To most it would had been an unexpected surprise to see a certain burgundy-haired lass wandering around the Sports Festival without a certain iron-blooded knight by her side. There were plenty of jokes made about that, from the idea that they were glued together, to the in her opinion most romantic one: That the red thread of fate had connected them. However, on this particular moment of the day Tetsuko Shindou was not at her side, and Elise von Eisenberg had taken this opportunity to do something which she had recently been trying to work on: expanding her social circle and getting on even better terms with the people she called her friends. It was for that reason that she had chosen to do something most peculiar: Rather than inviting Tetsuko to do something with her, who already had some plans for the morning, Elise had decided to send a message to a certain energetic teenager. She pulled her cellphone from the pocket of her tracksuit and looked onto the screen. It took only a few button presses before the message she had typed earlier in the morning to reveal itself: Hey Kirk! Today is the big day huh? I was thinking~ It could be pretty fun for us to hang out a bit together, and I had a idea which fits us perfectly. Can you meet me at the Obstacle Courses at eight in the morning? Elise And just like promised, she was already at the obstacle course long before the appointed time. In fact, she had actually gone as far as to inspect which one of the obstacle courses would work best for them, and she had found one which would work perfectly for what she had in mind. The first obstacle was quite similar to one of those exercises she had seen at the military demonstration camp. A low hanging net, only high enough for a grown adult to crawl underneath it stretched for roughly fifteen meters, upon which the obstacle course would have a pool of water that was thirty meters and required people to swim through it. Some might have thought: Why not just jump over it! If their quirks allowed it, but the various threads of steel wire in the air would make that impossible, it was as if a spider's web had been woven above the pool! Beyond the pool was a series of wooden pillars, each of them just large enough in diameter for someone to stand on top of, a pit of mud underneath it, just deep enough for a student to find it going up to their chest, and finally a twenty-five meters high wall was erected at the end of the obstacle course, a proper collection of footholds stretching out fo the wall for someone to climb. It was a solid idea of an exercise, and Elise couldn't help but grin as she found herself almost instinctively squatting while waiting for Kirk to arrive. "Wait why am I doing this?" The burgundy-haired lass mused softly, her cheeks flushing up lightly as she rose upright again and muttered softly. "Guess Kirk's Squatting syndrome infected me~"

The air was starting to be so thick with tension, that you could cut it with a knife. Each day the sports festival got closer, and each day, Kirk seemed a little bit different. He seemed to lack that usual "Bluster" he exuded, becoming more thoughtful in the process. He did keep his volume however, which made people wondering if he was sick quickly lose their assumption. It was just that most of it was running around in his head... Kirk had seen the some of the competitors from other schools. heck, some from just the other classes training. And those sights were on his mind. All those quirks that just felt out of this world in effectiveness or massive in scale, and naturally self-imposed comparison to his own quirk popped up! And as always, that kept needling his usual upright spirit downwards. Heck, some of his friends had amazing quirks, and he knew he might need to fight them out there. And with all that, the situation with his grandpa... It was very much for his simple mind.
His usual way of dealing with things when this sort of stuff happened, was working out. It had always been like that for him: putting energy on something else naturally made you think of said something else! But the subject of his training was now pretty much only for the sports festival, making it impossible for him to get his mind off of it. It had made him self conscious enough, that he had finally started training his quirk proper again, instead of concentrating on his sports tools, as hard as it was for him to come up with anything that looked even near as cool as everybody else, or nearly as effective. He couldn't help but keep sighing, while pushing himself up and down continuously with it, almost like punching the ground in a way, occasionally giving glances around himself as to not have anybody see it. (It was surprisingly embarrassing when he wasn't just quickly using it to bounce back up)
Now, during one of these awkward training sessions, he got a message by Elise, Tetsukos girlfriend. He had helped her learn beach volleyball one time, and occasional other awkward shenanigans, one time outright slinging a snowball at high speeds in her face, apologies following of course. Also, she had originally joined the sports club just to follow Tetsuko to his knowledge, but had proven herself very capable! ...And Kirk knew how great her quirk was. Apparently she wanted to meet him at the obstacle courses, and even Kirk knew what she propably wanted to do: Train for the sports festival.
At first, Kirk was surprisingly going to say no. He knew how fast she was, and getting his bum kicked at this point would be pretty much a critical kick to the moralistic ball fields. However, the big seed of pride still kicking in him seemed to take hold! What if he DID win? Well, that naturally meant that he could pretty much stand up to atleast one of the big competitors he was worried about, and that just meant he was atleast at a level playing field! And naturally, the "bets" prize was so huge that Kirk couldn't help but answer:
DEAL! Kirk
Kirk was pretty much right on time, as he made it over to behind Elise with quick little steps and readily shouted "GOOD MORNING!" He had reinvigorated some of his fighting spirit proper, now being back to warming up his body, readying himself for coming challenge! "I'll have you know, I beat Tetsuko back during Semper fi in something like this, so I ain't exactly a beginner!" A very bro taunt if he said so himself. Admittedly, looking over the track she had chosen for them to run through. "I assume you are signed up for the running competition then? Well you got the right guy to help ya train for that!" Of course she would choose the most regular runner of the place to try her own skills on!
...He was really pumping himself up for a little bit of success, dangerously so...

It was a typical response from Kirk, short, loud and to the point and Elise had to admit that she felt it fitted him so well. The loud and energetic demeanor of the Sports Club captain was something that always helped keep the burgundy-haired lass lift her spirit, and as a result, Elise had thought that Kirk might have been the best person to ask. Also, he was quite the sportsman, as he had proven during the various training sessions of the Sports Club, and Elise knew that for this particular exercise she would need someone who had the stamina and resolve to last long enough.
When the Bluster-style greeting came from behind her Elise spun around on the heels of her feet and looked at the teenager with a sheepish grin. "Morning Kirk~" Elise answered in her usual playful tone. However, when he gave that friendly taunt Elise couldn't help but snicker softly. "I wouldn't expect anything less from the captain of the Sports Club~ To keep up with Tetsu requires quite a healthy dose of stamina and speed, which will work well for this training." When Kirk voiced his assumption of her participation in the 'running competition, the burgundy-haired lass noticed her head lightly in affirmation. "Indeed, I'll be participating in the Obstacle course and the inter tournament among the students of U.A~"
She turned toward the obstacle course and soon a glint of excitement emerged in her eyes. "Although we'll be doing something a bit different from usual Kirk." The words likely would have confused the teenager a little, so Elise turned toward him and explained with a smirk. "An ordinary race on an obstacle course sounds a bit... unusual for a school training heroes, right? I'm assuming they likely will make rules which will fit with the theme of our school and as such I had a rather interesting idea~"
She gestured toward the obstacle course while she continued her explanation. "Teamwork is a pretty important skill for a hero to have, because not every disaster or villain can be dealt with on their own. Being able to work together on the go, and able to pull out each other's capacities to the limit, and even beyond would be a useful skill to have. And this is where this training comes in."
A short pause followed as she allowed Kirk to digest the information she had just given before she would explain the rules a bit further. "Simply said we'll be working together to reach the finishing line as quickly as possible, although our time is based on when both of us cross the line."
Of course, seeing how excited he was for a race she decided to give him a bit of extra fuel for that fighting spirit of his. "So Kirk~ Think you can keep up with me? Unlike Tetsu I'm a bit faster than her, and able to run longer so you better be ready to give it your all~" That mischievous glint in her eyes clearly was speaking book chapters! As if she was challenging him.

Honestly, Elise was always so bubbly whenever Kirk saw her, that it was hard to even think about her without her trademark grin. It was way harder to be worried with her giving him a bit of a praise, or well atleast he took it as it. He knew how tough Tetsuko herself was. Reason why he had brought up the previous competition. "Knew it!" He said loudly bumping his chest with his fist. Honestly it would have been a bit of a waste for her to NOT take part in it with her always hopping about with even Kirk having hard time seeing where she was going! However, one thing he didn't guess was her saying that this was gonna be very different from the usual fare... "Eh? What do you mean different?" It didn't look that different at first glance atleast...
He proceeded to listen to her explanation... and blinked a couple of times, while stretching his arms. It wasn't that hard to get, but did surprise him that is for sure. "...So we ain't competing?" He gave this confirming glance towards her, as she immediately did so... Kirk accidentally proceeded to sigh outloud. It was perhaps a bit disappointing, that he couldn't test his mettle against her proper... But on the other hand: HE DIDN'T NEED TO TEST HIS METTLE AGAINST HER PROPER! In that regard it was a surprisingly big relief on the poor guys mind...
Albeit when he realized he had sighed out loud, he proceeded to straighten back up, and Lifted his arms up in denial! "I-I mean thats great! Actually I myself am in the cavalry battle so...!" Yeah, proper teamwork was to be expected. Albeit, since he lived on sports and action, good team morale and what not were pretty much his natural effect on people around him! Or so he atleast thought with all the praises his co-players had been showering every time a break came along. "So, we gonna be taking an ordeal on together, and beating them back to their goal post! ...Or beating them on getting TO their goal post!" He corrected, his tone very leaderish sounding.
However, the girl next to him seemingly teased him about whether or not he could keep up with her. The competitive air returned with a vengeance, but since the goal was for them both, instead of for just him or her, he was ready to keep that tension up! "Oh believe me, I know you are quick! Who do you think you've been training with!?" He squatted almost to emphasize point. "But I don't need no slime powers for that! I just need my legs!" He slapped his thigh proudly! Thats some friendly intimidation if he knew it.
"Now, the workout is calling!" He lowered himself to lean against the ground, pressing one leg behind the other, just like a professional runner... As much taunting as he did, he knew what she was capable of, and after saying those things, he would NEED to keep up or embarrass himself proper. "On three!"
"ONE! TWO! THREE!" On two, he lifted his butt and on three, left on a full on sprint forward! The challenge had began!

It was amusing to see Kirk so enthusiastic about the fact she was going to be competing in the obstacle course. Although, a part of her might had preferred to join Tetsuko in the team-based battle, she still felt it was better for her to pick a choice based on her skills rather than her desire to do something with her lover. There were plenty of opportunities for those outside of the Sports Festival. "Mhmm~ Considering my skills it's best for me to participate in the Obstacle Course~" Of course, Kirk knew all too well just how fast and energetic she could be, so to say she would be a daunting challenge would be an understatement. Although, Kirk soon seemed somewhat dejected at the idea of a not having a competition against her, the loud sigh making her grin for a moment as she couldn't help but chuckle at how disappointed he seemed to be. "You'll have your opportunity to compete against me soon enough~ I don't plan to lose as early as the first round when it comes to the Combat Tournament, so I'll better be seeing you in the second round~"
The burgundy-haired lass answered him with a playful wink while stretching her arms lightly into the air. "That's right, we'll basically be taking on this obstacle course together, and reach the finishing line before anyone else does."
Of course, her teasing taunt seemed to work as he answered her statement with a rather confident remark on his own. "Oh~ I wouldn't say that I need my Quirk to be able to keep up with you~" And as if to showcase the meaning of those words she briefly stretched before lowering herself into the starting stance of a sprinter. "I put the course onto an automatic recording, so it will start as soon as one of us goes over the starting line, and end once both of us are past the finishing line~"
With Kirk preparing the count she started to prepare herself, and once the third count was made both of them broke out into a sprint. As Kirk might had expected, even untransformed Elise was fast, incredibly fast compared to the average student, to the point that she might had been comparable to an antelope when it came to her running speed. Fortunately for both of them the initial dash they needed to make was only a few meters, before the first obstacle showed itself: the low-hanging net they had to cross underneath. For fifteen meters they had to crawl, and what Elise might had lacked in strength, she more than made up for it in speed and stamina as the nimble little bugger crawled underneath the net. "Perhaps we should have put the net higher huh Kirk? Don't slow down now!" The burgundy-haired lass chimed encouragingly as they braved the first net, yet the second obstacle would prove to be more of a problem: The thirty meters long pool! And with the long web cast over it in a horizontal manner and going upwards, it seemed that flying over it wouldn't be possible. "Heh... hope you're not afraid of getting wet..."

Kirk turned his head a little bit as she brought up, that they would have a chance to fight during the big tournament... He proceeded to nod his head briefly. "I Ho... I mean I WILL be there!" Losing in the first round of anything would be embarrassing and insulting. Even if it was against someone at Elises level of speed. Heck, that was part of the reason why his friendly intimidation whiffed. She had quick legs, and it was hard for Kirk to argue against it. However, just before any sort of siren sounded, Elise decided to share the fact that all of this would be recorded! "HUH?!" His reaction was a bit quick...
As the rush forward began! With a mighty dust launching kick, Kirk took off at the highest speed he could muster with quick short steps to keep up the pace! Only to see Elise running quite clearly a bit ahead of him. Man, the problem of being big muscled was always the weight behind it. And with Tetsuko previously, it was clear that girls tended to be way swifter. Or that's what he told himself to keep things from feeling too personally embarrassing.
...And yeah, Kirk still couldn't shake the annoying feeling, that this was a competition... He just felt like he needed to show that he could keep up! He felt the need to show he could best her! "Uuuugh!" It was aggravating enough that he couldn't get it out of his head!
Luckily, the dash itself was only a short first portion of the obstacle course, and Kirk could see the next one already coming up to take his mind off of annoyances: A very low net... Of course Elise reached it first, bringing up that they should have propably put it higher... Like Kirk didn't know what to do. "Nah, that's a plenty of space!"
And Kirk already knew how to do it! With the last few meters, he proceeded to lean forward more and more. For a moment it looked like he was just gonna ram head first into the ropes! However, instead the boy actually dove forward reaching his hands outward as far as they could go, like a baseball making a last desperate effort to make it to the last base! The sheer force of speed and mass pushed him to about half-way point of the net on it's own! Of course, he would need to drag himself across the rest of it like a regular person, but hey! It was still an effort made! Heck, he proceeded to push his pouch against the net, making his crawl much more of a regular 4-legged walk! "This doesn't propably happen too often, but I take all that I can get from it!" What he didn't notice was, that he pretty much made it easier for her as well to maneuver, due to the pouches size...
The next one was a pool... And kirk snorted. "Are YOU afraid of water? I would only hope this was later!" Heck, he hadn't even broken a sweat proper yet, and already they were giving them a cooling pool?! Well, Kirk happily hopped inside with a big ol' splash and proceeded with big breast strokes to swim forward. He hoped he would gain a bit of a lead...
