--- arisu ---
- - -
Fifty meters broad. Fifty meters long. Fifty meters tall.
Arisu stood in the darkened concrete corridor leading from the locker rooms near the arena, her hallway opposite the one she knew Jisatsu would be waiting in just like her. She couldn't see from this distance, not with the shimmering transparency distorting what could even be seen from here, and she didn't want to. She wasn't relishing this fight. There wasn't really, in her mind, a good ending. Either her or her friend was gonna go down here. There wouldn't be the both of them moving on- it wasn't possible. And for a long, painful moment, that darkness was what dominated her thoughts.
As the announcer started to announce the end of the previous fight and the field went down to allow the arena's stone platform to be reformed and repaired for the next match, Arisu shook her head hard. That was a horrible way to look at it. Not inaccurate, sure, but horrid. She knew Jisatsu. He wouldn't have signed up if he didn't want to at least get a chance to show what he could do. And no matter what happened, a cheerleader would make it into the second round of the tournament! That was worth focusing on.
What else did she know? Arisu ran through the scant details she had while she was stuck waiting for the next match to be announced. She had dimensions, though all that meant was that she had a lot of room to maneuver, though she had a suspicion that Jisatsu might have the edge in maneuvering capability. She was, if she was honest, worried about that. She was a decent shot, quick and could stop and turn on a dime, but Jisatsu was a bloody rabbit. If this fight had a theme song, she'd have to work her ass off to make sure it wasn't "anything you can do, I can do better." She needed to make sure that the battle between them wasn't a shutout for either side, but left them both looking awesome. That's why they were putting themselves out here, after all. With powerhouses like Risaka, Rin, Jazmine, Elise, Tetsuko, and Darren all among the competitors, this wasn't an attempt at a win- though she sure as hell wasn't going to give away a win- but she knew what the rest of her classmates were here for. A chance to shine, to show off their skills and prove themselves worth watching as the progressed as heroes. And she wasn't gonna be the one that denied Jisatsu his chance to do that- though, if she was really honest with herself, she didn't think she could stop him from doing so if she'd wanted to.
Finally, as her anxiety quieted in the face of her resolution and focus on something besides the eminent importance of making herself look good, she heard the announcer call out. "And now, with the concrete carnage cleared from the court, it's high time the next round gets going! WELCOME- to the second match of Group Three's first round of duels! Please give it up for THE HUMAN HARE and FIREWALL!"
The crowd raised a cheer- mostly polite, due to neither of them being title cards in the tournament, but there was plenty of yells and clapping, to be sure. The whole event was exciting, even without one of the tourney's powerhouses in the ring. That was it, then- time was up. Arisu turned and stared out the entrance a moment before forcing her eyes closed for the space of one breath before letting her eyelids slide back open as she started out towards the ring.
She didn't show off on her approach. She didn't want to draw attention to her abilities until it was time to fight- she wanted to make sure that both she and Jisatsu could stun the crowd with their maneuvering speeds and tricks. Starting slow when speed didn't matter meant that the abrupt explosion of the both of them into movement would increase the impact the pair of them made on those watching- and if she was right about how fast Jisatsu could move, then adding the layer of her own shocking approach being dodged could only make the rabbit look even better.
Arisu's long coattails swung in the breeze as she started onto the field of Ground Alpha between her and the tournament ring. Her fingers curled up to pluck nervously at the cuffs of her sleeves, feeling the thin material compulsively. Unlike the rest of her "Lash, the Human Hurricane"-inspired outfit, which was mostly leather and padding for protection, the sleeves were cheap and, in fact, detachable. She had about a dozen sets of sleeves already crafted from thin vinyl carefully doctored to look like leather on first glance, but the stuff would dissolve almost immediately once she started using her quirk, leaving her in awesome, shredded sleeves that lent the illusion of power to Antipyre's blackfire.
She maintained the illusion of calm as she stepped up onto the platform, bare hands flexing and tightening minutely to limber up her fists for the coming match. She didn't think she was likely to get her hands on Jisatsu at any point, if she was honest, but if she could get enough glancing blows, he might wind down before she did. That felt like her only hope for a clean win- and she wasn't at all confident that a clean anything was in the cards for her. She tried to meet Jisatsu's eyes from across the ring and offer him an encouraging smile and a discrete thumbs up. She really did want him to do well- even if she wanted to win just a little bit more!
The nearly invisible shimmer fell down around them after they'd stepped into the ring proper. Arisu lifted her hands, pressed her fist into the other palm in a momentary sign of respect, and then fell into a boxer's guard. Her arms were tense, ready for action- and so was the rest of her, eyes sharp behind her warding fists, the glands in her arms responsible for Antipyre's gushing black flames quivering, on the edge of blasting blackfire all over those limbs. She waited, the pause feeling downright eternal, as the announcer let the tension, build, and then-
"FIGHT!"
Arisu- no, Firewall- exploded into action in a sudden rush, flinging her arms backwards and letting the tension drive thick gouts of dark flames out of her arms! The propulsion launched her forwards at high speeds, instantly attaining the sort of velocity expected from professional sprinters, rocketing across the ring towards Jisatsu! She course corrected as she got close, launching a burst of frigid, exhausting flames at Jisatsu's right side and driving herself towards his left as she continued to approach at high speed, proving how sharp a turn she could cut by hurling another burst of blackfire towards the wall of the arena and sweeping it behind her as she attempted to predict and pre-empt what she hoped would be Jisa's instinctual dodge of her first attack, trying to come back at him from the easiest direction to dodge the off-center attack- his left side! She hoped to get a chance to splash a gout of Antipyre's dark flames across his smaller form before he could land from the hop to the side she'd hoped to provoke- but truth was, she wasn't as fast or maneuverable as he was, and even if he did fall for her bait, it was likely he'd be able to hurl himself to safety before she had much of a chance to punish him for the mistake!

ANTIPYRE
Type:Â Emitter
Rank:Â E
Description:Â Arisu can project and control a blue-black flame-like energy using her arms. It doesn't burn living things or materials, and emits neither heat nor light, but corrodes energy sources, exhausts living things, and renders substances fragile, to the point a simple punch could cause them to collapse.
Effects:Â Antipyre deals normal damage to objects, themed as a weakening or crumbling of its material. It deals standard damage to energy constructs as well, but inflicts exhaustion damage on anything living, draining their energy instead of inflicting physical harm. It can be used to fight fires, downed electrical lines, and other energy-based hazards of its rank or lower, and has the standard range (10m) for an Emitter quirk.
Drawback and Weaknesses:Â Antipyre's biggest drawback is its effect on Arisu. Not only does creating blackfire consume her own energy reserves, it also seeps into her bloodstream. The veins in her arms turn black as she pushes her limits, tracing back up towards her chest. If they reach her heart, they will slow her heart rate and, possibly, stop it entirely if pushed far enough.
Controlling it after projection requires large, clumsy movements, and if her arms are restrained, she cannot manipulate this energy at all until they are freed, limiting her to blasting the energy wherever her arms happen to be pointing at the time.
Blackfire BrawlerÂ
Type:Â Martial Art
Rank:Â F
Effect:Â Before Arisu realized she couldn't set anything on fire, she kept her flames close, wrapped around her hands instead of launched all over the place. She has a long way to go with regards to actual combat application, but has some practice ducking and weaving, and can punch hard enough to splinter wood.
Exhaustion ExpertÂ
Type:Â Enhancement
Rank:Â F
Effect:Â Constant exposure to Antipyre has left Arisu resistant to natural exhaustion- her stamina is improved, allowing her to keep on keeping on for a little longer than others might expect.
Antipyre Propulsion
Rank:Â F
Effect:Â Arisu has perfected the most basic propulsion maneuvers she can think of by using bursts of Antipyre to launch herself around. She can currently change direction in ways that would otherwise be impossible (making sharp turns at full tilt sprints, 180 degree about-faces without loss of speed), vertical or horizontal lunges across smaller rooms and gaps (5m or so), and allowing her to eliminate or reduce damage from falls, provided she is conscious to do so.
Accelerated Tactics
Rank:Â F
Effect:Â Extended practice with her own physical training and her propulsion techniques have raised Arisu's top speed significantly, allowing her to both run faster and control sustained blackfire burns to increase her maneuvering speeds as well. She can now reach speeds comparable with a competitive sprinter whether on foot or using her propulsion techniques.
