--- arisu --- - - -
Rin and Darren were both proving to be good role models for Arisu. While she was aware that she had relatively little to share with other new students, she'd made a point of reaching out to each one she'd noticed and feeling out their interests and areas of opportunity, and in Shiko, she'd found one she could actually address. Despite having a quirk that lent itself to some extreme potential in hand to hand combat, Shiko... didn't seem to have had much, or maybe any, experience fighting at all. So, it'd been an easy leap from that realization to offering to share what little she knew about fighting with the other new student.
At the appointed time- and after finding a second pair of sparring gloves- Arisu waited in the martial arts club room for Shiko's arrival. She had one of her little fold-over spiral notebooks in her hand, and she was furiously scribbling thoughts on what she could share with Shiko while she waited. Form, exercises, basic punches, guard, bobbing, weaving, how to step, how to advance, how to retreat, all listed on her page in shorthand as she broke down the things she knew well enough to share. It would all amount to a very basic understanding of hand to hand combat, and surely wasn't going to rival the teachings of Darren or other talented fighters, but it would be more than Shiko already had and she was happy to spread the wealth around.
As it happened, Arisu had made sure to arrive copiously early, and found herself waiting up quite a while, though she didn't in the slightest hold it against Shiko. She took the opportunity to start practicing her own forms, to stretch and warm up, and- once those all exhausted using up the time between now and Shiko arrival, began to test her ability to control what direction her quirk could be released, aiming it backwards from her wrist in an attempt to develop a sort of rocket punch effect. It worked, to a point, but she needed a lot more practice and a lot more control before it'd be usable- so she started on the practice now. Again and again she launched her fist forward with a bracelet-like burst of black fire, pulsing out in a ring like a plane spearing through the sound barrier. The timing was tricky, the power needed was precise to provide power without straining the limb- there were a lot of notes to take and by the time Shiko arrived, the girl had completely lost herself in her experimentation. Unless she was very loud entering, it was quite probable Shiko might startle her tutor when she made herself known.

Shiko's entire body was still sore from the last time she had agreed to get into a scuffle on the training field. That was the first time that she had ever tried to fight anyone. What was getting into her? Why exactly had she agreed to do this again? The girl flexed her fingers and then moved them about at odd angles that would not have been possible if she actually had bones before pushing open the door.
The place was bigger than she thought it would have been. That seemed to be the case with a lot of facilities around here: all of them were much larger than even the nominally 'richer' high school that she had transferred out of. A good reminder of the stress that Yuuei placed on physical fitness and martial aptitude for the young aspiring heroes.
The door closed behind her, catching on the pneumatic closer to prevent it from slamming. FWOOM! the blue and black flames seemed to tear at the air as they propelled Arisu's fists. From here Shiko could feel the drafting wind from the blows, but they were not as hot as she expected them to be. She didn't say anything for a while, merely observing Arisu's motions.
Shiko's outfit wasn't much different than last time, probably not well suited for sparring of any sort. Not that she would care, she lived her entire life wearing baggy clothes. She could go another day in them.
"Ari-san!" Shiko wondered for a moment if the girl would be okay with the nickname she had just given her, well, there was no point in dreading on it anymore. She slipped the backpack off her shoulders, holding a change of clothes for whenever they finished here, and waved to the girl that agreed to be her teacher. She put a smile on her face as she approached. Getting closer, she would put her fingertips together like a steeple right below her mouth and stop with a bounce. "Sooooooo, uh, where do you want to start? I have no idea what I'm doing." She closed her eyes and kept that smile on her face, perhaps trying to stave off a little bit of embarrassment.

--- arisu --- - - - Arisu jerked when addressed directly, torn out of her nearly meditative practice by the abrupt intrusion of reality! She very nearly bounced off her heels, but settled as she turned and recognized Shiko, huffing a sigh of relief and offering a smile to the other girl as she waved her closer. "Shiko-san! Hello! Welcome to the martial arts club. I know you're not, like- settled on joining, but I'm really glad you're open to at least practicing together. I'm not as experienced as Daimon-senpai, but I'll do my best to make sure you get a proper foundation to start on your own fighting style, whatever that's gonna be.""First things first, safety. Put on these gloves. They'll soften the impact and diffuse the force of your punches- and probably protect me from papercuts too, if I understand?" She offered the words as a half-question, clearly trying to ascertain what she thought might be accurate rather than just assume she knew everything from a few rumors. "We're not gonna be using our quirks today, this is really just to help you get through the rough transition into getting used to fighting and getting bumped around without having to do so under scrutiny or in competition." While she spoke, she stepped in close to Shiko and started helping her put the gloves on. Stepping back, Arisu waited until Shiko seemed comfortable enough with the gloves to move to the next step. "So now, bring your gloves up. Next to your face. Their job is to guard your head. Not to punch, not to intercept blows, to -guard your head.- That's the only job they have right now, and we're gonna start by drilling this until it's second nature. Everything else builds on this. Even if you take up a different style, you'll probably benefit from remembering to protect your head. So forgive me for being a little focused on this."Arisu brought her own hands up in example, then stepped in nearer, closing their distance again. "I'm gonna start punching. All I want you to do is bring your hands back up to guard your head every time I swing. If you're not fast enough, I can and will punch you in the head. It's not gonna hurt, but it'll be disorienting and embarrassing every time I do it. I promise, you can get your guard up fast enough if you try and focus. Okay? Ready?"She didn't really wait to find out. Shiko had a three-way combo, right-left-right, all jabs thrown directly at her gloves. All she'd need to do was get her guard back up every time Arisu knocked her gloves down and away, and she'd be fine- but that depended on her reaction time and natural aptitude!

Arisu seemed to sigh where she stood. Had the girl not trusted her to show up? Shiko shoved the thought from her mind. It was stupid and a bit paranoid to jump to that conclusion. The girl beckoned Shiko closer, and she complied, approaching the area with an air of nervousness about her. She looked around a few more times for some reason she didn't know, probably just curiosity.
While Arisu might not have been looking for a response from the girl, Shiko would interject: "I don't know. My body's so different I can't tell if any 'style' would fit for me." Regardless, the duo would have to continue on. The boxer handed her a pair of gloves. With how iconic they were, Shiko didn't need to be told to put them on, having a good idea with where this was going.
She slipped the right glove over her hand fairly easily, the velcro straps not needing much intuition to figure out. "Uhhh.. heh heh. No, that's not how my quirk works at all. I just decided Papercut would be my hero name. Though, I guess I could if I really wanted to." Shiko considered doing a little presentation, but decided against it. She flexed her fingers the best that she could inside of restrictive glove. She wasn't sure if she liked how it forced her hand into a fist. She found it pretty easy to fill out the glove by unfolding her hand and fingers a little bit. Yeah, she really didn't like how restraining they were.
Shiko managed to get the other one over her hand, but quickly found herself unable to manipulate the straps with the giant mitt that covered her other hand. She pawed at them a few times before making a quick glace to Arisu before pawing a few more times like an embarrassed puppy trying to hide an accident. "A-Ari-san, could you help me, please?" The girl's voice wavered a little bit. She didn't want to admit it but she was clueless to what she was doing.
When they were finally finished, Shiko would do that thing where boxers in the movies and on TV would bring their gloves together. That's what they were supposed to do, right? It didn't really help her get 'hyped up' like she thought it would, but they did pleasantly slide further up her arm and made them just a little bit more comfortable. Shiko nodded attentively at Arisu's other instructions.
"Like this?" The girl put her hands up to her face like she thought she was supposed to. Shiko tried to match Ari's own stance, but perhaps put her gloves a little too close together. No, that was bad, She could hardly see Ari-san now. Shiko adjusted her the spacing of her arms bit by bit until she felt like she was holding her arms up correctly, probably with a little help from Arisu along the way.
Shiko held her arms there stiff, to the point that they quivered just a little bit, but she thought that was fine. Arisu's first jab came in! It might as well have been fast as lightning for Shiko! Her arm was knocked away like it was nothing despite how stiff she held it! Before she could even have time to reset her arm back to a proper guard the other jab came in, knocking the other hand away, too! How was this happening! It looked so much easier on TV! And to top it all off, Arisu jabbed at her with her right once again, overwhelming Shiko's meager defense! Like many people who had never trained to take a hit before, Shiko didn't know to throw her head back to absorb most of the jab, and the girl would take the full force of the punch.
Perhaps some kind of slap sound would have been expected, but what came out was more of a pomf followed by an "oof!" as Arisu's fist seemed to fold Shiko's face in a little bit. If the girl bothered to look, she would find that her glove would be a bit smeared with a pale-cream color.
"Sowwy abu tha!" Shiko's face looked to pop right back into shape with only a little bit of crinkling, the punch clearly marked by a noticeable lack of the color over the rest of her face, leaving behind only pale-white. That hadn't hurt at all! She felt like she could keep doing this all day! A confident smile spread from her lips. "That won't happen again, I promise!"

--- arisu --- - And Then There Was One -
Arisu welcomed Shiko as she approached with a bright smile, listening as she spoke about how her mutation made life very different for her. "Well, no -set- style perhaps, though I do have a goofy idea to search for inspiration. It's kind of old, but pretty interesting, and has some fascinating parallels to your quirk. I can't promise it'll be worth our time, but it -should- at least be worth a laugh. We'll take a peek at that later, okay?" She beamed again, wielding her cultivated air of excitement to hide her own nerves at the idea of attempting to teach someone else the basics she built her own combat style on.
Arisu blanched a touch when corrected on the girl's quirk, but relaxed as she learned more about Shiko's abilties in piecemeal revelation. "Ah! Okay. Well, I'm sorry- I kind of assumed, but I'll do my best not to do that going forward. And even if you could like- do a literal knifehand to cut someone or something, I totally understand that might not really feel like something that suits you. I know that I was terrified for ages that I'd crumble people away into dust the same way I can break down stones and wood. It was so relieving to know I didn't have to worry about hurting people that way once I picked up on what my quirk -actually- did."
She got so caught up in her own thoughts that Shiko's request for help surprised her a touch, but she smiled again and stepped in, quickly realizing that it was extremely strange to attempt to do this from the front. Moving behind Shiko for her own comfort, she realigned, then strapped Shiko into her gloves, reaching around the girl with comfortable ease, unconcerned about proximity now that she knew Shiko wouldn't accidentally slice her up. Then Shiko had a moment to get herself ready, and asked if she was doing it right. She got a brisk nod, and then-
FWAP.
The first blow hit. Arisu noted Shiko's slow recovery, and- on making contact- the total lack of recoil to absorb the blow. She paused, both at the smear of concealer- or was it foundation?- and the pale splotch on Shiko's face. Her gloves dropped a moment, pressing together a little tightly. "... Shiko-san, do you put on makeup for yourself or others? You do a good job, don't get me wrong, I had no idea, but-" She paused, hunting for words. "If you're trying to hide that you look a little different, I think this is like... the one place you shouldn't need to worry about that, you know? I don't wanna get on your case if you just like wearing it, but I don't want you feeling like normal you isn't okay to... be. You know?"
A second thought arose, and she added to the end of her little speech, "... that didn't look like it hurt at all. Do you not need to worry about blunt impacts? Or was I just being gentle enough not to hurt you?"

Shiko shook her head as both of the girls recovered, mostly to pull her out of whatever funk she convinced herself she must have been in. She tried moving side to side a little bit like she had seen the pros and movie stars do on TV, but, she would slow herself quickly. Whereas Shiko felt perfectly fine, there was a growing look of concern on Arisu's face and a notable lack of going back to her punches.
Shiko slowed herself and lowered her guard, this time on purpose. "Huh?" She had hardly noticed the hit at all. She put on a more-than-healthy amount of the stuff to the point that she wouldn't really have to worry about smearing like that. It was all a part of her routine. It was how she made herself look normal. She tried to touch the spot with her own fingers, but the girl just found herself hopelessly pawing at the starch-white splotch for a few moments before she just kept her glove there out of embarrassment.
She had completely forgotten about her quest to better herself now, all of those moments from the past coming back to mind. Geisha. Freak. Little Doll. How long had it been since she had been called those names? Shiko turned to the side, making sure to keep the spot facing away from Arisu. "It-.. It's nothing. Don't worry about it." Her words eked with shame at first, but the last sentence carried with in a biting, commanding undertone. She immediately felt a twang on her heart-string for being so cold to someone trying to reach out to her so kindly. Perhaps she had not been expecting it. She sighed, trying to release it all of those horrid memories, imagining the storm of brewing emotions being blown away. "S-sorry."
Shiko turned back around and slowly lowered the hand covering her face. "It's for me, yeah." The girl's arms remained in a sort of limbo, unable to decide if the practice session was about to get back to full swing or if this was going to be a more sizable lapse. "My quirk has always been like that. I don't have any bones so my body can just kind of fold in on itself."

--- arisu --- - - -
Arisu wasn't a mind reader, but she knew enough about the look on Shiko's face to guess. To her, it didn't bring the words "geisha" or "doll" to mind, but it did bring "demon", "oni", "devil child" immediately to recollection. Her own face fell, not from insult or offense, but from empathy, from knowing that pain. She stepped closer, calmly, to emphasize she wasn't being driven away.
"Listen, that's fine, then! I want you to do whatever helps you get through the day. If it's easier to wear that to - haha! To blend in," she chuckled, over the use of foundation to literally blend in instead of figuratively blend her complexion. "Then you should do what makes you feel good. I think you look pretty underneath the make-up, too, but I'm not the one whose opinion matters- yours is. You wear all the makeup you want, okay?" Arisu did her best to offer a super supportive smile- she just wanted Shiko to be comfortable in her own skin, whatever that required.
She gestured with her own gloves to help remind Shiko to get back into position to protect herself. "That's super useful. Bones kinda suck. They can break, they mash your flesh up if you get punched over them- you're lucky! Awesome! I don't have to be so scared about hurting you then! You ready for this? We can get your face fixed up when we're done, so you won't have to walk the halls with spotty makeup, okay?"
If Shiko agreed, Arisu would lay back into her. This time, though, she rarely went for the follow-up opportunity strike, simply pounding at Shiko until her guard couldn't get back up in time and simply calling out "Strike!" every time she saw an opening to hit her friend. It didn't make the exercise any easier, but the blows didn't really hurt Shiko anyhow, so this was just as effective for training!
