these rapid eyes will keep on moving It was offseason, but it was still close enough to the summer weather for people to start to get things ready. With spring on the horizon, summer was only a few months away. And if the city was lucky enough, warm weather would come sooner than many expected. But for now, the beach was mostly empty of what one would expect when they imagined a beach. That didn't mean it wasn't occupied at all, however. Even during the winter, the beach had a few things going for it. Fishing, sailing, and just being a general place for people to hang out kept the place from looking completely barren on the offseason. And not that warm weather was approaching a few store and stall owners were checking in to reserved their spots on the beach and set up their shacks and storehouses for the wares they hoped to sell in a few months. They needed someplace to store the items they got on sale during the offseason. It was practically free money! That said, all was not well on the beach. While there weren't a lot of people around, one thing did eventually become noticeable. A trial of black smoke rose in the distance. It was down the beach, just out of sight of where most people would be at. It was wrong to call it the uninhabitable side of Dagobah beach, but it was a place no one really bothered to go to around this time. It was there that a shed was that stored things between the summers. At first, it was easily ignored, but the smell of smoke would eventually reach the area everyone else was at. And for anyone that didn't mistake t for some weird offseason cookout, it was easy to assume there was a fire somewhere. Queue Lani. She was at one end of the boardwalk at an eatery that sold grilled meats and vegetables on a stick. She came by every so often because she liked the food there. And while their business was best during the summers, they got enough throughout the offseason to stay open. The boardwalk was enjoyable during the entire year after all. She sat on a stool with one leg crossed over the other. Today was a nice breezy day, one that was a welcome break in the cold weather. A clear sign that spring was here! It was basically spring and Lani was ready for it. She already busted out her halter top that was a part of a set with some sleek black pants. Her arms, shoulders, and midriff were bare and she was glad to finally be able to loosen up her wardrobe. The adornment of accessories on her persons arranged themselves with the five colors that Lani wore most. White and black were staples while red, blue, and green ended up as the flavor for what she wore. Her back was turned to where the smoke was coming from in the distance. And with her proximity to the grill, she didn't catch wind of the burning smell just yet. Surely someone else out there visiting the beach and boardwalk would take notice right? 528 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

words: 540 tag: Lani Bijan notes: Nice to be back at the beach! |
Sean doubted that there was anyone in all of Japan and maybe even the world who was happier about winter finally passing by than he was. At last, the stupid cold weather would go away! It would be warm again! More importantly, it would mean that he could go to the beach for more than just training with his water-based quirk. Although summer was still quite a ways off, spring would be warm enough. The blue-haired boy could not wait for it to be warm enough for him to be able to swim, surf, and soak in the sun's rays.
Naturally, Sean would head to the beach on a nice day like this. Today, the boy was wearing blue swim shorts, dark blue sandals, and his blue swim goggles around his neck, with nothing to cover his upper body. Sean often liked going shirtless whenever it was warm enough to feasibly do so, which was why he left his jacket at home. After having to wear it so much during the winter, it was great to not have to bring it with him for once.
The first thing Sean did when he got there was go to one of the stalls that sold one of his favorite foods: grilled fish on a stick, or fish kebabs as they were called. Buying one for himself, as well as a water bottle, Sean's face lit up with happiness once he took a bite. It tasted so good! Despite the boy having taught himself how to cook, he could not get his fish to taste this good. Not yet, anyway. But hopefully that would change one day. Until then, Sean was more than happy to keep coming back to the stalls for more fish kebabs.
As the boy finished his fish and was about to take a drink from his water bottle, he noticed it. Off in the distance was smoke. Even before seeing it, the smell reached Sean's nose. His eyes widened in shock. "Oh shit!" Experience and common sense had taught the boy that where there was smoke, fire would not be too far off. Sean's mind went back to that burning tent back at Herr Kunshu. All those people trapped inside, the sounds of screaming and crying children, all those quirks going crazy and making the already bad situation even worse. Sean's facial expression became serious. No matter how big or small, fire was still fire. He could not just stand there and do nothing now that he noticed the smoke. Besides, he was a hero of water. Who else was more suited to combat the fire than he? Well, there was the fire department, but seeing as the boy heard no sirens, it was all the more reason for him to hurry over there.
Tossing the stick in the nearby trash can, Sean began to run as fast as he could in the direction of the smoke. The boy smiled. With all of the water around thanks to the nearby ocean, putting out that smoke would be child's play! With his quirk, whatever fire was causing that smoke wouldn't stand a chance! He just hoped that there was nobody trapped in there. Hold on! Tsunami is on the way!

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Sean was the first to react and as he made his way over to the source of the smoke, he could see others noticing it as well. No one seemed to want to do anything about it, however. Most people pointe dit out and spoke among themselves about it. One couple talked over calling the police or if they should get involved as well. A man and his daughter noticed it but decided to distance themselves from the trouble. They had a big day ahead of them and didn't want to waste their short break on some small fire in the distance. ANd as Sean ran through, he'd see why the world was in need of heroes. Bystanders just didn't want to get involved unless it was serious. And with the smoke that was there, and how far away that it was, the people that noticed figured someone else would handle it. They were in the world of heroes after all.
That said, Sean wouldn't be the only one coming to the rescue. Lani, who was snacking on her freshly cooked treat was finally taking notice of what was going on around her. Her eyes moved to watch the ocean as she imagined the surfing she could do once it warmed up a bit. The whole thing excited her and she was ready to try it out. Japan's waves were nicer than she expected but she still liked the ones from home. And as her eyes continued to trail across the horizon she had they eventually led back to the beach and in the direction of the smoke. At first, she almost didn't notice it at all. But a second glance made her realize the smoke was really out of place. "What the..." She mumbled to herself as she slowly stood up from her stool. There was really no reason for there to be any smoke of any kind out on the beach right now. It wasn't late enough for a beachside bonfire and there really wasn't anyone around. So what was going on? Curiosity ultimately took over and she took a large bite to finish off her snack before rushing off into the direction. She was further away than Sean was, so he would get their first.
And the sight that Sean would see ended immediate attention. There was definitely a fire there. A storehouse had flames sizzling inside of it. It wasn't enough to encase the whole building, but with as small as it was, the storehouse would be engulfed in the flames were not dealt with. It was the kind of place that things were store din over the winter, so no people were in it. But there was definitely some property loss to be had if the fire wasn't taken care of. The odd thing was, however, that there shouldn't have been anything inside of the storehouse that would randomly start a fire. And the front of the building had the doors wide open almost as if someone rushed out of it after the fire had started. Either way, the problem that needed to be dealt with right now were the flames. The storehouse was an unreasonable distance from the beach, so attempting to use the ocean water to put out the flame would take more than what a normal person could manage. As for the closest fire hydrant, that was pretty far off, but closer than the ocean water. If one could find some way to twist the cap off then it would be of much more use in putting the flames out. Something just needed to be done quickly as it was doubtful that firefighters would arrive quickly enough to save the property inside. 620 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

Sean rushed over to where the smoke was as quickly as he could. Despite most of the people nearby being reluctant to try to help, Sean paid it no mind. He was focused more on the fact that there was a fire that needed to be put out quickly. Even if the boy did notice, it would not have bothered him too much. That just meant that there were less people he would have to worry about getting in the way and possibly getting hurt due to their recklessness and not knowing what they were doing.
Stopping a few meters in front of the burning storehouse, Sean removed the cap from his water bottle. There was no time to waste! Sean closed his eyes and activated his quirk. As the familiar cooling sensation began to spread throughout his body, Sean concentrated, forcing the water out of the bottle and making it hover beside him. The boy then made his way to the entrance of the storehouse and looked inside. Yup, there was definitely a fire. Thankfully, it was not yet at the point where it was consuming the entire building. However, Sean did not have a lot of time. He needed to work quickly!
Shaping the shapeless blob of water that was hovering beside him into a sphere, Sean then launched the water sphere straight into the flames, hoping to repeatedly smother the fire until there was nothing left of the blaze. Unfortunately, it was soon becoming clear that this would not be enough to quell the fire. After all, Sean only had a single bottle's worth of water to work with. With what he had at the moment, Sean was only just able to stall, keeping the fire from spreading for only a minute or two at best.
However, that was not the only issue. As soon as Sean stepped out to get some more water, another problem made itself clear. The ocean was too far away. Now Sean would definitely be able to use his quirk to slowly carry some water from there to the storehouse, assuming that nothing would break his concentration along the way. However, doing so would take far too much time. The entire storehouse would probably burn down before Sean could come back with an adequate amount of ocean water. It was just far too impractical. The boy needed to come up with another plan, and fast!
After a bit of running and looking around, Sean noticed it. In the distance, there was a fire hydrant. It was pretty far, but still much closer than the ocean. The boy smiled. Perfect! If he hurried, then he could come back with the water from the hydrant before the fire could spread too much! After returning the sphere of water to the bottle and temporarily deactivating his quirk to preserve its use, Sean began running towards the fire hydrant.
However, that's when yet another problem made itself apparent. Try as he might, Sean just could not twist the cap off of the fire hydrant. At least he could not do so with just his bare hands. The thing was too tight. Sean sighed. Come on, there's got to be something that can help!
Fortunately, all hope was not yet lost. After another failed attempt at trying to unscrew the fire hydrant's cap (and doing his best to ignore the increasing pain in his hands), Sean noticed someone approaching. A girl who looked to be around the boy's age was getting closer. Sean waved to the girl to get her attention. "Yo! Could you give me a hand with this? The sooner that fire gets put out, the better, and I could use all the help I can get." Sean hoped that whoever this girl was, she would be more than willing to lend a hand.

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani made her way to the source of the smoke. Her curiosity would soon be answered as she rushed over and overheard what others were saying. Some were curious, just like she was, but didn't want to get involved. But one group that was moving away from the storehouse that was up in flame mentioned just that. There was a place that was on fire and needed to be put out. And upon hearing that, whether it was true or not, Lani quickened her pace to try and find out just what was going on. And as she got within viewing distance of the storehouse she could see the situation at hand. The place was on fire, but it wasn't completely engulfed A wash of relief moved over her as she saw that it wasn't something completely unmanageable and out of control. There was also someone already trying to fight the fire. And as the girl narrowed her eyes she saw that it was someone that she recognized. It was odd, but she remembered someone like that from practically the exact same scenario back at the Kunshu Festival. While she rushed out of the tent after the ringmaster that caused all the problems in the festival, there was someone that was trying to put out the flames. That person was this one!
She remembered seeing the face around the school too. Surely it was a schoolmate! It made sense considering he was trying to help others and save this shack from a fire. But he lacked what Lani also lacked, water. Oh!" She spoke up as the boy called for her. She rushed over as he tried to twist the cap. They didn't have the leverage or the strength to move that thing with their bare hands. But Lani did have a way to give Sean some water to work with. "I have an idea..." She said running off in the opposite direction. What she needed was something green in color. Lani's quirk needed light to work and for this, she needed something green. On the beach, that was going to be a little hard to find and after a cursory glance, there was nothing she could really work with. But then it hit her. Green was one of the colors she wore often to accent what she wore. ANd low and behold, there was a patch of green on the very top that she wore. Running back over to the hydrant, Lani knelt down next to it and held out one of her hands to push Sean aside. "I can't change it for long; so make use of it while you can." She explained, probably to his confusion.
She placed her hand on one of the caps on the side of the hydrant and moved her other hand to the green patch on her top. And with the activation of her quirk, the cap started to turn green as well. Not only that, but it became less solid. It almost looked like it was melting in place and then evaporating. What was really happening was that the cap was changing state from metal to gas. It still held its form, but now that it was in a gas state the water it held back could pass right through it. This was going to be the case for a short time before Lani's quirk wore off and it solidified again. And, of course, with the sudden sprayed of water, Lani was pushed back by the stream and soaked, not that she minded. What was important now was that Sean had plenty of water to work with. "Dammit! That good!?" She yelled as she scrambled out from under the stream and tried to speak over the gushing water. 627 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

Sean smiled as he saw that the girl was indeed here to help. But then that smile would soon become a look of confusion. Her actions seemed odd to him. Just what exactly was she doing? Was it something to do with her quirk? Fortunately, his question would not take long to answer. Once the girl touched the cap of the fire hydrant, it became green in color. And it seemingly vanished, although that was not exactly what had happened. Sean was not really questioning the specifics of how the girl's quirk was working. He was just letting her do her thing, all while being amazed as he watched it all happen.
Suddenly, water began pouring out of the fire hydrant. Sean's eyes lit up in amazement. "Damn, this is awesome! Just what I needed!" Activating his quirk once more, Sean began to make the pouring water levitate around him, gathering as much of it as his concentration would allow him to carry. As soon as the boy had gathered a sizeable amount, he grinned as he looked at the girl. "I really appreciate it. Thank you so much!" However, Sean did not have time to waste. He needed to move, and fast!
Moving as fast as he could while still maintaining his concentration, Sean headed back to the storehouse. With the amount of time that had passed, the blaze had grown into quite the inferno! But Sean was not worried. He was determined to put this fire out once and for all! With a grin, Sean began to change the shape of the large mass of water that was hovering beside him. It became serpentine in shape and began to gain the features of a traditional Chinese dragon.
"DRACO DELUGE!"
Pointing in the direction of the spreading fire, Sean launched the water dragon towards the fire. The dragon rushed through the air and crashed into the flames with a mighty splash. Dragons were often associated with fire, but this particular dragon would help put it all out. After the initial splash, the water dragon reformed, and then shot towards the flames again. On and on this went, water splashing all over the interior of the storehouse, viciously assaulting the flames while the blue-haired boy was being careful not to damage anything else.
With the repeated onslaught of the water dragon, the flames would become smaller and smaller until only small embers remained. However, Sean would not stop until it was all gone. Only after the storehouse was completely devoid of all flames and all of the smoke was cleared would the boy finally be satisfied.
"Oh yeah! Another one bites the dust!"
As the boy smiled, proud of the hard work he and that girl had done, he now began to wonder three things. First, what was the name of the awesome heroine who made the fire extinguishing possible? Second, how did this fire even start in the first place? And third, where should he put all of this water?

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani nodded as he appreciated her help and made use of the opportunity that she had given him. What came next was exactly the kind of thing that Lani loved. The use of the boy's quirk to form the water and use it to cleanly put out the flames inside. Her eyes widened a bit as the boy spoke the two words that seemed to have no meaning at first. But as the stream of water moved through the air thanks to his quirk it formed into the shape of a serpent. The words he spoke were a name, the name of a signature move! It was fucking cool! A wide smile grew on Lani's face as if she was on the sidelines watching some cool hero on the news performing some amazing act. "Hell yeah!" She cheered as the roaring water serpent splash through the storehouse and doused the flames within it. A few erupts and ember snipes later and the place was saved. Sure, it was scorched and soaked, but it wasn't completely engulfed or destroyed.
Just like that, Sean had saved the property inside and made a damn good show of it! Lani wasn't the only one watching this either. A few others had stopped to see what was going on. Some were even on the phone speaking with the police and reporting the fire. They had to change their explanation over the course of the phone call both to their relief and the relief of the person on the other side of the line. As the last of the flames were being put out, Lani deactivated her quirk's effect on the fire hydrant cap. The color of the cap returned to normal and as such, the cap became solid again. It hadn't moved from the tightly locked position it was in, despite all the water that passed through it. And once the cap was solid the water stopped. The fire hydrant was just like it was before when Sean was trying to open it. Locked tight and secure. Lani then ran over to where Sean was. She gave him a hard wide open palm slap on the back with a laugh. "That was fucking cool man! Good shit!" She cheered as she looked at the storehouse. This was exactly the kind of heroics that Lani lived for and Sean was a great example of it all. "Lani by the way? I'm sure I've seen you around the school. We kind of stick out, you know?" She said to him.
It was obvious that Lani hadn't met everyone at her school, but it was hard to forget meeting someone like Sean in Japan, even with all the foreigners that were attending. If he chose to introduce himself, Lani would acknowledge it before stepping forward and heading into the storehouse itself Something her to have started the fire and it didn't just appear by itself. Underneath all the broken wood and scorched materials and fallen items, there had to be a clue at what caused all of this. And if the two of them looked enough they would find a small black egg-shaped coal buried in one of the corners of the building. 535 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

words: 452 tag: Lani Bijan notes: Looks like we got a mystery on our hands |
Sean was happy. The fire was put out, and unlike that time in the circus tent, there was nobody inside the storehouse who was hurt or in danger of getting hurt. All was well now! As Sean turned around to leave (and figure out what to do with the water dragon he had hovering beside him), he was surprised at the people who had suddenly shown up. Were they always there? With how concerned Sean was to put out the flames, he was too focused to realize that they were there the whole time. Sean smiled at them all, putting his right arm behind his head while chuckling. "Just happy to be of help."
He then felt a slap on his back and noticed the girl from earlier. After hearing her kind words, Sean grinned. "Thank you! And thanks again for the help earlier. Couldn't have done it without you!" She then introduced herself, and also indirectly revealed that she went to UA as well. Sean was curious. Lani? Did he hear that name somewhere before? Maybe in UA chat? Well in any case, it was nice to meet her, whether this was their first meeting or not. "I'm Sean. I'm not sure if we met in person before? Well it makes no difference. A pleasure either way!"
As Lani went inside the storehouse, Sean followed her inside. The fire may be history, but it was still good to check what caused it. Perhaps there was a clue lying around here somewhere? Sean liked to think that this was an accidental fire and not the work of an arsonist. Still, it was good to check every possibility. Gotta be a hundred percent sure to be safe. It was because of this minute possibility that Sean did not deactivate his quirk just yet. If this really was the work of an arsonist, then Sean did not want to get rid of the water so soon.
The boy was not sure exactly what it was he was looking for, but he was persistent enough to not give up and to look everywhere multiple times if needed. His persistence paid off when he eventually noticed an egg-shaped coal in one of the corners of the building. If Lani did not already notice it before he did, Sean would get her attention. "What's this?" Sean did not see anything like it anywhere else in the building. That was why this piece of coal felt out of place to him. Maybe he was just overthinking things as he sometimes did, but something didn't feel right. Was this really just an accident, or was there some kind of foul play involved? "What are your thoughts on this, Lani?"

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani rummaged through the debris looking for anything that would seem out of place. She honestly didn't know what to look for, but the girl just couldn't leave it alone. Things didn't just happen out of nowhere. And since she was looking forward to enjoying the beach over the summer, having some of the businesses on the boardwalk on her good side was a great thing. Lani was abrasive enough as it was. And thankfully, the person that put out the fire, Sean, stayed to helped look as well. She smiled as he introduced himself. He didn't seem all that bothered by her and was pretty friendly, so Lani liked that. He was good peoples. As they searched, the crowd started to dissipate a bit. Now that the spectacle was over and the fire department would be here soon, there wasn't much to watch. And they didn't want to be roped in to being witnesses of helping with the destruction that took plac.e
A hands-off approach was a lot of what civilians preferred, which was why they weren't in the hero business. Lani and Sean were different after all. And sure enough, after a bit of time, Sean found something strange. At this point, Lani was squatting down next to a pile of burnt wood and carefully moving it back into place after she moved it to look under the mass. With Sean speaking up, Lani stood back up and arched her back a bit. She had to remember to keep a decent posture when she was squatting like that. "What's that?" She piped up as she turned to face him and the strange coal that he presented. The girl tilted her head to the side with a look of confusion. It definitely looked like coal, but it was a bit different. It was shaped like an egg and it was smooth. It was definitely an oddity as Lani had never seen anything like that before. And it seemed like a weird thing to have hidden in a warehouse that was just on fire. She took a few steps toward him and picked it up out of his heads. "I have no idea? But I think you're on to something." She said as she looked over the strange thing. "Do you think someone started the fire with this?"
Meanwhile, if the shrinking crowd outside of the warehouse that was looking from the boardwalk were a pair of girls that were watching the search with bated breath. Almost as if they were waiting for their own chance to enter the building once Lani and Sean were gone. Almost as if they had something to hide and couldn't just come back later with the two of them still in there. And after seeing the two students talk about something and holding it in their hands, they had to do something to keep their secret exactly that. "Hey! You two shouldn't be in there! It's dangerous!" One of the girls yelled out. Her tone was more of a scolding than one that was helpful. It was notably out of place but also worded for plausible deniability. They just needed Sean and Lani to get away from that strange thing. 536 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

The longer Sean looked at the egg-shaped coal, the more he was beginning to suspect that the fire may have been no accident. Lani's words only helped him gravitate more towards this guess. If this fire was done intentionally, if there really was some kind of malicious intent behind the burning storehouse, then that only meant one thing. There was a dangerous person around. Maybe even people. And if they were still around, if they wanted to make sure that the job was done, if they were moving in to check on why and how the fire was put out, if they wanted to try again....
Oh no! That meant that the nearby civilians could be in danger! If they did not care about casualties or collateral damage, then this could blow up and become a very dangerous situation! If that were the case, then it was good that Sean did not yet deactivate his quirk nor get rid of the water. Despite his body getting colder and colder from his quirk, he may still need it! More importantly, he needed to let Lani know about this!
Before Sean could do so, however, he was surprised to see two girls suddenly come in. One of them told the two students that it was dangerous and that they should not be here. To the sharpened mind, this should have rung up some pretty loud alarm bells. With most of the people leaving the scene, it was a bit odd, maybe even suspicious, for them to just come in. Plus, why were they basically suggesting that Lani and Sean leave? Perhaps to get them away from any possible evidence? Something just did not add up....
Unfortunately, Sean was anything but sharp-minded. With how oblivious and naive he was, he had no reason to suspect at all that something about these girls might be off. As far as he could tell, they were just two very concerned civilians who were worried for the safety of Lani and Sean. The blue-haired boy smiled at the two newcomers in a reassuring way. "Thank you for your concern. And I'm sorry if we worried you. But we're fine! Not to mention that the danger has already passed. The fire is gone! It's all good now! And perhaps you two shouldn't be here either if it's still dangerous."
The boy began to shiver a bit. However, it was not from the air or temperature, but rather from his own quirk. With how cold Sean's body was getting, it was probably a wise idea to deactivate his quirk now. After all, it was not like he still needed the water. The fire was gone, and with the fire department on its way, surely there would not be any worry about another fire coming. Surely that was preposterous, right?
"Come on, I'll escort you two out." As Sean began to head to the door while gesturing to the two girls to follow him, he moved the mass of water he was controlling in front of him. Wondering where he could put this water, the boy then just shrugged as he shot it in an arc out the storehouse entrance and towards the sand in an empty part of the beach. Once all the water was gone, Sean then deactivated his quirk and smiled as the shivering slowly became less intense. How relieving!
"Yo Lani, should we start heading out now? Or did you learn anything about that weird coal?" It was a shame that Sean was as dense as he was. If only he knew that the danger had not truly passed just yet....

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani looked up as they were called out for being int he storehouse. What was said wasn't actually wrong. It could still be dangerous inside of the storehouse and with the fire damage, it was possible that it might collapse. They found what they were looking for, so they didn't need to be in there any longer. They weren't the police after all. though, a part of her wanted to learn more about the investigation side of things if professional heroes did that at all. She wasn't particularly fond of the way they spoke though. It immediately put Lani on the defensive. She peered at them a moment and was about to snap back, but Sena spoke first. He was being more reasonable, so many Lani could be too. She wasn't one to hold herself back when she felt crossed, but she wasn't going to just act out in front of someone she just met either.
More importantly, as she looked to Sean, he seemed a bit out of it. "You okay dude?" She questioned as she started to step toward the outside and the sand that lined the beach. She didn't know the ins and outs of his quirk, so him shivering was odd to her. Lani wasn't cold at all. Either way, she left out with the odd item in her hand. And as the two of them exited, if Sean chose to follow her, the girls quickly put themselves between the students and the storehouse. They did notice the item in Lani's hands and looked to each other with a bit of worry. "You're not taking evidence are you?" One of them said, piping up about the odd item. She pointed to Lani's hand and even started to reach for it as if she was the authority on the scene and needed to take it back. Instinctively, Lani pulled it away and moved it into her hand that was closest to Sean in case they tried to grab for it again.
A smile grew on Lani's face as she became more suspicious of the two. "This? We're gonna show it to the police when they show up." She explained, nodded and looking at Sean to see if he agreed. There was no reason not to and they were witnesses to the whole thing. Who were they girls anyway? "You should leave it where you found it!" The other girl exclaimed. Lani shrugged and took a step back from them, to keep her distance. "I mean...I could. But I think it's a good clue. This guy here deserves some credit." She was referencing Sean and how he found the item. The girls were looking even more desperate now. They were definitely hiding something and they wanted that egg-shaped coal away from Sean and Lani. Surely with a little bit more prodding, the two students could get to the bottom of this. "Tell her to give it back." One of the girl's said to Sean, misspeaking at a critical moment. 501 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

Sean saw his quirk as both a blessing and a curse. While the boy was clearly a huge fan of water, with it being his favorite of the elements even before his quirk had manifested itself, he absolutely could not stand the cold. He disliked the cold, he didn't care much for snow, he hated winter (except for Christmas, that was winter's only saving grace), Sean just did not want anything to do with the cold. It was a rather interesting dilemma the boy had. While he could control water, his favorite element, it came at the cost of having to endure one of the things he could not stand. It was like a cruel joke fate had thrown in the boy's direction.
Still, Sean refused to just reject his quirk. It made him unique, and more importantly, it gave him the ability to fight villainy. If his quirk was capable of so much good, then he would gladly accept the drawbacks. That was why when Lani asked about it, Sean just smiled and gave her a thumbs up. "Everything's f-fine! D-don't worry!" Even with Sean shivering so visibly and his teeth chattering, he would not let that stop him from doing what needed to be done.
As everyone headed outside, Sean was not really paying attention to the fact that the suspicious girls got in between the students and the storehouse. However, he did listen as the girls asked if Lani was taking the evidence, and then Lani explaining that they were going to show it to the police when they showed up. Sean smiled and nodded in agreement. "Great idea!" If they kept the evidence on them until the police arrived, then there was no way that the ones responsible for the fire could sneak back in and try to dispose of the evidence!
Then one of the girls suggested leaving it where it was found. Sean could not agree with that. Why leave the evidence lying around? Sure, it was probably not a good idea to have touched it. But now that they have, wouldn't it be better to keep it closely guarded? Why would the girl suggest that? Unless...
"Yeah, I think the coal might definitely be something the police should have a look at." Sean then smiled. "Thanks! It was hard to find. I'm just happy I did." It seemed as though the girls were getting desperate. So desperate in fact, that one of them slipped up and asked Sean to tell Lani to give it back.
...Give it back.
Fortunately for Sean and unfortunately for the girls, the boy may be dense, but he was far from stupid. It did not take too long for Sean to understand. He began to grin widely. "Give it back? Why, I had no idea this was yours!" The boy then turned to face Lani with a far more serious expression. "I think it's safe to say that you really should not give that coal back to them. After all..." Sean then looked at the pair of suspicious girls. "I don't really think that anyone has a good enough reason to want to ask about the coal so much. Not unless you two happen to be the ones that started this fire in the first place!"
It was a serious accusation, and one that Sean would not make so lightly if he wasn't absolutely sure. However, he believed in his gut, and his gut was practically yelling at him that these two were incredibly suspicious. Their behavior, their words, especially that last comment one of the girls made, was all the proof Sean needed to believe that these two were the ones who caused the fire.
However, that brought up a great concern. Sean had just disposed of the water he used to put the fire out. If these two girls were the arsonists, and they had a way to make more fires, then Sean had made a huge mistake in getting rid of that water. Perhaps he would need it now more than ever. Was it too late? Or could he still salvage this mess somehow? Either way, it was clear that things were not looking so good.

these rapid eyes will keep on moving As Sean pointed out the mistake in their speech, the girl's visibly tensed up. They quickly released the error of their words and quickly ran through ways of trying to dig themselves out of the hole the just put themselves in. There was no way they could admit to the truth. Not when they could be held liable for what happened. But there was always a woman's best tool, plausible deniability. They'd pull it out in case things got too close to the truth, but for now, basic denial was the best bet. "Yeah! Give it back to the shack..." One of the girl's said in an attempt to reword the slip up that was made. It wasn't really convincing at all, but it was hard to be when they were caught in the way that they were. It was a hero's duty to stick their nose in where it didn't belong, but these girls weren't heroes at all. They were being nosy because it directly affected them and they needed to get out of it. The second girl put her hands on her hips and shook her head.
She pointed a finger at Sean to really add to the incoming sass. "How dare you accuse us? We just saw what happened and we want it solved as much as you do! Maybe it was you that started the fire!" She said, using the classic "no u" defense as a last ditch effort to get the blame off of them. "You wannabe heroes probably got paid to do it or something." Again, the other girl spoke, adding in details that didn't need to be there and only prove to cast more suspicion on to them. Lani raised a brow as she looked down at the weird coal and then back up to the girl. "So, insurance fraud or something? I guess that's a good reason to do it." She said in a mocking tone. Faking an incident to look like heroes was certainly a possibility, but getting paid to do something like that seemed like a pull out of thin air. Unless Sean was right and that was why the girls had done it.
Why else would they bring something like that up? It was here that things got too close for the girls to just leave it alone. They couldn't just give up now that so much was said and that they were accused of starting the fire. They absolutely had to get that egg-shaped coal back and talking just wasn't working. So one of the girls took a step back and then used her foot to kick up sand from the beach while the second rushed at Lani to try and wrestle the coal from her in the confusion. It was an action that nearly caught Lani off guard, but she hastily tossed the coal back at Sean for him to hold on to while the other girl tackled Lani. They would no doubt come after him too, but their actions made it pretty clear that he was right. 511 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla

Now things were just getting ridiculous. The two girls now tried to correct their blunder by suggesting that the coal belonged to the shack. From what Sean had seen, the shack was not some sort of sentient being who had ownership of anything, let alone a piece of coal. If that were the case, surely the storehouse would have began screaming the moment there was a fire inside it, or start complaining about the coal being removed from it. Such a thought was hilarious to think about. However, there was no time for thoughts like that! This was a serious situation!
Sean could not help but chuckle at the girl's words. The more she and her friend spoke, the deeper in crap the two were burying themselves. You know you've messed up when someone as oblivious and naive as Sean begins to suspect that you're up to no good. It did not matter what the two said now. They had already convinced the boy that they were guilty. Any more words from them would only help make that belief stronger. Sean did not even need to retort, as Lani was doing more than a fine job with that.
There was this one phrase that went as follows: Actions speak louder than words. If there was even a tiny sliver of doubt left of the girls being the ones responsible for the fire, then the moment one of them kicked up sand was the moment that sliver was completely and utterly extinguished. There was no doubt about it. These two were indeed the arsonists! Sean instinctively lifted his left arm to cover his face so that the sand would not get to his eyes. In the meantime, he glanced over in Lani's direction and watched as she tossed the coal toward him. The boy was quick to catch it, and then he began to move quickly. It was only a matter of time before the girls would go after him next!
Sean headed down to the sands of the beach, aiming to reach the spot where he had dumped the water he used earlier. However, it was no good. Most of that water was gone now, soaked up by sand. Sean still had the water in his bottle, so if he absolutely had to use his quirk, he would at least have a bit of water to work with.
The boy then came up with an idea. "Hey! Catch me if you can!" With coal in hand, Sean began to move down the beach, aiming to get as close to the shore as possible. This would present several advantages. First, seeing as he had the coal, it was likely that the two girls would focus their attention on him, probably leaving Lani alone and giving her the opportunity to do something without having to worry about the girls getting in her way. Second, if Sean could get close to the ocean, then that was a lot more water for him to work with if he absolutely needed to use his quirk.
The real plan, however, was to stall for time. If Sean could distract the girls long enough and get them to try their hardest to go after him, then that would give the police more than enough time to get here without these girls making a run for it. He just hoped that this plan of his would work.

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Sean was quick to pick up on the fact that they had to keep the weird coal away from the girls. And with their attack, it was pretty clear that they were the ones responsible. As for the girl that tackled Lani, it was a problem. A lot of effort was put into not smacking the girl down. Lani tussled with her a bit, but it was mostly to get the girl off her rather than to hurt her. Lani's first instinct was to smack her right across her head. However, that was probably not the best idea. She was supposed to be a hero and using unnecessary force was not a good thing Even if it was her not using her quirk and even if they were criminals, Lani had to be more reserved. She hated villains and the things they did, but these girls weren't that bad. They didn't actually hurt anyone until they tried to get the item back from Lani. And as for Lani, she wasn't so fragile that she needed to hurt them to stop them. So once she was loose of the girl's grasp, Lani rolled in the sand to get free of her and prevent the girl from grabbing her again. She quickly got up and looked to see the other girl chasing after Sean in an attempt to get the item back. And Sean, hew as doing exactly the right thing, stalling for time.
In fact, as Lani got back on her feet, she could hear the sirens of the fire truck coming closer. Sure, the fire was out, but that didn't mean the fire station and the police department wasn't going investigate. It was arson after all. What Sean and Lani needed to do was keep the girls distracted enough for them to be surprised with they did finally arrive. So in tandem with Sean, Lani ran along with him, waving her hand toward herself for him to pass the coal back at her while the girl chased them. It was going to be a game of hot potato they could keep up until the authorities arrived. As for keeping out of their grasp, it wasn't too difficult. They were just teenagers while both Lani and Sean were trained to be heroes. The difference in athletic ability was pretty noticeable. And sure enough, after some time, the first sign of authority was spotted.
Now, Lani was pretty rebellious in nature. But with her most admired hero being one that worked with the police on good terms, Lani wanted to do the same. Once the coal was passed back to her, she ran straight for them. And the girls chasing Sean and herself followed. They only slid to a stop once the police came into view and they realized what was going on. They were caught. Sure, the police had no idea what was going on, but after some witness reports and a statement from everyone, it was pretty obvious how things were going to turn out. Triumphantly, Lani handed the odd item over and waited to give her say in the whole thing. It seemed this case of arson was solved without a bit fight after all. 536 | @seanmizushima | notes ulla
