Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Although Naoru had no trouble with the small crowd the student body of the school made in the cafeteria and the rest of the school grounds anymore, the sports festival proved to be something else entirely. With the amount of unfamiliar faces around, he was getting more and more restless while navigating the halls or the garden. It reminded him much of his first few days at school when he turned and ran whenever someone so much as looked at him funny. Although he wasn’t that skittish anymore, partially due to the fact he did not feel the need to hide his quirk, he was still more panicky and anxious than on a normal day. This panic and anxiety was what drove him to the training grounds for the majority of his days. Knowing he would just break glasses and pencils if he stayed in a crowd for too long out of sheer discomfort, he decided it is better to help his body accommodate to the growth of his quirk instead. He only took a few minutes in his dorm room and changing into the standard U.A. gym uniform before heading out to the training area. He pulled on the black gloves that were nearly his signature items by now. They hugged his hands neatly. Unlike before, he did not use his full-arm gloves to hide his mutation though. Under the sleeves of his uniform, the dark red, marble-like left arm was fully visible. The feathers under his hairline were sticking out, and the reddish stigma was fully visible on the left side of his cheek. Those were all signs of his mutation, but only those, as his true eye-color was hidden yet again behind a pair of grey contacts. The training grounds were less busy on the early afternoon, as most people decided it was unhealthy to do training right after lunch. Naoru only had a little to eat, being the rare quirker who had no need to consume more nutrients than a normal human, so he saw no problem doing physical exercise right after. He probably wouldn’t gain too much attention if he went out now anyway, considering some of the students liked to bloat their quirks, being as flashy as possible to show off a little bit. Naoru had actual training in mind. His Aura was out and about, which made him just a tad bit calmer than when he had to willingly surpass it. The white substance covered both his arms, shoulders and shoulder-blades, appearing to be no different than a piece of clothing, as if Naoru was wearing a strange bolero over his training uniform. This was one of the forms he liked to give his quirk in a resting state. It was unassuming, but still present. It was motionless during the time he did the warm-up exercises, but once he stood in between a few lower classed training drones, there was the tiniest shift on his left arm. The fingers on his left hand elongated just a tad bit, forming claws instead of regular fingers, but the change was so miniscule people would hardly notice it. It just happened from time to time. A reminder that the arm was no longer made of flesh. During the military camp, Naoru realized he didn’t only need to harmonize his body to his Aura, but he also needed to learn a certain level of skill in fighting to be able to take his mutated body into account. For that, he will need a style, his own style of hand-to-hand combat, and for that, he needed actual practice. He was somewhat worried about going to the martial arts club, or asking Darren specifically for help, afraid he would just trouble his classmate. So the next logical conclusion was to search for indications online, and then practice alone. It had questionable use, and about that much efficiency. Hitting the drones with his palms instead of his fists, Naoru moved around the little square with dexterous, fluid movements, making sure to hit his opponents and deflect blows coming his way. If nothing else, he had the ability to make his movements unpredictable with the amount of agility he possessed. While he wasn’t fast, his dexterity made his body graceful and solid on his footing, and gave his blows the image of a white snake lashing out. In his imagination, the dummies gained the form of a person mutated into a bull, another a woman with her muscles bloating and tearing under pressure, one a cloaked and masked figure with a smile made of neon light, and a little girl that appeared innocent even though she was already probing his mind for answers. Let me out.He paid no attention to the little girl, and attacked the woman instead, he hit her left shoulder, then her head, and then moved away from a retaliating kick before turning to the bull. Another hit to the head and to the middle of its torso would send it stumbling backward, which gave him time to turn toward the one with the neon-smile. That smile was dripping with blood, and Naoru wouldn’t let it spill more – let me out – so he was ready to take blows and retaliate in a quick succession if needed, hitting the arms, the head and the arms again, punching the side, the front, and anywhere he could reach – let me out – preventing the opponent from using their quirk, but even if they did, he cared not, before he remembered a little girl being beaten to death and--- The drone’s head was sent flying, and the sudden crack that resonated through his ears snapped him out of whatever hallucination he found himself in. A few eyes turned to him, his slightly panting form as he was coming down from the momentary rush of adrenaline. Looking down, his left hand formed into claws fully, resembling the arm of a beast. His Aura covered his whole upper body now, like a coat. He circled around the damaged dummy, and looked towards where the broken head fell. “I am sorry. I hope I did not hit anyone.”words: 1023 I did not intend for this to be this long but it kinda happened! MADE BY VEL OF GS

Yusaku could thank his reflexes were...well...machine like. He caught the dummy's head with one paw, with relative ease. Like many, he stared at the guy that was the source of the commotion, until his database pinged him and told his mind who that guy was. So that's how Naoru looked. Before anything else could gather much more of a crowd, Yusaku hopped in front of the passerby and waved.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, deputy of the disciplinary committee here. Nothing to see, carry along, the situation is under control." He stated, trying to sound as authoritarian and imposing as possible.
For a moment, people stared at him waving around the disembodiesd head instead of Naoru. Then, slowly, the crowd dispersed. Once the situation had been defused, Yusaku drew out a long sigh of relief. A spin on his feet paws and the little robocat was found walking towards the aura boy. "N-naoru-senpai, right?" He inquired, shyly shuffling closer to the dummy to reattach the head. "Q-quite the show you did there. Thankfully no one got hurt."
Now that he was close to him, Yusaku had a moment to take in the guy's appereance. Something in his eyes looked wrong though. The little robot knew human eyes very well. Since his change, he had been obsessed with human traits. Whatever that was, it wasn't normal looking. You couldn't tell at first clance though.
Without asking, the robot leaned in on Naoru's face, practically staring. Yep. Something was odd. Could it be, that he was wearing lenses? He never spoke about having sight problems. It took him a minute to realize he was basically staring and snap out of it. "R-right. Uuuh. Are you okay? Perhaps you should take a time out for a bit, before you go out of breath."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures The edges of his Aura shivered just slightly, but settled soon to appear nothing more than a simple coat as soon as it was apparent he had not hurt anyone with that flying mechanical head. The person catching it, however, was a rather interesting individual, and it only took him a few moments of waiting and watching to draw the connection and realize who this person was. Although they have not met face-to-face, he remembered talking to Izumi Yusaku in the chatroom who always claimed to be a sentient robot with cat-like appearance ever since his quirk trapped him in an exo-suit. Naoru did not know the details, but he could deduce some of this from the little information provided in the chat. Yusaku was able to divert attention to himself with something that Naoru deemed to be a little bit of a lie – he wasn’t even sure if they had a disciplinary committee, not to mention if Yusaku was part of it. But his idea of sending the audience away was working, and Naoru was all the more grateful for pulling attention off his hide. Walking up to the robot student, he only stopped in his tracks when Yusaku whirled around and addressed him by name. “Yes, I am. There is no need to call me senpai, we are in the same year, in the end.” He answered, a little baffled to hear that he was recognized despite never meeting this one student. “Thank you for catching the drone’s head. I would have hated myself if someone got injured due to my carelessness.” He bowed his head just a tad bit, brushing the hair out of his face once straightening up again. “And you are? Yusaku Izumi-kun, I presume?” He really did not want to assume the boy’s name, but as far as he knew, there was only one robocat around campus. As soon as Yusaku leaned closer, Naoru automatically leaned away just slightly. “...Is something the matter?” He wasn’t quite comfortable with people staring, especially because his face bore that special stigma which was often enough the source of strangers’ glares. He did not pull his hair back into his face to hide though, like he used to. He got rid of that habit a long time ago, as within the school, he wasn’t the only weird one anymore. Still, a stare was a stare, and he was still getting just a tad bit uncomfortable from it. “Oh.” He breathed out. “Yes, I am okay, thank you for your concern.” He even allowed himself a small smile as he replied. The drones were still too reminiscent of his past opponents for his mind’s eye, but that wasn’t something he would be able to explain to anyone easily. “But a little break sounds good.” He was still far from getting exhausted from training, but the adrenaline was already rushing through him, so he would not be able to go back to the ring safely before he calms his nerves down. “I think I will go and grab a soft drink. Will you keep me company?” There was a vending machine not far away at the side of the gym where they could still see the open training ring. He would head there without missing a beat, especially if he could see Yusaku following him. “I have seen you a lot in chat, but never actually had the chance to meet with you. Did you come here to train as well, or are you just watching the others work out?” His voice gained a little mischievous edge as he looked Yusaku up and down from the side. “Or are you here as the deputy of the disciplinary committee?”words: 618 Robocat meets aura boy! The robocat would have pouted if he could. Well, his expression closely resembled a pout anyway. "Is sass the way you thank me for bailing you out of all those eyes?" He replied, jockingly offended. "Yes. I lied. But from the little I've seen up to now you don't like getting stared at either. You are lucky I'm a machine and I don't really blush or that plan would have never worked."
Apparently they were going for the vending machines near the trining grounds. "W-well...I don't need to train per se." he answered the aura boy's question. "You know. Servos and hydraulics can't really benefit from lifting weights or running laps and all that. Tho it's nice looking at the others exhibit their mastery of their own quirks through training. I just...happened to walk around this way, is all. I didn't expect to find you here, let alone meet you in person."
Leaning against the vending machine, the latter creaking just a bit as Yusaku's hefty weight pushed against it, the little robocat folded his paws together as he curiously observed Naoru order his drink. "So, you're competing in the Sport Festival uh? I got shoehorned into it and I really don't wanna go. I don't like knowing I'm being stared by thousands of people and recorded by cameras. It's unsettling."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures He couldn’t help but give a little laugh at the pout that was visible on the little robot’s face. How Yusaku was even capable of pouting was eluding him, but a little playful childishness was still visible even through metal and digital display. “I am sorry. People often say that I tend to act a little differently with my Aura out. Sass must be something I learned from my classmates. I hope I was not rude.” He paused and turned to the robot, giving him a little bow of the head. “Thank you for helping me out. I really... was not expecting to severe that drone’s head. That was an unfortunate miscalculation on my part. You are right, I do not like to be in the middle of attention, but it is something I will have to get used to sooner or later. So I can not complain. But I have to admit, being unable to blush can certainly come in handy.” He tilted his head just a little learning that Yusaku did not need casual training, not the way people usually did anyway. “That is interesting. Do you need to practice your maneuvers or other abilities though? I understand that your strength and defensive capabilities can be updated simply by installing new parts to your armor, but.” He took a moment to look at Yusaku’s body, seeing the joints and plates form a perfect exo-suit. “I imagine there must be something you need practice with. Or maybe it is just testing out new gear...” Naoru’s mind was already rushing a thousand miles per second on what exactly Yusaku would be able to do given the right amount of hardware and practice, but his mind could not stay distracted for long. “Well, most of the students are practicing for the festival, so many of them must be around the training grounds or setting up their club’s display. The arts club is doing pretty okay without me, so I decided to be here instead.” That was only part truth. Naoru needed the physical exercise to adjust his body to his Aura’s strength, and he saw no better way for it than actually work out. He was a mutation type, although a rather weird one at that, so his best bet was always to improve his body, to get used to the peak of his Aura. “I am not sure what everyone else thinks of me, but I am training more often than not. I am the other end of the spectrum, unlike you, I need practice more than anything else.” There was no hostility in his voice, and he hoped that his words won’t be taken wrongly either. He talked in a soft tone with a slight smile on his lips, so it was obvious it was just a casual conversation and no damage was dealt to his self esteem. The wending machine pinged as Naoru pushed the button for a bottle of iced tea. He pushed it carefully with his left hand that was still just slightly clawed compared to the other. Vending machines and him didn’t quite get along. Actually, no fragile machinery got along with him. As he was left-handed, he tended to break things more often than not, especially when fidgety or anxious for some reason or other. But ever since he had to clean up after he broke one of the machines in the dorms, he swore to be especially careful with school property. “Oh, I can understand that.” He nodded when Yusaku mentioned his worries about being stared at during the festival. “It is like the school wants to show us off for the world, which is probably more true than we think. It has logic behind it. The school has to show that the government made the right choice when supporting a hero school and creating the hero system. But being put on display is quite nerve-wracking. I wish you good luck, I am sure you can make the school and your friends proud.” He fiddled with the bottle in his hand, not yet opening it to drink but instead twirling it around in his hands, like a nervous tick. “I decided not to participate.” He said in the end. “Not in the battle tournament, not in any of the other school events either.” He did not go into detail why he chose to do that. It was a little bit complicated anyway. He threw the bottle casually to eye-level, but instead of letting it fall back down, a tendril of Aura reached out from around his shoulder where it was still covering him like a white coat. That same tendril then proceeded to screw its cap open. “But I will watch as much as I can, to cheer my classmates on. What part of the festival are you participating in?”MADE BY VEL OF GS

Yusaku moved to grab the falling bottle the moment it was let go, only to stop short as Naoru's Aura took care of the falling object. He straighted himself out, his tail twitching in slight embarassment. "I got shoehorned into the Cross School competition. I think I'll be doing some stuff against Adler dudes." He replied, trying to play it off. "Though I don't have even a smidge of will to do it. Even more so if I know cameras and a good few thousands of eyes will be staring at me, judging. Not only that, but I do not think it's the best idea. If find it all to be quite stupid to be honest."
The catbot folded his paws together and looked away in the distance. "We're basically letting the bad guys prepare to counter our quirks by showing them here. They will know everything about us, while we will always know nothing about them. If the goverment wants to see result, they could do test and stuff in secret. By boasting our powers out we are statistically at a disadvantage on any villain engagement. I talk from experience here. If a certain guy with large wings knew I was an exosuit and not a guy in armor, I could have died. Thankfully, he was like a kid and threw the best temper tantrums I have ever witnessed..." He trailed off in his own thoughts for a moment.
Returning his attention to the tea drinking student, Yusaku relieved the vending machine of his own weight. "Knowing you, you wouldn't even need to participate. You don't need higher grades, nor you need the actual fighting. You seem pretty capable of beheading people as is."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures He gave a kind smile to Yusaku when he noticed the boy move to catch the bottle. Even if it was not needed, it was good to know his reflexes were top notch and instinctive even. That certainly came handy during fights. “The Cross School competition, hm?” Naoru hummed, thinking to the times he saw the Adler students roam the school but never interacting with them out of simple social anxiety at the time. He only listened as Yusaku talked, watching him intently for any kind of slip in his body language or robotic tone. The mechanical boy was as hard to read as one could imagine to read a toaster, but he was still human. There were little things that gave his discomfort away and made it obvious he had a human mind while his body was anything but. I am sorry you had to go through that...” He took a few sips of his tea, humming deep in thought as he tried to give a reason or a better explanation than what the school provided. He had no idea who the winged guy he talked about was, but it was obvious Yusaku had his fair share of problems to deal with if he met with less than pleasant people like that one. “Well, even if you are roped into it, you are not forced to show off all of your tricks on screen. We will have to learn to adjust our strategies once our abilities are revealed. Many of the students will become famous heroes, and I can see all of their secrets and abilities being on display for the whole world to know from that day on. But they will still have to manage somehow. I am not saying this is the good way to go about it. I can see the strategic problems with showing too much but. At the same time.” He quieted, thinking more, taking another sip of his drink. “Civilians seeing what the students are capable of might give them some hope for the future heroes. Think about them instead. Impressing the civilians and giving them hope is the main reason for the festival, so maybe you can ease your worries a little if you think about it this way.” He agreed with Yusaku in that it was a dangerous step from the school, but he could still see the good side of it as well. The vending machine creaked as Yusaku moved from it, Naoru looking back at him as he continued to talk and change the subject. He tilted his head, frowning, wondering just why the student was saying those things at all. “I... am not sure about that. The point of the festival is not to get grades anyway.” He looked to the side, thinking back to the drone and what – who – he saw in its stead when he beheaded it. His Aura shivered in response at his hips where the white coat ended, mist-like shroud moving together with Naoru’s thoughts. “Sadly, I am.” He said. “Able to behead people, that is. The reason why I chose not to participate is exactly that. I need to gain a little more control before I can safely spar or use my quirk against anyone that is not a mindless drone right now. I need practice. A lot of it. And exactly because I am able to behead people.” He stared at Yusaku, at the display that showed his eyes, no smile and softness visible on his face right now. “That drone could have been a person, and I loathe this fact.”His face softened then as he closed his eyes for a moment to get his emotions under control. “Do you know who your partners will be in the Cross School competition? It is certainly easier if you are paired up with someone you already know.”words: 644 I see what you did there! Winged guy, hahahaha! MADE BY VEL OF GS

"No clue." The reply was fast. He expected it. "I'm going in completely and utterly blind."
What Naoru said next shifted the focus from Yusaku's own problems to the Aura boy. He tip tapped over and very gently poked Naoru's cheek with his paw, pointing at the guy's eyes. "As I see it, you shouldn't try to block your emotions. It's completely normal to have bad thoughts. This is real life, not a fun roleplay session where every character is just the stereotypical construct of someone's mind. Doing bad stuff happens. It doesn't mean it should define your existance though."
He paused for a moment, retreating his paw back. "As for your sparring concerns, I'm here and I'm free right now. As far as everyone is concerned, I'm nothing more of a bucket of bolts. If you take my head off I doubt someone would care." He told the Aura boy. After just a few seconds of trying to hold up an eye to eye, Yusaku was back into pouty mode. Something was bugging Yusaku and he seemed to be having trouble getting his thoughts out.
"You know every time I look at your eyes I feel like something's wrong with them. I know I'm obsessed with human body language and facial expression and all but I swear is this something from your quirk? Your eyes don't look like everyone else's. They do not feel natural. I mean, I can kinda read you're worried about this stuff but it's like you have this firm look all the time..." He started blabbing his thoughts at random, mostly at himself than at Naoru.
"Right. Uuh. Sorry. I'll have to drain a battery of two later maybe. But yeah what I'm try to say is: It's fine to be scared. Be scared, but do it anyway. That's kind of funny hearing it from me, but you really should find yourself a training buddy. Someone that can push you to improve. Besides, you ain't that scary. You're more cool than scary. I'd trade my metal body for your Aura power thingy any day of the week."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures “It will not be easy then.” He sympathized with Yusaku, not knowing what will happen during the competition. As he came over to poke at his cheek, Naoru automatically leaned away from the touch. “That is the way I am. It is not roleplaying.” He said with a somewhat melancholic smile. “I literally can not let my emotions control me, or my Aura will slip and break under the simplest touch.” He gave that as an explanation. Without emotional stability and focus, his Aura became fragile like a thin layer or glass instead of being the durable shroud it always appears as. “Thank you for your concern, but that is not something I can easily change. And not something I want to change either.” Despite appearances, Naoru was more stubborn than many of his fellow students, but he always had a good reason for it. He was also a master at giving partial truth to satisfy people without going into too much detail and having them ask too many questions. He frowned again, worry bubbling up when Yusaku offered himself as a sparring partner. “No.” He said, face and voice getting on the territory of outrage if he was not speaking as softly as before. “You are human, as much as I am. I would definitely care, and I am sure others would too. I apologize, but I have to decline your offer.” It was a sound and logical offer, and Naoru could see it as such, but still, he was unable to think of Yusaku as anything else than a human, even if the boy himself did not consider him exactly as such. “I will not spar with you, at least not until I can safely do so with any other human as well.” He couldn’t do it even if he would be unable to accidentally kill Yusaku. He was sentient, he was a living being, and there was no guarantee that he would not feel the shock and pain from being beheaded either. Tilting his head to the side, he blinked comically at the robot upon witnessing his pout yet again. Seemed like he really had different kind of concerns than a normal human. While he was not at all worried for losing his head in battle, he was bugged by the fact Naoru’s eyes were wrong, even though he had not known why. He couldn’t help but laugh a little again, looking at the boy endearingly. “Yes, they are wrong, alright. I am wearing a special pair of contact lenses, that might be why you feel something is wrong with them. I apologize that it caused you so much concern and confusion.” Yet again, he did not go into detail. He also hoped it would not make Yusaku too curious, because he was not quite comfortable about showing his real eyes to anyone out in the open so readily. “Oh no, I know that I am not scary at all.” He shook his head with a breathy laugh. “If anything, I am a pushover. Ask Aki-san, she always tells me I am a prey animal, and she has no idea how I manage to keep myself fed and alive.” He drank the remaining tea and dropped the empty bottle into the trashcan next to the vending machine after squeezing it into a neat little button with ease with the Aura tendril that held it up. He looked Yusaku’s metallic body up and down again, and nodded. “Ah, do not misunderstand, please. I am not dissatisfied with my quirk. Not anymore. But I still have a long way to go until I can say I am fully satisfied with it.” He paused. “You are a good person, Yusaku-kun. Metallic body or not, you might be one of the warmest among the people out there. And it seems you have the means to turn that warmth into strength to protect others with that body of yours. You should be proud as well.” MADE BY VEL OF GS
