--- arisu --- - - - The beaten path was for suckers.
That was how Arisu felt right now, anyhow, tucked behind a corner of the school itself during another of her short breaks between her numerous cheer engagements and personal interests in sparring bouts and demonstrations of all sorts. This wasn't any sort of fancy escape- she'd just fled behind the rows of booths and ducked out of sight with a bottle of water to get some time away from having to be "on." She'd been going since the morning, barring a very small handful of quiet moments shared with friends, and it was collectively all becoming rather a lot to deal with, since she couldn't very well take a nap mid-festival with the schedule she'd laid out.
It might have just been water, but she hated the taste of the stuff, and drank it for efficiency, not for pleasure. She upended the clear bottle and started to chug, draining the bottle to slow fanfare of crinkling plastic and rustling wrapper. By the time she was done, her bottle had imploded in on itself, crushed by the consumed water and the lack of air to replace it. Gasping for a breath, she spun the cap back on and eyed the trash can a dozen yards away, and then instead squashed the bottle fully between her hands and fed it to her flames, letting the dust sprinkles down between her fingers as it corroded into powder.
She brushed her hands against each other before starting to lean against the wall and realizing she shouldn't- she was still in the new cheer outfit, and she didn't want to get it dirty, so instead, she huffed a sigh and sat on her heels, crouching down to poke despondently at the dust of her little recycling project. She was tired- and she'd put her friendly face back on in a few minutes, but right now, she just really needed the chance to... be tired without feeling like she was letting anybody down.

He wasn't far off trying to deal with the headache of all these overly cheery or self righteous ideals. There was a plethora of reasons why this place burned at his spirit and slowly gnawed at his irritation. He took a few dragons from a smoke he'd rolled. The deep burn in his lungs a relaxing sensation with how the last few weeks had been.
He'd been a bit out of the way off to the side alleys and behind things taking a brief moment to himself. Given he had a bit more free reign during the festival's open season as long as he remained on actual school grounds he was able to breathe freely outside and fee less constricted or trapped to his room. His heavy breaths exhaled small puffs and clouds of smoke into the air. The lightly funky smell only drifting to the immediate area so it was unlikely any of the teachers or other students would have noticed or at least so he believed.
He did think he heard something thought not far off. Putting the rolled cigarette out by grinding the flame into palm of his hand and slipping it back in his pocket. Eyes scanning around the back hidden area trying to look about as if to make sure no one was watching him.
(hope this okay was having trouble thinking of a way to get going)

"Your cigarette smells funny."
Arisu spoke up from her spot without moving. She wasn't particularly stealthy, but she also wasn't very large or prone to fidgeting. It wasn't super surprising that she might not have been seen at first glance. Speaking of glances, she gave Sutetchi several, looking him over before putting things together. "Stitches. Got it. That's where Sutetchi comes from, isn't it? Unless- you're someone else entirely, in which case, um. Sorry." Her tone was a little flat. With her internal tanks low, it was a lot harder to put on the honor student, cheerleader, ray of sunshine act. She wanted to, but at the moment, the effort to be... that version of herself was so exhausting a thought that she didn't even attempt it, and just blinked blearily at Sutetchi.
"I'd offer you a seat, but there aren't any, really. I can move if you want to lean on the wall, though. I'm not gonna. I've still got performances later. Can't get the outfit dirty, there's no time to launder," she explained, glancing away. She didn't really expect Sutetchi to take much interest in the regulations around the cheerleading club, after all. "You just need a moment out of the rat race, too?"

He felt himself only taking in a deep heavy inhale of smoke feeling a growl reverberate on the exhale when someone seemed to wonder up on him. He couldn't help but raise a brow though when he turned to see just who'd been talking to him. A bit off in the distance away from all the loud noises and games the rest seemed to be indulging in before the big events soon to come when all eyes would be upon the students of UA.
He smirked lightly flicking some ash with a flick of his finger as yellowish eyes seemed to look her over once or twice trying to place her or see if she popped out at him somehow as someone he'd know or at least someone he should perhaps now. A look of light irritation and confusion momentarily linger on his face.
"Do I know who you are?" Feeling himself growl lightly at the bit about his name. Breathing extremely deep on one inhale as he tried to take in the scent of her and the area. "Maybe, Allot of the faces can get a bit annoying. Irritating really the longer you have to be around most of the people back there." Walking a few steps closer to her to get a better look at her as well as to gauge how she'd react. Offering her the hand rolled cigarette as well in a gesture once he got close enough. His arm extended showing patches of discolored skin in areas and stitches separated in several places.

"Whoa, hey. Chill, I was here first, no need to get territorial. I promise, I haven't got the energy to be sneaky right now." It was a shot in the dark, but better than nothing to give her a shot to address what might be straining this little introduction out the gate. She relaxed- a little- when he didn't seem to have much issue with what he saw, at least, and nodded as he asked if he knew her.
"Arisu- Disukodo Arisu. I'm on chat a lot. We've talked a couple times." She smelled like soap, and a little sweat, the faint floral-fruity remnants of a girl's hair care products. She had to force out a little laugh as he commented on how aggravating strangers could get, shaking her head. "It's not quite like that for me, just- tough to be... on 24/7. I needed a little time out of the spotlight to breathe, and get a drink, and... not look like a prim and proper cheerleader for a few."
She looked up and gently waved off the offered cigarette, though it earned him a smile. "I appreciate it, but it's not my habit. Besides, pretty sure I'd get nailed almost immediately if my cheer outfit turned up smelling like smoke. But, again- thanks." Her eyes drifted to the sliver of the crowd she could see between the booths and tents. "... what do you think? You've actually spent time around different crowds. Where do you feel at home? Like, people-wise. What crowd feels like yours?" She glanced at him for his answer, shrugging a little. "I don't know that I've found mine yet, so it's cool if you haven't. And I can drop it if it's a little too heavy a topic for chilling out."

He raised one eye brow a bit curious as he tried to search his thoughts thanking of the often rampant and odd chat he indulged in to keep entertained in the times he was restrained as well as confined to his room. There had been plenty of times it had been one of the few means of entertainment he actually had. But he didn't always keep in mind too much of what was actually said or implied. It was just a means of fun for him after all. Most of these peoples, their lives, their desires... It didn't really mean much if anything to him. He could count the number of peoples whose lives actually mattered to him on one hand. Passing hero course to him was purely a means to keep out of jail and keep in his lovers arms.
"I suppose I remember you... vaguely. Its not often I just stumble upon someone. Usually when I sniff out a fellow classmate I'm fully aware and after them somewhat. Guess I'm just not used to such a sporadic meeting." He seemed annoyed if not unenthused as she spoke of cheer leading and leaving the spotlight. He cared very little for all the clubs and activities the students had for their in between classes. Rolling his eyes even at the idea of why she'd refuse the smoke putting it out on his hand twisting it as for a brief moment the scent of burning flesh would be smelled as he scarred his flesh before dropping the twisted cig towards the ground. He blew out a sigh and heavy breath unsure what to think of what she said rolling his eyes looking at the crowd and back to her as if he at least pondered he question and wasn't just ignoring her.
"I'd rather not feel at home among these people... Just a bunch of kids that wanna pretend to be heroes cause they were born with fucked up powers. I feel at home with only one person here. Beyond that I couldn't really care." He'd say with almost a hint of malice in his voice as if he truly despised the normal people and would be heroes. A hiss in his voice if he even caught a glimpse of so called professional heroes. "I think the idea of whats needed to fight the real bad guys with super powers isn't heavy handed enough. A bunch of kids in costumes... I'd feel more at home if we had some idea to actually do what was needed to really cull the evil. Besides it'd be more merciful to kill villains anyway then capture them. The shit they do to restrain quirkers in jails can be down right barbaric. But yea... If I was gonna feel at home things would have to get allot harder around here." Drawing in a heavy breath of the cool chill in the air. The cool almost cold weather didn't really seem to bother him all that much. His discolored skin patches almost not registering the cold and more often then not were a bit cold to touch as well. He looked at often felt truly like a walking corpse.
"Why are you here? Do you wanna be one of those heroes? Where a fancy costume and catch the 'villains'... God doesn't that sound stupid? Literally calling themselves heroes and villains?" He couldn't help but laugh feeling like the whole system and idea was one big joke from the good guys to the bad. "Maybe I'm being to harsh so you'll have to forgive me. Our current pro's are utter trash so maybe this school will have a few to change my mind on that. Whose really to say right?" Turning to face her with yellowish almost dead eyes that seemed glow wide along with his grin that looked almost malicious in nature. His edged shark teeth glimmering from the fresh venom that at times coated them when he got excited. He didn't sound like a 'hero' he didn't sound merciful. But he didn't seem to hide behind anything either. He was upfront and a what you see is what you got type of mentality. He seemed to often look her mostly if not always right in the eyes. Only ever breaking eye contact briefly. Although it wasn't really a sign of respect more always watching for any twitch or sign of disgust or revoltion. A glimmer of fear perhaps he always enjoyed. His chest was open to see from under his jacket as he often wore his clothes as such. The twisted colors and textures of his rough skin almost like that of a corpse yet smooth and clean in other spots. The stitchings some fresh and some old. AS if a boy pulled from a horror movie directly.

--- arisu --- - - - Arisu watched him as he tried to remember her, quirking a corner of her mouth up as he said he sorta kinda remembered her. "That's fair. I'm kind of a troll when I'm in the chat room. Not always the most memorable ID, to be sure. And I can get that you're more used to meeting than... I dunno, being met. Gotta feel more in control when you're the, um. Pursuer and not otherwise." It did kinda sting to be less than memorable, and she was short on the sort of energy she used to deflect that kind of disappointment, and it showed in her eyes.
Arisu listened to every word he shared on his feelings about the people here, the people they were at school with, and everything else, eyes on him, watching quietly. She wasn't judging, just- observing, as if the act of casting judgment was something that, again, was simply beyond her current energy levels. Once he explained, she nodded slowly and offered her answer to that question, staying crouched onto her heels, eyes wandering the edge of the stalls and their own surroundings while they spoke.
"... that bit you said about restraining quirkers. That's- what I'm here for. Not because I think that more quirkers need put in prison. But because I want to make sure we don't all end up there." The wind blustered cool for a moment and threw the dust that had been her water bottle into the air, carrying it off just above ground level while she watched. "I don't think it'd take much to turn public opinion firmly against us all over again. And I'd rather be working to remind people that not all quirkers are horrible, predatory people, than sitting back and hoping that work gets done. Bad news sells better than good news. The media is exactly what it's always been, bread and circuses- the, uh. Idea that as long as people aren't starving or bored, they'll be docile and governable. It's just turned into a business." The sentiments might be surprisingly politically savvy for a cheerleader, depending on Sutetchi's opinions on that people-group.
"I just don't want to end up on the other end of a witch hunt- me or anyone like me. And it feels like my responsibility to try to head that possibility off by putting positive quirkers- heroes, as an admittedly ridiculous but marketable term- in the spotlight so that the news isn't just saturated by quirker crimes. I know that's kind of an ultimately self-serving reason to be a hero, but- that's my motivation. Getting to help and protect people is kind of an extremely welcome byproduct." Arisu glanced back, checking on Sutetchi to make sure she wasn't absolutely pissing him off or something before continuing. Her tone was low, tired- almost gentle, but a touch too flat to specifically be coddling. "And I don't know that killing quirker criminals is really the answer. You have a far better idea of what being imprisoned means, and I'm not in the slightest questioning your experience or opinion, but- if we just... slaughter the quirkers that aren't falling into line, it doesn't really reduce quirker crime, it just intensifies it. While yeah, the minor shit might die out, the alienated quirkers enacting those crimes won't have any less serious offenses to society that they're willing to risk death for- which means, if they commit any at all, they're gonna be way, way worse. That's... not so much something I've researched as just... my impression. You'd reduce the number of quirkers willing to commit minor crime, but drastically increase the number who feel it's worth their life to try to strike a blow against a society that clearly doesn't value their lives."
Arisu spent most of the time looking away. She didn't seem specifically uncomfortable, just drained and without the fuel to go through all the niceties of social interaction while also pulling together her ideas on the politics of heroism and lethal policing. She did look back up every so often, and held his gaze while she did, each look away smoother and more... distracted than uncomfortable or flinching. She looked back now, as well, studying him with an apologetic wince on her face. "... I really hope that doesn't sound like absolute garbage to someone who's actually had to go through that system. It's not a lack of empathy for those willing to commit or driven to crime, it's just- utilitarian, I guess." TAGS: WORD COUNT: 757 TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ BOTE & THQ

He couldn't help but laugh whens he spoke about ensuring quirkers didn't end up in prison. The idea truly breaking a genuine grin and heavy laugh from him for a few moments. His hand on his chest as he seemed to find it funny in quite a few ways. "Are you gonna ask them to just kindly change their ways and be good boys and girls? Those people who could turn on us so easy are scared of us. They force some people like us to only have options like crime to survive. Then beach and cry for others like us to come save them. I can understand your vision don't get me wrong! But there's no way those normies would ever fully accept us. They either fear or us or are envy us... WE evolved... They didn't an we all know what happens when some of a race fails to evolve." Chuckling growing at her and smiling licking his teeth with his strange longer then average tongue. The tongue probably not a human tongue as it seemed to glide along his shark teeth glimmering with venom within his mouth.
He listened and only seemed to watch her with dark eyes. His yellow shine within them seemed almost unnatural as some of the cells in his eyes were dead from his changes and carried a colored shine discoloration from it. He seemed to ponder what she said but but he chuckled from time time to time making it hard to tell what he exactly thought about it though as a whole.
"True villains, powered or not if slaughtered cease to be a problem. I don't need nor desire you to agree with me if you don't want too. But even if we do have to cut down some of our own to ensure safety of others I'd gladly do the same to those without powers as well. Besides... Who cares what they think of us. How many of us were there a generation ago? Or hell two ago? Now look at us... Fuck there's schools from other countries showing up to this damn festival. Do you really think 'They' are gonna hold the power for much longer? The future is coming... I just hope we're ready to accept it when it does." He moved closer to her breathing in heavy at the air trying to take in her scent but not trying to make it obvious thats what she was doing. "You know... I do wish I could see it like you do. But if it were up to me. I hope if this whole hero business doesn't work out. An they try and take me back someone has the decency to kill me rather then put me back in places like that." Leaning forward to look at her with eyes close to hers. "What about you... Would you rather be taken by humans that are scared of us to rot in their twisted chains? Or would you rather someone actually show mercy and put the light out?" He seemed genuinely curious. His hands down at his side as while his face looked entirely calm his hands were shaking at his sides nails digging into the cloth of his pants.

--- arisu --- - - - "I don't know!" Arisu protested, as frustrated with her answer as Sutetchi was amused by it. "I didn't say I have an answer to what we need to do. I just know there's something to be scared of and I'd rather get everyone used to the idea of us being around by protecting everyone rather than letting the ones scaring them into thinking we need to be exterminated get all the spotlight. Doing nothing definitely isn't the answer, I know that much. I don't- I don't care if they envy us. I'm not trying to cater to their feelings, because nobody's gonna cater to ours. I'm worried about our survival, and the smart play is to keep them happy. If heroics becomes a legitimate career, there'll be a lot less reason to turn to crime for a chance to flex. We could have sports events, all sorts of stuff for that kinda thing, and try to get infrastructure good enough so people don't HAVE to be criminals." Her tone was soft. She knew that it wasn't a 100% solution and never would be, but it didn't make sense to her to give up 100% because they couldn't win 100%.
The odd tongue, the sharp teeth, the gleam of venom- it didn't... scare Arisu so much as strike her all of a sudden. She was getting more of an idea of how versatile his quirk was. She'd known he could patchwork body parts apart and together, but it looked like he could snatch bits from other creatures, too. It couldn't help but be asked- could he take quirk organs?
Like hers?
He was on another point, though, and she tuned back in, frowning quietly. She saw his point. If they were willing to stop their own that had gone too far, surely it would be reasonable- proper, even- to cut down normal humans who went so far themselves. She caught and held his gaze, though, as he spoke of the power slipping from their hands. "I -know.- And that's what scares me. Cornered animals bite hardest. They must know they're losing dominance the longer things go, the more of their kids are born like us. I can't just sit back and do nothing and presume it'll all be fine just because we hold a lot of power. The truth is that we don't hold all of it, or even most of it yet, and if they really wanted to crush us, they still could. It's -more- important to handle things delicately now, not -less.- Do- you see what I mean? What I'm worried about?"
She didn't even consider the idea that he might be trying to catch her scent, and when he leaned down to get close, she stared back into the halfdead eyes, a touch of steel flashing in her own. "I'd rather not be taken at all. Anyone coming for me isn't doing so for anything close to a proper reason, and you'd better believe I'd fight to stay free. If I had to pick... I think I'd rather wait it out. If I'm alive, I can help make changes. If I'm dead, I help nobody. Not myself, not my family, nobody. So... if I had to pick, I'd choose imprisonment, if only to maximize my ability to make sure things improved in the future." The topic was clearly uncomfortable- she wasn't at all at ease with the idea of being imprisoned, but she had pretty clear goals and priorities aimed at improving the condition of the Quirked in the future. "It might be naive, but... that's how I think. And if you would seriously rather die than go back... I dunno. I'd like to think that I'd be able to help you like that. But I don't know if I could." He didn't say much more beyond that point as the debate seemed to fade from him. His intrigue still shown in his eyes but like a passing breeze his shoulders seemed to relax as hit appeared his interest began to fade as his eyes occasionally drifted back outward upon the crowd or towards the other students and pro's that made their way all about the activities of this festival only a few yards away.
"I suppose it really doesn't matter what either of us thinks really... Whatever is gonna actually come to pass between us and them... How they choose to deal with us and how we answer in kind. That'll decide in the future... What's yet to come will show who has the right ideas and who was wrong all along. That's just how it usually tends to go anyway. But if you want to hope for the best in such ways I suppose that's your business. After all I imagine quite a few of the other students share similar mindsets to you as well." Not clear if that was seen as a good or foolish thing to him as he ended his sentence. Looking away briefly up towards the leaves and branches that provided a cool shade in this small secluded zone for them. Taking in a long deep breath with his strong nose. The cool air refreshing and like many times before helping clear his plagued mind. His yellowish eyes turning back towards her as he moved in closer for a moment the gap between them becoming almost uncomfortable close.
"I'm not sure but if I'm not mistaken I saw you on the tournament registry didn't I? I'll be curious to watch you now. With ideals such as ours we both need to have the strength to back them up when the time comes... and believe me it will one day come. I hope you have whats required both now and then for that. I'll be eager to see how you do battle." He'd say curiously as he looked off towards one of the back side ways contemplating taking his leave shortly now. Pulling a cigarette from his pocket again. One slightly bent and hand rolled appearing a little distorted from being in his pocket but with a roll of his fingers around it able to for the most part straighten it and raise a lighter he produced from his other pocket and light it rather quickly. Placing it between his lips where it hung lightly from the corner of his mouth in a relaxed fashion as he spoke again without the need to take it out from or away from his lips. "I need to check in with Naoru... But, I definitely find you interesting. You don't seem to scare easily like others. You didn't even get intimidated at all with such opposing ideas. So many others I met would have just gotten mad or shy or blundered to get their words out properly. You have my curiosity to say the least." Raising a hand in the small space between them rather quickly curious to see how she'd react to see if she'd expect him to attack or do something suggestive. But of course he only moved fast to see how she expected him to act. The hand would stop between them though open offering to shake as he looked off towards the side path for a moment about to leave this place. A small cloud of smoke gathering around his mouth in small exhales. But if nothing else he had been kept thoroughly entertained by this little tackling if mindsets. He liked her spirit,...

"No. Nobody's shared my view, honestly," muttered Arisu, contrary to Sutetchi's initial presumption. "Most of the people I've spoken to are blind optimists. They just assume everything's gonna be peachy keen and- I usually get talked down when I try to speak about how volatile everything is right now. So I kinda just stopped. Nobody wants to hear about how quickly things could get bad, while everything looks like it's going well." Arisu shrugged a little. "But yeah, my perspective is my business. I can't really expect everyone else to see things just how I do."
"Yeah, you did. I'm up against someone else from the cheer squad- Jisatsu. He's been really nice up until now. I think- I think I can beat him, but I'm worried it's gonna make him look bad. I've been trying to think up good ways to let him show off some without actually risking a loss." Her tone suggested she understood just how arrogant that had to sound, but she'd done the best research she could, and nothing she'd discovered had suggested he had much training as a fighter. It was a rough match-up for him, and having a partner willing to make him look good was probably the best he could hope for in this sort of situation.
"Naoru's like- your boyfriend-slash-parole officer, isn't he? From what you've said in chat?" Arisu asked the question without any apparent judgment in her tone, though that was poor insurance against Sutetchi viewing it so if he wanted. "Ah... thanks. I- can't afford to get shut down because someone doesn't agree. I believe strongly in what I've said- and that'll be true even if I can't get anyone else to see what I'm worried about. Even if I can't convince folks- I'm hoping that at least I can sow a seed of awareness, you know?"
She didn't watch his hand when he moved towards her- she watched his eyes. That might be the most telling thing about her as a fighter- she knew not to get distracted by movements, but to watch the eyes and take the body's motion as a whole as indicators. He hadn't shifted his weight for a strike- the movement didn't strike her as offensive as a result. When his hand stopped, she glanced at it and took it, shaking firmly. She didn't have a ton of grip strength, but she seemed to make up for it with grit. "I'd love to watch anything you got involved in, too. Did you sign up for any matches?"

He couldn't help but chuckle at the concern she showed for opponent. Almost scoffing at the idea as he tilted his head lightly as if trying to take in what he'd heard. A raised brow showing it made him curious to say the least and likely didn't exactly agree. "You can't worry for your enemy like that. When you have something in your way you have to be ready to take it out or risk failing yourself. Hurt feelings don't save lives. Second guessing doesn't put you in a place of power and success. Not to offend but worrying about your opponent just gives them an advantage over you." He'd say with a light sniffle as the thought almost irritated him at the thought of it.
He smirked a bit seeming to like the upfront and direct questioning and atmosphere when she said simply what she meant. Sometimes Sutetchi saw it at a plus when people liked to throw their cards on the table. "Usually yea, He tends to be my parole officer if you wanna call it that. Does that make it hotter? Like a sleeping with teacher sorta vibe?" Sticking his tongue out the corner of his mouth lightly giving her a cheeky grin as he jested with her. Chuckling lightly at his own joke enjoying the idea of that saving it mentally later to toss and Naoru to try and get a blush out of him possibly.
He shook her hand his cold eyes just watching her. Not so much in surprise directly but just a silent observation. No emotion just simply watching in a cold unemphatic expression. Answering shorty after a little surprised as he had a moment to lapse unsure how to react. "No... No I'm not. Naoru can't compete so I'll be with him in the stands. As I explained I don't see any path here to what the world really needs. But I don't have a choice when it comes to being here. I'd prefer to make sure he's okay then compete." He'd say trying to make it sound dark and mysterious given his view of heroes. But in truth he just didn't want Naoru to sit alone. He saw no value in participating in his views he simply wanted to be by the boy's side. "This was a interesting conversation... I'll not forget it anytime soon. But I need to get back before I've been gone to long. Short leash and all heheh,... I'll see you around I suppose." He'd say curiously as a light briefly glinted in his eyes and faded shortly after. Like sparks lighting but burning out quickly in his darkened mind. Giving her a wave and taking his leave down the back path away from most the people and roughly out of eye shot. Ready to get back to his dorm and rest a bit more having had enough of social interaction for the day.
