APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Kumoko Joro is very distinct in the fact that her head is a giant spider. More specifically, it bears resemblance to the joro spider. Her spider abdomen is yellow in color with several black heart-shaped markings. On the underside of the back of the abdomen is a single red heart-shaped spot. Her eight spider legs are striped, starting with a golden color at the base, and then alternating between black and yellow, with the tips of her legs being black.
Kumoko's face and skin is light gray in color. She has two large golden eyes, and four smaller eyes where her eyebrows would be if she had any. The girl lacks ears, although she can still hear sounds in the same way a spider can, using the hairs on her spider body to detect vibrations. She has two pairs of fangs, with one pair being smaller in size and inside her mouth with her other teeth, and the other pair being black in color, far larger in size, and protruding from her cheeks.
Her body, unlike her head, is the same as any regular human girl. Besides being a bit taller than average and having gray skin, there is nothing else about Kumoko's body that's out of the ordinary.

LIKES
✔ Friendly people, hugs, music, most insects, spiders, sweet food, bright colors
DISLIKES
✖ Mean people, bullies, quirkists, animal abusers, senseless violence, wasps
Personality:
Kumoko is a polite, sweet, and kindhearted girl. She treats everyone she sees with nothing less than utmost respect and kindness. She is incredibly caring, and if she sees anyone feeling down, she will hug them and go out of her way to make sure that they feel better. Kumoko is very modest, not being one to brag or show any form of arrogance. She's also incredibly selfless, never putting herself or her own wants and needs above that of anyone else. She never judges anyone based on appearances. To her, it's not what's on the outside that matters. Rather, it's how the person is on the inside. She never refuses anyone's request for help, and she is willing to befriend anyone.
Sadly, it's not all sunshine and rainbows with Kumoko. The girl has incredibly low self-esteem due to the years of bullying, hate, and fear she gets due to being a mutant. Although she is no longer as self-loathing, Kumoko is still quick to deny any positive comments or compliments about her, believing that she does not deserve any praise she gets. She lacks self-confidence, not having a lot of faith in her capabilities and often needing reminders from others that she is not as bad as she believes herself to be. Kumoko is incredibly shy, being very hesitant to approach people on her own. She is also rather clumsy, often bumping into things and people without meaning to, and having to apologize almost constantly for it.

HISTORY
The girl with a spider for a head never knew who her biological parents were. Whether they had abandoned her upon seeing her bizarre appearance, if she got kidnapped by someone for whatever reason, or something else entirely, she did not know. All she knew was that from a very young age, she moved constantly from orphanage to orphanage, never staying in one place for long. Her parents never came for her. Nobody wanted to adopt her. Nobody wanted to befriend her or care about her. For a while, it seemed that the nameless spider girl was just unwanted. She felt sad and lonely all the time.
Fortunately, when the girl was 5, things would start to change for her for the better. One day, a man named Hiroshi Kinjo visited the orphanage. His wife had recently died in a car accident, and he was devastated. Before the accident, the two had agreed to have a child together. Now, he was all alone. Hiroshi decided to adopt a child and carry out his late wife's final request of starting and raising a family. Upon entering the orphanage, Hiroshi noticed the unique girl. Unlike the other adults who would either ignore the girl or be freaked out by her appearance and treat her like some kind of monster, the man was intrigued and reached out to the poor girl, wanting to get to know her better. She was slow to open up to Hiroshi, but eventually began to warm up to him as he actually treated her with kindness and respect. Hiroshi was curious as to why the girl did not yet have a name. He decided to adopt the girl with the spider head and raise her like a daughter to the best of his ability. He also gave her the name that she would now be known by: Kumoko Joro, derived from 'kumo' which means spider, 'ko' which means child, and 'Joro' because the girl's head resembled a joro spider. Kumoko liked the name and cheerfully accepted both her new name and Hiroshi as her new father.
Unfortunately, life was incredibly tough growing up as a mutant, and not just because Kumoko's large spider head made putting shirts on a nightmare. On Kumoko's first day of school, the entire class, including the teacher, screamed in horror when the girl walked into class, calling her a horrific monster and freak, which caused the poor girl to break down in tears and sob for hours. It was pretty much like this throughout all of Kumoko's time at school. Just like at all the orphanages the girl was in, all the other kids were either terrified of the girl, did their best to ignore the odd mutant girl, or hated and bullied her because of her bizarre appearance.
However, Kumoko would never be angered by their poor treatment of her, nor would she ever blame them for being afraid or spiteful of her. She saw herself as the problem, often agreeing with the harsh and constant jeers and words of the bullies. The screams and hate from the others were, in her mind, completely understandable. As far as Kumoko was concerned, she was a monster. She didn't belong. Nobody wanted to be her friend, and nobody deserved to have such a horrible freak for a friend anyway. This kind of thinking was what caused the poor girl to become timid, lacking in self-confidence and self-esteem, and hesitant to approach others.
Naturally, Hiroshi did everything he could to assure her that this simply was not the case, that she should be proud of her gift, not shun or loathe it like everyone else did, and that despite how she looked on the outside, Kumoko was a beautiful and precious golden angel on the inside. That's what was important. Eventually, Hiroshi decided to move away to a different neighborhood and chose to homeschool the poor girl to get her away from all the negativity of the people at public schools. Kumoko appreciated her foster father's love and support for her, and always did her best to do well in her studies so as to not disappoint him. She wanted to prove the haters wrong, that she wasn't a waste of a life, that she was a smart girl, that she was good and can do good!
Despite this, the hate and fear continued everywhere Kumoko went. No matter where she chose to go out to in public, there was just no escaping the anti-quirk sentiment. Thankfully, by the time she was 13, Kumoko had learned to ignore it for the most part and accept herself for who she is, no longer being completely self-loathing. Although the strong quirkism bothered her and she was still brought to tears by the occasional mental or even physical attacks on her, she knew that not all people were like this. There was good in this world along with the bad. She would not hate those who hated her. She refused to give in to the hate. Hate bred violence, and Kumoko heavily disliked violence. She refused to stoop so low, no matter how badly she was mistreated!
Fortunately, Kumoko was slowly and eventually able to step out of her comfort zone just enough to go out and try to socialize and meet new people. Fate was slowly becoming kinder to the girl. Although very few in number, Kumoko had made some close friends. Most were fellow mutants like her, though there were a few who weren't but did have a quirk, and one was even quirkless. They convinced her to try to convince her dad to give public school another try, so she could be with her friends in the school they all went to. Even if there were bullies there, they would do all they could to defend their spider-headed friend. Although Hiroshi was understandably very hesitant and it took ages of begging, pleading, and convincing, he reluctantly agreed to give it a shot. Fortunately, this proved to not be a complete disaster. Although there were some of the expected haters and bullies, there were also far more reasonable people, ones who saw Kumoko the same as any other ordinary girl. She even made a few new friends! Overall, while far from perfect, Kumoko was having an adequate time at high school. At least the teachers stopped screaming every time she came into class.
At the age of 15, Kumoko was attacked by two quirkist thugs at Tokyo Park when she stopped to listen to a man and young teen play music. As it turned out, the two musicians were actually vigilantes! They proceeded to defend the poor girl from the armed thugs. Seeing the two fight hard for her sake was what gave her the courage to help the two and fight back against the thugs. Although she hated senseless violence and fighting, Kumoko felt like she could not just sit back and do nothing. She was tired of always being pushed around, of always being a victim! She used her golden web strings to tie up and restrain the troublemakers while they were distracted by the vigilantes, helping to end the fighting. The police had arrived a while later (with the two vigilantes having already left long before).
After explaining what had happened and getting her story backed up by some witnesses who was there, the police took the thugs away. They also let Kumoko off with a warning, advising her not to use her quirk again out in public and consider enrolling at Yuuei should she wish to legitimately fight crime. At first, Kumoko was not sure that she had what it took to even be a part of the hero school. But she did fantasize a lot about being like her favorite pro hero, Army of One. The pro hero was a spider lady just like her, though of a different kind. How awesome would it be to be just like her idol? Though perhaps with the girl's pacifist nature, maybe being a support hero would fit her better than outright combat.
Returning to the park a few days later, Kumoko met up with one of the vigilantes that had saved her. She and the teen soon became friends. The two would often exchange stories, he telling her about some of his various vigilante escapades, and she sharing some funny moments at school, like that one time when her entire class was freaking out over an overgrown fly buzzing around the classroom and then feeling relieved when she just casually walked over to it, caught it in a web, and then ate it like it was nothing more than a cookie. After asking the vigilante if she had an honest shot at making it as a hero, the boy smiled and assured Kumoko that she could be the best damn hero Japan had ever seen if she put her heart and soul into it.
Being inspired by this, her friends and Hiroshi's equally encouraging words, and actually getting to meet Army of One in person, Kumoko had made up her mind. She was going to take her first step on the path of justice! As soon as she could do so, Kumoko would join the hero school and make everyone proud! Just like her idol, Kumoko would work hard to help ensure that all of Japan would be safe from villainy, even if it was in a supporting role and not as a fighter. Kumoko wanted to help make not just Japan, but the world into a better place, one that was peaceful and safe. She wanted to help make sure that no one, whether mutant or not, would ever have to feel the way she did in the past. It won't be easy, but Kumoko was determined to do her best!
