Post by Iwasaka Shouko on Sept 20, 2019 11:23:35 GMT -4
Iwasaka Shouko let out a hearty yell into the cool mountain air. As it echoed back and around, the brunette girl stretched her limbs… It was time! After all, come on! It was the mountains, you know, the mountains! And while her major goal today was to see what the teachers had planned- After all, they wouldn’t have made a point about telling students what situation they could use their quirk in if they weren’t already thinking about them needing it- She wasn’t going to be so focused on that, to the point that she missed out on the point! It was a vacation! In the mountains! Where was the fun if they didn’t have fun with it!?
With her hands on her sides, she looked out over the various members of various teams, mingling as they climbed the famous mountain. “Hey, everyoooone!” She called out, possibly catching attention… And more likely, being ignored. Well, it was Shouko, after all. If they weren’t used to her generally being loud about pointless things, she hadn’t been being herself! “Let’s go hunt for Tsuchinoko!” She declared her intention with a beaming smile- Yes! That was what one must do on a trip to the mountains! She planted herself firmly even as she ignored the glares the teaching staff must surely be directing at her… Hunting for Tsuchinoko was a hallmark of youth! How could she let herself be stoped here!?
For those unfamiliar with the cryptid, Tsuchinoko was a legendary snakelike creature said to inhabit the mountains of Japan! The unusual thing about it was that it’s middle was thicker than it’s head... Wait, isn’t that just a snake digesting it’s prey! But such unbelievers were to be shunned! In addition to this defining characteristic, the Tsuchinoko was said to have venomous fangs, and be able to leap up to a meter in the air! And some even said it could double jump! For size... Eh, less than a meter, supposedly? Some say they can speak, and some say they like alcohol... Though she wasn’t old enough to test that one, unfortunately. And some people, craziest of all, said it didn’t exist! Can you believe that!?
Of course, she didn’t have any equipment for hunting… In fact, her entire appearance stood out from her classmates as being unprepared for the weather! Wind gusted at the skirt which hung to her knees, and her tunic had no sleeves- Which made sense considering it’s purpose, but wasn’t exactly adequate for late September in the mountains, where snow would already start to fall! Of course she was wearing layers, but that was only over her core… Weren’t her arms and legs frozen solid? Wasn’t she afraid of catching cold? Naturally, the answer to that was ‘no!’ After all, idiots don’t catch colds! And to the girl who saw no harm in sidetracking the school trip to hunt a creature which does not exist… What other label but idiot could be applied?
Besides, the layers which she claimed, referred to her battle dress- A scanty outfit composed of a dress and a top which covered the necessities… And made out of solid stone. While the stone itself probably was well insulated, it wouldn’t cover enough of anything to make a difference! And the weight of it caused her to crunch loudly on the leaf litter with every step… Certainly not appropriate for sneaking up on a legendary snake! In fact, the entire outfit was a blatant violation of the school’s dress code. Though by now it was well known that she had been granted an exception for it- As her tunic was one of the few things that could be worn over her battle dress, and her battle dress was not something that could be taken off and put back on. Still, as a compromise, she had recently received a recolored tunic, which matched the color scheme of UA’s gym uniforms… Blue, with white trim!
“So, who’s with me!” Shouko called forth for volunteers, raising her fist skyward, and beginning to chant- “Tsu! Chi! No! Ko! Tsu! Chi! No! Ko!” In an attempt to invigorate the crowd… The majority of whom were unlikely to care. But that was their loss!

Naturally it could go without saying that wherever the Shouko headed off to, Mia would inexorably feel the need to follow. That isn't to say for a single second that she believed in the possibility of the Tsuchinoko existing but rather she believed in Shouko. Though with the ever increasing quirk population, it stood to reason that such oddities and legends may have some renewed basis in reality. So it was that she followed her friend without so much as a thought, a camera ready around her neck if the impossible proved possible.
Mia was dressed sensibly in jeans and a t-shirt covered by a thicker windbreaker jacket with some hiking boots and a small back pack. Ever the studious child she had spent some significant time looking on the internet for what would be good to bring hiking. Thankfully the jeans didn't rub her tail the wrong way since she had gotten them modified at her favorite store in Tokyo. While anyone would notice her tail was rather exposed to the elements she did have a home made cozy hidden in the bottom of her bag that she was hoping not to use. There was just something rather embarrassing about the hand knitted tail cozy Bryn had made for her. Besides that she kept the small box of survival supplies she had been given and one of the unholy green drinks she was often seen to be drinking. The fruit they had been given was relatively useless to her given her unusual mouth configuration.
With the backpack easily carrying what she had on her, and her desire only to bring what was necessary; Mia was certain she could carry it as long as necessary. It's not like she brought anything particularly heavy, having forgone both a rope or survival knife. She couldn't imagine a situation in which scaling something with a rope would be possible where her brand of swimming wouldn't. A survival knife would have been a good choice to bring, but she was confident she could do better work with her teeth if need be. Just as long as no-one sees me do it.
With her preparations sufficiently rallied she spoke her assent. "I'm with you Shouko." That phrase seemed strangely enjoyable to say aloud.

...Well that was a...well, that was a way to wake someone up. Truly, the proper way to make sure tired students are brought out of their slump and tired state is is nearly crash the bus with no regard to safety whatsoever. Yup, truly the best alternative to an alarm clock if you ever require one. Just hire someone to drive you out in a bus and then nearly crash. The sad part is that this wasn't the only bus incident in this school that Kaz was a part of. The only difference is that he wasn't made unconscious by it. In fact it was quite the opposite.
Once they got off the bus, he slightly shakes his legs. While he does love to sleep, he prefers to lay on his back and also not be in a moving bus that almost crashed/ran off road when napping. He had to bring back energy into his tired body the only way he knew how...by shaking his legs and doing some slight arm stretches. Never in his life has this failed before. Okay no that was somewhat of a lie, this doesnt work if he is completely exhausted from any exercise that demands intense training or running. One time before entering UA, the class trip demanded them to clean up this one place and his group was saddled with picking up large amounts of trash. Now that wouldn't be a bad thing right? Just picking up trash? How about picking up trash then walking a long way to drop it off in the demanded area containing the proper containers. For someone with a poor grasp on stamina, going back and forth with trash will tire out quite easily. No amount of stretches could ease the 'pain' his body was in once it was over. And in the back of his mind, Kaz fears that the same thing will happen again today.
But right now isn't the time to worry about whether or no you'll die from severe lack of exhaustion. Now is the time to worry about getting lost looking for some sort sort of mythological bei-wait what. Kaz blinks as the usually loud and audible Shouko shouts out to the group to look for Tsuchinokos, as she bobs up and down. He looks at her with some confusion. Didn't they already find Tsuchinokos back in the 2030s...no, earlier than that. Aren't they just bigger Skinks, fat lizards with small legs? Sure, he completely gets the whole obsession with Tsuchinokos. Their legends are endless as if they ran back to the beginning of time...but come on. They're just bigger Skinks....Then again. Looking for Skinks out here in Mt. Fuji would be a great way to re-energize himself in order to take on this...massive hike...up Mt. Fuji...gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah why did he remember that.
“So, who’s with me!” Shouko called forth for volunteers, raising her fist skyward, and beginning to chant- “Tsu! Chi! No! Ko! Tsu! Chi! No! Ko!” In an attempt to invigorate the crowd. Kaz just looks at her with a somewhat annoyed face, having remembered the fact that they're gonna hike up. "Alright fine, Iwasaka. I suppose searching for these so called mythical beings near this area would be a nice way to warm us up. Although..." he folds his arms. "I'm not sure they (The Teachers) would let us stray that far so maybe around the bus we can look for them before we properly start the hike." A good way to not get immediately lost before the event properly starts, he thinks to himself. He suggests this to Shouko, although in the back of his head he figures she would just say no to that and go all gung-ho, hiking up the mountain to look for the large sized skinks. He just nods hello at Mia, the first time they properly met. She seems to be close to Shouko. "Is anyone else going?" He asks out openly.

Her voice was hard to miss... in fact it was VERY hard to miss when she was yelling and chanting these things at the top of her lungs. Itsuki groaned audibly, his hand flying up to his temple as he massaged it. It wasn't enough that he had Yui in Earth binds, waiting to release her into the exercise, now these kids were going to go off and do their own thing as well? The normally calm and stoic teacher was quickly losing it with these kids... he had such high hoped for them at first, truly believing that they would be the heroes of their future... but they were nothing but a bunch of common delinquents.
The older man had made great strides in pushing aside his inherited distaste for the common folk, but U.A Academy was really putting that to the test. Arms in his jacket pockets, Itsuki would them walk towards Shoko and now Mia who had already agreed to join her on this random quest for a mythical snake.
"That has nothing to do with the exercise you are here to complete! Focus on the tasks we've given you or else there is a real risk of you lot dying out here. Honestly? If there are any more delinquents that decide to not participate and be truant, I am starting to enforce expulsion from this school. If none of you can take Hero training seriously, then you don't deserve to be here." Itsuki would state harshly, glaring daggers towards the girls that threatened to go off and disobey the schools orders. Why were they dilly dallying and not getting on with this exercise? He could never imagine himself disobeying his superiors in the military, nor his teachers back when he was in school. That was just something that didn't happen! And he was determined to make that a reality here as well.

In the end, only two voices rose to confirm Shouko's quest for the legends of the Japanese mountains. Well, perhaps more would have it it weren't for- Well, more on that part later. The first voice to raise- Why, it was Mianon! As expected, she was someone who understood the romance of the Tsuchinoko! Shouko would flash the other girl a thumbs up as she canned the crowd for other takers- The only other to pay attention to her words being... Kazzun! Of course it would be! The Chronicler wasn't the type of person to miss out on something as fun as this! Shouko smirked as though she had known all along that he would be in! But who else would come along!?
Another voice spoke up and Shouko turned excitedly to see who it would be- However, her mout soon turned into an 'o' in shock. Ehhhh? Expelled? Over a little Tsuchinoko hunt? AFter she'd taken so much care to follow all of the school's little rules about not just fighting without a teacher to observe or without the paperwork fully filled out? How unfair! Was this... The end of their dreams? Her lip trembled and... Were those tears in her eyes? But no! She wouldn't give up here! Her eyes wide in the universal gesture of pleading, Shouko sidled up to their group's instructor. "Aww, c'mon sensei! It's not that bad! As Kazzun said, we won't be straying that far from the group! And it's only while we're already on break! Pleasssse?" She looked up into his cold, hard eyes.
Okay, so her original plan totally hadn't been that. But nobody needed to know that! Kazzun, I choose you! ""We won't even be going off as far as those groups who say they're scouting on ahead! So shouldn't it be fine?" She was quite familiar with those groups. She'd even wandered off with at least one of them! She and Isamuun had gone off and had to fight Ketsueki-sensei... That was a tough one! But that was her point! Why were they allowed to leave and have fun, but they weren't!? Real risk of dying? Nonsense, wasn't that why the teachers were there? There was no way the government would give the school approval to do this if they were actually going to let the students die!
If Shouko knew more about some of the training exercises UA had given up until this point, she might not have as much blind faith in their safety... Heck, even before that, she knew how injured some of the students were from the sports festival! Her confidence that UA wasn't allowed to let the students be hurt was completely baseless!

Mia responded to the simple head nod with a wave. Shouko had a habit of talking about her friends whenever they did something interesting and she felt she knew Kazzun reasonably well from what she'd heard. Of course his name probably wasn't exactly Kazzun given her friend's penchant for nicknaming everyone she met but hopefully it would suffice. His words even made a lot of sense, which left the young shark wondering whether all of Shouko's friends were more reasonable than her. Sadly the fourth person to join their group was a rather irritated teacher, come to bring the heavy hand of order down upon them.
"D-d-delinquint?" This was an entirely new feeling for the young girl as she repeated the word in terror under her breath. She had never gone against authority in her life, nor had she ever desired to do so. It had come as a bit of a shock that what they were doing could be considered unruly behavior to her but that shock was nothing compared to the promised punishment for such behaviors. Expulsion. I can't go back there.. not again.. they'll never let me outside again... Where previously she was shocked, now she had shifted gears to abject and total horror. Her tail had gone stock still and her body had begun to shake as she gripped the sleeves of her outfit tightly hugging herself.
In the past few months she had experienced true freedom, made friends and lived life. If she was expelled she would have to go back home to the manner and once again play the roll of the dutiful child that no-one wanted. Perhaps it was her sheltered upbringing, but she was seriously considering just running away if that was the case, anything but having to go back to that house. It was a prison, or rather a fish tank designed to hold just one fish that was never interacted with and left to slowly grow older and dye without ever knowing of the sea. To have to go back there would be just too cruel.
To her credit, her friend didn't seem nearly as afraid to plead for mercy from the teacher while still trying to get the much needed permission she desired. Mein gott, how can she be so brave.. Mia waited, a captive audience too scared to even speak, for the teachers verdict on Shouko's begging and her future. The moments seemed to pass like lifetimes.

Kaz just stares at Shockwave with somewhat wide eyes. H-how did a simple search on the mountain nearby their hiking trail, a search for the so called mythical being that can grant one good luck by just finding it...leads to expulsion? How? How can one label common curiosity with a simple word of slander? Sure, this attitude was somewhat fair when he did this sort of deal with Yui because, let’s be completely honest here, she did some stuff that really pushed the line of near expulsion…but this? Come on now, this has to be the result of the bus ride. No one can be this strict right off the bat, plus the walking hasn’t started it. It’s not like they’re gonna get lost, right?
[funny how that works out, huh Past Kaz? At least you didn't mention falling down the steep part of the path after the tripping, otherwise you'll be some sort of weird prophet.]
After letting that shock set it, it appears as if it didn’t get to Shouko that much. Sure it seems to have gotten to Mia as well, but she seems to have mastered the art of not letting life get to her. Every time someone tries to bring her down with realism or harsh discipline or (in this case) a somewhat of a “dick move,” pardon his mental language, she just readjusts with the same gungho attitude the first attempt had. In fact, he doubts she will ever run out of that energy, to the point where she might just run off those fumes to the heat death of the universe. Would be interested to be able to siphon off that same excited attitude for when certain events such as this very event occured. God he hates walking so much. It's why he suggested searching near the bus area, otherwise they would just...gah, imagine the disaster that would have unfolded if they went farer in. Oh boy, so many trees to search through, so many bushes to uproot. Shouko would have done it, let's not kid ourselves, if it was a potential discovery of the said mythical snake.
"...Sir, that's really pessimistic of you to tell us we're delinquents. I doubt that we wanted to disobey the rules our teachers set out in front of us." he says, trying to remain composed after being attacked by his harsh tongue lashing. "Besides, like I suggested, it would be around here before the- wait, wha, there's some groups scouting ahead of us?" He looks at Shouko. "Woul-wouldn't they get lost befo-wai-wa-wait, then why is he telling us of- GAH, whatever! The point remains, we wouldn't bring risk to our welfare over such a fictional being. It's just a short look around the area here before we head out with our mandated groups. Simple as that. We wouldn't get lost from that, right?" Kaz looks around, hoping for them to agree with him, as if to reaffirm that yes, Kaz, YOU won't get lost looking around here. Totally. Absolutely.

"Look" Itsuki's eyes seemed far more focused on Shouko than Mia or Kazu, though he didn't fail to notice how the two reacted to his words. Shouko seemed to take his warning as a joke, while Mia seemed absolutely mortified. Meanwhile, Kazu tried to remain level headed about the whole scenario. These kids really didn't seem to realize what the problem was... at least not Shouko and Kazu.
The man would cross his arms as he looked firmly at Shouko. he didn't normally like being the one to enforce rules and etiquette... hell that had been the life he'd abandoned, but these kids! He had such high hopes for them being the first true generation of heroes... and here they were trying to break any rule put onto them.
"If you can't focus on the mission ahead of you and get distracted, then what good will you be as a Hero? If you can't keep your attention on the task that needs to be completed, then you aren't good to anyone. Everything we make you kids do, in every aspect, will reflect what it's like to be a pro hero. it might seem stupid and mundane, but it all has a purpose. Choosing to disregard the mission given to you and straying, simply for the fun of it, tells me that you're not a Hero I would want by my side in the future. If I can't trust you to follow these simple instructions, then there's no point in you finishing your Hero studies, because no one else will trust you by their sides.
Complete the training exercise FIRST, that is what we are here for. Then if we have time, we'll see about getting you an escort to go looking for this thing." He explained, raising an eyebrow however as Shouko mentioned people scouting ahead. Surely there weren't any scouts, and the various teams were simply moving forward through their exercise? he could only hope that was the case, and Shouko was just making things up at this point to go off on her own and explore. whatever, even if they were, Itsuki would be sure to find them and give them the same damned lecture...
Itsuki would then shift his attention towards Mia, sighing lightly as he unfolded his arms, placing one on his hip and the other to the back of his neck.
"Look is it really so hard to ask you all to follow the rules? That's all I'm asking you to do." With that, his gaze shifted towards Kazu, his words applying to the young man as well who had misunderstood his earlier harsh words. He had been speaking about the student body in general, and not them specifically, at least it wouldn't apply to them until they decided to ignore their training exercise and go on this meaningless hunt...
