At the start of the school day, a new message appeared on the UA Today website, reposted through the school's chatroom:
Calling all first years! Ever wanted to get your face in front of a camera? Eager to introduce yourself to your fellow students? Ready to meet the school’s finest news reporters? For one afternoon only, you can do all of that and more! We’ll be setting up shop near the cafeteria at lunch today, ready and waiting to interview UA’s fresh faces. It’ll be great practice for you guys – in just a few years, you’ll be headlining papers, so you better get used to the camera! We’ll be posting the interviews on our website so everybody gets to know you, so come prepared and bring your best smile! Love, Emi, Heidi and Haruuhi (Second years that are on campus are welcome to join as well!)
The request was innocent enough, and for the most part, honest. The girls had ‘borrowed’ a classroom a stone’s throw away from the cafeteria, and signs pointed the way from the latter to the former. It might have been considered strange, then, that a team so eager to welcome the school’s newcomers had left the door to their temporary base shut. All would become clear as soon as a daring student let themselves in: The girls were gaining the element of surprise.
Haruuhi acted as camerawoman, though there wasn’t much for her to do. The camera, mounted atop a tripod, was trained on the door; as soon as somebody walked in, the camera started rolling. Beside her, UA’s self-proclaimed #1 reporter stepped forward, a devilish grin on her face. “Here at UA, students need to be ready for any surprises, on or off the field! So, brave student, tell us about yourself. Start with your name, preferably, then your quirk, why you’ve enrolled, your favourite thing about yourself, your pro hero hero and what you’re looking forward to here! No pressure, though.” Her smile lessened to a smirk, most likely at the thought of the flustered reactions she’d get to edit together. “…Oh! And when you’re done with that, just step forward a few feet, so we can get a nice close-up for the thumbnail. Please and thank you!” (The story continues in the post below!)

so put that ring away and cash it in Two rectangles, outlined in cheap painter's tape, lay between the camera and door. The one by the entrance, which their guest would cross first, touted text that shouted instructions, "STAND HERE FOR INTERVIEW." A dedicated spot at which their rising star would stutter some drivel.
When the door opened, the student would find two-thirds of the News Club to greet them. Emi, Haruuhi—two diligent soldiers, both armed to the teeth with equipment. Anyone familiar with this student group would notice one station sat empty. Perhaps the case was that their third missing member was simply not invited to join. A valid assumption, backed by witness testimony. Too many witnesses to count.
Unfortunately for all the haters out there, no party could keep her locked out. Horizontally to the box that said, "STAND HERE FOR THUMBNAIL," the one that took more steps to reach, stood blue twin-tailed terror, leaning back on the wall, arms crossed and ear plugs inserted.
A tripwire stretched across the room, cutting through the interviewee's projected path. It tugged at a trigger which linked to a column of freshly bought, fully filled confetti popper. They lined the side wall, from floor up to midpoint, and Heidi was posted adjacent. The catch, as usual, was that bounds by her quirk rendered them all invisible. Adrenaline army and general.
Once this introductory nonsense got taped, Emi would usher the interviewee forward. A headshot, a portrait, so harmless, nothing more. Then the second phase came into play.
POP-POP-POP-POP-POP-POP-POP As they journeyed from one rectangle onto another, thin thread would snag on their feet. A spectrum of colors on pieces of paper would fly from the side and descend. Right where the student was walking. Immediately afterward, Heidi would leap from her confines, now fully detectable by sight.
"But wait, there's more!"
Arms spread-eagled, her giddiness would be palpable. She'd pull out her phone and bombard them. A video would play of a School Festival match, one snippet of the infamous tournament. Once it ended, she'd shove a mic into their face and demand an unfiltered reaction. Thoughts, feedback, advice for combatants as they wailed at each other in HD.
If Heidi was satisfied with the student's response, she'd step back and wave them good-bye. "Thanks for coming! Tell your friends, if you have any! And remember, snitches get stitches!"
With that, they'd at last earn permission to leave. Heidi would sweep the mess into her box and reset the confetti trap for their next victim.

This will be an experimental thread, calling for one post from each participant. The scenario outlined in Emi and Heidi’s posts plays out several times over the course of the afternoon, with a different student walking in each time. It’s up to you to write out how your character responds to their meeting with the news club! In addition to the introduction, each character is expected to have watched at least one of the Sports Festival tournament fights, and discuss them in their post. In the interests of avoiding too much overlap, we’re keeping track of who’s discussed what here:

Post by Kazu Fureu on Apr 20, 2019 19:51:09 GMT -4
The Chronicler of The World is cooped up in a classroom, jolting down some notes and scanning his phone. On days like this, he would go outside and pace himself within the park, observing and chronicling the small avian and grass friends around him. Unfortunately, there were two issues with that problem:
1) it was school time. A proper chronicler must abide to the rules of the world at times before recording them to memory. If he chooses to disobey them, disastrous consequences can occur (If he dares ditch class, then word may reach to his mom, and who knows what will remain of Kaz after she’s done?)
2) He’s too busy glaring at his phone. Currently, he is on break in-between classes, but he, in his infinite wisdom, forgot to finish up his notes. He was too busy staring at a bird who just so managed to prop itself near the window still. He just had to observe it; it was practically calling for his name! So, before the class ended, he took a snapshot of a neighbor’s notes, and managed to save himself the embarrassment of asking the teacher to let him see the notes.
Sighing, he swipes the phone and checks online. Nothing grand, nothing out of the blue for now…perhaps he should check the school site for any new events occurring. As a new student, he has been eager to attempt to participate in every event (barring physical activity that doesn’t include kendo/sword training). He just has to know if there’s anything he can do to aid UA’s chosen ones in achieving their ultimate poten- Huh, what’s this?
The announcement reads:
“Calling all first years! Love, Emi, Heidi and Haruuhi (Second years that are on campus are welcome to join as well!)”
Kaz glares at the phone. “Interesting…the field of reporting, hmm? How delightful! I shall go there immedia- wait, let me…” He rereads it once more. “O-oh, at lunch…. Fine then, I’ll go there during lunch!” He smiles and puffs his chest out, preparing himself for the upcoming trial.
-------
Kaz finds himself outside of the classroom where the Interviews are supposed to take place. A quaint little room, but as his mother would often tell him, expect the unexpected when it comes to small packages. After all, that is how he first obtained the first model of the Chronicle Of The World. It is currently in his house, packed up safely. Kaz grabs the door and opens the door.
Two girls stand there surrounded by camera equipment. One is standing behind the cameras, while the other stands there, with a slight grin on her face. “I suppose I’m the first one here, eh?” (he probably isn’t). He nods approvingly. “Well of course I am, it is the duty of the Chronicler to record everything in sight. If I’m not here, then how can the world know what will conspire within these walls?” He gives off a small smirk to the girls.
One of them replies back with a smile of her own. “Here at UA, students need to be ready for any surprises, on or off the field!” She gets near Kaz. “So, brave student, tell us about yourself. Start with your name, preferably, then your quirk, why you’ve enrolled, your favourite thing about yourself, your pro hero hero and what you’re looking forward to here! No pressure, though.” She shows him where to stand; it’s a small rectangle that says, ‘STAND HERE FOR INTERVIEW.’ She then pauses and lets out a small smirk. “…Oh! And when you’re done with that, just step forward a few feet, so we can get a nice close-up for the thumbnail. Please and thank you!” She signals him to look to the side, where a box stands saying STAND HERE FOR THUMBNAIL.” Seems reasonable enough.
“Oh! Why, of course. Surely you must be interested in my story! Very well, I shall indulge you with it!” He stands inside the rectangle…then pulls out his book. “Is-is it recording? …Yes? Alrig-Very well, then! Rejoice, students of UA. The chronicler of the World, Kazu Fureu, has arrived here to this very moment in time to regale you in the glory that is the chosen ones. You see, I have been selected by the world to record every single detail of the world, so of course I have my trusty Chronicle Of The World besides me. However, as the world fills up with more and more Chosen Ones, a dilemma rises; How can one person record all of their deeds and actions, and tell others of it? Therefore, I turn to this! The news! With this, word will reach out and inform people of the possible Chosen Ones residing within this school!” He smirks a bit. “Of course, one may ask; “Chronicler, if you are but a mere recorder, why are you in this established institution?” He starts pacing back and forth, slightly leaving the rectangle but returning within it over and over again. “Ah, but see, I am not just any mere recorder. I have been graced with a power of my own! I call It Greedy Metal! Its name stands for the lust and desire for the world’s knowledge, dwelling within the core of the earth, surrounded by ore! Ore that can be turned into…metal!” For a moment, Kaz sounds proud of himself for just now making that (broad and barely supported by evidence) connection. “If one were to aid the chosen ones, they must occupy the same field as them, and aid them in whatever capacity they can! That is why I am here.” He nods once more and loosens his ascot a bit. “Now then, allow me to make myself more familiar with you all. If you want to know my favorite thing, well then, that is quite obvious isn’t it.” He looks at the two, observing. “…Chosen Ones. It-it’s the chosen ones.” He was broken out of his normal “trance” in that one moment, but then he quickly resumes into it. “The chosen ones are my most favorite thing, standing above even literature! Chosen ones such as the several Pro Heroes aiding our country. It’s so hard to choose between them, so I’ m afraid I cannot give you an answer on that right away. Nevertheless!” he poses his hands outward holding his book. “I hope to aid you chosen ones soon!”
Satisfied, the reporter girl urges him to walk forward. He then steps up to obtain the image of his face for the school to see.
POP-POP-POP-POP-POP-POP-POP
Confetti pops out of nowhere. Suddenly a third person jolts within Kaz’s personal space, shoving her phone up in front of his sight. "But wait, there's more!" she giddily proclaims as a video starts to play. Kaz is confused by all of this. While this video is all nice and all, why would they reward him with confetti? Usually, confetti are used to award someone with the joy of achieving a position, or a present, or even some- Wait a minute. Are they…did he pass something?
OF COURSE, THAT HAS TO BE IT! He passed the test! What test? Well clearly, the test was to prove to the team that he has what it takes to record their legacies down the line, for the school! Oh, how wonderous, smiled Kaz as he stared at the video. Two people were fighting in a field. One of them was a bear, and the other appeared to have wings. Interesting…could this be one of the school festival events?
A mic is shoved near his mouth. She appears to be waiting for a response. He glares at her, and at the phone. Ah, of course. They want to know what his opinion is about on this recording. He shouldn’t keep them waiting. He back a bit, raising his voice so the mic can pick it up. “Ah yes, of course: the infamous Beast and Harpie match. One of my personal favorites.”
In the back of his head, Kaz is freaking out. He wasn’t able to watch ANY of the matches due to weekend work, and therefore cannot properly explain what is currently happening in front of him. He has to do something to keep his persona intac- OF COURSE. IT IS SO CLEAR NOW. HE SHOULD DO…THIS!
“It is a favorite of mine…only for the magnitude of how that beast managed to tear off her wings in an instant. For you see, the two were mortal enemies, destined to fight for eternity. The earth, and the heavens. Two lands separated by ideals, destined to fight over and over again. Over time, the two would send out champions to deal with their proxy wars, and in this case they have chosen their strongest. A beast, formed in the mud of the earth with the strength of a thousand, and a bird, manifest into a human shape and granted the highest intelligence, able to match wits with a thousand armies. The two collided, and in the end…the Beast won.”
Footage of Angel winning is now playing on the phone. Oh. Ooooooooooooh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
“…That is, of course, false, and I apologize if you managed to believe me during this past minute.” Kaz attempts to save grace and continues. ”In truth, the Harpy won and earned the right to ascend into the form of an Angel. The beast, however, gained her respect and the glory of the world. You see,” he starts pacing again. “History is easily manipulated. One victory can be easily manipulated into a loss by historians and fools wanting to hide the truth. One should be wary of that, and I promise you, as the Chronicler Of The World, I shall promote the absolute truth in my records. The world shall know the truth. The Chosen Ones shall know the truth. I guarantee that." He closes his book.
"Now then,” he turns to the trio. “…I believe it is time for my first profile image as the chronicler of this club, then?” He smirks at them, believing this to be an elaborate interview for a new club member.

Post by Arthur "Reddarcc" Hunter on May 9, 2019 2:52:24 GMT -4
Red was just trying to find his way around the school. You see, he may be a second year, but due to boot camp cram school taking up most of his time, he'd never actually been able to explore the place. The break didnt help in that regard, as since most of "His" year were off with their parents, in Korea or some other form of vacation, he didnt really have anyone to follow around so he could learn the lay of the land. He didnt even know the majority of people in his class, where his class room even was, Etc Etc. There were first years milling around the place, but Red didnt want to have to ask one of em for help, considering that he'd probably end up making em late for class or somethin. It was around this time that he got a ping on his phone, with some message about introducing yourself to the rest of the school or something like that. He read it over a couple times, just to make sure he properly understood what it actually meant....and then promptly went "Yeah fuck that" and put it to the back of his mind. Yeah, the kid who'd never had an actual conversation with his peers before would go to an interview or something, wouldnt that be a funny idea. Sure, he was qualified for it, but he aint embarressing himself in front of the entire school before he's even started classes.....that being said, he should try and find the cafeteria, cause he suddenly felt really hungry.
Unfortunatly for him, despite hunger being a very good motivator, it took him a while to actually find the place, as he wandered around the school aimlessly, trying to find the place where food happened when he came across a terrifying sight: Kaz leaving a random classroom, looking like he'd accomplished something grand while spouting something about being the chronicler of their club or whatever. Red didnt like the feeling he was getting, cause it was the Kaz probably did something stupid sense going off. He gave it a couple minutes to let Kaz walk off, before he made his way to the room, fully prepared to apologise profusely for whatever Kaz had done. If he was lucky, He'd just get laughed off cause it was a misunderstanding, but knowing Kaz, it wouldnt be a misunderstanding. In his focus to apologise for the kid, he completely missed all the signs about the interview somehow.
Opening the door was a mistake. he barely even started to apologise before he got jumped by some girl with pink hair and a mic, lovingly being shoved into his face. For a second his instincts kicked in, but he managed to keep his fist in his pocket and not punch this girl in the face. He felt like he recognised her from somewhere, but he was honestly too confused to figure that out right now. She machine gunned questions at him, faster than he could come up with answers. She gestured to some square with a sign reading "Stand here for interview". Red contemplated just running for it, he knew this was gonna end badly for him, he was bad at talking in general, but in camera? His stutter would probably come back with a vengence.....but he was already here, so might as well use this as practice. He could probably play it off and make a better first impression later, hopefully.
He stepped over to the square, realised that the camera had already been rolling since he walked in, and just started rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. "Goddammit" he muttered under his breath, before just machine gunning his answers out. She'd said no pressure, but he felt like he was balancing on knives right now. "Names Red, Quirk is go fast to make wind, cause i like helping people, no idea, dont have one, and not having to hide my quirk or fight everyday." He kept it as brief as possible, he just wanted to get this over with and leave, he could feel his stomach wanting to throttle him if it was denied food any longer. The lady asked him to walk forward for a picture. Red was hesitent, he really hated having his picture taken, but if it got him outta here faster then he'd do it. He awkwardly stepped forward, still rubbing his head looking awkward as fuck, when he hit the trip wire. He felt it a second too late, and thats when the confetti popped off and another girl just fucking appeared in front of him.
He nearly punched her in the face. The only thing that stopped him was her shoving her phone in his face, showing him a video of one of the festival fights. His arm, reeled back for a punch, dropped to his side, as he watched Yumi and Darren nearly kill eachother. "One pump chump my ass, Yumis a fuckin monster with that suit" He muttered under his breath, as he watched the fight play out. As it did, he started to mumble even more, wondering how both their quirks worked. He was mostly interested in Yumis suit though, Jesus that thing made her quirk way better. She was firing off lighting bolts like it was nothin. "She said it gave her a low level charge, but jesus if thats what its capable of she could fuck my day up....man she got beat up though, christ she looks like i usually do after a bloody fight...hmmmm." He mumbled, completely forgetting the world around him like he usually did when he started thinking about quirks or support gear.
His mind started to wander over to how Darrens quirk worked. "Hmmm....is it something to do with electricity? Considering the sparks coming off of him it'd make sense, he moves around like lighting atleast, those dashes are well timed...hmmmm..." He continued to mumble, before realising that he was being recorded while this was happening. He hadnt realised the mic shoved into his face either, catching literally everything he'd just mumbled like he'd shouted it from the heavens themselves. "Oh i uhh........fuck it, just take the picture so i can go already" He told the girls, as he tried to not look awkward, but failing immensly before leaving as quick as he could. He never wanted to deal with something like this ever again, it sucked.

“Yes! My name is Iwasaka Shouko, and this is my quirk!” The brunette girl would raise her rock-covered arm. The incoming freshman wouldn’t have missed the chance to interview with the news club for the world! After all, were they not comrades of the camera? The enthusiastic girl had burst into the room with enthusiasm, nearly triggering the tripwire before it was time. However, she had since been moved to the correct spot, and would continue her explanation with glee.
“The rock grows from my skin, all over my body. In fact, each morning, I wake up trapped in a boulder, and have to break my way out! I carve what’s left into my hero costume, but… I won’t be showing it today!” The girl would intentionally neglect to explain that it was due to how revealing her costume was, brushing off the topic by moving right along. “As for why I enrolled? How could I not after seeing the sports festival! Superpowers clashing, fists meeting fists! I’ve always been a lover of the battles between people with powers, and there is nowhere closer to see it than right here!”
It was a decidedly unheroic answer, but was spoken with such vigor that it denied any chance to react. “What was next… Oh, my favorite thing, right? That’s easy! Without a doubt, 100%, it’s Superpower Battles! I mean, regular fights are cool in their own way, but when you add quirks into the mix? It throws out all the rules! The powers! The techniques! The infinite variations! Surely you also understand the beauty in battles, right? Right!?” Although she had misheard the question, Shouko would remain unphazed even as she attempted to question the people who were trying to question her!
As for her favorite pro, surprisingly, it seemed the question had her stumped. “I mean, I like them and all, but… Compared to those guys, aren’t Darren- senpai and Tetsuko-senpai way better!? I mean, I haven’t managed to get good footage of Serperior or Red Horn fighting anybody worth their weight, but… I mean, compare Darkshine fighting Thunder to Darren-senpai fighting Yumi-senpai! And Tetsuko’s even above Darren, have you seen her swordsmanship!? That Arthur guy had the size, he had the weight- And we all know what that got him! I’ve seen a few so-called master swordsmen duel in my day, and Tetsuko puts every last one of them to shame! Ah, sorry, I… Uh, next question!”
“Right, that’s easy! I’m looking forward to getting to see everyone battle! You, viewers, don’t you dare start a spar without letting me know,” Shouko would address the camera with a wink, as though she were recording for one of her own videos. This was her element, and she took to it like a fish in water.
Alas, time was fleeting, and that was the last question. Still, she had done what she set forth to do- Make sure that all of UA knew that she was out to watch their battles, and would not be denied! A stupid grin spread across her face at the thought of all the incoming spars she would be invited to- Her delusions distracting her even as she stepped up to the box at Emi’s request.
Caught off guard by the sudden spurt if confetti, Shouko would stare blankly at Heidi for a moment, before looking to the phone in her hands. On the screen, two fighters fought valiantly, but to Shouko, the more she watched, the more pronounced her frown grew. A stark contrast to her earlier bubbling about the super powered battles. Finally, she could not bottle it inside anymore- “Who filmed this! Who! Look! Look at this! No, don’t zoom in there, Pan! Pan! Oh come on!”
The girl practically tore her hair out in frustration- Whoever had filmed this clearly had no clue how to properly watch a battle! This could not stand! Crushing her arm out of the stony shell it had been locked inside for her earlier demonstration, she pulled out her own phone. Fingers flying, she found her perfect rebuttal- The same match she was being shown, but from a different angle. “This! Do you see this!? Two swords coming, one above, one below. One move, with one move she not only stops both, but opens up room to counterattack! One of the most skillful bits of swordplay in the fight, and where are your cameras pointed!?”
“Oh, but as if that was enough! Look, here, here!” Shouko scrolled the video to another point, and shoved it in Heidi’s face. “The climax! The turning point! An all out assault from Arthur! Pushed back, Tetsuko-senpai regains her footing along with her confidence! And this is when you choose to focus on the swordplay!? Look, look at this face right here! In fact, let me play it again! This isn’t about the swords! Just look at her! You see exactly when she finds herself! Just from the face! This is when you zoom in on the face! There’s no skillful swordplay going on, just brute strength facing iron will! Come on!”
Finishing her diatribe, Shouko would look upon the trio with pity- It was such a shame that until now, no one had taught them the finer points of enjoying superpowered battles. Of course, after her second rant of the interview, it was doubtless that she received some strange looks on her way out.

In hindsight, Emi should have known better. An open call for the school’s newest and shyest students to step in front of the camera was only ever going to draw out the strangest that the first years had to offer. A ‘recorder’ with his head in the clouds, and a golem near-concerningly obsessed with fights. At least Red had one thing going for him – in comparison to them, there was almost nothing he could do that would make him look like anything but ‘the sane one’.[break][break]
Still, being bold enough to volunteer had to count for something. They hadn’t fled the scene once they’d lifted the veil on their plans, but stood boldly and answered their questions. They were passionate, questionable, and at times insulting, but they were answers nonetheless. When she waved them off, it was with a smile – a normal one for Red, and a much more confused one for the other two. Soon enough, they’d see themselves featured on the school’s news page – once the girls had reviewed and cut down the videos. “…You ever look at Japan’s future heroes and think that we might be screwed?” She turned to Heidi once the job was done, though she never expected an optimistic answer from her if it didn’t involve something illegal.
