this is to have both sides understand that we are all the same and violence is not the only solution. I know that this seems impossible, but it's worth a shot." Desmoshi knew that this was a long term goal. However, with the right work and dedication, it didn't seem to far fetched. He waited quietly for the principal's response.

The Principal's gaze didn't leave the students for even a second. Some might have considered it intimidating as if there was an invisible pressure bearing down upon them, and yet at the same time, one could say that it was Kobayashi Touma's way of showing that the young ones had been given every bit of his attention. It was true, in this society, there were still many schools, no it wasn't just schools... there were still plenty of people who were hesitant about the existence of Quirkers. But after those three years he knew better: He might still have some of his reservations, but he knew Quirks were here to stay, they were a part of humanity's evolution, and if anything one could say that Quirks were a part of the new generation. One might even come to believe that something like 'heroes' would become essential, after all every passing day criminals with Quirks were growing more confident, more brash and reckless in their actions. They needed to prepare the students to become the heroes that would keep that rising tide of darkness in check.
Although he might had suggested the twins should look for their homeroom teacher to gain advice on how to grow stronger, the truth remained that it would also depend on their efforts, after all to grow stronger you needed the motivation to train, an initiative to try new things and determination to keep up with your training. He truly hoped those younglings had that in them. As Demoshi and his sister were contemplating about how to answer the principal's question, the man tapped his hand lightly on the folder on his desk. "There is no need for hesitation Desmoshi-san, I am no stranger to the existence of Vigilantes, but I am not asking about your parents-" He paused for a moment, his gaze settling onto the boy's sister as he spoke. "I am asking about the two of you. If you wish to become heroes, you need to have a certain something..."
He listened at Desmoshi as he expressed his desire to become a hero for the sake of peace. "So you desire to become a hero in order to bridge the rift between Quirkers and non-quirkers? An admirable goal, after all there is a saying that actions speak louder than words. But like you say, it is not an easy goal. Some of your peers desire the same thing, but the fact remains that Quirks are an unknown presence, a new aspect of humanity that we had yet to experience, and it is within human nature to be afraid of the unknown, so it will be up to Quirkers like you and your sister to prove to Quirkless individuals that there is no need for fear.
He lightly folded his hands together and continued. "One of my students had a rather nice-sounding explanation for this 'reason'. It is said that the 'Origin' of a hero, their reason for wanting to become a hero is the very foundation of their resolve, something that gives them the strength and resolve to continue to challenge the odds that are often stacked against them. That is why it is important for students to find a reason to wanting to become a hero."
His gaze shifted quietly toward Mizuki, and inquired. "How about you Mizuki-san? You have been nodding along quietly with your brother right now, but you are your own person, speak your own resolve young hero in training: Why do you desire to become a hero? Is it to bring unity to society? To protect your brother? Or... To save your family? One important lesson to learn today is that there are countless reasons why one might want to become a hero, and as a result there are a lot of different type of heroes at that also."

Desmoshi was slow on the uptake, but he knew. His sister knew too. He knows. Kobayashi-san knew before the twins even stepped into the office, probably before he sent out applications to them. Before when he mentioned the word vigilantes, Desmoshi knew there was more in that folder than their old school records. The principal had done his research on his family, and even if his father was careful, the principal probably had connections to pros who could figure it out easily. Well, ain't no point in hiding anymore.
But the principal was right when he responded to the male Haymaker's question. This wasn't about their parents. This was about them. And if they were ever going to help their family at the same time accomplish their dreams, then they needed to focus on training as heroes. Desmoshi looked over at Mizuki, her face stoic as she was deep in thought listening to the principal's words. Their foundation here was more important. The twins helping their father leave the world of the vigilantes would come when they received their licenses... maybe earlier. Not only that his goal was going to be a hard one to pull off and words alone wouldn't be enough. That much he knew.
When the principal turned to his sister to ask her the same question, Desmoshi already knew what the answer was. But he wanted his sister to find her voice so he remained silent as she spoke. "To be honest, Kobayashi-san," Mizuki started, nodding toward the folder that contains the information, "I could tell you the reasons I do this is to save my family from what you already know. We know the penalties of illegal quirk use is... harsh." She winced a bit at the word, thinking about how her mother would feel if their father would go to prison.
"The reason our father does it is to bring peace. Maybe not in the way that he should, but he tries," she continued, looking at the principal with a serious look. "But I know that can't be the only reason. Yes, I indeed want my father to stop what he is doing, and by becoming heroes, he would end up retiring. But I need to find the reasons I want to do this. And that's why I am here. To find out the real reason I want to be a hero."
The twins sat quietly for a moment, letting the principal take in Mizuki's answer. Desmoshi had talked to her about why she wanted to become a hero and even her father had asked. Their father had told them to not do this because it would force him to retire and protect their family. Heroes take risks all the time, and he knew the risks when he did it. But to do it for the reasons they wanted to do it for. And in truth, Mizuki knew she wanted to be a hero, but the reason why was still what she was trying to find out.
After what seemed to be an eternity with silence, Desmoshi finally spoke. "So, what do you plan to do with the information you already know about our dad, Kobayashi-san?" he asked quietly. This was serious what if effected their chances to attend here? Or worse, what if Prinicipal Kobayashi decided to give the information to the authorities?
