Nikki ain't exactly a role model, she's more the antihero type that was so big in the 80's and 90's, but she probably isn't the only one!
While heroes and some vigilante's might have heroic ambitions and mantra's Nikki is more down to earth about having a good time punching the bad guys, and generally causing trouble for the bad guys in a manner that's coarse, rough and largely lacking for all that much noble intention.
So if you're kind of a good guy or gal but can still be bad at times, maybe we should create a kind of 'fuck up gang' that tries to do something decent, but aren't exactly the kind of people that folk should model themselves after.
We can be a kind of messed up and ridiculous, like a messed up family of people who wanna punch each others lights out when they're not rek'ing the forces of evil, so if you're interested come and join some dysfunctional fun OK?
Oh and Suicide Squad probs won't be the group name, we'll come up with something more original, that's just a name to convey the kinda 'bad people doing semi-good things' type vibe.

So, having given the idea time to mature and brew in my mind, I'd like to refine it a little following this concept;
Nikki is a girl who once had ties to the Yakuza, and one surprising and not that well known fact about the Yakuza is that they are actually not wholly bad. (Shocking, right?)
Essentially, the Yakuza have a kind of code of conduct that casts them as people who have decided to live outside of society; they consider themselves apart from japan as a whole and essentially 'on their own', but have sympathy for those who they also view as in a similar boat to them such as the victims of disasters? What you may or may not know is that the Yakuza are known to send relief to people afflicted by natural disasters, and were some of the first people to do so in the wake of the Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami, offering the people what they could, which has always seemed interesting to me?
How this ties into the concept is that this seems like something that Nikki will still hold dear to her heart, despite her forsaking the Yakuza life now, and will be something her and the group she associates with will practice.
They are by no means heroes, they're messed up people who basically live like outlaws, and I think will have a kind of ethos similar to like a biker gang or something like that? Nikki even has a bike of her own now, but that's not an essential part of joining, of course. More thematically biker than literally, as in they're guys who look like badass outcasts from society, and act as such. I'd even very realistically expect that a lot of the cashflow in and out of the gang is what they've taken from their enemies.
HOWEVER, they do act for the sake of those who find themselves in trouble, and might have a certain kind of 'Robin Hood' quality in that they protect the downtrodden and give back to people they think are needy?
My ultimate idea is for them to act out of a dive bar somewhere that most people would walk out of as soon as they enter, but for them is their kinda clubhouse where they have a kind of misfit camaraderie. They're happy to fight with each other, but if one of their members gets hurt, you better belief the 'pack' goes after the people responsible with a thirst for vengeance and a tolerance for extreme, nearly 'bad guy level' means to carry out their plans.
So yeah, that's pretty much it, and the last note to add is I'd like them to have a cool name that reflects their status like "The Lost Souls' or "The Outcasts", nothing fancy and pretentious like Storm Knights.

I like the idea, definitely signing up as the group doctor who operates outside of common law. I think having his practice be willing to aid anyone but not in the most legal way would make him a good fit
