自由自在
and under the spotlights, who are you?
Yojin sucked in air as the grass loosened, flopping upright so he was sitting, instead of lying flat on his back. Sparks danced in front of his eyes as blood rushed back into his head, and he tore off his goggles, blinking the tears out of his eyes.
I still have this.
Sure, he was battered, cut, and bruised, but he’d pushed through worse. Miku was starting to weaken. He just needed to--
Seeds rained down around him--Yojin sprung to his feet, expecting another attack, but it wasn’t one. Not a direct one, anyway. The little bulbs landed on the ground, and started flashing.
The mines again.
On reflex, he grabbed the cord of the makeshift grappling hook--one side was still hooked on his harness, the other still wrapped around Miku’s ankle. She looked ready to kick him.
That didn’t matter, though.
Yojin looked up at Miku--one hand on the cord, the other still limp, curled around the broken shard of metal, and grinned a wide, triumphant smile.
He’d smelled ozone last time the mines went off.
They were electric.
And right now, he was connected to Miku. A circuit.
Just like last time. I go down--I take you with me--
Yojin’s eyes met hers, defiant, furious, determined. He had no doubt she’d set it off. She was as stubborn as he was. It would just come down to who passed out first.
He held his other hand out, ready to fling the shard of metal into the mines.
It felt like the eyes of the crowd were burning into his back. His parents. Friends. Chimera. Tsutsuji-sempai, Giest-sempai--hell, half of Tokyo.
He threw the shard of metal into the bulbs, still connected to Miku through the cord.
Kamikaze.
Was every round going to end like this? Win, lose--
This wasn’t about his quirk anymore. He’d proven his gear. If he won now, it was through pain tolerance and pride.
Wasn’t I a coward?
“YIELD!” Yojin heard himself yell--but it was too late.
The shard of metal hit the bulbs. Yojin tried to let go of the cord.
And everything after that was a little fuzzy.

[[
- Yojin stands up.
- Yojin grabs back onto the cord, and faces off with Miku--if the bulbs go off, they shock both of them.
- Yojin throws the shard of the metal into the bulbs to set them off before Miku can.
- Yojin yields, and lets go of the cord
- But gets shocked anyway.
- Miku wins.
