Ken could hear his heartbeat in his in ears, he could barely hold it in he was getting so excited for his first spar in UA. He looked forward to the tournament, but once the sign-ups had been closed he had given up on joining the festivities and instead focused on helping others get ready for the coming battles.
Having trained with Noriko this morning Ken had accepted his first spar participant in Arisu, a girl that he didn’t know well but if she was so willing to spar with him she must have had a strong quirk. He spent most of his preparation time imagining what her quirk was, Ice manipulation? Muscle memory? Sword activation? There were so many possibilities that he began to piece together the fantasy of her being leagues stronger than him and no doubt delivering a good beating to him.
He was getting stronger just thinking about the beating she could give him. Right now he was in the martial arts club room in an attire that suited a wrestler more than a sparring student: He had on a black tank top, black track pants and running shoes, similar to what he had on this morning when he worked out with Nori.
When the door to the club room opened he’d greet the girl with a smile and beckoning index finger. No time for words, it was time to fight. If the girl came at his beckoning call he’d squat into a wrestling position, arms extended at his sides and hands at her. His legs were planted to the ground and he waited for her to engage him.
He expected her to go all out with him, thus if she threw a punch or kick he’d let the blow connect for what reason? That’d be seen.

--- arisu --- - - - Arisu wasn't long in arriving after Ken announced he was heading to the martial arts club room for their sparring match. She'd needed to change, but that was about it, and she arrived to their sparring match wearing bike shorts, a close-fit tank top, and dangling a pair of sparring gloves off her shoulders by a shoestring she'd threaded through their loops to make them easier to carry, with a towel hanging off the other arm. She didn't really know anything about Ken yet, besides his general friendliness and his interest in taking on fights sooner rather than later. So, she tried not to dwell on what she did or didn't know about him on her way over, instead rehearsing her own repertoire of techniques. By the time she arrived, she'd managed to absorb herself almost completely in her thoughts, and half-startled when she opened the door to find Ken on the other side. He was a lot more stacked than she'd predicted, more along the lines of Kirk's muscularity than any of her more average classmates. She herself had a lean build, reflecting the boxer's training she'd put herself through improving her energy levels and efficiency more than sheer muscle mass. She wasn't built like a fighter, she was built like an athlete, and that might break down a little of the inverse power fantasy in Ken's head as she plucked up her glove and towel and set them aside before proceeding forward to meet Ken after shucking her shoes to leave her barefoot, flexing her arms and going through a few brief boxer's stretches to warm up. As she squared up, she lifted her arms to guard her head, exhibiting practiced form as she did. She waited half a second, just long enough to be sure he wasn't going to engage her directly before acting. When she did move, it was a sudden lunge forward, one fist whipping backwards in a very clearly telegraphed wind-up as she moved to close the distance between them. For an instant, when she started to throw her punch, Ken might start to think he was facing a total amateur- she was starting too soon, her feet were too far away, and there was simply no way the punch would reach him with any real force. But then black flames burst from the skin of her arms and swallowed her fists and made it quite clear she knew exactly what she was doing. Rather than attempting to punch him directly, Arisu's punch had an arc, a hideously impractical downwards curve that made sense only once those strange black flames rushed down her arm and exploded off her arm towards Ken as she leaped into the air. She kept her arm aimed towards Ken as the rush of whatever it was her Quirk produced blazed towards Ken in a rush. He wouldn't feel any heat as it approached, even if it struck him- in fact, if it did hit him, rather than burn, the flames were cold- very cold, and rapidly draining- they'd leave him feeling significantly exhausted if they struck, an immediate warning sign that they were not at all safe to endure, even if they didn't cause the slightest bit of actual pain or physical damage. The rush of flames served a dual purpose, launching Arisu up and over his head, nearly touching the high ceilings as she shot over him, flinging a second chilling gout of exhausting fire towards wherever he currently stood as she came down, both buying herself some extra space between them and attempting to follow up on her first attack, whether he'd attempted to weather it or gone for a more evasive solution. As she came down to land, her guard was already coming back up, but this time she stayed back. She'd taken the chance to claim the element of surprise, but once she had, she gave him a chance to regroup. The black flames curled and coiled around her arms , swallowing them in the chilly stuff as she faced down Ken and took stock of what she had- and hadn't- accomplished with that little maneuver! Ken didn’t expect her to come at him in a strong dash, he still planted himself and awaited her first blow but he was impressed with her confidence. Still, his guard was stiff and he wouldn’t move, even when the materialization of black flames took on one of her punches. When she bolted towards him, he immediately held his breath once she made her wind up and instead of making an attempt to dodge her he let the attack brush against him.
Still, holding his breath his red misty aura wouldn’t wither as he would stand still with clenched fist now, squatting in stance. Due to his lack of feeling when his quirk was active the flame’s draining effects weren’t felt, but that didn’t mean they weren’t working. She was strong, he liked it, but he didn’t know if her flames were hot or just for show and once she propelled herself back he would begin her rush as another fiery attack hit him. Still, he would do everything in his power to get to her, clenching both fist and leaning forward as he charged at her closing the few meter distance between them in a matter of seconds.
Breath still held, had she not moved he’d throw a furious right jab at her, his left arm raised to guard. The punch, if it connected would connect to the center of her chest to which he would follow up with a haymaker from his left hand. Had she dodged his first attempt, his first instinct would have been to continue to follow her throwing punches, kicks, all of this assuming that she didn’t blast him to hell with what he assumed to be fire. Still, Ken was in an adrenaline fueled rage, thus he didn’t know what it was as any burning simply wasn’t felt. If at any point the girl stayed put to try and counter attack he would throw another right jab at her chest and would attempt to throw a left hook.

--- arisu --- - - -
Arisu didn't have very long to think before Ken came at her like a beast enraged. It was time enough to consider what she'd seen, though. He'd held his ground, seemingly either trusting his form or his quirk to keep him standing even if she hit him. So he was probably pretty confident in his physical strength- which lined up with the way he bore down on her, fists raised. She ducked behind her guard and prepared herself for whatever it was he had coming at her. Her boxing training would help to deflect the blows from anything vital, but she somehow suspected-
"GYAH!" She barked pain as the first blow landed- Arisu'd bobbed aside, avoided the direct blow and used her arms- each still covered in more of the dark, exhausting flame, to deflect his arm past anything important, but it hurt as much as if one of her boxing partners had hit her unguarded. She'd hoped that maybe she could stay tucked behind her guard and force him to exhaust himself by blocking with her Quirk-covered arms, but he hit so hard she wasn't sure she could handle his attacks long enough to wear him out without serious damage to her arms. Even so, the haymaker on the heels of that straight punch came so quickly she didn't have any choice but to stay behind her guard, duck and deflect the hammering force of the haymaker up and over her head without contesting it directly. Those glancing blows, though, were rapidly bruising her arms and she knew that even with every blow against her arms tearing Ken's energy away, she was going to fold far faster than he was if she didn't find a way to go on the offensive.
Ken had shown off his intense speed when she rushed her- it wasn't something she could even hope to keep up with, s trying to buy space for herself wasn't going to work. His power was overwhelming her defenses- she needed to find ways to get away from his blows, and if she couldn't outrun him...
Flames burst from those coating her arms in two short bursts, propelling her in a rapid burst beneath the outstretched haymaker and throwing her straight round his form to his back. The second burst had the pleasant side effect of driving her fist, still wrapped in black, exhausting flames, towards the small of his back, aiming to both land a punch- a love tap, in the face of his natural durability and enhanced endurance- but also to splash another blow from the dark flames before, predicting the high-speed fighter's ability to whip around faster than she could react, she attempted to pre-empt the turn towards the direction of the blow by blasting herself in another half-circle in the same direction she'd started, hoping that in his rush to face her, he'd give her his back all over again and open himself up for a second, rapid-fire punch and blaze of Antipyre. The strikes weren't the point- she didn't expect them to hurt him, but they were far more energy-efficient ways to land exhausting blows than simply flashing bolts of energy at him at close range, and- hopefully- if she could land enough of the quick strikes, she could burn through his energy stores before he could break her over his knee!

He couldn’t place it, his fist connected to her in just a single blow as she managed to block and even evade his attempts to shatter her defenses with raw force. He wouldn’t shake, he wouldn’t shiver, he kept on her in an attempt to overwhelm her and force her to play defense. Whilst he attacked, while his punched hit her guard he smiled, every deflection, every successful block it would remind him why he was glad he came to U.A: To meet people like this and watch them treat his attacks like child’s play.
While the first punch was blocked by her guard, she wasn’t as resistant to the force as he suspected. Her quirk was still flared around her arms, the black mass providing some sort of defense he assumed as he tried to follow up his wailing with his hail maker. The hook came quick, but she avoided it with a fair show of speed of her own. His fist followed through and for a moment too long he hesitated to drawback his fist.
Arisu would find her quirk was working, his body was already slowing down and it wasn’t quite to his attention just yet. In a swift maneuver the girl was behind him. There were two hits into the small of his back, though given his current state of mind he wouldn’t quite notice them as the black flames did their magic. His body was beginning to grow heavy and tired.
Clenching his teeth he would play into her hands, but instead of just turning to face her he led with a leg in a sweeping kick of his left leg and spin on the toes of his toes counter clockwise. If this would catch her attempt to disorient him he would follow up with the raised heel of his left leg before crashing it down on his opponent. Of course, this was only if he had managed to guess her direction and the kick connected. Had it not she freely hit him with another two strikes just in time. As ferocious as he was, he had a time limit and it would begin to show as, following the stomp of his right foot (if she dodged the follow up in time) he had planted himself and began to dither a bit. Shaking his head as he struggled to keep his focus. Left foot planted he’d throw another punch at her lunging forward for this one in a wild blow of both of his hands clenched in an axe handle swinging from the right. It was another duckable blow, though had she done so he’d throw a knee straight into her chin.
Had she gone clockwise though, she would have successfully landed both of her blows, and in reaction he would whip around and throw himself at her in a head-first charge with both of his arms expanded in fist as he attempted to shatter her defenses not just with his force but his boosted muscular frame to crack her defenses. Had she dodged he would have thrown himself onto the floor, but given their size different at the very least he would have hooked her with one of his arms taking her to the ground with him.

--- arisu --- - - - Oh, how his impression would change if he could peek into the mind of his opponent. Ken saw Arisu fighting and saw a clever opponent leveraging her positioning and skill to deflect the worst of his blows, pushing his body to its limit faster than he previously thought it would reach, dancing around him and peppering him with harmless blows that nonetheless seemed to somehow be winning this battle of attrition. Inside Arisu's head, however... Internally, Arisu was just this side of panic. She was well aware that the margin between success and failure here was horribly slim- at least, to her perceptions. Ken knew his breath couldn't last forever, but Arisu didn't even know he had to hold his breath to manage his power. What she knew was that his blows were significantly more powerful than her own punches, that she didn't have the strength or endurance to turn them completely aside, and that he was too fast to outrun or effectively react to. In her mind, her only chance at victory lay in completely outmaneuvering him, in thinking three steps ahead, to not just his reaction to her move, but to how she could move to capitalize on that reaction while already processing the next reaction-counterplay in her head. Seeing his leg whip up nearly stopped her heart until she realized that she HAD successfully guessed his next move- she'd simply not accounted for how aggressive he was, which was- in retrospect- a painfully amateur mistake. Had she been maneuvering around him through strictly human means, she strongly suspected the violent whipkick that cut through the air where she'd been standing instants before would have caught her, but by applying literal rocket science, she'd managed to leave him nothing but fading black wisps to kick as she rocketed behind him once more and peppered another pair of featherlight, thunder-quick punches.
She knew he had to be getting angry. She'd noticed him slowing down, which was tremendously relieving- her blows were working through his energy levels and starting to cut into his ability to keep at full blast- but she expected he'd be like a cornered bear, replacing speed with power as he got furious and tried to end the fight before he ran dry, and that meant that his aggression from the last strike would only amp up. She respected his combat sense enough to presume that she wouldn't so easily be able to whip around him- he could switch directions, or predict she'd know that and REFUSE to switch, and either choice made circling further a completely untenable option. Instead, she opted to use what she knew and lay a trap for him.
He was almost certain to try to catch her on the spin again- she had to go somewhere else. Down was too close to his grasp- if he pinned her, it was over. So she had to go up. If she went up, she'd need to land again, and last time, he'd rushed her in a heartbeat- he'd have to, to get close enough to fight again, and she hadn't punished that rush last time- this time she would... if she had him pegged properly, anyway!
Even as the second punch landed, Arisu was throwing her hands towards the ground and flashing a burst of Antipyre to hurl herself upwards and forwards, just a few feet above his head. The moment she crested overtop him, both hands unleashed again, keeping her aloft for a moment and cascading black fire over his position, unless he'd relocated. Then, as her momentum carried her forward and gravity started to take effect, she pulsed quick bursts from each arm to rotate her 180 degrees mid-air, and let loose a sustained blast of frigid black fire towards wherever she saw him standing, expecting him to rush towards her position again, in an attempt to punish the advance before snapping her arms together in front of her face in another boxer's guard. She couldn't take more than maybe a single hit more- but she'd capitalized on his presumed advance and she wouldn't have time to do aught but protect herself before she had a chance to re-analyze his current behavior.

Ken’s smile never faded, despite having missed her and not getting to land as many blows as he would have liked he had been given a proper challenge in this spar, his raw offense met with calculating defense and at least for now calculation took sheer might. Her punches, as light as they were, had gone unnoticed, still planting their seeds of exhaust but to the red warrior were nothing more than a breeze.
His energy was depleting now, his body was getting heavy and eyes lids were only half-lidded. As badly as he wanted to he couldn’t rile up his body to get into second gear as his wheels slowly began to grind to a halt as his quirk began to reach its limit.
In a beast like charge he made his attempt to pin her down and end the session right then and there but Arisu, being as crafty as he assumed out thought him and propelled himself over his head. Not to his right, not to his left, not even backward but over the large male. He went barreling forward, unaware of her show of agility and coordination with her quirk and before he knew it a frigid blast of cold hit his back dead in the center. The feeling had returned and with the black flames that washed over him, his red aura had dispersed as he finally took a breath leaving him powered down.
Having held his breath for so long he took a few breaths as he staggered on to a knee, he had already been sweating, his body was heavy and he felt more tired than he usually did when he had his quirk up.
With a loud yawn, he brought a fist up to his mouth and let it loose as he shook his head. He was getting sleepy.
“Heh, you’re pretty good Arisu. I just wish we could play with my quirk longer.” he chuckled as he stood on teetering legs, “But I guess we can play without it!” with those words he’d whip back again and charge at her. The difference between now and the last time he used this strategy he was significantly slower and the punches wasn’t as strong, but that didn’t mean they didn’t hurt. That said, the effects of her quirk had him drained, every left-right jab was slow and forced.
With a lowered right he’d try to uppercut the girl’s guard, it was a slow-paced punch but one of the best he could muster before finally losing falling under her spell. Had it connected he would remain with his fist in the air for quite some time before falling onto his rear, had she dodged he would have fell back.

--- arisu --- - - - There was, Arisu would later realize, one critical downside to the way her Quirk worked: unlike a conventional offensive Quirk which left wounds and visible injuries to easily gauge its effectiveness on your opponent, hers attacked something wholly ethereal, and the only way to track that sort of effect was through their reactions to it. That was all fine and dandy against opponents that weren't guarded enough to protect that information- but against wily foes unwilling to give an inch, information blackout became a dangerous condition.
Unfortunately, that also applied for bull-headed, adrenaline-fueled fight junkies without the awareness to react to the draining effects in the first place.
Arisu found herself completely unsure if she was actually making any progress. Every blow she struck seemed to go almost completely unnoticed as anything but a blatant reminder of her exact location to the faster fighter. Her anxiety started to roil and smother her tactical thinking- if he just had so much energy that what she was taking didn't bother him, she didn't stand any chance at all of coming out on top. If all that energy pouring off him was pure EXCESS, what hope did she have of cutting to his core and forcing him to surrender or pass out? He hardly looked like he was even having to pay attention at this point. Was he BORED?
All these thoughts poured through her mind as she rode the tiring torrent over Ken and back towards the ground, another burst already forming around her hands, but- his energy broke off. He yawned. Shook his head.
Wobbled.
Before that little teeter, her heart had been in freefall. She wasn't doing anything to him. He wasn't even affected, this was BORING to him. It wasn't before she saw how unsteady he was that she realized that he wasn't bored, he was running on fumes. And still! Still he came back at her, slower, more deliberate.
This time, she stuck to her original plan. She turtled behind her arms, wrapped in the coiling flames of Antipyre, and shifted her guard as necessary to take the blows on her already bruised limbs, biting harder and harder at her lower lip with every new layer of spiking pain that shot through her nerves. The bruising helped to hide the blackened veins creeping up her arms, marking part of her limit with her quirk, perhaps, but right when she thought she couldn't handle another blow on the anvil of her arms, Ken brought in an uppercut she wasn't expecting. It blew past her guard and slammed her head back, driving her teeth into the cushion of her lower lip with a bright spurt of pain and a slow drip of red. He hadn't done anything like that their entire fight. If he'd brought that blow to bear while his Quirk was still sustaining him, she thought through the haze of the head blow, he'd have ended the fight in an instant.
She caught herself, barely, blood dripping down onto her chin as she tried to bring her guard back up, tried to refocus her eyes. Her arms hurt so badly she couldn't fully close her hands anymore, and he was still on his feet, hand up in the air triumphantly, falling back to... to..?
To collapse. He was down. Her arms dropped immediately, a sigh of desperate relief crossing her bloodied lips as she raised a hand to smear the red off her mouth, looking at the streak on the edge of her palm before stepping towards Ken and dropping to sit down in front of him. If he was conscious, they'd share a few moments of quiet until he had something to say. If he was knocked out? She'd be sitting there when he woke up, tounging the row of gouges in her lip, calm for all that her arms were a bruised, swelling mess. TAGS: WORD COUNT: 659 TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ BOTE & THQ

The uppercut connected, his fist felt her chin, soft skin assaulted by rough knuckles and he knocked her back with a good one. His arm was still raised, Ken’s appearance reminiscent of the statue of liberty. One arm up the other at his side. As strong as he may have hit her with his methodical offense, in the end, she was come out victorious as all of her jabs and blast had finally taken him out.
Beneath his hair, his eyes were closed and like the last domino in a collapsed line he fell back onto his seat and down for the long count as he rested on the ground.
As Arisu drew closer she wouldn’t find him silent and bitter, but instead sleeping like a child taking a nap after a day of play: His arms were outstretched on his sides, his legs were spread and his mouth was wide open as he openly snored aloud. Still, if she examined his features she’d notice from when they were sparring to now he was still smiling. Eventually, he would wake up after just around fifteen minutes of rest he’d spring up with his arms up with a good stretch. In follow up to it he broke out into a fit of laughter as he remembered just how he fell asleep, Arisu must have thought he looked silly “Whoa, I wasn’t even tired.” he’d peek an eye open and spotted the dark-haired female. To his surprise, she stuck around, and here he had expected her to take off once she won.
“Arisu! You’re still here!” he shook the sleep out of his head as he cracked a wide grin across his lips, “Well lemme say sorry I fell asleep there, but hey you are amazing! The way you guarded those punched, kept a straight guard and dodged some of my best attacks. I wasn’t sure if I could ever get a hold of you.” he’d reach out and place a hand on her shoulder, “Like seriously, and those fires you were shooting all pew pew pew.” he tried to mimic how she was shooting the flames with his other hand, “You were lighting me up! How did you know I can only hold my breath for a few minutes? That very last blast was just what made me need to take another breath.”
his tone was one of legitimate happiness and intrigue, he hadn't had so much fun in his life! Even if it was just a short spar this girl had pushed him to his absolute end, something that not even the silver-haired samurai got to do before he stole his bike.

--- arisu --- - - -
Arisu spent the time Ken was snoring running through the fight in her head, analyzing it from both angles. Had she made smart calls at every turn? Could she have done anything better? Probably. This was something of a wake-up call relative to her own vulnerabilities, honestly. It didn't seem she could really rely on hiding behind her fists against opponents eager to go into melee combat. Anyone trying to do that was likely stronger than she was tough, at least right now. Next time, she really needed to be prepared to move and keep out of the way of the attacks in the first place. She'd adapted well after that point, she thought, but that- and letting herself get surprised by the uppercut- were flagrant marks to be improved in her eyes.
On the other hand, what about Ken? How could she have done things differently if she'd been in his shoes against an opponent like her? With strength like his? She thought a wrestling approach might well have served him better. His speed would have made it easy to close and start a clinch, and his strength would have made it difficult to break out, if he'd gotten a grasp. Plus, as tough as he seemed to be, he'd be risking little in close quarters.
When he finally woke up, Arisu greeted him with a smile. Her lip had scabbed over lightly, and she'd fetched a wet paper towel clean her face and hands in the meantime. "Yeah, sorry- that's what my Quirk does. It looks like fire, but it burns your energy, not your body. Which is nice, because I can always go all out and never worry about hurting anyone, you know? But the downside is- well," she laughed, holding up her arms. They were layered in dark bruises from his punches, but she didn't seem overly concerned. "I walk away worse the wear even when I win. But that's on me! If I didn't want to get hurt, I shoulda stayed out of the way, you know? But- what I mean to say is that you don't have anything to apologize for, the nap or otherwise!"
"You- think I'm amazing?" Arisu blinked rapidly. That was a surprising sentiment. "Aw, thanks- that won't last long, though. Wait until you meet some of our classmates. I've seen them do incredible things. But! I'm confident that if I- if we!- keep on our training, we'll be the ones our kouhai look up to next year!" She flushed at the compliments and laughed nervously, inwardly delighting in the praise. "Well- I couldn't... DODGE them, for the most part. You were so fast! Trust me, I wasn't reacting- I couldn't, I realized that after the first couple punches. I had to guess what you were going to do. If I wasn't already getting out of the way before you attacked, I wasn't gonna BE out of the way. That's why I went up after I managed to spin around you twice. I figured you'd catch on, and I couldn't afford to get caught. Which- reminds me. I saw you in a wrestling stance when we started. Why didn't you try to grab me? I can't very well zoom away from a ball and chain made of meat and fists."
"Hold your breath? Is that what you were doing?" Arisu blinked rapidly. "I had no idea, honestly. I was just trying to exhaust you before you broke my arms!" The girl laughed openly, clearly holding no hard feelings about any of it.

Ken scratched his chin as the girl spoke, the entire time he thought she was burning him but instead she was draining him of his energy, burning it away and killing him wearing him down instead of taking an all-out offense.
As his thoughts rolled for a moment he’d cup his chin with the index finger and thumb of his right hand, “Really now?” he muttered under his breath as he examined the bruises on her arms. It seemed she had taken a bit of damage from his punches, but given that he had his quirk active for her to only end up with bruises was an interesting feat to him. More so because of just how hard he was trying to go at her.
He would be silent as she continued to speak his face reading with inquisitiveness as he mulled over a few things; she had a perfect counter to his brawling style and all she had to do was out last him. As intrigued as he looked he cracked a smile when she spoke about the under class-men looking up to them. She showed a fire that was similar to his own, though the flush of her face gave away that the compliments were well received under the fiery expression she gave him.
Then a question was aroused, one that made him think for a moment. “Huh... why didn’t I wrestle you?” he rhetorically asked, arms and legs crossing as he continued to think about it for a moment, “Oh right, well I wanted to see you go all out and if I grabbed you we would have spent more time grappling than actually throwing punches. I wanted to gauge ya and I’m glad I did because you are really fun to brawl with.”
He coughed into a closed fist and crossed his arms again. “That said, have you considered ever blasting your quirk in people’s faces before you take body shots?”
It was a thought he had when they were fighting before he went on his rampage, “Like, if you drain energy you could probably get that fire of yours into openings like eyes, the nose, and mouth. Heck if you get your hand on someones face you could probably cloud and destroy their senses with your blaze.” It was mostly an assumption and a small suggestion, “Not that I mean to push you or anything but it seems like something you could do to really make your opponent have to out think you when they try to out muscle you. Berserker can’t punch ya if they can’t see or smell, or heck if you get it in their mouth, talking. Ooh! You could even fill someone’s gut with your flames! Your quirk is so awesome and then you were like propelling and stuff that was cool too!”
Ken gasped, “I have an idea!” he got on all fours and crawled up to the girl enthusiastically, had she not backed away their faces would be just a foot from one another, “We should spend more time together!” he put on a childlike grin, “We counter each other so well and ooo! We could even try to learn to complement one another with our quirks! Sort of like mixing them together without uh.. You know... I wonder how people can mix quirks... Eh questions for later.”
He cleared his throat, “Will you please be my partner? please please please please please please!” he brought his fist up to either side of his chin and hopefully asked, “It’ll be super fun! and we can eat lots together! Oh! And train alot too! We could even study! Cause I don't know what that is but it sounds important.”

"Ah! Okay! That makes sense. I think I could have punished you grabbing me, but at the end of the day, I THINK we'd probably have put each other out of commission at about the same time if you'd insisted on keeping a hold of me. Which would have been way worse for me than you!" Arisu flashed a grin, no hard feelings there.
"Hm? In their faces?" Arisu pondered the idea. "I dunno. I'd never considered trying to use my quirk to obscure visibility. I haven't really had many chances to branch out my skills, to be honest- the maneuvering you saw is really new, the only real trick I've managed to develop enough to rely on in a fight. I have other ideas- antipyre armor, more rapid relocation, maybe even try to develop a lingering version of the stuff..." She trailed off as he laid out his ideas for the ways that could pay off, though it all left her squinting and shaking her head hard. "Awgh. No, your ideas are really good, but I don't think I could intentionally dump this stuff INTO somebody. I know it's not supposed to hurt, but on the other hand, I've seen it crumble stone to dust. If it works differently on your insides or eyes or bones than it does on skin... nyugh. I can't. I- I ca-!!!!!"
Abruptly, there was a Ken on all fours in her face, leaving Arisu's eyes wide and concerned. "Uh- like- like a permanent sparring partner?" She considered the offer. He did offer a very similar analogue to the sort of quirk Risaka boasted, and as far as she could see, that sort of drastic power over short times was the biggest threat to her endurance-based combat style.
"Um- I mean- okay? I like the idea of training regularly. As for eating, I have to watch my diet really closely, or I get tubby like nobody's business, but training and studying? We can do that." He was joking about not knowing what studying was... right?

He waited for her answer with bated breath, given the fact they had just met he could have understood if she declined his invitation and while the rejection would have hurt, it was totally understandable.
The thundering of his heart filled his ears as he tensely waited for her answer, a small bead of sweat raced down his jaw line. The suspense was killing him, the pensive look in her eyes, the weighing of her options and mentioning that she would have gotten chubby had she not watched her diet. It would have made him chuckle, but he didn’t mind if she put on weight she was still her regardless of what she looked like to him. Then again, most people were weight obsessed if TV was any indicator.
“Ah!” he shook his head of his digressing thoughts as he heard her say the golden words ‘we can do that’ right then he shot up from his seat and clenched his fist in front of him, somewhat looming over the girl as he looked down at her, “Thank you! Thank you thank you Su!” the smile on his face couldn’t have been any wider if he tried. He finally had a sparring partner and someone who countered his quirk no less, there was no telling how strong they could get together.
“Really? For reals? With me?!” he hopped up and down, “Then let’s not waste any time!” the words were thunderous and with them his shirt would be taken off as he hopped back a few meters from Arisu.
“Let’s celebrate with another match! This time even more intense and don’t be afraid to fire that stuff of yours into my face I can take it!”
Had she agreed he would get into a runner’s stance, leaning over with the index and middle fingers of his hands touching the ground, his right knee bent forward and left outstretched behind him. He was going to give her his all this time around! 1,000,000% over what he had given her before. All he needed was her mark.

--- arisu --- - - - "Aheheh, slow down, slugger." Arisu held both her arms up as Ken went wild with excitement and tried to get pumped up for another bout. He might be feeling better, but while fifteen minutes nap was probably enough to restore a good chunk of his stamina, her arms were another story. While it would probably take all of a minute under Hye-Rin's excellent care to render her fit to fight again, the fact was that her flowery friend wasn't around right now and that wasn't gonna be happening in time for Ken's battle high to get fed. "Maybe another time, when I can't still count each finger from your fists on my arms?""I have an idea. What about some training exercise? Some mental ones. Lemme describe some scenarios, and you tell me your first instinct to counter it- and then we'll talk about why that might not work. We're gonna see if we can get you thinking a couple steps ahead." Presuming that Ken was game for the little back and forth, Arisu started replaying their last fight and exploring better ways for her to respond to each of the techniques she'd used to survive his assault and turn the tables, filling out the rest of their time together that night with productive training- even if it wasn't the sort of battle that fed Ken's bottomless hunger for blood.
